It was a gift for an older couple and the way you zoom & take shoots was a bit unusual, for me it would have been fine. Loved that it was compact... just not the best for someone not technically savy

Awesome camera. As a user of a DSLR, I bought this for my wife, but find myself using it more than her now (oops). With full control and great picture quality, what more do you need?

I only wish it had a manual setting. But overall i really love this camera. Its small and light-weight and takes great pictures.

It works great, especially for being so small. The wifi feature works easily and is quite handy. Im Recommended this one.

I'll keep this review short and to the point:After trying to find the right 'compact' camera to take with me when not lugging around my DSLR and trying several different ones, including the Fuji X100 and Canon's G1X, I finally found what I was looking for: The Canon G15.Sure, the X100 has a better APC-S sized sensor and a brilliant viewfinder but that's where it ends for me. The X100 lacks fun and having no zoom gets old very quickly. The G15's sensor is surprisingly good and combined with the new Digic 5 processor and f/1.8 lens, it matches the X100's low light performance.I'm not even going into talking about Canon's G1X. All I can say is how disappointed I was with that camera. The G15 outperformance the G1X convincingly and I have friends that own the Canon G1X (and the Fuji X100) and are now wanting to swap over to the G15.The Canon G15 is a high performing compact and at around $400, fantastic value for money!If there was one criticism that I would give the G15, is that the viewfinder is useless and it would loose half a star for that, but since that's not possible, I'm happy to give this little gem the full 5 stars rating. I as very pleased with this camera. Compared to my DSLR, it is extremely light weight, doesn't need a bunch of lenses or a carrying kit. Photo quality is the best. Don't bother buying the G16. The gimmicky features on that camera could never be worth an extra $100+.

I've always had a camera with a "grip" and this one didn't. Just wasn't comfortable and easy to use. Returned it and bought Panasonic Lumix FZ200

It's just a great camera. Hi def pictures look fantastic on TV and so does video. Great build quality and feels solid in your hands.

I was a little disappointed that for the price you pay, no memory card was included, even if it were a small capacity one and how much would it cost to include the cable to transfer pictures to computer. I am sure the manufactures pay pennies for those cables.Using the camera, and enjoying the beautiful pictures and clear videos made those little annoyances of memory card and cable fade away.

The directions for making use of the camera are weak...and the ability to use its many features will go unused as a result. 6 - 8 step by step directions on the major features would make this a much more valued camera.

First, I am not a photographer. However, I do own the camera and thought I'd write a short review.. I bought this camera to replace a Nikon Coolpix L11, which died after many years of use. I have a Nikon D40, but I like to have a small camera I can carry with me in my purse or backpack to capture kids, pets, just whatever. I did some research comparing prices, specs, etc. and took a chance on this camera. At first I was a little skeptical, but I find the more I use it the better I like it. (I should really say, the more I LEARN about it, the better I like it!) It is great in the "stand here and let me take your picture" situations. I have also used it some on my kids sporting events. It is not on the level of the D40 for catching the action, but it does fine for a point and shoot. I have been impressed with the quality of the pictures. I've tried out the "super zoom" on pets and nature shots, I think I need a little more work on that! I am interested to see how the battery life is. So far I am happy it uses AA's. I don't know how many times we have been at a theme park or sporting event and I find my batteries are dead. AA's are easy to find, not so easy with a rechargeable battery like the D40 has. The flash is taking some getting used to. You have to press a separate button under the flash to turn it on and wait for it to charge. It's a matter of seconds to charge, but if you have fidgety kids it might as well be 5 minutes, especially if you are trying to take more than one picture. Since I use a small camera a lot in outdoor settings, this is not really a deal-breaker for me. I am still learning about the auto-focus, modes, zoom, etc. As I learn I will be happy to come back and update my review.

this is the very best camera ever...!!! I would recommend it, to any one...!!! it takes the best pictures.....!!! I was really impressed, with this camera....!! if you need a good over all camera get this one....!! and the price is the best to ..!

As a former photojournalist, I selected this Canon because it is a good everyday camera andhas both automatic and manual operation.

I paid 900.00 dollars for my first digital camera, it was a 2 mega pixel camera, and I couldn't capture nearly enough of what I saw in the shot. I didn't want to buy another analog camera since they were slowly disappearing, and I hated waisting all that film trying to get good shots, and having to pay for all the crappy ones. I've had some point and shoot digital cameras, but they were pretty much just point and shoot. I got some acceptable shots but they still weren't capturing what I was seeing. My Canon G15 captures what I see. I am very satisfied with it.A professional photographer friend of mine recommended it, since my wife and I are going to Europe for vacation soon, and he was spot on.I didn't realize how far digital photography technology had advanced over the years. The night pictures I've taken we're surprisingly good. They were crisp and detailed with correctly reproduced night colors, and better than I thought was possible on any kind of camera especially on a camera that was less than 500.00 dollars.I am still playing with all the features. I thought I would have a hard time with the manual mode but it was just like the settings on an analog camera, actually much easier since you see the results right away. Though I'm sure I'll eventually move up to a DSLR, this is plenty camera for me right now.

This review is directed at those considering whether to upgrade. I have owned multiple G7s for years, not having the desire to upgrade because none of the newer G series cameras brought enough to the table, or even less to the table. The G15 brings more to the table in a big way for the following reasons:1. Larger apperature and more sensitive sensor = much much much much much better ability in low light. No flash needed even in very low light.2. High definition video at higher frame rates (The G7 had high def, but some of the models after didn't).3. Can zoom in and out while taking video!!!! (note: at a slower rate than normal zoom, but enough)4. Adjusts exposure while taking video.5. Separate video button so you can quickly start/stop videos and take photos in rapid succession, no stopping to spin the mode dial.6. Much faster zoom.7. Can take photos at significantly shorter intervals.8. Smaller and lighter; not much, but noticeable when you tote in your pocket. Battery is much lighter than G7's so it is a big contributor to this.9. Nicer screen - not enough to warrant an upgrade, but a nice improvement.10. Rougher finish - nice feel and easier to hold one handed.Some cons:1. The separate video button is where I like to put my thumb when one-handing it. Not that big a deal, I expect to get used to this.2. Non articulated screen - I almost never use this, but it would be nice to rotate the screen around when non needed to protect it. Not a big deal, but I would have paid another $60 for it.

I have been using a Canon G7 since 2005. Loved it, took well over a thousand pictures, good zoom, good resolution, good color The camera produced some unbelievably good results. I was very happy to see the release of the G15 with its specs and features. The G15 was a complete disappointment.Almost from the first time I turned it on the lens refused to retract and it gave the "lens error" message. This was the result almost 50% of the times I tried to shut it down. After much frustration I searched on the net and found that Canon has this problem with other cameras, mainly the S100. The net was full of horror stories about Canons refusal to fix or recall the camera. I understand that just recently, after years of net bashing, Canon has agreed to repair all S100s regardless of age.After reading the suggestions on the net I checked my G15 and when the lens is extended the lens barrels are actually loose to the touch. They can be gently moved up or down a slight amount. My old G7 is tight with no movement.My opinion is that it is a lack of quality control somewhere in Canon's manufacturing process. Therefore any replacement could have the same defect or it could develop a year or two later after it is out of warranty. I returned the G15 and am looking for a substitute brand.I would not buy this camera and I would not recommend it to anyone.

this baby takes beautiful photos . delivery was fast and the price was right . it took me some time to get used to seting the picture up with the screen as it does not have a view finder . easy to use , even with all the functions .

I have owned a Canon SX110ls for about four years and I paid approx $240.00 for it. It finally started having trouble witha line being on every picture and it was time for an upgrade. That camera did everything I asked it to do. Thousands ofpictures taken and many videos. The SX160ls has more optical zoom, more mega pixels and HD. It is a bit thinner than the110 and a bit longer. Its fits better in my cannon camera case than the 110 did. Did not have to buy a case. Best of all Iget all this, and it cost approx $100.00 less than the 110 did four years ago. Also, my rechargeable AA batteries and batterycharger all work with the SX160. What a deal. I give it 5 stars.

There are 2 amazing features on this camera. 1: the touch screen allows for easy breezy photo taking, and 2: the creative mode feature. With this one shot creates 6 very different & unique pictures.

I bought this for my wife to replace her first Canon camera from 2003. She loves this camera and uses it far more than her last camera. She is not technically savvy, but uses this camera with ease.

I have had nothing but great success with Canon cameras but this camera eats AA batteries left and right. I wanted an up to date camera and this one was to fit the bill.... BUT trying to take clear pictures of my newborn child and catching those unforgettable moments are coming out blurry and it can't be relied upon for videos when it always says "battery low" or when using the flash when it says "charging battery" and the photo taking opportunity is gone! I thought the blurry pictures were because of me but when taking a video and staying real still and with brand new batteries installed, the video would go from clear to blurry to clear to blurry....for whatever reason, I don't know!!! I wish I could return it for a Canon camera (Powershot 12.1 megapixel) like my daughter's who has a rechargeable battery and excellent picture and video quality!

I don't do fancy nor professional photos, so I can not say how this camera would work for that. But for my purpose of everyday, family, party, or keep sake pictures, this camera takes great pictures!Due to some health problems and medications I take, I do not necessarily have a steady hand and the auto focus with the feature to counter the shake of my hand or my none steady grasp makes a world of difference. No more shot after shot of blurry pictures.It is also easy for my arthritic hands to hold. Not too thin to try to hold, but not too big and bulky to hold comfortably.Very easy to use camera all the way around! And good clear photos!

I bought this camera because I needed something that was easy to use, could easily fit in a purse or fanny pack without having a lens stick out, and had a viewfinder as well as an LCD view screen. I mainly use a camera as a hobby and taking pictures in my classroom. I needed a camera that I enjoyed using but other people could use as well without needing instructions. I brought this camera to school and asked a couple of people who work with me to take some pictures during a field trip. My previous camera had been difficult for other people to use and took too long between shots. After using the Canon G15 their comments were: It's so quick. It's so easy to use. I really like this. Wow! It's so simple. It's FAST! We all agreed that the camera was easy to take out of the bag, turn it on, take a picture (no lens cap to take on and off), and put back in the bag while still keeping a close, watchful eye on the students. Enough said.The Canon G15 is just slightly too large to fit comfortably in a pants pocket but it is small enough to easily fit in a coat pocket, small purse or fanny pack when traveling. No lens cap to worry about loosing. Ease of use, quality photos, and quick response time made the Canon G15 a winner for me.
