After almost six months of using this camera... I've decided it's one of the most versatile image and video aquisition devices I've used. I heartily recommend purchase.First, the photos. It takes really nice photos, deals well with low light and high light conditions (I have many awesome pictures shooting into the sun! Beautiful.) There are extensive automatic and manual controls. I print my photos through Apple's iPhoto (which imports well from the camera) and even after significant cropping, 4x6 photos are indistinguishable from 35mm photos. The video mode is impressive. This is a feature I didn't pay much attention to, but it really is a killer feature. I would never shlog around a video camera unless it was for special occasions where I knew there'd be lots to record. But with the PowerShot... it's small so you can take it everywhere... and it records great little videos ready for the web. Granted, its not as high of a resoulution as standard video, and the length is limited (a couple of minutes on a 128 MB CF card, but for capturing quick video (recently, of skier against a gorgeous mountain backdrop) it is priceless. QuickTime in Mac OS plays them flawlessly (even in the Finder under Mac OS X). The one caveat is not to film vertical orientation... because then there's no easy way to flip it. Did I mention it records sound? The preview mode is also good, smart enough to rotate pictures taken with a vertical orientation. And you can preview the movies (although without sound).Connecting to a Mac works well, either through the provided USB cable, or via Compact Flash card and adapter to a PC Card slot. The cable to connect to RCA input is pretty handy, as you can view pictures and video on a TV if your are away from a computer.Battery wise, there are some problems... after going through a 128 MB CF card of photos, you are going to have to recharge... that's my experience... also, there doesn't seem to be a battery indicator until you are out of power.Overall, a great investment!

I'm happy with the print quality from this printer for pictures (and the borderless option is great), but I've found that the printer utility software has too many limitations. You can not fine tune the settings to get the machine to print the way you want it too. Even when you select the manual adjustment setting, it often will not allow you to switch to the highest quality settings, etc. Another limitation is that the ink levels have to be reset manually every time you install a new cartridge. With my old Epson printer the controls could easily be adjusted in the software, and the ink levels were automatically read and adjusted by the software...no manual resets required. My other complaint with this printer is that it seems to make a lot of extra "noises". The actual printing is relatively quiet, but when it's not printing it will sit there and make all kinds of noises like it's processing information or something. My old (4 yr.+) Epson printer was much "louder" as far as the physical printing, but at least when it wasn't printing it didn't make extra noises.Luckily I got this printer for free thanks to a rebate offer, but had I actually paid for this printer, I would have returned it. I would recommend going with an Epson printer over this one based on the utility software performance alone. However, for novice users who just want to print pretty pictures and word processing files, they'd probably be pretty happy with this printer.

If you are looking for a camera that has excellent picture quality, easy to operate, and compact enough to take everywhere - Canon's PowerShot S500 deliveres. This camera replaces my Sony DSCV1 Cyber-shot 5MP and left treadmarks on it. The S500 has better picture quality and is smaller. These are the qualities that I want in a compact, portable, point and shoot rig. If you want more features consider the new Canon Rebel (digital rig). Pound for pound this camera hangs with the best of them.

I bought this printer because I needed a printer. The Epson that I wanted was out of stock. So far, I haven't been disappointed. The i550 has performed admirably. I've had only 2 problems.(1) On plain paper, color prints of images result in a lot of ink and the image can look poor. This isn't really a criticism of the i550 as much as something nearly all inkjets do with plain paper.(2) For a month or two, I had a lot of problems with black not printing, largely due to the print head. After quite a bit of cleaning, it's been fine, but it's conceivable that I may have to replace it in the future. I think this is probably just bad luck on my part rather than a flaw of the product. This being said, I've loved this printer. For the price, this printer can't be beat. On photo paper, it does an amazing job. Not only do my digital photos look fantastic, but I've been printing out scans and downloaded images on the photo paper with superb results. The software has all the printer controls, so you can manage and configure everything from your computer without fussing around the printer. It's a real no-brainer. It's relatively quiet, and the print speed is adequate. For simple print jobs, it performs admirably. The borderless photo printing is quite nice and results in a print that you'd swear is from film. If I had more funds, I would've gotten a different printer, but for the price, the i550 doesn't disappoint. My only word of wisdom: remember to buy a printer cable, whether USB or parallel, since it doesn't come with the product.

I have owned all the other brands, these new Canons with the 4 seperate color cartridges are about the fastest performers and least expensive to replace cartridges. I used to own 3 AB Dick offset printing presses and with todays technology all of my printing is now done on these printers. In the past 2 years I have owned the s750, i850, and I just purchased an i550 because my 750 just crapped out on me, when I use them I really put them through the ringer, literally thousands of copies are produced on these printers in my small print shop. Since I have converted to these printers I have sold off all of my heavy printing presses and equipment and now I can get even BETTER quality text, photo, and color registration without the messy setup of a press. I have been a commercial printer for more than 20 years and if these printers pass my standards for quality text, color, and photos you know they're good. I produce letterheads, envelopes, carbonless invoice forms, postcards, brochures, all with color or photos and with the Canon programs I can adjust colors and photos easily. I am always running 2 of these printers at the same time from one computer, if I had the space I would set up a couple more and run all of them at once.

This is my first experience with a color printer from Canon. But initial test on regular papers was disappointing, even I selected the correct regular paper printing option. I was about to return this printer, thinking that if the printing quality on the regular paper is as such, it won't hold much chance for printing photos, where the quality is more demanding. This turns out to be gravely wrong. The photo print from high quality photo glossy paper, a small gift package from Canon, is simply amazing and hard to believe. They are even better than my regular photos developed from the film. The time of digital camera and prints has finally come. It seems to me that Canon i550 is a great photo printer if using the right photo paper. I highly recommend the Canon Photo PaperPlus Glossy for this printer. I tried more expensive Kodak papers (e.g. Kodak Ultra Glossy). Canon's paper is better by a big margin, in terms of paper quality, printing quality and price. In picture printing, once you see how good a picture print can be, you will never want to keep a less perfect one. I ended up wasting my investment on Kodak papers, that I originally thought to be the best given the expensiveness of the paper (a price factor of two or more comparing to Canon's paper). In short, don't expect a great printing quality on the regular paper, and if the quality is not idea, make sure you use the right paper. The ink in i550 is more water like, and it produces beautiful photo print with a thin layer of ink that is tightly bounded to the paper. For regular paper printing, Epson C82 might be a better choice, since it uses a thicker but more expensive ink. Here are some small things that can change your experience with i550.(1) If you use USB port to connect the printer with your computer, make sure you order this cable (Belkin F3U133-06), a [money] item.(2) The installation manual is generally good except at one step. You need to turn the printer on in order to reach the gray printing head release and installation handle. You cannot reach it when the printer is off. In other words, you need to turn printer on when you want to install the printing head and inks.

I'm lazy. I did not feel like installing the driver on my laptop. So, I plugged the Canon ELPH camera directly into the printer, picked a photo, and printed it. Easy Peasy. I don't know how professionals feel about the print quality of this printer, but it is perfectly adequate for small family type snapshots. It is the size of a hardback book, which is very nice if you don't have a lot of room in the house for yet another gizmo. My only peeves are these: I had trouble figuring out how to put the print head in. The documentation is just a tad unclear. The other peeve is that the printing is very slow. It takes a while for the image to go from the camera into the printer's memory. I almost power cycled it, thinking I'd done something wrong or needed to hook it up to a computer to install a driver on the printer. However, when I got back to it after taking a break, it had printed out a nice little photo. It'd be nice if there was some kind of feedback indicating progress.

This printer does a great job with black text and the occasional color use I've required from it (please note--I have not used this printer for photo printing). It is fast, offers nice quality, and is easy to resupply. As with almost any printer nowadays, shop around for ink, and consider ink supplies besides the major brand names. Also, for most jobs, this printer produces acceptable quality when using a Draft mode--unless you get your ink for free, consider doing all but the most important docs in Draft mode.By the way, setup in Mac X and WinXP was a breeze.

Considering this printer costs less than the ink for most other ink-jet printers, it has far exceeded my expectations. It prints quickly and has accurate color, what more can you ask from a $50 printer? Another reviewer mentioned that it does not work with Mac OS 10.3 (Panther), they are wrong. There is a patch you can download and install at: http://www.usa.canon.com/techfiles which makes it work perfectly in Panther. Somebody else complained about it not including a USB cable, which it doesn't, as mentioned in the technical specs page. This makes it no different from any other USB printer sold in the last 3 years, so be sure to purchase a USB cable. If you are looking for a cheap no-frills printer that probably costs less than the ink for other printers, I highly reccomend this printer!

This is my second canon, my first was an i320. I only changed because I gave the i320 to my parents and I bought the i350 because it prints faster. The set up was a breeze. I print a lot of articles from online webpages and the quality is great. I do not use it for pictures though so I cannot talk about that aspect. What is great is that the ink lasts a while and you can get cheap refills when you need it, I usually get a generic at a local office supplies store or online whichever has the best deal going. And finally buying it at an auction makes it an even sweeter deal since you only pay a fraction of the retail price and most come new. You do need to buy a seperate USB printer cable. You can also get it at an online auction for cheap.Yes it is a bit noisy, it has a "pre and post printing noise", but that does not bother me since it does a good Job and saves me money.

Where do I start? This little bugger is AMAZING! I actually bought this for my son, because he got an iMac (being the Apple freak he is), and his printer was ailing. So I told him if he found one under $75 I'd get it. He did. He found the Canon i250.This little guy is so good! The quality is exceptional (and beautiful w/ Mac OS X font-handling.) and he can use it for everything, even printing photos. Now, I don't recommend it for exclusively photos, but for the occasional one, it's fine. Also, refills won't break the bank with about $7 and $15 respectively. Printing time is short; very efficient and quick. Also, it comes with many features that are considered as 'extras' with the others HE looked at. The only problem is it doesn't come with a USB cable, and that's all it's compatible with. But that's OK... I found a Belkin for about $5. I would recommend this to anyone, especially for document designers and offices for its 'bang for the buck'. Amzing features, reliability, efficiency/speed, and quality wrapped in a (very) tiny (perfect for portability.) package that won't break the bank.

Digital point and shoot cameras should not be looked at as a replacement to film cameras, the quality just isn't good enough for anything important or for images that you need to enlarge. But, for the convenience of being able to email your snapshots or upload them to a webpage or online auction quickly and easily, nothing beats a digital cam. The image quality of this Canon is acceptable if you understand that you will not be able to match 35mm film quality. The color saturation on the images is surprisingly good however you will notice some milky haze around some of the edges and background if you look closely. This is common (and expected) for low and mid range digital cameras such as this one. I bought this camera over the newer S230 model because of the price and the fact that the S230 has longer shutter lag. While the S230 has more megapixels, I wasn't willing to pay so much for images that would just end up being emailed and on webpages anyway. And the longer shutter lag in the S230 is unwelcomed. The image quality and 'look' is equal in both cameras as far as I can tell, of course the S230 model just makes them a bit larger. This camera is quite small, which makes it convenient to have with you all the time, or to put in your camera bag as an addition to other cameras. It only comes with an 8MB compactflash card. You will need another one. I recommend at least 128MB, which should give you 180 image capacity in the best picture quality mode with 'Super Fine' compression. The propriatary battery doesn't seem to last very long so it seems like an extra battery would be needed if you are going to rely on this camera a lot. But this will mean that you will have to carry around the extra battery, which adds a bit of inconvenience. All in all, Canon makes good digital point and shoot cameras for the money. The unit has a lot of features other manufacturers do not include (such as black and white and sepia modes as well as macro mode for close up photography) and it feels quite sturdy and designed well. It doesn't replace 35mm film cameras (nothing but the highest multi-thousand dollar digital cameras will), but for general snapshots and as a complement to your film cameras, this camera provides acceptable results.

Easy but seamful install.update 08 Apr 2004: On more thorough examination, the generic cartridges made photos with a bit too much red, YMMV.Want cheap wireless bi-directional printing? I, as many others, have waited for many years for the convergence of price, features, size and ease of use to hit that happy center point. Well wait no more! This Camera is just plain FUN. I have had it for 5 months and barely a day has gone by that I haven't used it. It really changes the way you approach photography since you can edit on the fly, the instant feedback helps you shoot till you get it right! Trial and error - the best way. Tip - after shooting an image hold the shutter button down and the image will show in the LCD screenIt's very well suited to people with a medium level of computer skills (perfect for Mac users) The photo stitch feature is awesome letting you seamlessly join panoramic pics together with supplied software.I recommend the following accessories:1. Extra compact flash card, as large as you can afford, I got the Viking 128 MB2. Extra battery, although the supplied pack is pretty good once it runs out you need a back up. (Get the elph Kit which includes a nice case and a really cool strap for not much more than a single battery)3. If you plan on using the camera with more than one computer (like home and office) get an extra USB connector so you don't have to bring it with you every time.4. Compact flash reader - I got one of these thanks to other reviewers although I don't use it much. You can upload 50 hi-res pictures in a few minutes with the supplied "image browser" software. It is a good battery saver but with a spare it doesn't matter anyway. I'm still waiting for the perfect printer, everythhing is SO big and UGLY! but I guess if I wait long enough...........

i've been using my s200 for a couple of years now, and it's toured the world with me. it's been durable, convenient, and a great home and road camera. i just got back from tokyo and took hundreds of photos and several minutes of video (30 second AVIs) with it. same with france, washington dc, and the like ...it's got good exposure detection, a very simple to use interface, and has the features i was looking for. the zoom is pretty good for most situations, and it's reasonably responsive (boot up time, delay between click and exposure). i'm not that thrilled with the macro capabilities, my nikon coolpix 800 did much better. nor am i thrilled about the "no zoom during movie capture" feature. overall, i'm quite happy with my s200 as a point-and-shoot camera. i'd definitely get it again if i had the choice to do over. however, now i'd probably go for a few more bells and whistles, including more optical zoom and better macro shots. still, can't beat the form factor!

Wow, I have searched for a quality digital camera and found one. It's only 2 megapixels, but it is more than adequate. The pictures I took were all great, the close up shots for detail shots are incredible perfect color and lighting everytime. I had a hard time between this one and a Canon A60. I had a Sony before this one and this one beats hands down. The Canon A60 has alot more features but a higher price tag. I got this one at my local Staples for $ 220.00 - BRAND NEW !!!!The case is small and sturdy stainless steel. Great pocket camera. It is not a pro camera, and not a basic point and shoot, it can record up to 1 minute with audio!!! It has a microphone!!!Bottom line it is a great buy and quality is excellent. I even took a picture with just a candle lit and it calibrated for light for a great shot!!!Why 4 stars, well the buttons are tiny, bigger hands will have a hard time with this camera, and a replacement battery is very expensive; although do a search on Ebay and many vendors have the battery for $10-15.00; as opposed to $50-60.00 on retail sites. As for memory cards go to Crucial.com for the cheapest memory anywhere!!! I got a 128 card for $25.00 !!! There prices do change.Pros: Compact and light, simple menu, easy to shoot, stainless steel case, cheap memory, movie mode, great shots, even in the dark!!!!Cons: Special cable for video(included) and USB, so don't lose them or you'll have to order direct from Canon; special battery- not AA's, too small for bigger hands.Final say: Great for trips, and to carry in your pocket, but if you have bigger hands and a few extra dollars, go with a Canon A60. The Canon A60 uses AA's and it's case is bigger(although plastic), and has a few more advanced features.

I bought this camera as a birthday present for my wife about a month ago. It's our first digital camera, and we're basically "point-and-shoot" types. So far we love it. The tiny size is a big plus as it easily fits in purse or pants pocket. It feels very solid and the controls are well laid out. Even my wife (not technically inclined) finds the camera easy to use. It also has some neat features such the built-in automatic lens cover and automatically detecting whether you're taking portrait or landscape views and rotating the images internally. It also has an amazing "stitch" feature which will combine several panorama photos taken end to end into one long image. It automatically matches the edges! It's slightly distorted, but still pretty neat. How do they do that? The way the menus are displayed on the LCD screen makes changing camera modes a breeze. You can also upload pictures to your PC without pushing any buttons just by plugging it in! The user manual seems well written considering the complexity of the subject. Like others, I was disappointed that Cannon does not provide a case or larger CF card, but for the money the s200 still seems a good deal. Our local 'big-box' store matched the best price I found on the internet. The picture quality at high resolution is terrific. I view them on my 19" PC monitor and they look very professional. Even the medium res pictures look good. Another unexpected plus was the included software. I found it very easy to use and with plenty of features for a beginner. The included ArcSoft PhotoImpression software does everything I want with a digital photograph including special effects editing, cropping, text layering, framing, making greeting cards and calendars, etc. It simplifies placing multiple images or combinations on one page, which minimizes waste of pricey papers. It also has a "fantasy" section that lets you create dummy magazine covers featuring faces from pictures you take. Lot's of fun to play with, though I haven't fully explored it yet. All told, we are very pleased and impressed with the camera. While I'm sure other digital cameras provide many of the same features, Cannon's photographic reputation, other user reviews and the camera's small size ultimately sold me on this model. This is a great little point-and-shoot camera, I only wish I'd had it on our trip to Europe! I don't think we'll ever go back to 35mm again!

It is reasonally fast and best of all the ink cartridges are very inexpensive compared to other printers I've used. I have used both Lexmark & HP printers as well. Both of them printed well also. The lexmark was very slow to get good quality & the HP was both fast and had good quality, but both of them used very expensive ink cartridges. I don't know yet how long the ink will last in the Canon, but I will be printing a lot more photos than I used to simply because I will not worry about the cost of the ink used.I would recommend this printer to anybody interested in getting a good photo printer without having to spend a lot of money!

This is my 3rd digital camera, having owned two bulkier Olympus models previously. I was looking for a smaller camera that would be easier to carry. After much research I chose this Canon S400, and it's just about perfect. The display is clear and easy to use. The included rechargeable battery and charger are easy to use, very small, and the battery charges fairly quickly after the initial charge. I took it with on a trip to DisneyWorld, where I took about 50 pictures daily. It fit nicely into a small pocket of my waistbag. I purchased with it two 256MB Sandisk CF cards, they have worked flawlessly thus far. Hooking the camera up to my iMac was no problem, I hooked up the included USB cable and iPhoto instantly recognized the camera; the pictures were uploaded in no time. The only thing I'd really like is a decent case to protect it in my bag. The Canon case that can be purchased separately is rather chintzy. I currently keep it in a neoprene eyeglass zip case that I picked up at a sporting goods store.

I carried an S100 for a year and a half, having concluded at the time that size was key -- after using some ... cameras (like the Largan L-mini, 640x480 w/flash) and getting useful but not great pictures, my primary consideration was that a digital camera needed to be small enough that I could carry it *all* the time, so I could capture pictures of interesting things without planning.Note that this is not the right approach for everyone - deciding how you'll *use* a camera is a personal choice. If you don't think you'll take pictures in every day life, but just on vacation... or if you need to take pictures for work... you may find that size isn't key, and you may be happier with a larger camera (though I'd recommend other Canon models in that case, including the 330) or a cheaper one. However, if you're like me, and want to capture the world around you, but in good enough quality to get 8x10 prints of the *really* good ones... if you want to have a camera that fits in a pocket so you don't look like a tourist all the time... this camera merits a good look. When I say "worth upgrading": I loaned my S100 to a friend shortly before the S200 came out. 130 pictures/day later, my friend had to have one, so I took another look at the S110, which seemed a fine replacement -- and then the S200 came out, and I had to have it.Features that make the upgrade worth it: video clips (long enough to be interesting; not only is this good for catching cats and trains, there are also cases where you can't get a clear still shot but someone looking later will get more out of a short video clip) *with* audio better low light support (both automatic and manual settings down to ISO400) anti-redeye flash option ROTATION SENSOR (worth shouting about - it's so nice to just rotate the camera for framing, and have the results come out properly tagged.) better (2- and 3-zone) autofocus/light level sensing on-screen histogram for low-light shots (lets you tell if you really got nothing, or if you can pull out more detail in post processing) "view pictures" mode lets you zoom all the way in, allowing spot checks for blurriness directly on the camera. New batteries are 25% more powerful.I'm quite pleased with it; I've taken 700 pictures, 100 movies, and 4 panoramas, in the two months I've had it (and 1500 pictures and 7 panoramas with the S100 before that.) Note that the panoramas are worthwhile - you just want to make some effort to set them up, rather than try randomly. One was an "all guests at wedding reception" panorama that I got printed as a 6 foot by 6 inch strip, which made a great christmas gift to the couple :-)

I have had my Canon S200 for about a month now and am absolutley pleased with it's performance. First the design: it is literally the exact size as a pack of cigarettes. (with the cool weight of a tiny gadget like a zippo lighter) Very sturdy feel, feels like a block of metal in your hands. The case does not get smudges from fingerprints and have not noticed any scracthes from everyday use.Second, picture quality: I have only printed 4x6 prints onto photo quality paper from an Epson Photo printer and as an amateur photographer was amazed at the picture quality. Very crisp colors and details, from daytime outdoor pictures to nighttime indoor pictures. You can see tiny freckles on ppl's faces, good or bad I dont know. There is a macro mode for close-ups. A manual mode which is intuitive, for example, if you want to take Non-Flash shots where flash is not allowed, you dont have to set for No-flash everytime you turn the camera on and off. Set if for Manual Mode>No-Flash and everytime you turn the camera on and off the flash is automactically set off. (or vice-versa) ISO can me set, as well as shutter speed. which is also nice for more creative ppl, or for dark situations.Third Battery life: I recently took a trip to LA, with two 64mg Compact Flash cards (set for highest resolution each card held approx. 180 images: the camera "says" the card can hold 70 images, but i kept on going to experiment and got different from 180-200 images!) So everyday I would take 120-140 images, go to my hotel recharge the battery, which lasted the whole day, download the images to my laptop and be ready for the next day. and a note, whether you set for high or low resolution the camera takes same amount of time "writing" or recording to disk which is btw very fast. I have both Sandisk and Fuji brand compact flash cards and have not noticed any performance difference.I was deciding between the S200 and the S300 which are identical, except the S300 has 3X optical zoom instead of 2X, and also has a longer movie mode. 2MegaPixel is perfect for 4X6 prints and 8X10 prints also.If you are new to digital cameras you will be absolutley satisfied with this camera's print quality, ease of use, battery life, as well as more advanced features which I have not used yet such as the longer shutter speeds. A good online source for digital camera research can be found here: dpreview.com and canon's site has sample pictures taken with this camera. Have fun.

The Canon i250 is marvelous. My old HP died, and I wanted an inexpensive printer now because I expected at a later date to buy a new computer and a higher tech printer. Now I need neither. In other words, the Canon i250 allows me to print wonderfully what I thought only higher tech/higher priced printers would! I've been able to print greeting cards, as well as photos and crisply clear documents. The i250 only takes seconds to warm up, and each print job is done quickly and beautifully. This printer allows one to choose a variety of print qualities and paper types to ensure the best print for each job. Set up was super easy, as is the printer's use. And noise? It's not excessive; I never even give it a second thought. Along with superb performance and inexpensive price, another great thing about the i250 is that I can buy both a black and a color refill cartridge for it for less than I'd pay for one HP cartridge. What a super printer bargain!

It's the best piece of electronics that I have ever invested in. Problems with printers are the rule rather than the exception. My printer is the exception. I've never had a problem with it. It printed everything I've ever wanted without flaw. Since I am a student, I run thru ink every two months during the school year. However, i don't run out during the Summer. Ink WAS expensive.(...)

Canon has really made a name for itself in the last five years, with its low-cost, well-designed, high quality home computer products. This printer is no exception. As is noted in many other reviews, you'll need to buy a USB cable to connect this printer to your computer. Make sure you get the A/B type, with the long flat connector on one end, and the square-ish connector on the other.Once you get the printer connected, Canon's made setup easy; USB installation is made easy with the included software and drivers. All you'll need to do is click "Yes" and "OK" a few times, and you're done. The print quality is above average, and astonishingly good for this price. If you're trying to find a printer for high-end reproductions of digital photos, you may want to look elsewhere. But the resolution, clarity, and color reproduction of the i320 is better than average, and more than adequate for most personal/home needs. One of the best parts of this printer for me is that Canon has made the ink cartridges inexpensive to replace. A replacement black cartridge costs under $10, and the color cartridge is under $20--much cheaper than many other manufacturers. It was less expensive to purchase this printer than to replace the ink cartridges on my old printer. Additionally, the ink lasts for a long time before it needs to be replaced, making printing economical.Overall, this printer is one of the best purchases I've made for my computer. Low price, easy setup, and good print quality make it a perfect choice for the home.

We have had our Canon S400 for about 4 months & it has been wonderful -- as well as the Canon battery. The charge lasts for a pretty long time. We bought a generic battery (from an individual seller off this site) for a backup. It died in a little over a month. Don't bother trying to save money - just get the real thing (which this is).

I bought this printer because of the good reviews here, and I was not at all disappointed. This printer is better than the $100 one I had before! It is a little loud, but the print quality is excellent, and it doesn't take up a whole lot of space. Not to mention the $6 ink cartridges. You're not going to find a better deal if you want a printer for text documents and the like.

This Canon s520 printer received high marks from CReports. . . so I bought it. It worked well for about 8 months, but it DID consume a great deal of ink--much more than my old HP Deskjet that it replaced. Suddenly, it won't print in black, and no amount of online troubleshooting, new ink cartridges, or cleaning seems to help. New printheads cost TWICE as much as the printer did. Now I'm stuck. I HATE Canon printers, but I have 4 refill cartridges of every color (since I was always running out). So do I trash them or try to buy another junkie Canon to use them in? Hmmmm. . .

ok, let's be blunt. Here's the bad:1) It can shake almost violently, which is rather disconcerting.2) Ink runs out quick... but I think that's because the one they ship it with is pretty much empty to begin with.3) Noisy. So noisy there's actually a "nighttime" option in the driver set up to make it go slower and make less noise.4) Paper intake seems... questionable, but no mess ups yet.5) Borderless prints seem to cut off some of the picture around the edges.6) I believe this to be just my set up, but did not work with Win98SE. Currently, I have to share the printer on my network with my laptop and then send the job to that machine have it print correctly.7) No USB cable....but there's reason to like this little printer too...1) The print quality is pretty dang nice for the price you pay. I paid $50 for it, with a gift certificate and for that price it isn't a bad deal.2) Although noisy, it is decently fast.3) Looks good, doesn't take up much space.4) Did I mention it's cheap?5) Ink replacement is pretty cheap too.6) Gets the job done.7) Cheap cheap cheap.

Based on much of what I read here as well as external reviews, I purchased an S520 from Amazon a little over a year ago. The performance has been decent, but I noticed several things which quickly became annoying:1. Long cleaning cycle, which drained ink -- this occurred mainly during start ups or powering up.2. Problems with the auto power-offWorst, after a period of about one month without use, I found that the black ink printer head had clogged. The cartridges were not run dry, nor did I use anything but original Canon ink. New cartridges did nothing, nor did repeated deep cleaning. I even used alcohol and Q-tips without success. After looking on-line, I learned that this is an identified fault with this model. Am about to try my luck with Canon, but don't expect much results. Caveat emptor!

This is my third Canon printer in about 10 years, my first two lasted roughly 4-5 years, and when I needed a new one, Consumer Reports gave this model its top marks. After six months I started having problems with clogged print heads on color. Several deep cleanings, which deplete ink quickly, seemed to resolve this. After a year, the print head is so bad that I can only print in high quality mode. I called cannon and they expressed that the print head is designed to last 1-4 years, depending on use! When asked how much it cost for a new print head...$113.00!!!! Canon just lost a loyal customer.

It's on my system but the system doesn't recongize a USB can someone help? ugg. Now, I have to call Canon..(and oh '95 drivers are not available on the web!).. help. The UPS shipping was on target for the 1 day shipping service, and was well worth the extra money. I felt like a kid opening up the UPS box, then the printer box. Then after carefully installing the printer (I already had a USB cord) and software per Canon's instructions, I gave that little toy a test and man was I impressed! I've been using an old BCJ-250 for about 5 years now and didn't realize what an updated printer can do. I know I may have to refill my ink cartridges a bit more often but I mainly use my printer for online reciepts, news letters and emails so I should be fine. I'm not a professional photographer but was very happy with the photo results I got out of the printer. Not bad for not being listed as a "Photo Printer" I think. I know, everyone's different, but I would highly recomend this printer. Especially to people who don't like clutter like me. That design is awsome and ironically matches my desktop computer, and scanner in color.

I bought this after I was disappointed with the way my ink jet printer handled photos from my new digital camera. The price seemed low for a quality photo printer, but the reviews were good so I figured it was worth the risk. I am amazed by the quality of the prints I am getting with this printer. The colors are vivid and the detail is rich. In fact the prints are much better than I was getting from my old 35mm camera and better than the digital prints I was getting from professional photo printers. The Canon software is easy to use and creates better prints than the Kodak software that came with my camera. The most significant factor, though, is the quality of the photo paper. Canon Photo Paper Pro seems to be, by far, the best paper and the brilliance of the prints deteriorates markedly with lesser quality paper. Unfortunately, the paper is expensive and makes printing at home slightly more expensive than sending the pictures to Shutterfly, York or CVS. Nonetheless, this printer provides the option of quickly printing high quality pictures at home. No more waiting for pictures to come in the mail

About three months ago I bought an HP photo printer which was fairly well rated. I was somewhat disappointed in the quality of prints from my digital camera and wondered whether my 3 megapixel camera would ever produce great photos at home. Several weeks ago Buy.Com offered these printers for $39; I couldn't resist temptation and bought one. Having now printed more than 100 photos, I'm not thinking I need to go somewhere to get my photos printed. Forget HP and high ink prices. My Canon 475D produces exceptional photos and the ink is cheap; I just bought 2 black and 2 color replacement ink cartridges for around $19; and I'm only about 60% through my original cartridges. I'd buy another one of these in a hearbeat, great value.

I purchased this printer 2 months ago and have found the perfect home printer. The main reason I was in the market was the high cost of "color" inkjet cartridges that I went through like candy in my old Canon and HP printers. I did my research and I wanted a printer that had separate color tanks so that if I ran out of cyan ink I wouldn't have to trash the whole cartride that most likely had plenty of yellow and magenta inks. The individual tanks are far cheaper to buy (at about ~$$$ each) than a new color cartridge (~$$$). Now for performance. The output quality is fantastic. I have printed out over 40 photos on 4x6 glossy photo paper (I have used 3 different premium glossy brands with little, if any, discernable difference in sharpness or color fidelity. I work for a large major medical equipment manufacturer and we ditribute "low-end" printers for over $10,000 that you would not be able to tell the difference in quality with the naked eye given the same source input. The bottom line is that the photo print capability of this printer is nothing short of stunning. I am also more than happy with the general purpose color and document printing on standard high resolution paper contrary to a number of reviews (usually from editorial product reviewers) that I have seen elsewhere. The speed of both photo and general purpose printing is nothing short of astounding. I couldn't believe my eyes at the output speed of photo prints and general purpose documents. Documents came out nearly as fast as a laser printer I have at work. And the pinter is so darn quiet. Except for the normal "thunk" as the paper is fed into the machine, I can barely hear the printhead while it is in operation. In short, if you are looking for a printer that is miserly on printing supplies that produces fabulous photo and general purpose output, then GET THIS MACHINE!

I used a friend's S200 prior to purchasing my own camera. Although I decided to buy the S230 for the extra megapixels (3.2 versus the 2.1 of the S200) I was very impressed with the S200. If you do not intend to make many 8x10 enlargements and none larger than 8x10 and you have a budget this is a great little camera. The pictures at 4x6 size are as good as the S230. The video clips are adequate and have sound. Most important this camera boasts the same small size, easy to use dials, sturdy metal case and quality workmanship and design as its more expensive sibling. The drawbacks of this camera are the: 1. There is a very minimal(2x) zoom. 2. There is not any warning before you run out of memory on your compact flash card. 3. There is insufficient warning before you run out of power. 4. There is an appearance of red eye in many indoor photos. These problems can be remedied by always starting out with adequate memory on your card, charging your battery before each use, carrying an additional battery and CF card, and turning off the flash whenever there is adequate light available. This is often the case even indoors. As for the zoom get closer. Do not use the digital zoom as picture quality suffers.I have discovered that by taking these precautions I've been very satisfied with both the S200 and the S230. They are both so easy to use and to carry on even vigorous outings as they easily fit in a small pocket. The case has protected my camera from intense humidity and a fall onto concrete. All in all I'm very satisfied.

Too bad Amazon stop selling this terrific printer. I can't believe how easy it is to use the onboard buttons and functions to print pictures without the computer. All you have to do is use the Dazzle 4 in 1 card and bam! there is your photo with great quality for family and friends. I am currently using a cheap Olympus D-380 with a smart media card. The S530D may not have the best print quality on the market but it is totally suitable for the home use. Some people just get too critical on print quality on this printer, its a home photo printer, not a commerical grade photo printer! Other than the ease of use by itself, its easy enough just to plug it in with the USB port. USB is the only way to connect it to the computer, but so what, all computers nowadays have USB. I must say, this was money well spent compared to my crapy Epson 777. Ink for this printer is much afforable too.

The awsome of this Printer its offers a extremely SHARP and Detail Image of pictures, compare with the Epson C series I think the Canon offer a much better rich and vivid color than the other competitor of his class. But nobody can bit this price.I only have one problem: The Color Ink Cartridge is more expensive than the Epson C series price is range from $5.00 to $6.00 more. Also The other concern that I have with this particular i450 Canon printer its only use two cartridges of ink combine a total of four color, one black and one with three color, well I don't know may be I am very selective and I like more quality of printing. And also the printer itself when its not operating and stay idle for a period of time the printer start make wired noise sound like a going to print something.A must have on this printer "USB Cable, don't forget" doesn't come with it.But overall I think it is a Good Value printer to get.

Canon used to make the best printers, but they fell behind a few years ago. Now they have taken the lead again, in my book when all is considered.
