I have owned and loved my Canon G12 for the past two years. When I recently learned of the new G15 I wound up buying it on impulse due to my previous good luck with Canon and the promise of improved performance. Also influencing my decision was the fact that I was about to leave on a fall vacation trip which would provide a great opportunity to test the camera.I could not be happier with the performance of the G15. Here are the features that impress me the most.1. The smaller form factor does make it a bit easier to carry.2. Low light performance is incredible. Even at higher ISO's up to 1600 this camera produces very useable images.3. The image stabilization continues to be excellent and allows good handheld shots to be taken in difficult lighting situations.4. I use the movie function sometimes just to insure that I capture an optimal still image for various events. The new 1080p HD shooting mode and ability to refocus while zooming are real improvements that I find very useful.5. The elimination of the separate ISO control on the top of the camera and the rearrangement of the exposure dial control have been easy to adjust to and have not caused me any difficulty.6. The loss of the moveable rear LCD display has also turned out to be a non-problem. I only used this feature sparingly on the G12 so the larger and sharper (although fixed) LCD on the G15 is actually another improvement for me.A quick comment on the included software. I find the Canon Imagebrowser to be largely worthless for my needs. It has a strange interface from my perspective and takes up a huge amount of disk space. My main need is to edit movies. For this task the freeware program Video Pad is much superior. For RAW image manipulation the Canon Digital Photo Professional software is quite sufficient.The bottom line for me... I think Canon has done a great job of moving the G series along with the new G15. I am extremely pleased with the camera and strongly recommend it for those considering an upgrade.

Short and sweet: great quality pics, awesome size for easily carrying it in a pocket or purse, and easy to figure basic functions out, altho you have to go online for the full manual and learning the finer details (and I learned a LOT by reading thru it!)I also found the BEST little camera bag for it - perfect size and nice padding, with a pocket for extra batteries and memory card = Swiss Gear Legacy.

I have now had this camera for seven months, and I continue to be amazed at the picture quality, almost as much as I am by the 1 & 2 star reviews. If you can't figure out how to open the box, you should not write a review on a complex advanced digital camera. Yes, you can set it and forget it in the Auto mode, and it will produce fantastic results, but when you start to stretch it's legs, you will not find many cameras +/- $200 that will produce the same vivid colors with the same depth of field as this Canon offering. So far I've had it in San Antonio TX, Aptos CA, Panama City FL, and Salt Lake City UT. Each location shines for its variety of photographic opportunities. For landscape and architectural captures I actually do prefer the Smart Auto. I have operated it myself taking advantage of the SP and AP options, but I have seldom been able to produce results better than the smart auto.For portrats the Portrait sceen mode does a more than acceptable job, but the auto features will be appreciated.If you want a good in between camera, and don't mind a smaller lens zoom, this camera will make a good companion.

Pictures blurred if you move even a bit while pushing the shutter. Zoom quality is good. P mode many times better than AUTO mode. Pictures mostly good within 20 feet, more than that it occasionally lost focus. Low light exposure is really good, but far distance night shots rarely make crisp pictures. Flash does its job well, but not for far distance. Close up is good up to a few inches from the object, I used it to read very fine prints on electronics then viewed it in zoom mode. Tried all modes, can not get that great sunset shot like a very good camera. Screen has no frame to protect against scratch. Great pictures if your hands are very steady (standing still) and take time to half push the shutter to focus before pushing it all the way down. Battery life is shorter, but I can always bring or find extra AA batteries, thats what I love about this camera. Heavier than anticipated. On camera picture edit/crop and Movie mode is fine, but eats battery time.

No difference between this and my orginal Canon charger (which I managed to loose), apart from the lack of "Canon" logo and the very much lower price!

Build quality the same. Have used this now for a year and very happy with it.

Just got the camera and it takes high quality pictures.But unless you run an IT department and enjoy spending a hour or more fussing with wifi and computer networks, forget the wifi set up. Very complicated, difficult and time-consuming,Plus Canon was too cheap to include a hook up cable for the camera to your computer. Grrrrrrrrhh.

Five stars, probably best in the sub $100 category maybe even better than most in the sub $150-175 for general snap shots. I saw it at Walmart for $99 dollars.This camera is a very good camera and by the amount of reviews and the star rating you probably already know that. This one is discontinued now but you can still find it. Grab it while you can, even if you have more expensive cameras, this can be the one you can throw in a backpack, your car, work truck and not worry about.

The cover fits perfectly and I very much enjoy having the cord to make sure it stays attached. It takes the worry out of loosing it again.

I purchased this camera for my teenager to take to Europe. You just would not believe the beautiful quality pictures that he was able to take. A professional photographer mention that he thought the pictures were taken with an expensive multi- lens camera.Slips easily into a day bag too!!

I have a G11 and was excited to get the G15 but I was surprised when it arrived with just paper wrapping the camera box, when I tried to use the camera I couldn't even set it up as it kept shutting down every few seconds, I managed to change the shut down time to 3 mins but it still shut down in seconds. I asked for a refund and sent it back in a proper box. The vendor said her tech team went over it and said it was fine and she was sending it back to me, I said if it does work then fine but I don't want to have to send it back again. Some time went by and I got an email saying she had lost my address, that did it, I didn't feel comfortable doing business with her as she seemed very unprofessional so I told her this and wanted a refund, she went off on me for this and I had to call Amazon who straightened it out and I did get my refund.

had it for years, it's still great! use it for convention photos and vacations. Does burn through batteries like crazy. Two double A's are good for 20 photos or so.

For the price this camera takes fab images.Great zoom. Easy controls. Canon image quality. Impressed for the price. Zoom is awesome.

this canon sx160-IS is a replacement for my non-working sx110-IS, it is more advanced than my older model but I believe I will be extremely pleased with its performance. The instruction booklet and the DVD that were inclosed will be a great help. thanks

Half of the time when starting up I get a "memory card error". Although it starts up ok the next time, it could mean I miss my shot. Very annoying.

This was a very carefully made choice for a very special Christmas present. When the box was opened there was no interface cable and no CD to upload pics to computer (even though the booklet contained in the box says these are included). I sent an email to the Seller only to get the response that they have no interface cables. I have been shopping with Amazon for many years and will continue to do so, but I will NEVER purchase another item fulfilled by DavisMAX!! Now, in order to complete this gift I have to try to find an interface cable and CD.....

My wife and I often want two cameras so that we can both take pictures when we're apart. We had two DSLRs until one failed beyond repair. We got by without a second camera for a year. Then our telephoto lens failed on the remaining DSLR one week before a long trip. We decided that a compact camera would be a good complement to our DSLR once the lens was repaired. I was quite worried that I would find the image quality sub-par compared to our DSLR, but we purchased the G15 thinking we could function as closely as possible to our Canon DSLRs. I am very pleased with the results of my first 1000 pictures. It actually performs better than my DSLR in low light (my newest DSLR is probably six years old). Great compact camera with the controls of a DSLR.

Only used once so far, seems to do what it's supposed to do.
Pleased with speed of delivery.
Nothing negative to add.
