Very pleased with this Canon product. However I don't think I should have been charged sales tax seeing how this item came from New Jersey.

While I really like the camera itself, having no problems (yet), the bundled software for Windows is simply spoken a catastrophe. Installation as Administrator works fine, the software runs as long as I am admin but not when logged in as user. It took a whole while until I finally managed to get it installed in a way that at least I can use the software as normal XP power user. Now, after running the latest update it does not work anymore except as Administrator and it seems I have to go back and reinstall it from scratch from CD because the update does not install unless the previous version is installed (although the update does deinstall the software as first step...)The installer is also not compatible with XP System Restore functionality. I tried to revert back to the point before the update but then the software wants the CD to install something again. This obviously should not happen if it was compatible to a XP restore. The software service is incompetent, only advice: "turn off firewall and pop-up blocker" and despite of that "deinstall and reinstall". I don't need support service for that and automated service would be enough...I like the camera and I like the software if it runs but the installation and the service is horrible.

There are way too many cameras in this category that you could spend months researching them all and you'll probably still be unsure that you made the right choice. The S200 was one of my picks and the fact the my brother has the older S300 and really likes it made my decision to get the S200 easier. Amazon also has the best price when you include the free shipping. I bought this along with the Viking 128 MB card. Below are the pluses and minuses that I've classified thus far:+ Compact size and solid Japanese construction+ Featured-packed with many manually adjustable features that I don't plan on ever using+ Comes with rechargeable lithium ion battery and charger (this will save you around $50)+ Records video and audio and has A/V outputs so you can plug it directly into your TV to view the pics and video+ Nice packaging and excellent documentation - you get the actual paper manuals, not PDF files on CD. Everything in the box is well layed out+ Sharp LCD screen+ Excellent picture quality- Lack of a case or protective cover of any kind- Flimsy terminal cover on camera- Pathetically small 8 MB CF card that was included- Unlike some other brands, namely Olympus, your PC will not recognize the camera as a mass storage device, so depending on your version of Windows, you'll need to either install Canon's software and/or drivers. I personally don't like installing software on my PC just to be able to download the pics off the cameral. I'm not into touching up pictures, so all I want to do is plug the camera in and drag the JPG files from the camera to my PC's hard drive without going through some custom program; you cannot do that with this camera unless you have Windows XP or ME, according to the manual.Things you should get along with the camera are: a case, larger capacity CF card, and a CF card reader so you don't wear down the camera downloading pics to your PC. I don't think an extra battery is something that you should get right off the bat because it's expensive and, unless you plan to take pics all day, would not be necessary. The included battery should be adequate as long as you're not using the flash and LCD with every pic. If you do plan to get a battery, I've learned from postings elsewhere that you need to make sure that the battery has the same V and mAh ratings as the stock battery. The third party batteries might state that they are compatible, which is entirely true, but they have lower power ratings than the original Canon battery. You'll be able to use them, but they will not last as long as the original Canon battery.Overall, I think I made the right decision with this one. It's not the best camera out there, but for $, I doubt you'll find anything of this quality that comes with rechargeable batteries and charger. Most pics that I've taken came out fine. Some pics with flash look grainy while others with flash look great - I'll have to take more pics and experiment.

I've read the other reviews on this item and these people know what they are talking about. DO NOT BUY GENERIC. ONLY BUY CANON BRAND BATTERIES FOR YOUR CANON CAMERA. I've tried the cheapie $5 generic battery, it didn't even last a week. I have also paid about $35 for a digipower which is sold at some stores in place of Canon at about the same price as Canon so you would think you are getting a good product for your money. WRONG! I have had my Canon battery for almost 4 years, and my friend has had one for 2 years, they both work as well as when we first purchased them. The hold a charge for a long time. Just beware when you're looking to save a buck, you'll regret it, I sure did. Having a back-up battery is a fantastic idea, but only if it actually works!

This camera has proven to be quite an excellent companion. The pictures have decent quality and the battery life is excellent. It's survived a few drops on concrete with some serious nicks and scrapes, but the camera continues to function like a champ. The quick start up and small size make it easily fit in a pocket which will make you more likely to have the camera close by for those 'canon' moments that can come at any time. The pictures print in excellent quality (use an HP photojet with a Mac). The software with that comes with the camera is sufficient with the stitching software proving to be quite capable. I use other programs such as elements and iphoto for all other photo work which is usually superior to any photo software that comes with any camera. The durability and battery life have me sold on this camera. The picture quality is fine for my needs although I would like to be able to adjust the flash intensity for close up shots (currently try to filter the light with my finger over the flash which somewhat works). This camera replaces an older 3MP Sony camera with much satisfaction.

Excellent Photo Printer. Very clear and a ton better than my old Epson C82. I use a Kodak 6490 Digital camera and it produces great pics, especially on the Cannon Photo Pro paper. I haven't tried my old Epson paper as of yet. It is nice to have the option of not having to boot up my PC to review and print my pictures as well. I can use either the card reader or the USB port, SD card slot is easier. Nice to see store quality prints right out of your printer. Very quick and quiet! My old Epson created gloss and non-gloss areas on the photos, these are full gloss with color correct images. If you are going to do more text printing you might want to go with the IP4000 as it has a black pigmented base color for sharper text printing. I did print off some docs though and they looked just fine on this printer. I did a good deal of research and it would have been either the 4000 or 6000, for the "best bang for the buck". I purchased my IP6000D at Best Buy for 125.00 (box was open) normally 179.99 the IP4000 was 119.99 normaly 149.99.

When I purchased this camera, I was looking for something that was easy to use, and yet able to provide quality images. The S200 gave me everything I was looking for, and more. As for the reviewer below complaining about poor picture quality - you can examine each picture the second after you shoot it, and delete it if it's not a quality shot. If you choose to keep poorly shot images, rather than deleting them, that's not the camera's fault. It's yours. The menu is easy to navigate, in general. If you choose to be really technical and explore every bit of the menu, that may be a different story. I use the menu to adjust general image quality and things of that nature, and I find it to be very intuitive. One other recommendation I'd have is to purchase a larger memory card if you plan to use the camera on vacations. I bought a 256M card and that's actually overkill, but rather too much space than not enough. I also purchased an extra battery so that I could have a spare ready to go when the other is depleted. I'm sure these two extras have greatly improved my experience with this camera. I would certainly buy it again in a second. The S200 is cheap, small, and it does everything the average person who's looking for a digital camera could ask for.

I couldn't decide which printer to get. I am using a Sony DCS P9 (4MegaPixel) camera. I bought both the Canon I850 and the Canon S900. I decided to use both and whichever one I liked better, I would return the other one.I was only using Canon Photo Paper Pro papers. I used both 4x6 and 8 1/2"x11" full size papers. The price I paid after rebate and tax on the I850 was $140 (yes, afer rebate and including all taxes) and the Canon S900 set me back about $250 dollars + tax. Both were equally easy to set up out of the box. I was comparing 3,072 nozzles on S900 to 1,600 nozzles on I850. But, the I850 also offers:5 and 2 pico-liter droplet size for ink...S900 is 4 pico-liter248 RAM buffer for quicker printing compare with 80 for S9004 colors of ink cartridges including a double size black (because it does text well, too)which is cheaper to replace than 6 cartridges on S900Very, very quiet operation BOth were quiet but I850 was quieterLiked the fact the I850 has a door that closes on front AND BACK...the S900 doesn't close on back to keep dust outSmaller in size than S900...and sleeker looking in aluminum lookBottom line...I could see a difference in certain kinds of pictures...I saw a little more purple in a flower picture printed on the S900 and more of a deep blue color on same picture printed on I850...the picture looked more blue than purple on my computer though so I don't know how good a test this was. This color shade difference may be due to the 49 graduations of color available on S900 and only 27 on the I850. But, on most printing, the sharpness seemed to be slightly better on the I850..only slightly better...details were darker on the I850, like outlines of green leaves on trees.Would I justify the difference in price for the difference in print...ABSOLUTELY NOT. It just seems that the I850 is the newest printer technology and the S900, although only out since March 2002, will probably be replaced in the next 6 months or so with newer technology similar to the I850. Some colors on S900 came out with a different shade like bails of hay in a Halloween shot; on S900 it had a little more yellow tones than the I850 but the I850 had more detail on lines in hay and on my kids hair. Both were excellent and I took both 8 1/2x11 sheets (1 from each printer) to my local Best Buy store on a Saturday and the Canon rep working there couldn't tell the difference between the two printer's results. Bottom line is; If you need a magnafying glass to see the difference, then the I850 should be the choice. These pictures on both printers rival those that you get from local photo developing store...and you can adjust the contrast, brightness and color to your liking. The speed when printing pictures on the I850 is fast. Again, I must stress how quiet this machine is while printing. You will almost forget it's on even when printing. The software that came with the I850 is Canon's Zoombrowser 3.5 version...the S900 came with older version. I took the pictures to show some friends and they couldn't believe I printed them at home. If you get this printer, you will not regret your purchase. Just remember, from what I've heard, that it does make a difference which photo paper you use...Canon's Photo Paper Pro is the BEST (and Canon claims pix will last 25 years on this paper). The text is quoted in Black/White as 22 ppm (WOW). Also, haven't done it yet but I've heard from other's that the I850 does awesome Black and White pictures...better than the S900. I hope this helps in your decision...by the way, it does only take about 30 seconds to do a high quality 4x6 print on this printer. An Epson of equal comparison would easily take at least 4 to 5 minutes to do the same print!!!

I tried three different memory cards and they all have the same problem. Mine worked for about 18 months before it started having these problems.

I think this printer offers good value, esp given that it uses six inks; many printers in this price range only have 3-4 inks. I guess because it is not very compact. I got this for my parents who are not very computer savvy, to let them print their own pictures. I use a website to upload pictures to print (which I think is still the best value), but I just cannot see them doing that. The printer is great because it doesn't even have to be connected to the computer (another potential problem for them). Using the memory card slot is faster than the pictbridge connection. Now they print pictures on their own, instead of the pictures being in their camera for eons.Thank you to all the previous reviewers who helped me choose to buy this printer. I liked the point about being able to replace individual ink colors separately. I am very happy with my decision.

I have both the i250 and the i350. The i250 print head failed after 3 months of use (blank lines in the middle of words), but was still under warranty, so I managed to persuade Canon to send me a new print head. BTW, the print head costs about $45 to $50... almost the same as cost of the printer. Next, I upgraded to the i350. This time, the print head took 8 months to fail...same problem. I regard these as disposable printers, nothing more. They work great until the print heads fail.

Included software is good, but i'd recommend Picasa 2...free download from Google, for Window's users. It's as close to iPhoto that I can find for XP. Pictures developed via Walmart look spectacular. 512 mb card helps. The 128 card that I had before would only hold 50 pictures from this camera...

I've always been hesitated about buying a photo printer; I finally took a chance with this canon pixma 6000 photo printer. I've read different reviews, at first I was debating on the hp printer but I've read that it doesn't work with the operating system XP, and has only one block of ink cartridge. That's what made me decided on the canon, for the fact it had separate cartridges, so if one color runs out u just replace that one and don't have to toss the rest of them out. For the picture quality, I found it to be a high quality photo that you would get when you take it somewhere. I found that the canon printer should only use the canon paper to print on for the best quality picture. The setup it rather simple you don't need brain work. I find it to be worth the money.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it does!. I bought the Canon S230 (3.2mp) in January and have already upgraded to the S400. This camera has been in stock for several weeks at online stores I probably can't mention here. I've had mine for a week now. Overall this is a great camera, it's the same size as the S230, very carryable, high quality, improved optics and zoom (3x optical instead of 2x) and the extra megapixels come in handy. There are a few minor points to pick at.1). Certain parts of the camera are now plastic instead of metal as on the S230 (from what I can tell, the zoom ring around the power button, the chrome ring around the lens, and the edges of the lens). The main body of the camera is still metal, however it's a new finish (Cerabrite) which has an odd plasticky look to it. Overall the construction quality doesn't feel quite as nice as the S230, notably the feel of the buttons when pressed, however it's nothing to be alarmed about.2). For some reason Canon removed the 640x480 movie mode option. I never used the movie mode extensively, but this might matter to some users.3). While some people might like it, (I think it's tacky) Canon has added the following useless features: Camera startup sound, shutter sound, camera display theme and startup image. There are cheesy sounds like a bird chirp, or a wolf howl, startup images like a Canon logo, picture of sunset, bird, etc. Due to the addition of these features the camera now has a tiny speaker. One benefit of the speaker/sounds is that Canon has added a self-timer sound which I think is useful. Some other nice additions/changes include the ability to edit the length of movie clips on the camera, a closer focusing distance in the macro setting, and the ablility to record a sound bye of up to 60 seconds to a picture (also useable as a simple voice recorder for recording memos, thoughts, etc) which will play back via the tiny speaker. The microphone has been moved from the front of the camera to the top, this could be good or bad depending, it may record less wind noise in windy situations (especially if facing into the wind), however it may also no longer pick up quieter sounds due to the repositioning. At a minimum I would reccommend the use of a 128mb card, preferrably 256mb or larger. At less than $$$ I would suggest an external memory card reader to be used for transfering photos instead of the Canon software which seems buggy at times. As far an extra battery goes, some people won't live without an extra. With the price of the battery, I'd pass. Canon says the camera is good for 190 photos with the LCD on (400+ with LCD off). I've never taken more than 50 pictures in a day and have always had an opportunity to recharge the battery during some down time in the evening. To sum things up, if you're looking for a high quality high megapixel camera that's easily carryable, and hardly noticed in most pockets, this is it!. The combination of size, quality and features of this camera are unmatched!. If you don't require 4 megapixels or want to save $$$ I'd highly reccommend the S230 which I have also reviewed.

At its value price point, perhaps you can't expect perfection from the Canon i250,(...) I find very few reasons to complain. First off, the quality of printing was surprising for a standard, 4 ink printer, even on digital photos. For photo prints, does it perform as well as, say, an HP Photosmart 7960 with its 8 inks (which is over 4x the cost)? Of course it doesn't. But for routine use, even on the occasional photo, it's really not bad. When in its normal printing mode, it's not a speed demon, but it does perform reasonably well, and is typical of printers in its class. On the up side, consumables for this printer are remarkably affordable, providing somewhat of a disincentive to pursue refill kits. They also seem to have a fair and reasonable number of prints per cartridge change. But if you do choose to refill, I've found the print cartridges in the i250 refill easily and effectively, free of print-counter chips (so popular in Epson's printers these days) that are such a pain. And speaking of Epson, recent Epson inkjets I've used will end-up with clogged print nozzles if the printer sits unused even for only a couple of days. Not so here; I've gone weeks between prints, and it fires-up and works perfectly each time. Also a plus is the printer's compact size. While you still need to allow space for paper movement, when not in use, the top folds down and it's small, shoebox size let's you put it most anywhere.Truly, at this price, almost anyone can afford one, and it'd be money well spent in my book.

I am a big fan of Canon cameras, so I might be a little biased. But that doesn't mean I don't use cameras from other manufacturers. I have found that Canon cameras, in this case the Powershot S500, are at the top of the camera market. The design is terrific. Canon really outdid themselves with the design of the Elph line of digitals. It's good looking and compact, but still packed with all the features you need. The one thing I really love about this camera is that it just feels solid in your hand. It's a small camera, but some people are surprised at how solid it feels.Included with this camera is a high speed 32mb compact flash card. They're the first to include a card of this type and size which is great. But if you're shooting at maximum resolution, you can really only take 11 pictures. You'll need at least a 64mb card to get 24 pictures at maximum resolution. The quality of the pictures and performance of the camera are very high. I can't believe the amount of information that is captured at 5 megapixels. The pictures are remarkably clear and vibrant. The camera performs well in all conditions. The low light assist lamp works well. The only thing they could have included was an 'action' shot mode that trims down the shutter speed to capture fast moving objects or people. The software you get with this camera is very good. Easy to download pictures, great organization, and all the little features like stitch assist are great.Overall an excellent camera. If you're looking for a top of the line point and shoot, you'd find it hard to find a better camera than the Canon Powershot S500.

This is my first digital camera, and I have no regrets. It's a damn fine point-and-shoot with very intuitive controls and can be used virtually right out of the box (just charge the battery a bit). The video capture feature is just fine; afterall, if you wanted a video camera, you would have purchased one. I considered the Sony DSC-T1, but with Sony's proprietary memory requirements, the cost/benefit just didn't add up. The S500 is a sturdy camera, and should satisfy the casual photo enthusiast for quite some time. The included software is also user-friendly and easy to use.My Canon Elan 7E and Canon Elph 2 kept me content for quite some time. With hundreds if not thousands of dollars spent on photo-processing however, it was simply time to get into the digital age. For accessories, you'll want to get a case for it (such as the PSC-50) as it only comes with a wrist strap. In addition, consider purchasing a larger CF card (256MB or 512MB... I purchased the SanDisk Ultra II 256MB). Once you buy a card, you'll be able to use it in digital SLRs if you go that route; the included 32MB card will quickly run out of space if you are taking full resolution photos.Anyone interested in taking the leap into digital photography and wanting unbiased reviews should take a look at Steve's Digicams at www.steves-digicams.com. Choosing a digital camera is very much a function of lifestyle. If you are used to SLRs and like being able to bring multiple lenses for special photography opportunities, then consider the Digital Rebel or EOS 10D; you won't find better cameras on the market. If however, you want a compact camera that you can easily take anywhere, consider the S500 as a happy travel partner to capture those moments, and never process film again!

I still couldn't believe that a brand new S500 only has a 30 mins of life span. I just received my brand new S500 this weekend. After taking 35 photos in 30 mins of its first use, it stopped functioning, shut itself down, with lense sticking out, lense cover wide-open. On the left lower corner of the LCD screen it showed E18. I contacted Canon CSR, he told me that it's called E18 error, meaning the lense won't retract, so it shut itself down to protect from further damage, and it has to go back to service center to repair. I post my experience on dpreview.com forum, and in one day there was a response from another s500 owner, saying that his first s500 suffered from E18 error after 2 months of use, then he bought another for his trip, then after 7 months it died from the same problem. After intensive search in the internet, I notice that I was not alone. E18 error results from the unreasonable mechanical design of the camera, the lack of lubrication of the metal motor and plastic lense track. After some use, the plastic wears out and the lense fails to retract. What I couldn't believe was that my s500 died from this problem in 30 mins, unbelievalbe. Avoid S500/410 by all means!During my research for E18 error problem, this page pops up, if you're interested:http://www.bitnet.cx/canon.html

I bought this to pack with my eMachines notebook because we take 40 guys to Myrtle Beach each October. I needed less hassle than carrying a bulky laser (I was using a Samsung ML1210), and something faster than an older inkjet. Do not compare speed to much older inkjets of 4 or 5 years ago -- this seems faster than my Samsung laser for one-off output. The black text printing is very quick for an inkjet. Posting scores and Team sheets should go rather quick. I do not plan to do color photos because I have less-expensive options. Size is about 12" x 7" x 2" thick -- perfect for packing away. Now I have EVERYTHING in one carry bag -- nothing to think about or lose. It does grab several sheets at one time every once in awhile. I can live with it if it doesn't become persistent. I just purchased the LK-51 Battery Supply to be truly transportable -- works 6 hours on one charge with the included Lith-Ion Battery. Printer needs USB Male A / Male B Cable -- order online very inexpensively (don't buy at local stores -- $22 or $30 is a rip-off for these; you can get them as cheap as $2 at CyberGuys.com).

The canon i80 is a good portable printer-not a replacement for a good workgroup printer or photo printer. I've had it for around 2 months now and put it through lots of use. In general, the quality is fairly good-monochrome printing is almost up to par with lasers. Color graphics are pretty decent-but remember that this is not a dedicated photo printer Speed is a bit slow-somewhat slower than advertised, but acceptable. It does tend to use lots of ink, and the ink cartridges are fairly expensive, though you do get 2 of them per pack. On the good side, the ink cartridges are easily refillable with any standard kit-but you will need to drill holes on the top after you peel back the label. It only holds around 20-30 sheets of paper and you'll need to fan through them before loading them in the sheet feeder or it will often pull in more than one sheet at a time. It seems pretty durable-I usually carry it with a laptop so it gets lots of travel and there are no alignment problems at all. My only real complaint is that I got it for its bluetooth capability. There is a dedicated bluetooth unit made for this printer, but it's not currently available from Canon or anywhere else I looked. I could get a universal, but that would defeat the purpose of having everything built in. If you're looking for portability, then this is the only way to go. Otherwise, you may be better off with a larger inkjet or a monochrome laser.

Within the first month of owning this camera, complete with the Canon case designed for it, I had to send the camera in for service. I carried my camera in a computer backpack that was well paded, assuming the combination would adequately protect the camera. The 3rd time I used the camera I found the LCD to be cracked and non-functional.I had a similar experience with warranty service that another write up mentioned; problems are always the fault of users and standard $150 charge for repair. I spoke with warranty service and customer repair concerning the matter with a fairly callous response.Nice features and functions but very fragile piece of equipment in my mind.

I love Canon products. I love the zoombrowser software. I LOVED my S200 digital elph. So I upgraded..I bought 2 S500's, and had 3 friends buy one with me, (including my girlfriend). I am embarrased to say, the pics aren't very good. I am a photographer, and have tried every manual feature on this camera to try and improve the pictures. They rarily turn out sharp, and it is very hard NOT to wash the pics out with the flash (even with the pre-flash feature). The 5MP doesn't seem to matter. BTW, turn off the zone focus and go center weighted, the zone focus will drive you nuts picking the wrong subjects. I called canon, and they think I'm wrong, but I'm not. I have defended it to my unhappy friends- but not anymore. E-bay here I come... Anyone know of a good, compact digital camera?

I haven't received an E18 error with an S500, but I did with my prior powershot, and that experience was enough to convince me not to purchase a Canon again until they've fixed this problem - or at least taken responsibility for it. I was able (after months of writing letters and sweet-talking customer service agents) to get it repaired under the warranty, but it's not a process I'd recommend to anyone. I'd had my camera for 6 months and been thrilled with it, and then out of nowhere the E18 message popped up. I simply have no faith in Canon digital cameras anymore (although I just bought an i960 printer and it's fantastic), and would caution anyone considering purchasing one to consider how important your investment is to you. The probability of getting an E18 seems awfully high, and Canon's utter unwillingness to deal with this problem despite years of complaints is too disconcerting to merit the risk.

Like many others, I am constantly worried about having enough battery power while on vacation, and thus, I am always tempted to purchase an extra battery. When it comes to batteries, this one is exception. Extremely light weight and incredibly durable. I took over 200 photos in one day, utilizing my S500's built-in flash indiscriminately. At the end of the day, I still had power left over to spare. But before you decide to purchase an extra battery, you should experiment with the NB-1LH battery that comes with the camera. Purchasing an extra battery may be overkill for your needs. However, if you want an extra battery as a backup, this one is the only way to go. You won't regret it, whereas with an off-brand, you're rolling the dice.

Just upgraded from Canon S100 to Canon S500. Very happy with it. Same steel case and small size... perfect for mobile use. The main reasons I upgraded to the S500 are the 5MP imaging and the ability to capture videos. The newer options for continous shooting mode and video clips are handy. The audio on the video clip came out surprising well and the subject was 50 feet away too. Added a 1 GB CF card for plenty of storage space (video and photos). Picture quality is very good on photos. The *very bright* flash can wash out images in a close up while in darker areas (not in sun light), so I usually turn off the flash and the photos come out fine.New camera software (ZoomBrowser) works better than the older version that came with the S100 ... I make my edits in PhotoShop. Slick package.Five stars for value in a small, durable package. Glad I upgraded.

I would recommend this printer to anyone who is looking for the convenience of having a good quality printer for trips when there is a need to work in a hotel room. The printer is small and compact and actually performs better than expected; it prints remarkable fast. The only challenge I find is periodically more than one piece of paper comes through the printer at the same time.

A few months after I bought this camera, the compact flash door broke from normal use. I sent it in to get serviced and Canon has some very crazy policies about warranty work. They say that the CF door is ALWAYS the user's fault and costs $150.00 to fix. They also refuse to do any repairs unless you get EVERYTHING that they find wrong fixed. There was some kind of scuff on the lens housing and they wouldn't fix the CF door unless I got that fixed as well (which they of course classified as "Impact Damage" and you're back to paying the minimum service fee of $150.00).Don't buy Canon products unless you keep them in a sealed container and never use them, because if they break, you're out of luck.

I print on the go all the time, and sometimes, at conferences and events, it's been more than a lifesaver. Printing good photos on the go seemed a natural addition.Problems with this printer include: need really good quality paper for decent prints (consistent with Canon printers in my experience); Canon's warranty is lousy (and they have screwed me before with products that broke a couple months after warranty expired); photo quality is less than a dedicated 6- or 8-ink desktop printer; expensive inks.Primary use: printing at conferences or other public events that keep you away from an office. Kinkos beware--this thing handles most of the jobs that I'd run to a business center to do while on the go. HOWEVER, without buying the extra battery, you're still on the prowl for the power outlets, along with everyone else in the room.Secondary use: traveling, where snapshots of friends can be handed over while still on the go. I tend to travel light, so carrying a printer is a bit nuts, and the inks run out quickly, but sometimes there's no replacement for printing a photo of some new friend and giving them a copy while on the go.Tertiary use: desktop printer. There's cheaper, faster, better alternatives for this use though--but it does fine as a backup (or when I want to print from a room without a printer without getting up).

The Good:Great pictures. Nice size. Average battery life. Loved the panorama mode. This was the best camera I owned ... until "E18" appeared on its LCD screen. The Bad:The E18 Error. I treated this camera with great care. I knew of the E18 problem from other reviews. I avoided everything that might trigger it. It happened anyway. At first sporadically, now E18 happens evertime I turn the camera on. Within 4 months of purchase, my S500 has become unusable. Many people encounter the E18 problem with other Canon cameras - not just the Canon S500.Comments:I've owned five digital cameras since 1996. All continue to work with the exception of the Canon S500. I have shipped software that works with digital cameras. I know very well how reliable digital cameras are supposed to be. It would be ridiculous for me to claim that every Canon S500 will eventually get this problem. But, based on some simple searching, you'll soon see that something is amiss in Canon's engineering process. I can not recommend any Canon point-and-shoot camera until Canon acknowledges and addresses this problem.

The top end of the S digital Elph series camera is now the s500. It is a great, reliable camera with excellent performance, especially compared with my old 230.Pro: Light, easy to use, has advanced feeatures if you are advanced, and reliable, decent battery life, and well recognized camera.Con: They still never have figured out the problems with the movie/manual settings/movie being so close together. Also the Shoot/play toggle is frequently found in the wrong position. Not smart enough to take nightime pictures and still see any lights. Still sluggish on startup. And the software? I never installed mine, and pitched the disc. I believe in iPhoto. However, I found ... uh ... movies stay on the camera unless you have the software. That would be nice. But they only let you download the update version. *Shrug* Guess its my fault. Now how do I fix it?

i was looking for a photo printer that takes the memory stick directly with a price less than $100. Using Amazon's reviews i located a similar Canon printer (there were no reviews of this model yet) and, based on price, selected the i475D. WOW! The prints are great, which is the first consideration for me. Crisp, clean, true in color, in short, everything i hoped for when i decided to start doing my own prints. Yesterday i printed six 8x10s and two dozen 4x6s and the ink gauge shows that i still have half a tank. All these photos are from my digital camera, yet there is no way that i can tell that they didn't come from my beloved Canon SLR, and i am VERY picky. i also printed an 8x10 b&w from a scan, and this printer corrected flaws that my other printer simply couldn't. The software and documentation are first-rate. There are two manuals, one a quick-and-dirty and the other more detailed, and they complement each other. The printer software is intuitive and easy, and it dovetails seamlessly with my favorite viewer, IrfanView. And there is plenty of capacity for playing with the settings to get specific effects if that's something a person is interested in doing. The convenience of printing precisely which shots and the number i need is well worth the rather minimal cost of getting set up with a photo printer, especially considering the time that i don't spend fooling around with making reprints at the photo store. i recently took candids at a wedding and used this printer to make sets of prints especially for each set of friends without all the bother of getting the film developed, selecting the prints and quantities, then trekking to the shop for reprints. i'm moved to write this review because of all the times i've been burned with electronic equipment and because of all the assistance i've gotten from Amazon product reviews. This is one product that has everything i expected and a good deal more. i'm going to be happy with this printer for a very long time.

Well, it's been over 3 years since I had it and I love it!!! It's just awesome! It's tiny, the battery life is great, the pictures are wonderful, LOTS of features. The ONLY thing is when you're using flash, it's a little slow. I was impressed with Canon and purchased a bigger SLR Digital Rebel for my "big projects" :) But the little Elph is still my #1 point and shoot!

DON'T BUY IT!!! buy a better quality canon so you can still enjoy cheap ink cartridges with a lasting printer. i just don't have time to deal with computer components that decide to die in the middle of massive projects or papers...

This is an awesome printer! I purchased this because of the high reviews on this site in hopes that everyone knew what they were talking about:)It prints quickly with high quality results. I currently only have it hooked up to a digital camera (not PC) for the very purpose of using it for photo shoots. If you are one to worry about weight, this printer is not the best option because it is bulky and a bit heavy.Although you may use any PictBridge compatible printer, I purchased this with the Olympus D540 3.2 (purchased on this site). The both are compatible and lower in cost. I paid under $400 for the pair so check out the Olympus D540 if you're wanting to get a a quality set (printer and camera).

Quite a good printer for the price Only problem is as another reviewer pointed out below, it uses the BCI-24 print head, which isn't as available as the more popular BCI-21. But it can be purchased from around ?45 if you Google for it. Cartridges are quite small, but relatively inexpensive.Great printer for the money. Works like a charm. User it at least once a week so the head doesn't dry up and it'll be fine.
