These cameras eat AA batteries for lunch... I know that, and I expected that. But... rechargeable AA batteries are easy to get and not very expensive... so I keep about 6 with me when I go on photography trips. Additionally... unlike cameras with a proprietary battery pack... if my batteries are dead... I can hit any local store for regular ones and keep shooting... something you can not do with a fancy battery pack.The zoom in incredible to say the least... and FAST. I have the Canon SX130 IS, and purchased this one for a friend... now I'm jealous! The zoom is smoother, faster, and doesn't record the noise as did the 130. The images are crisp, and the detail at 12MP is superb. I find the camera to be a good weight and size and very easy to use. Plus... there are many special effects and filters built in.It has a PROGRAM mode where you can set the exposure, manual focus, etc... so you can do things that were formally in the realm of a $400 plus camera. I'm very happy with it.I only wish it had the capability to install a filter such as a polarizing filter... so for that I gave it a 4 out of 5.

This camera works great. I took it with me overseas to keep a photo diary. I love that I have been able to take close ups of the moon (64x). The only issue is the stabilization. But I am going to try a tripod to see if this helps. Overall for the price I paid its been a good camera.

For the last five years I've been using my old faithful and very capable Konica-Minolta A200, a camera much like the Canon SX10-IS. They share the SLR-like package, most of the same features, with the K-M coming out ahead on things like f-11 instead of f-8, RAW processing (missing on the Canon), a threaded lens barrel so one has the option of using filters, and most importantly, a mechanical SLR-like focus ring.
So I've been looking around for an "upgrade," since cameras do usually get better over the years. This Canon was attractive because of Canon's reputation and of course, the 28-560 lens (as opposed to 28-200 on the K-M), and the bigger articulated monitor. But the rest of it had to shine, too, to get me to trade off the obvious benefits of the K-M.
So I became the owner of a Canon SX10-IS. OK, one more reason for the trial venture into this camera is that I also have a Canon G10, an amazing photographic instrument. What I was hoping for, seeing that they're both Canon cameras, was that the SX would embody at least a semblance of the build quality and functionality of the G10.
Not happening. I immediately took some lots of photos at various settings and they were mostly very good. But the first turn-off was that much maligned control wheel. On the G10, it is a precise control, with precise detents at every function change. Silly me, I figured that they would use the same one on the SX. On the SX, the wheel is sloppy and has no detents at all. You turn the wheel and sometimes whatever function you are working in will change values, sometimes not. But always it changes the values arbitrarily and not to what you want. A little past or a little short, but rarely right on. I do a lot of HDR work and need to take 12-15 shots on a tripod, at 1-EV intervals. Not with this thing, unless you have the patience to play around with it at each interval, working it back and forth between every two shots until finally you get close. And then if you touch it a bit to hard you will press it in (it is also the four-way controller) and change some other major setting. Enormously frustrating. I'm pretty dextrous and have had lots of experience with many cameras and I love the same feature on the G10, but I have never seen a camera control this bad. Not even on a $69 pocket camera.
If my old K-M feels like a solid camera and the G10 feels like a precision instrument, the SX feels like some kid's cheap video game controller. The various buttons are not well defined, loose in their mounts, the electric zoom is like most cheap cameras where it zooms past where you want it and you have to toggle it back and forth to get it right. The flip-out monitor does not go out far enough to make it parallel to the back of the camera, where I need it to be for a lot of my work (and it is on any other camera I've used with an articulating monitor).
Anyway, my impression of this camera during my three-days of owning is were that it is a highly overrated consumer product that is viable only to those who will give up a lot for a long telephoto lens. It didn't expect it to compare in overall quality to the more expensive G10, but I was hoping it would be close, and in an SLR-like package that is more comfortable for me to handle than the boxy little G10. They got the SLR-like package down, but that's about it. Then the newer versions, the SX20 and 30 are getting worse across-the-board reviews, with the pros claiming that Canon is indeed playing games with consumers by touting more MPs and a longer lens, but in a camera whose image quality has actually deteriorated. Shame on you, Canon, for using your fine reputation to con the masses.
Too bad. I was all excited about that long lens, too. But I'm still looking for a better camera than my little K-M A200. And no, I will never go back to dSLRs. My days of schlepping 20 pounds of gear are over!

For the money of this camera I expected better. I typically use the Point and Shoot cameras and thought this would be a nice upgrade. It take okay pics - nothing fancy or great but the flash was the deal breaker. This take 2-8 seconds after each picture to "Charge The Flash" as the camera says. This feature renders it useless for me and I am returning it for a full refund and bought an Olympus instead. First Canon camera and probably going to be the last.

I love the size and ease of using this camera. The zoom is just enough for most photos and I have some of my best photos from using it. The reason I chose this model is it uses 4-AA batteries - I don't have to use a rechargeable battery (rechargeables have NEVER worked out for me, always failed at the wrong time)

I've used this camera for about a month now and I am very happy with it. Pictures are very clear, color is true and it's a breeze to use. Bought a case to carry it and just enjoy the whole experience. I'm partial to Canon anyway but I researched carefully. This was highly rated and I concur.

We like this camera for the price we payed for it, specially the large zoom allows to take closeups from quite far.Odds: it consumes much energy. Must have with you a pair of spare batteries ALWAYS.The case amazon recommends to buy with this camera is quite small. Quality is good but the camera fits quite tight in it. I think amazon should have to review this recommendation. we recommend people to see a larger case.

I wish there was a view finder- impossible to see the display 0n a bright day. Regular batteries- short life. I have had this camera less than 6 mn. The exsposure button flew off after taking an exsposure and the button hit my granddaughter on the cheek. Dangerous!! Easy to use and pics are good. Fun to use with grandkids and experiment with pictures. COB

Nice camera. I really like it. However, if you think you're going to connect to your computer and phone wirelessly as touted, get ready to get out the manuals and settle into hours of frustration with maze-like directions and no help. First, you must sign up for Canon Image Gateway, an experience that first requires registration of your N camera, which then fails to show up under your registered products once you enlist in the Gateway program, and you have to re-register the product all over again.Once I successfully joined Canon Image Gateway, I presumed an icon would appear on the camera (like the Twitter icon that did appear) so I could at least upload pictures to their website for later download, as promised. Uh-uh. You will also find - at least I did - that the Canon N only sometimes will join your network, telling you that your password is wrong, only to tell you next time that your password is fine, even though you haven't changed it. If you think you're going to send photos to your phone, in my case an iPhone, good luck. And I don't mean that sarcastically, because luckily, I did manage to connect to my phone once or twice for a nano-second before being disconnected with no explanation, except for the message "disconnected." So far, I've never substantially connected to my phone (yes, I've downloaded their app), though I might one day. I like the camera, but right now, the advertised "connectivity" is not for the faint of heart.

Bought for a cruise, for beach and underwater (snorkeling) use. Also purchased a separate floatation strap based on comments here about the strap coming off with unfortunate consequences.Worked very well - no leaks or other problems, although we were careful to soak in freshwater after use in the sea (per the instructions), and also very careful that there was no sand in the battery/SD card seals etc.Underwater pics and videos were pretty good all things considered, definitely met expectations.Outside the water though the picture quality is mediocre, possibly worse than current gen smartphones.

Apple's Aperture recognizes the RAW format used by this camera. This camera's WiFi is designed to connect easily with Apple's Macs.I don't own this camera, but am leaning towards buying it for these (among other) reasons. I'd appreciate comments from other Apple users.

Have barely used the camera, but it is different enough from my prior Canon camera that I have needed to refer to the User Guide. Be aware that the User Guide is not included with the camera, but is online as a pdf file. The pdf is 215 pages! It is difficult to navigate online. If you print it out it will be over an inch thick and weigh more than the camera!

I purchased this camera because I like taking pictures with a real camera instead of my phone. The quality is just so much better. So this is perfect because it's small enough to carry around (it's smaller than my iPhone) and can easily upload the pics to my phone. It is a bit thick but not bad. So bottom line, I'm not a pro photographer, just someone that likes to take pics for sharing with friends and social media (Instagram and Facebook) and this is the perfect addition to carry around with me.

this camera is the best Christmas gift I could ever buy for myself. Coming from a camera noob, I bought Canon because my roommate is a film production major, and after telling her my ideal camera, she advised me to purchase this one. The pictures are very clear, and there are a lot of cool settings you can play with. It is a point and shoot, but I honestly feel like it's a DSLR at heart lol. No cons so far, everything is perfect!

I have an older Power Shot that I love, but the battery door broke! So I decided to get one with more zoom. I'm also used to the aa batteries (use lithium) and didn't want the battery pack. My only complaint now is no user manual only cd rom which I have no way of using!! Is there a manual available? Thanks.

This camera is so much better than the smaller point and shoots. It is able to shoot in most low light situations without the aid of the flash. Night photography is now a possibility! The video function is easy to access and it takes great videos. I love being able to adjust f-stops and shutter speed. I can finally be creative with shots and am really enjoying this freedom.When you have this camera in your hands it feels like you have something. Such a contrast to the cheap plastic point and shoots that are otherwise available.Very pleased with this product.

I replaced my PowerShot S95 with this camera. Great camera as a backup for larger DSL. Very good indoor and low light shots. I carry it in my purse all the time. The pictures are miles ahead of the quality of phone shotsl.

The new category of cameras that active people are interested in is compacts with manual functions. Mountain Biking, Ski Touring, World Travelling, you want a camera that is small but won't produce mediocre shots. After using a DSLR, I wanted a camera with similar performance without the bulk. The Canon G15 delivers the goods. Although a little bulkier then the average point n shoot, the G15 still can be stuffed into a bike jersey or ski jacket pocket. The sensor is smaller then a DSLR, but much larger then the average point n shoot. For its size, low light performance is decent. Once you learn to balance ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, you can get some great shots. While indoor shooting with the small flash, I got some outstanding shots. The TV or time value function, set the shutter speed and everything else is done automatically, is the most valuable asset that this camera has for a user with my interests. Set the shutter speed to 1/1000th, and you can get great action shots without having to adjust the settings every shot. Video is decent, good enough for a digital camera. This camera isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. I highly recommend it for action sport participants. Recently went on a trip with a friend who brought a Sony NEX mirrorless camera, and the G15 blew it away.

I just received this camera yesterday and took it for a test drive today. I gave the camera 4/5 stars only because I haven't had a chance to see what it's like downloading photos to FB. Totally happy with its size and image quality and video quality also impressive. Very easy to use and get used to. Connected it to my iPhone by installing the Canon Camera Window app. Really easy to transfer photos and videos from the camera to my phone, but be patient as it takes some time depending on the number. Having a trickier time connecting to FB since I have a MacBook Air that has no disk drive. Tried to download the software from the Canon website, but my Mac wasn't detecting the downloads. Contacted customer service and they suggested installing the software disc on another computer then downloading it to a USB key and installing it on mine from the key. Will try as soon as I can! I'm a seasoned photographer, well-versed in equipment, and was at one time a professional photographer. This camera is a great addition to my iPhone's camera and is an easy accessory to throw in my purse!

Its a good camera when lighting is adequate. However, in flash mode there is still a long delay before the exposure is taken. This results in a lot of missed shots or shots taken just a quarter second too late, even when people are posing for a photo. I expected more given the newer Digic processor.The ability to shoot in raw is of course what makes this camera a good deal. and that doesn't disappoint. But I've found it isn't always the more portable replacement for a good DSLR in casual settings that I had hoped for.

It takes great pictures and video, and was easy to learn how to use the basic features. Love that 16 to 1 zoom, IF I hold the camera more steady. Be aware that some of the largest files on your harddrive will be those 720p videos if you take long ones. I did reduce the picture res to 8mp, as that's already much better than my last camera, and I don't do poster prints. Battery life with Eneloops was outstanding, 2 weeks on one set during our Niagara and Pennsylvania trip! And I took a couple of hundred pics and vids. The Transcend 16GB Class 10 card keeps me shooting as rapidly as I need to shoot.

I'm not very good at reviewing items, but here goes.After debating between the Canon G15 and Nikon P7700 (which i tried first and returned) I got the G15. I've had it for a little over a month now and have decided it's a keeper. Having been a Panasonic fan for years, I was a little disappointed in my last Pany camera (ZS15) and wanted something that shoots better in low light situations. I understand that these are two very different types of cameras. So far this camera does an amazing job inside but due to the winter weather, I've not been able to get outside to shoot very much, but I've really liked the pictures I've gotten so far. I shoot mostly in Aperture, Shutter or P mode and since I've still got so much to learn about settings, I don't always get it right but I figure that's the only way I'm gonna learn. I also shoot jpeg & not raw. Now the one thing I don't like about the camera is that it really blows out the highlights and I've not been able to figure out the right adjustments to compensate for that. Did read in other reviews that the camera has a problem with this. The other thing is I'm having a heck of a time finding a case to fit it. Just want something not to big, padded, that i can carry on my belt, with an extra battery & sd card. I've bought 2 locally and both were to small so had to return them. I guess I'm just going to have to take the camera with me when i go shopping for a case next time. So if anyone reads this and has found the perfect case that it will fit into with the battery & sd card and can carry on your belt, would love to hear about it. So unless you are looking for a longer zoom and articulating back screen, which Canon did away with on the G15, I would highly recommend this camera. The 4 star rating is due to the problem with blowing out the highlights.

I have owned several high powered digital cameras including the Canon 1D, 30D, and the Lumix GH2 and the G15 is the best combination of size and power that I need.The thing with DSLR's is that you end up not taking them everywhere and because of that, I found myself using my iphone for pictures and video all the time. The G15 is not as small as some of the point and shoot out there but, for me, it gives me the DSLR look in pictures that others don't specially because of the F2.8 lens and RAW capability. Another pleasant surprise was it's video capabilities. It creates wonderfully warm and sharp videos that definitely differ themselves from cell phone videos.If you need to find a good compromise between a DSLR and your cell phone, this is it.

I loved my Canon SD780 right up until it fell and broke while we were on vacation. I'm a fan of Ken Rockwell's blog and bought a Canon S100 based on his recommendation. While it's a great camera it is no where near as pocketable as my SD780 was. I've since been patiently waiting for a suitably small replacement. I saw an ad for the PowerShot N, read the reviews on Amazon and bought one same day. Upon opening the box, I was surprised and disappointed to see that the PowerShot N is about the same size as the S100 I was hoping it would replace. I'm sure it takes great pictures but I'm sending it back instead of bothering to find out. The Canon S100 already takes great pictures and I see no point in replacing it with another camera of the same size. The PowerShot N also feels slightly heavier than the S100. My ideal camera is one that I'll forget is even in my pocket.Just because it's not for me, that doesn't mean it isn't a wonderful camera. It's much smaller than any DSLR, "pro-am" or "serious" camera which means you're more likely to have it with you and use it. The body feels like tough metal construction. I like everything about it except it's "averge" compact camera size. I'm sure the tiny camera I'm looking for will not take as good a picture as the PowerShot N but it will get the shot because it will be in my pocket when I need it.

This camera does not have an eyehole, you must use the view screen. In bright sunlight and some other light conditions it is impossible to see anything in the view screen. I have an older Canon A540 in which the batteries last for hundreds of pictures. This SX160 uses batteries at an unbelievable rate, sometimes I only got 50 to 75 pictures from one set of batteries. Picture quality is excellent. I bought this camera for the 16X zoom lens and was very pleased with its performance. If this camera had an eyehole to sight through and the view screen could be turned off to save power I would have given it 5 stars. When the camera is first turned on the option to enter a date, time and time zone is present. The camera would only remember this entry until it was turned off. When restarted it had to be reentered. In order to have camera remember the info it must be entered by going through the menu.

Have had this camera for a while now and love it. Has traveled well and shoots in a variety of conditions. Having to use AA batteries helps with traveling as you can always get new ones everywhere if needed as opposed to be somewhere to charge it. Is a bit larger because and its versatile zoom lens. I bought this to fit a few old Minolta lenses to my Sony NEX-5N and, after about a month of use, it has yet to let me down. The alignment dots on the front and back sides work well, and the release pin has some nice spring to it. This adapter seems like it is well built and I hope it lasts as long as I expect.

I bought this camera and I had taken an excellent pics. Like a professional. I love my camera,I highly recommend it.

I received this item as a Christmas gift as my previous digital camera (Samsung NV100 HD) which I have had for years had sadly been dropped a few too many times and so had become faulty. An interest of mine is photography, and my Samsung was a brilliant all-rounder digital camera for this and even got me through a Photography course with top marks! However I was recommended Canon as they were also deemed to be good "all-rounders"
Having used this camera for a good two months I have found the following:
PROS:
- Excellent zoom quality
- Easy to use
- Comfortable to hold when shooting
- Picture quality can be good when shooting inside (provided flash is used, otherwise blurry)
- I find using the flash generates high-quality pictures
- Landscape pictures come out good quality
- Nice looking camera
- Cheap price
CONS:
- When not using flash, even in outside/well lit environment picture quality is not good
- Manual flash (Can be seen as pro or con depending on preference)
- Macro (close-up) mode is awful. Have taken better close up pictures with the camera on my old mobile phone!
- Flash has to charge before and after use which can be time-consuming
- Never had a camera with such high battery usage (I use re-chargeable specially designed camera batteries, have tried alternate batteries thinking mine were just getting old but then realised it was the camera at fault)
- Unreliable picture quality
Sadly this is not the camera for me and I am hoping to upgrade soon. Depending on preference/use I'm sure this would be perfect camera for some people but for just not for me.

I thought this camera was pretty good for the price. However I seem to be making up the price difference in buying batteries. I took this on vacation and I had to put new batteries in 1-3 times a day!!!! Seems a bit much. As soon as I start recording a video the low battery icon starts flashing. Not very reassuring. And yes it does take quite a while to get the flash going. I've had to ask people to wait...wait...wait for it....almost ready and the moment is long gone when the flash finally goes off.The picture quality and zoom capability is good. There are picture filters on the camera but not explained in the instruction booklet.I think Canon has been around long enough that I expected better from them.

I am a long time lover of canon products and wanted one to replace my old one from the same s-line because the mechanics had started to fade. I picked this model because I wanted something with replaceable batteries, having never gotten the hang of the rechargable ones. I like to travel and can buy AA's anywhere in a pinch, but if my charge dies and I miss a day of picture taking I'd be a very, very sad person.I've had this model for about a month and it has been acceptable. I know it's on the lower end of the price range, but I feel like the quality has gone down from the previous model to the current one. In low light, it really doesn't preform as well as I had expected. I'm also a person who likes to tinker, and I feel like this one has less settings and options than previous versions. The focus also has additional features that require a steep learning curve. I like the camera, it works for now, but I'm not in love like I have been in the past. It works for now, but I'm all ready itching to find a model that better fits my needs.
