Just got this and its seems great so far. Got this as an Xmas gift for the wife. Typical excellent Canon, I've had two other Canons before. One thing that you might want to note is that it does not come with a memory card. I had several laying around, so no problem for me. But you will need to pick one up if this is intended as an Xmas gift. Your recipient won't be able to do a thing without a memory card. I read a lot of the reviews and didn't see this mentioned by anyone. The image of the items in the box don't show one, so I just overlooked the fact, but. every digital I've bought before came with at least a low byte memory card.

I take two kinds of photographs: Pictures of family, and pictures of bugs.I'm strange like that.The macro setting is perfect for my bug photos, allowing for close-up shots that are crisp and perfectly in-focus. The rest of the camera pictures my family in whatever situation they may be in at the time; my daughter running around in a new toy, my wife making a face at the camera because she hates pictures, positioned family shots or candid.It's light-weight, very durable (my 16-month-old daughter got hold of it and tested the durability for me) and the battery life is fantastic. This is a perfect camera for what I do.

Arrived on time, but I haven't used it yet. Taking it on my oversea trip in 2 weeks. However, I like the feel and smallness of he camera.

We bought this camera for our daughter to take on a trip to South America, wanted a camera which did not require rechargeable batteries. We found AA size lithium batteries at RS.She arrived home from month long trip yesterday - photos are excellent quality, had some video too. Made it through the month with just the one 8 pack of the lithium batteries and she took over 2200 pics. Hers became the go-to camera for the entire group, people liked the view-finder and found the camera easy to use, so they grabbed it for the quick opportunity shots and whenever they were handing it to someone to take group shot of them. She has some good zoomed in shots, and she tried all the modes, like fish eye and extra vivid, she says that really captured the blues and greens of the water in Galapagos. And even after a month of backpacking, I see a few very minor scuffs but it seems to have held up the the trip very well, lens cover is working fine and intact, view finder screen is fine.Definitely satisfied with this camera, would recommend it for backpacking/travel.

The Canon SX150 is a really great camera. I'm not away of any other camera that comes close to it for value for money and in red looks even more cool. Built like a brick and I've dropped it and still works fine. It's not a pocket camera like the SX200 series it is a hunk of a camera, but I don't mind that. You can however still get it in decent size jean pocket and definitely jacket pocket, it's not huge like a bridge or DSLR.
I shoot night shots and macro mostly and this does the job brilliantly, due to the manual modes it has. Also a great lens to go on the front of it is the LittleBigShot which gives it DSLR performance for macro shots.
So saying all that why only 4 stars and not the max. I have to drop a star because of it's slow, almost non existent continuous mode, it really is terrible, even for a compact camera. I also have the SX220, cameras are my thing and the 220 blows it out of the water as regards speed. However if shootings wildlife and more static subjects is your thing this is a top camera it really is. These are some of the shots I've got with it [...]

This was my first-string from mid-2008 until mid-2011 when it suffered its untimely demise in the Atlantic Ocean. At the time that I drowned it it was still working perfectly. Loved this camera. So comfortable, so easy, so substantial-feeling for such a little thing (or little at the time, anyway). Great battery life with those special Energizer AAs made for electronics. I never had any issues like some other reviews have mentioned. Picture quality was great in general, and particularly so for its size and ease of use. I don't remember having any complaints about this camera.
After nearly a year of making do without the 590, I finally decided on replacement camera. I chose a Canon SX40IS (which I love) for my 'big' camera, and recently picked up a Canon A3300IS as my new go-anywhere camera. The A3300 I do not love. In fact, I went back to the store and bought a Panasonic FH25 for a side-by-side comparison. I generally like the Panasonic and, as is to be expected, its fancy features are much improved over the A590IS. (Oh, and it's purple!) But in comparing pictures at 100% resolution, I see very little difference between my supposed 16MP Panasonic and my 8MP 590IS. The A3300IS (also a supposed 16MP) is even less impressive than the Panasonic. I know it's not all about the megapixels but for a jump from 8 to 16, I really expected better - especially from another PowerShot. For the $150-ish price point, I'm not sure the newer Canon point-and-shoots really have anything on the 590 other than fancy features of dubious photographic value. Photo-quality seems to be equal, if not less than the 590.
After spending an evening hemming and hawing and deciding which (if either) camera to keep, I decided on the Panasonic. Those neat little features may be largely useless but once I'd seen that I could have them in both my 'big' camera and my P&S, they were hard to resist. (And did I mention that it's purple?) But I also hopped on Ebay and picked up a used 590IS 'just in case'. There are some trips that simply must result in memories preserved 'on film' and you don't want to be caught with a camera glitch, or stuck with proprietary batteries you can't charge or replace at a moment's notice. The 590IS will mostly be for my daughter's use, as she's developing an interest in photography, but I also plan to make sure she brings it along whenever we set off on one of those 'not to be missed' trips. The bottom line for me is that there are certainly some neat little cameras that have come out in the last few years and I'm enjoying the new features that they offer. But if I'm creating memories that I absolutely must document in pictures, it's hard to beat the comfort and security of having this little camera in my bag, even if it's alongside two others.

I hate buying cameras. Seems like I spend the most time researching cameras and can never come up with the perfect camera for what I want for the price I want to pay.This is a great little camera. If there's anything negative, it's how long it takes before I can take the next picture. My other digital camera took a little while, but this one is slow. There is an option where you can take a lot of pictures in a row but I haven't tried that except when I first read the directions. I will give that a try.I bought this to replace our camera when we lost the case and charger. This one uses AA batteries. So far the battery life doesn't seem too bad on regular AA batteries. I carry two sets in the case. I bought it to use on our second Yellowstone trip this year and it was great. Batteries lasted for the whole 7 days trip. It took some really nice movies and pictures.I'm happy with the camera and hope I can go several years before I have to research another camera online!

Very good resolution it is all that you need if you need take pictures under water with very good quality. 5x optical zoom its enough if you want to take a pictures making snorkel. Strong design to supports falls or knockings. The camera comes with a internal GPS in order to take geo-refered pictures its a very cool feature.

I bought this at least three years ago, and it still works! I am not nice with the cameras, either. I was in real estate, so this camera would sit at the bottom of my purse, get dinged up. Its all scuffed up, but still works great. I can't tell you how many memory cards I have gone through with this thing...that's how much I use it. With work, I probably would take about 50-100 pictures/ week for the first two years I owned it. Great!!

A very good value camera that meets my needs. Unfortunately it's not very robust and dropping it once onto a carpet floor seems to have affected the zoom.

For a point and shoot, it doesn't have a lot of good effects.I like the big LCD, and the fact that it kind of looks like an SLR.It has manual functions like shutter time and others.But honestly the images come out kind of grainy and it's hard to lock on with macro.If I had to buy this camera again, I'd pick something else.

In the automatic setting, it takes blue skys and white, and the colors usually come out dull... I end up having to fix them all in photoshop to boost the color.

Needed a camera capable of taking close-ups of jewelry as well as serving as my "everyday" camera for candid shots! Needed it right away -- got it right away! Needed it to be user-friendly -- and it is!! Only complaint is with Canon -- the software that came with the camera does not work. Canon blamed Microsoft -- Microsoft blamed Canon -- and neither has a fix for it...

After reading all great reviews I was convinced and purchased this camera. I tested it for 10 days and then returned. This camera has worst low light photos. photos taken inside room are blurred. Even when inside room sufficient day light, this camera need flash else you will get worst quality photo. Do not purchase if you are looking for camera for using inside home family events like birthdays or home functions it is useless for low light photos. Outside photos are nice.

We take a lot of photos, both for work and for pleasure. After a good bit of research and knowing what we were looking for, low light capable, good video, great macro, image quality and versatile, we decided to go with the G15. I am frankly amazed at what we were able to get for this price range. This camera is a monster. It has features that I didn't even know I wanted. I love the C1 and C2 custom settings. In our studio I just set up a custom light setting and programed my shot under C1 and I have never had to readjust the white balance. Some of the objects I shoot, white on white, are very hard for a camera to read, this one I just switch to manual focus and no problem. outdoor shots, low light, zoom, video, it does it all well. Battery life is amazing. Even using the flash just to test its limits, the camera keeps going.Previous cameras: Lumix (never again. Quality went down so much), Canon Rebel and Canon D7

I purchased this with the Canon Waterproof Case WP-DC51, made specifically for this camera. It worked very well underwater. I was impressed with the ability to change the white balance setting for underwater use. Pictures and videos are sharp and clear.

I just purchased this camera yesterday. As with all cameras, there are several buttons, that have different functions in different modes. This camera only comes with the shortest, least informative "quick start guide", not a pocket users manual. It does come with a disk, of which you can print out the over 200 pages of 8.5x11 . But how inconvenient is that to use, when you're away from home, trying to shoot, and figure out all of the buttons, and modes? Additionally, while I sat at my computer, reading (scrolling page after page)and trying to figure out how to operate the SX160 IS, the low battery indicator light, started to flash within 45 minutes! Others reviewers have already commented, on this camera's thirst for batteries. I called Canon, requesting a pocket manual. I was told (politely) that Canon no longer printed users manuals, and that they would send me the 8.5x11 printed manual. I am returning this camera to Amazon today, I am very disappointed in Canon's decision not to print a pocket sized manual. How much would that cost them?
