Pros:1) Compact Size2) 4.0 Megapixel Camera!3) 3x Optical Zoom, 3.6x Digital Zoom4) CompactFlash media with High Speed CompactFlash support.5) Improved Movie Record Mode (up to 3 minutes with High Speed CompactFlash card)6) 9 point AiAF system (Artificial Intelligence AutoFocus) (S200 has 3 point AiAF system)7) DIGIC processor (specialized processor made by Canon specifically for digital cameras... supposedly improves camera photo quality)8) iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) for improved camera focus and white balancing.9) Direct printing to DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) compatible printers.10) Accepts the original Lithium-Ion batteries of the S110 and S300 cameras.11) Adjustable ISO settings from 50 to 40012) Self-Timer from 2 or 10 secs13) Continuous Shooting mode14) Stainless Steel Casing.15) Built-in speaker16) FUNC button like S45/S50 PowerShots for easier navigation through camera options especially in manual mode.17) More rounded body gives a slightly sleeker look to the S400. Cons:1) Short Battery Life but seemed better than S2302) Flash is weak especially in nighttime settings with no additional lighting and at 3x zoom.3) Additional Batteries from Canon are Expensive. J&R sells non-Canon brands for as low as $...4) Tripod mounting now on far left side of camera (you are looking at the back of the camera5) Minimal Accessories available for the camera My Opinion:...I brought 3 different camera with me. The S230, S45, and the S400 up to Boston while I do a bit of sightseeing between interviews. The reasons why I brought 3 of my camera was to see which camera will have the higest quality of picture.I took photos of the Cambridge area, the Northern docks, and of Fenway with all three cameras... and of close up and group photos with my friends in the area. The fastest camera to start up was the S400. In fairly close up photos and group photos in daylight or good lighting situations, there wasn't a discernable amount of difference between the three cameras especially after printing out the photos on a photo-quality inkjet printer. I noted differences in distance shooting (landscaping photos) and low light situations. Landscape shots of the Boston Harbor captured better details especially with objects in the far background with the S400 and S45. Distant shots of Fenway captured sharper details on the S400 and S45 as well. Nighttime shots were best captured on the S45... although not by a great deal over the S230 and S400. The range of manual controls were without a doubt better on the S45 and that allowed me to take better twilight landscape photos than the other two digital cameras. The surprise was that the S400 seemed the fastest to display the picture in the LCD after the shutter button is pressed and the continuous shot modes were also considerable faster to me than the S230 and S45.

I upgraded to this printer, from cannon 4400, was good deal on this printer, only takes 2 brands of ink, color 24 and black, very, very good in pictures, and I dont have to wait to download my pictures anymore, from kodak software that takes forever, and sometimes kodak softweare dosent work right. But this has picture bridge to put in pictures straight from your camera, or the way I do it now, is faster, with your memory card, and only takes 3 seconds to download. take out memory card after taking pictures and you only have to touch one button, 3 seconds to download. hurray,, hurray, Excellant printer and photo printer as well. great buy and I got for half price from 3 party seller from Iowa. thanks again if you read this...

I just got this printer, and so far I am very impressed. I have only printed from my camera's memory card (inserted into the printer) so far, and I am so impressed with the quality of the photos. They are beautiful and look just as good as lab prints. It is incredibly easy to edit or print different photo sizes -- all using only the printer.

I bought this in a fit of dispair after yet another battle of errors with my hideously expensive Epson printer-copier-scanner. The print quality on the Canon is just as good, and the function is better, as the Epson would take either no pages or 5 pages at once. And for all that the quality is good, Canon's not a ink-drinker, either. It's quick; it's quiet; it's compact; the quality is great. If you need a good printer at an Ab-Fab price, this is it.I've had a Canon portable for 5 years, and, even with hard foreign travel, it also works perfectly.I'm never buying any printer but a Canon! Never.

I bought the camera and love it... for 2 weeks. I fall off on the table while taking out the memory card... the fall was less than 1 feet and it broke. I know that the cameras need to be handle with care and I am sure I was very unlucky... whatever... but is the first time I see a camera broke that easily. Now I guess I will have to fight to get it covered by the warranty. In any event, I found the camera too fragile.

When my Epson Stylus 740 broke last week, I got somewhat excited about the prospect of "upgrading" my printer. I began the rather tedious process of reading as many online reviews of the numerous photo printers out there. OK, I admit it. I was first attracted to the i850 by its somewhat stylish looks. However, I definitely did not let that influence my final decision. I really did not find any negative comments of substance anywhere on the net about this printer. Some users who are probably not as familiar with photo printing as they could be gave the printer a few bad marks, but I largely discarded those comments. I finally decided to get the thing and it arrived sooner that expected today. Amazon said it would not even be shipped unti 1/20/2003, and today is only 1/15, so I was happy about that. Now for the initial results:The install had one hiccup. I am running Windows XP on a fairly loaded computer I built. Not quite state of the art, but pretty good. I followed the quick set-up steps and was quickly on my way. However, mid driver install, the install program would crash and say "module could not be located." The instructions say not to let XP ID the printer and install the drivers automatically. However after several failed attempts to install drivers per Canon instructions ( I even dowloaded current driver from internet), I let XP do the automatic install and then went back and did the extra included software installs. It was quickly recognized by XP and the install went great. Maybe you should just disregard Canon's instructions and let XP do it if you encounter problems. Anyway, on to the printing:I did not get any official Canon paper other than the small 4X6 included sample pack, so I am using up my supply of high quality Epson matte and glossy papers. The bordeless printing function is great and I have printed very nice 4X6 and 8X10 prints that are as good or slightly better than the Epson 740 I was using. Epson did not have the edge printing feature, and it is nice to have. The prints rival the quality of that produced by Shutterfly's equipment. The noise...well, again in comparison to the Epson 740, there is no noise. It seems to be a very quiet printer, but then again, the Epson was quite noisy, so this might not be the quietest printer ever, but it is the quietest I have ever been around/used. I can actually hear myself think while it prints. And it prints very quickly. I am not sure if my computer's and the printer's usb 2.0 ports help to speed things along, but it is very quick. Again, no comparison to the Epson 740. Seems like the 8x10's edge photos print in less than a minute at highest quality. Fantastic! All in all, I think I made the right decision. I would have liked to try the Epson high end printers (1280, 2200, etc.), but could not afford those. For now, I think this will be a nice addition to my system. When I got mine, Amazon had the best price around and with the free shipping (which was as fast as shipping I've paid a great deal for in the past) it was a no-brainer. Hope this helps. tim g.

INSTALLATIONDO NOT INSTALL BEFORE YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.DO NOT CONNECT BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE SOFTWARE.DESIGNThe best I've seen. Small footprint. Depending where it's used, it can be set up as is. Just lift the paper holder and it's set.TECHNICAL achievementsThe best user solution. Canon PACKS the PRINT HEAD and print cartridges separately. For a knowledgeable user this is a wonderful way of getting the proper maintenance to be done AT HOME, outside a repair shop. Head replacement is a snap. If everything else works fine this gives the printer a long life. The FIRST TIME on a bubble-jet I saw that the driver has the option of SETTING the printer to deliver A PREDETERMINED QUANTITY OF INK. You can set this up in the properties window. It is extremely important when printing web pages, simple graphics and many other home needs of color on standard paper, that the printed paper BE NOT SOAKED IN INK. A matter of esthetics and color saving. All you have to do is set the time you wait the ink to dry at a HIGH or LOW value. Factory default is NORMAL. High tech color laser printers have this set automatically according to the type of used media. It's nice to see it done for an ink-jet.PRINT QUALITY - EXCELLENT (laser quality) on 24 lb paper weight, very good on standard paper. A home winner, prints border-less art work, too.OPERATING SYSTEMS - ALL WINDOWS starting with '98, LINUX and MAC.For Linux use TurboPrint at http://www.turboprint.de/english.htmlFor FREE use, printing MUST BE set at 62 colors and 300/300 res. or purchase the license for full support. PRINT SPEED - without a USB 2.0 connection the speed is a max. of 3-5 web pages per minute at the default setting of 600/600 dpi. The speed doubles or triples at 300/300 dpi with USB 2.0, but quality goes down. (REMEMBER ! - THIS IS A RULE FOR ALL PRINTERS) I suggest the printer be kept at default.WORK LOAD - excellent for any home that DOES NOT involve any kind of business activities.NOISE - LIKE all other ink-jets, YES it is a noisy printer, when it's at the START of a print job. I find it NORMAL. The noise is due to it's built design. Like a boom-box. Sounds get easily amplified. Hey, you do not buy this printer for a bedroom location, unless you place it under your pillow ?!?PRO - If you are in the market for a home printing solution and you know what your real needs are, this can be a printer you will fall in love with.CON - Priced at the ONE color cartridge level, with FREE shipping, I will ridicule myself if I say any bad things about this lovely CANON i320, which is a FULL FEATURED PRINTER.

In our household we have both an i350 and an i250. On both we like the print quality and ease of use. The i250 does sometimes need to be set on high quality printing to get a good looking Word document out of it. Never had that problem with the i350.Only complaint; these less expensive ink cartridges are smaller than I am used to and seem to require replacement more frequently. The price when I first puchased this was around $7 for a black cartridge. It has increased by over a dollar so I have begun to purchase Staple's private label brand cartridges. One other word of advice; this printer uses Canon's BCI-24 cartridge, which is a little more difficult to find in local stores than their more common BCI-21 cartridge. It's frustrating to see a great buy on cartridges at BJ's Wholesale Club, only to realize that the only Canon they stock is the 21.

This is a great printer. It was incredibly easy to setup.Within 15 mins of getting it out of the box I was holding my first print. The quality of the print was very good (greens were a little weak). I used epson's glossy photo-paper. To my eye there was little difference to canon's paper. The fact that you don't have to turn on your PC to print out your snaps is a real plus. Also the ability to hook-up to your camera, PDA, Cell Phone or just plug in the CF or SD card is a great feature, particualrly as I prefer to use Linux and no driver is available yet.Good value, with a nicely thought-out easy to use feature set.

After 18 months fairly low-volume use at home, the printhead suddenly stopped printing black. It looks like an electronic failure in the head itself; it is not clogged, and has only been run on genuine Canon cartridges. When I bought this printer I was given to understand that the printhead was a consumable product, that it would last about 5,000 pages and that the cost would be around USD50 to replace it. Hah!. They sure were accurate about the lifetime. But the cost!. More like USD150!. This is ridiculous. I have now bought an Epson C86 and I am furious with Canon for deceiving me. I am also angry that all the environmental pollution that resulted from making this printer was in vain; its not economically repairable, so it will have to be dumped; more pollution. Canon are obviously gouging me; how could they sell the printer for the asking price if the head really cost anything like what they want for it.

I exchanged my camera from Best-buy after finding the spot on the LCD the very next day. Since then I have had the opportunity to take some pictures and I must say I am very happy results. My wife took the camera for our daughters easter parade and the pictures are excellent. Crisp clear picture of little kids doing their thing as they marched (or ambled is more like it) to the chapel. Some people have said that Canon does not deliver true skin tones - for me that myth has be shot to bits! My daughters class is ethnically and racially diverse and skin tones were delivered flawlessly. Flash is quite effective. I could not find any obvious flaws with it. In fact I like to use the camera without flash to capture indoor shots and I was blown away by the results. Of course, I was capturing inanimate objects. I like the manual setting options. The camera allows you to set defaults for each mode (except auto) i.e. exposure, ISO etc. Thats useful if you want more control over your shots. It allows you to shoot in B&W also, which is great(and Idon't thing the P10 has this - I may be wrong.) I also bought a 256mb flash Card - and I can get 99 pictures at 5mp. Decreasing the size to 1600x1200 at Fine (instead of superfine) gives you approximately 420 images. The flash card (SanDisk 256mb) cost only about $45 (it was on sale at best buy and I got 10% off of 4 Digital Camera accessories.) What an awesome buy!P.S: I tried to update my original review but my updates are not reflecting. I

You want the truth, can you handle the truth? Let's begin with my title, "The good, the bad, and the ugly"...THE UGLY-well, there is no ugly. The camera looks that good. Just taking the camera with you will make you cool (I mean, not that I needed any help or anything, but if you do, that's ok and this is the camera for you). The GOOD-for a camera the size of a, actually its the only little rectangular shaped thing I own that small. It is small, period. I carry it in my front jeans pocket when I go out and pretty much don't know its there. I bought this camera knowing that it will be going with me on trips to Asia, and Europe and around town. I don't like being a "tourist" (ie camera on shoulder, carry bags), so this camera is a dream. I will add, it is surprisingly durable as well, you can tell as soon as you hold it. OK, the Pictures. LCD screen, awesome. Bright, crisp, wish my TV was that good, hmmmm...wish my monitor was that good. The photos, here is the deal. You need to learn how to take pictures with the camera. Outdoors, no biggie. Takes great great pictures. I have even entered some in contests. Indoors-a little bit of a bummer. My only real gripe with the camera. Indoor pictures with any camera are not the easiest, but with digital, even harder. I don't know about other digitals, but with the elph, lots of red eye and dark background. A little trick-indoors in sufficient lighting situations, shut the flash OFF, and what you see in the LCD is what you get, usually a better picture than with flash. With practice indoor shots will be sufficient. Batteries, Cannon NB-1LH. Right. Because you don't know what that means, let me tell you. You are not going to find them at Target, or 7-11. They work pretty well though and the camera comes with a charger and one battery. You probably won't buy an extra battery now, but later you will want an extra battery...trust me, I'm telling you. Oh by the way...I am not a Cannon rep or anything, but ONLY buy the Cannon NB-1LH battery-again just trust me and listen. 8MB memory card-The camera comes with it, and it is enough memory for you to realize the camera is the greatest thing since sliced bread- you will want a bigger memory card. Well, in conclusion: Would I buy this camera again? 100% Yes. The camera is just awesome. You will have so so so much fun with it. That I can guarantee. Great pictures, video mode (with GOOD sound quality (only 12 seconds though)), comes with cables to hook up to the TV, probably one of the greatest things I have ever bought. It is one of those deals where after buying it, you won't know how you lived without it before. I don't know if a camera can add to the quality of a persons life, but you will definitely have more fun. By the way, be prepared for every person you take a picture of to want to see your camera. Prepare yourself now for the fact you are going to have other peoples fingerprints all over it. :) Peace out, and enjoy life!~

This is my second Canon digital elph camera. Both were great cameras. Recently upgraded to the S500. About 6 months later I get the dreaded E18 error. I searched the Internet and found numerous people having problems. When I determined the problem to be the lens not fully extending I decided to give it a tug. It clicked and the camera came on, ready to take pictures. Turning it off and on produced the E18 again. While turning it on I gave it a nice little bump on the side (where the USB connector is) and the lens popped out on its own. No problems since. Its a nice compact and light camera and takes great photos and videos. Only complaint (other than E18) is the limit of 30-second videos on 640x480 mode. I've got a 512MB compact flash card, I should be able to take as much footage as I have memory in one take.

I like this little digital camera. It does everything a point and shoot digital camera should do and more. For me, a point and shoot camera should be small and light so that it can conveniently go with me everywhere. That's the power of any point and shoot camera actually. It goes with you in your daily life and subsequently you get shots that you could not get with other larger cameras either because it would be too conspicous, or too inconvient to carry with you. The S400 camera is barely larger or heavier than a pak of cigarettes and even fits in a shirt pocket with relative ease.I originally had an S50 but ended up getting rid of it because it was too big and heavy and the manual controls on it were cumbersome to use. In the end, the manual controls on the S50 were not worth having to carry around such a brick-like camera. The S50 often ended up staying at home or in the car and I missed out on shots because I did not have the camera with me.The images out of the S400 suprisingly enough, look even better to me than those out of the S50. I can't really explain why this is considering that the S50 is a full 1 megapixel higher than the S400. I don't miss having the full manual controls that the S50 has at all. When I had the S50, I found that I hardly ever used the manual controls anyway because they are a bit cumbersome. I actually longed for more ease and simpleness, which frees one up to take pictures more spontaneously. So the small size and convenience of the S400 more than outweighs the lack of full manual controls for me. And the S400 does have manual mode where you can dial in some settings manually, just not f-stop and shutter speed. Further, you can often achieve the same effects as if you had full manual controls just by knowing how to set the S400. For example, if I want to shoot an outdoor portrait with a shallow depth of field (so the background will be blurry), I would set the camera's ISO to 50 and then meter off of something fairly dark (like the shade) while holding down the shutter down halfway to lock the exposure and recompose to the subject to take the picture. To conclude, I am happy with this camera because it does everything a small point and shoot digital camera should do, yet it is quite small, light, feels sturdy (metal case) and has very pleasant ergonomics both with regard to the layout of the controls as well as to the on screen menu functions.

I got the NB-1L battery when I bought my Canon Powershot S200, and I've since bought two extra batteries, one Canon (the battery reviewed), and one DigiPower equivalent. The original Canon batteries perform noticably better than the DigiPower battery, and they also stay fairly cool, as opposed to the DigiPower battery that gets dangerously hot during operation. I've had no problems running my Canon batteries, but the capacity is not all that impressive - hence the 3 batteries. An absolute minimum here would be two batteries for your camera. On my S200 with the LCS screen on, I can get somewhere between 75 and 150 pictures out of one fully charged battery. With the LCD screen off (only a 2 second preview after each picture), I can get around 200 (sometimes a few more) pictures out of one fully charged battery.I've been using my newest battery for about 10 months, and so far I haven't noticed any decrease in capacity. It appears to hold its charge very well for weeks at a time.I would probably have given it a 2 star rating if I took the general battery capacity into consideration, but since you don't have any real options to this general battery type, I'll give it an overall 5 star rating. It performs better than other brands for my camera, and I've been very happy with it in all aspects.I would also recommend that you to buy this battery and not a Canon equivalent from another manufacturer. This battery's worth the extra money!!!

I read so many good reviews of this camera that I was horrified when I saw the pictures it took. I have an old Kodak 260 which I wanted to improve upon, and this has failed. Pictures are either out of focus, 'bleached' looking with too much white, color reproduction is poor, red eye reduction fails to work - in short it fails on pretty much every criterion I wanted to improve upon. I thought at first it was me, so I read and re-read the manual, tried all manner of settings, and still each picture needs brightness and color balance, is out of focus and needs red eye reduction half the time. Also very annoying that it only warns you of low battery just before it runs out. It was a complete waste of money - only gave it 1 star because there didn't seem to be an option for zero. My five year old Kodak tank with 1.6 mega pixels is way better.

It is easy to take pictures and wasn't too hard getting them to the PC. It fits in a hip pocket.I have been dicking with and I have taken about 150 pictures. Currently 75 pictures are still with me and I have deleted about 75. I have e:mailed maybe 20.I am shooting the 640x480 mode in Superfine. The pictures are about 150k. It is really nice. 640x480 in the Fine mode are about 100k.Dad didn't like digital photo's because they wouldn't print very well. As it turned out, my sister sent him scanned pictures of Polaroids. He really disliked digital cameras due to the print quality.Once I amassed a quantity of photos, I began to print some. While not perfect (with a cheap printer and regular paper), they were nice.Dad, who had better printing capabilities, denounced his dislike of digital cameras and asked politely for more pictures. He is having great success printing them.I did buy more Flash Card memory. I got the 128mb card at Price Club for $50. I have a few pictures on the camera and it says I can take another 577 at the 640x480 superfine resolution.I will probably buy another battery (just because that is the type of person I am), but it has not been an issue.By the way, I haven't taken any pictures with my Canon Rebel since I got this camera and we haven't gone through the 5 rolls of film that was recently developed that we collected over the last few months. I now have instant gratification.Digital cameras are very nice if you have kids and/or grandparents. And the Canon S200 is easy to keep with you and actually take pictures with. I haven't had much success with the movie mode, but from what I have seen, it can be very cool. Now that I know what it is all about, I would have bought it for myself. The Canon S200 is a complete and robust package. The software that comes with the camera is pretty nice also (perhaps I have low expectations). It is very easy to manage the photo's and also enhance them. I am very happy. If you want some pictures of a awfully cute boy, let me know. I also pasted a bunch of stuff into Word and created a PDF and it is really nice.Of course, I only have this robust camera made of metal in my hip pocket. Perhaps some of those bigger plastic cameras are as nice, but you would have to prove it to me...I would have done 5 stars if the movie length (which I haven't had any success with yet) lasted to the end of your memory. I haven't has success due to low light levels when there was a subject to shoot. It works fine, the results were disappointing.Art

If you have a Canon Powershot for more than a couple of weeks (and use it) you will inevitably come to the conclusion that you need a second battery. I have the S410 and the battery indicator only comes on when you have around 4 flash photos worth of power remaining. Then you're out of luck until the battery is recharged. If you have a spare you can go on shooting until the other is recharged. It's a win-win situation and worth the price. My brother-in-law has an earlier powershot and has experimented with non-canon batteries and his conclusion is that it is worth the premium to buy canon's battery. My recommendation: get an extra battery and go with Canon. Plus if something goes wrong you can call up Canon and not worry about voided warranties and what not. You will not regret this purchase.

I bought this printer for its low Total Cost of Ownership as the ink tanks are relatively cheap, however after about 9 months I started to get reduced print quality "banding" which are white lines or missed sections of ink from the nozzels on the Blue part of my prints which is due to blockage of the fine nozzles of the print head. No amount of cleaning could fix this which results in the requirement of a new print head. Investigations show that the cost of a replacement head is almost the same cost as the printer !!Until Canon reduce the price of replacement print heads to a sensible level i.e < ?20 DO NOT buy one of these printers as you will not be impressed by the maintenance costs incurred.

I bought the camera to upgrade from a Canon A40 (3 Mega pixels) to this S500, and tested identical shots with both cameras. Sadly the older camera took much better pictures. The color on the Elph seemed faded. Tried their VIVID color option, and it over compensates for the color problem.Sadly, I'm returning the camera. Wish I knew what other micro digital camera to get instead. Maybe a Dimage X50?

When you first get it out of the box you marvel at its small size. Can it really take pictures? - looks more like a toy. Then you look at the user's manual and you are amazed by its thickness - all this for a point & shoot camera? As you read through it you find it hard to comprehend that so many features are included in such a small package - technology has certainly progressed! And then you take your first picture. It's not good, so you take a second, then a third, then you fill the weak 8mb flash card supplied with the Elph with test pictures. None of them are good. They're either out of focus, or too contrasty, or the background has been `washed out'. Almost all are badly framed too. What gives? So you go back to the user's manual and re-read and start trying different settings, combinations and shooting techniques. Eventually you manage to produce a really nice picture. Then you realize you have *worked* for it.The S200 Elph has wrongly been touted as an entry-level camera. Its picture quality in auto-mode-point-and-shoot is nothing to write home about. Lens flare is way, way pronounced (cheap optics, in plain English). To get good photos you have to plan and compose carefully. Which, in my mind, defeats the purpose of going for this camera. It is supposed to be *practical*. Size aside, it's no more practical than all digital cameras. You shoot, you download, there's the picture. They all do that, and it's the reason we have come to love them. Doesn't mean we have to have bad photos. There are other gripes, many pointed out even in the positive reviews: problematic flash, shutter lag, no camera case, no battery life indicator, inadequate zoom factor, weak software. But all these pale into insignificance compared to the main problem: Picture quality. This is so essential, I don't see why we should even bother with other shortcomings. After all we take pictures because we expect them to come out beautiful, don't we? I do. If you think like me, pass on the Elph. If, on the other hand, the beauty of the camera is important, get the Elph. It's small and techno-loaded, it's shiny and oh-so-cute. It delivers big in the `cool' category. Just don't ask it to deliver pictures.

The iP2000 from Canon is a capable photo printer for occasional use. It boasts high speed and excellent photo quality. In the end I paid $20 more and got the iP3000 instead because (according to my Staples sales guy) the iP3000 allows individual color tanks, so when you run out of one ink you don't need to replace all the colors.Of course, in reality the colors tend to run out more or less at the same time.

I got a great deal on my S520. Only $60 after rebate and coupon. I took it to the 3 day NFDA convention in Vegas. We were printing full page color photos of our booth visitors standing next to our mummy. In the 3 days I printed over 200 full page, edge-to-edge photos. The printer was so fast that I rarely had to use our backup printer which was a HP 960. I hated using the HP since it took three times as long to print the same quality photo. Our background was very dark and mostly blue. I only used 4 blue ink tanks, two red and two yellow tanks to print over 200 letter size photos. Think of how much savings you get in ink by having the colors seperated! Pure genious! Anyone that doesn't do that is trying to make more money on ink. Apparently the printer uses all three colors to print black looking colors. I say this, because the new black ink tank I had in the printer was still full at the end of the three days. I read...about how the print head would get clogged up. This is what prompted my desire to post a review. If you don't use your bubble jet or ink jet printer a few times a month, this will probably happen. Every ink jet printer I've had has clogged up when I stopped using it for over a month. FYI: This printer has been replaced by the Canon I560

My husband was going to a two-week writer's workshop, and needed a printer to bring along. We bought a Canon i70 bubble jet printer, even though it cost considerably more than most low-end printers. We haven't regretted the purchase for a moment. The printer has two strong marks in its favor:* It weighs only 7 pounds. It's also about the size of a hardback novel, and slid right into his iBook-and-computer backpack. (Other people had to ship a box, complete with styrofoam and packing tape.)* The ink cartridges cost $11 each. (Amazon's likely to cut the dollar amount, so I'll also point out this costs less than two fast-food dinners.)At the relatively low ink price, we assumed that the printer would go through ink faster than I can eat a box of Lindt chocolate truffles. So we made sure to get a second cartridge before he left. To his surprise, a single ink cartridge lasted the entire two weeks -- even though he went through an entire ream of paper. (Not single-spaced with lots of fonts, and no color to speak of, but that's still pretty impressive.)Note, however, that the i70 doesn't hold a lot of sheets at a time. That wasn't a criteria for the traveling printer (and we have a color laser at home, so it doesn't get much use off-the-road), but it might matter to you.To be honest, we haven't done any real color printing on it yet, other than to test that it worked. So I can't speak to that. However, it's certainly fast. Bottom line: if you need a truly portable printer, I don't think you'll do better than this. While plenty of other inkjets are light enough that, yeah, if you had to bring it along you COULD, the Canon i70 is easy enough to grab and stuff in your luggage. You'll take it along without a second thought.

its a great printer with all of the above comments but I hate the fact that it crops my pics automatically(and can't be stopped) when I pick borderless. AND when I pick bordered the borders are big and chunky. And all the unneccesary software? God.BUT the prints are unbelievable, provided that you use very high quality high gloss photo paper(like what is provided with the printer).

The Canon S500 5MP camera is everything you can hope: small, easy to use, reliable, great pictures, and cool. You can truly put it in your pocket and take it anywhere. As with most digital cameras, it could be faster in taking the picture from the time the shutter button is pressed, but the S500 is better than most. The battery life and battery life indicator could both be improved.

Overall this is a very good inexpensive ink jet printer. The image quality, black and white or color, plain paper or photo paper, is outstanding. It's fairly fast and fairly quiet. My only real complaint with it is that it goes through ink like crazy. More specifically though, the small ink cartridges tend to dry out rapidly once opened. If you don't do a lot of printing, you will be replacing the cartridges very often (per page). For example, I only print about 50-100 pages per year. But, I have to replace the (black only) ink cartridge 2-3 times per year, so I end up getting 20-30 pages per cartridge. However, if you do a lot of printing, I'm sure you'd get much more use out of a cartridge, as it would not have time to dry out and you'd be using all the ink. Fortunately you can replace only the black or only the color catridges separately, and while not cheap, they're not ridiculously expensive as some others are. That's my only knock on it, it's a fine little beast otherwise.

I have to add that I hate Epson and all the other brands in the market because the inks are just too expensive.

We liked this printer for it's good quality printing, and cheap ink tanks, but on the second color cartridge the magenta nozzles clogged, and I've pretty much burned all the ink in the brand new cartidges trying to get it to work. Now I wish the cartridge came with a new print head like my old worn out lexmark...Going through Canon's interactve "troubleshooting", it seems like they don't believe the print head can fail. I've done a lot of searching tonight, and I can't seem to find replacement print heads sold anywhere...I can't recommend this printer.
