I bought this camera in March 2009 as a gift for my daughter because she wanted to start taking videos of my seven year-old granddaughter. I spent hours researching and I was so grateful for the excellent customer reviews here at Amazon. They told me everything I needed to know and more. I bought the camera, a Transcend 4 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card TS4GSDHC6E, a Transcend 4 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS4GSDHC6-S5W, and a Duracell Mobile Charger with 2AA PreCharged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries CEF23DX2 to get her started. Later I bought her a few more 4-packs of Duracell rechargeables. Almost four years later, everything is still working perfectly together. In the intervening years, this camera has gathered hundreds more excellent reviews, and it deserves them. I'm not qualified to talk about all its technical features and others have done that so well already, but I'm glad to share my daughter's experience with it. It's so user-friendly that not only my daughter, but also my little granddaughter, quickly figured out how to use all its features. It takes beautiful pictures and excellent little videos that are so much fun to watch. It gets dragged everywhere, sometimes without even a case, it takes all kinds of hard use and hard knocks, and it still works perfectly. Thanks to the faithful Amazon reviewers who helped me choose this camera, and thanks to Amazon for selling such great products. By the way, I know I shouldn't boast, but I can't help it - I paid only $79 (with free shipping too).

The Cannon PowerShot SX160 performed to all of my expectations. Low light photos without flash are not real good. Unfortunately the camera does not come with a printed manual to take with you. The camera controls are easy to understand and use.

A good size and weight for her to handle with a decent zoom. Takes great pictures. I use it myself when I don't want to carry my big camera. It would have received 5 stars, but there is no way to attach a neck/shoulder strap which would have made it a perfect camera for her.

This was for my husband. In reality becasue of the new iPhones, he has hardly used it. We loaned out for awhile but this week he used it on his trip out west to visit family. I know he likes it..he said pictures came out great but it is so convenient to use the phone I don't know how much he'll use it.

I should have bought this camera years ago. It is easy to operate and takes great pictures. It does take a steady hand when taking pictures using the zoom, but the image stabilization does help a lot. Looking forward to using it more often.

Bought this camera as a starter for my daughter. We so far like the camera. I was upset with Amazon with the purchase suggestion of the memory card and case. I bought them as a package in trust. When she opened the gift. The camera does not fit in the case. Can't return as she tore the packaging, just have to take it as a lesson learned. Just want to warn others before they buy the same thing.

I bought this after moving to my new house.. I somehow lost both of my other point and shoots (well.. they are still packed somewhere!!) and I was going to France! So I searched online and found this beauty.. it's pretty and shoots amazingly.. mixed reviews.. but I like Canon and it was cheaper and improved over my older point and shoots that I've bought over the past few years.. amazing how the prices keep dropping! This was a great purchase.. used it in France - Paris and Provence... worked great... the super saturated setting was amazing in Provence and just in general.. the wider angle lens was a plus.. the 16x optical zoom was great.. and it fit in my purse!!!! I ended up buying a neck strap as suggested by another reviewer.. OP/TECH USA Bin/Op Strap - QD (Wine) by optech.. listed in amazon.. just a small neoprene strap.. helped alot, kept it around my neck most of the time... and it was easy to hide under my scarf and jacket if you didn't want to look like a total tourist all the time! Early spring in Paris was quite cold this year.. Provence was wonderful! :) I have a Canon SLR - just didn't want to bring it along this trip as my boyfriend had his... comparatively my photos were almost the same as his! Of course he has his telephoto lens.. but he was impressed by my shots too! :)

I've had a great experience with the camera. It has held up to much use. The cord covers that others have commented about are fragile, but if you are careful, they won't break. If a child used them, they might be broken, but the camera would still be usable. It has been compatible with several computers & printers. I'm not a techy, so probably don't make use of all the functions.

works great, tested the underwater functions first day, amazing pics in the pool. worked great out of the box, we'll see how long it'll last. my last 2 powershots crapped out after a year'n a half. But overall a great little cam that can go pretty much everywhere

I have tried Nikon CoolPix 9500 prior to this camera. There is a huge class difference between these two cameras, the later being the clear winner. Better picture in the low light and self explanatory touch screen menu makes your job so easy to navigate. You lose nothing buying this camera and it would be a great investment.

Yes your smart phones take good picture and they are with you all the time. But this camera does it all and then some. This is a perfect camera to take any where you are going to shoot video or pictures. It is in a class of its own. Highly recommend it.

This is a great little camera! We bought this in replacement of an older model that was dropped (sx120is). We went with this model because it still used "AA" batteries and not a special battery as the newer models use (sx170is). This camera is very easy to use right out of the box with the "auto" setting. Takes great pictures.

I bought this camera a long time ago and it still works without a problem. All in all, I am pleased with it. The pictures are somewhat grainy at night and it requires a somewhat steady hand and a bit of patience, but it takes good pictures, even (especially?) in auto mode.

This camera is perfect for someone like me. I have the regular canon DSLR, but we were taking a trip to an amusement park and didn't want to lug around all the stuff for it. So looking through I purchased this camera, and was so happy I did. I love the automatic scene predictor it has, action shots came out perfect to even the close up shots without being blurry. This camera has everything you can imagine. Each picture I took came out perfect, and all I had to to was a simple point and shoot. I can honestly say this camera has now become my quick go to camera for everything.The only downside to this camera is that is seems a little flimsy. It doesn't feel like the outer covering is very sturdy. This should not be just tossed in a purse like some cameras can. I recommend a case when not in use.

The camera uses the battery power much to fast and they need replacement far to often. I returned the camera and upgrade to a cannon sx170 is which has its own dedicated battery and does;t use AA batteries. I am very pleased with this purchase and have taken many pictures without a battery recharge. Great Camera.

I've been wanting to buy a replacement for my ancient Sony DSC-V1 for the longest time but I've been dragging my feet since I really didn't really need it. But my DSC-V1 just died on me on my trip to Philadelphia, so I replacement was needed... stat!I looked around Amazon and some photo-oriented forums and blogs and this one and some other cameras were suitable for my needs: an affordable yet robust, reliable point-shoot, more sensor-heavy than pixel-oriented (some people just buy the one with the most mega-pixels!?), good array of options, nice zoom, good design, etc. And this one fit the bill.When I opened the box I immediately liked the feel of the camera: not too heavy or flimsy and a rugged feel that makes it non-slippery; it has a "pro DSLR" feel if you know what I mean!Although I've still to master all the camera's functions, the AUTO option works great on most scenarios; not so good on cloudy days. The first pics I took were very satisfying; they look awesome! I can now lay to rest that loyal DSC-V1... RIP!I didn't give it a 5-star review because I've yet to fully test it. More updates to come!

I had a canon powershot for my first 'grown up camera'( not one with a film in it!) and have loved it and carried it in my bag at all times. Always catch unusual things to photograph and always handy for proof. My camera 'died' so I bought a nikon but couldnt get on with it so decided to purchase a secondhand canon from Amazon and keep the Nikon as a spare,..... and I love it just like my first! No one would know it was used. All the paper work was there, the CD and the cables etc. boxed and perfectly packaged. SO worth the money. Love, Love, Love it!

Overall, the Canon A530 does a commendable job for the price range which it sold at in 2006. As a poor college student, I could not afford a new camera for my summer study abroad trip to China in 2012. So I took this little Canon. The absolute best feature of this camera is its battery life. I was able to take about 630 pictures using energizer lithium batteries. Its size and light weight also enabled me to keep it in hand for long periods of time without getting fatigued; this enabled me to capture many nice shots that I otherwise would have missed with a bulkier camera. Like all older point and shoots, this camera is sorely lacking in low light performance and has a rather low iso range compared to the cameras of 2013. To get a remotely acceptable night shot I would have to take around five shots. Four of the shots would be blurry and unusable, and one would be clear and very noisy. In daytime this camera takes more than acceptable pictures; however, don't expect to take many good nighttime shots. The 5 mp shots the A530 makes are fine for viewing on the web and for smaller prints, but as soon as you view pics at more than 50% zoom they no longer look that great. All in all, this camera was a great buy in 2006 and managed to serve me well six years later on a pretty demanding month long excursion.

The camera itself seems to work really well. The optical zoom is crystal clear every time, even with my slightly shaky hands. I like the fact that it has so many manual options. I inevitably sent this camera back because the box was missing the USB cable (I don't have a card reader on my laptop). I ended up reordering it elsewhere for a little less. Overall, the camera is nice and I'm excited to take it on upcoming vacations.

We love this camera. Super durable. Have had it for over a year now. It's been in sand, oceans, rain, volcanoes and hot sun. It's everything it's advertised to be and it takes awesome pictures.It can sink pretty quickly though. We bought the kit with it that comes with the flotilla, carabbeaner strap, etc. and it's perfect. Gives peace of mind and kept the camera floating right along with us on snorkeling trips. Highly recommend.

I feel this camera is a step in the right direction for the price range...For 149.00 it's going to be hard to find a 16x zoom with 16mp...I tried and I can't find one.The video is nice not amazing: HD 1280 x 720: 25 fps but a step up from the 640 x 480: 30 fps (29.97) even with less frames per sec. I have yet to try the other vedio settings:iFrame Movie HD 1280 x 720: 30 fps / 25 fpsMiniature Effect HD 1280 x 720: 5 fps / 2.5 fps / 1.25 fpsMiniature Effect 640 x 480: 6 fps / 3 fps / 1.5 fpsThe pictures are very qualty...You will be happy...some noise with ISO 400. Sure, I like to have some more choices for Aperture f/3.5 (W) - f/5.9 (T) is limited in low light non-flash shooting but but the flash is very powefull and will be fine for low light situations. Bottom line: for this price range it's very good camera..for under $150.00P.S. Pick up something like Canon PowerShot SX160 IS Digital Camera Battery Charger Replacement of 4 AA...They'll hold the charge for at least 230 pics with about 50-60 with flash...Plenty in my opinion... Think about how many pics we take and how many we really are going to print or put in a slide show maybe 1/10th?

Digital electronics must always change and add new capabilities. Unfortunately all changes are not for the good. This SX10IS was fun to play with for night shots, star shots, star trails and more. I have not found this capability available in subsequent iterations of this camera although I really like the longer and longer lenses.

My very expensive Canon SLR has broken twice since I purchased it - the first time the repairs cost me over $200 and I wasn't willing to invest that much in repairing it again. So hubby did a whole bunch of research on what is the best, affordable point and click camera out there and came up with this. I LOVE IT. Very easy to use and the great part it has lots of the great features that I had based my purchase of the SLR on. I'm very pleased with this product!

The SX130/150 series compacts suffer from poor optical performance, sluggish response, and bad battery life.

The lense produces soft images, with sharpness really dropping off at the edges. Grain is visible in the sky and darker areas even at the 80 ISO setting. Macro performance is bad.

What I find truly appalling is the speed of the lense in terms of 'light-gathering ability'. The lense is rated at F3.4 widest aperture, but even in pretty bright conditions, the shutter speeds are slow, and this results in blur when taking pictures of animals and action scenes etc. How can this be ?

Well, I compared the results from an older Powershot A610 (2006)set to the same focal length, aperture and ISO setting. I found that for the same scene, the old Powershot chose a shutter speed twice as fast ! Obviously a faster shutter produces sharper pictures. Canon are not being entirely honest with their claim of F3.4. Now the SX150 has image stabilisation which helps of course, but this is no substitute for a fast lense ! If there is any movement in the scene, it will be blurred. One way around this is to select a higher ISO, but this increases the grain.

Another problem is the focus performance - the old Powershot will focus reliably on a wide range of objects - a jet flying high in the sky, or an object 1cm away. The SX will not lock onto an aircraft, and it often gives the green symbol in macro mode, only to find on review that it's out of focus ! There is only one focus option - centre, whereas the old powershot has a moveable focus point so that you can compose a scene with the main object of interest off-set to one side.

Rather than chasing a higher pixel count, Canon should have concentrated on better optical and focus performance - and all those manual options simply can't come to the rescue...

I love this camera. It is just the right size. Not too big, and not too small. I got this camera for an upcoming trip to Europe and don't want to lug around a heavy SLR with all the extra lenses and accessories. And some other models, like the Canon S110 or the Sony RX100, are just too small for my large hands. This camera is a great compromise. I've been using it around town to learn all the features before my trip and so far it is living up to the great reviews. The pictures are sharp, the colors are excellent, the camera is quick and responsive. I'd love to hear from any pros out there suggestions on how to set up the custom modes, C1 and C2, for my trip. I'll be going to the Swiss Alps as well as Lake Como and Paris. I'd like one setting for the vast landscapes of the Alps and a second for shooting interiors, like churches and museums.

MY WIFE HATES THIS CAMERA. .FIRST SHE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BATTERIES DYING TOO QUICKLY UNTIL I GOT HER THE RCHARGABLE , NOW THE PICTURE QUALITY IS TOO GRAINY.

It will be fun learning all the features of this camera. Having been a Canon user for years makes it easier it jump right in with the G15.
