I had been happy with my Pixma 4000 which I purchased many years ago just after Canon introduced it. It had been playing up (it was over 8 years old) so I needed a replacement. The the Pixma 7250 works in a similar manner so I am happy with its procedure. Photo prints are stunning. No downsides.

It worked perfectly, straight out of the box.

I think what most of you will want to know is what the difference are between this Pro100 and the previous Pro 9000 Mark II. The first regrettable difference is that it uses different ink cartridges. They are the same size, but have a different number. I imagine they changed the electronic interface or something, and they also use 2 additional gray inks.The second, and what I think is the more important difference, is they added both wireless and wired network interface. This allows you to put this massive printer in a side room or somewhere out of the way if you don't have a lot of room by your computer, and it also means all the computers in your house can easily use it to print without sharing it between computers.Printing on the luster paper samples that were included with the printer, I couldn't tell a difference in detail between this printer and my old Pro 9000 MkII. Even for my black and white test shot the shadows and details looked virtually identical. For my color print, my Pro 9000 MkII always had a magenta cast to it. I think that is gone, but it might be slightly green now. Both can be calibrated, but that takes a significant effort. I mainly use mine for printing contest photos, so as long as they look fine by themselves I don't care too much if they are color matched. Again, detail wise I couldn't identify which print came from which printer.So bottom line is I don't see much reason to upgrade from the Pro 9000 MkII unless you want wireless/wired network printing. Also be aware that this printer is about 1" larger in every dimension than the old 9000 MkII which was very large.As far as home printing is concerned, I have won several contests with my old Pro 9000 MkII so it does a good enough job for prints. You really can't tell them from a pro shop for the most part. Longevity wise, my prints look fine after a year from the 9000 (similar Dye based) and are supposed to last 100 years. Although I don't believe that, as long as you buy genuine inks you should get pretty good life out of them. If you really need archival prints you should probably look at a pigment based printer.

I have really struggled with photographic printing for years with cheaper printers. After much research and agonising, I finally went for this rather than an Epson R3000. Factors that influenced me were that set-up seemed to be more straightforward, and that the Canon was less prone to blockages with intermittent use. I won't repeat the positive comments that others have made: I will simply say that for the first time in my life I'm producing prints that give me pleasure. Set-up was very straightforward, and it has performed faultlessly so far. My only criticism is the lack of a printed manual - you need to look up a lot of stuff, and using the on-screen hypertext manual provided is extremely frustrating. In summary, it's not cheap but it's worth every penny.

Well packaged item. Instructions fairly clear to follow.
The printer is not difficult to set up and the software recognised other Canon peripheries that were connected to the computer and created one centralised control panel for the printer and separate scanner.
The printer seems to go through a head cleaning process quite frequently, so will have to wait and see how long the ink cartridges last.
Printer is quite quick in producing the printed items and is relatively quiet.
Shame that it is slightly wider than the IP4600 that it replaced, as this meant that it would not fit on my printer shelf.

It's noisy, painfully slow- it takes ages to even begin printing and then it's a tedious line by line event where half the page comes out unprinted. I had to print something 3 times to get the whole thing. Mine is now not working at all (second time I've attempted to use it)- it's continuously offline. I've spent hours trying to get help - customer support, gone through the manual etc etc etc to no avail. Don't buy it!

I have only used this printer to print photos on Canon Photo paper and the quality appears to be as good as it gets.
From what I have read, it appears that the results may not be as good with other types of paper including standard A4 paper and some art paper which is not what the printer was designed for anyway.
It is a very large printer and you will need a dedicated desk but it is very silent. It feels well built and durable. Recommended product.

I bought this to replace an older Canon printer, now dead, with which I used to print CDs and DVDs using Canon's old 'CD LabelPrint' utility. I wanted a printer which would let me continue printing the same files with the same software, and because I couldn't find the info online I phoned Canon to ask which model to choose. They told me none of the current models would work with CD LabelPrint and that I would have to ditch all my files and start again with new software, whichever model I chose. Not true. I bought and installed the iP7250 anyway, started up CD LabelPrint and it immediately recognised the new printer and has been working with it perfectly since. I don't know whether to complain about the rubbish advice or celebrate my good luck...

Runs out of ink almost as soon as you put a new cartridge in. Wireless usually doesn't work. Rarely scans. Photo's - well you would be wasting you time. It can't even print a boarding pass that goes through a scanner properly (how can it not handle a barcode?).

Really one of the worst printers I have ever owned...

The only thing I didn t like ( and gave only 4 & not 5 stars ) is that ink cartridges are rather small ( for ink ml. ) and not transparent...

I've owned this printer for 18 months with light use. Set up was tricky but managed it in the end. Print quality was ok and ink consumption not too bad. Now however it is dead as the paper jams every time I try to print. Just bought two cartridges too. What to buy next as this is destined for the recycling centre?

Screeds of unneeded paper in the packaging - none of which really addresses direct disk printing. When I tried disk printing using Nero only 1/3 of the disk was covered because of offsetting.

Hours later I found a Canon programme - My Image Garden - which I couldn't see on the installation CD (I still don't know whether it's included) - either way if you're looking to print direct to BD/CD/DVD - look at [...] it'll put you on the right path.

There are not many options on the market if you want to print directly onto CD's and DVD's so I was happy to find this model. I researched this model and found it in my local Curry's megastore, typically it was out of stock so I came back home and ordered it from Amazon. It arrived only a couple of days later (as I went for the free postage option).

I bought this based on the previous reviews and I was not disappointed, it was a good quality printer and easy to set up and works from my iPhone, iPad and laptop.

The quality is good enough for my needs and I like how you can shut it when not in use. The cartridges are expensive but I believe that if you don't use the printer much buy the best cartridges, you pay for what you get.

REally pleased with this bit of kit - the best printer/copier/scanner I have had. Only trouble is that I have not yet been able to find out how to check the ink levels - that's a minor criticism. Ideal printer for modest home use. Oh! I nearly forgot - it is hard wired; the Wi-Fi bit didn't work for me.

Only one paper tray, paper must turn over before printing, not good for heavy paper. Very noisy and takes a very long time to set it's self. Does not shut down with the computer. It has a very long reset cycle. The ip7250 is a step backwards from the ip4700 which was superior in every way including better and cheaper ink cartridges. Still I think it is the best of a bad bunch. Better luck with the next replacement.

I've had this printer for over 6 months now. I've had a lot of similar Canon printers in my time and this is probably the poorest one.
If you want to print on anything thicker than ink jet paper forget it. I used to be able to print out birthday days on previous printers but this one jams every time. The ink is also very expensive. it looses wi-fi reception all the time. I'm kind of hoping it will break so I can buy another one.

I needed a printer and this seemed to be best suited and it has turned out to be ideal. It took me sometime to get it installed but when a friendly neighbour came to help, all went swimmingly. I now have, at last an very good printer with which I can do all that I ever needed to.

The Canon ip7250 is a good example of todays needs for a home photo and document printer however, when will the makers of these printers stop ripping off their customers by charging excessive prices for the ink that they use? Never, I guess, not when after replacing a couple of sets of ink you have doubled the price of the printer. So you look for other comparable cheaper ink supplies to save costs. This model does use the dearer type of cartridge, compared to my old ip4300 so the lesson here is to read every review you can get hold of to compare and purchase the printer that makes you happiest. Apart from all of that, the ip7250 runs along well and produces photos of fine quality, looks good and the CD direct print makes it complete. I would recommend this to a friend but I would also remind them of the cost of the ink. Amazon are on the ball and I'm happy with their fast service.

The Canon Pixma MX340 is your pretty average featured multifunction inkjet machine. The kind of machine that is at home in the home office, or now with wireless technology, you can pretty much put it anywhere with a plug where it is within range of your wireless router. Perhaps the home office can now become a crafting room or a man den. Totally up to you.I have experience with an almost-equivalent featured machine from HP: HP Photosmart C7280 Color Inkjet Printer that I have been using in my home (for personal and business use) for the past 2 years or so, so hopefully I can offer some insight.Size and appearance wise, I think the HP C7280 is more modern and pretty looking (think clean white ipod-ish) and Canon is pretty much a no-thrills office machine, aesthetically.They both offer inkjet printing, scanning, and faxing. Both have ADF (document feeder). The HP has automated duplexing (double sided printing) but that feature usually leads to me having to pull the printer off the shelf and extract little bits of paper from the inside. Apparently, duplexing makes the HP very hungry.Even though the HP was released a couple of years ago, I find that the quality- at least in printing-is comparable between the two machines- if not a bit more accurate on the Canon.To test the Canon I took a lab printed photo of my son and made a color copy on regular paper, and then high quality print using the little packet of Canon photo paper included with the printer. The copies were spot on- there was a little bit of darkening in the more shadowy areas of the copies, but the colors were so close to identical that I would not have guessed that the copies were indeed copies.Text printing quality is very nice as well.You can also print from pretty much anything that can be connected via USB. That's one built in feature I sort of like on the HP- the memory card slots are built in. With the Canon I have a card reader dangling off the front so I can print shots from SD, Compact Flash, and Sony MemorySticks. Not the end of the world, but I will be adding a dedicated card reader just for the Canon, otherwise I can see epic hunts for the misplaced card reader in my future.The one major thing that I did not like about the Canon was the wireless hook up. I followed the directions closely and it still took me 4 installs and over an hour of monkeying around to install the printer and have it actually communicate with my MacBook (running snow leopard). I installed the drivers on our other computer (a networked MacMini running both OSX and Windows XP) this morning and with a couple of clicks it was up and running... I think the use of the word "Register" in the easy install threw me- I thought it wanted me to REGISTER my new machine with Canon but really it was the needed step to bring the printer -computer connection to full functionality. I am pretty used to working with my mac, though I haven't installed a printer in 2 years until yesterday, but I would not want to troubleshoot the Canon over the phone for my parents, who are not so computer savvy. That isn't to say that my HP was easy to set up, it was a nuisance as well, but I found it a bit more intuitive...The Canon software and the scanning to a networked computer are leaps and bounds above the HP which is a moody beast and sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. The Canon software is easy to use and very efficient.Anyway...Pros:Nice print qualityDocument feeder is nice and smoothSoftware is nice for automating scanning and setting defaults to boost productivityIt's easy to open the whole thing up in case of a jam. Haven't had a jam yet, but I'm well versed in clearing them, so I figured I'd take a peek.Cons (when compared to the HP printer):-Tiny little dot matrix screen is dark and hard to read for this tired eyed gal. I much prefer the vivid color displays that allow more information to be seen at once. This may be a problem for people with low(er) vision-Lots of scrolling through menus is frustrating.-only one paper tray, traditional "stand up" paper feeder in the back of the printer means that the height + width footprint of this machine when in use is another 6" or so over the listed dimensions, with a bit more clearance needed to fill the paper feeder. The HP has a flat and mostly covered paper tray, with an additional tray for photo paper, which is nice because you don't have to keep swapping papers out of the machine when doing multiple job types... Because of this stand up paper feeder, this Canon wireless printer won't fit as easily onto most shelving units unless the shelves are a good distance apart. Whereas, the HP with the flat feeder can fit in a closet with plug access- out of site...Other than those things, I find the machines to be fairly comparable, and price-wise I would probably go for the Canon over the much more expensive HP as the features that make the HP a more advanced machine are what make it a frustrating machine, in my opinion.

Got it for a bargain price with extra ink and a Spyder monitor calibration system. Have tried using Canon and FotoSpeed papers, even though I am using a profiled monitor and genuine inks everything is coming out darker than on screen.
Seems this is a known issue.
Shame.

I have a Pixma iP4950 and find it a good design. I needed another for a different premises and presumed wrongly the iP7250 would be an improvement rather than the reverse.

A really bad design. Other reviewers have gone into the delay in printing and thirsty ink habits, but for me particularly annoying is that to print one good quality A4 print the tray must be removed, the standard paper taken out and replaced afterwards. Envelopes have the same problem.

I only opted for this model as I need to print on DVDs. Silly dumbed-down software is supplied, containing an unsuitable disc-label design program, but the good news is that I eventually found (as another reviewer did) that old CDlabelprint software works and can be found here:

Bought this printer so I could print of my iPad as I did a lot of work on there.... The printer came after 2 days of me ordering it. The set up did take a while and it was really long and all that but after the set up it works fine :). Connected to my iPad straight away and prints lovely. Instructions are easy to use and the buttons on the printer are easy to use. Overall a good product. I love it!

Great looking printer. I bought for direct cd printing and was disappointed by the software that came with it. Image garden is very gimmicky. I had to download image label from the cannon website for more features. That said it was easy to set up and so far wifi printing has been fairly painless.

Connecting to WiFi is far from straightforward. In fact it's complicated and even Canon's helpline won't help.

The paper pickup is poor and frequently it will decide that it has no paper even though it has plenty which has been inserted with care.

The build quality is also poor - feels flimsy.

This will be the last Canon product I ever purchase.

Appalling waste of money.

I'm quite disappointed with this printer, as it takes quite a long time for the software and driver to install, especially on my Vista based PC and a dell laptop that runs XP. The quickest setup was on my PC that runs Win 7 pro but I think that's partly due to being a USB connection rather than wireless. One thing that I thought was a bit odd, was the fact that it still has to use the router for a wireless connection, even though the laptop is WiFi. I always have to press the WiFi button on the printer for it to be recognised on the network in order for it to print.

I also find it takes a long time to sort itself out before it decides to start printing, making lots of mechanical noises. The other thing I don't like about it is the fact that the paper feeds from the front, which means making sure that one sided paper is put in the cassette facing down.

I bought this printer as a replacement for a i9950 A3 printer which had gone wrong after 8 years but I now wish I had it repaired instead, or may be I should have bought an Epson P50.
