Some background: This is about my 8th printer in about 25 years, and my 4th all-in-one (2 HPs, 2 Canons). Last Canon was an MP830, which I loved...but it wasn't wireless (which I needed in a new house), so now my dad enjoys it. Bought this printer (MX882) almost a year ago based on phenomenal reviews and a lot of research on my part, and it indeed does a great job printing, handling paper, duplexing, copying, scanning, faxing...you name it.However, and this is a BIG however, I cannot believe how much ink this thing goes through. Even during months where I print nothing but textual pages with rare exception, the printer continues to show my color cartridges being expended at incredible rates. I used to print all kinds of photos, greeting cards, and signs with my old MP830 and was truly impressed with how long the cartridges would last -- not great, but definitely reasonable. Now, with the 882, I've pretty much stopped printing anything other than black and white text and the occasional web page....and it's still using ink faster than my 830!Let me be frank -- this printer could cook me three meals a day and wash my car once a week and I still would not recommended it to anyone because of what I would describe as a criminally deficient design flaw (or should I say purposely designed?!) when it comes to its ink usage. The MP830 may have made me a Canon fan, but the 882 obliterates that feeling every time I pop in a new ink cartridge every few weeks!!!

Canon claims this printer is Mac compatible. Well... not quite true. The 882 is the only Canon printer that is not compatible with Airprint, and therefore cannot be used wireless with your Mac. As if that weren't enough, Canon provides no cable to use it with USB connection. What were they thinking???? When I can find a USB to USB cable, which for some reason is hard to find in Florida, I will do a review on the printing quality. In the meantime, I'm just pissed that they lied about the Mac compatibility. Oh, did I mention that the web address they provide to for tech support in a non-existent site? Wait-- there's another address on a special printed sheet-- let's try that one. Oh.... I guess that one doesn't work either. What a shitty company!!! And it's not like this is a cheap printer. These people should be in jail for fraud.

This review is from a novice person regarding multifunction printers. That's my disclaimer.)I've had the Canon Pixma for several months now and really feel I spent my money well on this equipment. I have a satellite office in my home and needed to purchase a multifunction printer to accommodate my growing business. Set up was pretty easy for both my laptop (wireless) and my PC. Picture quality for both Black & White and color are fine; however I have not yet used the photo print paper. It does take a little time to warm up as I often shut it down to conserve electricity but this is not an issue for me at all. A big plus for me...the tray feeder. I put a thirty page contract in the feeding tray and scanned it in quickly and quietly. The display screen is clear and easily understandable. This is so simple but I like the fact there are two copy buttons. One for Color and one for black and white. For all I know this may be a feature on many multifunction printers but I still like it.Only two dislikes for me and this is in no way a deal breaker.1. I didn't like the Instruction Manual. I wanted to do duplex printing, so before I tried it I looked it up in the manual. The manual was not clear on how to do this; at least it wasn't for me.2. Canon also provides software that is downloaded to your computer. Part of the downloaded software is a desktop interface for the printer. The complete interface in my opinion (for a novice) is not intuitive. At first on the surface of the interface it seems easy but I needed to do more detailed things and the intuitive nature of this interface went right out the window. I was forced to refer to the manual more than once to figure something out. The manual ran me around in circles. Before you all say it. YES, I'm sure if I actually took the time out of my day to read the entire manual I probably wouldn't have had any issues with the desktop interface but honestly I don't have time for this. I use most manuals as reference sources when I need to answer specific questions. So what this comes down to is this...I dislike the manual BUT I LOVE THE MACHINE!!! The only other problem is keeping our cats of it and the cat hair out of it.

Lots of bells & whistles, but I'd get a laser jet if I had it to do over again. HATE that the FAX function is the default: had trouble finding how to change the default -- & who uses FAX anymore???? This was my first inkjet & I was stunned at how much I spend on cartridges --- even after changing to lowest-grade B&W printing!

Pros- Quick, painless set-up. From box to working order in under an hour.- Fast printing speed- Solid to good print quality.- Wireless functionality for multiple computers in one house (or network)- Photo printing, scanner, and copier in one.Cons- Software is intrusive; leaves icons on your desktop you simply don't need with no real way to hide it.- Seemingly excessive packaging.I bought this as a replacement for a really old Lexmark printer from the 90's...so it's been quite awhile since I've spent any money on a printer at all...saw this model over Amazon for a pretty cheap price and decided to go for it as the more expensive models offered features I just didn't care about; I just wanted a printer for every day use, nothing too fancy. From the moment I opened the box, it took about 45 minutes to get it all set up on my computer, so anyone can do it without too many problems. The software is easy to install and my router (rather surprisingly) detected the printer easily...I thought this would be the most annoying part of it by far but it was smooth. I made a few prints in text and of images and they came out looking good; every print job took under a minute to print.Half the set-up job was removing all the plastic wrapping around the printer...there are LOTS, including inside the printer where the ink cartridge is...this seems excessive because it doesn't seem to serve a function except to keep the printer shiny out of the box. I felt like that even with this extra wrapping, the printer is liable to get damaged in the shipping process, which made me question whether or not it was even necessary. While the software installed cleanly and is easy enough to use, it leaves icons on the side of your computer for "your printing needs". Unless you run a print shop, you're not likely to "need" any of these icons, yet there is no way to get rid of them without uninstalling the program, which you need if you intend to print photos. The "Hide icons" feature still leaves an icon on your desktop you just can't get rid of.Photo printing is new to me, but the printer came with a "free" set of photo paper for you to try it on...I was pretty impressed with the job it did; I've gotten worse prints from the store before. As of this review I have yet to use the scanner or copier, but I love that the function is there...using all of these features will probably kill the ink cartridge instantly, but time will tell on that. Ink is median price, and actually cheaper than some HP printers I've looked into...it's cheaper than my old Lexmark cartridges by about 7 dollars. The best part about this printer is that it's small (doesn't take up much space at all), yet does a good job in terms of quality and functionality. I love the wireless feature because now I can print from anywhere in the house, instead of being regulated to one computer for all my printing needs. For the price, I think I definitely got what I paid for...hopefully it stands up to the test of time like my old Lexmark did for so many years.

What a waste of plastic and wire. I cannot believe that you waste valuable resources in producing such poor products as this. Every Canon product I have ever purchased in the past has been top-notch. This A-I-O printer is absolutely, hands-down a P-O-S! I am posting this review just prior to bringing it to a local electronics recycling center and dumping it. It's not even worth posting on Craigslist on the "FREE" section. I urge you! Do yourself a favor and buy something else... or even better... NOTHING!

Having owned this printer for a few weeks now (the price is up substantially since then, I paid $128), I'm happy as can be with it overall. Photo print quality is great, document print quality is great. It isn't the fastest printer in the world, but it's quick enough for my needs and nicely hushed through most of the print cycle. It looks great, and the LCD screen and backlit function buttons are a nice touch.Wireless setup was the easiest connection I've ever made between a peripheral and my computer, wireless or not! Just choose your network from a list of detected networks, enter your SSID and password (I hope you all secure your networks), and that's it. I mean it was perfect and it was easy, and communication between my computer and the printer have been flawless from the start. You'll find that this printer is quite versatile, especially with regard to the types and sizes of paper it accomodates, for a printer in this price range. The included software is the best I've had with any printer I've ever owned, beats HP's software by light years. It's fast and intuitive, flexible but easy enough so that everyone can make good use of it.One note of caution: The ink cartridges are on the pricey side, and especially when printing photos or graphics heavy documents, you're gonna suck up some ink. Lots of it. It might behoove you to look into some ink tank refilling kits if you're going to be doing a lot of printing with this unit. Be careful though, cheap inks are not printer friendly, so be sure you're getting quality ink.The good news is that whether you'll be printing a lot or a little, it's all gonna look great with this printer. Even at the price it's selling for now, I'd buy it again if I had the choice to make over. Hope you find this review helpful. Happy printing :-)

We've used this printer for a few years now and have been very pleased with it.1. The wireless aspect is great because the room we have the computer in does not have the space to accommodate a printer. We keep the printer in the room next door and the wireless communication has never been a problem.2. The picture quality is fantastic. We use premium photo paper and this printer for most of the photos we have on display in our home.3. While this does not have the speed to be a viable printer for a busy business, it is fine for the occasional document.4. The Canon ink can be expensive. We buy in combo packs to save money. I'd stay clear of the generic ink, as the quality is just not there.

December 2011 - Should you desire to purchase the MX882 as a wireless device off of a Mac IOS computer, don't do it.I purchased the MX882 for use as a wireless printer off of a MacBook Pro running 10.7.2 IOS (Lion) and while it works, there are a lot of gotchas and workarounds that most will find frustrating and disappointing.First and foremost, the CD that comes with the MX882 won't even load, forcing the user to obtain everything required to install by downloading from Canon web site. And there is no all encompassing single package or directions on which file to install first. It took me many hours and several attempts to install files and sort things out regarding sequence of apps to use to get the MX882 working.Wireless setup was a piece of cake but I had all the information at hand. I used the MX882 operator panel to setup which was confusing and slow.Printer:Because I am wireless I had to "add printer" twice, once as a CIJNetwork printer and again as a Bonjour printer for scanner support. While the MX882 has duplex (2-sided) printing, it is disabled when you chose borderless paper, no choice. I cannot print directly using my iPhone but have to go through the Mac because the MX882 only supports Bonjour, not AirPrint. And when I print from my iPhone, no duplex though my Canon PIXIMA iP 3000 does.Scanner:In order to make use of the ADF (automatic document feed) one has to either use the Canon software or the Image Capture app. Most apps that have scanner capability cannot see or use the MX882 because of the way Canon failed to implement.Over many years, I have had several Canon printers. I believe in their printing technology and overall excellence. However, the MX882, thus far, has been the worse Canon printer in terms of "plug and play" and operating system compatibility. If and whenever Canon implements better IOS drivers that resolves all the issues I have found, I will remove this review.

This is a great printer for artists. The pictures I printed out were professional-quality and looked amazing. The colors are bright and vivid, the lines are sharp, and the images look very crisp. The fact that it is wireless is a huge plus. I have used Epson printers that are similar to and in the same price range as this Canon printer. When comparing the two, they seem to be about the same in quality to me.It is bulky and big, but that seems to be the norm for expensive, high-quality printers. If you are a serious artist or need a good printer for your business, then you might want to consider buying this one, despite the expensive price. If you just want a printer for your home that you are not going to use much, I would not recommend paying $500.

Updated July 4, 2011: see comments about Vuescan software below.Summary: I've had this printer for about a week. Good price, works fine under Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), just a bit of trouble setting up wireless access because of quirks in my network, highly satisfactory print and scan quality, no significant drawbacks for me so far.I recently upgraded Mac OS X to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) which rendered useless HP's printer driver for my ten-year-old Deskjet 952C. HP didn't produce a new driver for such an old printer, so Apple substituted an open-source Gutenprint driver which works OK for B&W, but not as well for color. At first I planned to get a new standalone inkjet printer, but the only one I found at Best Buy was an HP model that didn't get very good reviews. Everything else was a multifunction unit. I then decided to get one of those so as to replace my old Canon N1240U flatbed scanner too, and reclaim some desktop space. Wireless networking was a nice bonus, although not really necessary because I can connect a printer via USB to one of my Apple Airport Express base stations and use it from my wife's MacBook that way.I settled on the Canon MP560 after seeing Otto Olah's review about setting it up with Snow Leopard, and the other favorable reviews here, and noticing that it was on sale at Best Buy that weekend.During installation, I didn't use the CD at all. I installed only Canon's drivers after downloading them from the Canon web site, using Otto's review as a guide. Setup wasn't quite as easy for me as it was for Otto, because my wireless network had a couple of features which prevented the MP560 from accessing it on the first couple of tries.First, I use MAC address filtering so that only specific devices can connect. I had to look up the MP560's MAC address via Settings --> Device settings --> LAN settings --> Confirm LAN settings --> Wireless LAN setting list, then add it to my Airport Express base station's wireless MAC address list via Apple's Airport Utility.Second, my network's "Radio Mode" was set to "802.11n only", and the MP560 requires 802.11b/g. I had to change to "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)" and restart the network. My printing needs are very light: occasional documents, letters and envelopes for snail mail, maps and other pages from the Web, and some photos. The print quality looks fine to me. Photos come out slightly darker than they appear on the screen in Photoshop, using the photo paper samples that came with the printer, but this is easy to fix by adjusting the levels a bit in Photoshop before printing. My old Deskjet tended to chew up envelopes, so I'm glad to note that the MP560 hasn't done that yet, with either #10 or #6-3/4 size. It does take a long time to print the first page after I turn it on, but overall the speed isn't a problem for me because I don't print a lot and I'm usually not in a hurry. For scanning, I use Ed Hamrick's Vuescan software. It works with the MP560, my old Canoscan N1240U, and my Nikon LS-40 film scanner, using the same interface. The current version of Vuescan (9.0.48, as of July 4, 2011) can control the MP560 using either a USB or a wireless connection.(When I originally wrote this review, I was using Vuescan 8.something, which for some reason could not control the MP560 via a wireless connection, only via USB.)The MP560 scans much faster than the N1240U that it replaced, at resolutions up to 1200 dpi (the max for the older unit). 2400 dpi is very slow even with small objects such as postage stamps, but that extra resolution isn't really useful to me anyway. Unlike the N1240U which was whisper-quiet, the MP560 makes some noise, including a loud buzzing when it resets the scan head at the end of a scan.I see some people grumbling about the price, but look at the prices of the devices that the MP560 replaced for me. The HP Deskjet 952C cost me $200 in 2000. The Canoscan N1240C cost me $150 in 2001. The MP560 is faster and more versatile than both of those, and has wireless networking. It may not be the very cheapest device of its type, but I'm not complaining. It's a quantum leap ahead of what I was using up until a week ago.

I can't give this printer a good review in any category. Out of the box and upon initial use it had a problem feeding the paper through the rollers. Through a lot of hassle, and by switching to a high grade paper, I was able to get it to work. And it worked fine for my purposes for about six week when it began to have paper feeding problems. The paper would go about half way down, quit, and I would get an error message telling me that there was a paper jam. So using the printer's program, I cleaned the nozzle and cleaned the rollers to no avail. It accomplished nothing except using what ink I had left. I tried cleaning the rollers myself manually, but again, no dice. So I finally contacted Canon, and they agreed that yes sirree, I had a faulty printer. And although it was under warranty, I was only entitled to a refurbished replacement. So after waiting almost two weeks the "refurbished" replacement arrived and I returned the original machine. Everything was fine for about a month. I used up the ink sent that came with the refurbished one, and replaced it with two new ex cartridges. Now, one week later it's Deja Vu. The paper won't feed, and I get a jammed paper message. I checked and rechecked the rollers. Cleaned them again using the program. Cleaned them myself manually but again no dice except I've once again used a lot of ink thanks to the very unhelpful cleaning and alignment programs the printer uses. So now I have to decide if it is worth it to go through the hassle of contacting Canon again for another "refurbished" used machine that's going to conk out after a month or so or to just chalk this purchase up to experience and move on to something else.Oh, and you can find other instances of this problem with this printer on the internet, but what you won't find is a solution. Maybe I was just unlucky, maybe you won't be. I was happy with my previous Canon printer purchase before this one, but maybe then I was the lucky one. Good luck to you.Update 4/14/2011: I guess Canon wins this round. I decided I couldn't do without a printer for two weeks, plus go through the whole rigamarole of having to convince Canon their printer sucks. So they'll probably be happy that they didn't have to send me another one, but unhappy to learn that when I get a lemon, especially twice, it's a long time before I'll purchase from that company again. So they lose out in the long run. I decided that I didn't really need a fax machine, that there were several reasonable alternatives on line if I really need to fax something which is almost never. I also didn't need a top quality photo printer because I never print photographs. So for my needs, I ended up settling for an HP Deskjet 3050 that I purchased elsewhere shortly after writing this review. We'll see how it goes.

Over the years I've installed many network printers. This is one of Canon's newest models and it was the easiest yet to install. The PIXMA MX420 also functions as a network sheet-feed or flat-platen scanner, color or black and white photocopy machine and a fax machine all in one low-cost package. I tested its capabilities and they all worked quite well. This device will work just fine when it's connected to a single computer with a USB cable (not supplied) but what is really handy is being able to share its many functions with everybody on the network.Although this device will also work with a CAT-5 network connection, my installation was a good test for this device's Wi-Fi sensitivity. I located this multi-function machine on the second floor and at the opposite end of my home from my wireless router, which is in my cellar. During the set-up process the printer quickly found my Wi-Fi signal. After entering my WEP encryption code into the printer it was ready to be "found" on the network by the installation software. Installing the software and registering the printer on-line went without a hitch.Unlike Canon's higher-end models, such as the PIXMA MX882 which uses five separate ink cartridges (three for color and two for black and white), this model uses only two ink cartridges; one for black and white and the other for color. Using Canon brand glossy photo paper this printer delivered excellent, lab-quality photo prints. Prints on other brands of glossy photo paper were disappointing. On plain photocopy paper, text and graphics look very good.Color prints can also be made directly from compatible cameras and memory cards, simply by plugging them into the appropriate place on the front of the PIXMA MX420 and then using the small LCD color screen to choose what you want to print and how. The scanner works directly with TWAIN compatible applications such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photo-Paint or via the Canon utilities included with this device on the installation disk.If you ever have a problem, Canon has support people who are in the USA, actually answer the phone and can communicate clearly in the English language. My first-hand experience with Canon's support people has been very positive. In summary, this device packs multiple capabilities into a single low-cost package that can be accessed by any computer on the network where it's installed. A step-up to Canon's PIXMA MX882 for an additional cost of $50 to $60 will add a second software-selectable paper source and separate ink tanks for better photo reproduction and lower ink cost on all brands of glossy photo paper.

Color is less than satisfactory. Do not recommend this printer. Update: Unistalled all printer drivers and software for the fourth time. Reinstalled printer. Printer appears to be working again, at least for now. Whatever happened to plug-and-play? Note too that the software for this printer requires 100+ mb of space.

As far as printers were concern, I have always been a HP kind of guy - for a couple of decades now. However, my last couple of HP printers (the last one being HP Officejet 6310 All-in-one) had been pretty disappointing in terms of reliability and ink consumption. I feel that I shouldn't have to be fighting with the printer all the time for it to just work. I'm a technical guy and I still had some major Wifi connectivity issues with the HPs. Also, it seemed to just eat up the inks pretty fast which were not cheap to begin with.I bought this Canon printer after thoroughly reading through the reviews here and on other similar products from various manufacturers. It's been about 6 months now that I have had this printer and it's been almost maintenance free (knock on wood). It just works and I love that about it! Good job Canon. You have got HP beat for sure at least in this particular printer category.

This product works great as a printer- when it actually decides to work.In saying this, I mean that you should not purchase this printer if you are someone who purchases re-manufactured ink. This printer responds to re-manufactured ink as it pleases. I purchased one and it worked for a couple weeks and then just decided to not print, and the printer said that there was no black ink. Assuming that I had used more ink than I thought, I purchased more re-manufactured ink. I put the new cartridge in and it still says no black ink. I then learned that this printer is not designed to recognize re-manufactured ink.As a consumer, I find this unacceptable. I would not advise anyone to purchase this printer or any other Canon products. They intentionally limit our buying choices so that they profit more. Their customer service center is also not available 24/7, which in this day in age is also not acceptable if they want to be a competitive company. I am very unhappy with this aspect of the experience with the printer. I otherwise have not experienced any problems, but I also have not been able to actually print much due to the issues.

This printer has worked great right up through OS X 10.8.2. I have envelopes in the rear tray and use address book to print them. That is rather nice changing colors and fonts. The cassette holds that mid cotton quality for the needs of certain printing needs. It works well. The ink on Amazon and some other third party sellers have worked very well for me for what 2 plus years now.Maybe someday soon an update but the Canon is still putting a great job and this is by Wireless G 2.4

I like the printer. Once I wasn't hesitant about setting it up, I like the machine. Particularly the wireless area. I just have to remember to use the cable when I scan something. Delivery was on time and the package protected the printer.

I use this to print 11 x 17 floor plans. It has worked flawlessly. I can find cheep inks for it so it has become our go to printer. The only con I have with it is there is only one paper tray so if you want to switch paper sizes you have to remove one size and put the other size in. This is a minor hassle and I'd buy this printer again in a heart beat.

Very very slow to print / copy / scan. Drinks ink like a sailor. Cartridges are expensive, and the printer will not recognize refilled cartridges - you must keep buying new one from Canon. Canon forces you to buy all the colors of ink even if you only need black, i.e. when you only want to print in black, but the other colors are low, you have to buy all otherwise the machine will not print. What's far worse is this: if the #$@#$% box is out of ink, it will not even let you use the scanner. WTF? Stop screwing your customers Canon, I am never buying another one of your devices again.

I had the MX700 Canon prior to their scamming me through their loyalty program when it broke down to buy this one with alleged "free shipping" and a discount of which I would pay more than on Amazon. Turns out it wasn't free shipping at all and the total was $139 giving me with about what I'd pay with free shipping on Amazon. The sales person also lied this printer was smaller then my former printer as another sales point. The MX700 was far superior to this model, they have stripped the printer's software interface of many of the great features the MX700 had forcing me to use computer settings for scanning that is often very time consuming and repetitive. It used to be I could choose all the necessary features from the printer itself, but they reduced the choices and none of them work without adjustments on a computer. It really stinks to high heaven, their engineers must be knuckleheads. This printer is a little slower then the MX700 and it's bottom paper tray has less paper feed while they worked on improving their backside paper feed. The improvements they attempted to make on this printer are all usefulness and illusory, nothing of any real value when you're in a hurry and need a PDF scanned for a client to email. This is just a disaster printer, and believe me I was all ready to like it upon arrival. It's a piece of crap and I hate it so much I am going to have to repack it and have Canon pick it up. It's that bad. I'm going back to HP now. Like how dumb do the software designers have to be that it doesn't offer you one PDF for multiple pages that pops up after the scan? Instead you have to check off each one on a lame interface and save it to a folder it forces you to choose.1. Canon has an additional black print cartridge to buy because they want to make money on their cartridges. Think of the added expense of having to pay for a large black inkwell and a smaller black well. Does that make any sense at all?2. Canon did not improve the speed of the printer whatsoever, in fact it is even slower than the MX700. It's scan feed is equally just as slow.3. The design of this printer is also not very good, it's really a very poor design of a round corner box, as compared to the slick MX700 style. They need to fire their engineer team who made this printer worse, not better, than the MX700. People might be impressed with this printer but they wouldn't be had they experienced the MX700.Finally I thought I'd add how sad it is of the slow progress on print technology these days. It should have been far more along by now.The Canon sales person lied on the phone to get a sale. Free shipping my behind!

I love this little printer it's the size of a book. I can't believe I got it for only $100. It prints the pages so nice and clean. And it doesn't have any problem with the chords. I had another printer and the cord never quite fit and it would disconnect in the middle of the prints. This one so much better efficient and the ink is really cheap. I got 10 black ink for $12

This is a pretty good printer. I've given up on non-laserjet HP printers because of all the software problems and consumables cost. I thought I'd give Epson a try. This is a fine printer. As long as you know networking, it was easy to set up in my network. The ink usage is nice because you can change one of six different ink cartridges. In addition, when you're told to change the cartridge you can ignore this message and wait for the print quality to diminish before changing the ink. This is a big savings. The scanning works fine and I can set it up to scan to a network directory. However, this has to go through the primary PC defined to process scans; so make sure this PC is not being used and is turned on (probably not a problem in a network). Also, some of the options on both the front panel and the software are a little hard to figure out.All in all, I'd recommend this printer.

Ok, so I had always bought HP printers, and they would last for a year or two before they died, so I thought I would try a different brand. I bought this printer three years ago. It died yesterday. It does what it says it will do, but it uses a lot of ink, even if you don't use it much. It uses the color ink even when you are printing black and white, even if you set it for grey scale. So if you are like me, and don't print a lot, and don't print pictures, because the pictures don't come out so good, then this is an ok printer. I am disappointed it only lasted three years, but I guess since I paid less than $100 for it, that is not much per year for a printer. If you factor in the cost of ink, it cost me about $100 dollars a year to run it. I can't believe they want $185 for this printer now, it sold for less than $90 most of the time. If you do buy it, remember you are getting a three year old model. The newer models actually do more and cost less.

I love this printer!! When I first saw this printer advertised, I knew it was the printer I'd been waiting for. What was the killer feature? Auto-duplex scanning! I can put a stack of two-sided documents in and have them wirelessly scanned to pdf on my computer (or any of the computers in the house). At the time I was shopping, this was the only scanner on the market with this capability. Even standalone scanners with this feature cost more than this printer. Scanning at standard setting (300dpi) is very quick and high quality. The scanning software that comes with the software is very basic though. It doesn't allow any real adjustments for pdfs scanned using ADF. My only issue with the scanner is the built-ing scanning software tends to skew pages of handwritten notes. I assume it is trying to straighten the page, but always comes out skewed. The pdfs are still useable, just not as perfect as I would like. PDFs scanned straight to Adobe don't exhibit this, so it must be in the printer software. This is especially annoying since Adobe Acrobat has no option to manually rotate pages by anything less than 90 degrees.Overall setup was very easy using the Canon software. Wireless printing also works great. Printing at basic speeds is very good once the wireless connects. Printing and scanning at max resolutions slows the speed of the printer way down though. I have never had any issues with paper jamming, but then again I usually use 22lb paper. Although I prefer to print photos at a photo developer, the printer is able to print very good photos when you are in a pinch. Make sure to use Canon paper though. I tried using some older HP inkjet paper I had laying around, and the quality difference was definitely noticeable.Pros:1.) AUTO DUPLEX SCANNING and COPYING!!2.) Wireless Printing from computers and phones although phones only support printing pictures.3.) Dual paper trays allow for photo paper to be left in one while normal printer paper is in the other.4.) Easy wireless setup using Canon software.Cons:1. It is HUGE. It would not fit on my normal desk and had to get its own table. This was almost a dealbreaker for me.2. Built in software tends to skew pages of handwritten notes when scanned with the ADF.3. No sleep mode without turning power off. LCD will randomly flash on even when no computers are connected to it.Overall if you are looking for an affordable All-In-One printer and plan to do a lot of scanning, look no further than this printer. It can do anything a normal home user would ever need and much more! Just make sure you have space to put it somewhere.

I have only had this a day but I am very impressed. I looked around at alot of printers before I chose this one. I mainly bought it because it supported air print so I could print from my phone or iPod as e mails and pictures are so easy to print this way. I had read a lot of bad things about printers saying they support air print but don't. I think this is a newer model and apple have also added support in the ios 6 update. Air print has worke perfectly so far, no issues at all
Ok you have to install the disk on your pc, but with the USB cable it took 10 minutes was fairly easy then it worked over wifi. I checked to see if my phone could find the printer and it did first time

I had an older model before this with a horrible interface that ate ink like it was going out of style, though, it must be warned this one has a decent amount of nozzles and is very accurate thus consuming a lot of ink itself. The old model was awful. This one at least integrates all the packages Canon has on offer and provides a fairly great experience for most customers based on my working model. Not only does this printer have a glorious UI that actually works this time it has a great efficiency versus quality focus IMO. 5 stars on that front and I have been through my share of printers. If you are NOT looking for very good quality than you should probably look elsewhere as you will be disappointed in how small the ink cartridges are.... You will run through ink if you want lab quality results. On lower settings I think this one is manageable on B&W but you could do better elsewhere obviously for sheer volume and price. Lasers are always recommended if that is all you want.I will not feel bad about spending more ink for this one. It is worth it to me because I don't print a TON and have access to printers at schools and home that can do low quality B&W on a constant basis. I think there are people making this printer out to be what it is not and Canon is being greedy with supplies. My model still works and has of yet had no problems although I rarely Duplex anything. Duplex appears to be not quite up to par and printing one side of the paper in lighter tones. This would be a warning for people who need office work done the most. Again, this is not a straight up office line printer. This is a photo quality printer as well.I got mine from Staples as I traded my older Canon in, paid like 110 or so totally, and I could not be happier except for that these cartridges should be twice the ink for the price. I will not blame that on the printer itself because the quality is all there they are just greedy with rations of ink per cartridge! I also don't particularly like shiny black plastic but it permeates the industry and at least Canon has a matte piece that makes it look very sophisticated and up to the task. Buttons and overall look were slightly redesigned for the better from last year's model and as I said before the UI is the best Canon has ever had for navigating the ample amount of options. It used to be really bad so I can't fault them too much here. It was easy to navigate for me. I will not need another printer for a long time.

I tried to convert an old BJC-80 printer to work with a Win 7 X64 laptop (that has no parallel port). I got a USB to parallel port cable. It works, but there's a 4-minute delay before anything prints (a 2-page document gets you two 4-minute delays). The setup works properly with a Canon S500 printer through its parallel port. It appears that Canon hasn't updated the drivers for the BJC-80 recently.I did uninstall and reinstall the BJC-80, and install the cable first, but nothing helped. Would sure appreciate any advice.Solution from Fixya.com:Disable the bidirectional printing: Printer Properties->Advanced Options->Disable bidirectional printing.

This printer is great! It has a lot of features and they have all functioned properly. I have mine hooked up to our home network of 5 computers, wired and wireless, and none of them have a problem recognizing it. This includes windows xp, windows 7, and OSX. I do a lot of scanning. Both the scanner's resolution and, surprisingly, the included scanning software are worthwhile. Thanks to the printer's light up contextual control panel, and various memory ports, some operations can even be completed without using a computer. Like printing straight from a camera or flash drive. There is even a mobile app from Canon that allows you to print from your phone through wifi, though I've never tried it... As for ink use I'd say it's a bit more than I like, but it certainly isn't a guzzler. That's my only minor complaint about this printer.I've had mine for about a year now and haven't had any major problems yet! A definite recommendation!
