Digital electronics must always change and add new capabilities. Unfortunately all changes are not for the good. This SX10IS was fun to play with for night shots, star shots, star trails and more. I have not found this capability available in subsequent iterations of this camera although I really like the longer and longer lenses.

This card worked in a camera that only would work with a SD only marked card. Ordered it and the camera will excepts this card where the newer card would not work because of format troubles.

My very expensive Canon SLR has broken twice since I purchased it - the first time the repairs cost me over $200 and I wasn't willing to invest that much in repairing it again. So hubby did a whole bunch of research on what is the best, affordable point and click camera out there and came up with this. I LOVE IT. Very easy to use and the great part it has lots of the great features that I had based my purchase of the SLR on. I'm very pleased with this product!

This is a great camera. It takes great pictures and is easy to use. Easy to down load to computer also

The SX130/150 series compacts suffer from poor optical performance, sluggish response, and bad battery life.

The lense produces soft images, with sharpness really dropping off at the edges. Grain is visible in the sky and darker areas even at the 80 ISO setting. Macro performance is bad.

What I find truly appalling is the speed of the lense in terms of 'light-gathering ability'. The lense is rated at F3.4 widest aperture, but even in pretty bright conditions, the shutter speeds are slow, and this results in blur when taking pictures of animals and action scenes etc. How can this be ?

Well, I compared the results from an older Powershot A610 (2006)set to the same focal length, aperture and ISO setting. I found that for the same scene, the old Powershot chose a shutter speed twice as fast ! Obviously a faster shutter produces sharper pictures. Canon are not being entirely honest with their claim of F3.4. Now the SX150 has image stabilisation which helps of course, but this is no substitute for a fast lense ! If there is any movement in the scene, it will be blurred. One way around this is to select a higher ISO, but this increases the grain.

Another problem is the focus performance - the old Powershot will focus reliably on a wide range of objects - a jet flying high in the sky, or an object 1cm away. The SX will not lock onto an aircraft, and it often gives the green symbol in macro mode, only to find on review that it's out of focus ! There is only one focus option - centre, whereas the old powershot has a moveable focus point so that you can compose a scene with the main object of interest off-set to one side.

Rather than chasing a higher pixel count, Canon should have concentrated on better optical and focus performance - and all those manual options simply can't come to the rescue...

I love this camera. It is just the right size. Not too big, and not too small. I got this camera for an upcoming trip to Europe and don't want to lug around a heavy SLR with all the extra lenses and accessories. And some other models, like the Canon S110 or the Sony RX100, are just too small for my large hands. This camera is a great compromise. I've been using it around town to learn all the features before my trip and so far it is living up to the great reviews. The pictures are sharp, the colors are excellent, the camera is quick and responsive. I'd love to hear from any pros out there suggestions on how to set up the custom modes, C1 and C2, for my trip. I'll be going to the Swiss Alps as well as Lake Como and Paris. I'd like one setting for the vast landscapes of the Alps and a second for shooting interiors, like churches and museums.

MY WIFE HATES THIS CAMERA. .FIRST SHE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BATTERIES DYING TOO QUICKLY UNTIL I GOT HER THE RCHARGABLE , NOW THE PICTURE QUALITY IS TOO GRAINY.

This was a gift and I love the camera so far. I have a Canon DSLR and wanted something smaller to carry for every day. Love the size, the features, and weight of the camera. It will be fun learning all the features of this camera. Having been a Canon user for years makes it easier it jump right in with the G15.

I bought this cam since 2008, until now I use it, it's a very good cam and based on thes specifications it's still new.

I've had this camera for years, using it mostly to photo-document my motorcycle trips. It's seen hard service. Not as hard as the Elph it replaced, which died an untimely death from a 70 mph pavement impact. But I digress.

So, as I was saying, I've dragged this camera to heck (Missouri, specifically) and back. Well, beyond back; it's been as far west as the Oregon Pacific coast. I usually keep it in the pocket of my motorcycle jacket, where it enjoys whatever weather protection the textile jacket affords. It worked perfectly for years, and then (probably because of bugs and road grime stuck in the lens cover) the lens stopped opening or closing completely. I'd turn it on, take a shot, and then discover that the lens cover hadn't completely opened, leaving black triangles on the upper right and lower left corners of the shot. But a bit of cleaninig made the problem go away.

The modes:

I've never understood what the difference is between auto mode and easy mode. Both of them are complete "point: shoot" modes. The night snapshot mode is good for exactly what you'd expect. And the macro mode is very useful. I never did manage to get any decent results from the manual focus mode. I do like that it's easy to turn off the flash (an option that many more point and shoot operators should take advantage of; if your subject is more than a couple of feet away, you're better off without the flash - spectators in stadiums, take note). Something else I like about this camera is that the shutter lag is unusually short; it's not quite DSLR-instantaneous, but it's darn fast. One last point of praise; the inclusion of an optical viewfinder is great. It has real advantages over using the LCD screen to set up the shot, especially in bright sunlight.

Now the "but." This is an older camera. For what this costs, you can set yourself up with a decent used DSLR or a much newer point and shoot, with features like sweep panorama, smile detection (not just face detection), and so on for much less money. Note that I'm not saying you can get cameras with more megapixels. You can, but there are much more important criteria than megapixels. Unless you print bigger than 11x17 on a regular basis, and you need to crop down and then print that big, you don't need tons of megapixels. 8 megapixels is plenty; heck, if you never print bigger than 8x10, 4 megapixels will do just fine.

This is a great camera. Small, lightweight and easy to use and takes really good clear pictures. I love it.

Love this camera!!!! I've shown it to my photographer friends and they can't believe I got such a great deal! They've shown me alot of different things to do with the camera...... I'm really pleased with it!!!

Excellent camera, more sophisticated than I ever imagined. I'll probably never be able to use all of it. No trouble downloading the software.

For the money, this is a lot of camera. Well built with a solid body. Images come out really sharp. In well lit compositions, it is hard for me to tell the difference between photos taken with my DSLR and those taken with the G15. Price fluctuates a lot on amazon. In one week, I have seen it go from $450 to $300 to $400 then back to $350. If you can get it at $300-$350, it is a steal.

One of the last Canon cameras that use AA batteries. I use 2 Lithium AAx9 Energizers. Great point and shoot. Wish it had fold out LCD like my PowerShot A 640

I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CANON CAMERA AND NEVER OWNED A COMPACT, BUT THIS LITTLE CAMERA WORKS GREAT.
WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A SMALLER CAMERA.

Takes very good pictures. Easy to use. Takes AA batteries. All it has to do now is last. Nice red color

The SX160 is a good compromise for a "point and shoot" and an ultra zoom ... it is small and light but takes good pictures and is relatively intuitive to operate. on trips the ultra zoom gets pretty heavy around your neck and is always bouncing on your chest as you walk... hopefully this camera will take good pictures while being easy to carry

On auto and every shot is blurry and the color and quality is terrible. The autofocus is not working properly nor is face detection. I did my homework, all the other reviews are great, just got a dud. No longer a Canon customer.

My travel camera.Overall great performance but very disappointed in its overexposure problems. Expected proper exposure under Auto mode for family photos, unfortunately over exposed photos are plenty for me. It got so bad that I am afraid of using the auto mode. One reason I carry it over my DSLR is its P&S capability!Focusing takes time. It is understandable but annoying given the $450 price tag.

The Cannon PowerShot SX160IS is a great camera for the buck$. Takes great pictures and does a nice job of Zooming is on subject. Also the ease in ordering thru Amazon.
