We have read that this is the key to keeping the waterproof gaskets on the camera from getting salt and sand build up that can cause leaks (says this in the manual too, but not sure how many people actually read the manual).We couldn't recommend this camera more, we know it is not the cheapest, but it works great.

This camera, though not expensive, has many qualities found on more expensive cameras. This is one of several Canon cameras I have had.

Was looking for a good new point-and-click as my 6 year old $99 trusty Kodak recently died. Went a few extra dollars for this camera based on all the great reviews. Just got it and used it this weekend. I must say I am not that impressed (though only used the 'Auto' mode). With pictures outside in gorgeous daylight the highlights are washed out and darks are very dark. Also, the clarity is not really great. Again, I was really expecting better pics than my 6 year old $99 Kodak, the fact that it's 6 year newer technology, and that it's about $100 over the average top rated point and clicks out there.. I am having buyers remorse at the moment. Maybe I need to get more into the manual settings... ? As far as video, decent, but the wind noise was bad even on a relatively non windy day. Right now I am thinking the extra $ was not worth it here.
