It's fun taking pictures of stars and also objects that are scene in the moonlight. With the ISO maximum setting at 12800, night time pictures would appeared as daylight. Shadows are no problem with this camera. I do wish they would make a reference book for this particular camera because there are so many features. You also need to buy a separate case for it, but you can get that at anyplace such as Walmart.

Did not want to lug around my DSLR, but did not want to just use an iPhone for pictures either. Perfect solution...

I was looking to replace an older Canon PowersShot A-series point-and-shoot with something more powerful. I looked at some of the DSLRs, but I couldn't see chasing after my four-year-old with a bulky camera, much less hauling one along on trips to the zoo or on vacations. This camera is absolutely perfect for what I was looking for. Other than the ability to change lenses, this camera has probably 80% of the features of a DSLR, including all the same basic controls over aperture, exposure, ISO, etc. The autofocus is fast enough to capture an energetic toddler in action. Where the camera really shines is in low-light conditions. I hardly ever need to worry about using the flash, which results in more natural-looking pictures indoors or in twilight.

In general, I would agree with the preceding reviews, rating the G15 as an excellent camera, in particular due to the impressive f1.8 aperture which allows for pictures rivaling those of average SLRs.As long as you don't plan to take night shots.If you want to take exposures longer than one second, ISO is suddenly limited to 80. No workaround possible. This makes the camera practically useless for long exposure shots (stars, moonlit/candlelight scene etc.).Even if there are relatively few situations where I would need long exposures, the fact that I cannot do them at all with the camera means that I wouldalways need to take a second camera with me (e.g. on vacation), which of course defies the purpose of buying a compact camera.I don't know what rode Canon to put this "feature", yet again (at least also present in the S100), into the G15. It effectively cripples this otherwise excellent camera to an extent that I have to return it and buy a competitor's model.

Did not like the photo quality. I am not a professional though. But, on automatic setting, I did not like various option I have triedI could not get wireless to use.The build quality and portability is really quite within comfort limit. The coloring of the photo was ok but the zoom was not flexible.I found readying the canon website reviews for each model quite informative and eye opening before you do any purchase. This model is pretty new and the reviews are limited in number.

Takes nice, bright & sharp pics, don't get me wrong........ but the constantmenu-navigating gets tiresome. If i had known then what i know now, iwould have shopped for something more friendly. Something perhapswith a viewfinder and a more-easy-to-use Menu. Think twice here. Readreviews. OH, and the WiFi has been really impossible to connect to mypush-button WPS router.

I have had the Canon G15 for a few weeks now and have been putting it to the test. It is a well built advanced camera and the next best camera to have next to a DSLR. I use it as a backup for my Canon 50D and T2i. It is light enough to carry when you don't want to lug a big DSLR around and the picture quality is not far from a DSLR. I have taken pictures up to ISO 800 and they are sharp with no noise or artifacts.Many people complain about not having an articulated screen, but to be honest, most pro's and semi pros who buy this don't use that feature. It also has an optical viewfinder which is one of the main reasons I chose this camera. You can't hold a camera as steady holding it away from your body. Although the optical viewfinder is nice, it needs to be upgraded for parallax correction and with some shooting information to be visible.The lens is really sharp and being able to shoot at f1.8 is really helpful in low light.Photo's are crystal clear and I have blown many up to 11x14 and they are vivid with no noise.I would highly recommend this camera for anyone wanting to take pictures seriously.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received this camera. It takes excellent pictures as well as great movie shots. It has a bunch of editing features. Too many to list. Very nice and clear screen. A comfortable size that is easy to pocket! All in all, a great little camera that does a lot for a little. I think you too would be pleased overall with this camera!

I got this camera because it has 16x optical zoom and uses AA batteries.It worked well on a trip to Africa for getting good shots of the animals - including birds in trees where the zoom was essential. I got photos as good as people who had larger digital SLR cameras.Sometimes a bit slow writing to SD card when maximally zoomed in - even a faster SD card did not help in that regard.Good all-around camera. Because of the zoom capability, it is heavier and larger than some point-and-shoot models.

I think if I kept it in Auto mode all the time then the battery might last longer, but I shoot in Tv and Av a lot as well as movie mode. I'm open to suggestions.

This camera is a winner. It's got an amazing lens, is easy to use, and compact enough to stow in your purse. I took it to Alaska and got some really beautiful shots. It worked well for action too like whales jumping out of the water and bears fishing in the streams. It has a great zoom for such a small camera, and does very high quality close-up shots as well. It does use a fair amount of battery but for all its features it's a classy little camera.

The title says it all. For something so small, I though the material of the outer shell might be plastic, but even though it is it's actually quite strong and feels very good in the hand. Check out more images at my blog: [...]

This camera is much better than the old Powershot it replaced (the old one simply died). It doesn't chew through batteries the way the old one did and it takes great photos. The image stabilizing works very well, even at high optical magnification. I have always longed for a digital SLR but this camera has dampened that yearning. The ease of carrying it in my pocket means that I get lots of shots that I wouldn't have time to get with an SLR.

I'm a YouTube vlogger, and needed a new camera for my daily vlogs. This works so well! The pictures are great, the quality is fabulous, and the camera itself is beautiful!Only downsides:Battery doesn't last as long as other camerasViewfinder doesn't turn all the way around for videoLove this though! Would definitely purchase again! :)

This camera takes clear, fast shots so we can capture grandchildren on the go. My only gripe is the pop-up flash that is right where my left hand wants to hold the camera. Its automatic if needed so you can hinder its use if your hand is in the way.

Small and really amazing! Love this camera! I carry it everywhere, it is very small and captures images nicely. I love the creative shooting mode, which shoots 5 images using different filters. For the most part the other shots aren't useable, but sometimes you end up with something really great.Different than any other camera I've ever owned. The shutter release is totally unexpected, the touch screen works really well. Love it.

Will not do well with anything butNimh rechargables. You need a good charger and 8 batteries (two in camera, six backup) if you are going anywhere.And if you travel, you will need a car charger too.Internal Digix5 processing is horrendous. You must use this camera at ISO 100 as much as possible. ISO200 is tolerable. ISO400 and above, well, no enlargements capable, really. If you use only ISO100, decent pictures.My seven year old Canon Point and shoots do much better than this camera. I use Nikons for SLR shooting. I have used Canon point and shoots for over a decade, and their current lineup is a great disappointment.Comments:I returned this camera, and purchased an Olympus cheapo, which takes "better" pictures. I wanted a small pocket camera that would not be missed if I lost it or broke it. Wish I had gotten the Olympus equivilent of this camera now. Impressed with Olympus, and now VERY unimpressed with Canon point and shoots. Canon is now more dedicated to screaming "look at my big megapixels too", than providing a camera with pictures matching past cameras they have produced. If you read review everywhere, they mention the nasty artifacts with higher iso's in Canon cameras. Take the hint.Summary:If you just want a flexible point and shoot, and shoot low ISO, you should be ok. This is a fun camera. One of my "tests" is my bird's feathers. Canon fails, again at higher ISOs. Price is a bit high for this camera, but tolerable. I really would like another high end Elph (love them), but my experience with this camera puts me off now.

I'm a photography enthusiast. I wanted a point and shoot camera to eliminate of the risk and weight of lugging my DSLR everywhere. After reviewing several brands, my decision to buy this camera was partially influenced by that it is a Canon and compatible with some accessories I already own.That said...I'm enjoying it immensely. The creative filters and shooting modes are a lot of fun. A couple of the features really impressed me, specifically the ability to detect a blinking subject and the ability to replace a color in camera. Its auto modes handle exposure, focus, and white balance quite well.When you want manual control, you've got it. With the exception of Bulb exposure (the G15 doesn't have it), the manual controls are everything you need to take control of your photography.The camera itself is well made. The lens is fast and clear, burst mode is fast, and the controls are easily accessible. The metal body makes the camera feel solid in your hand. It's a bit too large to be considered pocketable, but not by very much.The viewfinder is a bit lacking. It doesn't have a focal point and it's very inaccurate at zoom. It's good for pointing the camera in the right direction in bright sunlight and that's about it.This camera meets my needs quite well. It's the point and shoot I can use in family and social situations and also small enough for me to take everywhere and capture creative photos of opportunity.If you're a Canon DSLR owner and need a point and shoot, I recommend it. I would also recommend this camera for somebody who wants to explore creative photography but doesn't want a DSLR.

I am definitely a Canon girl. Everytime I try a different brand, I always make the switch back to Canon.I was wanting a high quality camera that wasn't just a point and shoot, and wasn't a full DSLR. I've got both, and was looking for middle of the road, best of both world type of thing. Something that wasn't super heavy but still gave me high quality photos. My hope was to be able to take this on vacation and not have to lug around a DSLR all of the time. Once the price on this dropped to something I was comfortable paying, I snached it up.So far, it's been great. The photos come out clean and crisp, and its really simple to use. I was nervous about how the photos would turn out, becuse the screen makes the photos look *terrible*... But once you open them on a computer and get a better look, they're much cleaner. But seriously, the screen image is horrible. Blurry, and really low quality. I'm still not sure if that the camera's fault or mine.Used the camera at Christmas, and got some really fun shots. Also took this to the Georgia museum, and the photos came out pretty well. For just the few times I've used it around the house taking stupid photos of the dog and cats, I've got pretty good results. I'm still playing with all of the settings, but I think it'll be a good camera to have as an aside to a DSLR. Will it be the only camera I take on vacations? Probably not (don't want to chance it!) but for fun outtings and adventures, this will definitely b the camera I take.

great photos and videos on our vacation. jpg are a bit soft but that can be changed. raw files not that much better than jpg but you can't expect too much from a small sensor. can't beat it for a pocket point and shoot. fast lens comes in very handy.

This camera is excellent. I bought it to use as my back up camera for my vacation to Montana. I ended up using this camera and leaving my "good camera" at home. I was not disappointed. I didn't have a neck strap for it so that caused some inconvenience but otherwise it was fantastic. Some of the reviews complain about battery time. I had no problem with that. I took over 250 pictures on one set of batteries. I bought a dry bag that fit the camera wonderfully for when we were fishing the Yellowstone river. I have always had great experiences with Canon cameras.

I heard good things about this camera. Used it twice. I basically wanted a point and shoot. The photos were over lit, and grainy. Same with the video function. Very grainy textured picture. I believe I over paid for this camera

My first digital camera was a G3 so I have some sentimental attachment here.... I have forgotten about my 5D, MkII and carry this everywhere I go. Love the simplicity, macro, high ISO and creative modes. Would have been nice to have a longer zoom but it still deserves 5 stars!

I usually shoot with professional grade equipment but there are always times when you want to carry a very small camera for shooting casual pictures. I have tried several over the years but the results were never satisfactory, or the camera was slow and not responsive enough. The PowerShot N is the perfect machine! Its very fast, images are excellent sharpness across the zoom spectrum and low light or odd light images are very good.You have to spend a little time getting accustomed to handling the camera as it is quite small and the shutter is on the lens ring. However in a very short time it all makes sense. Overall its very simple and intuitive, and the wifi feature is an extra bonus. You don't have to accept smartphone quality pics if you have this camera (which is smaller than a phone). Its also very well built, quality materials and finish, feels good in your hand. Some will be turned off by the price but if you want a really high quality very small camera that can shoot high quality images, this is it!
