I bought my G15 some 6 months ago…..about 3 months after I bought it the front 'cover' (that closes after one shuts off the camera- protecting front element) stopped working properly and because of this the camera stopped working…I sent camera in for warranty repair and Canon techs said 'sand was found in lens' and therefore they wouldn't fix it under warranty….so they said originally I needed to send them $200 repair but went down to $155.00…..I have been a professional photographer for over 30 years….this, in my opinion, was a ruse to get $$$ - personally I think the 'cover' to the front element is a bad design…and I read someone else here w/a warranty problem w/Canon….this is too bad because I have bought their products for 40 years going back to the '60's…the other gent who had a problem w/Canon was smarter than I and apparently went to AMAZON for a replacement…I should have done that months ago….mgjht try this….bad, bad CANON…..I will try them again and perhaps notify the Attorney General of what Canon seems to be doing to avoid warranty repairs…..MD in Santa Fe, NM

I have had many different cameras. The last one I had was pretty old, but it was wonderful, it was an older model Canon. It was much more bulky and heavier than this one.It did take me a while to get used to the functions and such, but definitely love this camera. The only thing I really didn't like about it, you have to manually pop the flash up. On all my other cameras they have always just been stationary and off set from the top side. All in all, definitely worth the price! Super quick shipping and excellent packaging as well. The camera would not have gotten damaged in transit unless something super heavy smashed it!

Great Camera! Most people just go with their phones these days, but I love having my camera. I'm not a professional photographer by any means, so I'm still figuring out all this thing can do, but I'm always pleasantly surprised. The pictures come out great, and it's very easy to use.

A good simple camera at a good price. The only drawback is the same with most non-viewfinder cameras, sunlight can make seeing your object in the camera before the shot hard to manage.

I have been using a PowerShot G10 for the past 5 years, but after over 17,000 pictures, this camera was getting long in the tooth. I decided to upgrade to the G15. The G15 is smaller and lighter than the G10 (which was built like a tank), but still has a good solid feel to it. I haven't used the camera enough yet to really comment on some of the newer features, but they do seem good and intuitive. I have taken a series of test shots with it, and I am really pleased with the quality of them, with the same sharpness and excellent colors I had always liked with the G10. So, all in all, this seems to have been a good purchase.

Great Product all packed neatly in a little travel pouch. Have used it a number of times now, will be taking it to Austria later in the Autumn, so will get to use European plug/fitting. I'm more than pleased up to now. A Good Buy!

The newer version of this camera uses a proprietary battery, like most cameras do these days, but this version runs on standard batteries. I had purchased several "gum stick" style batteries for my old camera, and after a while none of them would hold a charge, it was infuriating. Not only did I solve the battery problem, but by buying last years model I saved almost half the price. Operationally the thing works like a dream, It'll do anything you want - it has lots of manual settings if you're the creative type. And the ultra long optical zoom range was what sold me.

Poor quality, the power lead was faulty and the information light on the device is not working. Also the lead was fitted with a 13amp fuse and not suitable for this device. A specialist should have known better. I should have returned it. However to much of a hassle. Lesson learned they should change there name to ZZZ

it does the trick, but has play when a lens is mounted. Not good, and likely will be going back to amazon.

Finally went on a diving trip. This is thicker than the previous o-ring and it has a tendency to bulge out of the housing when you close it. However, if I moved it around a little bit it would close correctly. You have to watch the housing closely when closing the housing to make sure it stayed in the channel.

Replaced my old Power Shot A20 that gave me 13 years of great pictures. Going from 2.1 to 16 mp gives me unbelievable picture quality. The zoom is really nice to. The Sx160 & the Sx170 are identical except the 160 uses AA batteries and the 170 must be recharged. As I am not a pro, the camera sometimes sits without use for extended periods, so the AA batteries are better for me. The batteries are so cheap when bought in quantities that it is not an issue. The 2 in this unit seem to last a long time. For an old guy (71) it is very easy to use without having to get out the directions when the memory fails. I also got the 32gb SD so I have enough memory for my 3 week motorcycle trips.Summing it up: great price, great size, easy use, fantastic picture & video quality, and a date stamp for old fools that have CRS.....thanks Amazon, Best Buy could not even come close, ordered on Sat, delivered on Monday thanks to Prime

I got this piece of utter garbage as a gift. It worked for a few days, I put it away and took no photos for a few months. Trying to use it again was useless. Batteries would not charge and no other batteries would activate the lousy "camera." After futile efforts for a resolution with Canon ( where one phone contact person said "Yeah, it is a piece of utter garbage" -- I used his words above), it now sits shiny and new under the kitchen sink. I spoke with a fellow in a Best Buy who also had the same camera and the same problem. He was angry...ANGRY, saying "I hope anyone associated with Canon gets cancer and dies." As I said, he was angry. I could never say that. The flu or a cold, maybe. Geez!

I ordered this camera after reading customer reviews. I received it, installed batteries. The memory chips I ordered at the same time never arrived. I had to go and buy one at Target. When I turned on the camera, the telephoto lens extended and then camera said lens error. Turn off and retry. The lens never went back in. When I tried to return it to the company that sent it, they sent me a return label. I was on vacation and had no printer, and also no box to fix the extended camera. I had to go to a UPS store and purchase a box and pay for a print out to send the camera back. I haven't received a credit yet.

Bought for my 10-year-old daughter. Good camera on which she has taken some really good shots, especially on macro. The only down point is that it runs off AA batteries which even when i use high-quality rechargeable cells, don't last a whole day, so you have to take spares all the time.

Very useful for added protection of the camera when in it's own case and fits around the case for ease of carrying with the long neck loop. First class product and supplier.

It's hard to think of anything to add to the other reviews here. The camera is wonderful. Having the dials makes it easy to manually change settings, such as with Aperture Priority. With the fast lens, the camera tends to favor larger apertures, so when I want to stop down I use AV or M settings and change the aperture to get more sharpness. I love that it shoots RAW and/or JPG, and the 1080p video is breath-taking.The monitor is very crisp and a joy to view in most lighting situations (brightness can be adjusted, too). All of the controls are intuitive and easy to use, as are the menus, especially if you've used Canon cameras before. The body feels sturdy and the non-slip finish is very effective.The only issue I've had so far is noticeable barrel distortion at wide angles, such as with cityscapes or architecture. Its not so noticeable with nature or portraits, and does fall off the more you zoom in.Battery life is fine, and the hot shoe works well with my Canon 430ex flash (though the flash is huge compared to the camera). Another note; I have a great little lens adapter tube attached to the camera, with a Sigma multi-coated 58mm UV filter. I like how this setup adds to the size of the camera (easier to hold in various ways), and it protects the lens. I just bumped it today walking through a crowded location, and didn't worry - only the edge of the filter was hit, and though light, it was nice to know it was an easily replaceable part and not the lens itself. Amazon has great prices on Canon and off-brand version of these.Over all, I definitely recommend this camera - I've found it a perfect carry-around piece. While it's still doesn't have all the features I love in my DSLR, it makes up for the difference in size, weight, and versatility. A great buy.

For starters it's a unique design and that's why I bought it ---and the reason why I might return it. While its small its quite heavy, like having a rock around your neck. Controls are very small, too small, and menus are not simple to use. Be wary.UPDATE: I have, in fact, made arrangement with Amazon to return the camera, the memory card and the charger with two spare batteries. It just is a difficult little bugger. As I stated, it has a beautiful design and is well built and quality like most Canon cameras, but it is far too small to safely handle in the field or indoors, it is too heavy -- that may be hard to believe but it is like a little brick if you have it on a strap around your neck, and the photos are NOT spectacular. I assume it might be "cool" for the Facebook, Instagram shoot-and-upload generation. If you are interested in the camera TRY to find it somewhere where you can handle and play with it before you buy. I see that now that the summer camera buying season is over Amazon is dropping the price. The last Canon I bought was in 2007, the Canon TX1, also an untraditional camera BUT great. I still have it and love it. But Canon never made a TX2 because users thought it was an odd shape etc., just like I feel about the N. I'd be surprised if there is an N2. Canon just brought out a Facebook Edition of the N with a button to upload to Facebook. I despise Facebook :0.

I've only just started using this camera, so what follow are very much the first impressions of a far from expert reviewer. I have a Canon 550D with two fairly expensive lenses, so am used to shelling out some good money on top quality products. For a pocket camera I had a Sony Cybershot W12, which my grandson dropped on one of our movie making expeditions to the railway line, so it needed replacing. I drew up a list of criteria and looked around for the best quality compact cameras on the internet. In fact none of them matched all the criteria - compared to a high spec SLR such as my 550D, I suppose you would expect some failings somewhere in any compact camera.

One of my key criteria was size: some of the best compacts were hardly pocket size, so I counted those ones out. But the Ixus 980 really surprised me when it arrived: compared to my Sony W12, it is ultra thin and the first thing I needed was to attach the wrist strap, in case of dropping it. I am getting used to the tiny dimensions now and it meets this size criterion superbly.

Another selling point of the 980 IS was its provision of a viewfinder. These seem to be becoming obsolete on compacts and clearly everyone is supposed to be happy with using the LCD screen to compose pictures. Some of the reviews suggested that the Ixus viewfinder was too tiny to be of much use, but I still wanted to have one. I have to admit, it is tiny and I am so far just getting used to being one of the crowd and composing with the LCD screen, a new experience. Of course, some of the larger compacts have larger LCD screens or even rotating and tiltable ones, and I don't know at this stage how useful this small viewfinder will be.

Lens Quality, Image Stabilisation and the host of other electronic and mechanical factors which contribute to high IQ (Image Quality), were also top criteria. The 980 IS got very good reviews on its IQ and so far I've seen nothing to contradict that. The combination of metering, auto-focussing and IS works very well, and in general it's a very highly specified compact, with many parallels to my 550D. Its speed in continuous shooting, even indoors, is particularly commendable.

Reading the reviews, I was aware that I might be losing out on the lack of a really wide-angle lens and some aspects of movie shooting: to wit, no zooming while shooting and no continuous auto-focus. But the more highly specified compacts which made good these defects all seemed to have disadvantages of their own. I was tempted by the prospect of the new Canon Power Shot S100, which seemed likely to shoot straight to the top of the best compact list; but one or two early reviews of it from across the Atlantic found what seemed to me to be some significant faults.

So after much inner debate, I plumped for the Ixus 980 IS as the best of the current crop, only to find that it was a rare animal! Quite a paradox, as nothing that Canon has produced subsequently seems quite as good. All I could find were used models, so I took the risk of buying one advertised as a "display model"/as new, with 10 months' warranty. So far I can only say that the description "as new" seems to be totally correct.

I am very happy with this purchase: if you are buying a compact to take with you everywhere, then size (pocketability) is crucial, I think, and, if it's your 2nd/reserve camera, you don't need to tick every technological box, but for a lot of money you ought at least to be getting a high IQ, which this camera certainly delivers through its outstanding lens quality, speed and 14.7 megapixel CCD sensor.

This camera takes great pictures. Are they as good as my Canon 70D? No. But at about 1/10 the price in many situations they can look just as good.This camera can also double as a "camcorder" -- a High Definition camcorder (720p). To give a rough idea about the quality, I'll compare it to a camcorder I bought circa 2002 for about $1100. This camera "camcorder?" is FAR superior in virtually all categories. One area it where it does fall short is battery life. Stock up on those rechargeables.

This camera has held up for years of abuse and provided good (private) digital records of my travels and exploits, in a format and on data cards that are stable and private (unlike the "clouds"). I like it and am grateful it still works well close to ten years later. Easy to swap data between devices. eats batteries for lunch. spend the money and buy good rechargeables. Data transfer to old I-Pods was a snap and I never lost any photos.

As a traditional photographer, I acquired this camera with some doubts at first. Once I became aware of its versatility in handling scrapbook digitizing with ease, with color adjustment built-in and a bit of steadycam it has become indispensable to me, enabling me to quickly upgrade Facebook and other sites with ease. This is an all-around winner for me, allowing me to be creative manually or automatically as I wish, compact enough to fit in my jacket for any snap-and-run situation.

It took a long time to get my mom from roll film to digital. I first bought this camera for her because it was easy, took great pictures and took double A batteries. I know still a little old fashioned, but I bought the rechargeable kind with the recharger and she can take it anywhere and not have to worry. After several years and thousands ( and believe me she loves her pictures) and a few drops of the camera here and there, the pictures started getting a line in them. We search high and low for another camera with at least the same zoom and mp AND the double A batteries. ( They just don't make them any more.) So I can't tell you how happy I was when I saw that Amazon had this camera!!! She has shots of the moon with this camera that you can even see the shadows of the craters and very detailed pictures of her birds and squirrels that are just amazing...... Thanks

As a serious amateur, I find this Canon PowerShot to be a great camera to use when I don't feel like carrying my DSLR. I use it for casual parties, travel where I don't want to pack the larger camera and lenses, and outdoors with my kids. The quality of the pictures and video are excellent. The camera is very responsive for a point and shoot, and I enjoy the flexibility to take pictures in RAW when I want too. I use the Wifi sparingly because I don't really need to transfer pics wireless and I find it drains the battery very quickly. On the whole, I think this is an excellent compact camera capable of great pictures.

This lens cap is sturdy and easy to operate. It snaps on and off easily. There is no problem getting my large fingers on the actuators. The strap is a good length.
