Makes nice copies, although it is slow. Scanner is more complicated than the HP we had. Haven't tried photo's yet. Might buy again if had to do it over, but would have done more research, as I relied on Consumer Reports and they claim this is one of the best.

This is the first canon printer I have had - HP & Dell previously. I found the set up to be routine with one minor problem. I was receiving an error message of "inner door open" Door? What "door"? Oh, that little flap of plastic inside? Again, that may be because I am unfamiliar with canon design features. However, once the "door" was closed it printed beautifully. As expected for the price, the plastic seems lightweight almost flimsy, but I don't intend to go off road with it. I did find that the cover does not open very far, and it was the most difficult of all the printers we have had to install the ink. My husband, a big guy would have found it almost impossible. Other printer covers have opened ALL the way. This opens about 10" with the ink cartridges located in the back middle of the machine. I also thought the packaging on the ink cartridges was overdone. However, I will say again that the print quality is far better than any other printer I have had. I've heard some questionable reports on the print capacity for the ink cartridges and I will update this review in a few months. This machine is used for home office receiving approx 20+ pages of faxes a day with similiar printing volume. It does make a moderate grinding type of noise when starting up. Printing however is much quieter than previous printers I have had. I took 1 star off due to ink packaging and location of printer head.

You don't always get what you pay for. Sometimes you get more, like with this Canon Printer. I was in the market for a printer that was compatable with windows pro X64 edition. This rare version of windows systimatically rejected the 2 walmart 'lexmark' printers I purchaced one for 40$ and the next for 112$. A quick download, self installing file got me the driver I needed from the Canon site. Even the software included works with my 64bit OS and Internet explorer x64. The setup was longer than I'm used to due to the head and various ink tanks, but then again this is my first mid-high quality printer. The prints I get are vivid and clean. I notice a very slight bleed when blue is sharply contrasted against yellow but only under intense scrutiny. The LCD is nearly useless, but for me this wasent going to be used anyway I don't print from a camera or card, but from my computer. Shipping was fast but I wasnt home to receive the package, after a call to my UPS facility they put the package on hold so It wouldnt make rounds on the truck all week and I picked it up in the evening. I appreciate the fact that they didnt leave it on my doorstop or my lovely neighbors in the extremely low income area i reside would have sold it on ebay by now. The printer is light for its capability, well packaged, and has yet to jam. I print mostly black and white low quality prints and have scattered off over 500 without the ink meter moving yet, and on visiual inspection the ink looks about 2/3 in the clear black 'tank'. I have only cheaper printers to compare this to but its far better than bubblejet. 9.5 / 10 but probably not for professionals.

As everyone else is reporting, this printer is pretty expensive to maintain- the printer cartridges combined cost about $60 and that lasts me approximately 2-3 months. I print only a few pages a day, typically only in fast-draft. I heard about Walgreen's new inkjet refilling that costs a fraction of buying a new cartridge, but of course these cartridges are excluded from most of the Canon's being able to be refilled. Finally, I have had my printer for 9 months and after about month 5, my photos are often printed with smears on the front and back of pictures (even after using the printer's neat tools to fix smearing problems). Consequently, I highly reccomend not purchasing this printer, even if it is a good deal- in the end, it's not cost-effective or worth your money at all.

I am not an expert on photo printers but I do not see how the prints that this printer creates can be any better. All my friends are impressed with the quality of the printed photos. Really Amazing. Scanner works great. Have not tried scanning 35mm or Slides yet which was a factor in buying this model. Was delivered very fast by Amazon which had the best price after research. Reading the reviews was a major factor in my decision to purchase(Amazon and CNET).

Beforing deciding upon the PIXMA MP810, we had an HP all-in-one that was dissapointing. I did a lot of research before buying this printer so as not to be left wanting more once again. It was difficult for me to finally decide upon this model, because I wanted faxing capabilities, and this all-in-one doesn't have that capability. However, I wanted the ability to convert 35mm slides and negatives to digital more than I wanted the ability to fax.The printer is solid and sturdy looking. It doesn't have chintzy plastic parts that easily break like the HP model I had before. In order to get the best looking photos, you really do need to pick your paper wisely. I'm not happy with the first batch of paper I bought for it. Also, I printed my first photos from iPhoto without changing the paper settings. It was an amature mistake that resulted in horrifying looking pictures at first - dark with lines down them. I thought I had a defective printer. I called customer service at Canon and they walked me through and made me quickly realize my mistake, and since then, I have been able to print beautiful pictures with ease. The printer is relatively easy to navigate and set up. I haven't even had to consult my manual to scan slides.

Over the years I've had machines from Epson, HP and Lexmark. The most noticable quality difference between the Canon and the rest is the paper handling, HP is/was the worst. Maybe it's because my wife and I, she had an HP and I had a Lexmark, had so many problems with our recent All-In-One's that the Canon 530 is like seeing sun after a long, cloudy winter. The set up was easy to understand, the control panel is logical and the size is easy to accommodate in a home office. The quality of print is excellent (haven't used it for photos yet), but a little noisy. Having a paper tray, Canon calls it a "cassette", to hold a bulk amount of A4 or letter size paper means no more running out of paper when receiving several faxes when out of the office. Plus an additional external paper feed source makes those once in a while print jobs where a paper change is necessary (legal size or letterhead) quick and easy. The only functions I have not yet used are scanning and faxing to or from my laptop. I'm not sure what influenced my decision to buy this machine more. My brother has had the exact same machine for about a year with great reviews and he's very anal, or the great experience I've had with Canon printers in the past or the consistently good reviews by several sources on the internet. My final comment is for the money, and Amazon had the best price when I was looking, this machine will be tough to beat.

I've had this printer for 8 months now, and I have no complaints whatsoever with the print quality, software or the features. However, Canon's little game with putting chips on their ink cartridges is completely lame and customer aggresive. What they are trying to do of course is force you to buy carts from them, by hiding behind the DMCA, claiming that anyone who reverse engineers this little chip is "circumventing content management". What a crock! This printer is great in every respect except this corporate-extortion attempt to force ink sales. Imagine if Ford only allowed Ford parts to be used on their cars, or else the car wouldn't start. Nobody would buy Fords anymore. That's what I recommend. Do not buy any Canon products until they get rid of this ridiculous attempt to grab a few bucks.

My printer arrived, minus two critical components: 1) no usb cable--nice if manufacturer told me--I could have at least ordered one right away, and 2) no color ink cartridge. I purchased this printer after reading many of the positive reviews here. I won't bother restating whateverybody else has said and instead post what I've found that's new. Follow these simple steps and you'll get superior quality images and user experience.1. The on board digital film reader works extremely well, though it doesn't support folders so only put a few photos on the card at a time. It can take up to 10 seconds to scroll to the next picture when dealing with large images. Also the printer can't open any file over 4 MB, nor can it open Canon RAW format.2. On the mac, the colorsync software causes clearly inferior output to what the onboard image processor is capable of. I suggest downloading your photos to your computer, do all your edits, then copy the edited photos to the memory card, and insert that into the printer. I think the printer is HIGHLY optimized for printing directly from the camera and it does a fantastic job at this.3. Only use genuine Canon paper. I get streaks on Office Depot photo paper on the high quality settings.4. Setup was very simple, but the initial setup instructions are only printed on a large red banner in the box. It's not in the normal manual, and only has a footnote in the print quality guide. Don't throw away your banner until you finish setup (requires paper to perform initial calibration too)5. Due to aspect ratio constraints of the paper, you may find it much easier to perform your Crop functions in the printer itself when doing borderless prints. The printer is very careful to maintain the proper aspect ratio at all times.

I read several online reviews on the various new All-In-One printers and then went to several stores to see and ask questions. I liked the looks, capabilities and price of the MP530 and bought it.Installing this unit, I found two difficulties:1. The ambient LCD was difficult for me, at 60+, to read in the evening and I had to use directed light to see. Also, I found the display small. Should I spend another $100 for the MP830 with a backlighted LCD? I have 30 days to decide.2. How to configure my office MP530 to connect to my phone line in relation to my master phone/answering machine in my kitchen and the DSL/computer connection in my office.I was replacing a HP OfficeJet Series 700 with the MP530. I wanted the MP530 fax to pick up before the answering machine came on. Or, if I answered a slave phone somewhere else in the house before the answering machine came on, I wanted the ability to tell the MP530 remotely to answer the fax signal rather then having to go to the MP530 and turn it on manually.Having read the User Guide and trying several configurations unsuccessfully to use my prior connection, I emailed Canon Tech Support and found out I could not duplicate my past connection and results with the MP530. I had to move my master phone/answering machine from my kitchen to my office where the MP530 and my computer reside. I had to then connect this master phone/answering machine behind the MP530. The slave wireless phone had to thus move from my office to the kitchen.Canon Tech Support was excellent in explaining how I could connect successfully and why I could not use my old HP configuration. They did say that different manufacturers allow different connections, and that different Cannon models allow for different connections.Hopefully, this will help you in your evaluation.

This printer's speed, text and graphics are all excellent. I print about 50 pages a day and it always operates trouble-free.I am only giving it four stars, not five, for one reason: it is no longer possible to replace the original Canon ink cartridges with cheaper compatible ink cartridges because the originals now come with a chip. That makes the cost of replacing the four ink cartridges around $55 unless you're willing to mess around with transferring the chips to a compatible cartridge yourself.Unfortunately, the other print manufacturers have taken similar steps to prevent people from using the compatible ink.If you do a lot of printing like I do the solution is to install a continuous ink system.

I've always loved Canon digital cameras, so I was sure that I would also love a Canon printer. Sadly, I've never been so unhappy with anything as I am with this mini260 printer. After less than six months, of light to medium use, the printer seems to be worn out. I am faced with either replacing the print head (which Canon happily tells me may not solve the problem), or replacing the printer completely. Further, I have found that the ink cartridges are nearly impossible to find locally (so I order them from amazon), the paper is very expensive locally, and the printer is picky about using only Canon paper. Other papers give very poor print results. The user interface is very 'clicky', and I'm not impressed with the feel of the printer - it's very lightweight and fragile-feeling. Before I purchased this canon printer, I used an HP photoprinter (one of the first) for YEARS and was very happy. Guess what I am about to do now ?

Unfortunately, no matter how well made or how well treated a product may be, there is always a chance that it will need service. That is why we offer multiple support options for products in-warranty or out-of-warranty. In the case of an out-of-warranty S400 we offer the Flat Rate Repair and PowerShot Upgrade Programs, both of which were developed from customer feedback. There is a charge for both of these programs - I am sorry for any dissatisfaction this causes.I can understand why you would have misgivings, but I must caution you against relying on information that may not be credible. The fact is that the S400 is a successful and robust design as witnessed not only by its excellent sales but also by the service data we have collected since it was introduced two and one half years ago. Another fact is that Canon has an excellent reputation for a reason. We use our service data and we constantly review our products and processes to identify opportunities for improvement. If we find a problem we will act proactively and appropriately. Examples of this are two different programs related to service notices we published on our website in the past few months. In both programs we are servicing the related models at no cost no matter the warranty status. Further, we are refunding customers who paid for related service in the past. This is how we have always conducted our business and it is how we intend to continue to do so.I hope that my responsiveness demonstrates our commitment to your satisfaction. After testing the MP530 for a few days I can say that I am very pleased with this machine. Canon did a great job with the MP530, nicely balancing the quality of and thereby the value offered by each of its components. The setup of each function is often different and therefore awkward. For example, the if you want to copy something and there is no paper in the Auto Feed tray (in the back), you have to manually switch (by pressing a button) to the Cassette. I guess it would have been nice if Canon had included sensors for the two different input bays, something my similarly priced single function HP printer has.The print quality is, as others have mentioned before me, excellent. You can't beat the one picoliter technology that Canon offers. The fax setup with the phone line connection took a few tries to figure it out (the manual can be confusing at times), but I got it to work without having to call tech support.Another plus (which is coincidentally also a negative), the MP530 is so quiet that you could have it operating in your bedroom without any kind of disturbance. However, if you are like me and you want to get something from the kitchen while a large picture is printing, you'd listen to hear if the machine is ready. Once I step away from the unit, ambient noise simply drowns out the noise from the printhead.I can't judge ink consumption yet, but since this is an inkjet unit, I would recommend this machine only for small and home offices.

Canon is very clever. They have now put smartchips in their ink tanks so you can't refill them or replace them with generic ink tanks. The chip knows that it was on an empty tank and won't let you transfer it to a full generic tank either. The printer won't print, thinks it's out of ink and won't budge. Generic ink is about $7 to top off all colors. Canon smarchip tanks about $70.00 for a full set. I figure that's about 30 cents a page to print. I will never buy another Canon. If I sold you a brand new Lexus for only $20,000 but it would only run on fuel you had to buy from me at $30.00 per gallon, would that be fair? There must be a special place in hell for those clever, greedy little buggers.

Before buying, I researched this printer thoroughly and after installing it found that it lived up to every expectation. It is very versatile and makes crisp, clear copies and photos. However, one word of caution. The user's manual doesn't make it very clear about programming the fax feature to MANUAL before linking it with your house phone. If you don't, incoming calls are treated like incoming faxes and it creates havoc trying to talk to the caller. I would ditto one lady's review that it might be a good idea to buy two of these printers so that when the first wears out, you'll still have one to use before the manufacturer stops making them. For all it can do, it has a relatively small footprint. The jury is still out on how good it is on ink supplies, but if it's like the Canon I replaced, I'll be satisfied.

Pretty intuitive and provided booklet and setup instructions are clear and quick to comprehend. Tested by copying photos at a local store and they came out fine. Not as sharp as the original, of course, but fine, nonetheless. First photos came out a little light, but I've heard that from other reviews, too. They are sharp and color rendition is first-class. I've also got a good HP photo printer and it'll take up the slack where this leaves off. It copies and faxes like a champ and setup, with the book open in front of me, was done in a couple minutes. Well worth the cost.

Got this printer 2 weeks back. Still haven't tested everything, but did scan some old photos and printed some digital prints on 6x4 glossy. The photos are looking awesome and are quite comparable to prints from the photo labs. The print speed is unbelievable, and the ink drys real quick. I used to get my prints from wolf camera, but now, I can get the same quality at home. I still haven't tried scanning in negatives, which is part of the reason why I went for this model. If you don't need the feature to scan negatives and slides, you could save some money and go with the MP600 instead. I am yet to try printing on matte. The scans a looking real good as well. The photo printing software that comes with the printer takes the guessing out of printing and makes it a simple 3 step process quite like the labs. It does have a pic bridge link to print directly from your camera, but I usually edit my photos in ps before printing, but its a nice feature to have to get some quick prints. It also does a good job of copying. My only caveat is with printing documents. The prints are good, don't get me wrong here, but they are not sharp. But since this is primarily a photo printer, I don't have any complains. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this printer.

I purchased this all-in-one after my Epson CX5400 died - just stop spitting out ink, despite wasting money on new cartridges. I've owned Espons for my personal office use for several years, because I was so impressed with how well they work with printing photos. Unfortunately, the cheaper ink jets were extremely noisy and very slow. I read some reviews on the Canon printers and decided to take a shot. This is a true bargain, with fax, scanner, and printer. The quality of print is much better than my old Epson and the sound level is down at least 40 decibels - its very quiet. It is also considerably faster. I would estimate it is averaging 10 pages a minute (compared to about 2 or 3 with the Epson!). It is also quite stylish. I've used it for about a month and absolutely no troubles. I've only printed photos on plain paper (research papers with images), but I can see that this is doing a much better job than the CX5400. This is a very capable machine, and for the price, exceptional quality.

In general, I love my new Canon MP810. I've been looking for a way to scan in hundreds of my old color slides for years. I even tried Kinkos; their response was we don't do that! Can you believe it?When I saw that this scanner did not only slides, but film negatives (35mm) also, I had to get it. I am currently scanning slides as I have time. I wondered about the quality from comments of earlier Canon scanners, but the pictures from these slides are clear and undistorted. I am very happy with this feature.Another feature I love is duplix printing (printing on both sides of the paper). Multipage documents come out nicely arranged for stapeling (sorted and collated).I have not yet tried printing a photo. I have to say the one thing I would mark down on this printer is the slow drying ink. The manual says a photo should dry for 30 minutes before you do anything with it - 24 hours is even better. My old printer was an Epson. When the Epson printed a photo, it was ready for use in a minute. I could put a multiphoto sheet into my cutter immediately to separate the pictures. In general though, I highly recommend the MP810.

Let's burn this into our memory for future reference. When you buy a printer, YOU DON'T GET A CABLE. This is true even if you buy a new monitor! Simply use the cable your old one hooked up with and you're set. Now let's concentrate on reviewing the item in question instead of the peripherals! Now, about the iP6220, there are a couple of relevant things you'll need to know if your previous printer was a Canon. My trusty S600 died of printhead failure despite attempts to revive it with an alcohol soak. I noticed right away with this one that the ink cartridges are NOT interchangeble, since I still had ink that wasn't used up in the S600 that I was hoping to transfer. Looks like I'll be recycling those with ink still in them! Unfortunately, the ink cartridges that you're going to need are more expensive than the old BCI cartridges. I wouldn't even attempt to use the fake ink in this, because I used compatibles on the S600, and I believe that's what contributed to its failure. I settled on this one rather than an all-in-one because I had just bought a new Canon scanner when my printer died shortly afterwards. Also, I needed a machine with a fairly small footprint.I save most everything to PDF and burn to disc, so I don't actually print as much as I used to, but it's nice to have a printer for recipes to take into the kitchen. Therefore, I could have gotten away with a very basic unit for my needs. But, I tend to be very brand loyal, so I got another Canon. So far, so good!To sum up, in 2006, peripherals, such as printers and monitors, don't come with cables. If you had a printer before, swipe the cable before you toss the thing, and worry about something more important. If you decide on this one, you won't be getting a bad little printer with reasonable speed, if that's important to you, and of course, that legendary Canon picture quality.

The Pixma MP530 quickly connected and operated properly on a PC running Windows, and a Mac running both Vista and Mac OS 10.4.11. It will take some time to see how the ink cartridges hold out, but so far they seem to be doing fine.

I love this thing. I'm glad I bought it. Does so much, looks nice, doesn't take up that much space. Takes care of all my needs. I run out of ink pretty regularly but I guess that's true with most printers nowadays. Thumbs up.

In addition to all of the other "Kudos" awarded to this printer by the other reviewers, I want to add the following. While the price of "Genuine Canon" ink cartridges may (does) border on outright robbery, you DON'T have to buy them. Compatible cartridges are dirt cheap at places like "inkquik.com". If you buy a refill kit from say, "abcink.com", you can refill your own for pennies each. I do, they are VERY easy to refill, work as good as new, and canon even gives you a "Reset Ink Level" option under the print driver "maintenance" section. YAY Canon -- DOWN for HP !!!!

This printer is absolutely worth the money put down. The prints are excellent as like other canon printers are. Easy to use menu and scans are top notch.Have been using HP for the longest time and notice how fast this printer is even for photos at highest quality setting. The scanner interface is easy to use and is a no brainer. It seems like the ink consumption is good and have made several photo prints already and the levels doesn't show much use.The only small issue is the size of the printer. If you want a top notch printer/scanner, take a look at this one. Amazon delivered quickly as always and had the best price considering the free shipping calculated in the total price paid.

I have had this printer/fax/scanner for about 2 months now, and I LOVE it. I had a desktop scanner in the past that was SOOO SLOWWWW and was surprised how fast this scanner worked. At first I thought I had done something wrong because it scanned so fast.I have also used the Fax feature a couple of times. I'm not a big faxer, but have been very satisifed with the faxes I have sent. In case you are wondering, you do not have to have a dedicated fax line for this. I have it plugged into my phone line and you just have to make sure no one is using the phone when you are faxing.I was very impressed with the quality of the few photos I have printed. I do not like to print from home because it can suck up the ink, but it still does a good job.The only thing I would say I wasn't crazy about is the size of the printer. It takes up a good portion of my desk. Make sure you have room for it.All-in-All -- I'm more than satisfied with my purchase and would definitely recommend to someone looking for an All-in-One Machine.

This printer is pretty pricey at retail compared to other offerings on the market, especially when coupled with the LK-51B battery and the BU-10 Bluetooth adapter. However, it's a very compact, lightweight, and rugged printer that fits nicely in my backpack, and can print on full-sized 8.5x11 paper. Buying from Amazon during a sale netted me a very decent savings off MSRP.Photo quality on photo paper is very, very good. Text quality on normal inkjet paper is not perfect, but is more than adequate for most purposes, and is comparable to that of my larger Canon Pixma iP6600D.If you buy it to use with a notebook on the go, get the LK-51B battery. With the battery, I was able to shoot digital photos for damage reporting, download them to my notebook, and then print them off on 4x6 photo paper at a lease signing in a house with no electricity. Very convenient!

I had to replace an Epson printer and after much searching selected the CANON PIXMA MP530. I have a MAC system and the change over was relatively effortless. I just had to familiarize myself with everything.I print a lot of pages (I do genealogy research at home) and I like to print a lot of pictures. I also use the copier and scanner frequently and it went fine. I liked how I can tell it to fit the page to the paper and it does it beautifully (they probably all do it but this one does it perfect). I have printed pictures on some other paper I had on had and they were pretty good and when I used the sample glossy photo paper I had the most beautiful photos. They really looked professional. I don't know yet how well the ink will last but so far so good. I am giving it a workout. It is a great printer and I am pleased with all its features (I don't use the fax).I do know one thing and that is the next camera I will buy will be a Canon (I hope). The only drawback which is something I was aware of before buying the Canon printer is that it vibrates and I think the scanning may be a little slower than my Epson.I had an excellent transaction with Amazon and my printer arrived when promised. Great way to shop.

I've owned several Canon portable printers in the past, including the Canon BJC-70, the BJC-80, and two Apple StyleWriter 2200's (BJC-70 bearing the Apple logo). I've also owned several portable printers made by other companies, none really as satisfying as the Canon printers. I'm now using the Canon i80 (HP zd7000 & Windows XP). This printer clearly evolved from those earlier Canon printers, improving in some ways and not in others. On the positive side, print quality and speed is roughly on par with many desktop printers within this price range. Canon has also greatly reduced, and perhaps even elininated, the problem of the ink jets drying and clogging between print jobs (on earlier BJC models, the ink jets would dry out if the printer wasn't used for a week or so). And, unlike the i70, this printer comes with the multi-voltage power supply needed by international travelers. Other things have not improved. Like those earlier printers, the i80 suffers from paper feed problems, ranging from paper not feeding at all (unless forced), to multiple sheets of paper feeding at the same time, to paper not feeding straight. Of course, this is more pronounced with very thin or very thick paper (thick envelopes are especially troublesome, often only solved by sharply creasing the envelope edges before using). All this is more of a nuisance than a serious problem, so should not automatically rule out this printer from purchase consideration. It doesn't happen all the time, or even most of the time, and can be reduced with experience. The price continues to be high, especially with accessories often included with other portable printers (cables, battery attachments, batteries, and so on). If on-site portable printing is truly needed, requiring the purchase of accessories, I would have to recommend another printer with built-in battery. However, if one only needs to easily move a printer between hotel rooms, business meetings, or offices, the performance and convenience of the i80 wins out. Some things are a mixed bag. The case design of the i80 has improved over earlier Canon models. The paper holder/cover now completely covers the printer, protecting it from dirt/dust or while packed in a bag. However, at the same time, Canon switched that case from a neutral near-black to an oddball copper/tan color which doesn't match any computer I've ever seen. Of course, this doesn't really affect performance, but it is distractingly noticable. Finally, some things have gotten worse compared to earlier models. The i80 does not properly print some web pages in Internet Explorer without an external plug-in (Easy Web Print), which adds another IE toolbar complete with bright red Canon logo and buttons not matching other toolbar icons. Without this plug-in, the right side of some web pages are cut off. Canon either needs to reduce the intrusiveness of this plug-in or integrate this capability into the print driver as other companies do (the three other printers I now own handle these same web pages properly without a plug-in). Luckily, printing everything else with the i80 is entirely painless. In conclusion, all portable printers are a compromise offering portable convenience with some inconveniences. The Canon i80 is no exception. However, the inconveniences associated with the i80 are minor, easily outstripped by overall convenience and performance. As such, I can comfortably recommend this printer to any fellow road warrier.

it's great for on the go printing, but that's it. The photo quality is poor (especially if you're using PhotoShop, Windows, or other non-Canon printing). My print head just died after 6 months. Not at all impressed with it except the size (it works perfectly with my laptop and I was able to pack it in an attache case to travel). I am very disappointed with this product.

I use to have the PictureMate. I had a lot of trouble with it, seems there was just some sort of conflict with my software. I finally had enough of printing 10 pictures at a time and then rebooting and bought this little gem.Totally easy to use, has loads more printing options and the color on the prints is just fabulous. Is is difficult to find the cartridges locally, so be sure you buy plenty of extras to have on hand from Amazon.
