Bought this printer to replace an Epson R2000. Overall, print quality is excellent, better than the Epson R2000. Colors are richer and more saturated. Prints also seem to be a bit brighter showing more detail in shadow areas. I have only used ICC profiles to print photos so it might be the profile that is the difference. Also, I am usually printing on luster type of paper and these prints are not quite as glossy looking as the output from the Epson R2000.Now the cons:1. Seems to suck down chroma optimizer and light gray ink. The other ink tanks are almost full and these two are half gone. Not sure why these two are being used so much quicker.2. Not a particularly fast printer. The Epson R2000 was noticeably faster.3. The software that comes with the printer is terrible. In particular, the software to print directly on CDs doesn't seem to be compatible with this printer and the photoshop plugin that is included is not compatible with the latest version of photoshop. I uninstalled it all.4. Big and heavy! Bigger than the Epson R2000 and quite a bit heavier. It is well over 50 pounds.Time will tell how the printer does over the long haul but for now I am very pleased.

I bought this to print labels on CDs and if i'm honest I found it a very complicated procedure, the instructions of which were not nearly clear enough. However having mastered the technique the quality is pretty good for the price.Remember to go slow and be patient!

I bought this printer sometime in 2010 and initially it seemed like a good purchase. It looks halfway decent for a printer and the specs were perfect - wireless printing, double sided printing, good scanner, decent sized display, ability to save to a USB memory stick etc. etc.Unfortunately the execution leaves a lot to be desired. In order to print a document, I have to have the document ready on my computer and then turn on the printer and immediately send the doc for printing. If I wait for more than a minute or two, the printer goes into what I call the "sulk" mode. I starts making a noise and stuff inside starts moving around as if it's getting impatient. Once it gets into this mode, it takes ages to print the document after much humming and hawing. This is its most irritating feature. The user interface is poorly executed and clumsy - very unintuitive to use - mostly because of poor choice of words. Ink consumption is nothing to be happy about - consumes ink at a much faster rate than my old HP-60xi? I forget the exact name of the HP. Ink is of course ridiculously expensive something like $55 for a set of four colored inks + $20? for the second black ink tank. The printer won't print without all the tanks present and full. Another irritating feature - I really would prefer it to ask me if I'd still want it to print. The printer won't print even if only one black ink tank is empty - true even if the document is a monochrome document. Can't recommend.

prints ok - no fireworks, scans well, only up to 600dpi which a bit of a let down but the software, dear lord, whoever wrote the software should be sacked. it so horrible, slow and for most part - useless.

This Canon Pixma may be an Inkjet but it performs efficiedntly and with clean printing for both text and photos. The only drawback is that it takes some time to warm up, adding ink or whatever before it prints when printer has not been on for a while.

Extremely unhappy about the purchase. Whenever I try and print I am told that the paper-tray is empty, when it's in fact full. My father-in-law bought the exact same model and has the exact same problem. Don't buy it!

I ordered this printer thinking it was a top of the line product. The problem was after going through all the unpacking and setup it would not feed paper from the paper tray into the machine. I thought before I send it back I would see if it was the paper that I bought. So I went to the local Staples store and bought another package of paper. I put the paper in and the printer would still not feed paper. I got in contact with Amazon and they contacted the supplier. They said I have to pay the shipping to return the faulty product!! That was not a satisfactory response so I emailed back complaining. They replied that they would pick up the shipping if the printer it was found to be working. Of course that was not satisfactory either. I then tried to go on the Canon website to find out if there was a local authorized dealer who could look at the machine and find out what the problem is. I couldn't locate a local authorized dealer (for Denver CO) on their website so I thought I'd take the machine apart and find out if the roller which picks up the paper had some oil or other lubricant on it. I cleaned the roller and then tried again. It is now working (at least for awhile). I would have thought it would only be appropriate for dealers who go through Amazon to cover any issues for items they sell. In retrospect I could have gone to Best Buy, Target, Staples, etc. to buy a machine and saved the hassle this has caused me.

Brought this with a view to create professional prints to sell, and so far the quality has been excellent. It's not the fastest, but I'm not bothered by that and I'm sure the ink is going to cost a far bit, but having only just had it a few weeks I can't really comment on that yet and besides I don't think it will change my rating as the quality of the prints is top notch.

- if you are a Linux user I would not recommend using this printer.I bought this printer when it was on sale and have used it a medium amount. I used it with Windows vista/7 a MAC and now i use it with Linux-Ubuntu. I had to search a bit for drivers for Ubuntu and I have not been able to get it to work over WIFI with Ubuntu, but it works with the USB connection. I can not print pictures/Scan from the computer over USB though, I have to use a memory card and put it right into the printer.The printer worked fine with Windows vista/7 and the Mac. I just used the included canon software and was able to print papers/pictures and scan documents that looked good. I used it over WIFI.***BIG PROBLEM!*** I was using this printer on my WIFI network for a long time and it was ok, but i noticed that my Linksys router's LED lights were flashing a lot. they flash whenever internet traffic is being sent through it. My internet connection even slowed down a little bit, because of the extra traffic. I did not connect this problem to the printer until a few months after my internet access went out completely. My internet got slower and slower until it finally went out. After two days of trying to get my internet back by unplugging my router and restarting my computer, I finally decided to turn off all of my devices connected to the WIFI network. When i tried to turn my printer off it would not turn off until i unplugged it! as soon as it was off my internet access came back and it was just as fast as before I the connected the printer!****Related Problem****I left the printer on my WIFI because i didn't think it would cause so many problems again. but I was wrong. I bought an iPad a few months later and I connected it to my home WIFI. The battery on my iPad would drain really fast, about 5 hours. So to figure out what was killing my battery so fast I installed an application that monitored internet activity and another one that monitored active program processes and how much power they were using. I checked them both regularly and found that internet data was being to and from my iPad very often, sometimes over 500MB a day! Then I realized it might be related to the printer and I turned it off. Immediately the problem was gone. The battery life on the iPad went up to about 12 hours, and it was barely receiving/sending data over the internet.This WIFI problem is pretty much undetectable unless you know a little bit about computers and know what to look for. I have not been able to find any one else complaining about it. So I do not know if it is just a rare bug in some of the printers or if other people have just not noticed it. But I do not see how it could be a solitary problem to just my printer. I am sure it has to do with the programming of the printer and it is even possible that the printer is sending data to Canon about your home network and devices connected to it!I would advise that no one get this printer if you need a printer with WIFI access.

After having a second Epson R2400 give up the ghost, I started looking at another brand. I do monochrome (a brown hue) prints and I still use film, 35mm and 645mm). I especially liked the prints that both Epson's produced. There is one print, that I use a "standard" of comparison; A landscape print of oaks on a foggy cold January morning.After reading the reviews and the Amazon price (lower than everybody else), I decided to give the Canon Pixma iX62590) a try. Besides, in the last few years, I have not done much photography.The setup was easy and it was working without any trouble. The next thing was to start printing. After several prints, I found that if I print through the PhotoShop CS program, all dialogue boxes show up. The sequence of steps are as follows: no color management (photoshop screen), quality & media (Canon screen), semi-gloss (for Epson Premium Luster paper), print quality -high, and color sync. The print was very close to what the monitor showed. And the print was about the same as that produced by the Epson R2400s. After testing the printer on two other photographs, I found, on those two prints, that they were very slightly darker, than the monitor, but very close.One additional point, the printer is a lot easier to use than the Epsons.I only wish that the printer had more photo paper choices, but for the price, I should not be that choosy; therefore, the five stars. And maybe this coming January, with the foggy cold mornings and the long shadows in the late afternoon, I will get out and take my Pentax 645 film camera for some good shooting. The printer has peaked my interest to, again, get out and take some more photographs.

I'm generally more of a still photographer at heart, but I finally decided to purchase an HD video camera, and after considerable research, I chose the Canon HF-S200. It seemed to have the right mix of features, size, price and quality - and so far, it's measured up.From an ergonomics point of view, I found the camera about right for my hands. The controls seem logically laid out, and it fits naturally in my hand in a way that lets me hold it steady without feeling awkward. Still, even though the camera is barely a pound in weight, to get the best HD quality, you'll want to consider a monopod, tripod or some other support. I use a Kirk shoulder harness borrowed from one of my still cameras, and it works well. Otherwise, the controls seem to be where I'd like them and it took fairly little effort to get to the point where I could operate most of the features without fixating on the camera itself. Also, because of the memory card architecture, there are no moving parts in the recording system (there are of course moving parts in the lens, focusing mechanism, zoom, etc), making it quick, responsive and - best of all - totally silent in operation.The camera also has all the right connections, including HDMI input/output, LANC remote controls, and connectors for outboard audio or microphones. The camera also has a shoe mount for things like video lights, and it can connect to some of Canon's cool accessories like their DVD burner (which I don't own, so I can't comment on).This recorder writes to SD (SDHC) memory cards - up to two at a time, with the ability to fill one then overflow onto the other. Recording times are purely a function of how large your memory cards are, but assuming 32GB cards, you can get almost five hours of HD recording time by installing two cards in the S200. And of course you can carry a pocket full of extras, making recording time essentially unlimited. The AVCHD video format means you can plug your cards directly into many video editing programs with no need to transform or re-do anything. All in all, this is very convenient compared to other media (such as tape) where you essentially have to copy video to your computer as a separate step before you can work with it.The camera includes a 10x zoom Canon lens, plus an additional digital zoom feature. I found the lens to be very good for a camcorder, producing bright, sharp and detailed videos with good color and contrast. Still, if you look at the output frame by frame on a computer, you can tell the lens - while impressive - is no match for a top quality DSLR lens. Plus, you're getting only an effective 6-8MP - pretty low by today's DSLR standards. I'm not so sure this is an issue, but I guess I don't shoot serious video with my DSLR, and I wouldn't shoot serious stills on my video camera. In 35mm terms, the range is about 43-435mm...good on the long end, but not quite as wide as I might like overall. Still, it's a fast lens and focuses close (about a foot, depending on zoom setting). A final nice feature is that the lens takes standard photo filters (58mm), and I find it handy for instance to screw on a polarizer sometimes.I find most of the other features Canon includes to work well and to be thoughtfully designed. The 3.5" LCD panel is sharp and clear, although not always readable in bright sunlight. Auto-exposure and focus seem very fast and accurate, and even when there's a lot of fast motion, I usually find all the critical parts of the scene to be in sharp focus and properly exposed, aided by Canon's face and scene detection capabilities. When you want to, you can override exposure and focus to get a specific effect.This is also the first consumer camcorder I've used that offers a choice of frame rates, from 24p to 30, giving you video that can have more of a film-like quality (24p) or be more natural to post online (30). The camera also has support for the latest wide-gamut color (x.v.color), giving you rich and vibrant colors if the rest of your equipment can handle it. In my case, displayed on a high-quality 60" plasma monitor, the videos look amazing.To be clear, this camera is essentially the same as the Canon S20 or S21, the main difference among the models being the amount of on-board memory. I believe the S21 comes with 64GB built-in, the S20 has 32GB and this one (S200) has only the SD slots - you supply the memory. Since I like the idea of external memory cards that I can pop into my computer for editing and post-production, I think I'd end up using the slots anyway, and the onboard memory in the other models wouldn't be particularly helpful for me. This was the main reason I went with the S200 instead of one of the other models.From an overall image quality perspective, the Canon offers the best image quality I've seen from a consumer product, period. HD images in 1080p are simply stunning, as good as anything you'll find anywhere. The image stabilization helps ensure you don't get "bumpy" scenes, and even the audio cha

I wanted this for printing CDs. Slightly fiddly to use, and the software is VERY quirky, but it certainly gets the job done once you have found out how to work it. Results excellent. Found the software for CD printing rather limited. Have previously used Corel, and could only transfer my existing designs into this by exporting them as graphics and setting the graphic as a background so that subsequent editing became a headache.

I'll keep it brief:Skip the CD Software completely, don't even open it.1) Just plug the printer into your computer with the USB cord, in "Control Panel", go to add device/printer2) After the printer is installed (and while it is still plugged in), go to add new device/printer, select wireless option3) Let it search for the printer. (you have to install it as a USB printer in step 1 to get all the drivers)4) So in the end, you will have 2 different printers installed. I label mine, "WIFI - Canon" and "USB - Canon" which is default.I have not had any problems with wifi printing since I stopped trying to follow (and use) the canon cd and installation guide. You won't have to have all the extra canon software which slows your system down.Do this for each computer you wish to use wifi printing. I setup 3 printers in less than 10 minutes.This review wouldn't be complete without me saying that this is a great printer. The ink is relatively cheap (in my opinion, $44 for XL combo pack). Can't beat itIn addition, the Canon software won't let you print if the ink is low. You have to do a bypass trick by holding down the cancel button or something, I dont remember exactly. After skipping the CD on future installations, I can print until the ink cartridge is bone dry. I can manage my ink by myself, thank you very much canon.

My son recommended this printer for me asa being simple to use perfectly adequate without various 'estras' that just complicate things (guess my age !) He uses the same model for his photographic work.
It is simple to use and gives clear well coloured prints for both bird studies and views, and for me is simple to change the different sizes needed as just a click on the computer changes from A4 to postcard

I bought this because my printer doesn't have disc print. This was cheap and its small enough to fit under my other printer. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the choice you have for printing on the discs. I found it a bit limited and you can't change the format.(Well I couldn't) I have another program that I will try out to see if it works on this printer. With this one you can add any picture or text that you want.

I was looking for an all-in-one, with DVD print option. But then this item bumped in my recommendations. I did not observe the fact that it was only a printer, and for the price, I bought this. Just before the item arrival, looking for drivers and stuff, I realized that it was only a printer. Even so, I wanted to try it. And it was good. Works as expected. It can also print double side automatically. And I bought a scanner separately. I think it was a good decision. But softwares are ugly and makes me fell like a dummy user...

I am an IT Professional making a career change into the Photography. I have set up many printers from desktop printers to large office Laser printers. All have been easy to set up as is this printer. Where this beats all printers I have used in the past, is that the colours and brightness/contrast settings that I see on the screen, are exactly replicated on the photo paper, in a quality that surpasses many High Street chains. Cost of ownership seems better than the average 100 quid printer, and build quality is excellent.
If you want to print great pictures then this a must and worth spending the money on. Go on you know you want to.

Prints okay, scans okay, stopped working after just over one year. I need to take it to a service centre and pay them to mend it - which would cost more than buying a new one.

Also, wireless printing stopped working after six months (when apple updated its software), but Canon were useless. They told me to reinstall the drivers, and once I'd done that, they lost interest in helping further - no more calls were returned.

Now where do I start with this bad boy,
Ok it arrived fast and came well packed
Once I got the packaging off I followed the booklet for setup which was very simple. I like to take my time, so it took me about an hour. One thing to bear in mind is make sure you have plenty of room and that you have a very strong shelf or a sturdy table as its a 19 kilos job.Switch on, open the top and install the printhead then start installing the ink. I wanted to set this up via wireless so when you get to that part just hold down wi-fi on the printer until you see it blinking fast then press the wps button on your router and bam your off and running via wireless Simple...Just the one small niggle which is that it would have been nice say for Cannon to include say 2 sheets of each of the paper types as the printer inst what you would call pocket change but all in all a lovely printer which produces A1 quality prints and im glad I hit the purchase button. If your a kean photographer and wants the best prints, then this is for you..... 10/10

Pros:Easy to work withLots of functions (printing, faxing, scanning options)Software takes little getting use to, but once understood, one can create multiple scans and merge into one document (E.g. scanning documents together and sending them to mortgage person or bank representative, etc.)Has connections for USB and wifiCons:Noisy (start-up/warm-up, printing, shutting down)Big (bigger than other printers...set aside about 2 1/2 x 2 ft. for spaceBurns through ink (ink relatively expensive to replace)Things to know before buying:- I purchased the printer Summer 2011. Recently, it stopped working entirely...it just stopped...no warnings, nothing. I was provided an error message on the LCD panel stating, "Error Number: B200 A printer error has occurred. Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord of the printer from the power supply. Then contact the service center." You may be thinking, I dropped the printer, paper jam, kid stuck toy in the ink head tray, etc. ... I did nothing but connect it to my machine and print/scan. After researching a minute, I learned this is a hardware issue that is prevalent in many of the printers. Buyer beware.- Photo print quality is ok. But to be fair, I bought this for quick prints, fast scans and multi-print capabilities, not to solely be a photo printerI highly recommend only purchasing the factory ink, not generic brand ink cartridges - there have been issues with incompatible inks causing hardware failures.Hope you found this helpful. I try to leave out my feelings/opinions and stick to the facts (as much as I can) :)Best of luck in your search and printer purchase.

I bought this printer as I own a Canon camera which works brilliantly. Sadly this printer is the complete opposite! Installing the drivers on a Macbook is a pain as their website is very poor. Once the drivers were installed I have not had much success pritning anything. Nine out of 10 prints failed as only part of the photo was printed. The printer takes a long time (minutes) to warm up and the print itself is quite slow. And to be honest I can't see any difference in print quality to my cheap Kodak all in one printer. The inks are very expensice to replace and if you want to stick with Canon paper be prepared to pay a premium. I wish Canon would stick to cameras which they are very good at and sell their printer business off as a failed attempt!

Arrived on time, packed well and was exactlly as described. The advantages of this printer are double sided printing so saves paper and wireless operation so prints from iPads and laptops around the house. Easy to setup as well!

What can I say, if you have a wireless connection the it's very easy to set up, just put the disc in your p.c. & follow the on line instructions. Takes a little while to configure but when it's up & running you can print anything you want! The scanner takes a little time to ascertain what's best for your p.c., as there are a couple of choices from the Canon menu or your own p.c.'s scanner, but I personally preferred Canon's IJ scan facility. Yet to try remote printing but hope to soon!

All the reviews that I read before purchase proved to be accurate but even then I did not appreciate the great weight or the desktop footprint that this printer requires. Make sure that you have a suitable, permanent home to accommodate it before purchase. Supplied software is good and setup easy, print quality, output speed, and quietness of operation cannot be faulted by an enthusiastic amateur, and it is too early yet to comment on rate of ink usage. As a previous reviewer has already commented, nothing beats a "big print" and I am very happy with this purchase.

Notice I still give it 4 stars. why? I bought cheap ink. and the printhead probably died because of both this and that I was reluctant to change the ink when it was asking to replace empty tanks. This printer was working great and did everything until it died. I was upset, and even tried to do a lot of googling and researching why these printers get the dreaded B200 error. I am mostly making this review to give my suggestion for fixing the B200 error. get yourself a replacement print head. model # is QY6-0073They're costly here in amazon, you may want to go to fleabay. In my case, I went to cr@!g$l!s+ to buy an old printer cheap of the models that QY6-0073 supports and took that printhead off and put it in mine. Now my printer works! buying a used printer isn't feasible in fleabay because of shipping. but buying a cheap printer locally will be better as you can just take the printhead and put it on your dead MP560 to revive it.I recently got a cheap pogo and will use it to connect this mp560 as a print server and even do airprint for iOS devices.Bottomline, always change your print carts whenever it asks to do so. makes a big difference.

I read many reviews before purchasing this IX6520, and frankly, enough to make my head spin. One stated Windows 7 constantly fails to recognize the device. After having mine now, and in operation for a full 3 months, I've not experienced that problem once, and I have Windows 7. Another review stated a printer that constantly turns itsself off is a waste of money and the person claims to have printer experience, which I will not question, but if you go into the settings as I've successfully done, I've set mine to remain on, which it does. I am an electronics technician, and although not an expert on printers per say, I've not experienced many of the stated problems and issues. Another review mentioned about a short lived warranty being 6 months. Mine was stated to be 12 months so I've no idea where that came from. I DID have one issue. With the printer you are supposedly able to access Canon creative park premium as well as other premium features. After a total of about 2 hours of telephone time with Canon reps., the issue remained unsolved. They did go out of their way to attempt to rectify this issue, but were unsuccessful. It might even have something to due with my Mc antivirus keeping me safe. They were not sure. As far as printer performance goes....it's wonderful. Granted it's not A canon Pro series, but it did not cost above $500.00 either. If someone is looking for a wide format printer to make a very decent 13 X 19 inch color print at home, YES, I would definitely recommend this printer based on my 3 months of use with mine. I truly hope this helps anyone interested in such a printer and that I have not put the person to sleep reading this.

Великолепно

My Old Printer failed on the Print Head Alignment so had to get a New Printer that also prints on CD's. This model fitted the bill and was around the same price as the Old Printer. Photo's are clear and professional and double sided printing and other features are available. Having the separate Inks means that no ink is wasted as with a multi-cartridge

I was sent set up cartridges which will have a low capacity the same as the ones you get with the printer. Better to spend twice the price and get XL which will last much more than twice the prints.

New laptop and found my old lexmark printer wasn't compatible. Read the reviews, did the research and bought this - basic but does the job. Very pleased with it. The included ink cartridges lasted longer than I expected and I've now bought refill kits from the 'cartridge people', which are cheap and easy to use, and are working fine. I found out online how to deal with the 'cartridges empty' message that the printer keeps sending to laptop - just hold down the reset button for about 5 or so secs - its the button with a triangle inside a circle on it!

The printer arrived very quickly and very well packed. It was easy to install to work via USB from my desktop. I had a problem installing it to print wirelessly from my Apple laptop. The instruction sheet was not very helpful here. Apparently this is due to the upgraded driver. I eventually found the solution on one of the help groups and the cure was simple. Now it works perfectly printing from desktop and laptop.
I read in some reviews that the supplied cartridges were only sample capacity and this is a pity. Mine have been big enough though, to get useful work with text and photos. I already have a stand alone scanner/copier so have not tried these functions.

Canon do it again as far as I'm concerned. Easy to install, colour reproduction good. Price good for this product range comparing with other brands. However a little noisy when first switched on each time. Installation 'manual' could have been clearer regarding the 2 paper tray layout. Wireless access from anywhere in the home, great. Would recommend to family and friends.

I have pc's and Macs, iPads and iPod Touch and software that prints through my Mac for my iPod and iPads. This printer set up quickly and easily. Some folks complained about the noise this unit makes, but it has a "quiet" mode which is easy to find in the included software. In this mode I can hardly hear it. The one drawback to quiet mode is that the printer operates in unidirectional mode rather than bidirectional mode, which slows the output. If the noise of the printer bothers you, then it is worth the wait.The photo output is even better than the photo quality of 6 color printers I have used before this one. I also like the fact that there is a dye based black especially good for printing envelopes, as it is water resistant.I really like the automatic power standby/wake up of this printer.The one really good thing is that if the printer has been off for a while, when you print something, it automatically cleans the heads before printing so output is always good without having to manually clean the heads after discovering your printout is bad due to needing a head cleaning, abd then wasting a sheet or two making sure the print head is printing properly, then reprinting the document you were originally trying to print.If you only print occasionally, then it will use more ink, but if you print a lot, you will not notice ink usage being excessive.I've been using this unit for about 3 weeks now, and it has not yet dissapointed.

Великолепно

I bought this purely for CD printing because it costs so much to get them done online. It takes a while to get the hang of printing discs but they come out supurb quality and make my DVD's look very professional. the printer is brilliant all round and has no problem printing on card , gloss or any other media. The ink for this is also quite cheap if you buy from the same company and the cartriges light up with LED's which is pretty cool. The software is also very easy to use

It feels like this printer takes an hour to turn on and then print a document, in fact it took me 1hr 32mins to print. and then printing from my iPhone is a nightmare I still havnt got it to work It keeps sending smaller images to print with the tray that is not A4. Really not impressed by this at all.

If you are new to inkjet printers (like I am) you might want to take the time and read this long review. If inkjets are old hat, just ignore this review.This is my first inkjet color printer (I have a laser printer I use for text, which is the only way to go if you print a lot of text). The Canon PIXMA mp560 is a fairly nice looking printer, but nothing I'd write home about. When all closed up, it looks more like a small suitcase than a printer (about 17" w x 6" h x 15" d). You'll add another 6 inches in height with the rear paper feeder extended (not including the paper itself) and perhaps 3 inches to its depth. It came packaged well, but there was a lot of tape stuck everywhere one could possibly look.Setting it up and putting the ink cartridges in does take some time for a novice user like myself, but it is pretty straight forward and the instructions were easy to follow. I hooked it up with a USB printer cable (not supplied, but I have a few on hand). I may or may not mess with the wi-fi setup, even though that was one of the functions I initially wanted. I installed the provided Canon software and everything seems to be working properly. I run Mac OS 10.5.8 (Leopard).The 560 has a small 2-inch LCD screen that one can use. The controls seem logical and it was pretty simple to poke around and see how they work. However, I doubt I'll use it much. I use the supplied software for the Mac (although it is surprisingly slow and has a few minor bugs -- settings sometimes don't take or don't always function the way they should). The few times I printed text, I just hit command P. I checked the print quality on text (just out of curiosity) and it looked surprisingly good. I also liked that the front door of the receiving tray opens up automatically when you print anything. Pretty nifty.I really didn't need an all-in-one (AOI) printer, but the price difference was only 15 bucks (at the time) vs the PIXMA ip4700 I was looking at. The scanner is suppose to be 2400 x 4800 dpi, so I scanned a 5 x 7 photo and printed it on 4 x 6 glossy paper (on vivid setting) and I thought it turned out great, which indicated to me that this printer does indeed scan at high resolutions. It surprised me so much that perhaps I will use the scanner more than I ever anticipated. Just be aware that there is no FAX function, or bluetooth capability (bluetooth is a 50 buck add-on).I also ran a few tests on photographs my son emailed me (the main reason anyone buys this type of printer is for photos). At its default setting, the pictures were decent, but a bit washed out. However, on the vivid setting, these photos were quite impressive (just like the scanned photo), at least I was very happy with them (Canon supplies a few sheets of their photo glossy paper and it's really nice paper). As far as the print speed goes, that was not one of my biggest concerns. I think the 4 x 6 photos printed out in a reasonable time (although prep is a little slow), and I liked that the printer starts up quickly after being turned off. Now if I was a heavy user, I might think differently, especially if I were printing out 8 x 10s. I do think it's too slow for text, but that's comparing it with my laser printer (which one shouldn't do). Besides, I use this inkjet for only the occasional photograph or printing out an occasional CD cover and insert, and not for text. I also found this printer surprisingly quiet as it is printing. When preparing to print, mechanically it will make noise (same as when scanning), but actual printing is another matter.Printing photos to standard bond paper is a no-no. Hey, I knew it was, but I was testing as many things as possible concerning this printer. The picture came out fuzzy and washed out. Printed on glossy paper, it prints out great (as I mentioned above).This being my first inkjet (or Canon product), I had a hard time locating the front paper cassette. I was surprised when I stumble onto it. It pulls out from the bottom front of the unit (yes, the directions show this, but I was having one of those "duh" moments). I read where it is suppose to hold 80 sheets of paper (or 150 sheets depending upon the professional review one reads). Perhaps 80 might be correct, but I doubt 150 sheets. Personally, I wouldn't go more than 50 sheets of 24 lb. bond. I like that the front cassette is hidden from view (it's nice not to have a paper cassette sticking out). It also comes with a rear feeder for thicker paper stock (photo paper or card stock) and 8-1/2 x 14 inch paper (legal size). Having two different sources to print from is a nice feature.This printer also has duplex printing capability. Well, it's more of a novelty really, because it is extremely slow printing this way. But if you have the time, this machine will do it for you without problems. Just go out and have a cup of coffee while it's printing (maybe even two if it's a fairly long document). This printer is really nice but did take a while to set up. After looking on youtube I eventually worked out how to print images onto a DVD. Works fine wifi with my wifes ipad and daughters laptop. The automatic duplex printing is good as well. None of that faffing about having to turn the paper over manually. One of the best printers I`ve had.

I realize that my complaints can be targeted at the printer industry as a whole since Canon is following the same practices as their competitors. Still, it's incredible frustrating when you just want to print (or fax, in my case) without having to keep your wallet open. Ink is expensive and this printer burns through it quickly. Buying a replacement set of ink is about a third of the printer price. You'll do this often with this printer. Once again, normal industry practice. Also, the printer does verify the cartridges via an embedded chip so third-party cheaper ink sometimes works, sometimes doesn't (my own experience). Now, a few years ago when these more profitable practices started, it was fairly normal for many of us to just replace the black ink since it's what we tend to need the most. This printer requires ALL ink cartridges to have ink and it doesn't allow fully black-only printing. So you can print in black all you want, you will still run out of Magenta ink and will have to replace it. Finally, the worst part is that the printer completely disables all functionality if an ink cartridge is out. I prompted myself to write this review now because I have a fax I need to send off but the printer is locked into it's "replace cartridge" mode. Can't fax, scan, etc. until I buy a new ink cartridge and so even though I have this printer/fax at home, I need to run off to pay to fax this thing at the nearest business center to get it out anytime soon. Faxing and scanning operations require no ink at all but Canon won't play with deadbeats who don't keep buying their ink. We might as well just stop pretending and the printer makers should just have us enter our credit card numbers when we set up the printer so they could charge us a monthly fee for their existence and be done with it. Then maybe they can just go back to normal ink practices and let me use the machine I paid for.

Excellent printer from Canon. They never fail to deliver. Individual ink tanks, AirPrint support, dual paper trays, though the trays are a bit limited in capacity and function. Ink can be expensive if you don't shop around.
