I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CANON CAMERA AND NEVER OWNED A COMPACT, BUT THIS LITTLE CAMERA WORKS GREAT.
WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A SMALLER CAMERA.

Takes very good pictures. Easy to use. Takes AA batteries. All it has to do now is last. Nice red color

The SX160 is a good compromise for a "point and shoot" and an ultra zoom ... it is small and light but takes good pictures and is relatively intuitive to operate. on trips the ultra zoom gets pretty heavy around your neck and is always bouncing on your chest as you walk... hopefully this camera will take good pictures while being easy to carry

On auto and every shot is blurry and the color and quality is terrible. The autofocus is not working properly nor is face detection. I did my homework, all the other reviews are great, just got a dud. No longer a Canon customer.

My travel camera.Overall great performance but very disappointed in its overexposure problems. Expected proper exposure under Auto mode for family photos, unfortunately over exposed photos are plenty for me. It got so bad that I am afraid of using the auto mode. One reason I carry it over my DSLR is its P&S capability!Focusing takes time. It is understandable but annoying given the $450 price tag.

The Cannon PowerShot SX160IS is a great camera for the buck$. Takes great pictures and does a nice job of Zooming is on subject. Also the ease in ordering thru Amazon.

Pros:Good quality.Great features.Great usability.Uses AA batteries.Versatile.Great for beginners.Cons:Eats batteries sometimes. I think the powerful flash is the reason. Will not do well with anything butNimh rechargables. You need a good charger and 8 batteries (two in camera, six backup) if you are going anywhere.And if you travel, you will need a car charger too.Internal Digix5 processing is horrendous. You must use this camera at ISO 100 as much as possible. ISO200 is tolerable. ISO400 and above, well, no enlargements capable, really. If you use only ISO100, decent pictures.My seven year old Canon Point and shoots do much better than this camera. I use Nikons for SLR shooting. I have used Canon point and shoots for over a decade, and their current lineup is a great disappointment.Comments:I returned this camera, and purchased an Olympus cheapo, which takes "better" pictures. I wanted a small pocket camera that would not be missed if I lost it or broke it. Wish I had gotten the Olympus equivilent of this camera now. Impressed with Olympus, and now VERY unimpressed with Canon point and shoots. Canon is now more dedicated to screaming "look at my big megapixels too", than providing a camera with pictures matching past cameras they have produced. If you read review everywhere, they mention the nasty artifacts with higher iso's in Canon cameras. Take the hint.Summary:If you just want a flexible point and shoot, and shoot low ISO, you should be ok. This is a fun camera. One of my "tests" is my bird's feathers. Canon fails, again at higher ISOs. Price is a bit high for this camera, but tolerable. I really would like another high end Elph (love them), but my experience with this camera puts me off now.

Bought this as a gift for my daughter who used our G15 on her trip to Europe and loved the camera. She was very pleased to get one of her own. The G15 takes very nice pictures with a smaller footprint than the larger DSLR cameras, making it perfect for capturing pictures on the go.

I used a regular point and shoot in the past only because they were petite and I needed to be able to hold a camera in one hand while doing dog photography for petfinder. The other hand needed to be free to hold treats, toys, etc. I was never satisfied with the point and shoot quality.This camera, with such a fabulous lens and so much lighter in 2013 with the G15 model, gives me crisp pictures and I love being able to change the settings/speed to capture lovely images of wiggly dogs. In bright sunlight, I have been able to take amazing action pictures.This camera is an absolute must if you are looking for very satisfying pro quality pictures, very close or equal to SLR quality, in a camera that is very easy to carry, hold, and adjust. No, it won't fit in a pocket but the photography results are so much better, it's worth hanging it around your neck.

Camera worked for 3 months before no longer powering on. Called Canon and received a replacement 3 weeks later. The replacement lasted 2 days before the shutter stopped working. Going to try and get my money back.

There's nothing to dislike about this model. This is my third and the price has dropped every time. The first one was great but I dropped it and the lens bent. I got the third because I wanted more pixels than the second one had. I've got two now, one of which is a spare just in case.
After all, this is a Canon, and has one of the best camera lenses in the world. A decent lens has to be the main critera for buying a quality camera, and this is a quality camera with a top class lens. Simple to use with plenty of features, it can't be bettered in it's range. Mine goes everywhere with me because it can go in a small pocket. Doesn't wiegh much and is very unobtrusive. Cracking piece of kit.
After all, this is a Canon, and has one of the best camera lenses in the world. This camera is fantastic! Has great optics and easy to learn to use too. Bought it for my boyfriend who knows little about techy things but knows photography and its products states the lens is really nice and clear without vinyetting (?sp). Took great Christmas pictures.

It has been years since buying this camera. Just now noted that I never rated it ... better late than never? ... well, it does a terrific job and it is likely out of print by now. If you are looking for one used, don't hesitate. It's a good buy!

Can't believe I wasted my money on this camera. Should have sent it back, when it came. The manual it came with was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! It gives you no real direction on how to work the camera. The only thing it really describes are the buttons, etc. The flash doesn't even automatically go up. Its size is bulky and for the first time I used it, all the photos came out fuzzy. I would not recommend ever.

The only downside is the AA battery powering. Photo quality is as advertised! I also like the wide-angle and zoom work very well.

I purchased this camera to use on vacation this past Nov 2013. After second use lens would not retract and closed. Broken lens motorafter 2 uses. For me this camera wasn't cheap in price but in it's self the camera was bad to only work 2 times.
