Ok, this is a low cost printer. My high dollar one just died an ugly death and I left it at the shop with 10 new ink cartridges on the table it would not recognize, including 5 pricey Canons. I, dazed, went to Walmart and bought the MX 340 thinking if it didn't satisfy, very likely, I could always take it back. I had had my fill of trying to figure out printers, I just wanted something that would copy, print, and scan. Is that too much to ask?You will not get a thorough, scientific, techno-savvy review from me. I like those kinds, but I'm not really up to it. Besides, all I care about is "Does the printer do what it is supposed to?"I didn't mention that I replaced my high dollar computer first with a "mint" printer off eBay that never, in eight or ten hours of trying, made one decent color copy. This beauty cost $55 with shipping, then I bought $40 worth of cartridges for it. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch!So, here I am faced with another impossible situation with a printer. Surely this $70 machine, which includes cartridges, will be nothing but a pain in the, er, butt.Not so! In less than 10 minutes I made a wonderful color copy. In less than 30 minutes I had it plugged into my computer (even tho wireless, I went the USB route) and I was making copies from the computer. Later on I tried the scan. This is a machine for the dumbest of dummies. This is a machine for the battle scarred and the brain weary.Does it copy or scan or print from the computer like an el cheapo? No. Nice, nice, nice. My new Canon Pixma MX 340 sits there like a miniwork horse. I got a huge Lexmark b/w laser next to it, a big workhorse. Yeh. My cup runnith over with printers, now. I'm good.You want something that will do a job of all-in-one printing for you? Don't think because it doesn't cost much that the MX 340 is cheap. It's built solid. It does the job. Right now I wouldn't trade it for any "mint" printer on eBay. By the way, the specs for speed on the MX 340 do not read very good, but in actuality I have no problem with color or b/w speed. From my POV, this is a great printer.

I like everything about this printer except the print quality...certainly not fine art quality as was true with the I9900 I loved...but I outsource my fine art printing now anyway...a good printer for the price...if one lowers his expectations a bit.

Because the magenta ink cartridge ran out it now won't let me even print in black and white or send a black-and-white fax or make a black-and-white photocopy. I purchased new magenta ink, and the problem persists-maybe it's the wrong ink cartridge, even though I specifically brought the old ink cartridge into the shop to make sure I got the correct replacement. I hate this big ugly machine which takes up too much space, takes too long, and which has caused me two trips to Kinko's so far to spend $22 faxing documents.

We've had this Canon Pixma MX882 printer for almost a year, and we consistently have problems getting it to print. When printing multiple documents, it frequently "pauses" itself, and won't print the documents unless you delete all but one and then resume printing. Very annoying.The scanning capabilities are also limited; it scans pages very slowly, maybe 4 pages/minute? Not a good experience, and we won't buy another Canon printer.

This is one of the best all around functional printer/copier/scanner I've come across. I love the fact that you can scan or print MULTIPLE pages at a time both front and back without having to stand there and had feed each one or turn them over. Printing copies from a scanned document come out crisp and clear. The Duplexer function is also a real plus. Had the unit for almost a year now with NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.One comment, to reduce possibility of extra sheets going running through at the same time, fan the paper before putting it in the rear feed, and this is especially true the higher brightness and pound paper you use.Whether you have a home office or small office, this is a great addition to your set up.I too, wish it wasn't GLOSS black, but I put a pillow case over the top to keep dust from settling on it.

Despite reading a few harsh reviews, I decided to give the printer a try.Now keep in mind. My last printer was a cheapo hp from the local Walmart that worked for two days and then never again even with all the replacements they sent etc.Sooo I get the box, it's brand new as promised. As I start unpacking it I keep thinking there is no way this big hunk of a machine is going to be quiet, or handle all the printing I want to do.Set up was a breeze. Took no time at all to install everything and get two laptops in line to work with it.So I took a biiiiig deep breath and tried to decide what to print first. My 6 year old begged for some coloring pages and I figured that would do just fine.I found a pic clicked print, and was blown away. Not only by the quickness of it but by the fact that, yes it made noise when it first was catching the paper, but then was near silent as it printed.We have printed about 20 pictures of all different sizes, countless coloring pages, forms to enroll for school, the list goes on and on. Not one issue yet.So far it has handled everything with ease (even with my two young kittens playing on it at night) and with all that printing the ink levels are still like new.I couldn't be happier with this printer and while I'll keep ya updated, at this moment I would recommend it to anyone! <3***Update***It's now March 2012 and I am just now running low on ink! This printer is amazing! I have printed out to many things to count and have yet to have an issue with it. And in the last few months this poor thing has had water damage, cats chewing and playing on it, kids playing with it, things dropped on it, etc.I would still have to say that I would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a good home printer. It is an amazing deal for the price! :)

I've owned this printer/copier/scanner/fax for about two months now. For the money it is great. I wanted a machine that was made to print great photos as well as perform decently with it's other functions. I'm not disappointed!! It makes great photos and the software that comes with it is excellent! The customer service is great and they give you 1 year of free phone help if you need it. It uses good ink at an average rate. It has a virtual owners manual which is clear and thorough. I like the design as well as the control panels. It's easy to use after a short learning curve. It's kinda large and heavy but that's because of all of the sturdy components it uses. I'm not using it wirelessly so I can't comment on that. This is a huge jump in quality over those $75-100 machines out there. There's very little maintainence required and you can do it easily. I've done a cost analyses of printing my own photos as oppossed to using CVS/Walmart and it comes out about the same. The big advantage to printing yourself is that you have complete control of the end result. And it's fun! The machine makes noises like R2D2 (Star Wars)while it's booting up for the task. I know that this printer got mixed reviews but I got this one anyway because the negative reviews were too picky over trivial stuff. Amazon was the least expensive for the machine and for the ink. But check around. I've really have nothing bad to say about it and am looking forward to a few years of happy use. Remember that it doesn't come with a USB cable (for wired set-up)or a router (for wireless set up). They don't tell you that anywhere. They're letting you decide which way you're going.

I was looking for a scanner that was able to turn my documents into PDF searchable documents. After trying one stand alone scanner and another all-in-one machine that were supposedly doing this very well, I found that this scanner was superior to them in outputting better quality both of the images and of the text.First, I tested the speed of the scanner. This machine was able to scan and save a 25 page document in about 2 1/2 minutes which was slightly slower (about 20 seconds) than the scanner that cost $400. In addition, it was just as quiet and did not take any more time to warm up.Second I tested the quality of the PDF readable function by randomly searching on words - I used a tax return that has a lot of different fonts, lines, numbers, etc. Although the Cannon was not perfect (the software could find about 80% of the text), it did a much better job than the stand alone machine (about 60% of the text was readable).In addition, when I ran the documents through my PDF converter software (I have Nuance) to see if I could get improvements, I found that yes, the PDF converter improved the text from both scanners but the Cannon end result was superior to the one from the other scanner. The converter took the document from Cannon from 80% readable to 95% readable whereas the document from the stand alone scanner, although improved, continued to have some major problems in recognizing text and lines.The scanner did not come with additional software, just what I need to quickly start, name and save my files to the proper area of my computer without fuss. The other scanners put so much stuff on my computer, it was ridiculous. I did have to try different settings but I finally found the way to scan quickly and correctly so that once I hit the start button, the rest is done automatically and well.I am using this machine as a scanner only so I can't comment on the print quality.

Wireless printers than can be shared on a home or office network have gotten much better in the past few years, and this Canon is an excellent example of an All-in-One inkjet that works just as fast as a wired printer. It prints regular documents and photos, scans, copies, and faxes, all in a single machine.The paper tray holds approximately 135 sheets, so if you print a lot, you might be better off with the Epson WorkForce 840 Wireless All-in-One, which holds 500 sheets, but this Canon feels both sturdier and more compact than the Epson.It's relatively easy to set up using the supplied instructions. I wish Canon made it easier by installing the print head at the factory; although it isn't difficult to do, that step irked me since I didn't have to do it on my Epson or my HP. The inks are included -- three color cartridges (#226), a black photo ink (also #226), and a black document ink (#225.) The ink cartridges seem smaller than my HP Photosmart ones, although I can't tell you how they compare in terms of actual amount. I recommend shopping around to find a good source of brand-name inks. Don't bother with generics. I had the printer up and running about ten minutes after I opened the box -- on the network, configured for faxes, and stocked with paper and ink.For wireless use, you must install the software on each machine that will use the printer. For initial set-up to get the printer on your network, you'll need to know the network security password, but after that, you just need to configure the settings on each computer. Once that's done, you can print wirelessly from anywhere in the network, on both Macs and PCs. I was astounded by how quickly this worked, even from the other side of the house.I highly recommend this printer. It's the best of the Canon wireless All-in-One line. Some of the other models don't have all four functions (print, scan, copy, fax), so make sure you look carefully to see which one is best for you.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

I do quite a bit of printing, both text documents and some light, full-color design documents (brochures, gift certificates, etc.), and have had trouble finding a printer that meets both needs adequately and that doesn't leave me running to the store for new ink every few days. I have gravitated toward laser printers with the last couple I've owned partly because of price, but when my last Konica died on me I went for this Canon when I saw it in the store on sale. I also liked it could make copies and fax as well.I've had this for more than a month now and have just finished printing out some certificates on heavy metallic card stock that my old laser printer simply couldn't handle--nor could the local Kinko's in their copy machines. They came out perfectly, with no bending or smudging (although duplex didn't work well for this paper). The duplex feature is a huge paper saver for regular printing, and printing is very fast. One of the other nice things about this printer is that loading paper makes sense--if you're using the rear tray to load special paper, it prints how you would think it should when loading the paper. I haven't seen that with most other printers I have owned, where it takes a process of trial and error to realize how to load paper if you want to print on the other side.The printer also has a sturdier feel than competitors in its price range and feels more solidly built, without flimsy plastic trays and covers that can stick out and get broken. So far the ink seems to hold out pretty well, which is another plus.

After trying to keep my old DELL printer going (having to feed single sheets of paper at a time, moving it to work with it, expensive ink etc.) this Canon wireless has made my life sooooo much easier. I was concerned about how difficult it might have been to it up on our wireless network and it was very easy. Two laptops, an HP and a DELL, along with my son's MAC are all using the printer without any problems. No paper jams, no having to move the printer to connect a USB cord and I'm happy that the ink cartridges are reasonably priced and unlike the DELL printer, does not use a massive amount of ink to print an alignment page when new cartridges are loaded. So far all is good.

DO NOT BUY!! The printer is advertised to support a WiFi connection. We found this to not be the case. About 1% of the time the printer would communicate with our laptop, but mostly we'd have to get on the desktop with a wired connection and a flashdrive to get it to print what the printer failed at with the laptop. The ink runs out REALLY quick. And if the Black ink is empty but colored ink is not, the printer will not print anything, even if no black is used. And vice versa. The wired connection couldn't even produce scanned images on my desktop. Since day 1 with this thing I've had to plug my flashdrive into the printer itself, scan documents, and then move the flashdrive to my desktop to get them on there. It's supposed to be able to print photos. It does, but extremely poor quality only. Photos printed out on photo paper look like they were printed on regular paper, and photos printed on regular paper look even worse. DO NOT BUY!

After about a week and a half of use (a few pages of text, a single photo and a couple of scans) the unit died. Wouldn't power on. Amazon let me return it for a replacement, which arrived the next day (five stars, Amazon).I'm giving the printer the benefit of the doubt that I just had a defective unit...The one photo I printed was spectacular. The scans were good. Installation on Mac OS X Lion was a breeze (though you need newer drivers than those that ship with the unit, and newer drivers than those that are available from Apple's software update).Installation of the five ink cartridges and print head was a snap. Just take your time and make sure the LED for each tank is lit when you snap them in place and you're golden.The printer takes about five minutes to clean and align itself when new cartridges are put in.WiFi set up without a hitch on my Airport Extreme network.It is *not* an AirPrint-capable printer, so printing from iOS (iPad/iPod/iPhone) isn't natively supported. There is a Canon app for printing photos, but it doesn't provide any other printing capability. Apple can step it up with AirPrint by including more drivers with iOS (point being, that it's a shared responsibility between Apple and Canon).I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of direct faxing capabilities from Mac OS X. That would be super sweet, though it's probably a capability I'd only use sporadically anyway.All and all, it's a big step up from the Epson NX420 (both in quality AND size) that I got as a freebie with my iMac purchase. Let's hope the ink lasts longer! Text printing is far superior on the Canon MX882.

The radioshack guy told me it was "impossible to find a magical cord to print from your macbook to a normal, non-mac printer". Obviously there are so many things wrong with that statement that just proved he had NO idea what he was talking about.Bottom line is this cord is that "magical" cord I needed and it works perfectly.

We bought this printer for home and grade school use after our previous printer ran out of steam. The physical footprint of this printer is bigger than I expected, but that's no problem given the print quality and speed. Colors are excellent for school projects and the occasional photo. For multi-page work documents the speed is great. Recommended.

I bought this 3-in-1 product about a year ago and it worked well, but slowly, for the first six months. Then it thought it had a paper jam that would not be resolved. I checked diligently several times with a flashlight for the elusive shred of paper and found nothing. I followed the advice of the instruction manual, a few forums, and the Canon call center, but nothing cleared the alleged jam. Now I have to haul this boat anchor to the thrift shop, hoping some tech saavy person will repair it so it doesn't add to the dump. Ink cartridges are expensive too--about $21 for black only. Save yourself a headache. Don't even think about buying this product.

Pro:Duplex Print and Scan at this costAmazing Photo Print Quality (Make sure use Canon Photo Paper.Easy to replace ink, it has led that help you to swap the ink.Text quality is very good better than most inkjet.Cons:Scan could had been better,not idea to scan image.Bulky Design, the paper tray is small.Not as good looking as previous year model, use pure plastics.Little bit of color smudge if print using typical paper it need time to dry.Ink drain kinda quick, 2 black color is confusing at fist.I paid close to just $100 this so is definite a very good printer for the money, is probably does print better photo than any sub $150 printer out there. I had use Epson all in one before return and grab this, Epson shine in the scanning department, amazing job of scan image gave you lots of option and details. but failed in the most basic. Such as Typical print text and image. The text quality is not sharp at all, color quality isn't good either. Canon has improve all area from the epson except the scan function. Suggest get the color pack with the photo paper on it is about $50 and the other black is seperate sold about $15 more is confusing, should had been together. $60+ for total inks is not bad especially consider it gave you very good color quality.

I received this a couple of days ago. Setup was simple, and I was printing and scanning within 20 minutes. The print quality is fantastic, and the scan looks every bit as good as the original.I connected the printer to my laptop via a USB hub, so have no comment on the wireless setup, tho' I was slightly disappointed to read that it doesn't support an "ad-hoc" connection -- directly from laptop to printer. You apparently need a wireless router. This wasn't an issue for me at all, as the USB connection is fine for my needs.One "surprise" feature that I didn't know I was getting is that the primary/standard paper feed is from a tray underneath the unit. It's simple to load a stack of standard paper in there and it feeds perfectly. The big advantage for ME is that I can then close off the back-of-the-printer paper feeder, protecting the printer from dust (I have mine set up in an aircraft hangar) and humidity (which tended to curl the paper in earlier back-feeding printers). With the paper flat and sealed in the bottom tray, it will STAY flat. (The back feed is for custom paper, like the occasional photo paper feed.)The printer look and feel -- inclding a big color LCD and backlit buttons -- suggests that it should cost $400 or more. I'm amazed that it can sell for $150.All in all, very satisfied.

I needed a printer to replace my HP 5440 which was outdated for my new desktop pc which uses Windows 7. Since I was in the market for a new printer I decided to opt for an all-in-one model(scanner, fax, copy, print). I have had the Canon Pixma MX420 for approximately a month now and have used all facets of the machine. It is such a time saver to have the ability to use all of these functions from home rather than running out to fax or copy items.... love it! The machine is somewhat noisy when starting up but works great... the color quality is not as sharp as my HP was but is acceptable for my home use. I was contemplating getting an Epson model but read that the Epson all-in-one only had outgoing fax capabilities and not incoming fax capabilities. It was easy to set up however I did have my cable provider guide me as to how to hook up the phone line properly...all of which was a two minute fix... everything is now running smoothly and I am really liking it alot! I think this is a great printer for a home office!

Great product - ink is pretty cheap, quality is good, it does everything scan, print, photo, copy etc. One problem i have learned/noticed. You cannot Scan if your out of ink and i cannot find a way to circumvent it. This is really annoying as i just ran out of ink and am moving and just need to scan and send some documents. BUT i CANT because the damn thing wont let me do anything until i replace the ink. I have tried taking the ink out, and putting it back in and just leaving it out. no matter what it wont let me scan before i buy ink which is pretty stupid.

I loved this printer. Stylish, with a small footprint. Worked with my now-ancient 2007 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5.8. It was a little noisy, but that seemed to be the trade-off for the way it performed. It was a wonderful little workhorse, and did everything from scanning to photocopying and printing. Up until it hit the six month mark, that is.As of 11/24/11 it has stopped working. The paper tray keeps jamming and refusing to feed in paper correctly. We have done everything we can think of to fix it from getting the printer to go through its "self clean" functions to trying all the troubleshooting suggestions in the user's manual to cleaning the paper feed rollers and print heads with compressed air and checking manually for any kinds of blockages. We could send it back to the manufacturer since it's technically still under warranty but it would cost us half of the original cost to ship it there and back. (Unfortunately we didn't purchase this item from Amazon).I hate that it stopped working after six months, but what I hate even more is the thought that it will most likely sit in landfill for who knows how long just because it's a shoddy product. Having to replace products so soon into their life because of faulty or bad build quality is ludicrous. I'd happily pay more for a printer I knew that would last me longer than six months.

In my experience, inkjet printers are finicky and prone to fail. Maybe because there are lots of moving parts. Maybe because price is a big issue with buyers and manufacturers go too far to lower the cost. Based upon reviews, the MX882 seemed like a good choice and, for 6 months, I was very pleased. My only complaint was that it went through ink cartridges quickly in spite of my low level of use.This morning, I got an error message when printing. It told me to turn the printer off and then on. After doing that a number of times, I realized the printer was dead. (I would get the error as the printer turned on.) Rather than go through the hassle (expense, time and frustration) to deal with a warranty repair, I decided to return the printer to Costco. (There is a lesson to be learned about that but I will not say more on this web site.)I offer my experience for what it is worth. I did not see anyone else with the dead printer problem. Although a number of people complain about ink usage. Maybe my experience is a fluke.

After reading different Amazon reviews on several printers, I decided on this Canon Wireless printer. I thought for sure I'd have problems setting it up because I'm not great at setting up computer hardware, but the set up procedures were easy to follow. I was delighted when it worked the first time. Easier yet was connecting my laptop and son's computer to print wirelessly also. I've had the printer working for 3 months now, and have not had any problems. I have not used the fax on it yet, but the scanner works well and produces very good quality copies.

Великолепно

I really wasn't sure about this product seeing as how I've never owner anything Canon product. But I was really surprised with the quality and the performance.I'm very very pleased.

I have been unable to wireless connect this printer to my macbook air, despite following the directions as carefully as I could. Now it has stopped printing from flash drives, due to irresolvable formatting problems. In fairness, it does connect with my wife's computer.

I love that I can be on one floor and wirelessly print to my printer in the basement. Has made all the difference.

I have owned many printers in the past few years and all of them are no longer working. This printer is sturdy, runs well, its wireless and I have never had an issue. You do have to turn it on if you want to send something to print, unlike some that will turn on automatically. The price is reasonable and the ink lasts for quite sometime. The replacements are average around 20 bucks but better than the dells. the dells would run out of ink faster and cost more. Go for it, its a great printer!

I've had this printer for 3 years, and only print a few times a month. Has went through 3 sets of ink, and replaced with canon brand ink only. It worked good up until it gave me an error e200, and said I had to send it into the repair center. I couldn't use the scanning or anything, and no matter what I did it would not get rid of the error. I replaced the ink about 2 months before I got this error, and had printed successfully the day before. I researched the error and it seems to be an overheated print head, usually caused by running too low on ink, but all my ink cartridges were full or almost full.

I bought this device as my first Canon multifunction device (I had a small, portable Canon printer about 15 years ago that was great). I replaced a 2 year old HP Photosmart device that never worked right, so much so that I am boycotting HP, likely for life. This Canon device has been wonderful! It has WiFi, ethernet and USB connections, all of which are straightforward (I use WiFi so that my family and I can print photos or documents from our Android or Apple smart phones - works great). The quality is incredible, and it doesn't churn through ink like my HP did; thus, it is very affordable. I was concerned, in fact, because it was so inexpensive, thinking it might be a cheap piece of junk, but it is not! I highly recommend this device. It is both a flatbed and a multi-sheet scanner, a "real" fax (no Internet faxing like the HP Photosmart was), a great photo and color document printer, and a copier. Also, the software doesn't invade your computer, like the HP software seemed to want to do (I had to allow way too much access to my system for my comfort for the HP device drivers for the PhotoSmart printer). I am very glad to have switched from HP to Canon, and I think I've switched for good.

Ужасно

After 6 months of somewhat light use, the black ink ran out. After trying to replace the black ink cartridge, it throws an error: u141 ink cartridge is not installed. Very sparse documentation on the web or in the manual regarding the error. Standard tricks like rebooting the printer, and cleaning the printer head didn't help. Unclear what to do next except to junk this printer.

Having just slammed the Kodak ESP7 I thought I would take a minute to say that I really enjoy this Canon printer. I've been using this model for about a year and a half now and am really pleased with it. It's fast, doesn't burn through ink incredibly fast, and just plain works.The only thing that keeps it from being a 5 star printer is that it does like to bug you to buy ink starting when the ink wells are about half empty.

Великолепно

Hesitant at first not knowing what I was getting into but true to form, printer arrived on specified date and after downloading instructions, found that it was so easy to install and use the printer. If any problems arise, I return to instructions, follow them, which are minimal, and so easy to follow then problems fixed immediately. As a senior citizen, I need something to correct itself with little effort. It also prints quickly with just a touch of the button.
