This memory card did not work in my Canon A590 camera as it stated it would in the listing. It is the correct memory card for my camera but did not work, it said "Memory Card Error" every time I tried it. Waste of my money.

HD video and zoom excellent. Low light results less impressive. A little chunky and heavy, but at least it feels like a real camera! Battery life is better than anticipated. Very good buy!

I bought this SX 160 because a friend has the SX 130 and we liked it so much.This camera is even better. It has HDMI and USB ports on it for flexibility.16x zoom goes to 64X digitally for very close up shots.I bought rechargeable AA batteries they work great. I had only one set of 2 in it for my whole 9 day vacation without needing to change them. Very good power management!Many people don't realize the huge advantage of cameras that use AA batteries. Most cameras have battery packs that must be recharged and eventually repurchased at a high cost. It's something to consider when shopping, see what kind of batteries it takes.A great deal for $149.

I'm not going to be techinical - can't be anyway. I would love to say that the problems are me and not the camera but I think we're about even.

I thought this would be a good compromise between what I wanted and what I could afford when the lens covers started sticking on my Powershot A650 and on my husband's handy dandy A720 IS but it wasn't. I replaced his camera with another A720 because the lens cover fell apart suddenly. And, yes, I still battle with the A650 sticking lens cover, often bringing out the A650 rather than suffering the somewhat fuzzy results with the SX1 IS. This is not CMOS at its best.

If I need a camera quickly I grab the A720. I get the SX1 IS if I want to take photos of the dogs racing around to the back of the yard when they have company. But then I don't not get the video results I want - for that I need my now unreliable A650.

I never made a graceful adjustment from 35mm to digital but the fact is, it doesn't matter when now I'm taking pics of the cats and dogs. However, with one camera-shy cat and one camera-shy dog, I need to be able to capture the image quickly - not as easy with this camera. Our other dog and cat love the camera; so there are plenty of good photos of them, no matter which camera I use. This camera is also not as fun in low light as my earlier Canons. (I could convince my old A95 to take anything...before it purpled out. R.I.P.)

I don't like the fact that I must close the LCD screen door to use the viewfinder - what an inconvenience. Who knows when the sun just won't permit quick use of the LCD screen or the dogs running require the screen.

I'm not a photographer, I's just someone who likes to take shots of brick walls. junk trucks, industrial flats, mushrooms, sunsets, fall days and animals playing. And some of those photos are darn good. This camera just doesn't provide the fun.

Still, I know I'm not doing it justice and I have to make friends with it because until it falls victim to one of the Canon issues such as a purple screen or a sticking lens cover, we're going to be together for awhile.

It was a mistake to downgrade from 12mp to 10mp both by Canon and by me. I wanted more optical zoom and not to use the lenses in my camera bag. Big mistake.

A fast lens and relatively large sensor combine to give this camera good low-light sensitivity. Controls range from fully-automatic to fully-manual. This camera also has a zooming viewfinder, making it much easier to capture action shots. The high-resolution viewscreen on the back of this camera is fixed -- it does not tilt and articulate like the one on the Canon G1X. However, this results in a slightly thinner and more-reliable design, and is actually the reason that I didn't buy the G1X last year. The 12.1 Mpixel sensor may not be as large as some others, but it is entirely sufficient for all but poster-size prints. This camera was given a rating of 9.8 on a scale of 10 by one camera-review site, coming very close to several $1000+ cameras. I'd agree with that assessment.

I have not made ​​many photographs but from what I've seen, it should be noted that the outdoor photographs are correct, moving images (kids playing soccer or basketball) 90% out blurry. Indoors almost always have to use the flash but not too close because it burns the photographs. A curiosity: the flash have to lift a finger, it is not automatic. Get plenty of battery

I thought having this camera would be great since it takes normal batteries. I was wrong. The batteries died so quickly and it would take way to long before i could take the next picture. We ended up returning it because i was not going to work with having kids who only give you a 2 second window to take a picture.

Although the lens cap fits nice and snug on my camera, the biggest drawback is that it doesn't attach to my camera. The so-called string that comes with it does not attach to the lens cap like the picture shows. It's simply a sticky thing that you are supposed to attach to the cap. There is nowhere on the cap to put this to secure it and since it cost $10 I don't think I want to take that chance.

In a day when cell phone self-es are the trend, it's good to have a reliable camera with brand history to take the shot that is just out of arms length. The self timing multi-shot feature is an excellent way to instantly get all of everyone into the picture.

I have had this camera for sometime now and it has served me well.. I am used to the quality of bigger cameras, so I am not completly happy with this one in that way.. My little Canon A95 that I used for backpacking finally died of old age and many thousands of photos, maybe 200,000 or more.. I bought this as a replacement.. It is heavier and the photos are not nearly as crisp, but it works.. So.. If you still have chance to get one, great, but there is better stuff on the market now, so look for the updated equipment.. However, do not go for the high megapixel cameras.. High numbers and small sensors make for poor photos.. The high pixel numbers is just a marketing thing, not a quality thing..

Very nice, solidly built, easy-to-use camera that feels good in my hand. I got my A540 as a Christmas present a little over 5 years ago. It blows away the camera in my smartphone, an original Verizon Motorola Droid that I got used less than 2 years ago.

What I like about my A540:

- Easy to use. The menus and displays are easy to access and navigate. Just about anyone, even non-techies, can take good pictures in Auto mode... just gotta tell them to hold the shutter down halfway for a few seconds before snapping the picture.
- Takes nice still pictures and acceptable standard def. video with full resolution (640*480) and framerate (approx. 30 frames/second).
- The TV-out. My first digicam, an HP Photosmart 210, didn't even have a TV-out.
- Takes AA batteries. I keep several spare alkaline and rechargeable AA's in my camera bag. When the ones in the camera run out, I just simply take them out and pop in a fresh set of AA's. No need to wait for a proprietary battery to recharge.

Gripes:

- The flash takes a long time to recharge (maybe 5-10 seconds or so). I really wish Canon would have sacrificed a bit of compactness and made the A540 to take 4 AA batteries instead of just two to lessen the flash recharge time.
- The LCD display is almost impossible to see in sunlight
- Don't get rid of your camcorder. The video and sound quality, while OK, aren't as good as those of my Sony Digital8 camcorder that I've had for over 8 years
- No image stabilization! This makes it more difficult to take pics in low light or indoor pics with the flash turned off.
- Only takes 2GB SD cards or less. Does not accept any SDHC cards (4GB or more)

If I were to upgrade, it would be either to an Canon Powershot A590 (similar to the A540 but with optical image stabilization) or to a digital SLR (their cost and bulk are the main holdbacks).

This camera met all of our expectations. We had previously owned the PowerShot SX 120 IS, and this 160 takes better pictures while being somewhat easier to use. There is an image stabilization feature on this camera which maintains clarity of the photo even if the camera is slightly moved.I would definitely buy this again.

Ridiculous that Canon won't allow users any manual control in video mode (iso, shutter speed, aperture). This is one of the most requested features ever. Every time Canon release a new p&s camera, hundreds of people around the net inquire, and the answer is always "no". Such was the case with the s95/ s100/ s110/ G12/ and G1x. Why won't Canon just grant their users this simple request? I (like many others) are supporting other brands because of this one (repeated) kick to the groin by Canon. PLEASE Canon, just add manual control in video like your competitors are doing for us. Pentax did it with the Q, Nikon w/ the V1 & J1, Panasonic w/ the LX-5 & LX-7, Sony w/ the rx100 & NEX Series, Olympus has full manual with the E-P2/3, etc, etc. A $500 "advanced p&s" should have it. This doesn't (again). Sadly Canon keeps ignoring their user's requests. This (and the G1x) could be awesome. But instead... must keep buying Panasonic's to get it.

we bought this for a relative. I hate buying gifts for other people, but it has been a good camera, I have to admit : ) Main reason we got it was because it uses the internationally available AA-size batteries, so it seemed good for traveling. But, personally i like my camera better which uses the compact rechargeable batteries. This camera would be good in a post-apocalyptic world that has no electricity but where batteries can be bartered for precious drinking water.

I have owned this camera for about a year and a half. I have yet to explore all of the features, and perhaps some of the problems I have would be solved if I did (so if anyone has more experience with this camera and has any suggestions to my problems I would sure appreciate it!) It's been a pretty good camera - certainly good for the money, and though I have had some issues all in all I've been happy with it. I bought it almost exclusively to take pictures of my son - who was about 6 months old at the time of purchase - and while the quality of pictures is certainly better than the last camera I had (dinosaur), the shutter-speed is slow (typical of digital cameras) and the 'ready light' is so bright that most living subjects - especially a baby - have to look away. Likewise I find the flash to be SO bright that many of my pics are ruined by the severity of the light, but without it the quality is pretty bad. Therefore I frequently find myself taking 200 pictures in the hopes that maybe 20 will be decent enough to keep. My son is very photogenic, its just hard to get the pics I want with the speed, and honestly that light is just awful (in order to get a good close-up head-shot, that orange ready-light has to be right in your eyes... Ouch). But again this is all fairly typical of digital cameras in general, so I don't hold it against this particular cam too much (what I really need is a REAL camera, with REAL film, but that costs REAL money which sadly I just don't have. REALLY!). Its small and very comfortable to hold and use, which is great cuz I have small hands. The red-eye-remover function only works maybe half the time -and yes I've tried different settings-, but when it does work its super. And the zoom is decent, although the quality changes completely, becoming a bit fuzzy (I actually really like the effect, its super clear but at the same time fuzzy - hard to explain but zoomed pics look beautiful and vibrant to me) but its not good enough to take a picture of something very small, like a large spider, which is unfortunate for me cuz that's a hobby of mine. But I love the freedom of knowing I can get a better lens for it if I choose, and look forward to seeing how that affects the zoom and picture quality. Anyway some of my favorite features are the view-finder (so rare in a digi-cam) the PHENOMENAL night-shots (some of the BEST pictures I've taken with this camera have been in pitch-darkness, so at those times I praise the flash! It is UNREAL how good a pic you can take when you can't even SEE your subject!), as well as the video feature, which I use a lot (love being able to immortalize special moments in live-action with the ease of pressing a button on something smaller than my wallet)! Also love being able to preview pics -it automatically gives you a quick preview of the last pic you took, which is awesome- and of course you can look at and edit all of them in-camera quickly and easily. Whether I use the video or not though, the battery life is pretty bad. I can't use regular batteries AT ALL anymore, even to take ONE picture - they HAVE to be rechargeable. Frustrating, especially since it wasn't like that when I first got it. Meaning, I guess, that with frequent use something happens internally, which is worrisome. Regardless of the probs though, I give this camera 4 out of 5 stars, simply for value, simple features, ease of use and quality of some of the priceless pics I HAVE gotten out of it. And again there's a lot of features I've never even used yet! Certainly worth the money in my opinion.

Having been a user of Canon cameras for six years I was extremely disappointed by the SX150.Pictures are repeatedly out of focus(IT seems to prefer the background to the subject)The macro setting refuses to coincide with the flash and the battery usage surpasses the greedy..I have returned to using the PowershotA580 which this was supposed to replace-a much better and more reliable camera.Incidentaly the movie button on theSX150 is very badly placed.

I have a Canon EOS 2TI that I love and use the canon 24mm-70mm L lens. Love the pictures it takes but when traveling it is simply too much to carry. With this camera I can leave the big beast at home and still get great shots, even in low light. It's also much better at taking videos.

Totally worth it to get this camera. Takes better pictures than I have ever taken in my life. Love that it takes high-quality shots, and has a bunch of cool settings that I can play around with. I'm still working on finding better lighting solutions, but that is more user error than camera error. I love the pictures I have taken with this camera, and it's easy enough to use that I don't feel like an idiot. :)

Of course, you can go only so close or bring something only so far away into focus, but what would you expect from a camera in this price range? It totally has fulfilled my expectations. I consider myself cusping on the semi-pro level as I have several years of experience with mostly NIkon DSLRs. The weight around my neck with those heavy cameras can be over bearing when it comes to a full day of shooting.Was wanting a small camera that I could wear on a belt (with case loop) and with a zoom range that would work for 90% of my photo needs. This camera has that range (28mm-300mm), is light, provides excellent colors, has all the modes for shooting that I would ever care for, is decent when it comes to noise (anything over 800 is not pleasant). Since I live in sunny Florida and take most of my pics outdoors, this is rarely an issue.Very happy with my results so far and it will be my camera of choice when the Nikon creates pain. Only thing is, should have waited for price drop.........it is really a value below $150.

My attraction to and satisfaction for the Canon G15 echoed many of the sentiments expressed in other reviews and observations. By reverting back to the stripped down form factor of my tried & true G10, I am once again able to leave the house with an updated G15 in my back pocket which makes it infinitely better than any camera made that one leaves at home because it's too big to hassle with. My one disappointment is not with Canon regarding anything to do with the excellent performance of the G15, but with Adobe for NOT issuing a CAMERA RAW plug-in update for this camera for any edition of Photoshop other than their new CS6. I have a perfectly adequate edition of Photoshop CS5 and can not work on my RAW files with this camera in PS. That's a drag and a factor that needs to be out there if anyone is considering this camera and assuming that they can use older editions of Photoshop with the RAW files it shoots.
