Purchased from 17th Street Photo, via Amazon, the camera could have been shipped faster. It showed as being in stock, but it took 6 days (4 business days) before it was shipped.
One thing that can be offered with this product is a case. This is a product that you want around for a long time so having a case offered with the purchase would be an added bonus and a sure way to protect the camera from scratches, etc.
Thank you for a wonderful product!

I evenutally decided on the Canon Powershot A580 and I am really glad I did. Purchased online from Amazon.co.uk and delivered within two days along with a 2GB memory disk and carrier pouch.
My main worry initially was the batteries. My first camera, a Nikon Coolpix 2100 was horrendous, good little camera but seemed to go through batteries(rechargeables) very very fast and was very frustrating. The Pentax was reasonably ok but I was concerned when I read the Canon used alkaline batteries, but so far so good.
We went on a Med cruise end of August which is why I wanted a replacement camera and I was very happy with this camera. So far original batteries still going strong and very happy with the pics I took.
Also process of transferring pics from camera to PC appears to be easy and straight forward so would thoroughly recommend this camera for ease of use and reasonable cost and good picture quality.

If you are looking for a digital camera with more zoom than 5X, the SX 10 IS is the one. You will have 20X, Video mode in just a button, snapshot while filming, zoom while filming. Picture quality is superb, a lot of modes, like Auto, you just point and shoot, Manual, you perform your own scenario, and a lot more. If you like to make close-ups, the Macro mode is unique, you can put the object at the lens 0cm, and works perfect.
If I had to change something, I would give the lens more aperture, it comes with 2.8-5.7, I would like 2.8-4.5.
Go for it.

In the meantime, if you are going to spend $200+ on a camera, there are certainly ones better than this. I would take a little time and do some research - but the Kodak EasyShare is definitely a better buy.
Since I already owned a Canon Powershot A630 which has proven a very reliable piece of equipment, I suggested hom the same or the next generation for this camera. Unfortunately the budget was not enough and I had to go through an extensive research so he could have a good camera for not more than USD250.
This is what I looked for:
8+ Megapixels
10X optical zoom
Aperture and shutter priority
Buit-in flash.
Video recording
Ease of use (this should come first as primary requirement)
Light weight
low battery consuption (I didn't want him compplainig for battery life)
At least 1/2.5 sensor size. I've proven that picture quality loos can be easily noticed with smaller sensors.
This camera meets or exceeds most of my requirements for a not-so-low budget equipment. It's fast, reliable and the picture quality is very good for a non professional user.
I strongly reccomend the Canon PowerShot SX100IS is you don't have USD350 for your home use camera.

I noticed after having it a few days though, it has developed a CLUNK as I tip it forward and back. I can almost feel it behind the scroll wheel. It's not the batteries or card, so I'm wondering if it was there the whole time? or if something came loose on the insides.
Does anyone else have this issue? By the way, it's about 3 times louder than the side to side click you get from the mechanism that knows which way to turn the photo on the screen while reviewing.
I am giving this as gifts to my cousins and they love it.
The lighting on the LCD screen is great for both pictures and video. The camera can take up to a maximum 4MB SD Card which is fine for my son to make short videos and edit them on a computer. It's also nice having the option of using the LCD screen or the "old school" view finder to take the picture. I would have given this a 5 star rating if the outer casing was made of metal instead of plastic. I hope it will hold up for an 11 year old boy.
All in all my son and I are both very happy with it and it is very easy for him to use and thumb his way through the internal software.
One other wonderful thing about these cameras is that people have figured out how to hack the firmware. Don't worry, it won't break anything, and the new firmware sits on the SD card; remove the card, and the camera reverts back to factory stock. Just Google "canon a580 firmware."
I use the new firmware to tell the camera to automatically take three photos in a sequence, with one 2 stops down, one on the money, and one 2 stops up. Using commonly-available software, you get some remarkable results--just like the uber-expensive Canon and Nikon bodies deliver.
If you are looking for a very good, simple camera this is it. We have used Canon for years and have yet to be disappointed.
Overall, from first impressions, this seems like another excellent camera from one of the best manufacturers, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
It takes great pictures, even at night or indoors or concerts.
it's smaller than other comparable cameras.
it has auto settings, but it also has a great range of manual settings
a couple reasons I picked this particular camera are that:
it takes regular SD cards, which are getting really cheap(no Sony pro-stick or anything crazy.)I paid 15 bucks for an 8 gig card on amazon
it uses aa batteries. That's great because good rechargeables are fairly inexpensive and we can keep several sets ready to go. And if we are out somewhere and run out, we can snag some alkalines anywhere
My only dislike is that it can take a while to process a picture if the lighting isn't perfect
(1) The cammera is significantly larger and heavier than the S2. And it is bit of a pain since I cannot reuse my old S2 camera case.
(2) The SX10 comes with a clip-on lens cap which is pretty finicky to put on in comparison to the S2 plastic lens cap which I can easily and quickly slap on to the lens housing. Furthermore, while the S2 cap comes with a string to be attached to the camera body. That is not the case with the SX10. So I can see losing my lens cap pretty soon.
(3) The inside grip on the S2 is kind of sanded so it can be gripped firmly. The grip on the SX10 is smooth and a bit slippery. It does not offer me as firm and confident a grip as the S2, particularly when the camera is heavier. May be it will become less slippery with time.
Other than the above, good camera.
Ive used it for 2 years, and im not a pro with reviewing camera spec, but i would definitely recommend it.
The one major problem is that the lense is easily broken, Ive had mine fixed before after getting a tiny bit of sand in it, its broken again atm as I cant get the lense to come back out and its displaying an error. Hence being on looking for a new camera :)
I would def recommend it but make sure you get insurance! The lens is likely to be have issue if you use it alot!
