Sorry about the pun but I have owned a string of Canon Powershots and this is the best and probably as the years have passed the cheapest! It has as may pixels as you could want, produces full screen video in good quality, good optical zoom and unlike my old Canon the video edit feature is back, why this went away I cannot imagine; its even easier to use as the programms are selected for you, unless you really want to fiddle around, and quite intuiative, video is just push the red button to start and end; and you can slip it in your pocket so nothing clunky to carry around, another winner.

This aftermarket lens cap doesn't feel like the name brand. it's a "stiffer" fit, a bit harder to snap onto the camera. The only advantage over the name brand is that it has a strap.

He liked the red colour, and is now enjoying experimenting with the camera. I was extremely pleased with the supplier as the camera arrived very quickly, and was very well packed.

I dropped my earlier version of this camera *SOB* and when I realized it was DOA, I quickly bought this updated version.Haven't had a chance to REALLY give it a workout but overall, I am very happy and I would recommend this camera to anyone.

I found this camera extremely amazing! The amount of mega pixels really give the photo a crisp feel. Also the screen is very large which makes it more easier to see what you've just shot. I have never been so happy with a camera than this one. One thing I do have an issue with is how fast it uses up batteries but that is why i just ordered rechargeable ones. Great camera and I 100% recommend this

The only bad thing about this product is the battery compartment door's poor design and constrcution. Otherwise I like the rest of the functions/capabilities, like the image-stabilization.

I hope Canon has fixed this issue on subseqeunt/newer models/versions.

Really happy with product after contacting Canon and getting a bit of coaching. The software provided on disk is a bit of a pain for easy upload like the older Powershot, but more than makes up for it with in expanded functions. I have Adobe Creative Suite, so thought it would just be duplicating functions but really helpful. Really great shots in low light.

I chose the Canon A590is for its reasonable price, optical viewfinder and initially-favourable reviews. It is comfortable and easy to use, and takes fantastic-quality photographs, which are better than my Canon Eos 400D SLR - with much more detailed shadows, beautifully balanced exposure across the tonal range, and very realistic colour reproduction. I also like the choice between simple point-and-shoot photography, or more-creative manual settings.

Unfortunately, like so many other owners, I am disappointed by the amazingly-short battery life. After trying different types of battery, the only slight improvement has been with low-self-discharge (LSD) NiMH batteries, such as Sanyo Eneloops or Vapextech Instants. The red battery warning symbol still sometimes appears almost immediately, but can often be made to go away by sliding the battery hatch open and closed a few times, reinforcing other owners' claims of a problem with the contacts.

As a result, I'm still not confident about taking the camera out for the day, without the worry of it dying on me unexpectedly.

After reading many comments online, my conclusion is that the A590is is a relatively power-hungry camera, that's made worse by an overly-fussy battery sensor and poorly-designed battery contacts.

It's a real shame that a camera capable of taking such beautifully-clear, well-exposed and natural-looking photographs renders itself unusable because of its high, or perceived high, battery consumption.

A very compact and durable camera.

The battery is excellent and holds it charge well.

The time lapse video option is excellent. First thing I did when I bought this camera was to record the sun rise. You have the 1 second and 2 second filming option.

A good buy.

Had my new camera today,I had Nikon coolpix P50 for about 4 years. Was good camera wanted upgrade HD video.My new Cannon SX150IS brill.Very pleased with video+photo,And macro and 12x zoom with great image stabliser and good in low light.as well is good for gigs i go to .Just 2 things i found needs good 2000 mah or above AA rechargeable batteries and when use flash 2second charge delay which is nothing big to moan about.But brill camera better than i have tried and reviewed online.Including panasonic lumix s5,sony w690 and nikon coolpix 3300.Best camera at this price is canon sx150is. i have been reviewing and testing out compact cameras for a week and i have decided on this one.

The camera takes good pictures but is very slow to save images and get ready for the next shot. If you can get a good deal and don't mind delays, the photos it takes are good. It's also comfortable to hold with one hand and has lasted for several years . Auto mode takes good pictures.

I've had a couple of different pro-sumer cameras over the years and this is the best so far, the camera is quick, the view finder is useful when taking photo's of far off objects or scenic shots, the rear screen is bright and clear. A buddy has the Nikon version but it's a little big for me, I did try the Sony but didn't like the feel or ergonomics. This is a great camera, you won't be disappointed

I loved this camera. I had it for 3 years before the lens mechanism malfunctioned.

In that time, this camera survived several trips all around Europe, Multiple family camping trips and vacations, and pictures being taken every day. It also survived several 3 foot falls.

Overall, I definitely got my money's worth from the camera. Canon is the brand I will continue to stick with until they are surpassed.

This Canon SX10 IS is perhaps the best kept secret in cameras. I've had mine for over two years. I am a photography enthusiast who entered the digital camera world from the world of wonderful Pentax film cameras--learning everything manually. (I still have my old Pentax). This camera exceeded my expectations. I've taken it on trips to Chicago, San Francisco, and London; trips outdoors and photo shots at work and family events. I've done dawn, sunset, high noon, low light, beach/ocean, under bridges, rain, snow, close-ups of birds and foliage, and wide angles of cityscapes and horizons. The more I learn about this camera, the better I get it to perform. I'm always learning and the camera is beginning to feel like an old friend. For the price and all the features, especially the incredible lens, you can't go wrong with this camera. It has great mode settings, manual, aperture, and shutter priorities work without a flaw. You can learn to improve at low light settings, but this takes practice with any camera. I'm convinced you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a camera in order to take good pictures. Use basic photography principles and learn to use the features of this camera, and you'll be taking great, creative shots in no time. Suggestion: get a tripod if you don't have one already.

My sister had been bugging me and my parents for a camera of her own and since I was going to school for photography they decided to let me find a camera for her since i had picked out one for my mom that she loves and even though my brat of a sister doesn't use this as much as I feel she should (that's just the photographer in me) every time she does she loves the quality and how easy it is to use.

I bought this camera several years ago and it has taken great photos and videos for me (an amateur, not a serious photographer).

However, recently it has been losing the date and time every time I turn it off. When I turn it on, it asks me to set date and time again, but they are only retained until I turn the camera off.

This is not related to battery problems. The battery indicator shows lots of life. I took a two minute video last week, along with other photos, and the battery still had lots of life. I do recharge it when the indicator shows it is low. BTW, the videos are great, we have a new puppy and it is fun to see her tearing around and playing with her older companion.

I like how well pictures turn out on auto. I have not done anything in manual mode, but I plan to once I go through all 260 pages of the manual.It does burn through alkaline batteries quickly and recently bought a Duracell charger and 4 NiMH batteries. I would reccommend this to anyone that wants a digital point and shoot. My only disappointment that the price dropped right after I bought it!

Just came back from 9 week backpacking trip in Asia. I usually use a Canon DSLR, but could not bring my SLR due to size, weight, worrying about its safety all the time, attracting too much attention, etc.

However, if you're an SLR user like me, you miss all the professional functionality, versatility and most of all, zoom range when you settle for most point-and-shoot (PAS) cameras.

The SX110 IS was my dream come true. The 10x optical zoom makes all the difference... in 35mm terms you have a max focal length of 360mm -- like carrying a massive zoom lens on an SLR. Can't count how many beautiful shots would have been impossible if I had been using an 5x zoom or less.

Pros:
- full creative modes (Av, TV, Manual, exposure adjustments) that are actually faster to adjust than my SLR, no fake "Manual" modes that lots of PAS's have, which are anything but Manual
- (it's still got all the scene modes, e.g. Landscape, Action, Portrait, etc. and most of the common ones are on the main dial so you don't have to cycle through them onscreen to get them quickly if you're not comfortable with the creative modes)
- lots of white balance options
- you manually flip-up the flash, only when you want to use it... I hate it when cameras automatically decide for me when to pop-up and use the flash (or you have to cycle through the flash buttons to get control of them) ... I know whether I want flash or not dammit... also you can adjust the flash intensity (great for using light flash on daytime shots in the shade)
- massive and beautiful 3-inch LCD
- form factor... compared to others in its class, i.e. PAS's that have great zoom and full creative modes, this was the smallest -- it actually fits in your pocket (bizarrely I've seen a bunch of reviews that say it's too big for your pocket -- not true at all as long as you're not wearing ridiculously tight pants), unlike those PAS's (including a lot of Canons) that are, to me, in no-man's-land because they're too big for a PAS and too small, not enough lens quality and w/o lens interchangeability to be a SLR
- has a jog dial! (like SLRs have)... so great, and not that many PAS's have it. Let's you very quickly review/search through tons of photos, and quickly change shooting parameters like ISO, aperture, shutter speed, instead of pushing pushing pushing buttons to get what you want
- the awesome Canon user interface -- I have tried all different brands and Canon is the best hands down
- image stabilization seemed to work pretty well

Cons:
Big Cons
- I do not like the AA battery as power source. This camera chews up AA batteries like no other... on one day when I took about 250+ pictures I went through 8 AA batteries. Granted: I probably should have bought a rechargeable AA system before I left, never tried that and also, the batteries for sale in Asia are cheap but they are absolute crap (even Western brands, although they were probably knockoffs). The high-quality $12 lithium AA's I bought in the US before I left lasted much longer, but still not that long.
- the flash has to sit there and get recharged by the batteries before you can shoot again. My guess is it takes about 3-5 seconds, which is an eternity when you're asking people to hold a pose or you've got a fleeting chance at a great photo opp... this actually caused me to miss a few good shots
- video -- you cannot zoom in or out once you start filming! I have no idea why not. Also, the video quality options are that of cameras from a few years ago.. can't shoot in HD, and can't shoot at a super-high rate of frames per second like some tiny Elphs from years ago can
Small cons
- can't shoot in RAW -- won't bother most people since most people just shoot JPGs but I will be moving to RAW soon
- a bit slow to focus, I have definitely seen better in lots of PAS cameras
- face detection was not as good as some other PAS's I've seen -- slow to recognize faces if it even recognized them at all -- although not a huge deal for me as I never rely on face detection to focus
- in the display review, there are four displays to cycle through -- the 4th is a "focus check" which zooms on the center of the photo (or face if detected). It's pointless -- it does nothing more than what you do anyway to check focus when you do a standard review, you zoom in using the zoom buttons and move around the picture to see what you want to check -- except it adds extra cumbersome steps. Canon should get rid of this -- all I want when I cycle through review display modes is the 3rd display -- to check the histogram and see what the camera chose if I'm not in full Manual (i.e. what ISO if I'm using auto-ISO, what shutter speed if I'm using aperture-priority, etc.)
- would be nice to have an exposure bracketing feature, but this is something you almost never see on PAS's anyway

I bought this camera from somewhere else but it was so good, I decided to write this small review. The camera menus are very easy to use, like I said, this camera is excellent for beginners. One thing you must remember to do, is to turn off all "Zoom" that are turned "On" in the Menu. You will get better quality pictures with the "Zoom" off. The camera is not perfect like those pricey cameras, but it is pretty darn good.

Just received my tripod in the mail. It's pretty cool, has all the functions. interestingly enough, It is all black not metallic, and has a different name (Xit) that doesnt matter though. it has great features and for a novice like me it's great for the price it sells for.

our main camera is a canon 5d markll, but we're having a baby and wanted a small digital camera that we could take with us everywhere (so that we stop using our iphone camera). the camera body has a nice weight and it's pretty simple to learn how to use.
