So far this has been a great machine for the money. It prints incredibly fast in black and white, and the copy and fax functions, are intuitive and easy to use. I highly recommend this product in this price range. I only wish the scanning software was more either more robust with more options, or that the scanner could be recognized as a twain source in photoshop, for scanning through photoshop. The scan quality however is quite decent.

As a road warrior, I bought the i70 to replace my old Canon BJC-85, and to use with my Powerbook G4. On the plus side, it is fast and prints reasoably good text, and very good photos if you use photo paper. The black ink tank could be bigger, but that is a minor issue. It is the smallest printer of its type that I have seen. The real problem is that at a certain point, you will have to replace the waste ink tank, something that I did not have to do with previous Canon printers. This is not something you can do yourself; you must send or take the printer to an authorized service facility, and pay around $115 for the replacement. That is equal to half of what I paid for the printer approximately 2 years ago. And if you ignore the warning light, the printer will just quit on you in the middle of an important print job.Cannon says that as a "loyal" customer, they will give you a discount on a new printer, instead of replacing the waste ink tank, however, they will not tell you what that discount is up front. Further, a tech at the service facility told me the newer models, such as the i80 and ip90 have the same flaw engineered into the product. Seems like Canon has decided their authorized service facilities are more important than their customers.I wrote to Canon, and received the reply that my comments would be directed to the appropriate person. I hope so.

Dont be fooled by the low price. The printer uses combined color cartridges with very small capacity. These have to be replaced even if one of the colors gets finished and cost more than the printer. Not sure what canon was thinking - are we supposed to use the printer once and then throw it away instead of getting an ink cartridge.ps : I have traditionally been a big fan of canon having used their photo printers for the last 3 years.

My mom's friend had this printer for some time now. and he gave the printer to her to give to me. So when I got it. I didn't have the installment CD so I went to canon's site and they had software to use for it for free! Alright so I got it all installed, Got new ink or it (since the old ones where empty) and I started it up for the first time in forever! I print something and it came out really swell for an older printer. I was pretty happy with the results for an older printer. I have had no problems with it so far. only thing I am not to happy with is sometimes grey looks kinda green. I am not sure if that's something in genral or what.. But it's kinda nasty. >.<

I bought the S-400 to upgrade from the S-200 that I have been using since it was made available. I love the S-200, as it is both durable and handy. It has also become a great value with recent price reductions. On the other hand, I wanted to get the most recent tech advances in the smallest package, so the S-400 was the clear choice. Here are my initial impressions, and some of the improvements / differences between the 200 and the 400. First of all, Canon has paid close attention to the nits and picks of users of the earlier cameras in the ELPH line. Aside from the addition of cutting edge developments, there have been subtle changes that greatly increase it's ease of use. This is an incredible camera built into a compressed case. Except for being ever so slightly thicker than the S-200, it is the same cigarette pack size. It has a 4 mega pixel sensor, and it is quick and accurate. Color saturation and contrast are outstanding. The lens is very sharp from edge to edge (I tested at various light levels from macro mode (1.5") to infinity focus, and it consistantly produced remarkably fine images). 8x10 prints are outstanding. Period. At long shutter speeds (up to 15 sec), the sensor is remarkably free from "noise". In fact, it does better than many SLR style digicams in all areas of picture quality. The 3x optical zoom is a welcome addition. Now you can take a proper head an shoulders portrait without invoking the relatively lossy digital zoom, or suffering from the effects of distorted facial features caused by getting too close with a too short lens. When you need it though, the digital zoom offers up to 11x total zoom power, and returns pretty good results as digital zooms go. The 400 retains the special effects lineup of the 200, and they work very well. The tonal range of the black & white option is a real treat. The final result isn't exactly Panatomic X quality, but it is really good, and your darkroom for artistic dodging and burning is contained entirely on your hard drive. The case is still steel, but has a ceramic coating that is supposed to be even more scratch resistant. It is also much "whiter", and offers MUCH better contrast when you read the various control labels. While the contols are similar, they are also marked with larger and bolder lettering. All in all, a big improvrment. The michrophone was moved from the front to the top of the case. I think the front makes more sense, but it works very well on top. Canon also included a tiny (but effective) speaker in the 400. You can now select or create sounds for all camera functions (even a "real" shutter sound), as well as make voice notes for each photo taken if desired. Most sound functions are individualy adjustable for volume, and several sound "themes" are included. Techno-tinkerers might enjoy customizing the photo displayed upon startup. Movie preview also has sound now.On the subject of movies, the 400 makes a little tradeoff. The max resolution is no longer 640x480, it is 320x240 (which is fast becoming standard for movies from still cameras). On the other hand, it is not limited to 10 seconds anymore. You can now make clips up to 3 minutes each. Computer playback looks very good. TV playback isn't bad at all. As a pocket sized way to film Junior taking his first bike ride without training wheels, it can't be beat. The shutter button and zoom ring are a little larger, and now feel just right. The 400 has also incorporated the mode selector wheel used on other high end Canon cameras. This is long overdue, as it makes using all of the many features and modes a real joy. Red eye appears to be better than before, but I don't expect much from such a close coupled flash / lens combo, and who really cares, as it is corrected with a click of the mouse before you print a photo. A few MAJOR improvements are the 9 zone Ai AF, and new (yellow) focus assist. If you were not careful, the 200 could return slightly out of focus shots, and in low light, the focus assist sometimes didn't. That has been fixed. The 9 zone intelligent AF really does an amazing job, and the new focus assist achieves lock under a much wider range of difficulty than the old system. The built in flash has a generous range for a tiny camera, and the coverage is very even. Shooting a blank wall within the range of the flash shows no "hot spots". The metering options are still program, center weighted, or spot, but the program mode seems to have been given a big boost. The 200 does very well, but the 400 is on par with the SLR class for getting it right the first time. Exposure bracketing is +/- 2 EV, slow synchro flash is still there to boost background brightness when needed, the panoramic stitch mode is still a treat, and, in general, this is nothing less than a James Bond version of a full featured, top quality 4+ megapixel digital camera. The only tradeoff is that a full sized camera with similar features might offer a larger lens aperture. That can extend your non flash low

This is the first digital camera I have ever purchased (I bought it for myself as an early graduation present), and I read tons of reviews before settling on this camera. This is the ideal camera for people who like to carry around a camera all the time because of its compact size, and it takes EXCELLENT pictures!Pros: compact size but big enough to easily hold onto it, works well indoors and outdoors, flash is great, almost no delay when you press the button and when it takes the picture (a problem I noticed with other cameras), pictures come out with very high resolution even when they are cropped and enlarged, the screen on the camera moves very quickly and smoothly, you can adjust many of the modes with the buttons on the camera rather than going to the menu option (very convenient for changing the flash option quickly), the software makes it VERY easy to upload your pictures onto your computer, the battery charger is very easy and convenient to use, and the case for this camera fits like a glove if you decide to purchase it.Cons: no battery life indicator (I solved this problem by purchasing an extra battery to carry around with me), screen is kinda small. As you can see, the pros greatly outweigh the cons. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone. My dad is a fanatic about taking pictures (not sure what kind of Canon he has, but I think it is a Canon Digital Rebel), and the pictures I take with my camera are comparable in quality with his. I have had my camera for almost 3 months now, and I have never had any problems with it! It took perfect pictures for my prom and graduation, and all my friends were begging for copies of my pictures because they were so great. If you are debating over getting a lower megapixel (like the 4 megapixel version of this Canon), I'm sure it would also work as well as this one (especially if you are going to buy normal 4x6 prints for most of your photos), but I have never had any experience with that particular camera. Canon seems to make high quality cameras, and this particular model would be the perfect camera for anyone.

I purchased the Canon I80 printer as I wanted a small portable unit for training and conference events. The unit has broken down multiple times, the heads dry out and get clogged all the time and every time I turn around something else goes wrong...I purchased the unit for $250 and have spent as much keeping it going and only used it 12 times. It has now failed again and they want another $240 to fix it. Really a waste of money. I would not buy this product again.

The unit was DOA from Amazon, however, Canon promptly supplied a replacement unit. Two complaints: it seems to reject cartridges as empty or in need of reseating frequntly and the paper cassette generates a frequent feed or jam error. For a photo printer the colors are considerably off compared to my Canon i9900, but overall results for printing, copying and FAXing are good.

Naturally, when you are spending over $150 on a photo printer, you expect an excellent result. This printer delivers. The results when printed on photo paper are indistinguishable from a professionally developed photograph in most instances.I had some problems getting the printer to work initially; it was dead on arrival. This is where I decided I would discover what kind of company I was dealing with. I called canon and was, within five minutes, being told I would have a new printer overnighted to me. It arrived and worked beautifully. Not only did it arrive, it came with a fully paid return shipping label and instructions that I could keep all of the extra ink (around $70 worth), the extra print head, the free samples of photo paper that came with the printer etcI do have four complaints with the printer. First, I have found, that if one is printing extremes of white light on a human face, it tends to print out as a large white splotch rather than a finely graded result. The result looks somewhat like the person was heavily sweating and had a lot of glare; this is my main complaint.Second, the printer requires a USB cable to connect to your computer but does not have one packaged with it. Radioshack supplied me with one for around five dollars; surely canon could have put one in the box.Third, I have a dual boot computer that runs on windows and linux. Setting up this printer was easy in windows and the software it comes with makes it a breeze to print pictures on any size paper. However, canon has no linux support. If I had known this beforehand, I might have actually gone with an equivalent Hewlett Packard printer as HP has a lot of linux support.Fourth, the software it comes with deals only with .jpg files. If you have something in any other format, for example, you have to have a separate program that can convert it into .jpg format. These are easily available over the web, but it seems like a reasonable oversight that canon doesn't support anything else out of the box.My absolute favourite feature of this printer is the clear ink cartridges: this was what initially made me consider canon above anyone else. The fact that I can see how full the print cartridges are is a wonderfully liberating feature; I can actually SEE what's going on in there. Combined with the fact that each colour is an individual cartridge and very inexpensive, canon have a winning idea here.In summary, I have to say I am extremely pleased with my purchase. None of the above complaints is anything major, probably the worst is the lack of a USB cable which is easily correctable; I imagine you could order one through amazon so it is delivered simultaneously.

I bought this camera when it first hit the market. I have been a Canon fan since the late 60's, and although I have used pretty much every film format except 8x10, I have found that the smallest cameras were the ones that were at hand most often. My old Canon G17QL was my first "small" camera with a quality lens, and it still takes good images after 25 years or so. When the Elph APS series came out, I bought one, and I was hooked. It offered far more than the typical point and shoot camera of the day, and sported a great lens protection system, as well as an armored metal body. I carried it in my pocket for several years, and it always gave great results. The only problem was the continuing expense of film. I dreamed of the day when digital technology caught up with film. The wait is over. The S-200 has the diminutive size of the APS Elph cameras, as well as the pocket proof lens protection. It is also all but bulletproof with it's tough stainles steel body. This camera is loaded with quality features. With a 128 meg memory card...it is ready to take 128 gorgeous max resolution pics. The color, exposure, and overall quality of the pictures will amaze you. Even the short movie clips the camera can take are of high quality, and have wonderful sound. There are larger cameras that have similar features for somewhat less money. There are also larger cameras that cost more than the Elph. With the exception of the 4 megapixel S-400 though, I can't think of any that offer better image quality and features in as small and durable a package. Even then, the S-400 costs much more. If the S-200 takes a trip over Niagra falls, it is a lot easier to deal with. I just ordered the new S-400 Elph to satisfy my incurable desire for leading edge photographic toys. It is a little heavier than the S-200, but has all of the latest refinements, including an extended movie mode. It also costs $... Even after it arrives, my S-200 will still be the camera that is always in my pocket, ready to go at a moments notice. Consider this; After eight months of constant abuse (just stuffed into any convenient pocket with keys, dirt, whatever, on a daily basis), it doesn't show any signs of wear. Plastic cameras simply can't compete. The lens door is so well made that despite it's working environment, I have never had dirt penetrate to the lens surface. After taking well over 2,000 photographs, it performs like new, and delivers high quality SLR class images. It makes better 5x7 images than many larger 3 megapixel cameras, and delivers solid 8x10 performance. If you have a computer, you can enjoy and manipulate all of your work without spending a fortune on processing fees.Last, and most important, is the simple truth that this camera is so small and tough that you will carry it with you with no more fuss than a ring of keys. After all, the best SLR in the world is useles if it is sitting at home when a photographic opportunity pops up in front of you. If you can only justify one digital camera for all of your family photographic needs, get the S-200. You will be amazed. If you can justify as many cameras as you would like, get the S-200 or the S-400. I bet it will become your most often used camera.Update (3/23/03). When I ordered the S-400, I also ordered a 24x 250mb Compact Flash card. The 24x refers to how fast the card can store an image. It also determines how fast you can take another picture. I bought this card for the S-400, but the card arrived first, so I tried it in my S-200. At the time the S-200 was made, 128 meg was the largest card available, and I wasn't sure if a larger card would work properly. The results were fantastic. The S-200 had no problem recognizing the 250mb card right out of the box. The 24x write speed makes taking sequential photos without flash seem like a motor drive was installed (sequential flash photo speed is limited by flash recharge time on any camera). Best of all, the S-200 with the 256mb memory card will take over 250 (that's right, 250!) max resolution photos without having to download or carry a spare memory card. That could well be an entire vacations' worth of pictures in the palm of your hand. The price of the S-200 has dropped since I bought it. The cost of high speed 256mb Compact flash memory today is about what I paid for the 128mb card when I bought the camera. This makes the combination an even better value than before. If cash is no problem, buy the S-400. It is simply awesome with the quantity of up to date features packed into the tiny steel case, but if you prefer an album full of beautiful 5x7 or 8x10 prints from an inexpensive pocket dynamo, but this combination. You won't regret it. By the way, there are many brands of Compact Flash memory available, and several offer high speed. The brand I bought was Lexar. I'm sure others will work just fine, but Lexar offered the fastest (24x) at the time, and I know it works with the Canon line. They also include a USB adapter with the 256mb card,

At first after doing a little research i found that the this printer had the best capabilities to be a wireless printer and that i'll be able to print what i wanted in any situation. And it has surpassed many of what i spected for it.Good printing quality, rather fast for such a small printer, very light in weight and has a very slick design (it looks much better than the HP competition), the software that comes with it works fine, i bought the bluetooth add-on with the battery for complete wireless capabilities, overall a very good COMPUTER printer. In the previous paragraph you must have noticed i capitalized the word "COMPUTER", and that's were it's short in its capabilities there's no support, printing system or driver for PDA's, yes it is capable of printing via bluetooth and infrared, but personally i had problems through infrared that the printing came with miscellaneou characters, i had to get a third party printing software for my pda which i was able to print but the software that i could get can only print Word documents, Excel and typed notes but no hand writing, so no support for PDF or photos, or whatever other thing.I contacted Canon regarding this problem, asking is there a way that i'll be able to print on this equipment from my PDA?, and it seems that Canon has decided that the only way to support this devices is through some protocols called OPP or BIP, but this protocols mostly come in cellphones not in PDA's.So the conclusion is if you are not going to print from a PDA and your going to use your computer instead it's a great buy. If your a looking for a PDA printer better stick to the HP models eventhough you have a Palm PDA or any other brand.

I have had the printer for over six months now. We use it at work and print a large number of 4 X 6 photos. We are delighted with the photos and with the text printing we have done. And I'm very fond of the dual paper paths, since we can keep the photo paper in the bottom tray with the letter paper in the upper slot. The multiple ink tanks are very economical, reasonably priced and despite being small they go a long way. Sometimes it is hard to see the lcd screen in the area we have the printer, but besides that it is really great to be able to print a fast photo without booting up the computer.I do have just a few observations about the printer, the paper and the ink.As I indicated above, the backlighting of the lcd isn't the best, and sometimes it is very hard to see what you are printing. Even changing the angle of the screen doesn't always help. I'm going to be readjusting the task lighting in the area soon. If you are limited in the placement of the printer you may need to do the same. The printer will start nagging you to change ink cartridges long before you actually need to do it. I think of the first message as really a reminder to buy a new cartridge when you go out. Unless you are printing a photo that is almost all one color or a page that has been almost entirely blacked out, you should have more than enough ink to print a minimum of half a dozen 6 X 4s or a ten page letter.I don't know which HP paper another user was using but the photo paper we tried wouldn't take the ink at all. The resulting prints where interesting, they ended looking like a matte multicolor paint crackle effect over a black background when they finally dried, But no one would have been able to tell you what the original image was. I would be very careful about the HPphoto paper. Sure try it if you already have it or are given it, but If I was buying it, I'd get the smallest pack possible until you know for sure it will work. All in all, this is one fine printer, for both text and photos.

I have had this little baby for over 1 year now and have no complaints what so ever about the print quality. For a little printer, the quality is stunning.I also bought the battery pack so printing on the go from a laptop is simple. The battery pack has provided more than enough life, lasting more than my laptop's battery. The one complaint: very poor Mac OS X software. I mean very poor. Mac users aren't used to being asked to confirm dumb questions multiple times like PC users are.For example, there are 2 menu options to access settings regarding the ink levels and neither of them are clear. If you choose: Ink Level Information why should you have to click 'update?' Shouldn't the software update the information before displaying it? This is like one of those annoying PC Wizards that ask you the same question multiple times. The other choice regarding ink is "Remaining ink level setting'Unfortunately you have to reset the ink level settings manually...a major annoyance and inconvenience. This is done by clicking the obvious Ink Counter Rest Button in the Remaining ink level setting screen. But why is there a Remaining Ink Level Indicator Setting button? There is another menu option that displays the current ink level so what's this for? Whatever it does, it sends some message to the printer. Maybe an ink level setting reset? If so, then shouldn't the other button have done it already? Are you getting confused? see what I mean!?Who knows. It is just stupid and confusing. The ink level indicators are almost never right anyway, so be prepared to have to change ink cartriges in a trial and error fashion when your print quality doesn't seem right. As a matter of fact, when there is something wrong with your print quality, don't expect the Print Utility to be much help at all.For example, When you choose "Cleaning" there is a button that says -Cleaning: Starts print head cleaning.' What do you think will happen when you click this?Nope. It gives you an option with check boxes: All Colors, Black, or Color. then an 'OK' button. So you have chosen the colors you want to clean and click 'ok' so what do you think will happen now?Instead of the printer beginning to clean the heads, you are given an alert box that Asks "Clean the Print Head?" and you have to click 'OK' again.Geeez..... talk about annoying! Just clean the damn heads already!!!! The softweare doesn't seem to know it was written for Mac OS X and not Windows. It's a shame the software is soooo bad, because this is otherwise a really great printer. If you get this printer, you will love the photos, but be prepared to spend a lot of $$ on ink and get a little frustrated when you need to use the utility.

I can give this printer a high rating because the price makes it an exceptional buy.It works great with the Mac and printing from Adobe Elements gives me the most consistent quality results of all. There are some drawbacks related to printing at home, cost being one of the biggest. Another can be getting prints that are not true to color. This printer integrates well with the computer color management and using a variety of papers.Ink is expensive no matter which system you use so I won't bother griping about the price for Canon's. These cartridges do install cleanly and easily and pop consistently into alignment. One thing I am surprised I didn't see mentioned much was the speed with which this thing prints. By far the fastest 8 X 10's at high quality of any printer I have owned. I mean significantly faster too.Good luck!

For the price, you can't find a better quality printer than this one. Easy to use, easy to load, easy to change settings, easy to be satisfied with your purchase. Highly recommended. I have had excellent results both for photograph printing (large size, excellent resolution) and regular page printing.

I have had this camera for about 3 years now, and I find it to be an amazing camera for the average person. I am not a professional photographer, yet I can capture some great shots with this little guy.Recently, I got the "memory card error" that has been mentioned in a few of the reviews. I also read the trick (taking the face off and popping out the internal battery and putting it back in) and gave it a try. This worked wonderfully, and I am so happy that I don't have to get a new camera!I can't say that I have ever had any problems other than the memory card issue. The S400 has been very pleasing.Canon is great!

I will start by saying I buy cheap ink for my printer. And I will follow that by saying HOLY COW can you get some SUPER CHEAP INK for this printer!!! (generic, of course). The photos that print look good and I don't mind the quality, but they certainly aren't comparable to real photos from a lab. But it works for what I need it to, it prints normal text really quick, and I couldn't be happier (mostly b/c the ink is soooooo cheap!)

My original I80 was purchased in June of 2004. By January of 2005 it was replaced due to a print head malfunction. Cannon replaced such with a refurbished model. Here it is March of 2006 and an error message is preventing documents from printing. Error message - Waste ink absorber full, check page 60 or so of your manuals for a description which includes contacting Cannon customer care. Response from Cannon customer care - bring it to an Authorized Service Facilty, cost $50.00 or so for the part and to re-set the printer. Or purchase a new one through Cannon loyalty Program with the whopping "Thank You" discount of 10%. I applaud the transport convenience, the small ink cartridges, the compact design, the ability to print borderless pictures. Somehow or another I have difficulty with the "not mentioned" maintenance cost of $50.00, for an average user, waste ink absorber. For self serving purposes - does anyone have an idea what a waste ink absorber is? I'm going back to my old ink jet printer which over the last five years has never needed extra maintenance nor something to absorb wasted ink.

This all in one is very easy to use and easy on the ink. After the first sheet it prints fast. It loads paper on top and bottom feed, I have only used the top feed so far, but everything else on this wonderful all in one printer works great.

We've used this printer a little over one year and loved it. Unfortunately, now it is plagued with problems. First of all the print head is extremely sensitive to drying out and is very difficult to impossible to clean using the printer's clean function or doing it manually. Canon offers a replacement head for $65. Next the ink cleaning reservoir with normal use will fill up in about a year. To replace it will cost $120 and is only available through Canon. The print does travel well which is its intended use, but for an everyday printer you might want to look elsewhere.

Even though I have used my printer (a Pixma 5000) very lightly, it jams regularly on Canon photo paper and then spills ink everywhere. Today it went into "service error 5700" and it doesn't work any more, even after rebooting it five times.I will not buy a Canon printer ever again.

I gotta say this is the best printer I've ever owned and for me, with having owned 7 different printers in my life so far that's saying a lot.I used to be an Epson man, but this lil' baby has changed my mind. I've owned 4 Epson 900's and a 1200 and now two of these Canons to date. All the Epsons died due to injet head clogging and I just got sick of tossing money down the drain and jumped ship with them.So I got two Canons instead. One for my studio and one for the kids. The Canon PIXMA iP6000D Photo Printer is whisper quiet when it prints, (unlike the Epsons I've owned) prints out beautiful photos even on the plain paper setting (unlike the Epsons I've owned) and even has a built-in card reader that you can view, crop AND print photos directly from in a snap!I really like the fact that it has 6 ink cartridges instead of three because it ultimately saves a lot of ink for you.The software you install is cool too because it tells you and shows you visually how much ink is left in the cartridges which I love because you won't run out of ink the night before you're set to pitch a big presentation.I have learned that ink takes a long time to drain out of the cartridge and sometimes even after the software has told me that the cartridge is out of ink, I can still print for a week or more!Lastly it has an extra USB port on it's front allowing you to daisy-chain another peripheral to it which can come in handy now and then.I highly recommend this printer whether you are a hobbyist, a business person or an artist (which is what I am)because it always has come through for me. Thanks Canon!

I bought this printer with a Canon digital camera in an inexpensive bundle. I quickly outgrew the camera, so I figured I had to upgrade my printer as well. I tried a few other printers which were highly touted by the imaging gurus, but they didn't do any better than this one. I don't know how much I would have to spend to beat my i455.However, the aftermarket inks that I have tried are really bad, so I stuck with Canon inks and my results were much better.

I got one of these Canon NB-1LH batteries, expecting it to be Made in Japan. Surprisingly, it says it's Made In China. I thought Canon OEM batteries were all Made In Japan (like the battery that came with my S400 camera), but apparently that's not the case. Hopefully, the battery won't behave like many of the 3rd party NB-1LH batteries I've seen that are Made In China and don't hold their charge that well.

I am pleased with the Canon Pixma, the only problem I have experienced (I am using it to do edible imaging on cakes) is that the pictures tend to come out a little on the red side, so I have to 'turn down' the redness in the printer box. I don't know if that would be true if I were using traditional photo paper or not. It's a good printer though. I am glad I bought it. All of the people I have done cakes for with it have been satisfied!!

I bought this printer as a portable to use with my laptop for real estate transactions "in the field". I find myself using it frequently at home when I need a quick color print.I don't use it for photos, so I can't comment on that. For business graphics it is great. Fast, quiet and portable. The only negative I've found is the paper handling is marginal. It often will feed more than one sheet of paper at a time, so it needs attention to get a satisfactory multi-page print job.I'm using "compatible" ink cartridges. This saves tons of $$$ and so far seems to work fine. I'd buy this printer again!
