I bought this camera in May 2002 and I've been very pleased with it during all this time. It takes great pictures and I've had paper copies of lots of pictures with good result. Today you get cameras with 4 or 5MP for the same prize as I bought this one back in 2002, but considering the price of this camera today you get a really good product to this prize. If you want a small and camera easy to use that gives good enough pictures for to reasonable cost this camera is definitively a good option.

I am a casual photo enthusiast who enjoys taking pictures of my friends and family wherever I go. Both photographic quality and portability are of paramount concerns and I think I found my holy grail with Canon S400.Pros:- Extremely portable, yet very rugged- Beautiful design with excellent overall ergonomics- Typically excellent photo quality in all-auto mode with no redeye- Very fast -- startup time, image processing and acquisition, menu response- Long battery life- Uses widely popular (and inexpensive) CompactFlash Type 1 memory cards- 4 megapixel resolution (2272x1704)- 3X optical zoom/11X max with digital- Useful movie mode with audio (3 minutes at 320x240 or 160x120)Cons:- Minimal manual controls (e.g., no manual focus)- Cheap A/V/digital output cover- Movie mode limited to 3 minutes (and no 640x480 mode may irk some)- Proprietary battery- Some barrel distortion when taking wide angle shotsWhile S400 has some shortcomings, mainly lack of manual focus, exposure, and shutter speed. And some may be bothered by its use of proprietary lithium ion battery, although given its compact size, I think Canon engineers had to implement proprietary battery. On the plus side, the battery lasts a long time, capable of taking several hundred shots before running out of juice (and takes only a couple of hours to recharge).I've managed to fill entire 512MB memory card (32MB is included) on a single battery charge.Did I mention how beautiful this camera is? The photos do not do this camera a justice. At 3.4" by 2.2" by 1.1", the S400 is no larger than most compact cell phones. Inch by inch, it's only a tad larger than my tiny Sony Ericsson T68i cell phone and smaller than (although a bit thicker) my Apple iPod MP3 player. The ergonomics are consistently excellent. Although there are some learning curves (particularly given rich feature set), once mastered (comprehensive manuals make it easy), most will appreciate elegant menu layout and ideal number of buttons and layout. But beautiful design means nothing if it does not accomplish its main functions -- taking beautiful pictures. In full auto setting, which is what majority people might use, the pictures were consistently satisfying, although overriding the white balance to match the lighting condition improved the quality significantly in many shots. This is a great camera.

THE GOOD: (1) This is the lightest printer among peers. HP's 450cbi, the closest alternative in my book, is nowhere near as portable as the i70. (2) Prints directly from a digicam. I use Canon's G3, and I can now share photo print-outs straight from my camera. No need to lug my laptop around. (3) The battery life is great, don't believe detractors. IN general you don't need the battery -- that is only for outings, for those occasions when you just have to print out something while sitting by the lake. (4) It is FAST! Especially for color prints, it outpaces my full-blown HP laserjet. (5) It is QUIET. You'll have to get used to its noiseless printing. First time round, I had to check to make sure the paper was printed on. (6) Is a breeze to INSTALL. Something you can expect from Canon, of course. (7) Works with both Windows and Macs. CAVEATS: (1) The photo quality may not appeal to shutterbugs, especially if NOT printed on photo paper, but for general office workers with little desk space or for folks with a packed travel roster, the i70 is a pretty safe bet.(2) The ink costs may sky rocket quite quickly if you print colored stuff often. If, like me, your general printing is B&W, then this is a great buy. (3) The price, especially if you buy the battery pack. But there are deals if you know where to look. SUMMARY: A great overall printer, definitely if you need to carry one around. I purchase Epson's photo paper (not Canon's own) for color shots and the i70 prints more than adequately. The speed, the quality and the quietness make it one of my top printer recommendations -- all things said, even better than a regular inkjet.

I just bought one of these little beauties and am very happy with it. It fits right into the case with your laptop or notebook so that it can go anywhere with you. Easy set up and high quality prints that are sure to please. Alot of added features that allow you to stitch together photographs and other little tricks. The price can't be beat, as it will be $50 more in an electronics store. The only hitch is that it doesn't come with a USB cable, so add $30 to the price tag.

I've had my S200 for three weeks now, and just had to post and let others know this is a great camera. This is my first digital camera, and after much research, I'm pleased to think I got exactly what I needed.Pros:- Sturdy! Portable! I work at a summer camp and wanted a camera I could take around with me and not worry about. I've already dropped this camera several times (pretty hefty drop once) but the metal casing is sturdy enough to take abuse. As always, be careful, but you won't have to worry about breaking this camera. You also won't have to worry about lugging a huge camera around and having to set it down everywhere. Shorts, swimsuit, whatever - it'll fit in your pocket.- Print Quality: I got my first ofoto.com order the other week and the pictures look GREAT. I was worried that 2 mpxls wouldn't be enough, but even the 8x10 I ordered came out fine. Make sure you have a large memory card (I have a 128 mb one) and take pictures on the best possible setting.- Good battery life: I've seen some bad ratings on this, but don't know why. I take lots of pictures and always use the LCD screen. With that usage, my battery lasts from about 7:30 in the morning until 11:00 at night. I just come home and charge it each night. If you turn the LCD screen off (and the camera off when you're not using it) it will last longer - I've used it for two days straight before charging it. Extra batteries are relatively inexpensive, so get one if you can, but you can always get one later and still enjoy your camera.Cons:- No case. You really need a case. I've gone caseless for three weeks now and there is a lot of lint inside my viewfinder (but no other problems). The Canon paperwork is a little confusing about which case is designed for the s200 (get a case designed for it - it's too small to fit anything but a made-to-order case), but check powershot.com to find out which one to order. It's a cheap way to protect your camera for a long time. Buy it online, too - I'm having a hard time finding a case in a store.- ZoombrowserEX. The software program that comes with the camera to organize your pictures and take them off the camera is not designed well. Windows don't pop up right, and it's easy to permanently delete some of your pictures (no recycle bin).- Slow. With the red eye reduction flash setting, it takes _forever_ to actually take a picture. Even the autoflash function is still slow. With plenty of light there's no problem, but the flashes tend to be a little slow (although, if you prefocus, there's not as much of a wait). Don't buy this for sports photography.-Uploading old images. I've had problems with taking pictures off my SimpleTech card and then putting them back on. Half the time the pictures are squished or streched, especially portraits. I'm not sure who's at fault for that, Canon or SimpleTech, but it makes it annoying when you want to share images with your flash card.Overall an excellent camera. I'm very excited about it and would recommend it to anyone who wants portability and great pictures. I picked the s200 over the s330 because of size (the s330 looks a lot bigger). None of the extra features on the s330 made up for the size difference.I tried to cover all the bases here. Hope this review from an amateur photographer helps.

Excellent for traveling. Good features, not just the typical point and click type of camera. For example, you can take great pictures at night leaving the shutter open for a few seconds, some cameras don't allow more than 3 seconds. My only wish is that the battery would last longer. I had to buy a second battery.

I have had this printer for more than a year. At first, it was a great printer. Not anymore!! It uses up ink like no other, yes, it is great to have the individual tanks(which is why I bought the thing) but now the print head isn't working right. Do several deep cleanings and use up nearly all the full tanks up, and the problem is still there. The pages have splotchy black marks and the texts are only partially printed. Went to the canon website, they don't even acknowledge this printer ever existed. My recommendation is don't buy this model!!!

About 4 months ago, I was in the market for a printer to replace my Epson. The Epson was fast, printed good quality documents and pictures, but it was an ink hog and I just couldn't afford new cartridges every month.I wanted a everything- decent print speed, good quality prints, efficiency, something that wouldn't guzzle ink, something simple to use, and something under $150. A friend suggested a Canon, because he bought an S-series Canon for his business and had wonderful things to say about it. I asked another techie friend his opinion and he said to go with a Canon, too.Seeing as how the I-series is basically a newer, upgraded S-series, I went with the i550. Since then, I've been very pleased with the purchase. Prints are beautiful, and documents printed are wonderful- letters are clear and crisp. I was so pleased with it that I chose to with Canon again when I bought a scanner a month later. I like that this printer also features 4 separate ink tanks, so I don't have to buy a whole new color cartridge when I'm only low on one color. The physical design of the printer is very nice, as well. Some printers look hideous, but it's pretty sleek. I also like how I can close up the printer when I'm not using it. There are flaps you can snap shut to close up the paper feeding area and the output area where the prints come out. I have two cats, so cat hair gets everywhere, and the last place I want it to get into is the printer. It's given me no trouble at all with my Windows XP operating system. I've printed documents galore and many pictures, and I've barely dented the ink. For those who will be printing picture prints, I'd suggest you use Canon's photo paper, as it seems to get the best results. This printer isn't exactly what I'd call silent, but I wasn't expecting something that'd work completely quiet in my price range. It's a trade off I'm more than willing to make for a good machine.I've been very satisfied with this printer. It's sleek, cost efficient, handles various jobs well, doesn't waste ink, and is perfect for the average homeowner and small businesses who just want an inexpensive machine that lives up to its hype.

I bought this printer because it was getting good reviews and was very inexpensive. When I recieved the printer the box had a giant hole in it and the packaging in the inside was broken but the printer looked fine. Set up is extremely easy and impossible to screw up. So I was very suprised when the printer was showing that there was an error with the ink cartriges. I called Canon and after a few minutes they determined that there was some sort of hardware problem. They sent a brand new printer which arrived the next day. The second one set up in a couple of minutes and works perfectly. Also I ended up with extra ink cartriges because the only thing Cannon wanted back was the printer and print head. The printer works great (a little noisey and slow, but inexpensive) and Canon had excellent customer service. I suspect that the printer was damaged during delivery and not during manufacturing.

I beg to differ with all the raving reviews. There is something very wrong either with this camera's light metering in `auto' mode or its ability to register a wide range of tones - or both. It will work acceptably in diffused light, i.e. with an overcast sky. But try to shoot people in bright sunlight and you get pictures that are far too contrasty: Eyebrows, nose and chin shadows come out far too pronounced. Things are worse if there is a somewhat light background, like lots of blue sky or any non-dark wall. The system goes bezerk and yields pictures where the background is `burned out' while your darling spouse is a dark silhouette. The same happens if your son happens to wear a white T-shirt and you attempt to shoot a waist-up portrait: his face will come out underexposed. There are ways to overcome such problems (to a degree!): Switch to manual mode. But who really buys a point-and-shoot camera to fiddle with manual settings? If to get acceptable pictures I have to exercise `creative control' I might as well stick to my old Minolta Maxxum. The result will not only be acceptable but PERFECT pictures. But back to the S200 Elph. Another criticism is that parallax correction is way out: Unless you're shooting landscapes there's very little in common between what you see through the viewfinder and what the lens sees. Of course you can always discard that and compose through the camera's small LCD back panel - but try seeing anything clearly there in sunlight! Two minor negative points concern the flash (you get more `red eye' pictures than usual in point-and-shoot cameras) and the Elph's accompanying software. This is annoyingly basic. As an example, if you `correct' a picture's contrast (or colour or brightness) and save it over the original you lose all camera settings data (including date/time of shooting).Much has been said about the Elph's features. It is certainly impressive that so many are crammed in a camera this small. I am, however, unimpressed with the result. Any film-camera in the S200 Elph's price range will yield vastly superior pictures in auto-mode. All the features in the world cannot hide that.

This camera is fantastic for convenience. It realistically fits in your pocket, and its compact brick-like shape means nothing is protruding and getting dented as you walk around. I take it places that I'd never take a larger camera, because I can bring it along without a big camera pack hanging off my shoulder. The main complaint I have is that the image quality isn't great. It's good enough for snapshots, but I've had a lot of so-so pictures. My former digital camera, an Olympus D-460 with only 1.3 megapixels, took sharper and better-looking images. A lot of my pictures on this camera look all right from far away but up close everything is a little fuzzy. Here's a summary of my pros and cons with the camera:Pluses:* Size -- it really can fit in your pocket.* The charger is small and light-weight and works in standard 2-prong 110V outlets.* Nice viewing of shots on the camera -- loads quickly and there is speedy and good navigation, even when I had 100s of pictures.* Battery life is great.* Video mode is a blast.* Battery charges quickly, around 2 hours from totally dead.* You can plug the camera into a TV with included cables and view your photos there.Minuses:* Picture quality isn't great.* Sometimes when you take a picture with the flash, it takes forever (we're talking holding the button for 10 seconds or more) to take. I found I could improve this by depressing the button slightly to get the light setting, seeing the red light go one, and *then* pushing hard to take the picture, then waiting another second or two for it to take. But try explaining that to a Chinese person who you don't know who's taking your picture for you!* No software included to create a slideshow. I was hoping for something that would make a nice picture-and-video slideshow.* The video mode can't adjust to different light settings in the course of filming, so whatever setting you start with is the same one it will maintain even when the light changes.* No warning before your battery dies. The warning light comes on and poof! 30 seconds later the camera's dead.* No sound on video playback on the camera (there is sound when the clip is downloaded to a computer or played on a TV).* Maximum imposed recording limit for videos, regardless of how much memory is on your memory card. At the middle quality setting it's about 10 seconds, and at the low quality about 30.Overall I think the camera's size makes it a good camera, it could use some improvements particularly in picture quality but for casual snapshots it'll do the job. A similar camera worth checking out is the Minolta Dimage X. It's slightly smaller, has longer video recording capability, greater zoom, and audio on video playback, but I've heard the picture quality is worse than the Elph.

The personal printer market is quite confusing right now. The big companies have at least a dozen printers each on the market and it is tough to figure out where the good deals are. I've been researching for several weeks to replace my HP DeskJet, and I've been going crazy trying to figure out what to buy. I needed fast text, the ability to do photo-quality prints, and a low price. There are a bunch of high-end desktop printers that will meet these criteria for around [that price], but I didn't want to spend that much if I didn't have to. I kept going back and forth between several printers that have been on the market for quite awhile and got good reviews back when they were new but they are cheaper now because they are old (the Epson 820, for instance). But I finally found the Canon i450 and ended up buying it. I couldn't be happier. After comparing features and print quality on so many different printers, I finally found the perfect combination. The text prints plenty fast. And the photos are excellent. It uses the 2 picoliter dots like the i850, so you get the same high quality. And all this for such an amazingly low price?? And you'll notice the ink prices are relatively low as well.A previous review talked about the noise level. Let's discuss that for a minute. If you're like me and don't replace your printers every few months, you'll be pleasantly surprised by how quiet the i450 is. It is far, far quieter than my DeskJet. Perhaps there are quieter printers on the market, but we're not talking about a vast noise difference here. Obviously everyone has their own level of noise tolerance, but I'm one of those geeks who is psychotic about making my PCs as silent as possible and I still think this printer is quiet, so judge for yourself.

Installation is simple, and Canon's setup guide walks you through all the steps. The printer doesn't make a lot of noise (my old Epson was LOUD). The remote shut-off feature is novel, and there is even a quiet mode. The main selling point of this printer is the cheap ink, and its low price makes the deal even sweeter.

I have owned this printer for nearly a year, and have found that it will print for me about 30% of the time. Most frequently, the paper doesn't feed correctly, and the rest of the time the ink runs dry (even though there is a lot of ink left) and a "cleaning" and a new sheet of paper are required. Nothing would give me so much pleasure as dropping this worthless piece of junk from a very high building and watching it crash, but then instead of having print capability 30% of the time, I would have it 0% of the time, so I would be less frustrated, but overall worse off. I can't get my $$ back at this point, and so I guess I'm stuck with it.I will say that when it does print (and the ink hasn't run dry), it is of good quality. But that is such a rare event, it is hardly worthy of note.Three months after I wrote this review, I called Cannon for service. They referred me to a service center about 10 miles from my home. When I called as well as when I dropped the printer off, the service people were fast and knowledgeable. They replaced the print head and now I do not have to clean the head before each use. The paper feed often needs to be tinkered with, but other than that, I am now happy with this product. Cannon even mailed the printer back to me so I only had to visit the service center one time. While I was initially very unhappy with the printer, I was very pleased with their service and the printer works much, much better.

Canon has got itself a real winner with this one.The S500 is a very comprehensive point and shoot.Quality construction, ease of use, asthetically pleasing and good value.Pictures come out sharp and vibrant. The movie mode could be a little better(compared to the new Sony DSC T-1 which can take video at 30fps,just like you would see on a DVD)but that's a small complaint. All the new cameras coming out in May04 from just about all the manufacturers will have a high-res movie mode,so you might want to wait if you want to take video with your cam as well. Back to the Canon.I highly recommend this camera.Of course you will want to upgrade the included flash memory of 32MB which is just not enough. Also get some sort of carrying case, this camera is too expensive to let it get knicked or bumped.I found another site that has great articles on digital cameras:www.digitalelectronicsreview.com Check them out for a second opinion.Enjoy

I bought this expecting it to be my "starter" digital camera. as often happens with electronics I buy something and then, through my experience, refine my concept of what I need. Normally I end up purchasing something closer to meeting my needs in a second (or third!) purchase. Or I buy something not quite as expensive as the "top of the line", only later to break down and pay for the improvements/enhancements garnered by laying out the long green. I may have proven those theories wrong with this purchase. frankly, I can find no major faults with this camera. I have taking photos since boyhood and have owned quite high-end 35mm cameras from Nikon and Canon. I am demanding in image quality. This camera has fulfilled all my expectations and more from a digital camera. BTW 2 megapixels is more than enough if you use the highest quality setting on the camera and do not plan to enlarge your photos to larger than 8X10"...but who does? the color rendering is also spot on. the metering takes a bit of study (of the manual) and practice to get the right results under tough lighting condition but once you do master that you can get really great results. the only limitation I find with this camera is the zoom. too little optical zoom range for my tastes and the digital zoom results in reduced image quality. BUT HEY this is for trips, etc. not for professional results, I guess I was spoiled by all my telephoto lenses on my 35mm cameras, I have gladly left all of that bulky equipment in the closet now. Rugged construction and nice to look at. great photos and low-ish pricing. what's not to love. I think you will not be disappointed by this camera.

I'd been waiting for the five megapixel version of this camera to come out, but after a bit of research I have some advice; buy the four megapixel version instead. Canon's been having problems putting five megapixels on such a small sensor like the ones used on the S50 and S500 (they use the same sensor). Check out the online review at dcresource(dotcom). Why buy a five megapixel when you get better image quality and smaller file sizes with the 4MP version of the same camera? I ended up buying a brand spankin' new S45 on closeout from Amazon for 2/3 of what these sell for.Let the members of the upgrade of the month club have their new toy, and be waiting to take their "old" camera off their hands, or buy a new one at a fire sale price.

The camera is dense for it's size and with the "center of gravity" where it is, relative the tripod socket, restricts the camera's use in the vertical position when matched with a tiny tripod like the Sima ST-10T Mini Tripod with the tripod legs retracted. Get a slightly larger tripod (30-50% larger) and everything will be just fine. Second, the camera will let the user set exposure compensation in 1/3 EV increments, and set the type of lighting source, ie florescent, incandesces... but not in video mode.

Canon have done it again and produced this year another great ultracompact camera. The Powershot S500 really hits the mark for me. Small, and well designed it is also a well-rounded performer in the digital camera world. At 5 megapixel resolutions you can take very good quality pictures. The camera itself is aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. It comes with 32 MB compact flash, so you may well want to upgrade this capacity. Also, a case is not supplied in the box. Still these are small minuses. Like a lot of the newer ultracompact digital cameras the S500 has a movie mode, and can capture 2-3 minutes. Outdoors it takes some very nice pictures, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by its indoor performance with flash. It is possible to take some good photos without red eye problems. You cannot really go wrong with this camera if you want a good high performance compact.

The new Canon PowerShot S500 is a 5MP upgrade to the immensely popular S400 model, which was a 4MP digital camera. The S500 produces excellent images, is easy to use, and is compact enough to carry in a pocket. 3X optical zoom is standard on these cameras. Besides shooting still photos, you can record low-res video clips as well as audio clips, but don't expect high quality on either. For a hundred bux less, you can get the 4MP S410 model which is otherwise identical to the S500. Should you go for this or the S410? I think for most consumers 4MP is plenty enough, with room for cropping and enlargements. 5MP is only necessary if you really crop a lot *and* plan to blow up the cropped images. The S410 strikes a great balance between pixel count and price -- it's a better value.

This was a great printer...Crisp clear graphics and text. But it just recently started printing "foggy" lots of fuzzy text. Then the black stopped printing altogether. The color printed fine but NO BLACK. Not exactly helpful for printing papers. Canon help desk was very quick getting back to me about the problem. Probably a bad print head, but it should be taken to a fixit shop to get checked out. Fixit shop wants $75 just to look at it, which is applied to the first hour of labor if we have it fixed. Print head runs about $45. I can buy a whole new one for that! I would by a Canon again but definately get the extended warranty. Buy the comparable ink from Carrot Ink.com. Cost alot less. Refilling doesn't not work with Canon. This was my 2nd Canon and refilling the cartridges didn't work with either.

Hi, I was searching for cheap, fast, quality B&W and reliable printer for home priting. So far only pleasant suprises. 1. Separate replaceable print head and ink tanks. 2. Ink is CHEAP. one black cartridge lasts about 300-350 one side pages in draft mode (see next) still i did 3. Increadible good and fast draft mode for documents. In my oppinion it's better than normal mode because on sheets i use'normal' mode does not look any different just tends to soak thepaper.(i use plain A4 sheets) 4. It's not so loud as people say It does not bother me much. 5. It's pretty fast for an inkjet printer. Overall it's very good. Better than my previous 3 owned. I hope it lasts long :) so i can firm my good impression.

After extensive research on the web ...I chose to upgrade my Canon S20 to a Canon S400. In someways, this was a step down. Unfortunately, the S400 does not support verticle alignment of it's panoramic "stitch assist" mode as they do on the S40, S45, S50 and other higher priced models. I found this feature on the S20 to be very useful in capturing more image (greater resolution and consistant panning) when stitching photos together to make a panoramic photo. Also, the S400 does not support the higher resolution movie mode of 640 x 320, as some digital cameras support. Hopefully, Canon will address these feature shortfalls with a firmware upgrade in the near future. As mentioned in a number of reviews, the S400's flash is miniscule and thus is somewhat inadequate to light wide distant shots.Canon has improved the intelligence of the powershot digital line. Specifically in the S400 the Digic processing makes for fast picture taking and viewing. The size of the S400 is grand. It does fit in a pocket and powers up so quickly, you may never miss another shot with this camera (keeping in mind to charge your battery and have enough flash memory for the moment!!!).The bottom line... the Canon S400 is compact, sturdy, and fast. If you are looking for a very small 4 megapixel camera with nice even colors, low levels of distortion, a basic movie capture mode, fast memory writing and reading, the S400 is a current top pick. However, if you are looking for lots of manual control, vertical "photo stitching," and more pixels try the S50. One note if considering the S45 or S50 cameras, play with the navigation buttons before purchasing the unit; I have found the navigation to be somewhat clumsy in-which it is easy to hit "enter" when trying to navigate "up" or "down," or hit "up" when trying to "enter."

This camera is a cutie, and takes great outdoors pictures on automatic mode. One trick I found to get good all-around pictures is to put it on manual mode with "flash-enabled" at all times. This gives you good pictures indoors as well as outdoors in most situations, especially backlit ones. Also, pictures with the flash have less shadows on the faces. On my recent vacation I used the Canon s200 almost exclusively since it is so portable. You can slip it in your pocket and have it ready in no time. Besides, it is unobstrusive, and you don't go around looking like a tourist with a big bulky bag. You can also print out pictures with the Canon CP-100 Digital Printer, which is a small portable dye-sublimination printer (not inkjet, so it won't smudge). It's a great combo to take on vacation or to a party since you can print out pictures right there and share with friends and relatives.Another neat feature is the stitch-assist mode. You take a series of pictures, by looking through the LCD, it'll show your previous picture half-way and helps you to line up the image. You can then import this sequence into the Photostitch software provided and get an instant panoramic. The Canon Photo Browser software remembers which set of pictures were shot in a series, and the transfer and stitching is very easy and automatic with a few clicks. This feature is great for vacationers and real estate agents, and adds to the fun of using this camera. The resulting image is likely to be huge, but using any photo editing software you can reduce the size for web-pages (set the width to 800 pixels) and create some really awesome vacation web pages.Another fun feature is the movie clips you can take. It's very simple to use. Just slide it to movie mode, push once on the shutter-release to start taking the movie, and once to end it. Surprisingly it even records sound, so you can get the kids to say Happy Birthday to their grandma and send it to her via e-mail.For convenient show and tell, Canon includes a cord that allows you to connect the camera to a TV (and there is both a video and an audio cable - for the sound in the avi (movie) mode).

I've had my printer for over a month now and everything is working just fine. It's easy to use and the print quality is very good. I made my mom 50 transparencies (large, color transparancies) of book covers for a presentation she's going to do in late May (she's a children's book author) and they all came out exceptionally well. I also printed her 200ish business cards which came out really well too. I did run out of ink within a month of having it but considering that I had to print all this promo stuff for my mom I shouldn't have expected the ink to last forever. Unlike my old Epson, this printer lets you replace the ink cartridges realy easily. You just lift the front cover up and the little holder things move to the middle and stops. And you can do this whenever you want regardless of the amount of ink left in the tanks (which is nice). When it tells you the ink is low you can still get a bunch of prints out of it before it needs replacing but it's nice to know when you're running low so you can buy ink before you run out. The only thing that I don't like about this printer is the fact that it DOES NOT come with a USB cable to hook it up to the computer. It's kind of [disappointing] to have it come without a cord cause you really want to hook it up and try it out but you can't. Actually, you can make prints without connecting it to your computer if you have a camera with a Smart Media memory card. So I tried that out before I hooked it up to my computer and it was just peachy. All in all I really like this printer. Just be sure to buy a USB cable (a printer one: one small end and one regular sized end) beforehand or the same time you order your printer so you can use it right away. (By the way, consumer reports recommended this printer. It's like 1 or 2 on the list I think.)It's a good choice moneywise and print quality wise.

I'm thrilled with my Canon i250 inkjet. It has performed flawlessly for a month now. My two teenagers are happy with it also and today is the first time that I have had to replace the black ink cartridge. For an economy priced printer, this one does it all without complaint. The quality of the print, both color and black, is good as well as the speed of the printing. It makes a bit of a racket when printing but you quickly learn to live with the clanky noise. I've had no paper jams so far which is good. The printer is compact and will fit into a small space. The ink cartridges are reasonably priced which is another plus. The USB is not included so be prepared to buy one. All told, I've had a positive experience with this printer and I would not hesitate to buy another.

I'm a big fan of Canon cameras. I have an old AE-1 SLR, a point and shoot, and a Powershot S100. I got the S500 mainly because of my past experience with Canon. I'm not disapointed in the least. I love my S100 because of the size. I literally carried it with me everywhere I went. Now with the S500 I do the same thing, and the pictures are so much better. I just got my first set of pictures from Ofoto and they came out stunning. The pictures are sharp, vivid, and balanced. I love my S500. I do think you should get a bigger memory card, because 32mb is barely enough for a handful of pictures. However, the camera is top notch. And the size makes it so much easier to deal with. Your not giving up quality for size with this thing.

Buy this printer now! I can't say enough about how incredibly good this baby performs, and for less than $100! You basically get a printer with the specifications and features of a machine that would normally run $200+. The ability of direct printing via memory cards, and print resolution that rivals most high-end printers make this a no-brainer.My only issue is with this listing, i wish Amazon would be a bit more competitive with their price.

The printer is a day old and I must say the software is not terribly intuitive. Give it a letter grade of C. I prefer my old HP 950's software. If you want darker print in the HP you simply move a slider toward darker. Good luck in figuring out how to do this on the Canon. Also I was a bit surprised that you must manually align the printheads in the Canon, which is a minor annoyance. Its an automatic function in my very old HP.On the plus side, the print head in the Canon is easily replaced in a few seconds unlike some Epsons which require a trip back to the factory. On the other hand, you get a new print head on the HP every time you put in a new ink cartridge (they are part of the cartridge). The printer is pretty quiet but there is a snap as it loads each piece of paper. There is a quiet mode I havn't tried. The printed manual is almost as bad as the software.Replacing ink cartridges couldn't be easier.I was very concerned about the faintness of the printing when I printed the alignment pages but an actual document looked much darker. I've printed the alignment pages and the noozle test pages a number of times and they are always very faint but actual documents look fine. Seems to me a test page should print out correctly but not in the Canon's case! Another software issue. As mentioned, the printed manual isn't very good either. A number of settings aren't even discussed. This may be one very good printer but its software and manual are pretty poor. I bought it because ink costs are reportedly low. Time will tell.

I bought this printer just over a month ago. In that time, I've printed out a test photo and several regular prints. As noted by so many others, the photo print was on par with what you'd get from your local 1-hour photo store or other bargain place (Costco, BJ's, CVS, etc.). My wife noticed that the flesh tones were slightly grey, but the photo was taken on an overcast day with a 1.5 megapixel digital camera and no color correction was performed before the print was made. The quality of the printouts for text is what I'd expect from a good inkjet printer. It's definitely on par with what I get from the HP 5000DN at work. Text is sharp and crisp, no visible blurring around the edges. Do note, though, that I use heavy-weight (24lb) inkjet paper for my printouts, and from other reviews I think that plays a key role in the quality of the text printout. The durability of the ink was proven really well by accident. I had printed out some directions, and after the event put the printout in a paper bag for recycling. When I went outside the day it was due to be picked up, the bag had tipped over in the night due to heavy wind during a rain storm. The printout had fallen onto the street and was soaked through. When I picked it up, I found that none of the ink -- black or color -- had smudged at all and the entire printout was still 100% readable. Now the most important part of this review is how I was treated by Amazon after the purchase. Four days after I bought the printer, the price went down. I sent an e-mail to customer service and they credited me the difference the next day. Even better, I checked the price again 30 days after the purchase date, and found it had dropped significantly further. I e-mailed them again, and they once again gave me a credit the next day! No hassle, no arguments, nada! This is outstanding customer service and I think it's great that Amazon offers price protection like this! Kudos to you all, Amazon.com customer service reps!!

I was in the market for a portable printer to use with my Fujitsu Lifebook. The portable markey is pretty small, being that there are only a very few printers that are small enough to be called portable, but still print on full-size paper. At first I didn't like anything available. I checked in depth but nothing out there really caught my eye. One day I strolled on over to Canon's website and what did I see, but the i70 listed as "Coming Soon!"I decided to hold off on buying a printer until I could see the i70 in person, which I later did. It's beautiful. It's sort of a platinum silver color, with a rich blue printhead cover. It closes easily and a small magnet keeps the bottom sheet-feeder attached to the top cover (it's way cooler than I'm describing it...)Installation was a snap. Typical of Canon. I'm running Windows XP and I have no problems in the slightest. The first thing I noticed is that it's quiet. I didn't think it was really printing until I saw the paper coming out.Second: it's FAST. It's the fastest inkjet printer I've ever used, beating out my HP 1120C in both speed, noise, and print quality. It's not labled as a photo printer, but the print quality of the i70 is just amazing. If there's a difference between this and real photo printers, I haven't seen it, nor do I care. It's good. VERY good.I have not tested the infrared communications yet... I send everything to the printer via USB, which is a breeze. To sum it up:Pros:AppearenceSpeedNoiseQualityCons:Not the same silver as other Canon products (such as the LiDe30) but it's still so pretty...I HIGHLY recommend this printer.
