Have not had this camera very long but know that I will like it. Love the zoom lens. Photos with the tele-converter are clearer than with a digital zoom, so the actual length of lens available is more than 560mm. Clips in movie mode have been clear and of good quality (30fps). It more difficult to set the 'scene' options than on other canon cameras, but think this will get easier with practice. At the widest angle of the lens (28mm) the lens hood gets into the picture so it has to be removed before shooting.

Spent ages deciding wether I should go for this one or the panasonic. My brothers got the panasonic I got this and I made the right choice. You can just take simple snaps with it on auto, however if you get the time a want to be a little more artsy, then there's plenty of settings to create a myriad of effects! Buy it!

Love the camera...hate the battery life. I've yet to use and play with all of it's modes and features. But on automatic mode, my pictures are crisp and clear and the colors are vivid! My pictures really look good. I am definitely glad I bought it...If only...the battery life didn't suck! If you buy it, just remember to carry extra batteries with you and you'll be fine.

I received the A630 for Christmas, and initially I loved the camera. It is very intuitive, takes great photos, and the battery life seems to be fantastic. However, my first experience with the Canon software included left much to be desired. First off, the software suite is huge - over 300Meg for the complete installation. The software itself seems to be very well written and intuitive, but it has some severe limitations. First off, you simply cannot access the memory card in the camera like a computer hard drive, something that every digital camera I've owned has let me do. (Kodak, Nikon, Minolta, heck - even the no-name digital binoculars let me mount as a hard drive). There doesn't seem to be any way to just mount the card as a drive. So, stuck with using the software to extract photos from the camera, I came headlong into another severe limitation - the software does not recognize any hard drives on your PC that are network drives. I have all my digital photos on a server, and I would be satisfied to simply use the software to transfer the photos, but not being able to see any network drives puts another step in the process - copying them to the local hard drive and then using windows file manager to copy to the network drive. Canon support basically told me "the software does not support network drives" without offering any other suggestions. I guess I'll have to fall back to buying a card reader (I have to get a new one that supports SDHD) and transferring photos that way. I'm giving it four stars because the benefits of the camera being so good outweighs the software problems.

This camera is amazing. If you want to have 20X optical zoom and zero cm for macro this should be your camera of choice. I am using digital cameras for 15 years now and had the first Canon "pro90 IS" which was 10X optical zoom and I must say that this one is state of the art at the moment.
Pictures are in high quality and Image Stabilizer works great.
I added UV filter to keep the lens from scratches.
I recommend this camera as additional to your compact camera.

It is a very good camera for the price you pay (I bought it $200 on amazon). I have taken great shots using this SX110 IS and completely satisfied with its options and quality. Relatively small and low weight camera that you can take it here and there easily to take pictures. Image stabilization and 10X optical zoom are also great. I absolutely recommend it!

For an inexpensive point & shoot this camera is a good value. It has sufficient resolution and image size for 8x10 prints. The array of shooting modes covers most situations. Two minor negatives: The menus are sometimes not intuitive and the "custom color" option is very limited.

I bought this camera for my parents as a Christmas gift. I read all the reviews and it sounded like a straight forward point and shoot camera that they would enjoy. My first disappointment was that the cover for the batteries is difficult to open and close and the door itself appears flimsy. Now my father has informed me that the camera only takes three pictures and the batteries are dead! Spend the extra money and buy a better camera. I wish I had!

The image quality is not so great...
My sony ericcson mobile has 2.3 Mega pixel and that quality almost as good as this.even though that is less megapixel.

Not happy with the size/shape.
It cannot be easily carried by putting it in our pocket.

I've had Canons for years. Most recently, the Rebel XT and the PowerShot 880IS. I have loved all of my Canon cameras, but this one is the best ever. The 20x optical zoom is spectacular. In shots I took of Big Sur over Christmas, the rocks on the beach are very visible and bright even at full zoom. The movie button rocks -- it's convenient, and it lets you take still shots while filming video.

I purchased this camera when it was on sale, and so far, it hasn't failed me. It's a great camera! It arrived in perfect condition, has many different settings, and --for those who don't use cameras often-- has an Auto setting. The only thing you'd need to buy after buying it is an SD card and camera case. The SD card that comes with it is really small and only allows one to take a few shots on it before it is full.

I have to say, this camera takes INSANELY good quality pictures! For the price, and size, it really can not be beat! I am a fan of Canon Products, and this camera reassures me that I can keep trusting them when it comes to digital photography!

Simple to use, lasts days and days on the batteries, and uses SD memory cards (which my laptops have readers built in for, making it very convenient). The LCD view screen is great! Big, and beautiful! This machine gets rid of the viewfinder, which rarely ever gets used due to their inaccurate nature, and leaves out other frilly features that would only cause issues or break in the future.

I have had very good experience with my history f owning Canon cameras, and this one is as rugged as it should be. As long as you don't beat up on it, it should give you many years of reliable, quality use!

This has all the basic features and its working perfectly well. I have used it and the picture quality is very good. Considering the cost, its an excellent product.

Only problem, the same that I have read in the reviews while buying the product, is that it takes some times for the flash to load after taking a picture, say about 4 seconds. If you dont think this is a problem for you, this camera is the best.

This camera is not only cheap and easily operatable but also great. The only reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the camera manual makes slight mention about RAW images even though on my camera i have had it come up saying RAW a couple of times on the screen for some of my images. Even though most people say it doesn't have the capabilities for it, Trust me i have had it say it a couple of times but i cannot remember how i got it to do it lol. This camera is great for getting quality photos and all the images are crisp and clean except for occasional noise within the photo, which only shows up by the way if you use the camera with a low battery. This camera however eats regular Alkaline batteries like mad so i would suggest buying a set of rechargable batteries unless you want to spend a fourtune. Even though it has no Veiw finder to look through the display works like a charm just as well. Even though it might be slightly expensive for people on a budget it is a really GREAT camera and it is worth buying. I have had no run ins with bugs or problems with it. The image stabilizer also makes sure that the occurrence of blurs and shake effects are minimal at best. So if you want a good camera BUY THIS ONE!!!!!!

I was looking for a compact point & shoot type camcorder and this was excellent; 10X zoom, stainless steel body, & an impressive power-on/off mode (enough for the guy next to you to stare at the camera while you switch it on).

I was one of those who dumped their tape-based video camcorders because I could not be bothered with keeping tapes, let alone editing them. So even when the introduction of mini DVs, CD-R or DVD-Rs, I still shy away from taking videos. It keeps avi format videos on as SD card, with a 8GB it can take almost an hour of video on standard 640X480 sized video (normal TV standards).

Normal complains I read on the net of this camera was the form factor. I guess it's either you love it or hate it. For me it's easy enough to handle. My hand does not complain about the small camera. I can manage it with one hand easily (you have to be right handed though). All the controls can be accessed using one hand.

A bonus for me is that it can take 7MP stills. A warning though the form factor was optimized for one-hand video recording, not as a digital still camera. You take videos/photos landscape mode while the camera is `vertical'. Seldom have you seen someone tilt the video camcorder to take portrait videos. So portrait still photo mode may be tricky.

I am happy with my find and have started to take videos again with this.

This camera takes great pictures. A friend of mine has the canon powershot
before this one and i fell in love with it. When they came out with this one I decieded to purchase it. The 20x wide angle zoom gets closer than the recent lens i just purchase, the 70-300 for my canon rebel. This is a good camera to have just in case you want to take a small light camera instead of a big camera with a heavy lens on it, will still take the great close-up pictures.

I bought this camera from Amazon in October 2008, which came with a free case that made the whole package very good value. I am no photo professional, so this camera is perfect for a layperson like myself who just wants to point and shoot! Delivers nice pictures; actually 10 megapixel gives lots of unwanted (!) details on your skin, too.. I am glad I didn't go for the 12 megapixel option, which would be too much for the leisure user (each photo becomes too large in size too, using up your SD card space quickly). Overall, this is an impressively small camera that does everthing it's supposed to do quite nicely. The functionalities are straightforward and easy to use as well.

I bought this camera 6 months ago, and so far it's been a piece of junk! I've had to send it back to Canon for repairs three times. The first time I used it the lens stuck open and wouldn't retract. The second time they had to replace the whole optical assembly and the third time the Image Stabilizer didn't work. What a drag!

I just got this camera and i did like 50 pictures and am happy.
the zoom works nice.
i had the panasonic TZ5 and i like this one more. the colorful pictures and sharp nice pics.

the only thing of this camera it feels cheap . the battery door is very hard to open and close. to change the setting 2. its really made cheap.
its no very fast like other cameras. but it does a nice job.

I bought this camera for the amazing zoom it promised and the fact that it was small enough to fit in your pocket. I was a little unsure of use of AA batteries instead of a lithium ion battery. And that was the ultimate downfall of this camera. I went through the two AA batteries each day of use. This can get quite pricey. I loved the zoom and the large screen, but I did find a few dead pixels on the left part of the screen. I could have lived with the dead pixels, but again the battery life was deal breaker. Canon definitely got this wrong with this camera

As the saying goes "The greatest camera is the camera you have with you at all times" so earlier this year I bought a Canon IXUS camera to carry with me. However, when her indoors saw it she commandeered it for her handbag. So I decided to buy the A640 while Canon was running their money back offer of £60.00. (Has anyone else noticed how camera and lens prices suddenly increase during a promotion and then quickly reduces again once the promotion comes to an end?)

This is a much larger camera than the IXUS and I sometimes have difficulty putting it into and getting it out of my coat pocket. However, where the A640 wins over the IXUS is by giving me complete manual control whenever I want it. It's surprising just how big an improvement you can see in your images when you use manual mode instead of the full AUTO or Program modes. Try experimenting and you'll soon see what I'm getting at.

A great facility, although being of low resolution, is the rear flip out LCD screen just like those found on good quality camcorders. This allows me to compose a low level shot and use my thumb to trigger the shutter or an overhead shot at arms length which certainly can help to reduce both backache and neck pain and is only a good thing when you reach my age LOL.

The main circular control dial on the top surface is where you select the shooting mode you want, be it Manual, Aperture or Shutter Priority, Program, Full Auto or one of the many Scenic modes available. Also on this dial is the Movie mode should you wish to video something. You access the main menu by pressing the Function button found at the rear panel and here you can set the ISO speed, White Balance, Drive mode (single/multi shot, shutter timer of 2 or 10 seconds delay. My colors set up (note the American spelling), Flash output, Metering mode and Image size & Quality is also found in these menus.

The one thing that is missing from this camera is a Hot-shoe so that an external flashgun could be used on it but I suppose the built-in flash will do a good enough job for most instances.

All in all an excellent camera which produces excellent images.

This Canon A1000IS if just want I needed and looked for. It's easy to use for taking shots for a book I'm writing in dark and light situations. I find it's difficult to work the battery hold and sometimes can't open the cover easily. Otherwise, no complaints. I recommend this cameera for many kinds of uses.

First of all, I don't understand the listed price of $549.99. When I bought this camera over a year ago, I got it for about 300... I think there is an error because the newer model is selling for about half the price.

In any event, I want to declare that this is the BEST camera I had ever owned. I used this camera for more than one year, taking thousands and thousands of pictures. I studied abroad in Argentina for the year and took pictures of absolutely everything. This camera never failed me. Never. It took brillant, rich, great color pictures. I was never interested in the video component, but it served my purposes the few times I used it.
The BEST feature is the pop out LCD screen. Not only does it let you take pictures up high or down low (like at a concert, looking out over everyone) but you can turn the screen around and take amazing self portraits. Instead of asking strangers to take pictures of my friends and me, we'd just turn the screen around and I got some of my best pictures this way. The zoom is good, the pic quality is five stars, the menu and settings are great. . . No complains whatsoever.
I do want to talk about it's death so you that you are aware of it. This camera has a huge lense and is quite heavy. After about 14 months, the lens got stuck open. I assume it's a mechanical failure in the mechanism that opens and closes the lens. I've sent it in for service and await Canon's answer. I deeply miss it and although at the end it malfunctioned, I've never had such a good camera. I hope Canon will have good news for me. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I doubt it's the case. My friend bought the newest model and it has even more cool feature, like zooming in and focusing on a single subject and then only applying color to it and leaving the background graytone. Well, that's a review for another day. If you want a very capable, but heavy camera, this one will not disspoint you. But you should be able to find it between 200 and 300.

This is my second Cannon digital camera, I bought the previous
one(Power shot A70)in the year 2000. When compared to that camera this is not that great. The Cannon Power shot A590 consumes batteries a lot. Also I could not set the date and time on this camera, it would not stay.
The only good thing about this camera is its price.

We finally replaced our old digital camera (bought in 2002). It was falling apart, but still worked.

This camera is great. The picture is great. My old camera took forever to get the shot once the button was pushed. This one is quick, which is important because I am taking pictures of my kids with it.

It has a lot of features that I am still trying to figure out. I mostly use the auto feature, and pictures turn out great. But there are many other setups you can use. You can even turn it so that you can manually set up the picture. I don't know anything about manually setting up the picture, but it's a fun feature I'd like to learn.

For the price, it is a great camera.

I just bought this camera to replace an older Sony camera (which I could never get to take good pics without editing them). Well with the Canon, no editing necessary.. Pics come out perfect every time! Nice true color (unlike Sonys), not too dark, and very sharp, crisp images. I was totally amazed that I could even see the bright LCD screen outside in the sun!! We have had many digital cameras, and this is by far the BEST we've ever owned! It is the most feature-packed camera I've ever seen. There are so many pre-defined modes I can't remember them all, but some good ones were Portrait, Kids & Pets, Nighttime, Landscape, Indoors, Snow, and even Fireworks! The face detection feature is amazing, and I also like that it shoots 16:9 widescreen pics. The menus are easy to use.. I started using this right out of the box, without even having read the manual. The 10x optical zoom is fantastic, and I just discovered the digital zoom goes all the way out to 40x! The zoom is AMAZING for such a small camera! This is not as small as other pocket-size cams, but it still fits nicely in my purse, which is important. Dimensions are about 5x3x3, making it pretty hard to find a nice case for it right now, since most other cameras these days are only about 3 in. wide and an inch thick (and I am not fond of the style of case Canon makes for this). But hopefully third parties will starting making cases for this camera. The only other thing I could wish for this camera is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack, so we don't have to buy AA's or use the short-lived Nickel Metal-Hydride (NiMh) batteries that end up developing the memory effect. Other than that, I can't say enough about this wonderful camera. You name it, the Canon PowerShot SX100IS does it!!!

This camera takes excellent pictures but there is one caution about using it. Do not power on the camera when anything can stop the lens from extending. This will strip the gears and you might start getting the a message that the camera must be restarted. It eventually can cause the camera to not operate at all. Best advice is to leave the camera in the 'review' mode. That way if it is in your pocket or purse and does get accidently turned on, the lens will not try to extend.

Only complaint, less than 30 days after I purchased it, I had to replace the date battery.
Not an easy task in Buenos Aires.

This camera does alot. Movies, close-ups (macros), 4x optical zoom, optical image stabilizer. I am still learning all of the features of this product. The easy-to-use dial control allows you to choose what kind of picture you want to take (night, night portrait, day portrait, landscape, fireworks, and others). The price was great for a name brand digital camera. I would recommend this product.
