I perefer Canon camera for years. So I like Canon SX 100IS camera. It is conpact, enough functions for ordinary users and for professionals. Especially I like a camera which has a button on the body for self timer. It is very convenient. SX-100IS has it. Also I like a camera which has a swinging monitor screen. Canon 6 series has the swinging LCD, but it does not have a self timer button on body. Otherwise I prefer Canon 650 to the others.

This camera is exactly what i needed for my intentions. to be able to take pictures of the dates that my girlfriend and i go on, for camping and fishing. it is very nice. if you are you are looking for better detail something that is high tech and look for a different camera. because this is just a common point and shoot and that is what i needed.

pros
its a comparatively small camera with the features of larger camera. i like taking panoramic pictures but use it mainly on social events. the face recognition feature also lets you know that the camera is focus on what's important to you. the night feature is great too.
cons
a little (just a little) too bulky to fit in your pocket. otherwise, the features more than make up for the bulkiness. after taking a picture, it may take just a little for it to come back to be ready for the next picture. again the feature more than make up for the slight delay.

consider carrying a little camera pouch. get yourself a couple of 2G SDs and 2 extra AA rechargeable batteries and your set for a day of videos and stills.

i also recommend the silver. most carry only the black one. you may pay a little extra for the silver one but its worth it. it looks better. you can see the camera better specially in darker scenarios including the little labels on the camera. this may not seem important until you're there and have to hand off the camera to someone whose not so familiar with the camera.

I wanted a good camera that I could just point and shoot or manually set if the situation called for it. This camera is so easy to use and it gives me the "quality" versitility that I was looking for. The zoom lens is easy to adjust for a long distant shot or a portrait photo. I especially like the way you can download the pictures into the computer crop, or do whatever else you want to do with them and then save the picture to the desired album in your computer--or upload them to have them processed. I strongly recommend this camera to the beginner or a experienced person.

The Canon A470 has a great price and great features. I like it better than the older model I had, an A85. The older had only 4mp, and appeared to have many more controls. The A470 takes only 2 AA batts, vs the 4 batts for the A85. I need a SIMPLE camera. The features for the price are tops.

I will never use anywhere near the number of settings .., but nice to have them available for the once a month usage. Menu setup very intuitive. Controls clearly marked. Screen so-so in bright light but you have a viewfinder (hooray) and a good lens and good value..Nice feel in the hand.

The AS590IS is a great camera for me. I have had a number of 35 mm cameras and one digital camera. This camera is easy to use especially for those that are not really high tech. There are functions that a person can do manually if they understand the camera and how to use the functions. There are a number of settings that are easy to select and use. I would recommend this camera it is a good value.

I had to return this as Canon told me the camera must be defective. The batteries would drain after two to three minutes. So I got my new one today and will see how it works. I recommend getting rechargeable batteries for this camera as I have been told you only get three to four hours of use for every two you put in.
Other than that I love it! Good color and I love that when you turn the camera a different direction the picture formats accordingly.

I was looking for a new camera that was smaller, had at least 10x zoom and used AA batteries. This camera finally met those conditions. I was not disappointed with this purchase. I was familiar with the way Canon cameras worked and this one was just as easy to operate as the ones I had purchased for friends as gifts before.

I like the manual flash engage feature (flip up flash yourself when it asks) as the last camera I had made you change a lot of settings to get the shot without it. Takes the shots correctly (as best it can) if you choose not to use it.

I've had the image stabilization (IS) on video cameras before so this was new on a still for me. It works great as I used it to photograph a Rough-leg hawk hovering over prey and the shots came out better then I had hoped. The IS really helped on these pictures.

You will not be disappointed in this camera.

This camera is a great one. It has a large screen that shows clear images. The shots I have taken have all been accurate and clear. There are many easy-to-use features on the camera including an easy mode that I like so much. The camera is a very good buy with its 8 megapixels, 4x zoom (very good zoom), Optical Image Stabilizer, and 2.5-inch LCD (also lightweight and looks sharp). I am really enjoying it.

I bought this camera for my 14 year old son to take on school trips. His previous camera from another manufacturer lasted barely six months and took mediocre photos. This camera however is awesome! The pictures are sharp, perfectly exposed and the camera is really simple to use. Seems the menus are designed for regular people to understand. He appreciated that a lot.
The bottom line is he had one day to learn how to use the camera and then spent a week in Boston with his class. His photos were great and his camera experience was excellent...and I didn't break the bank for to purchase it either :)

I like this camera, all things considered. I am only a casual photographer, so the fact that it makes it easy to take good pictures is excellent for me. I think that the menus are well thought-out and a lot of fun to play around with. My only complaint is that my camera eats batteries; I usually get to use the camera on one event per set of charged batteries. It's really annoying because it doesn't show battery status until they're almost dead. Other than that, great camera.

We chose this camera over the Canon IXUS range for a number of reasons:

1. Firstly, although the IXUS range is slightly smaller and in particular slimmer, we didn't consider the size issue to be worth spending double the money on the equivalent IXUS. This camera, the A460, is perfectly small enough to fit on your pocket or handbag.

2. The optical 4x zoom is great, and you generally only get 3x zoom on the thinner style cameras. Simply, the greater the optical zoom, the better your pictures will be. Read up on the difference between optical zoom and digital zoom if you don't know the difference - it is optical zoom that is important!

3. Price. For less than £100 you can buy the camera, the DCC-400 case, a 2GB memory card which will hold approx 1000 photos, and some rechargable batteries.

We've had the camera for 6 months now, and noticed just one negative point. In dusk or dark conditions when you can't or don't want to use flash (for example in a museum, or if taking distance shots sightseeing) this camera is not great, the image is dark and grainy compared to our other more expensive Olympus camera. But other than that, and for pictures in normal light conditions, or with regular flash indoor pictures the camera is great.

IT'S A GREAT CAMERA, TAKES GREAT PICTURES. MY FAMILY WAS AMAZED AT THE CLARITY. AND HAVING AN HP PORTABLE PRINTER BOTH COMBINED WAS THE DIFFERENCE IN MAKING GOOD PIXS.
I HAVE RECOMMEND THIS A550 TO ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

2-3 weeks after my purchase the CanonA590IS is being sold at local retailers for $20 dollars less than the "great deal" from Amazon...
caveat emptor-"let the buyer beware"...I will definitely expand my options for purchase when next considering Amazon as a source.

I returned the camera and here's why:
1) the battery power is AWFUL. It takes 2AA and I had to change the batteries 5 times during the course of a few days and all I was really doing was testing the camera out. I imagine that if I were to take the camera with me somewhere were I wanted to actually use it I would need at least 2 or 3 sets of extra batteries. It was quite surprising actually.
2) The time between shots is way too long. Depending on the battery life which was usually low, it took over 4-6 seconds between shots when the flash was enabled.
3) The AF-assist/red-eye reduction light was blinding (when flash is enabled). I took pictures of my family members and they said the light was way too bright and that maybe something is wrong with the camera.

So for those reasons I returned the SX100 IS and bought a G9 which I am very happy with.

I bought this camera for a pocket, take it anywhere. It takes great
pictures, just the right size for a small camera for my hands. Despite
this, i have dropped it twice, once on pavement, once on concrete. To
my amazement, it survived unscathed both times. Can't guarantee these
results, but I am pleased. Only drawback I see is it is mediocre on
battery life. Highly recommended.

This is an "out of the box" review, and I hope to update the review in a month or two. First impressions are all good; I am familiar with Canon cameras and most of the controls were very intuitive. Which is good because the manuals are about as thick as a dictionary. If you use the auto setting or some of the "scene" selections, you will take a great photo. I also purchased the popular Scan Disk 1 gig high speed card and this is the fastest combo I have seen/used in point in shoot to quickly take pictures. The camera boots up very fast. The flash is about average to above average for a pocket type point and shoot, but if you need a robust flash you either need a camera with more accessories or just don't buy a point and shoot. The zoom is a touch noisy as I read in one review, but I really didn't find it a big deal and I don't plan on hiding out in camo for nature photos where a tiny whirl would spook an animal. I love the slightly heavier/larger size myself than an elph or smaller camera...it fits larger hands much better, but my wife can easily use it. The a/v input cover that has been so highly critized is very flimsy and I can see it breaking, but I think if you realize this and take your time using it (no kids) you will be ok. Also, I haven't made it that far yet, but apparently there is an ability to update the firmware with registration, if so, that could be a very nice feature and why I recommend buying electronic products that have been on the market a little while...updates may prevent crashes...we will see.

Pros:

- GREAT POINT AND SHOOT PICTURE QUALITY
- Nice "scene" settings - same outstanding pic quality
- Nice selection of basic manual options (F-Stop, Shutter Speed, ISO)
- Very nice movies for a smaller cam
- Fast
- Swivel viewer becomes more and more handy the more I use it
- AA batteries and SD card....you can find these items anywhere
- Nice weight and feel, easy to grip and hold, but not bulky or heavy (my take at least, others may disagree, if so, go buy an Elph)
- Underwater feature and case is COOL

CONS:
- A/V port cover is plastic and flimsy
- Stacks of manuals, not the best written(but the info is there)
- Another notch of flash power would be better(but as good as you see in this type camera)
- Didn't come with a case!
- Lens adapter is getting bad reviews
- Accessories are expensive(underwater case and lenses $100s+)
- Unless I missed something, there is no hot shoe or other means of pushing up the flash

Hope this helps! For $215, it is a great deal on a high quality 7mp camera!

The manual exposure with the option of manual focus, etc. gives you the opportunity to see how creative you could be.
It's the perfect step before investing in a DSLR.

I wanted a camera that had a 10x zoom built into it. I wanted to replace my Canon PowerShot A70 that had a small LCD display and external lense for zoom. It seemed that when I needed a zoom, I did not have the lense with me. I researched the various Canon PowerShot cameras and went to a camera store to see them in person and the salesman recommended the SX100IS camera. It is the same size as my old Canon camera but lighter due to only needing 2 batteries to operate it. I can still use my charger and have two extra batteries if I need them. I love the 2.5 inch LCD screen and do not miss the viewfinder. It fits into a smaller case so I can travel easier with it. It is easy to operate and I like the feature of the pop-up flash and the Image Stabilizer. An excellent choice for me and I saved money by purchasing it from Amazon!

While I love the Canon SD series, I was looking for a camera that used regular AA batteries. I actually bought the Canon A470 on a whim- I saw it at a local store. It was within my budget and I thought it was cute. (I bought the blue one.) So far, I'm happy to say that I love this camera. I use it when I don't feel like carrying around my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. The menu and controls are easy to find and use. The pictures that it takes come out very nice! I don't use the flash very often, so the battery life is actually quite swell.

Bad points:
The function button on the back is right where I rest my thumb and have accidentally changed settings. One needs to manually raise the flash which is a little cumbersome. Camera (in silver) is very slippery - easily dropped. Time for saving photos is long - many missed shots.
All in all a good value.

This camera is an Awesome Digital. I got this camera as an upgrade from my old HP. I must say I am completely satisfied. It takes brilliant pictures and I print mine on an old HP Photosmart printer and they are awesome. It has a lot of features I don't even use, I keep it on Auto but I like the fact I can set it to take the red eye out as it snaps the picture. If you are on the fence you won't be disappointed. I bought this off pure reviews and I am so glad I did!!! It is even cheaper now than when I bought it 2 months ago. Can't beat it!!!

This camera takes wonderful detailed pictures at most every setting. The swivel LCD can be very useful although it's left showing like a normal camera most the time. The flash pics are well-balanced and look natural on most all exposures. The real plus with this camera is the fact that it takes four AA batteries. This means it has some more amperage to recycle faster - the delay one usually waits to take the next flash picture or regular picture is negligible. Friends who have tried it say it's the most digital responsive camera they have used. When I use 4 2700 mAH NiMH Sanyo batteries, I have yet to have to replace the batteries after a full day of shooting. It's pretty hefty too, a little bigger than the normal pocket camera. I like the heft, the mass, and so much that this purchase here was for my wife so we have two of these cameras.

In short, if you are looking for a responsive fairly reasonably priced digital camera that takes great pics and has very little if any shutter lag between shots, then evaluate this. I own Sonys, other Canons and a Nikon digital camera and this one has been the best one so far. Features galore, a choice of movie settings, nice big 2.5" swiveling LCD display, SD media, USB2 connectivity for fast picture download to your PC.

I bought this for my 15 year old daughter who had been wanting a digital for a while. I haven't gone "pixel peeping" but the pictures look good when viewed on the computer screen. She has no trouble accessing the menus to go for different effects. Battery life is decent. I recommend getting re-chargeables. All in all a pretty good little camera.

I've been very happy with my camera so far. It has a distinct improvement over my Kodak EasyShare in how it handles lighting (there's a specific setting for indoors, which works great). It powers up quickly, takes crisp photos, has good color quality, and includes a lot of specialized features for what is essentially a point-and-shoot.

The only drawback is that the navigation system isn't always intuitive, which can create problems for people who only need (or can only use) a simple design, but unfamiliarity can be overcome with practice. And since it allows them to include so many specialized shooting modes, I think it's a fair trade.

la compré para cubrir un ciclo de conciertos y conferencias. estuve parado al lado de fotógrafos con equipos reflex profesionales, y mis fotografías de 8 MP estuvieron a la altura...! por supuesto hay que dominar el modo MANUAL especialmente en lo relativo a velocidad de obturación y apertura de diafragma, combinando estos aspectos con el ASA o ISO como se denomina aquí. Realmente estoy satisfecho con esta compra, y aunque tienen razón las revisiones que dicen que a ISO 1600 las fotos se ven muy granuladas, esto es algo común en la mayorái de los equipos. Para una cámara que no llega a 300 dólares, no se le puede exigir más... el ZOOM es el atractivo principal.. y los videos a 640-480 a 30 FPS quedan geniales.. 100% recomendada!!!

LOVE this camera! I'd never even held a digital camera in my hand before purchasing the 590IS in April '08 for a May Mediterranean cruise. This wonderful piece of technology produced amazing shots, many postcard-perfect. There are so many settings that I have yet to learn about but in the meantime, the "Auto" setting works just fine for me in any photo situation. No disappointments there. Great price, great product.

I own this camera for just a couple days only and here are some of my initial thoughts.
Picture quality is excellent but there seems to be a problem with high ISO settings. The interface is cool but the 10 sec time lag also sucks.
So if you want to have a camera that takes pics one after another speedily
then this is not for you.
More reviews after more use :)

This camera takes good, sharp pictures for a digital point and shoot. I'll just add a caveat that may affect some purchasers the same way it did for us: the focus/red eye light is bright orange. I mainly take pictures of my now 11-month old, and she squints and turns away from the light almost every time, which means I now have a really hard time getting good face-forward pictures of her. Pictures I can take without the flash turn out great. Some settings don't use the orange light, but then this affects the quality of the picture. This may not be much trouble to a lot of people, but for us it's made the camera significantly less useful. In addition, sometimes the delay is really long and the shot is gone by that time. The "children and pets" feature sometimes helps with that situation, but not always. We used a PowerShot A60 from '03 until it conked (RIP) and did not have these problems. If your main subject is a small child or children, I cannot recommend this camera. Otherwise, it's a good one for the money.
