Великолепно

First of all, I actually had a hard time choosing a color. It is so nice owning a good-looking product. This is my first digital camera ever and I've had it since January. Unfortunately, shortly after I got it, I found out I had cancer. It's all gone now and I've actually been using it since last month.

Anyway, my daughter has been giving me some coaching tips but I've found this camera to be easy to use and it takes great pictures and video. I got this as a package deal with the cables, case, rechargeable batteries, a tiny tripod (which is worthless) and a large SD card. I've had a lot of people say I got a great deal, so keep searching on Amazon until you find it. I found the package deal totally by accident when I lost my data and had to "re-search" cameras. It was buried on page 2 or 3 of the search results.

It's great having rechargeable batteries (4 in all) but they do seem to go through a charge fast.

All of my pics have come out nice, even the ones I took in the bowling alley. The camera has a nice heft and fits into my hand well. I can't wait to learn how to use even more of the features.

I've used this camera for about 4 months now. The only complaints I have are #1. that the ISO settings really affect the image quality. I have no idea why they elected to put the 800 and higher ISOs in there because they produce really grainy pictures. #2. The Flash takes a really long time to charge. If you thought you could use the flash to take a series of indoor party photos for instance, you will get the first shot off and then by the time the recharge completes (10+ seconds on new batteries) the event is usually over. #3. The flash is quite limited in range. #4. The camera seems to have a problem with light and dark areas in the same frame. For instance, if you like the sky and cloud texture and also want good detail of the mountains in the frame, chances are good that one or the other will be either over or under exposed.

This is only my second digital camera. The first was so confusing (very small icons and an over 60 attitude about learning new things didn't help). I ended up giving it to my son. I decided to try once more and I'm glad I chose the Canon PowerShot A470. The pictures are clear and the display is big enough to see well. After two months I'm still using the same batteries. I was able to transfer prints to my computer for printing with no trouble. The only concern I have is that I may at some time want a more powerful zoom. Don't forget to purchase a memory card when you buy the camera. For a first camera this one's great. I would highly recommend this for kids and tech-resistant seniors.

I was so excited to finally replace my old Sony Cybershot, which I had for over 5 years. I decided on the Canon PowerShot A590IS because of all the wonderful reviews - why they were given, I have no idea. While the pictures this camera takes are amazing, the battery life is absolutely pathetic! The first set of AA's that came with the camera were a generic brand, so I attributed having to replace them so soon (only after a week and taking maybe 20 photos) to that. However, no matter what brand I use, the life of them in this camera is horrendous - literally not lasting more than a week - and I'm not taking hundreds and hundreds of photos here. I will most definately be going back to a rechargable battery setup like my Cybershot. If you want to go on vacation and have carry 12 AA's with you to get through the week, this camera is for you. If not, look elsewhere.

In this video, I give a brief tour of the Canon SX110's operation, show the range of the zoom, and include a few photos to demonstrate some of the features. Note that you cannot judge the actual photographic quality since the compression and natural degradation of video on the web may impact it, although you should be able to see the difference between optical and digital zoom. To help consumers judge the quality, I will also post a few images on the main product page. This camera has so many features and settings that it take owners a while to learn them; however, if you want to do more than take standard snapshots, you will appreciate the camera's versatility.

Note: This silver Canon SX100IS is the same as the black model, just with a different housing.

I bought this camera from Amazon a year ago to take along on my weekend hikes in the mountains. It takes great photos, although after a year I often get "lens error" messages and the camera freezes. In its defense it's taken several thousand photos of my travels.

I can take good micro shots of bugs and plants, take short (under three minute) videos and other creative features. I bought rechargable batteries for this to cut down on regular batteries.

But why the price hike to almost $300? I bought this same camera here for $99.95! What's up with this, Amazon? This is a year-old camera, the price should be dropping, not rising!

My use of this camera to date has been somewhatly limited. But so far the camera has been exceptional. All of its many features work and work well. I have read a lot of reports about the cameera being big, bulky and heavy. Well it is all of those, but I find these things to be an attribute. It makes it feel adequate rather than flimsy and cheap.One thing I am not too happy with is battery life. So far I have used only the AA alkaline batteries, which are used up rather soon. In the past I have used NiMH batteries and found them to die from not being used instead of wearing out from use. Which is worse. Your total number of shots is still limited. This camera has an abundance of features and uses power accordingly. The camera has features that are not well covered in the user manual. Trial and error is the answer. All in all this is a very good camera, and I am very happty with it.

I've had this camera a few months now and have been able to run it thru it's paces. This camera has performed quite well in a variety of situations. Landscapes are probably it's strongest suite with vibrant colors and sharp images. Even when zooming in at 20x the images still look respectable. It's only weakness would be the builtin flash It's somewhat weak past a few feet and harsh up close. I reccomend an external flash. The camera is full of features that I've yet to master, in fact it can be too complicated at times to use. Also, the viewfinder is digital, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. An optical viewfinder would of made this camera perfect. If you want the versatility and quality of a DSLR and don't have the need for multiple lenses, save yourself alot of money and get this camera. So far, I love it.

My dad has resisted updating his digital camera for several years. I finally convinced him this year and this was the camera I chose for his Christmas gift.

It is simply outstanding. The camera is full featured and offers all of the controls that the DSLR's have when it comes to aperture and shutter speed settings and manual controls. But the real test is how it shoots in full auto, because that is when the camera has to make critical decisions.

This camera succeeds wildly. We were at a Christmas party and I had my Canon 30D DSLR in full manual mode with a 550EXII flash mounted and my dad had his new Canon Powershot SX10IS. When we got home we compared pictures and he fared very well against my shots.

The flash is surprisingly strong, but doesn't wash out close shots. It can light up a big room from far away. The focus is good and fast. The colors are OUTSTANDING and the 20x zoom and 28mm wide angle are features that offer the best of both worlds when it comes to handling a variety of situations.

On top of that, the Image Stabilization works very well and makes the 20x zoom usable.

Plus, my dad has now retired his old video camera as well since you can get image stabilized, 20x zoomable, 640x480 stereo video at the press of a button. This camera is really the best featured and easy to use camera out there and at a price that is unbeatable. Add an inexpensive 8Gb memory card and a set of four rechargable AA batteries and you are in at under $400 for everything you need.

I highly recommend this camera as the best ALL-AROUND camera you can buy right now when you consider price, features, size and image quality.

I purchased this camera after my previous Canon Powershot digital camera was stolen at a construction site. This is my 3rd Powershot and to say that Canon has a winner in this series would be an understatement. The current model is a powerhouse. 9 MB file size, a 10x optical zoom giving you the same view as a 550 mm 35 mm camera lens lets you really pull images in from almost any vantage point. The image stabilizer is also a great tool as there is no visible blurring due to hand shake. The only issue for a really great camera is battery life. The first set of batteries, the ones that came with the camera ran out fairly quickly, granted my 10 year son was shooting movies and then reviewing them over and over again, but still. This is the first digital camera that allows for the use of AA batteries off the shelf which in theory shouldbe convenient except that they really don't last very long compared to the rechargable batteries that usually come with these cameras. As a result a sprang for rechargable batteries and a charger and then batteries seem to last a bit longer. Only time will tell so we will have to wait and see.

Overall I am very happy with this camera and I think that you will be as well. Also the black colering is very cool.

I got this camera after having a poor experience with another brand (casio) small point and shoot camera. The Canon A590IS provides excellent quality photos and video both indoors and out. I used it for an entire week's vacation in a a variety of settings with an 8GB SDHC card with no problems. The image stabilization is a huge plus for this camera, because the small point and shoots without it often result in blurry pictures, even in good lighting. This canon is easy to grip and take a nice steady picture. The result is you can usually get a good shot even with the flash off in normal room lighting, because the stablization keeps the shot steady during a slower shutter speed.

I used all the various automatic modes like indoor, kids, pets, landscape etc with good results, but auto and P mode seem to do the job in most situations. The video results are very good, even though they are only 20 fps, but this only effects fast action like a sports event, and even then is not really noticeable. I made a video of a flag football game that came out fine. I tested all the modes up to 8 megapixel. The 3M fine mode is my default for normal situations.

The only downside of this camera is the battery life. For some reason, the camera shows the AA batteries are low even though they are only slightly discharged. As a result you have to often change the batteries, even though the batteries you take out still measure well into the green charged range on a battery tester. So do not throw away batteries after you take them out of this canon. They are still fine for any other device. Canon needs to fix this problem.

Otherwise great camera at a great price for both photo and video. Get an 8GB SDHC card and a bunch of AA batteries and you will be good to go.

I've used this camera for ~2.5 years over much of the US and Asia and taken over 5,000 photo's. I and have been very pleased with its performance.

I am a serious amateur photographer and story teller who relies on images for Power Points, newsletters, and photos to display. This camera has been wonderful and reliable. I average about 500 pictures with one set of four AA batteries. The tilt viewing screen makes this camera perfect for 'discrete' photo's in markets, for casual portraits where people play and work, of architecture, and even of self portraits. In markets and on streets I often find myself tilting the screen and shooting from waist level. I also sometimes find that I can hold it over my head, and the heads of others, see and capture the image again by the tilt of the screen.

This camera is a little larger than I would prefer. It does not easily go into a jacket pocket. I find that I most often carry it in a 'messenger bag' or on my belt under a jacket, sometimes in a jacket pocket. But to be so feature rich, it is worth this extra bulk to me. If I did not want the option of manual controls and the other features I would go for a smaller camera and enjoy the smaller size.

When this camera is replaced I will look for another Canon, I will buy it from Amazon, look for a swivel screen, AA battery powered, and the newer stabilization technology.

I bought this for my oldest son on his 11th birthday. Within a week he had figured out so many features and probably knows more about his camera than most adults do. In the past six months, he has taken wonderful pictures, tons of movies (which sucks the batteries dry) and has had a great time. This little camera has held up despite his younger siblings getting hold of it several times.

I researched a lot before buying this camera and I don't regret it a bit. AND, I am glad I bought it when I did! I paid $89 and it's now selling for $149.

Great idea - poorly designed and implemented!

OK it's only a sock - so why is it so difficult to get right?

1. Karabiner clip - totally stupid, remove it or you'll scratch your precious Ixus.

2. Lanyard also has a metal clip and although it didn't have any sharp edges I removed it in order to be able to attach the cord to the sock once I'd binned the cheap and nasty Karabiner.

3. More like a chunky woolly pullover than a sock - and so far as my Ixus goes a baggy one at that! Has a tendency to slip out.

I really wanted this to work because a sock is exactly what a pocket point and shoot needs to protect it whilst keeping it ready to use. Unfortunately this one isn't right at all!

I have used this camera for one month and will comment on my observations. First the zoom lens is superb. It works smoothly and is easy to operate. I use it all the time. The pictures at full optical zoom (10X) were crisp, detailed and clear. The color was bright, warm and true to life. I found myself saying, "Wow, wow, wow. I can't believe how great these pictures look ". They are superior to the ones I take with my Canon S2 1S. One brght and sunny day, I took some pictures of a near by river and pedestrians who were at least 100 yards away. I used the digital zoom to enlarge the pictures 40X. They were surprisingly good..again couldn't believe it. However, on a gray day this was not the case. The pictures were pixilated and of poor quality. However, the 10X optical zoom pictures were always excellent. The superb image stabilization system contributed greatly to the quality of the zoomed pictures. My Canon Powershot SD 1000 is a wonderful pocket sized camera but at times frustrated me because it only has 3X optical zoom without image stabilization.

The macro setting of the SX100 IS is superb and easy to use. The picture quality caused more "Wow, I can't believe how good they are." Some of my most exciting pictures have been in the macro setting.

The camera is small enough to fit in my pants pocket albeit with a noticable bulge. I have been carrying it this way for the past month even though I have a carrying case for it. I wanted a camera with a decent zoom lens to carry with me on most days. It works but it is definitely not as portable as the Canon Powershsot SD 1000. I don't mind the increased size because I love the zoom. Thus far the unprotected LCD screen has not been damaged in my pocket. The screen itself is good size, easily cleaned and scratch resistant. The screen in no way reproduces the fine quality of the pictures as seen on a computer or when printed out. The screen has fewer pixels than the SD 1000 screen. This is not a problem for me. There is no viewfinder but the screen works reasonably well for me in bright sunlight.

The camera has a solid feel which I like and is relatively easy to hold steady for zoom shots. The battery and SD card cover at first felt a bit fragile but on repeated use it seems to work just fine.

The movie function is average at best. The low resolution movie setting takes poor quality movie that are unacceptable to me. At the high resolution setting the movies are o.k. You can zoom during a movie but it goes out of focus. If I want a close up movie shot, I zoom first in the camera mode and then switch to the movie mode and shot the movie. The results are o.k. My Canon S2 1S zooms while shooting a movie which
I like.

I have not used the manual controls so I can't comment on them. I have use the programed shooting modes for evening and inside shooting etc and they work just fine.

This is a great camera albeit not perfect. For me, the picture quality is it's greatest asset. It is a pleasure to give it a 5 star rating.

I have used the lower priced PowerShot Cameras for the last few years. Out of all of them, this was my least favorite in terms of capturing the quality of pictures I desired.

1) The image stabilization features are not explained clearly. No matter what setting I have it on, I don't see to get the stabilization I expect. Granted, this may be my fault but a better explanation in the manual would be appreciated.

2) The lens converter that I have (that was recommended) is not listed in the camera software - choice-wise. That to me is a bit confusing. LA-DC58G was the converter bought.

3) The image quality is not exceptional. At the highest quality setting, I usually end up boosting the quality through a separate image editing program.

I really love Canon cameras. I just thought that this camera would elevate my picture taking experience a bit further. I think it might be time now to explore the "G" series or higher end PowerShots in general.

I have been watching this camera for a few weeks and finally decided to purchase it. I'm not a power user yet, although I plan on getting to learn on how to use all of its functionality. I have only had it for a few days but so far I'm very impressed.

Pros:
1. Fantastic zoom
2. Great image stabilization
3. Auto mode works well
4. Lots of scene features (fireworks, sunset, etc.)
5. Very impressed with the stereo sound when recording video.
6. I like that you can mute the camera..good for taking pictures of birds or other animals that may get scared by the camera's "natural" noises.

Cons:
1. Although the video recording lets you zoom in and out, I found that once I uploaded it to my PC the outcome of the video was very "jumpy". I will try again with less zooming.
2. The instructions, although clear, go on forever. Thus I purchased the "Canon Powershot SX10 IS CheatSheet" from Amazon. I'm happily waiting for it to help me start using the cool features faster than if I read through the entire manual.

I did do my research via Cameralabs.com where they have live video showing you how the camera works.

Overall...5 stars!! I'm excited to take it on a trip to the Grand Canyon in a few weeks.

This camera is my first venture into the world of digital photography, although I used to be an advanced amateur in the older film photography. I had all kinds of lenses and my own darkroom. Finally I could see the writing on the wall, however, and realized that I had to go digital. I am glad that I selected this camera. It has an amazing variety of settings, most of which I haven't learned yet. But that is no drawback at all, since it works so well in the "Auto" or "Easy" settings. So it is the best of both worlds: I can use it as a simple point and shoot, or I can gradually work into the complexities and all the capabilities that this little masterpiece boasts. So far, results have been very satisfactory, both for outdoor shooting and for indoor use, both with and without flash. I have experimented with the 10x zoom, which works great, thanks to the image stabilization. I tried a movie clip of my dog, and it is perfect. Currently my wife and I are house hunting, so I take the camera along and capture views of the houses inside and out so that we can remember which house is which. This is a great help in keeping them from all running together. I am definitely enjoying my SX110is very much. Now I do have one minor quibble: the camera comes with a 32 MB memory card--32 MB! That is hardly enough to even try the camera out. Come on, Canon--you can do better than that!

We purchased this camera after much research on Amazon and other sites. We previously had a Canon Powershot 530 that died after years of great service. We narrowed our choices down to the SX110 and the SX200 and decided on the SX110 because of price and overall it had slightly better reviews.
We have had the camera for about a month and are totally pleased with the pictures and the features. It is easy to use and all of the settings are intuitive, once you go through the manual.
The LCD screen is bright; we were concerned about not having a viewfinder but this has not been a problem. The face recognition feature is a great touch and works as described. We have been exceptionally pleased with the image quality.
It does a better than average job with red-eye reduction. The megazoom feature is flat-out amazing. We were able to take clear pictures at a ballgame with the 40X digital zoom feature without a tripod.
This camera has exceeded our expectations. This will be a great companion to our Nikon SLR. An excellent product.

I bought this camera when it first come out (for $199) to replace my older 4-year old Canon Powershot that used 4 AA batteries. The older model had a memory limit (for compact flash card) so I wanted trade up to something with more capacity to store videos and more high resolution photos. Since I was already familiar with the Canon buttons and menus, it was a short learning curve. This camera performed much better in low light compared to my father's Casio (his indoor and night shots turned out very grainy).

Since this model only uses 2 AA batteries, I find I do have to change them more often but I just keep extra rechargeable ones in the camera pouch. I like the lighter weight, the many features, and the available colors (yes, it's a Girl thing, I admit it!).

A note about recovery speed for taking photos: I found that this has to do more with the brand of the memory card I'm using. I missed a number of opportunities for some interesting shots on trip I may not be able to take again. I thought the batteries were running out of juice. However, swapping the batteries out with fresh ones didn't make a difference BUT changing out the SD card did! I was using three different brands -- don't get the cheapest ones unless the write speeds are decent.

I bought this camera based on the excellent(for the most part) reviews and price. So when i got home and opened it, it did not have the camera advanced operations/users guide manual in the box, it only had the basic/set up manual. So rather than wait for canon to mail me a users guide, I decided to print one at home and waste expensive printer ink. The manual recomends that you take some practice/test photos to find out which features you like and of course to see if the camera works like it should. So I put in a new set of batteries and I ended up taking about 10 pictures and the annoying low battery warning light came on. Ok, I thought just a bad pack of batteries. So I decided to try another unopened set of regular(alkaline) batteries, so after 15 photos this time, the low battery light came on again! I said: "thats it, Im returning this camera". I did not feel the need to try for strike 3, and I was not about to go out and spend atleast $15 for a rechargeable battery pack because the reason i bought this camera in the first place, was to save money. I have read many different camera reviews and some people complain about batteries dying at 60-70 pictures, try 15! The camera itself takes good pictures, has many good features, and is easy to use, so i wont't give it bad reveiw for anything else except the battery life...

Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP Digital Camera with 20x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom The best pricing was through Amazon from Crutchfield. The delviery was to be 3-5 business days and it arrived on the 6th, which meant I did not have the camera for a planned trip-poor planning on my part too. The camera replaces a Canon digital that suddenly broke and was too expensive to repair. I have had the camera for 3 weeks now, and I am happily impressed with the features and results. I am an amateur who likes to take close-range and distant photos but without the hassle of changing lenses. My old Pentax retired years ago. Surprisingly fun is the ability to take videos, almost like a cam corder. Also fun, is when the memory card can be put into the Panasonic TV slot and the photos make a slide show on a 50" plasma! I think this camera offers great flexibility and results for the amateur; with the need for more performance, but not the need to spend money on a camera or lenses that are rarely used. I am a "professional" complainer and critic so it is rare to report that I am recommending something.

Upgraded from an older point and shoot Canon. Really researched this camera. So far, I love it. I'm used to the Canon menus, so using this camera was an easy change. Daytime pic's are great. Night shots are challenging, but with a little experiimentation and a steady hand, I've taken some great pic's. And the video mode in HD is amazing. Some have said the playback is jerky, I have a newer laptop and decktop PC, and the video is playback is fine. Great camera!

Plenty of features in a compact design, a great camera for beginning and intermediate photographers. The camera isn't quite a shirt-pocket camera, but small enough to be easily carried.

The 2.5" LCD is bright and crisp. The only issue with the LCD is the 'noise' in low light conditions or when using the digital zoom. The noise is filtered out of the picture, but is still visible in the LCD.

The red-eye reduction feature is buried in the menu system, which makes it difficult to easily turn on or off, but the function can be assigned to the print button for one-touch access. The red-eye reduction feature works extremely well compared to older generation cameras. A lamp is used prior to exposure to reduce red-eye and any red-eye you may get is removed during processing.

The various shooting modes are great when used as intended. The action shot (high speed shutter) was available on older Canon models, but is missing on this model. I have yet to blur an action shot, but I've only taken action shots in bright sunlight. If you need a faster shutter in low light conditions, it can be manually adjusted in the Tv mode. Once again, plenty of features, and plenty of manual adjustments for the creative photographer.

If you intend on shooting 8MP photos, invest in a good SDHC Class 4 or better memory card. The SDHC cards have faster transfer rates than standard SD cards. The class rating on SDHC cards indicates the minimum write speed in MB/Sec. A class 4 SDHC card will write an 8MP photo to memory in slightly less than 1 second. A faster write means you're ready for the next shot sooner.

After much research, I settled on this camera because (1) I have owned 2 Canons that I have loved, and (2) I wanted a more powerful zoom than is available in most standard point-and-shoots. The zoom? Very cool. But I can't get past how grainy/noisy the photos are, especially when taken outdoors. I even had photos taken in ideal lighting conditions that had so much noise it was distracting (well, to me anyways). I finally took similar photos side by side with this camera and my 4+-year-old, 5MP Canon Powershot A95, figuring the side-by-side comparison would give me the answers I was looking for. I took photos with and without flash, in sunlight and shade, using auto, portrait, and landscape modes. The verdict was clear: "Old Reliable" was the winner. Sadly, I will be returning the SX110. This camera was a big purchase for me because I wanted something with more than the standardized 3x Optical Zoom of the vast majority of consumer digital cameras. I can easily say I am very satisfied, after more than a year of use.

This camera will seem bulky at first, especially compared to the sexier, slimmer models that are so popular, but after experiencing the zoom, picture quality, and all the functionality, there is no way to be disappointed. A lot of consumers want the camera that fits in your coin pocket, but there is only so much you can get with those cameras.

The SX100 has 8 megapixels, which is just as much as anyone will ever need unless you're looking to blow up your photos onto 5ft by 8ft canvases.

The user-controls are so easy to use, whether you're shooting in AUTO, or any of the more manual modes. For those who revel in photography, but are too poor to afford an SLR (and deal with the sheer size) will be very satisfied. You can adjust everything from flash-strength, white balance, shutter speed, aperture, to focal-length and color-filters. The scroll wheel which resembles that of an iPod makes changing settings on the camera fast and easy.

Flash recharge time is great to make for faster shooting, and most of all, the zoom (10x) gets you as close as you see with the naked eye. I love taking this camera to sporting events, vacations, the beach/river, snowboarding, really anywhere. But I highly recommend a case for this camera, as it doesn't fit in your pocket very easily, but I knew that when I was buying it.

I have to start by saying that it's the second Power Shot I've owned. the first one was A510 series, and I loved it, until I had dropped it once on the hard wood floor, and it broke. I bought A590 to replace it, and also loved, until...I had dropped it on the hard wood floor twice. It's still working, but the battery compartment won't close, so I have to keep it closed with my finger, while trying to take a picture. I love this camera, but I wish it was a little more sturdy.

This camera is absolutely the best camera I have ever owned and I have owned many. Only drawback is battery life but this camera is so versitle that it can be used by everyone from a novice to a professional. Love it, love it, love it.

Excellent image quality...optical image stabilizer works great! My second Canon camera (also have the S3IS) and they both take excellent pictures and are easy to use for the novice or intermediate photographer. Had a Sony compact camera in between...will never buy a Sony again...any motion by the shooter resulted in absolute blur. I've used my Canons on boats and the images are still crisp despite the motion. My future cameras will all be Canons!!!

I had purchased a Canon A1000 IS in the summer and found this to be a powerful, small camera. I used the Canon comparison to compare the A1000 and E-1 and found them to be the same camera except for cosmetic differences. I bought several E-1 cameras as Christmas gifts for women in my family. It is small, easy to use, has both an LCD viewer and a view finder so that the sun and other bright lights do not overwhelm the LCD viewer. A novice user can put it on Easy mode and do quite well, leaving only the composition of the photograph as a challenge. I set my wife's camera and that of her sister on Automatic. Frankly, Automatic is a little better in program selection and is just as easy to use as is Easy mode. For more challenging photographs, you can select Portrait, and other Scene modes so it is versatile. It is small enough that I can carry it in a jacket pocket and I used one at the Tulsa State Fair 2008 so I had a ready camera with good capability without carrying a lot of weight. Arthritis has helped me to decide on items of less weight and bulk. The photographs I took of KOTV Channel Six personnel using the Portrait Mode turned out excellent and yes, I worked them in Photoshop CS4 but I had good sizes to begin with. The image size is 10MP so it is adequate for most prints for those who would tend to buy this camera. It is pretty as well as functional and its availability in several colors lets you buy it for family members without young women thinking you got everyone the same thing. Overall, it is an excellent choice.

On the 2nd day of my 5 month long trip to Mexico my Canon Xti failed to function. I needed a camera! I am in a small town, a 9 hour bus ride from a city. The best camera I could find was a Canon Powershot A470. I bought it. Four days later I got the "lens error restart camera" message and got it repeatedly. So, I'll be without camera for the next four weeks. When I do get to the city the new camera I will be buying will not be a Canon. The power supply is needed for a fixed mount camera, which is what I had. The computer can then control the shutter and zoom without using up battery power. The product performed a designed an I have no complaints after about a month of use.

This camera suits my needs very well. Along with basic camera functions, I wanted something that worked with a macintosh. The pictures can be automatically uploaded to the computer using iPhoto and OS X. I have OS 10.3 and iPhoto 6. The software that came with the camera wanted OS 10.4 and above.

As for the camera itself, I found that it did not like the rechargeable batteries that I had. Thus, I had to order Canon rechargeable batteries. They work well. To give it credit, the manual clearly says that the camera works with alkaline batteries and Canon rechargeable batteries.

The SD memory card that came with the camera is too small for practical purposes. Be prepared to buy a larger card.

I have had the camera less than a month, so I am still learning about it. The default settings work well, but a little tweaking might make things better.

One thing that surprised me is the focusing method. This camera defaults to face detect. The camera must have had fun finding a face in my flowers.:)

The ability to view the pictures on a TV is nice.

This was my first ever digi cam. I bought it in June 2007. So its been more than 2 yrs now and I am having no issues with this Canon baby. I would surely recommend this cam to everyone.

All in all , it has been a fantastic camera for the last 2 yrs of my use and still going well.

Only issue I have found is when you shoot in night-mode , the images get blured and photo objects get mixed with each other.

I've had this camera for a little over six months. I've taken thousands of pictures and loved it. I'm getting into photography, I just needed something more hands on. Something that I can take control of. I didn't like how I was limited with what the camera thought was right for me. I do love the swivel LCD screen, it makes complicated angels much better to take pictures of. I carry this camera everywhere even though it is not that small. Since the camera had the swivel LCD screen, I wasn't worried that it would scratch while in my purse. I wish the lens cap attached to the camera. I've dropped it in the lake once, luckily it didn't go too far. I realize that most lens do not have the lens cap attached. Something to get used to.

I really love this camera. I was coming from a Cannon sure shot, little thing. It is biggger and heavier, but the pictures are AWESOME! I feel like a professional. The flash on it works nice, but I even purchased the hot shoe flash and wow... I just want to take pictures all of the time. The only thing is I don't know what to do with the lens cap. I wish it was on a string. One I take it off, I try to attach it on the neck strap, but it usually ends up in my pocket!! I have been very pleased with the camera. Features are awesome, too. I love the red eye reduction, and the options of cropping right from the camera (so now computer needed.)

I have had this camera for about a month. I bought it to replace a Canon Elf that I had for five years, but a plastic piece broke rendering it useless (my fault). I did not want to pay $350 for a camera that served as a back-up to my digital SLR. The price was right on this Powershot; the features far surpass that on my old Elf; and it takes great photos that enlarge to at least 8x10 with no noticeable difference in quality when compared to an 8x10 from my SLR (also a Canon). Photos taken using the digital zoom are noticeably of lower quality, but useful for photos going into the photo album. All in all its a great camera to have as a back-up when the bigger camera is not convenient or not needed, and as a main camera for those who just like to get great shots of vacations and family events. Note that it uses regular batteries and not a battery pack (keep extra batteries on hand; convenient for travel when outlets are not easy to find) and it uses the SD card instead of the CompactFlash used by the larger Canons.

I am a long time owner of Canon SLRs, but I have to admit that I am not impressed with their Powershot "A" line. I have had a number of models, three of which I had lens cover problems with (they do not fully open). I've ruined a lot of pictures with this problem. Canon could seem not to care less. I also find that I hate having to flip a switch to go into review mode, as the lens retracts. That's completely lame. I have also found the menus to be non-intuitive, especially around picture management (delete, etc). All in all, despite the raves about picture quality, I think this is an inferior product from a human factors and build quality standpoint. I would not recommend it, nor will I buy another Canon A series camera.

Canon should be ashamed of the (lack) of quality with this product. I have already had to send the Powershot 10IS back twice. When it came back the second time with a problem in the zoom lens getting hung up, I wrote to Canon directly. They sent me the newer version of this camera the 20IS. I haven't had it but two weeks and already it is doing some of the same things, zoom lens getting hung up, quality of the picture is poor, and the focusing is hard to manage. I would not recommend this product at all!! Of course, they are not calling me back after the second go round. I will no longer be a Canon fan nor recommend Canon to anyone. I am semi-pro. I had a Panasonic Lumix that was a far cry better than this one.

I did a fair amount of homework before buying the Canon Power Shot A590 IS with face recognition technology and image stabilization. Although it received many good reviews, my experience with the camera was very disappointing. Thw first big surprise was that although this is labeled a point and shoot digital camera, it has many features that allow an experienced photographer to modify the settings and make custom modifications. I'm not an experienced photographer and was easily overwhelmed by the choices, especially since the instruction manual jumped right in discussing these things before it even explained the basics of how the camera worked. The book didn't get to the basics until page 40! I have 2 other digital cameras that I've used for several years so I am familiar with how many digital cameras are set up----not that this helped. This model Canon represents some significant design changes in digital cameras which I wasn't prepared for. To make things worse, the instruction manual in many cases was incomplete or inaccurate. I quickly became best friends with Canon's technical support department just to learn how to use the camera! Although the tech reps were pleasant and tried to be helpful, sometimes they didn't know the whole story either. I also had problems with the software that comes with the camera for downloading pictures to my computer and editing them. When I first installed it, it worked fine. Then everytime I used it something went wrong and I had to call tech support for assistance. The problem would get resolved only to reappear a few days later and the prior solution wouldn't work any more. Even the tech reps couldn't explain why While the camera worked OK most of the time, it didn't function correctly all of the time which was really frustrating. Also the picture quality was inconsistent. Some pictures came out good, others (taken the same way) were lousy. I had so many problems with both the camera and software, even though they were brand new, I came to the conclusion that maybe I got a defective model so I returned it. After everything the camera put me through, I didn't want to waste my time trying another one so I am looking for a different digital camera to replace my older ones. If you are considering buying this camera, I wish you luck. You'll need it!

Ordered this camera from Amazon just before Christmas '08. I've been using Kodak products for the past few years, but my last camera was too clunky and inconvenient to just grab for some quick pictures.

Image stabilization is really great, and with the manual ISO setting up to 1600, you can get really sharp pictures at a distance without using a flash - great for taking shots of the kids at school functions when they're a mile away on a stage.

The video quality is excellent as well, and at 30 fps rivals the quality of my digital video camcorder (also a Canon). Be sure to get a high capacity, high speed SD card as well. I purchased with the camera a SanDisk Extreme III Class 6 8GB card and have been impressed with its performance; with this card I can take over 2000 photos at the highest resolution setting and/or 68 minutes of video.

I also like the fact that the camera uses AA batteries instead of its own proprietary battery. I'm using Rayovac Hybrid rechargeables, and I've only had to change the batteries once in almost 6 months, and that includes a trip to Florida, plus Christmas and birthday pictures.

I spent a few years waiting & researching & asking others with Sonys, Nikons, etc., concerning digital cameras that would suit my needs, basic indoor, sports & wildlife in Yellowstone (all times of day & night). This camera has a lot of zoom, enough pixellation to enlarge pics w/o losing quality, and a movie mode. I had been using an old Sony camcord with a Sandisc card to snap photos & make movies, I wanted the same options with a digital camera. I can film movies and can snap stills at the same time.

Other advantages: it runs on 4 AA batteries that seem to last forever which means no battery pack (or expensive lithium batteries) to run low just as a herd of antelope shows up. Very easy to download pics into computer. It's not tiny but it isn't heavy or awkward. Only dowside, the lens cover is easy to lose (I tied a thread to it so it's now attached to the strap). Price is very reasonable. Took a few years but I feel I made the right choice.

Compared to other brands that offer much of the same (except Movie mode, which few seem to have) I'd recommend this Canon SX10.

Was searching for a camera with an extended zoom and the resolution in the range of 8-10 MP. Caught hold of Canon SX 100 IS, but it vanished from the market before I could purchase it. Wanted a medium size camera so could not settle for Nikon P80/Canon S5 IS, because of its large size. Ordered Canon SX110 on the launch date itself with apprehensions about its features..but believe me, I am not dissapointed AT ALL.
Great manual controls for Aperture and Shutter speed make it a camera for Pros, while the Auto mode is wonderful for learning photographers. The zoom is great and the image stabilisation that the camera offers at the maximum zoom level (Even at 10x optical and 4x digital i.e 40x combined zoom) is awesome. The photos in low light during my recent trip to a hill station were good in the Night mode with lots of saturation of natural colours.
Face detection is also a good feature with the camera able to detect faces very very easily (I don't know how does it work, but it really works :-))
The Digital Zoom, unlike others cameras I have used, does not distort the image to a very large extent, thanks to the high resolution and the safety zoom features. I can upload photos to depict this.(I don't know how to do this in Amazon :-))
The battery life seemed ok only , as I was able to shoot around 200 shots with my Sony NiMH(2500mAH) bateries with flash. But the batteries are brand new and should gain more strength with a couple of charge-discharge cycles. But a spare set of batteries is always helpful.
I had a Nikon 5600 prior to this so wanted a middle size camera with extended zoom and manual controls, and glad to find SX 110 fit all my needs.
A thing that is missing is a Sports mode, which is a feature to shoot fast moving objects. I had this in my Nikon 5600, but could not yet find it on my SX110. Possibly the Manual controls for Aperture and Shutters could make this up for me. Still in the learning phase :-)

I reluctantly bought this when my 2-year-old Canon Powershot S80 froze and would have cost $150 to repair. I liked the S80, but I'm thrilled with the SX100 IS, which cost only about 1/3 as much.

What I love: easy auto mode, good manual controls, decent (low-resolution) videos. 8.0 MP resolution, good image stabilization. After the 3x zoom of the S80, 10x zoom is a delight; I get many pix I couldn't have gotten with the S80.

Minor quibbles: the function wheel on the top of the camera is frequently rotated by taking the camera out of the case. So I have to check each time that I'm in the same mode I left it in; I have ended up with bad photos when I thought I was in Auto mode and turned out not to be.

The batteries can fall out when you open the battery door to change the sd card. But this doesn't bother me; it's intuitive to hold the camera upside down when opening the door on the bottom. In that position, the batteries stay put as they should.

Altogether, I find this camera a delight. Every time I use it I'm reminded how much I like it. When the time comes for a new camera, I will certainly buy one of the successor models (the very similar Canon Powershot SX110IS 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) or the 20x Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP Digital Camera with 20x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.

I've owned many cameras in my life. For my current needs of quick, good snapshots and occassional professional portraits and action shots, this camera is the best I've ever owned.
