Ordered this camera for a backpack/motorcycle travel camera. I own a Canon Digital SLR also. This camera has been great so far. I don't have one complaint. It is easy to use, menu is very simple, lots of options. I have taken several pictures and have not had a bad one yet. Great camera for the price, body seems sturdy even though some think it is cheap plastic.

I really like the ease with which you can use this camera. I keep it in my bag and am ready any time. It doesn't zoom as well as a more expensive camera, but I knew that when I purchased it. I just wanted a camera that was small enough to keep with me, and it takes beautiful pictures and videos. The videos are so crisp and clear that you feel you are there. The sound is better heard while replaying on the computer or tv, but again, that is not a problem. I liked it so much, I bought one for my sister's birthday!

I was a little disappointed with the first one I received as I took it on vacation and noticed that there must have been internal defect that left a line on all of the photos with light blue and tan in the backgound ?! ... however, Amazon was great at exchanging it. I have nothing, but good things to say about the replacement. Overall, it's great value for the money and it takes much better photos than my old Fuji which is why I still give it a 4 of 5 despite my negative impressions of the first one.

At the time of purchase, I did a lot of research to see if the color was true to life. Turns out that this was the cheapest camera which was truest to color according to several independent tests. Because I was using this to photograph paintings, that is all I needed. TODAY I'd buy something else. This camera is heavy with the added batteries. And bulky.

This camera held up well for 5 years, then I lost it. No lens errors, mechanical issues, though the battery compartment was damaged after normal wear. It wouldn't close.

The video quality of this little toy is beyond anything I've seen. Images are sharp and colors are vividly true to the original scene. However, if you try to play the video clip straight out of the camera, they don't look as well, because most of the video players can't play the mjpeg video very well, and also the size of file is very large. However, if you try to compress it using VirtualDub (with file size reduced by at least 7-10 times), the resulting video plays so smoothly and the noise (in of low light situation) is so much reduced. I have no doubt that the video quality from this little gadget is way superior than most of digital camcorders on the market. I have a 3CCD Parasonic camcorder and when comparing TX1 videos with those of Parasonic, there is no doubt that TX1 is way better than Parasonic.

The still pictures (using built-in flash) are also very good, considering that TX1 can also take excellent videos. Of course you can't compare the image quality with that of a SLR camera (with a dedicated flash), but all the pictures that I've taken indoor are of very good quality.

To rip all these benefits from the camera, however, you have to invest a good high-speed SDHC card (e.g. ADATA 8GB or 16 GB class 6), which you can buy from eBay for about $60-100 (8-16 GB). Then, you can shoot your video for about 30-60 minutes at the highest resolution.

Took about 600 vacation photos with the A470 about a week after I got it and I was very satisfied with the results. On a handful of shots it didn't seem to focus properly, but by looking the shot on the screen after I took it, I know that I wanted to snap another shot in those few instances. The image stabilization worked well - I didn't have too much trouble due to camera shake, despite having to hold it at arms length to take pix, rather than look through a viewfinder which I had been accostomed to. Shot almost everything at 5 Mpixel rather than 7 MP, though I did use the widescreen mode a couple dozen times, which I was very happy with. It came in handy for some wide landscapes & tall objects that I shot. Of course, it's easy to crop a digital image, but it's also nice to have the widescreen mode built in to the camera.

I pre-ordered this camera and paid full price because I couldn't find another camera with a similar features list at this price point. I haven't been disappointed. I've taken it on trips to San Francisco and China and it performed flawlessly. I took about 75 pictures before I had to swap the rechargable batteries I'm using (Energizer sells a nice 120/240V collapsible charger with 4 2300 mAh rechargable AAs for about $15). I haven't used all the features but made good use of the manual mode settings for night photos of the Golden Gate. I had to deal with camera shake at high zoom levels but that is a problem with any lens above 200mm.
As expected, digital noise begins to show up at ISO settings above 400. If the lighting is good the processing time is short. However, processing is a bit longer in low light conditions.
In general the controls are logically placed, the buttons are not too small, and the menus are easy to follow. I find the scroll dial on the rear a bit clumsy. Occasionally, I push too hard and make a selection by rocking the dial rather than scrolling.
I added a SanDisk 2Gig Ultra II memory card with the USB feature and highly recommend it.
I was looking for a camera that I could use in Auto when I don't have the time or desire to compose a shot but offered the option of manual controls. I found it. With the features, 8 meg resolution, and 10x optical zoom (36-360mm equivalent) this camera is only one step shy of a DSLR without the bulk.

This camera is excellent. I have been using a Kodak Easyshot for almost 6 years, which my family and I have loved. However, six years later, the Canon is proving to be an amazing upgrade.

The A590 is a perfect "grab-n-go" camera. While it is not small, it is also not too bulky to fit into my wife's pocket book, or for me to carry around for a few hours.

I really enjoy the image stabilization and both my wife and I have found the camera very easy to use. The "easy" feature is nice, but almost unnecessary as the other options for picture taking are pretty self explanatory.

Overall, I highly recommend this camera for people who aren't looking to be photographers, but need a camera that performs well and takes pictures that, for me, almost pass as photographer quality.

Canon does it again with a superb piece of equipment. I purchased this model because of it's use of AA batteries. Some of us photography enthusiasts still like replaceable batteries instead of the internal rechargeable ones. Photo quality is excellent. Its "smart" processor is one of a kind. Pop up flash also gives more direct control over the flash unit. The only drawback for me is the lack of a wider angle lens for close up group shots.

We got this camera just before the birth of our first baby. We've found the basic usage easy to understand and have captured tons of good pictures without needing to read the manual first. There's obviously a lot more you can do with this camera if you have time to figure it out, but I appreciate the simplicity of necessary functions and potential for more too. The resolution was high enough for me to put great professional-looking shots on my business web sight as well.

I wanted to buy a simple yet efficient point and shoot camera and the a590IS was worth its money. I particularly liked the scenery settings like foliage or night mode which was very useful for me during my outdoor trip
i'd recommend this camera for anyon who wants a good point and shoot camera and doesnt want to spend much.

Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

We got this camera because our A620 failed to work right before my daughter's 5th Birthday. I opted for another Canon because we really liked the ease of use and quality of pictures from the A620. We'd used that camera almost daily with 5 y/o and 2.5y/o kids.
THe A590IS works OK. The pictures are adequate, but seem to be less defined than the A620. My only other real complaint is the recharge time from picture to picture. THe A620 is faster (maybe two extra batteries helps?). The decrease in battery use (two from four) makes the A590IS lighter, but also 'feels cheaper'. We ae overall satisfied, but we went ahead and got the A620 fixed since we really like it's design and functionality.

Anteriormente tenía otra Camara Digital CANON. Ya deseaba otro modelo un poco mas moderno que incluyera mas opciones. Siempre he preferido mayor calidad aunque eso no implique un tamaño super pequeño.
Con esta cámara he obtenido imágenes de insuperable calidad, y por el precio, es mejor aún! Estoy muy satisfecha con mi compra...

It's extremely unfortunate but I can't help looking at this as a predatory product. There's no good reason to make the camera require a proprietary design to begin with but then to charge this much money for it -- it's insulting. The quality is fine but for less than half the cost, you can buy a charger plus four AA batteries and recharge them galore. Heck, you could buy three more sets of perfectly good AA batteries and never ever run out of juice.

I'm a Canon fan but enough is enough. The camera's Excellent, the lenses are Fair to Good, the AC adapter is a bad buy for the money.

This is my 3rd and best "Point & Shoot" so far. Last one was a Cannon A560. Like most, it was fine outdoors, but gave poor results indoors or under artificial lighting. I am not a "Camera Geek" so just have to go by quality and this model produces awesome pix without tweaking. I am just now studying the manual and learning all sorts of things to play around with. Did a short video of the cat & dog and it came out great. Very easy camera to use. My first point & shoot was an Olympus Camedia which was only a 3 Meg. & 3 optical. Awesome camera but wanted something smaller. I was disappointed in the smaller Cannon A560. The Olympus took sharper pictures. I download into the CP and usually print my own. I seem to get better pix out of the larger cameras.....especially since we travel a lot and need the zoom. I will leave the pocket size cameras to the kids that don't seem to care about the optical. I am taking this one to Tahiti. Oh, battery life is good, but if you want to take movies need a lot more media card space. Think you get about 1 hr. on a 2GB card. I have also always used rechargeable batteries in all of my cameras so no problem there. Anyway, I would recommend this camera based on the price & performance combination in this category of cameras.

I previously owned a Canon A95 [about $240 4 years ago] and this camera is very similar, but about half the price. It has almost all the same features and a few more and is much lighter - more than enough features to satisfy the average point and shoot picture taker. Great camera if you don't need all the fancy stuff that most people don't use anyway.

Its hard to find a decent digital camera under $200. I'm pleased with the purchase. It does fine for everyday family event and vacation photos. I didn't want a "midget" camera, and this has a nice feel to it. Great for the price.

It's compact, has a decent set of options for the casual user, and the interface is simple and easy to understand. You'll want to purchase a larger memory card, but this is a great little camera for the price.

If you want to learn how to use manual camera exposure controls, it's a good place to start. (Tiger Direct has a good video) Auto exposure works great as well. Slightly bulkier than a SD750 but still very compact. A great alternative to the heavy DSLR, when there's no room. The cable and download software work great, no glitches on Win XP, not sure about Linux. Download *Gimp(freeware GNU advanced image processing)for what the Canon(works well)software can't do. I want an XSi or a D80 (DSLR) but I'm keeping my money right now. Also, I used Super Saver shipping and I live in Massachusetts, I got the thing in two days !

I have searched for Olympus (I had an Olympus before)and Canon and after looking through different reviews, I have chosen the Powershot SX100IS. The reason is that this camera has full automatic functionality, plus many manual settings. As I like to play with shutter time etc. to make beautiful pictures at night using a stand I feel that this is one of the best smaller camera's that can do the tircks I want. It's small (smaller then the Olympus I got) with many options. The first battery pack ran down very quickly and I am now testing Alkaline batteries and will buy a set of type 2300 rechargable batteries to test. Still have to perform a lot more tests and settings, but firt impression is very, very good!!!

I had A510 bought in 2004. I was not satisfied with its low light performance- flash recycle time and the picture quality at 4x zoom. A590 has very few improvement above A510.

Its LCD is bigger, picture quality at 4x zoom is better.Red eye has improved. But flash recycle time and shutter lag and low light performance is not improved. It has image stabilization but its useless.Anyway for $125.00 who will give your more?

Alright. For being my first camera, I liked it at first. The main reason was because it would tell you in understandable english what setting you had it on. Another thing I liked is that when you are looking at the pics, the camera detects what way you are holding the camera, and displays the picture so it's right side up whichever way you are holding it.

Now, what is making me sell the camera and buy a different one is that well, the 5 pixels makes the pictures come out poor. And don't even try to take a scenery picture with this thing. But the main reason is that I have gone through 4 sets of batteries in one day. I wasn't even taking that many pictures, and was turning it off in between. What I think is ridiculous is that it doesn't even come with a charger, which was a very poor choice for Canon to make. One more downfall is that the display screen is a little small, it doesn't bother me that much, but I know for some people it would be a big deal.

Right now I am looking at the HP digita cameras, and they are all looking promising!

I read reviews on quite a few cameras before purchasing this one, so I had high hopes that it would live up to my expectations. My usual camera of choice is a Canon digital SLR, but I wanted a small point-and-shoot digital for times when I can't carry my big camera around.

This camera is okay. The photos taken indoors with flash are often dark and a bit grainy, especially if the zoom is used at all. I'm rarely happy with the way my indoor shots turn out. It does best outdoors - those photos have much better color and brightness. However, in auto mode it does a poor job with moving objects - they always blur. I have to play around a bit with the other modes to see if I can get better action shots with it.

In summary, this camera isn't as good as I hoped, but it's better that having no camera at all.
