I still recommend it though.
Some detail:
Positive
I found easy to set up
Print is fast enough for home
Quality is good
Photo's good
Conectivity to OneDrive GoogleDrive etc is great if not slow to set up
OEM inks available
WiFi printing works from all PC's, tablets, phones etc
Google print works as well as Canon's own software
Negative
Sending scans to somewhere was a bit odd unless directy connected to PC
Can't seem to get it to stay on double sided as a default (my issue maybe)
Envelope printing had US defaults and got me upset
I'd recommend printer and sugegst that I need to google my issues. It's a 'buy' from me.
Couldn't find anything comparible at the price, if that changes fair enough!
Pros:
+ Nice print quality. I've printed photoes and documents, and they all have come out lovely.
+ The scan was rather quick in comparison to my old Epson, and could reach a higher DPI which I like.
+ The printer comes with some smaller glossy photo paper, a nice freebie.
+ The UI on the display is rather nice, and quick. It shouldn't give you much trouble, and thankfully it doesn't have a touchscreen, instead using some tactile buttons.
+ The paper tray folds into the machine (as shown in my images), and works as a cover for the internals of the printer. A nice addition that should keep things nice and protected. Not to mention the folded up look is pleasing to the eye.
Neutrals
+/- At first glance it's a nice looking printer. It's got some matte finish that looks rather nice. Then it has some glossy parts, and these up-close look REALLY cheap, and do pick up finger marks. Not nice, but the overall style and what they were going for does look good. Just a shame about the cheaper looking plastic.
-/+ So far I'm using my pre-packed ink, and right now I'm looking to get some more. The samples offered after a few prints (in one day) are pretty much gone. Might be worth picking some up if you plan on getting this printer and plan on doing a lot of prints.
-/+ I've been told this printer is rather loud, I kinda disagree and find it rather middling for a printer in this category of product.
Cons:
- No paper tray for long time storage of paper.
- Slow printing, doesn't bother me, but would bug some who're a bit unpatient.
- The printer was a HUGE pain to set-up. For starters the website to access drivers and software just directs to the Cannon home page, meaning you'll have to use a search engine (Google, DuckDuckGo, etc) to find waht you need. Just search for "Cannon MG5750 support", and you should be able to get what you need; The wired connection set-up failed after over an hour of trying.
- Might as well not include wired functionality if it doesn't work right, check the above point for more details. I had to use the printer wirelessly, not ideal for my needs.
- The Cannon app requires the use of location data on Android, this is quite frankly absurd. Printer software SHOULD NOT require that to actually be functional. Very sketchy, and a bad move Cannon.
So conclusion, this printer is far from perfect. It has several issues, but it is a nice product for those who don't mind it's shortcommings. The print and scan quality is good for the price, and I would suggest picking this up. Just make sure that you're okay using the wireless connection.
The constant error codes showing no paper until you nudge the paper is beyond tiresome, its highly frustrating.
I wouldn't buy another and would love a better printer for the money from Canon
I have to wait a number of minutes for it to print a simple document. This is because it whirrs and clicks and does what it needs to do to get itself set.
When I say I wait for it to print a simple document, this is dependent upon it actually picking the paper up and taking it through the feed tray. Which it almost never does first time.
Doing a maintenance job and a single print taking at least 5 minutes is not conducive to experiencing an easy print job.
I was not enamoured with my previous Canon printer either. With my experience of this one I can easily state that I'll not be purchasing another one.
So, for £59.99 I purchased original Canon inks and instead of 5 inks I received just 4. Put these in and got an error message for the one ink I did not receive.
My main use with this is/was to do scanning as I do a lot of this. But because there is an issue with the ink I cannot use the scanner.
So before you but this understand that you will be paying out almost this price again with no guarantee of you using again possibly. A choice? Buy ink or a new printer!
Sorry but I have been using Canon for years and always used compatible inks with no trouble util now and why it should stop the thing from scanning I have no idea!
A con and a swizz! Never will I purchase a canon anything ever again!
The description implies that you can scan and print separate documents, independent of each function.
Unless the machine has ink cartridges in it that it likes, it won't scan, even if you don't want to subsequently print the documents, and this cannot be overridden.
After not using the machine for a time, right in the middle of the Covid -19 crisis I've just tried to scan some medical records into it for sending to my GP. The machine won't let me do this until I change the cartridges, and I can't find any new cartridges because the shops are shut, regardless of the fact that I don't want to print anything.
That is after Canon sending numerous online requests for information about the machine after it became my property, and so none of their business. This is almost as if they are monitoring my use of the machine
Don't buy Canon. There's something very sinister about their business practices.
I'd rather pay more for a robust printer that will last the course than have a cheap one with expensive ink. I just couldn't find one with all the features of my old MG5450.
Canon MG5700's support is simply poor. For one thing, the English-language menus on the printer display frequent typos and grammatically incorrect expressions. For example, whenever I try to set up a connection of any kind, the printer says: "Please wait momentarily...". Wait momentarily? Like in. "wait in a moment"? What does that mean? Yes, you can say: "he paused momentarily" or "he stopped momentarily", but the only use of the expression: "wait momentarily" in the Internet can be found in postings that report problems in Canon installation! It is a small annoyance, but if Canon cannot get simple English-language menus correct, that surely does not inspire confidence.
When performing the installation (I simply need to connect to my own laptop, not to create a network printer or anything like that), the menus and user instructions are of little help. When you run into problems, Canon tells you to do a direct connection using USB cable -- which they do not supply with the printer. Not very helpful given you need a fairly rare USB A-male to B-male version.
And then, the USB connection does not work (I set the direct cable connection option correctly in the printer menu). Possibly a technical fault with the printer, I do not know (currently communicating by email with their support, no response thus far). UPDATE: Ordered a new USB cable. That one did not work either. So possibly a problem with the particular printer I have. If so, it can be replaced (still communicating with their support, which is slow). But the problems extend beyond technical faults.
I was able to get the printer to connect using both the network router option and the direct wifi option (one option is to sign the printer up to a given wifi network and then use the printer through that network, the other is for you to sign to the device's own wifi network with device-supplier password that you may eventually find if you browse the device's menu settings for long enough). But neither one allows me to check the printer status, which requires -- the USB connection. More importantly, it is difficult to check exactly which wireless connection option is currently in use.
UPDATE: Here are some of the joys of using this device. As explained earlier, USB connection is out of the question for now. I can print but cannot check device status or run diagnostics because this requires USB connection. So: I print using the direct wifi (which somehow appears to work even if I am not connected to the printer's own wifi. Perhaps the one-off sign-in was sufficient, I have yet to discover a way to verify this assumption). But then I wanted to scan a document. Surprise: the printer asked me to connect with an USB cable since it could not find any PCs connected to it. No matter that I had just printed a document from my laptop in a direct WiFi connection mode (i.e., not connected through a router) -- and my laptop was perfectly capable of recognising the connection. But apparently this recognition is not recognised, since if I try to scan, the printer says it cannot find my laptop.
So back to fiddling with connection settings. I re-sign the printer to my home WiFi network (the 'WiFi router' connection). Now I am able to scan, and the resulting pdf document appears in the right place in my laptop. Great. Let us print the resulting pdf document. No can do: now my laptop says the Canon printer is not connected. Because the WiFi direct connection is broken. So I need to reconnect in the direct WiFi mode to be able to print again.
You get the picture: to use any of the different modes of the printer (print, scan, copy), you always have to re-create the connection if you want to switch to a different mode.
Learning all of the above has taken me perhaps six hours of trial and error. The opportunity cost of my time (I could have done productive work instead) is several times the price of the printer -- and I am not a particularly high-priced expert. Why oh why cannot Canon get even the basics right? Because the basics are simple enough: (1) download and install the device drivers to your laptop; (2) switch on the printer; (3) either connect through cable or sign the printer to your WiFi network; (4) recognise the printer on your laptop and start using it. Five minutes max. How on earth can they fail to get this right? Perhaps at least a partial answer is belied by the fact that they cannot get even their English grammar correct.
The hardware appears poor quality. The power plug gives in when I insert the power cable, and the connection is mechanically flimsy. Overall, the hardware does not feel like it is solidly put together, and the different plastic parts feel like they might fall off at any time.
The print quality appears average. I have not printed a lot, especially not in colour, so cannot say much more.
The printer's footprint on my desk is larger than some alternatives I have experience from.
In the end, I will likely end up returning this printer, simply because my experience thus far does not inspire confidence that I would not run into problems later after the time window for returning the product has expired.
Not happy. Could have done without the hassle and waste of time. It is disappointing that Canon cannot create a printer that would be easy to set up. Getting a printer to perform a smooth self-installation really is not that difficult.
Why didn't they update the highly regarded MP 640 instead of making this non-starter. If you have time to waste trying to do simple print tasks, this is for you. I'll salvage my MP640, and put this rubbish on ebay for 99P - (which is what it probably what Canon paid its designer).
The printer was very easy to set up on wi-fi using the included documentation.
Separate ink tanks with 2 blacks.
Clear and quick printing.
Canon software easy to use on PC just might want to install some of the apps not all.
Works under Linux over wi-fi with little problems.
Duplex printing.
Easy to use interface.
Works with Google web printing.
Cons:
Canon original inks are expensive
The display can only be read from high angles.
Paper management is a little basic (single source, no CD printing, pages tend to float off output tray)
Some software features only present if using original manufacturer inks.
No duplex scanning.
Paper feed is peculiar as you put the paper on the tray then push the tray into the feeder which seems bizarre but works, if limiting the number of pages at any one print.
Connecting the WiFi from the printer requires completing the password for your wifi provider on a tiny screen with the alphabet showing but no numbers!
The guide suggests plugging a 'USB' from the PC into the back of the printer without confirming the connection is nicely concealed in a corner pocket.
The cartridge replacements costs seem reasonable, even with the XL selection.
Installed no problem and configured my PC, phone and chrome notebook to printer again with no issues.
However when printing A4 paper size it misses off lines from top or bottom or down one side sometimes despite having adequate and usual heading, side and footer space on document on A4 document. I am waiting for my more technologically savvy son to visit to see if he can work out why. On old cannon printer paper went into tray with a side bar to hold in place but new one does not have this feature. I have lined paper up between paper tray edges and paper moves through printer ok and even does two sided printing sometimes ok then sometimes not.
I would like to see a complete list of technical details physical and sizes etc. Also a source of replacement Ink cartridges.
Negative - it is very noisy whenever it prepares print, prints and after the printed sheet has been ejected.
but after 9 yrs,it had seen its day,I sent for this,one from a seller on amazon,it wouldn’t pick up wi fi,it wouldn’t
scan, unless you had a usb cable, but having an I- pad this was no use,the price for the ink was really expensive,
so returned it got a refund, bought another make just as bad,now I have a cannon, which works great and I get
ink from sellers on amazon really inexpensive.
PS I have not idea what 'warmth' means re a printer (one of the features to accord stars to) so have given it one star as that's a much warmth as I have towards the thing itself........
Clearly Canon don’t monitor these reviews or don’t care, and haven’t solved the problem, so I’ve decided to drop to a one star review.
If you don't mind walking to your printer and setting the paper every single minute then this printer is for you.
I can't fault the print quality but the paper feed is a nightmare, to say the least.
I print 100 pages and every 2-8 pages it tells me there is no paper in the printer when clearly there is. It's soooooooooooo frustrating. It doesn't carry on with the print either so you have to go back to print settings and start all over again from the last page printed.
If you value your sanity do not get this printer.
If we could, we would send this back and spend more on a better model.
