I have had this camera for years. Really no zoom what so ever. Pictures are graining if you zoom at all. Some times the lense will not fully open. This camera is strictly for beginners. I have really not seen another camera that doesn't take better pictures. For the price you can do better. Also, it seems the reviews for cameras on Amazon are dependent on the level of experience of the users. No way is this a 4.5 Star Camera. I see much better camera's getting lower ratings. Take the ratings with a grain of salt. And stay away from this camera. Cameras have improved since this one was released.

the item looked good and arrived earlier than expected. unfortunately it did not fit and it had to be returned to seller. refund was no problem. I only rated it ok,because tit was never used nor do i have any negative feedback.

I have to admit, I'm a point and shoot type of person who likes a small digital camera that I can carry in the pocket of my jeans or in my purse so it's always handy. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a camera and have to spend hundreds on extra lenses. My Casio camera serves me just fine in many circumstances. I take a lot of people pictures and pictures at parties and get-togethers. But there were always those times when I was in a beautiful location and wanted something that would do a good job with pictures of mountains, lakes and other landscape features. Or I wanted to take a photo of our Christmas tree at night with the lights in a dark room and I just could never really capture the shot. I often wanted to take pictures of the squirrels or a woodpecker on the tree but with a 3x optical zoom you just can't get "up close and personal". This camera will do all that and more. It will also do automatic, point and shoot photos, just like my little point and shoot camera.

I hate to read manuals and instructions. But with this camera it's something you just have to set aside some time and pretty much read through the well organized little manual that comes with it. It's easy enough reading and well organized with references to page numbers describing each feature and cross referenced well. Perhaps someone with experience on other SLR cameras or more complicated cameras would find this camera intuitive, but I had to sit down a study a bit before really getting into all the features. Once I had the camera set up and tried the different features and settings it was easy enough to do, but there is a little learning curve. The good news is there are many more things I can do with this camera than I ever imagined.

With other cameras I've owned I could take macro photos of things like flowers or food. With this camera I can take a super macro of not only the flower, but the bee on the flower and the hair on his legs! With other cameras low light photos were just so-so. With this camera you can take photos in very low light which I find myself using more and more, now that I have a camera that will handle it. The 20x zoom is nothing short of amazing. This is great for taking photos of outdoor critters or spying on your neighbor's gardener. It's almost like having a pair of binoculars and being able to capture it on digital film. You can take great movies with stereo sound. It's so much easier than getting out the video camera every time you want to take a short movie of the dog doing something cute or your neighbor's kid doing something stupid. There are some special scene settings that are a quick way of setting up the camera for different types of photos. I've had very good results using these and look at all the different circumstances they cover: You have settings for portraits, landscape, night scenes or snapshots, sports, indoor, sunsets, foliage, snow, beach, fireworks (can't wait to try this one out), aquarium, ISO 3200, color accent and color swap.

The flip-out and rotating 2.5-inch LCD screen is a feature I love and I haven't seen it on any other camera in this class. It makes it simple to see what you're taking from any angle and is nice because you can tilt it out of the sun. I find all the buttons, built in flash and controls easy to use and I can re-set it quickly for different types of circumstances. I really like the stitch assist for taking panorama shots that I can later stitch together on my computer into one wide panoramic image. There are so many more settings and things that you can do, just too many to list here.

The camera will definitely not fit in the pocket of my jeans but the weight and size aren't bad. I bought the Carrying Case / Shoulder Bag for the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi, PowerShot S5 IS, Powershot SX1 IS, SX10 IS case which is perfect for this camera. I'm posting a short video showing the case and just a few features of the camera. It's too bad I couldn't use this camera to take the video. The close-ups would have been a lot clearer than what I could do with my video camera. I thought of including some photos taken with the camera on the video, but with the compression needed to fit the videos on this website the wouldn't do them justice. Even the photos posted by other reviewers on this site, as amazing as they are, look even better when you see them on your own computer or printed.

I did a lot of research on cameras and then I hesitated for a long time, wondering if I would use it enough to justify the cost. I shouldn't have waited. This is an amazing camera and one that will keep me happy for a long, long time.

I am pleased with the camera.There are a few things that kinda threw me at first the camera has no internal memory so must have a memory card in order to take pictures.It was bought as refurbished and there was no card in the box it was listed on the contents list. After getting a card I was able to take pictures. I have not tried printing yet. The camera is a little more complicated than a Point n shoot type .So if you have problems with stuff like that dont get this camera . I have no problems with this camera and really like it so far.I have had it less than a month and have not had much chance to play around with it.

I was going to take this item back as I did not see the difference between the g15 and g12. However I took the camera on a cruise and discovered how well it performed when I returned and seemed to be doing less editing in my iPhoto. Either I'm getting better, or the camera was spot on. And I did not always use auto. I also used the video and was impressed by the videos I got when we were going through the Panama Canal. I feel like I'm back there it is so life like. I definitely would recommend the camera. Only once did I miss the articulated screen.

I can not say enough great things about this Canon digital camera. It's by far the best small camera that I have ever owned. I took a photo of a full moon and people could not believe how I was able to zoom in with is camera. I highly recommend it.

I loved this camera and has upgraded to a 10 megapixels ever since. This camera was light, compact and reliable with the software and energy efficient on the disposable batteries. I miss the a/v video connectors this model had, but I got the benefit of rechargeable battery on the new model that now I own. this camera is still good for an amateur photographer and you will find the used at a reasonable price nowadays.

This unit replaces my Canon Powershot G7 which served me well for years. I hesitated in upgrading the G7 for years because the improvement margin just didn't justify the expenditure. The G15's video quality is amazing and the photos remain excellent in this model. I have a Nikon D-5100 and love it, but this fills the bill for a quality "little bother" to take along for lighter trips. There are enough advanced/manual shooting adjustments to satisfy serious DSLR photographers when they can't, or don't want to lug all their DSLR equipment with them.

I got this camera for Christmas a few years ago and loved it. I'd developed a hobby out of photography with a little Kodak point and shoot that I had before, but I was wanting to go to a higher level in my photography. This camera is a great camera for beginners for several reasons:
1) It takes awesome pictures on auto. I used the auto setting almost all the time I used this camera.
2) It has lots of preset modes, such as portrait, landscape, sport, macro, and night portrait. And if you go to scene mode there are about 10 others! One I thought was really cool is a feature that lets you select a color in your photo and it takes the shades of that color and turns everything else black and white. The macro and super macro settings take amazing pictures!!
3) It's a great step between point-and-shoots and SLRs. There are custom modes you can experiment with, and there is more room for creativity because there are more settings to choose from than there are in the majority of point-and-shoot cameras.
4) The overall image quality I found to be better than point and shoots I've used.

Other great qualities:

I absolutely loved the swivel screen. I'm pretty short so it helped a lot when I wanted to hold the camera up and get a shot from higher than eye level. It's also great for getting pictures at ground level and all different angles. I would suggest that when you're storing the camera and when you're carrying it to turn the screen so that the screen part faces in toward the camera body. I didn't do that and I have some smudge-like scratches on mine now.

The video was something I really liked. I got a dSLR recently that does not have video and I have really missed it. The video quality isn't great, but it's still really nice to have.

The 10 megapixels make great pictures. My camera before that had 6.1 and the dSLR I got has 6 and I miss the 10 megapixels. I could take a picture, crop it quite a bit in Photoshop, and the image would still be very crisp.

If you're considering this over an SLR, keep in mind that this camera will not give you the control that an SLR will. It is much more difficult to manually focus. But if you're not quite ready to spend the money on lenses and things, this is a great choice!

This product is sold as a lens cover and lens tether combo. The tether portion has a small adhesive dot to attach to the lens cover. However, there is no flat surface on the lens cover sufficient to attach the tether.

To be fair, this is not my camera. It is our school's, and I was assigned the job of taking photos of a teacher teaching her class. I immediately put fresh batteries in the camera. But after a mere 40 or so flash shots, the battery icon is flashing low battery! Also, after each flash, it says the flash is recharging and you have to wait til it's recharged (maybe 5-7 seconds). Of course, while it's flash is recharging, you are missing shots. UGH!

Coming from the Sony HX-5V i'm really impressed.Close to my EOS 40D (Rebel in the US) in regards to shutter and stuff like that, easy to use with a very good AUTO-mode and very flexible if you're a advanced user. Like the ability to change settings without going through 100s of menus, just by turning the wheel.Very handy - usage of the Flash from my EOSGreat piece of technology (and for us Europeans quite cheap 499$ vs. 599€, almost half in US than in Europe)M.

Not a pro by any means but this camera is just great, lovely pictures, great zoom without distorting the picture. One little gripe, doesn't come with a camera case, had to buy one from ASDA for £10. Apart from that would say a great buy for the money, fast delivery also, got within 3 days.

The only thing wrong really, is that the record button is too near the edge, and I keep pressing it by mistake. Apart from that, I would say this is an excelent camera.

This camera is pretty ok. It takes terrible shots of my daughter because she it always moving. It smears with even the slightest movement. It is really only good for still photos and it is awesome at that, so keep that in mind. I bought it on a lightning deal so I don't feel screwed.

I was aiming the G12 or a Nikon 3100 when this one came, one month previous to my trip and changed all my plans.I am no photography pro, but loves photos and this was elected my entry level camera to start studying photography.It fits prefectly the hand,s but not to heavy. Honestly, I'd rather go for a lighter camera than with a one with articulated LCD.The sensor is amaziong. F/1.8 definetly makes a huge diiference, took amazing pictures in Vegas at night with no flash that were perfect. And the battery, amazing. more then 450 pictures, with LCD on and no flash,Indeed expensive, but worth every cent.

While mobile phones now do much of what this camera can do, you may find it hard to carry this as an additional point & shoot, it's still great as a stand-alone product and I would recommend it for this kind of everyday purpose. It takes reasonably well-lit, focused pictures in regular and macro mode, and does so with colors that feel natural.

I bought to replace the lens cap I lost because it didn't have the leash strap. With this lens cap I don't have to worry about loosing it because the leash strap keeps it attached to the camera.

I have been using this camera for about a month now. It takes great pictures with little thought. I wanted a camera I did not have to constantly adjust or fiddle with the buttons and menu. After the initial setup I have to do very little to get a great picture. Love its light weight and portability. I would buy this camera again. Love it.
