The main reason I purchased this printer was because of its batch feed capabilities for scannin and faxing. The feature works well but the software interface is not the best.The ink cartridges need replacing alot faster then any of the previous HPs that I have owned.Print quality is fine.Overall I am satisfied but if I had the choice I would go back to HP.

I had been using a Canon S520 for a few years to print color labels. There are several great features to the S520. One was the ease of repair. There are places on the web that solve many of this printer's maintenance issues. This allowed me to maximize our investment on the printer. I was able to keep it going well past its normal life. Eventually, could take no more.Enter the iP6700D.It's very quiet and has great image quality, even at the lower settings. But this one is a serious ink hog. It uses 35% more ink than the S520 on the exact same labels that we have always printed. The worst part is aftermarket (or third party) ink tanks require you to remove a small circuit chip on the front of the OEM ink tank. The process requires a razor knife, double sided tape and a lot of patience. Instead of just popping in an aftermarket tank, you have to perform surgery on the old one first. The process takes about 10 minutes once you have mastered it. But, the Canon printer some how writes to the chip when the OEM ink runs out and tells it that the tanks is depleted. When you transfer the circuit chip to the new tank, the printer informs you that it knows you are swapping the chips for the sake of using aftermarket ink and warns you that you are voiding the warranty. Big brother is in my printer!Of course, the easy way to get around this issue is to use OEM ink tanks, but they range in price from $14 to $19 each. And again, they still print 35% less pages than the good-old fashion S520 tanks. Aftermarket tanks are only $4 to $5 each. You can imagine that there is a buck or two of profit in the non-OEM tanks so imagine what the profit is on the Canon ink. It's insane!We all know that printer manufacturers make their money on the ink, not the printer. But sheesh, this kind of robbery is uncalled for. It's a shame that Canon would be so greedy.If you buy this printer, be preparing for monstrous printing costs or aftermarket ink tank surgery.

We had this printer for about 3 years. When it is working well, it works well. On the other hand, a small amount of dust in the printer caused horrible smudging and ruined photos. Impossible to clean. No instructions for cleaning the inside of the printer to stop smudging. I managed to wipe some out with my finger the first time, but that didn't last long as now it is doing it again and I can't see anything in there (yes we close the covers on a regular basis), so must be something stuck on the print head itself. No way to get under there. Also we have had to constantly realign this thing for some reason, and visible lines were a problem. We aren't computer experts, just regular people who want to print at home without problems. This printer has too many issues. Also it takes a long time to get going when you are waiting to print something and is very noisy.

I travel 40 to 45 weeks a year and of the six portable printers that I have carried with me over the past 20+ years, this is my favorite. It is the fastest and has the sharpest print. The drivers loaded effortlessly. I have the bluetooth adapter and the battery pack. I use this printer with a Toshiba Satelite laptop and everything worked perfectly from the start. Unlike numerous comments that I have read, I am quite pleased with the amount of printing that can get from the small ink cartridtes. I refill my own printer cartridges, which makes my cost about $.50 per black cartridge reill. I have only refilled my color cartridge once and estimate the cost to refill it at about $1.00. It only takes about a five minutes to have the cartridge refilled and back in the printer and have my ink back in my audit bag. I do not print photos but the color on my reports and schedules is very sharp and crisp and adds significantly to their impact. I highly recommend this printer for anyone who wants to carry a printer when they travel.

I purchased this printer about a year and a half ago. it worked well for a while. after year my printer started making these grinding sounds after it finished a printing job. I was much happier with my old HP that lasted me five years (I only had to get rid of it when HP stopped supporting it).

I usually don't write reviews, especially on products that are mediocre. But this is an exception, because this printer is anything but mediocre in almost every sense.My old printer was a Dell (it came free with my laptop, and costs around $30 on places like ebay, so it's obviously cheap). This old printer constantly jammed and had only one function: print plain paper. Forget that, the ink (black) cost $30 to replace. I couldn't believe my eyes! $30 for a $30 dollar printer? I though to myself, I've got three options: buy the darn ink, buy the printer again that comes with the ink included for the same price, get a newer better printer.And so I got the newer, better, pixma 6000d. I'm a small business owner and this is exactly what I need. The dual output system (1 cassette, and 1 normal feed), is absolutely critical for me, as I no longer have to switch paper depending on what I need to print. I now keep the normal printer paper in the cassette, and the labels in the feed switch. No more switching, no more time wasting, no more stress. All I have to do is push a button, and the switch is made for me.THE INK. Here's the best part. I was stupid enough to buy 10 generic ink cartridges for $1.5 each. I thought, well, if they're that cheap, this printer will use them up real quick, even the one's that came with the printer (non-generic). Well, now I regret wasting those fifteen bucks (smirk). After printing hundreds of pages, labels, and even close to 150 photos, I BARELY MADE A DENT in the ink cartridges. I can't believe it! This is a time and cost saver all in one. It's perfect for a small/home business.In addition, the printer is fast, almost never jams (and if it does it's b/c it's my fault), and has a spiffy LCD screed which is really useless for anything but direct (card to printer) photo printing.The photo editing software that comes with this printer is all right. If you're buying this printer to get good photos, get some other software to do editing. Otherwise, the printer is all right when it comes to photos. It's nothing like the prints you'll get at your local photo store, but it's good enough for me. OR, maybe (it's true) I haven't fiddled around with the software and printer settings right in order to get good photos, or maybe the photo paper I use is wrong, in any case go read another review that deals with the photo aspect to get a better sense of it.But from a home business standpoint, this printer is really great, a 5 out of 5, 10 out of 10, you name it.

This printer has some really great functions. The print quality is amazing for both photos and documents. I have hundreds of 35mm negatives that I am transferring to digital. It is a slow process, but now I can quickly go through my photos and fix red eye, white balance, convert color photos to black and white, etc. It does duplex printing (double-sided like a professional copy machine). I even changed the noise level of the printer to quiet mode from 10pm-8am so I don't wake/keep up my wife. It took about 30 minutes to set up and align the printer. I had a 5 year old HP PSC 750 and the scanner and copier functions finally died. The PIXMA MP810 takes a bit more reading, but that is because there are much more options and things that this printer can do. I have had it for only 4 days and have no regrets!

Beware, although this is a great printer, the box doesn't contain the cable required to connect the printer to a PC. And the product description doesn't make it clear that the cable isn't included, nor does Amazon list the cable as being a product most people purchase with this printer.So imagine my surprise as I tried to set up this printer at my vacation home, only to learn from Canon support that I needed to drive to a store to purchase the required cable.Otherwise, great printer.

I bought this all in one to replace my aging HP Desk Jet 970cse printer and HP Scanjet 6200C scanner, both of which were excellent, but both of which were beginning to be pretty iffy, functionally.It looks nice, and while quite large, closes up into a nice looking package when not being used...Scan quality is about 7 on a scale of 10 compared to the HP unit, but it's slide scanning capability is FAR better... So while it was a little disappointing for general scan quality and high resolution detail, its still quite a nice unit for the money...Similar situation comparing it's printing capability to the HP model it replaced... It's plain paper prints look quite nice, whether they're of printed matter, or prints of high resolution images, either from a camera or from the scanner... But the color images, for whatever reason, when printed on glossy paper are MUCH darker... I think I need to do some more homework on this, regarding performance with different glossy papers, and the capability to calibrate the printer to my flat-panel LCD display (or vice-versa).Still, overall, the Canon is an excellent printer/scanner for the money...It is almost worth the price just for the far better slide scanning capability, compared to the HP, even though the HP delivers better overall results (though it had begun to develop problems, which led to my replacing it - same with the HP scanner; excellent high resolution scans, but intermittent functionality had set in).

I previously had the Canon i70 printer for about 4 years and loved it. When it finally bit the dust, I got the successor: Canon i90v. They are amazingly small for the quality print jobs. Travel well too!

I just purchased this printer based on all the glowing reviews I have read and I have to say I don't know what everyone likes about this model. I was interested in this particular printer since it had the ability to scan slides and film so possibly I could eliminate my separate film/slide scanner. Well I never got the opportunity to try anything with this printer because the automatic sheet feeder would not work and I had to return the printer. I chose not to get a replacement printer for the following reasons:1) Printer was much more difficult to set up than previous Canon and HP printers I have owned.2) Printer has so many moving parts that appeared to be cheaply made and most likely break after minimal usage.3) Access to the print head and ink cartridges is very awkward because the top only lifts about half way.4) Printer made so many clanking and grinding noises that it sounded like it wouldn't last a long time. These sounds may have been due to the printer being defective but; I wouldn't want to take that chance.5) The fact that the printer was defective I think is indicative to the complexity and poor quality of this model.I plan on getting a single purpose photo printer and continue to use separate film/slide and document scanners.

I love this machine. It can do everything I need. The only trouble I had was configuring the fax machine to coexist on my voice line. It doesn't know how to distinguish incoming faxes from voice calls, so you gotta either receive faxes manually, or set the machine to auto turn on after your voice mail would - which would still require you to receive faxes manually by turning off your voice answering machine. The Canon MX700 is a great new version of this older machine, and there is a new "priority" mode where you give the priority to either voice or fax calls. I haven't completely investigated how it works, but sounds like an improvement over the MP530. Since there is about a $30 - $50 difference, I would recommend the MX700, but if you don't care about incoming faxes on voice lines that much, and every penny counts, then the MP530 is a great choice.

I just love this printer. I had a dell printer before but it doesnt even come close to this product. There is so much that this printer could do. It has 2 ways that it could take paper from like a tray on the bottom and from the back. This makes this save space and not have to worry that there has to be space in the back for the paper. Another way this printer saves space is that you dont even need to open the printing door until you need to printer or just let it open by itslef when it prints. The quality of the prints is also phenomenal. With all the nozzles that the video shows it has, it really makes prints great.

I can't change my initial star rating but this is a 1-star not a 4-star review.When it prints the images are amazing. The photos are bright and clear, the prints never smudge, the fax stinks. The fax was a problem from the start and I wish I had purchased an all-in-one minus the fax because no one really faxes anymore. The fax option just didn't work right, whether I used a 1 first or not, I couldn't get it to fax. The scan works great unless you are get the "low ink" message and then you can't scan even if you have ink, why having ink to scan something is still beyond me. What really makes this an awful printer is the cost of the ink. I thought going from a Dell ($90 ink replacement) to $50 for ink replacement was a better choice until you realize how much ink the printer uses up in a short period of time. If I'm printing, scanning and copying a lot in the month I can end up paying $100-$150 in ink replacement. I can't even let my kids print so they won't use up the ink. I thought since I was paying a little more for a printer that Canon would be better quality and to an extent it is but the cost to maintain this printer ruins the quality it produces.

I did not have to buy an add-on feature to use the duplex or two-sidedprinting as I would have if I had purchased for $80 more the competingHP D7360 printer. Also the Pixma holds more ink in each cartridge and forabout $4.10 more per cartridge than the HP you get close to 50% more inkin the Canon Pixma printer cartridge. At Staples the HP printercartridges were $9.99 and the Canon $14.09.The HP does have a touch screen which has more features than the 6700Dsuch as ink levels, whereas with the 6700D one has to go into thesoftware on the system it is attached to get the ink levels. And HP'stouch screen does more printing functions from the printer than theCanon's non-touch screen display such as red-eye removal right from theHP's touch screen. Other wise the Canon has the edge on better resolutionHP=4800x1200 versus Canon's 9600x2400. One can print from most cameras'memory sticks directly to either printerI picked Canon over the HP because of higher resolution, higher inkjetcartridge capacity, and Canon's built in duplex (two sided) printing. Itwas important for me that I can use this printer for more than photos butalso for regular printing tasks. Also I plan on purchasing a Canon Cameraand my perception is that it would be more compatible with a Canonprinter.The price for the HP with the two sided printer option would have beenabout $249 versus the Canon at $169. Because I also signed on to get theAmazon/Chase credit card I was able to purchase the Canon for a total of$132. The list price on both printers is $199 and an additional $80 forthe HP two-sided option. Otherwise you can expect to pay around $169street price for each but there is not much discount for the HP two sidedoption at $80 part number Q5582A.Make sure you go to a store such as Staples and take a hands on look atwhatever printer your looking to purchase. And especially look at thecost of the ink. Canon in my opinion is the "Best Buy".

I purchased the Canon MP530 and have had very good results so far. All the bad reviews about the ink cartridges are by people who gave up on the printer without a simple Google search to fix the problems. You can disable the Print Monitor all together so that the printer will work no matter how low the ink levels are. This is helpful when you refill the ink cartridges yourself, as I have done. Canon would love you buy their tanks every time they go low, but you can refill them yourself; but you must turn off the print monitor because the printer thinks it's tanks are empty even though you've refilled them.Do it this way: 1) go to "maintenance" tab on print properties 2) select "View Printer Status" from the bottom 3) Click "Option" and deselect "Enable Status Monitor" -- That Simple!A minor annoyance that doesn't warrant a one-star rating from other users. I really like this printer!

Bought two of these from Amazon and setup the first one ok.Then thought i should try out the second one just in case it didnt work while still under warranty. I didn't want to waste the two ink tanks as i was only going to make sure it printed ok then put it back in the box. So i took out the cartridges from the first one to try in the second one and got an error message that the ink was empty. I then tried to put the orginal cartridges back in the original printer and again wouldnt work, Had to call canon and found out you cant take out a cartridge or try and refill it as it will reset itself and not work. Canon rep had me use the other two cartridges from the second printer and finally it worked ok. Canon is sending me out two new cartridges but i am not happy with canon anymore if i cant refill as they are very expensive and dont hold much ink anymore. NO MORE CANONS OR MAYBE ANY OTHER PRINTERS.

I got this to replace an Epson printer that I had for 3 years that blew a print head gasket and would have cost half the price of a new printer to repair. I had a Cannon before that one, so after reviews, gave this model a try and am so far very pleased. I've had it now for several months with moderate use and no problems. Print quality seems excellent and ink lasts pretty good as well. Note this model has the separate color cartidges which keeps ink costs down. Scans and copies have all proven as good as I got from the Epson.

At first, this printer seemed alright. Beside the fact that it cannot do wireless printing, it was decent for what it did do. But, when my wife began to need to print out Powerpoint slides for her class notes, the demon within showed itself. If you want to print four slides to a page, you had better hit print right after you set it to do so. If not, if you make changes to a different setting, then you are likely to get one slide per page. Or, if you are trying to print in black and white, you better make sure you find both places that you have to specify grayscale or you will be wasting more color ink than you intended. Most frustrating, however, is that when you know for a fact that you told the printer to print only odd pages and, lo and behold, it is printing every single page--on the backs of the even pages that you just printed!! This printer is not recomended. Go with the comparable HP multifunction and spare yourself the exorcisms.

So far, I'm delighted with this little machine. I hook it up and it's ready to print. I'm still working with the scanning. I don't have a land line, so I haven't tested fax capabilities. But, so far, printing and copying have been fine. Set up was extremely easy.

I recently ordered this printer and had a nightmare experience trying to get it to print wirelessly on my Mac using an Airport Express and an Airport Extreme base station (I use both in my network). After struggling for 4 hours I discovered via a discussion forum that this printer will not work wirelessly on an Airport network...no mention made by Canon anywhere about that!!! There are other drivers out there written to try to compensate for this lack on the provided and downloaded Canon drivers but they don't do the job. If you plan to use this printer on a wireless Airport network save yourself the pain.

I purchased this printer a couple of months ago and I am very pleased with its performance. Printing is crisp and clear; the fax is very easy to use and set-up was a breeze. Scanning is also easy and very fast. I haven't printed photos yet but cannot imagine the images to be anything but great. This was a replacement for a previous Canon purchased a couple of years ago which I also liked. This one cost the same amount of money but is far superior to it. It is quieter and faster. So far, I have not replaced any ink cartridges; we print maybe a couple of times a week, not much, but it doesn't seem to be using any more ink than the previous Canon we owned. I would definitely recommend this multi-function printer to anyone. Why 4 stars vs 5? Somewhat slow when you first turn it on but still an improvement over what I had before.

Have used HP1100 for years. Printer was six years old and began having problems with color photo printing. Colors were untrue to what I was use to having. Did much research on the MP810 and decided this was the way to go. Glad I did. All the hype that was in the reviews I read was true. Setup was pretty straight forward although the manual kept you going back and forth between pages to get the printer properly loaded and ready. Could be printed so theres less page hunting involved. Had to contact support....got to a 'human' in 40 seconds!! Great job Canon. The man in support was Mike who was very knowledgeable and helpful. He even helped with a program which was not printing the docs just right and solved the problem for me. I wish that Amazon would offer an extended warranty on this product as I have to contack Canon again to procure one $(95.00) for two years.

For me this printer replaced the Canon i950.I figured the latest iP6700D at $149 would match that of the $400 (at the time) i950 6tank printer. The i950 ink waste tray finally filled up, thus needing repair (holds about 9ink tanks worth of wasted ink). NOTE: every time you turn on Canon printers it uses a little ink from each tank to clean the head, thus wasting ink from EACH tank. Printing in bulk really helps with putting the ink on paper rather than to the waste tray! To think I almost sank another $400+ for the Pro9000 8tank, more tanks don't save money, unless you print all at once!! I can't stress this tidbit enough, really!This iP6700D is far better at reproducing yellows and browns. I was worried about reviews of the excessive red tones. I found the red is not as red as the i950, it's more an orange/red. It is absolutly too red for flesh tones when first observed from the printer. But waiting 10-15min for the ink to dry really tones down the red, it eventually settles down to having a slight orange cast on skin tones. MUST wait for the ink to dry... Oddly enough printing with Easyphoto print and using the vivid option produced the best flesh tones, no orange/red casting. I gave up on Adobe CS2 printing, colors never looked correct even when using the ip6700 built in ICC profiles. Now only using Easyphoto print with Vivid mode. ColorVision Spyder2 was used to ensure the monitor was calibrated both for the i950 and ip6700.I also wanted to use direct printing with a Canon 30D. What a snap in the rare event the photos don't need touch up. Just make sure PhotoOptimizer is turned off on the printer (defaults to ON).In hindsight it was good thing the i950 lifespan expired. $149 on the ip6700 buys a more color accurate printer than $400 did 3years ago on the i950.

After less than a year started making a noise like a jackhammer everytime I printed or copied or got a fax (including spam). Eats ink like crazy, including color ink for grayscale printing. Worked fine for 10 months and still faxes and scans fine. Prints alright as well, just super noisy and goes through ink really fast. Unlike the HP equivalent, has a document feeder, which works great. Just know it won't last you that long.UPDATE MAY 2008 -- The automatic document feeder has now died. Time to replace this. Toyed with getting a monochrome laser all-in-one but at least the Pixma ink cartridges work in other Pixma models, so am trying an upgrade and praying it's sturdier than this one was.

It finally gave up after 5 years. It stopped feeding paper from the paper tray. I liked the cheap ink refills. I'll look for another Cannon that uses the same ink. BCI 24. BTW, I have a family of four and only one computer. This printer has been used a lot!

This AIO printer has met every one of my expectations. It is a dream machine. Can't complain about a thing. I was a little hesitatant about buying it because of the looks, really wanted to go with the MP800, but the scanner specs weren't as good, so I went with this one. When you get it out of the box and set up, this printer is pretty cool looking. Sure, it's a little "square", but you'll fall in love with the features and functionality. It's got many hidden features and it's well designed. FYI-this is a heavy printer, and it's not on the small end either. Well worth every penny. Also, I have printed several pictures and black and white documents and the ink level on all the of the cartidges is still right up to the top. On my old HP (which I was quite happy with and still haven't parted with), my ink levels would down to about half by now.

My Canon S520 gave up the ghost in Mid-February 2007; fortunately I was able to purchase the MP530 (because of its great reviews. Everything works, though I haven't yet used the fax. Generally the copier and scanner seem particularly slow to me, compared with the heavy-duty office machines I am accustomed to. Also, in some black and white print jobs the printing seems slow, compared to the S520. This may be because my computer is a Latitude C610, with USB 1.1 rather than USB 2.0 on board.I began using the MP530 with the inks that shipped with the printer. It is now late March, 2007, and I have used up the black PGI 5-BK ink. The major printing load has been two sets of academic papers for two sessions of a seminar, at about 280 pages reduced to 140 pages of print, each seminar session. The printing is dense (like the texts). Still, I did not expect to run out of regular black ink in one month. That's 140 + 140 plus maybe 70 other pages, for 350 pages, instead of the 650 pages (at 5% coverage) that Canon promises for its ink.That was the bad news. The good news is that although I started getting the ink-out signal (works just like my Canon S520) at the beginning of tonight's run of 140 pages of print, the ink lasted to within the last four pages of the last article, and then permitted pressing the OK button to continue printing to the end. Phew!Also good news. The Canon printer does a really good job on these reduced xeroxed, and sometimes xeroxes of xeroxes, pages, so they are at least readable.Also, Amazon has a DEAL on the black ink, and Amazon Prime will get it to me quickly.

On a whim, I printed images in sizes from 4x6 to 11x14 at a professional lab. The images were amazing.Next, I took the same images (JPG format) and printed them on the iP6700D in sizes from 4x6 to 8.5x11.The images were very similar. I displayed the images and asked some people to comment on the images. I noticed very slight shade variations that were only noticeable in side by side comparisons in a few instances. For example, the light blue sky was very slightly darker from the professional lab. These slight color variations are expected since I did not use an ICC profile.One person commented that "I feel silly, these are so close and they both look excellent". Most people (untrained) were not able to find any differences in the images unless they were pointed out.Be warned, that the Canon ink for this printer uses dye, not pigments (Epson printers use pigments). You must use an appropriate paper. The expectation is that Canon paper will produce the best results, especially if you do not use an appropriate ICC that is created for the paper and printer. That said, I have used other paper with excellent results, and numerous professionals routinely use other papers with excellent results. On the other hand, before you complain that your images look horrible, try the Canon paper.Also, do not use non-Canon ink and then complain about the colors. Again, many people are very pleased with the results, but many more are not. Non-Canon inks are also much more likely to have problems with fading.I like the printer because I produce amazing images directly from my camera with zero post processing. I do not even need to connect the printer to a computer, I simply drop the memory card into the printer. Sure, with certain photos, it is not possible to obtain the correct color cast without post-processing, but no printer will without manual intervention (a picture taken in yellow light, turns the whites yellow).

When I first got this machine and saw the print quality I loved it and still love the print quality and the quality from the copier. The thing that is a downer for me is it hasn't been reliable. The vertical paper feed doesn't work well and paper gets jammed all the time. I even had a piece of intricately cut foam come out of the machine from somewhere. I don't use the machine heavily so it is a bit disappointing. I got in touch with customer service and I have to take the machine to Boston area to get fixed which is really a pain. I don't know if the more expensive model is more reliable but suggest if you use the machine a lot to check the reviews out there. Maybe I will contact amazon and see if I can get a replacement or the more expensive version of the machine. If the problem of the paper feed and reliability can be fixed I would give this 5 stars in a heartbeat.Update. I called the company and they sent me a refurbished printer and it arrived in a few days and works great. I sent the other printer back and the shipping was prepaid. It was a lot better than driving into Boston. I will see how long this lasts but the company response was good.

I maybe printed 4 documents within a month and the yellow ink cartridge malfunctioned. Now I have to spend the time with tech support to figure out how to fix it. I really think any ink-jet printer under $150 are designed to breakdown within a year. What a racket!!!

I purchased the Canon MP530 about a month ago for a small home business. Thus far I'm very happy with the all-in-one. It prints quickly, has a fairly small footprint, and haven't had any problems as of yet that are probably the printer's fault. I haven't figured out how to scan as of yet but that' probably just operator headspace. I would purchase this printer again.I had an MP780 before and this fits right in the same mold except this printer's ink is a little more expensive. I do believe that overall ink cost for this model can still be less per page than most other printers.

We have owned the printer for a few months. It copies great, scans great, prints great. No problems! Used to have an Epson C88+, this Canon is a better printer by far. Ink is a little more expensive but this Canon has better print quality as far as I can tell. Easy to operate.

I really like this printer, my first non-HP in a long while. I researched an insane amount on CNet, Amazon and other sites. I haven't tested out the fax capabilities yet, but it does everything else well. My favorite feature is when I scan old photographs, I can do several at once and it knows to create separate image files for each, saving me time. I've printed a few digital photos. Photo quality is slightly grainy, but I need to play around with the settings to see if I can improve that. It's definitely better on Canon paper, however. Print/copy quality and speed is fantastic. If you are looking for a solid all-in-one, I'd highly recommend this.

After reading some criticism of this device I took the chance and ordered one for my home office. I couldn't be more pleased. While the setup was at times less than intuitive the functions could be determined with little reference to the manual. The printing is clear and sharp, the scans and faxes, both black and color, are high quality, and the copy function and document feeder work fast and well. I'm not sure that there is a better MFD at this price point even if you ignore this unit's photo printing capabilities which I haven't tried yet.

Being an illustration major and having never owned a printer, I recently became in desperate need of one and set out looking for the best value and quality. After lots of research, I settled upon the MP530. Following the 'scarcity' comments of the reviewers below, I too had problems tracking one of these down to see in person, but eventually found one. The build quality of this machine is incredible. Everything pulls and shifts into place with a chunky, satisfying *click*, and all components are very thick (plastic document feeder, front panel, input buttons, etc.). As superficial as it may be, this particular model is also one of the best-looking multifunction devices I happened to see. The pictures do not do justice to how substantial this machine is (it is quite large, though streamlined). It has that 1980's, 'boxy' appeal while being contemporary at the same time. Aside from superficial observations, I was admittedly naive as to what an ADF (Automatic Docment Feeder) was prior to purchasing this machine. On the MP530, you can actually stack a sheet of documents, such as a term paper, on the ADF tray and the machine will begin an automated process of scanning (or copying, if you choose) the documents without the user having to do anything. Also, you are able to fill the bottom cassette tray with paper, while keeping the auto-sheet feeder full of another type (or additional of the same type) of paper. I've filled the cassette with 4x6" glossy photo plus paper (5 sheets are included with the printer) for printing photos, while keeping regular 8.5x11" paper in the auto-sheet feeder. I've tested the color quality (monochrome is practically laser quality, though the blacks are never as rich as the toner used in laser printing - very sharp text) on some fairly high quality, medium dpi photographs, and it is as good as lab quality. I will only be getting negatives developed from now on! The scanner is CIS-based, which is obviously inferior to CCD, so I will use my Epson 4490 for serious archiving and scanning jobs. Also, the printer requires a USB printer cable, which is NOT included. With these things in mind, I couldn't be happier with this machine.

This printer is our second all-in-one made by canon. Our first all-in-one was the canon F80. It served us well for 5 years.We recently purchased the MP530 and are extremely happy with it. This machine does a great job printing, copying, faxing and scanning. A great all-in-one. This printer also does an excellent job printing photos on photo paper. We do have a designated photo printer...Canon Pixma iP6600D...on which I print our photos. But, the MP 530 does nearly as nice of a job!I have called Canon tech support because I had a slight problem with scanning. Tech support was VERY helpful and we resolved my problem. The problem wasn't with the scanner, it was that I had 2 USB cords connected together to reach the MP530, therefore the scanner wasn't getting enough power to scan with. While on the phone with tech support, I reconnected with only one cord and the problem was fixed. So, it was my problem, not the printers.More good news...in the 11 years that I have owned Canon printers, I only had to call tech support once!!!I've always loved Canon printers. My first printer was a canon back about 11 years ago and it is still working for my mom.In summary....GREAT JOB, CANON FOR ANOTHER FINE PRODUCT!

I have had 4 photo printers over the last 6 years. I have spent over $250 on each of them when the last one finally died. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on another one since we go through them so quickly. I honestly wasn't expecting much due to the cheap price. I was so wrong! I love this printer! Honestly it has better quality than any of our other printers we have owned. It prints so quickly too! I have no issues as far as noise goes either, it is very quiet. The ink cartridges seem to last a long time too! I convinced my husband we would get it because it was cheaper than buying ink cartridges and we would just sell it when they ran out and buy a color lazer printer...he's convinced now that we don't need the lazer printer!

I ordered this printer for my daughter and family (3 children) for Christmas - they take a lot of photos of the children and it's great to be able to print them right off the camera. It's small enough to fit and not take up a lot of space. The printer works great - and now I want one too!

While it doesn't have networking capability unless you hook it up to a print server (which somewhat would defeat the purpose), it does perform extremely well in a one-computer setting. Quality prints: color and B/W. Quality scanned images. Reliable fax machine and photocopier. Prints legal paper. Ink refills seem expensive, but then again, I have not had to refill it yet. Aesthetically, I think it looks better than most of its competition and the price I paid on Amazon was the lowest I could find. Very satisfied after 3 months!

My setup is 2 home-built PC desktops on a wireless network. The Canon software was very easy to install and it was also easy to find the printer on my network -- there was little "bloatware" from the install & I found the directions to be very clear. My previous printer was an HP 970 -- I have always been a fan of HP printers but this printer started to leak ink and had to be replaced. I decided to try the Canon based on (1) oustanding reviews of photo print quality and (2) the ability to independently replace ink colors. Photo prints from this printer can be outstanding, but only if you use matched paper and ink. For example, HP glossy photo paper produced very unattractive images while Canon glossy plus photo paper gives superior results. The ink seems to spread & run together on the HP photo paper.I believe I get better results on this system than using commercial services, especially when one enhances the images using Photoshop or an equivalent. Flesh tones are warm, resolution is superb, colors are saturated -- I find it to be a very pleasing result which very much captures the intent of my Photoshop images.I agree that text printing is just slightly fuzzy, but I would submit the text output from this printer to any university course professor, in my experience, confident of a great outcome. I have noticed that the text sharpens up when one uses a harder finished paper. For example, I obtained better results from Staples Print quality paper (24 lb) than from HP "Bright White."Paper handling has been flawless and I like the ability to load 2 different papers into the printer and select which to use at the time of printing. The duplex function works well -- I've printed a 25 pp document both sides with no issues.This is an idea printer for a home office where there is also a need or desire to produce outstanding photo prints.

I currently own 2 Canon MP530 printers. I've used Canon over 15 years and found them to be very reliable. The first MP530 I purchased in June 07 worked so well that when the time came to get an additional printer I knew exactly what to order. No regrets!

I also had a difficult time finding one of these units to actually see and touch and reviews on this machine are few and far between. I finally found one at Fry's electronics in Fountain Valley.We have been using an HP officejet 6110 and it finally stopped recognizing print cartridges so I decided to look for a new machine. I was not happy with the cost of replacement cartridges for the hp and it goes through them fairly quickly. The Canon uses induvidual ink cartridges and reviews of similar Canon's show one of the lowest printing costs available in an inkjet.I have read the reviews for the mp500 and the mp830. Most people seem to be happy with these machines. I was about to purchase an mp500 when I saw the mp530 on the Canon website. I preferred the 530 because of the fax capability. I believe the 530 uses the same print technology as the 500, and the copy/scanning mechanism is also the same. I use an mp500 at work and the print quality is very good and the scan quality I would rate as good so I ordered the 530.I have been very happy with the quality of the print. As good as the hp6110 or better. The copy quality is good but the colors tend to be a little washed out which is similar to the mp500. I am sure an adjustment in the printer settings would help with the colors. Quality is a little less than that of the hp but it uses a different scanning mechanism and the quality is acceptable for our uses. I have yet to use the fax function so I am not able to comment on that feature.I am also very pleased with the looks of the machine. All of the doors and covers close giving the 530 a very sleek look unlike the HP. The output door opens automatically when printing or copying. The print speed is also faster than the 6110.So far I have not had any compatability issues with the Canon. I have this printer connected to an imac G5 and it works very well. Overall I have given a rating of 4 stars. I think it is an excellent value for the price. After my experience with the hp6110 I don't think I will go back to hp. From what I have read Canon's products are generally reliable and that will hopefully be the case with this machine as well.Hope this review helps.
