Although I ordered a Canon Pixma MP130, a substitute model 480 was sent instead with used printing cartridges. The shipper then sent a full refund.

The unit is a great size and I like its size. However the installation was a nightmare and I eventualy gave up. If it takes this much energy to install the soft ware it makes me nervous for the future computer conflicts. Also I was disapointed that the unit did not come with a USB cord to attach the printer to the computer

This is the third printer I've owned after an HP and an Epson. Of course we expect printers and other technology to improve over the years but this is the first one that really just did what I wanted it to do and it does it all without fuss.I run Windows XP and I've had no trouble whatsoever getting it to work smoothly in that environment. No conflicts, no errors, no wasted time, no consultation of manuals and no tech support necessary.I've been doing a lot of printing since I got this, and a lot of that printing has been for artwork that is mostly black background with images in white. That means an awful lot of black ink. I expected to get 13-15 copies of this artwork before I had to change cartridges, based on my experiences with HP and Epson. I'm up to about 80 copies of this black-heavy image and still haven't had to change. In the meantime I've printed hundreds of miscellaneous pages of mostly black print, but with a fair amount of color as well, and I'm just running low on the magenta cartridge and still haven't had to change any of them. I'm absolutely thrilled with this performance. The print quality is wonderful, and better than I expected, even from a new printer.I do a lot of scanning and onscreen editing (cropping, drawing, messing with the color, etc). The software is easy to use and fairly intuitive. When I bought the printer, I didn't know it could print on both sides of the paper, but when I happened to think that that would be a good thing for a long document I had, I figured out how to do it in a couple of minutes, and it did a perfect job without babysitting.I understand this model is being discontinued for a newer one, but when it's time to buy a new printer in a few years, I seriously doubt I won't get a Canon.

First off, Amazon had the cheapest price on this printer ANYWHERE. It looks out of stock now, but if it came back in stock, this is the place to get it. I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He actually needed a new scanner as his was old, but our generic printer could have been updated too. And I liked that it had the copy feature. The prints are quick and quite good. We haven't tried printing anything major or any photos yet, but so far, no problems with the printing. He had a slight issue with the scanner at first. It took FOREVER to scan because it actually has to configure itself before every single scan. But even we were suspicious at the amount of time it took. So he called tech support and they told him that one of his Mac drivers were out of date. So he downloaded new ones, and, problem solved! It still has to configure itself every time you scan(unless you keep scan on the whole time) but its nowhere near as slow. After the scan actually gets goin, its very quick. And honestly, I think the constant configuration is for people that have a Mac, or at least, that is what the tech guy told him.We haven't tried the slide scanning feature yet or the copier. But for this price range, it has everything you are looking for and I think its a great deal. Also, my husband is a graphic designer, so he needs his scans to be crisp looking, and I know he's satisfied so it was worth it just for that. One minor issue is the size of the printer. It is pretty large, but if you have a decent amount of room on your table (we have 2 L-shaped desks) then its not really a big deal. The LCD screen is a neat feature as well.

The printer was small enough to fit into my rolling computer bag with no problem. It doesn't seem to add much weight to the bag either. Set up and use is a breeze. Print quality is not on the level of a laser printer but it is very good for it's size. The printer ink cartridges are tiny but I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. The printer is also fairly rugged. It has bounced around in my computer bag for the past month with no problems. All things considered, this was a great purchase and it has served very well as a portable printer. I would definitely recommend it.

I have had other printers over the past 15 years of traveling.. BUT... for reliability, compact size(fits inside same small bag as my laptop)and ease of use there is no other printer.So..if you want or need the convience of a full size sheet printer in a compact and reliable size...BUY IT! YOU will be glad you did.

I wanted an all-in-one printer that printed graphics and paintings well, and included a good scanner, and could also fax in a pinch. This device fits that bill (although the color on the scanner is a little jacked sometimes). The printer takes a long time to get started, but once it goes, it prints quickly enough. I like the way the feeds work and I haven't had a jam. I've printed watercolors with this, and the look like they were hand painted. I'm completely satisfied with the quality. I don't print photos, as I think it is a lot faster easier and cheaper to let Snapfish or Kodak do that for me, but for art projects, it is great. The problem with this printer is that the cartridges are ridiculously expensive. Replacing all 5 cartridges costs at least $50. That is crazy! In addition, refilling cartridges is difficult due to their rather draconian chips. I'm not sure what brand is better, but buyer beware the cartridges on this otherwise nice product.

I bought this AIO in November 2006 after my Canon i550 printhead stopped working. I liked this AIO and the capability to fax, scan, print, and copy, but it had to be replaced twice by Canon. The first time, it sounded like a machine gun and the second time I kept getting a paper jam error message but nothing was jammed, and the printing was wavy, which was really a problem with bar codes. The third time it broke, it was out of warranty. It displayed error message "5100" and the alarm flashed so I turned it off and back on again and it printed a couple of pages and displayed the error message again. Also, two lines (one near the top and one near the bottom) looked as if the sentence was cut down the middle (horizontally) and put back together again, but just a little skewed. I called Canon and it was 30 days out of warranty so they wouldn't replace it.Also, I don't often print in color, mostly in grayscale, but all of the ink cartridges empty quite often. I am thinking about buying a Canon b/w laser AIO instead, hoping the cost per page will be less. I do like Canons and their customer service. I think, perhaps, the MP530 has a few problems. The good news is that I had forgotten I had purchased the N.E.W. 2 year replacement warranty so I called them and they sent me a check for the entire purchase price! I will ALWAYS purchase their replacement warranty for future printers, from here on out.

This is a great little printer for dragging around. I am a home inspector doing on site printing. The only drawback I see is that I get about 40 pages per black cartridge, however the tanks are cheap and small, I just have to carry several for when they run out. Other than that it is small, light weight, and works great. I print mostly text and mostly black, not any photos except my logos. I do not yet use the wireless or battery options but expect to in the future.

I have experienced nothing but hassles with my Canon 580 since I bought it. I'd hardly used the printer when the indicator said I needed to "check ink." It doesn't *always* say that, but it does again now, and it won't even let me scan a document because I need to "check ink" again -- though no ink is necessary for creating a digital file!! I've also been very disappointed with the quality of photo prints it produces. I wish I'd ignored Consumer Reports and gotten another HP all-in-one...

I have to say, it works perfectly. Didn't make strange noises, or give up on me. I am very happy with it. The print quality is not excellent, as to be expected from a tiny little machine like this, so I don't print my resumes with it, but for stuff on the go, it's perfect. I am very, very satisfied.

There are many detailed reviews and descriptions so I will highlight just a few points.1. Easy to set up in Windows XP - a couple minutes, no glitches. You must have a (not-included) USB cable with a "square" end.2. You get fax-from-pc-document capability. For example, you have a Word or Powerpoint document on your pc. Basically when "printing" that document you choose the "Fax" among printer options in your regular print screen - dead simple, it prompts for phone #.3. For us. a key factor was to replace our old one-sheet flatbed scanner with a multi-sheet scanner for home office use. Your multiple sheet paper document is converted to a PDF. (E.g. convert tax documents to "paperless office".) Great! The MP530 direct PDF is, however, an "image" type PDF and not word searchable. (Optical reader software is bundled, but not "inside" the PDF maker, it is a different program.) If you want to convert a paper document to a one-file, searchable PDF, you need special software like Adobe Acrobat. Acrobat can convert a PDF image document (direct from MP530) to a somewhat larger PDF with a hidden "vocabulary" of all words, making it searchable in the future even in free Adobe Reader. Of course, Acrobat software costs multiples of the MP530's price, so you wouldn't expect it to be included. (Check for academic versions if you have kids or are in school yourself.) You can get different machines, about triple the cost, that are home office "document scanners" but for light use we think the MP530 will accomplish this service fine.4. Overall, no glitches in our first week. Other reviews report the MP530 ink cost-per-page is fairly low compared to various brands of all-in-one printers. Newer all-in-ones have features like little color video screens and slots for camera memory chips, those were not "must haves" for us.

I gave the MP530 three stars because I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I fully expect it to be a fine quality printer considering the money and brand name, but that remains to be seen. I had a Canon Bubblejet I bought back in '96 and was terribly disappointed with it enough to keep me away from *all* Canon printers for a decade. Hopefully, the MP530 will not disappoint. That said, let me skip the gravy/mashed potatoes and get straight to the meatloaf.I'm running a Win2k SP3 box that has gone through quite a bit of upgrading, including having installed a USB 2.0 PCI card. I upgraded to 2.0 because my system came with version 1.1 and it's cheaper to upgrade than it is to run out and buy a new system.Be advised that the Pixma MP530 does not function with a USB PCI card. You have to use the USB on your mobo, otherwise the printer just won't communicate with the system. Canon tech support explained that the printer expects a response from the system within a certain timeframe, and, well, with a USB PCI card, it takes longer for comms to inside the system to run along the channels on the mobo and the end result is that you get a printing error. To get around this issue, I had to use the USB on the mobo. Not happy about having to do that, however, I see no degrade in speed of sending the print job to the printer. You really only see how fast USB 2.0 is when transferring mp3 files to and from a player.Secondly, and this was my biggest complaint - nowhere is it noted (or maybe I missed it somehow) but you don't find out that you have to buy a USB cable until after you get it home. I due diligenced my printer choices pretty comprehensively before I selected the MP530 and nowhere did I see it listed that you had to buy the USB cable. Like any other consumer, I just assumed it came with it. Wrong! As to the rest of the functions on the MP530, I can't really find anything significant to complain about. Copies, scans and faxes satisfactorily. If you have a single voice line and want to keep the MP530 in receive fax mode, then you can do so if you get Distinctive Ring Service from your phone company. Just make sure you set it all up in the menu on the MP530 and from within the printer properties on the computer. You can also attach an old skool answering machine (Read: *not* voicemail from your phone co.) to the MP530 and it is smart enough to determine which is a voice call (because the answering machine picks up) versus what is a data (fax) call. All in all, I'm happy with this item at the moment. Tech support is free for a year (be sure to register it on the website) and the tech support dpt is located in SE Virginia, so you get to speak to REAL LIVE AMERICANS, not mushmouthed Indians in Bangalore pretending to be named "Bob."

I researched this printer on the web like crazy before purchasing. I almost went with the MP830, but saw too many complaints about how much ink it used, and the MP530 seemed to have better reviews on it's photo printing capabilities. Since the MP830 had extra features like card slots and a viewing monitor that I really didn't need (I edit all my photos on the computer before I print them), I went with the MP530 instead. Boy, am I glad I did. This is a heck of a lot of equipment for the money. I was replacing old Epson equipment that had stood the test of time without fail (2 printers including a photo printer, and a scanner), but my new home business required something with more up to date capabilities. Having worked for Epson myself for over 12 years, I would have liked to have bought an Epson again, but they didn't make anything like this with an ADF.Anyway, back to this fantastic AIO. This unit was super easy to setup and caused no issues with my Windows XP system at all - I didn't even have to reboot! I thought for sure with the tons of equipment I already have installed that it would screw up something, but it was no problem at all. The controls are easy to understand and you could probably figure out how to do everything with it without even picking up the manual. The scan quality is perfect for a home business like mine and I was quite surprised that it prints photos just as good as my Epson high level photo printer. And it prints quiet and fast. I have not used it to fax yet, but I fax through my computer anyway so I can save everything on disk, so I won't use this feature much. The duplex printing and copying really does work great, but for scanning you have to put the pages in twice for duplex - no biggee for me, but it might matter to someone who scans duplex a whole bunch. The software that came with it was great too; nice little photo printing package that REALLY fixes red eye, and has some nice print layouts. As an amateur photographer, I really wanted a unit that could print a decent photo, and this unit didn't dissapoint me (and I'm kinda picky about photo quality).Only a couple words of concern to anyone buying this - anything put in the paper cassette will be printed on the "down" side - something I found out the hard way after printing on the wrong side of photo paper. It would have been nice if they labeled the tray with that info, but it's a small freckle on an otherwise perfect unit.So far I have been playing with this for a few hours and have tried almost all the functions except faxing. Everything is working great with it. I can't believe I am actually going to be able to replace my office inkjet, my photo printer, and my scanner with this, but I really can. And I got the ADF scanning and color copying capabilities I needed for my home business on top of that. And all for less than I paid for either of my old printers or scanner individually. Thank you Canon! You just made my desktop a whole lot more spacious.

This printer uses color ink whenever you print in B&W. This sucks up your ink and makes the quality not as good as it could be. Supposedly this only happens in duplex mode, but that is why I bought this printer. Then if any color cartridge is empty, you cannot print at all. This is just a scam to get you to buy more ink because once empty you cannot refill the ink.Do not buy as this is a horrible scam.

When working mobile with company configured equipment, I had been used to using an iP80 Canon Printer. After retiring and finding myself needing a printer for mobile use once more, I naturally looked for the iP80. Finding that it had been replaced by the iP90v I purchased it at a great price through Amazon. This printer works exceptionally well, performs all of the funtions that I wanted and fits in a small space (much needed when carrying on the road). The only problem it has is that the ink cartridges don't go a long way, but that is to be expected with a printer of this size.I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs to carry on with them on the road.

Got this printer for my birthday in July 2003.Five years later and it's still chuggin' along as well as it ever did.Cheap and easy to find ink tanks, when it thinks it's dirty it does a self-maintenance cleanup. Photo quality is great, I mean right to the edge of the photo paper if you ask that of it.I've been through a lot of printers before this one, Fujitsu DL3600 (89-98), HP-712C (97-99), Canon BJC-1000, BJC-2000, BJC-2100 and in 2002 a Canon i320 (which gave up after only a few months). Kinda glad it did because...Frustration set in big time but I was soon rewarded with a "good" printer, the one I still have today (August 2008).The Canon i450If you see one nowadays that's cheap and in good working order somewhere, snap it up. In FAX standard, it can send or receive black/white or color fax. FAX machines knows the incoming fax is black/white or color. However, in this fax machine, Canon purposely using color inks to compose the black color, so that the black color can run out quickly. We have this fax machine for about six month, total useful fax is about 30 pages and about 300 pages of junk faxes. All the incoming faxes are black and white, not color. But the color ink ran out today after printing about 330 pages black and white faxes.I earlier stated this multifunction unit did not allow refill inks. But if you have a computer connected to its USB port and install all the driver software to the PC, you could go into the ink details to acknoledge the warranty being void on the head. The software will prompt you to press and hold cancel button for 5 second for each color. Then it will work with refilled ink catridges.Nevertheless, I don't like the trick they played by using color inks to compose black. Otherwise, it is a nice all-in-one device. I have kept telling Canon support, if Canon can make good quality printers like this one, without putting the tricks to consumer more color inks and allowing people to refill, even void the head warranty but not disable the ink monitoring capability, I don't mind to pay then extra $100 for Canon printers.

This product is heavy and occupies space. It works well. However, remember there is a chip in every ink cartridge, and it is a real pain in your neck. Once ink in the cartridge is low all the functions are frozen and nothing (Fax/printer/scanner) works unless you install costly original Canon ink. There is no way around. This prompted me to work with a company that is going to make a overriding device where you could do reset the chip multiple times. This product is now available in Europe, and it would be launched in U.S. shortly.I have been using this product for more than 13 months, and bought it when it was priced 158 dollars. Now it is priced just over 100 dollars.I would recommend this product if you are willing to pay for the costly original ink cartridge.

I bought my S400 in May 2003 and fit it with a 1GB Lexar CF card. This camera has been with me across 3 continents -- from -10C up to 40C climates -- and easily 17,000 photos in these 3.5 years. The camera is very solidly built, and has a reassuring heft to it. The Celabrite finish on the front resists fingerprints and is pretty durable (except in the corners where some of it has rubbed off from roughing it in pockets/purses). The S400 has a 1/1.8" CCD sensor, which is larger than most of the subcompact cameras out there -- they have 1/2.5" sensors -- and translates directly into better low-light performance before noise-reduction and processing can even start to help out. Because of this, my next camera will definitely have 1/1.8", regardless of its noise-reduction capabilities. This was also one of the first cameras to sport an "orientation" sensor, meaning it "knows" which way you're holding the camera when you're taking the shot, and inserts this into the JPG's EXIF metadata. But while normal images are named IMG_xxxx.JPG, the movie files are named MOV_xxxx.AVI, meaning in a normal listing view, they don't show up in chronological order interspliced with the images. And I don't believe the movies have datestamps on them besides the file timestamp. Anyway, for today's standards, the movie quality (resolution and frame rates) leaves something to be desired. The custom white balance on the S400 is quite good, and saved me from having to do a lot of postprocessing to "un-yellow" some photos.Focusing on this camera is a little slow, and is definitely audible. But if you plan to take a lot of photos of the same subject (or at the same distance), you can lock the focus once you have it, and keep shooting without re-focusing. This also shortens the shutter lag! Ditto with exposure lock, which is useful if your picture has a wide range of lighting conditions and the best exposure isn't necessarily in the middle or detected by the camera.A second (and third, maybe) battery is a definite requirement if you go for day trips, because like all Canons, the S400 doesn't show how much battery power is left! You get a flashing red battery sign, meaning you probably have 5-10 shots left; twice that if you turn off the LCD and flash. I found that on vacation, I would go through two full batteries per day. Sidenote: my second battery was an aftermarket with slightly higher capacity (900mAh over 840mAh), and it was 1/4 the price and lasted great until recently, when it stopped holding much of a charge. There have been, of course, many complaints about a famous "memory card error", but I haven't had it happen to me. [...].Sadly, some 5 hours before New Year's Eve 2007, my camera refused to power up. It didn't make it into 2007, but it gave me a great run for the money!

The glossy color photos are outstanding. I usually get a very good match between what I see on the screen and what prints out in color. It's reasonably quick too, even at high quality settings. I'd rate it only average for text, but it is a "photo" printer, which is why I bought it.My gripe is with the quality of black and white prints. There is a noticeable magenta cast to mid gray tones, even using Canon's Photo Pro glossy paper. (If a B&W print is going to have color pollution, I would not pick magenta.) Darker B&W prints tend to be muddy. Whites are not clean. What I see on the screen is not what I get in the print.Printing directly from my cameras using Pictbridge or from the sim chip does not help, so this is definitely a printer problem. I have worked hard in Photoshop to counteract this, but can't come up with a neutral palette. I have the same problem with the Canon MP600 multi function printer I use in my home office, so I guess it's endemic to cheaper Canons. Don't buy this printer if you are really into Black and White printing. Now, I upload all my B&Ws to a nearby Walgreens and get great prints in an hour.Speaking of which. When I first bought this printer I thought I would do all my photo printing on it. After blowing through more than $50.00 worth of ink in no time at all on a printer I paid $115.00 for, and then repeating that process way too soon, I realized that Canon could soon finance a new factory in China on the profits from my ink consumption alone. So now, after Photoshopping, I upload most of my vacation type 4X6s to Walgreens for $.19 ea & pick them up in an hour. I save the Canon for 5X7s or 8X10s which are more cost effective at home.IMO, if Canon cut their ink cost in half, they'd sell more than twice as much paper and ink, not to mention eliminating a lot of ill will from customers who feel exploited every time they pop for another round of ink cartridges. Right now, their pricing is based on what they think they can get away with.

I don't print all that often and by my estimate I believe I'm printing no more than 50 or 60 pages before I start getting "out of ink" messages. Keep in mind a set of new cartridges costs $80. That's coming out to more than $1 per page which seems crazy to me. I intend to replace this printer instead of buying more ink. I will NOT be buying a Canon printer. The scanning function worked very nicely using the multiple page feeder. It also accepts legal size pages which is a nice feature.

I got this camera about 4 years ago, and I just lost it/got it stolen so in a way, this is a tribute to it..So, it goes to say that this camera definitely lasted me a long time. I loved the digital zoom [which I used constantly since it came in great use during concerts, shows and for small things I want to capture out in the distance] and the image size of my pictures [and resolution] when I uploaded my pictures on my computer. It always made me look normal- some of my friend's cameras just made people look weirdly colored or not as clear, but mine always shone through. Even when all the new, slimmer, touch-screen cameras came out, I thought of getting a new one but I always loved my camera and I used it a lot. Yes, it was bulky and yet it never prompted people to say, "WOW, let me see your camera!", but I loved it. The only thing that did annoy me a little was the time that it took to start up and stuff- I missed some good moments because of it. And its video recording format is really limited [I think it had a time limit and you can't zoom while filming? I think.] But overall, I loved it and I miss it. Go Canon!!

It was set up and printing within 10 minutes of delivery. The ink cartridges are tiny so be sure to bring along extras if you are traveling. I was so impressed with this printer that I replaced my printer at home with a full siza Canon Pixma printer.

Well, soon as we got it out of the box,I didn't even want to set it up! Too big I thought! My hubby pleasantly convinced me to just give it a try. Maybe there's a reason it's bigger? Maybe you'll like it better, JUST try!Okay! Well, the set up was a breeze! I have JUST returned 2 HP multifunctions,& was feeling printer-weary. The 1st one, just would NOT cooperate w/my Dell! Too many Tech calls, just to get the little printer/copy/scanner to work without HP Cue Errors! RETURNED! Tried the next HP up, think it was the Officejet 5610. Set up GREAT, but photowork was lacking? After using HP's for over a decade, I just did NOT want to "settle" when I need great photo/graphics quality. I'm also an Illustrator, and hope to utilize my printer for future work. Have worked over 2 decades w/Preschoolers, & illustrated the Reading Program, "The Secret Stories," and hope to create future works to help children begin reading. So this is a serious item for my small business. I turned to Consumer Reports. They're top multifunctions were Canon Pixmas! So, our Office Depot had this MP530 for $169, just 40. more than the little HP.I MUST admit, I really had a SERIOUS negative reaction due to it's bulkiness. I TRIED to find faults! BUT>It printed incredibly FAST!! I CANNOT understand HOW it spits out 4X6's in under, what seems like 30 secs!! But it DOES!! AND>>these photos LOOK more like REAL photos than ANY other printer I've used! SO, I'm STILL in the 14 day phase where it can be returned AND am trying to test it to death! Scanning produced GREAT prints BUT, I need to learn how to view them better. HP was SO simple in that catagory. Canon's Scan Viewer seemed too small, not as crystal clear as I need. The paper feeder is GREAT! Love the ease of the back feed & how perfectly it aligns the letter sz/then push the tab & pop in the 4X6's=perfect handling. Next the FAX: I am TOTALLY confused! The "EASY set-up/Install" diagram left me crazy! User's Guide Book, WAY too techie & left me even more confused! I did succeed in sending a FAX! But, it interferes w/my phone line no matter which outlet I use in machine? So, I WILL be spending time this weekend, with Canon's Support Techs to hopefully help me.PLEASE let me know IF Tech Support is good?If so, I think I'm now scared to go back to HP, after witnessing the quality & speed of this machine! OH, thanks to my hubby, for helping me settle down & accept those extra inches it takes up on my desk. He was RIGHT!

I bought this printer from Amazon after reading the mostly positive reviews. I was going back and forth between Canon and Epson. I had read that the comparably priced Epson models went through a lot of expensive ink so I went with the Canon. I've owned several Canon cameras in the past and have always been satisfied with the operation and quality. This printer however has been a lemon since day one. I followed the instructions for quick set up, loaded the software and hooked up the USB cord. I think I got one print out of it and then it showed an error- U071 more than one yellow ink cartridge installed. I went to the manual and it said to make sure the cartridges were installed in the proper order, so I removed and re-installed the cartridges. No luck, same error code. I turned off the printer and turned it back on. Same error code. Remove and re-install the cartridges, turn off and on. Finally ready to print. One print later and the error code appears again. After trying to use the printer like this on several occasions and having printed maybe a total of five pages I called Canon tech support. The representative had me removed the cartridges, take out the print head, blot the bottom on a piece of paper and re-install in printer. The error code cleared and he had me run a maintenance print on the cartridges which came out looking fine. I thought that maybe it was going to work now, however after printing out one more print it went back to it's old ways. I've had it for maybe a month now and I'm tempted to ask Amazon for a replacement. Of course I've long since thrown away the box. After the hassle of trying to get this simple printer to work properly I'd definitely be hesitant to ever buy another Canon printer. If I do get this one to work or end up getting a replacement that works I may amend my review. The prints do look good when it does print.

This printer was easy to set up and use. The quality of the prints are excellent and the speed of printing is good. I am still on the initial print ink cartrige but the number of prints so far is much better than many printers deliver. Unlike my last printer (Epson), I do not have to buy both the paper and ink cartrige together so the overall cost of printing should be very good. Overall and excellent low cost printer.

Being a graybeard, I have owned many computer printers since my first dot matrix, circa 1978. Until now, each one has vastly outperformed its predecessor. However, the performance of the Canon MP810 is so far beyond the performance of the Deskjet 870 it replaces that "vastly outperforms" is a gross understatement. What should be apparent from the Canon product description is that this printer does virtually anything one can imagine doing with a printer. Quick text? You got it. Stunning lab-quality digital photo prints? You got them. Scan and copy? Yup. What isn't apparent from the description is the amazingly robust construction, the virtual silence, and the reassuring ink efficiency of this superb quality machine. The controls look and feel like they belong on a high end audio component. There is no plastic-on-plastic "grinding and clacking"...just the silky-smooth sound of high quality, friction-free parts doing their work. And the ink cartridges, while not cheap, carry the machine a long way between fill-ups. In short, this is a spectacular product.

I haven't been happy with printer purchases in the last few years. Problems with drivers malfunctioning, ink issues, manufacturer support and the like. And BTW...I will NEVER buy an Epson again. I also needed scanning capability after my ancient scanner stopped working and could never get it working again. So, I decided to go for an all-in-one solution.I did quite a bit of research and this product seemed like it would not only fit my needs but was quite reliable.I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. Canon has done a great job. Not only does it look nice, it's easy to use. Ink replacement is difficult with so many other printers I've had, with this one it's simple, and lickety split.Every single function works exactly as advertised and the packaged software works just great. The control panel doesn't go through bizarre cryptic choices to find what you need. Everything is well laid out and works as you'd expect it to.I hadn't realized it did batch scanning...and I just needed that on a project. What a great thing that is. Print quality for documents and color photos is great. It's not as fast as some others out there, but for my home office...it is a winning performer.Kudos Canon! You've made me one happy customer. BTW...I'm writing this review in January 2008, and I got it in May 2007. It still works just as good as when I unpacked it!

I received the printer with a broken ink cartridge in the box, that should have been the first clue. Printer would not get past the set up returning an error about the "scan lock". Makes me wonder if they actually tested the printer before sending it back out again. If it hadn't been for the easy return policy I would have been very upset. Ended up buying a brand new Canon MP610 and had it up and running in a few minutes, very happy with it.

I bought the Pixma to replace my old BJC-85, when it finally gave the "8 beeps of death" after years of faithful service. This Pixma is a great looking machine and the printouts look good. It might actually rate more than 3 stars, but I haven't had it very long, and it has some mighty big shoes to fill as a replacement for the 85. Make that smaller shoes, because the BJC-85 was a bit smaller, and fit just right into my computer carry case. But the Pixma is sleek and compact, and fits into my carry case with my laptop and both power supplies. Another nice feature the 85 had was an alternate print head that held one large black ink cartridge, instead of small color and black cartridges. If you didn't need color, it provided a longer lasting ink supply. I haven't seen that for the Pixma yet, and I don't know how long the small ink cartridges will last. I bought the BJS-85 from a friend for $100 about 5 or 6 years ago, for a very specific purpose, and it filled the bill perfectly. I guess this is less of a review of the Pixma than a nostalgia piece about my old BJC-85. I don't have a lot of experience with the Pixma yet, but it looks great, and prints cleanly and quickly. It probably prints a lot better than I need. It seems quieter than the 85 too.

I got what seemed to be a pretty decent deal on this a few months back. One of the strong points for me is that you can have envelopes and regular paper loaded at the same time. I do not print a lot of envelopes, and it's nice to be able to load them into a separate tray and not have to swap out the paper when you need to switch. When I finally got everything hooked up, I discovered that while the print quality was nice, the fax functionality was a problem. I prefer to store my faxes as an image on my computer, which my previous Brother MFC did beautifully. Actually, the only reason I replaced the Brother MFC was because it failed the same way my previous HP all in one failed - a paper jam that rendered it incapable of feeding envelopes any longer - the feed mechanisms seem to be an issue with a lot of these units. What I like about the Brother MFC is that the software is very intuitive and easy to use, and I could set it up to be stored on the fax machine if the computer was not on, and then upload it to the computer when on again, right into Paperport. Very convenient and virtually completely automatic. This Canon has NO fax receiving software at all. I had incorrectly assumed all the MFC copiers had that functionality built in by now.If anyone knows of a printer that has dual cassettes (for both envelopes and paper), a RELIABLE feed mechanism, with good fax receiving software, PLEASE let me know!!

I bought this Pixma 26 months ago. Before this I had a Canon MP360 and loved it. I had to leave the MP360 with someone else when I came out here. Man that was an amazing printer. But it was discontinued. At the time I got this MP130, I had to be very price conscious. The MP130 completely fit the bill. For myself, all my printers will all be Canon until further notice. So that narrowed the field considerably. You might wonder why such loyalty to Canon? Okay, I'll tell you. Canon is high quality no matter how much you pay. In addition, the cost of operation is very low. Ink cartridges are less expensive and widely available from hundreds of sources both online and offline. As for this MP130, it has done all asked of it. It prints high quality photos which is amazing since it only uses two cartridges (black & color). It prints crisp text with no smudging or blurring. It scans perfectly. It copies accurately. I don't know if this printer is still available, but if it is, and you need a printer for under $100 that is very low cost to operate, you cannot go wrong with this MP130.I will add that mine now works much better with this 24# paper I just got. It's a bit thicker and the printer seems to really love it, you know? Printers are people too! smile. In conclusion, have had this MP130 for 26 months and never needed to call for repairs or do any repairs. Just change the ink when it asks and run the deep clean cycle every four or five months. I WISH I had something bad to say about it so I could convince myself to get something new.

Ok where do I begin with this one...Cons...Price - Very expensive if you want to be mobile with it.Printer ($250 plus shipping) along with the optional bluetooth adapter (an additional $80 or so plus shipping), and also the optional battery pack kit (an additional $140 plus shipping). I paid a total of over $500 plus shipping costs for this printer and the accessories to be able to use it wireless.Included Software - Didnt auto install and doesnt always workI had to call tech support to find out if the disk was bad or what and we ended up going into the disk and manually installing each program which ended up not installing the icons or other little special things.Printer/Bluetooth Installation/Setup -If you are using a usb connection then you are ok but be warned of the "work arounds" needed and other problems when using the printer strictly with the bluetooth adapter. The printer would not install via the bluetooth connection right out of the box. There is no documentation with the printer or bluetooth manual as to where the adapter should be installed either. I had to call tech support to find out where to install the adapter. I had to call twice to tech support in order for someone who would actually take the time out to help with the situation.Cannon has a very weird way of a work around to get the bluetooth adapter to work with the printer and computer. First of all you have to figure out which way you want to connect the printer on your computer. Your computer's bluetooth hardware has to be configured to work with Microsofts drivers for the printer to work properly such as giving you ink status and other functions. You only have one way communication under Windows XP SP2 and that is to only print to the machine and nothing else. The other draw back to this configuration is that other devices such as my wireless headset wouldnt work anymore using the microsoft drivers. So, if I wanted both devices to work I had to use the device drivers that came with my computer's bluetooth adapter and I was back to square one with only one way communication to the printer but at least all other wireless devices would work again. When I called tech support about this problem they tried to help but didnt know about any such problems even though its all over the internet about people having problems getting the bluetooth to work properly or even at all with their bluetooth adapters that are installed in their pc. One tech even had me uninstall the printers software and upon reboot the computer would not boot up at all. I spent a month trying to reinstall everything back into the pc.Setup also requires you to install the printer using a usb connection first and then installing the printer again but with the bluetooth connection therefore installing two different printers. Anytime you need to do something to this printer it has to be connected via usb to do any maintenance on it.This printer was a major pain to get up and running.Print speed/Quality -The printer takes a lot longer to print the same page of text compared to my lexmark x6170 all in one. Also, in between each page there is a default drying time which can be changed to go longer but not turned off completely.Pros...Mobility - No need for wires or power adaptersSmall - fits in a briefcase or laptop bag easilyPrint Quality - is better than most small compact printersCartridges - are cheap but dont really last that long since they are so smallDo I recommend the printer you ask...yes i recommend it if you are a mobile person and need to print things on the spot anytime anywhere and are willing to shell out over $500 to do so.Once you do get it up and running properly you will not be dissapointed with it.

I love this all-in-one; it prints great photos and does a good job at scanning and faxing. I especially like having a paper tray like a real office machine. Two things lost it a star. 1) The printer "door" that all the output goes through sometimes sticks. (If you leave the door open all the time, this won't be a problem for you. I have to close it for it to fit in a pull-out tray.) 2) There is a "clamp" that secures the printer cartridges. If you forget to close it back down before you close the printer cavity, you can break off the handle of the clamp.Okay, I can hear you saying, "oh come on, who would do that?" Imagine you are changing a cartridge. You open the printer, open the clamp, put in the new cartridge. Phone rings. You close the printer, hmmm it's taking some more force than usual... OOPS, you just broke the clamp handle. What a shame! You forgot to close the clamp handle first. You can't tell me Canon couldn't design the chassis so that closing the printer would also simply close the clamp handle if some bozo like me left it up.The main reason this doesn't hurt the printer much in the review is that the thing still works! I can put in new cartridges with the clamp still locked down. So, why have a cartridge clamp at all? Good question.
