Love it. I have owned all three versions since came. The camera fits my situation. Low light capability with portability. And now being able to transfer directly to my iPhone or iPad . Super super. As far as the CANOPY PROTECTION. HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT. It was come to my California address but suspect Christmas mailing got things mixed. Could you please email me and advise. Thanks CTS

This is a great little camera with an amazing zoom.
It's a bit bigger than some cameras I was looking at but it's worth it for the extra zoom facility.
I did intend buying another one for my parents but they've nearly doubled in price now!

I like the camera it is solid and sits in your hand nicely. You can't charge it which is irritating as the batteries don't last too long about a month, but I used it quite a lot.The fact that it runs on ordinary AA batteries is good though. Came in good time as well.

- it makes excellent pictures
- people that i send pictures to reply WOW on a very often basis
- it is small
- iti is fast
- it has a lot of capacity for picture adjustments, for example : picture the moon risinf over the see without a tripod (try that with yours)
- it takes good videos

This thing is solid. The threading action on both sides is extremely high quality and tight. Every part and detail is made of metal. I chose this specific adapter from Fotga because it DOESN'T have an additional tripod platform that sticks out of the bottom. For what I use it for, this would just get in the way. If you are planning on using some larger focal length MD zoom lenses and a tripod with this, you may want to consider a different adapter that has that option. The lenses are solid metal with heavy glass so I would be nervous to use the camera's tripod mount threads to hold them together. I use a 50mm and 24mm with a tripod with no problems.

Was also quoted about 10 days for shipping but it arrived in 3. I'm in CA. Don't be afraid to buy this adapter. I'm having a blast using my old manual MD lenses again.

I also have the PowerShot S110 (which I will be selling) and there is a noticeable difference between the two. I am so glad that I bought this one. I highly recommend it to everyone looking for a small camera. Be aware that it has no viewfinder so taking photos outdoors might be a bit tricky if you solely rely on the LCD screen.

With a relative addicted to HSN I've tried so many cameras. This is one of my favorites. The SX160 has a built in image stabilizer that really works well. Sitting or standing I can take clear pictures even at 20x optical zoom. The settings are easy to use and figure out with each button clearly labeled. It's light weight and since it uses AA batteries you can easily take pictures all day without worrying about running out of juice. The flash is the only part that holds back from giving it 5 stars. It works beautifully but the charge time (though only a few seconds) did cause me to miss a few shots I would have liked to have gotten. Overall I'm quite pleased with this camera and will keep using it.

I gave this to my granddaughter for a 17th birthday gift. Since then she has taken several hundred pic. with it over a wide variety of subjects from portrait types to sunset and ocean scenes with, in my opinion, no less than fantastic results. I use a canon rebel my self and I have to say some of her pic's. are better than mine. Of course that could be due to the operator also.Update 9-20-2013;Just had some 16X20 enlargements made from my granddaughter's pics. Incredible! The detail ,clarity and quality is amazing at this size. One, a close up of a tiger at full body side view, you can see the individual hairs are crisp and a fly on it's back is in amazing detail! If it weren't for the annoying shutter lag that all digital non-SLR cameras have I would be buying one for myself. The ability of the camera to adjust for the lighting for beach sunsets is amazing. I could not get better natural looking results with photoshop.

I have owned both the G10 and G11, both of which were stolen. I liked both of them but Canon has made many improvements with the G15, the biggest improvement being its reduced size. I also have owned Canon DSLRs but found that because of their size and bulk I rarely used them. Since my DSLRs were stolen too I have decided to replace them with just one camera...the G15. The lens is faster than the kit lens found on consumer DSLR zooms and the photos and video are fantastic. I know the advantages of the larger sensors of DSLRs but I have always adopted the philosophy that the "best" is not always necessary and that "good enough" is most times more than adequate (especially if one views and shows most of their photos via electronic media). This is especially true if one is not printing huge prints, shooting sports or wildlife, or shooting in very low light. But small sensor cameras have gotten so good that they are more than "good enough" for 95% of my shooting needs. Everyone knows the saying that the best camera is the one you have with you and, excluding cell phone cameras, cameras like the Canon G15 are very easily carried and fun to use. When they make a smart phone that can do everything the G15 can do (and is as fun to use) I'll get one!

I'm not even an amateur photographer, but I appreciate a picture that's better than something that I can take from my phone or from a traditional point an shoot. There's a lot of great features which are included in most point and shoot cameras, but it also affords you the ability to make your own pre-programmable settings, or just override everything and operate everything manually. The low-light settings that let you bypass a flash are some of my favorite features. The crisp pictures really let you capture a scene/moment as you're actually experiencing it, as opposed to having a bright flash light highlight anything and everything within the scope of the lenses. It's definitely larger than a traditional point and shoot camera, and is more suitable to a coat pocket than a pant pocket (very bulgy if it fits at all). Although it doesn't have the range of functionality or capabilities of an SLR camera, it's highly functional and is significantly more compact and user friendly to the novice. All around, a great camera.

I bought the Canon SX160 IS to replace my 7-yr old Canon Powershot A540, which still does a decent job. I read a lot of reviews for point-and-shoot cameras and narrowed my choices to Canon SX260, a Sony, or a Nikon. Checked them all out at the local Best Buy and discarded the Nikon and Sony because they were just too small for my hands. Then I reread the specs and reviews for the SX160 vs. SX260 and decided on the SX160, which really is an upgraded version of my A540. I like that it uses AA batteries because I travel to some areas where electricity for recharging unique batteries can be an issue. I also like that I can still use my old printed manual; as the camera functions are essentially the same. I also the fact that the camera lacks a lot of extras.I bought my camera at Best Buy -- I'm leaving tomorrow on a trip -- and they did match Amazon's price.I've taken a few pictures and tried the movie function. Definitely pleased with results. The upgrade was worthwhile. The zoom is great -- got some super pictures of birds at our feeder and closeup pics of my horse from across the paddock.I'm disappointed in the included software -- it seems that there really is not much on the CD, so when you install the software it downloads everything which is annoying.The plastic housing and plastic tripod mount seem a downgrade from the older camera, but the new one is lighter weight and they changed the shape so it's easier to hold. And high-impact plastic can take a lot of punishment.

This is a good basic camera though I feel there are more out there now that have greater pixels and thus better pictures. We have had for a long time now and we are not easy on things. Works great - we now use it as a back up camera and took it recently to a trip to Alaska. Takes great flash pictures.

This camera worked extremely well for three years or so, upon which I then started having some lighting problems while taking indoor shots. Otherwise, I LOVE this camera, and will keep it around for the high quality, amazing outdoor pictures it takes. It's unbeatable for the beautiful high-zoom quality pictures it is capable of taking. I've replaced it with another Canon digital camera, but will keep using it as an excellent backup camera.

my backup camera for when i don't feel like carrying my SLR. performs alright with some ability to customize to get the perfect shot. picture quality is good. build quality very good. i'd buy again simply because i don't know what else is out there that provides the ability and makes it easy to control the camera functions in a compact body.

I am not a new comer to the Canon family so when I wanted a small light weight camera I looked to Canon and found the Powershot SX160. I have a Powershot Pro-1 and I have had great pictures from it but I wanted a camera with a higher resolution and a more or less point and shoot format. The SX 160 will be my 6th Canon camera in the last 10 years and I can't say enough about the construction and ease of use of the cameras. I like the improved stableization feature of the camera as well as the 16X optical zoom. I look forward to many years of satisfactory picture taking with this camera. Over the past 10 years I have bought Canon printers, scanners, and of course Digital cameras and I can't say enough good things about Canon and their products and their professional attitude in supporting their products. Keep up the good work Canon.

For a point and shoot, it's easy to use. The camera is pretty user-friendly. But, it EATS batteries. We have to replace them every time we use it. It's sort of ridiculous. I forgot about the batteries when I bought this camera. We never use it anymore because its not reliably going to make it through an event. Definitely consider a camera that can be charged and recharged with its own power source.

I take this with me everywhere. It is easy to use and the best part is it uses AA batteries. I use rechargeable AA batteries in this camera. That was the primary reason for purchasing this camera over all the others. The other cameras used a specific battery type and shape to power them. This camera uses readily available AA penlight batteries. It has performed well for me. You can adjust the resolution from 8MP to lesss than 1MP. Shutter speed, aperature, exposure values, smoothness are all adjustable. It will also take movies. I am very pleased with the camera and have no regrets.

The use of regular AA batteries is also a great advantage, I could not gave it a 5 star rating due to the slow flash and the fact it didn't came with at least a cheap SDHC card which most of today's cameras come with .... I still recommend it as a great purchase.

I had this camera before but it did not survive a fall on to a marble floor. It took excellent photos. It uses AA batteries which I find more user friendly than those that have to be recharged on a regular basis. I only wish there was a camera with this that also featured the alternate viewer to the screen which is always hard to see in the sun.

The Canon G15 takes great pictures. However, there were a few minor negatives I've discovered. I was disappointed to find out after its purchase that it neither has a "bulb" mode nor does the package come with a USB transfer cable. The USB transfer cable is necessary to upgrade the firmware (no update available at this time), required to install the software via the provided CD's installation application, and eliminates having to remove the SD card from the camera to transfer your photos. Lastly, the initiation of movie recording is different from other manufacturers' actions. The G15 has a "dedicated movie button", which is not unusual; what is strange is that the movie button is the only way you can begin recording your video. The camera has a movie scene mode on the mode dial; however, when the movie scene mode is selected, pressing the shutter button takes a still photo instead of initiating video recording. The manual makes it seem like this is a feature, but this shutter button behavior seems counterintuitive.

I've long been a fan of my trusty Canon G12. Since it hasn't been upgraded in quite some time, I thought it was the end of the line for the series. When the G15 was announced, I immediately wanted one. Having had it for a couple of days now, I'm very happy with it. Out of the box, the biggest difference I noticed was that the G15 no longer has an articulated swivel screen. To a lot of people, this will be a huge disappointment. There is a positive to this though. Without it, the camera is thinner and lighter now. The screen is also larger and higher resolution. (3", 920K). The lens has the same focal length as the G12, but the new G15 lens has a wider aperture. f1.8 vs f2.8. My results show a nice improvement in low light situations. Canon has also improved the auto-focus speed. Megapixels have been increased from 10mp to 12mp. The G15 has a 1/1.7" CMOS sensor, which is larger than most compact style cameras. The DSLR style controls and menus are easy to navigate and understand. On my initial battery charge, I managed just over 300 shots, which I consider good. Now for the most important thing. Image quality. I took several hundred pictures in various conditions. Image quality was excellent under all circumstances. I shot in JPEG mode, using ISO 80-800. Images shot outdoors in good lighting conditions were almost DSLR quality. Images shot indoors were excellent too. Image noise up to ISO 400 was barely noticeable. At ISO 800, noise become more noticeable, but results were still much better than you'd expect from a compact camera. I only shot a minimal amount of video since I have little interest in using it, but what I did shoot does look good. The G15 can do 1080P at 24fps. All in all, the Canon G15 is just a great camera.Pros:Excellent image quality.Fast 5x 28-140mm lens.RAW image capture.DSLR style manual controls.Good battery life.Fairly thin and lightweight.3", 920K screen.Optical viewfinder.Cons:No articulated screen.Ergonomics might be awkward to some.

This is Canon's current top of the line compact digital camera for non-professionals. Great product with all the features you will need without the bulk of DSLR rigs. Solidly built body metal construction that has some heft to it.I'm gearing up for a trip to Europe next spring and this is the still camera I chose to substitute for a Canon A1000. I also have a Canon Vixia M41 video camera. I am considering taking only the G-15 to Europe because the video quality is almost as good as the HD M41. In the end, I'll probably take both.I use an optical viewfinder most of the time. My only complaint is when the lens is fully extended about 10% of the lower left corner of the viewfinder is blocked. Since I seldom use the fully extended lens it's not a big deal.Battery life is very good.I guess the G-15 is what you would call a crossover. It's not a full featured professional rig but it's a lot, lot more camera than your typical point and shoot.

This is the perfect camera for anyone that has only used the point and shoot models with low zoom. Instead of jumping into a fancy $500 model, try this one first. It has lots of shooting options, most of which I don't use but they are easy to change from one to another. Camera is easy to operate and you can hold it steady enough at full 16x zoom to take a clear pic with a little practice.Cons: Moving subjects are hard to photograph without blurriness.I've not been able to take good photos in low light when outside.The zoom uses a lot of power and will drain your batteries quickly. Camera should have been designed to use 4 AA batteries.Over all, I am VERY happy with this camera and highly recommend it!

Have used the Canon S120 for 4 weeks. Have taken very clear, high quality indoor and outdoor shots using the Auto setting. Very compact and transportable. Fits in trouser and shirt pockets. Battery life was acceptable when used for stills only. Appeared to run down when used for slow motion video. Quick start up and fast shot to shot turnaround. Vast improvement over s95.

Canon digital cameras are a bit silplistic. I got one of these for the live feature. That allows you to see what manual controls are doing when you adjust the color and brightness. It should be helpful for being a bit creative which I like to do. It only uses two AA batteries so it a bit thinner than some cameras with long lenses. It is a bit heavier than a regular point and shoot. All in all a nice camera.

If you want an easy-to-use, better quality camera, this is the one. It will take great pictures quickly and clearly, as well as HD video. I like the fact that it takes AA batteries. I never have to worry about having the battery charged up and can purchase extra batteries almost anywhere. It's best to use Energizer Advanced or Ultimate lithium AA batteries too. They will last a long time, unlike regular alkaline cells.

I love the quality and speed of DSLR cameras, but grew weary of lugging around all the equipment and wanting to buy new lenses and accessories all the time. So I decided to try this camera and see how things went. Well, I've very happy. No it's not the same exact quality but still very good! And if you know what you are doing and can set aperture you can still get pretty great portrait shots with the blurred background. Also I can shoot in RAW with this camera and squeak out all the details necessary for great landscapes. One thing I'm particularly impressed with is the auto settings. The camera can analyze a scene and decide the best settings pretty quickly. Even when I took a picture of my toddler, the camera recognized the young child and did a burst of 3 images without me telling it to. I wish I set it to RAW in auto mode. Another minor thing that I love about it is the control dial on the back. Most cameras (even DSLR) have buttons and you have to press several times for control, but this dial is wonderful and makes getting around in the menu and settings and focal points a dream. To summarize, I am once again inspired to do photography! Thanks to this camera.

I've had this camera now for a month or so and it's had quite a bit of use but I have to say I'm rather disappointed with it and I can only assume that those users who have given it 4 or 5 stars do not intend to use it for anything much more than taking snap shots of the kids. To be honest I think I'm probably being a bit generous giving it 3 stars.

Firstly, Canon make a lot of the fact that it's got a good video function. This may well be true but if I'd wanted a video camera I'd have bought one. I want a still camera which can take the occasional video, not the other way round.

The camera supposedly allows you to take photo's in very poor light by using very high ISO values (up to obout 3200) and I suppose you might just about get a print the size of a postage stamp if you used it. If reasonable sized prints are all that is required ISO 800 is just about usable but the picture on my PC monitor becomes rather noisy at these speeds even after spending quite a time working with Photoshop on the image. ISO 200-400 is just about as high as I want to go and even 400 is a bit dodgy.

My last camera was a Fuji Finepix S7000 which eventually succumbed after many years of use. Like all digital cameras it had a viewing screen but, in bright light, this became almost unusable so I used the viewfinder instead. The image was absolutely first class and was far easier to use that the viewingf screen. On this camera the viewfinder is absolutely dreadful and is almost unusable. The swiveling viewing screen compensates for this to some extent but it is still very difficult to use in bright conditons.

The image stabilisation works very well and the zoom, or at least the optical zoom is excellent, but if you use the digital zoom the picture quality rapidly tails off.

I was amazed to find that a £400 camera didn't have a cable release screw. Instead they provide a radio controlled gadget which releases the shutter. I had a lot of trouble working out how this device worked as the manual-all 304 pages of it-which I had to print out myself -wasn't any too clear. I eventually tried contacting Canon, both by email and by phone. It was painfully clear THAT NONE OF THE PEOPLE I SPOKE TO HAD THE SLIGHTEST KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE CAMERA. I eventually solved the problem myself and none of their suggestions came even close to solving the question I'd asked.

Anyway, I eventually got the wireless control working but the sensor is on the front of the camera. This may well be OK if all you want it to take photo's of yourself, but I like photographing wildlife and just about the last thing you want to do is move your hand around when you're doing that. They could easily have put a sensor on the back as well but Canon don't seem to have given much thought to what a customer might want to use a complex camera like this for.

There are all sorts of picture taking programs on the camera but I really can't see much difference between most of them as far as picture taking is concerned. One thing I'm really annoyed about is the fact that there is no "Bulb" setting, i'e. I can't hold the shutter open for a long time exposure, I have to rely on the automatic shutter. On reflection though, even if they had such a setting, it would be very difficult to use without a cable release.

Another problem is the lack of a filter thread on the lens. It is possible to buy an attachment to fit on the front of the lens (for about £20) but not from Canon. The camera comes equipped with a rather flimsy lens hood, this fits in the same place as the filter adaptor so you can't use a filter and the lens hood. One problem I've found with the lens hood is the fact that when it's being used it's very easy to twist and it's not always easy to soo the focussing screen well enough to pick this up. The result, if you're not very careful, is the corners chopped off your photos when using wide angle. Incidentally, I ordered a filter holder from a company calle digitalmediastore ages ago and I'm still waiting. I got one fron an Ebay seller in a couple of days.

All in all, this camera is very expensive for what you get from it. It's rather complicated and has a lot of different knobs and dials but the handbook is on a CD, meaning that you either have to take a lap-top everywhere with you ar print it out as I did. As I said above, the resulting booklet runs to 304 pages and even printing on both sides of the paper it's about an inch thick and used the best part of a cartridge of ink. I have been taking photographs now for something like 55 years, and Canon have always been up there amongst the best camera makers. If this camera is anything to go by, they seem to have been taken over by the cost cutting brigade who tend to see customers as little more than money making machines.

Nice lens cap, handy, and the cord helps it to stick with the the camera. Eventually, the cap broke out though

This is a great camera and very easy to use. The computer program comes with and makes loading the pictures on my computer very easy.
