This printer was purchased to replace the Epson 880 that I had been using for a number of years. I have found the Canon Pixma to be equal in quality and at an affordable price. Sometimes a little slow when starting up but print speed and quality are excellent.

This printer prints great pictures. I use Canon photo gloss paper and the print are as good as you get from the mass market stores. The ink could be cheaper but I always buy it and paper on sales at Staples.

I bought this printer thinking it would be great for printing my edible images. This printer gave me nothing but problems from the beginning. It prints black streaks at the beginning of my prints, constantly clogs, doesn't read my cartridges, colors were really off at first (that problem seemed to fix it self). The list just goes on and on I find my self trouble shooting for at least 30mins before I can print something. I have used up tons of ink doing self cleaning and test prints. I am retiring this printer after only 2 months and buying a different one.

Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All-in-One Inkjet Printer (4894B002) -I have a Dell PC with an Acer Monitor and I'm running Vista 32 premium networked via hard-wired ethernet. I received this printer the next day after I ordered it for starters and when I received it I was surprised by both its size and weight in a very positive way. When I opened it, I was even more awestruck. For $150 dollars, this is quite the printer. While setup takes a bit and the manual is not quite as straight-forward as setting up a Hewlett-Packard, which previously was alway's my printer of choice (and is no more due to poor performance, and basically cheap materials), this printer is well worth the effort of setting up. It is not so cumbersome or difficult if you first read through the instructions before setup and then again while setting it up. I had zero issues. The wireless is nice for when our family is ready to make the wireless transition so that is one of the reasons why I selected this wireless version. But there are so many more reasons I selected this particular all-in-one printer. The price, it's full-duplexing, photo printing, ability to print even if one of the print cartridges is empty, the dots-per-inch 9600 x 2400 maximum color dpi, faxing, and so many, many more all-in-one great features! My whole family has been using this and loves it! My daughter purchased an HP 5700 Plus and it does poor duplexing, and poor print quality and she's returning it for a Canon now. HP just lost 2 loyal customers of over 10 years because they forgot the most important things customers look for in a product. Quality and Price. My fiancee is considering buying one now as well. Canon 3 / HP 0.

This printer works only occasionally. For awhile, I had to uninstall and then reinstall it every time I wanted to print something. It ALWAYS shows as offline even when it is on and the computer detects it in the network. Using all the troubleshooting and online advice does not fix the problem.

I'd had this printer for forever but the wireless connection never works. It can be connected to the network and the computer detects it. But when it comes to printing, the window always says printer is offline. WAste of money.

I am so happy that I decided to switch teams and go with a Canon printer. I have used Hewlett Packer Printers for the last many years since they were affordable and ink was readily available. HOWEVER, while out of town on an extended business trip I found myself in need of a printer, so I wouldn't have to run out to Kinkos or some other copy place.I am a true believer in checking what Amazon.com has to offer before anyone else so I checked their offerings. This Canon Pixma MX420 All-in-One Printer caught my attention. After much research, and believe me, I RESEARCH the heck out of purchases, particularly electronics, I went ahead and purchased it. Now mind you...I had just replaced my old Hewlett Packer printer with a newer HP model that was waiting at home for me, but I NEEDED A PRINTER NOW...not in three months.Bottom Line: Guess what. I liked the Canon so well that I packed it back in it's original box and flew it back to Anchorage with me. My just purchased Hewlett Packer is sitting on a shelf awaiting Craigslist or some other. The features are intuitive, the build is strong, not cheesy plastic for every door and component like HP's,feels solid when I lift the scanner, solid when I lift the auto feed on top, and the same for the paper feed tray.The reason I decided to write a review today, after having it for several months, is that I had to change the ink cartridge. I have NEVER had an easier time changing ink. Just lift the scanner tray base, slide out the ink cartridge, place the new one and I was done. No shifting of the position of the printer or other hassles. This little machine is SOLID! The most solid I've ever used or seen. For the money...this is hands down a better investment than the HP All-in-Ones! Check it out!

I've had this printer sitting in the box for over a year and finally had to use it. My older HP all in one started acting up with crappy drivers again so I decided to just give up on it. I hadn;t used a canon printer in years but I was pleasantly surprised how easy this was to setup for wireless use and didn;t have to deal with any hefty software or glitchy drivers that I've come to enjoy with HP products. I had this printer up and running in under 15 minutes on all of my computers (one desktop and 2 laptops). My router is a Netgear Wireless N and I the printer was able to connect to it with no issues and I was able to find and add it to my computers (all on Win 7) without any hiccups.Printing documents is lightening fast. Pictures print fast as well but I haven;t tried it with photopaper yet. The quality of the pictures on plain paper is great and looks the same, or even better than my HP which had always done a great job with photos.So, glad I had this waiting in the wings and now I can enjoy extra space on my desktop computer area now that I've been able to remove the brick HP which did not have wireless. And now we can print from anywhere in the house!

The two main problems with this printer is that the wifi is not compatible with macs and the ink is a bit expensive. Other than that, on pc's the wifi works great and the photos are awesome. Lots of features and very easy to use.

Howdy all,The concept of this printer is great and when it is operating (likely within the first 60 days of your purchase), you'll be very happy with it's performance. The catch(es) is/are numerous so I will only hit the ones that anger me the most. Not in priority sequence - 1) printer gulps ink, 2) printer won't work on low ink levels, 3) fax won't work on low ink levels, 4) SCANNER WON'T WORK ON LOW INK LEVELS... WTF?, 5) wireless capability failed after first 60 days, 6) for some reason the damn thing decided only my wife's computer can print and only mine can scan (with appropriate ink levels required for scanning of course), 7) updates fail over and over again, 8) updating canon software on the printer itself fails every time for unlisted unexplainable reason.BOTTOM LINE - IF THIS WAS A $20 PRINTER IT WOULD BE.... WELL EVEN THEN IT WOULDN'T BE WORTH IT. IF IT WAS FREE IT WOULD BE WORTH USING UNTIL THE FIRST INK CARTRIDGE IS USED THEN THROW IT OUT!!!YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!Good luck,

After trying several different printers, I have finally found one that satisfies all home printer needs. From small pictures to letter size pages it does the job. The color is bright and clear and the cost of inks is lower than with many other printers. The mechanics may be a little 'clunkier' than some printers but the end result is well worth it. It scans/imports documents, has a one click photo printing feature and lots of materials to help you decorate pages in your scrap books, etc. An all round gem.

I have been using the Canon Pixma MX882 since mid Dec.2011 replacing first ink tank today-15 Sep 2012. One major reason attributing to less than average ink use is never using OEM default printer settings. I religiously check, making sure that CP-MX882 has not switched settings after a brown-out or any kind of power loss to printer. For every day use (other than pictures)always make sure "Print Quality" is set to "Fast". This one tip should give the average user many more hours...if not days or week of increased printing.As an All-in-One pinter I give the Canon Pixma MX882 4 out of 5 stars...as have yet to own an All-in-One printer or an AIO anything that did everything perfect.The Canon MX882 has been a valuable addition to my home network making it an easy recommendation. I've owned an IP6000d for more than 7 years. I've printed thousands and thousands of pages, and hundreds of photos. You can buy really cheap ink on Amazon or the bay-place and other than somewhat small cartridges, I have NO complaints. It even prints on both sides of the paper! What's not to love?

This printer will not print or scan if one of the ink cartridges is low. I have a new black ink cartridge installed but the color cartridge is low on ink, the printer will not scan or even print black and white documents. This printer was designed to not function at all if one of the cartridges is low on ink. This is a really silly design from Canon, I will never buy a product from them anymore.

This printer worked for a few months on very low volume. Then after about 3-5 months, the black printer head started to completely malfunction. I've have yet to figure out how to fix this problem. I've tried cleaning, deep cleaning, new ink cartridges, and even manual cleaning with a rag, but nothing has fixed the problem. I've researched online and didn't find any solutions either. I'd look elsewhere if looking for an affordable printer. I only use the color head now, which is annoying.

This printer is a piece of junk. It started out great, but after only a short time it started giving me trouble. The paper doesn't feed properly and gets jammed every single time, regardless if from the casette feed or rear feed. The scanner is glitchy and slow. Overall this printer now works like something from the 90's. The features on this printer are great,if only they actually worked!!

I love this printer. It has all the functionality I need to run my home business. I make perfume and use this to not only print out regular shipping labels, but also the labels for my perfume bottles. The color and clarity has always been fantastic and I've never had a problem with colors running. Suits my needs.

The printer wouldn't even turn on. Canon tech. on phone couldn't get it to work either; said it's a hardware problem not fixable over the phone. The power and resume lights just flashed alternatively; wouldn't do anything else. Obviously returning.Update: OK; Amazon sent replacement printer; works perfectly, prints from Autocad no problem. 4 stars because the first one didn't work at all.I guess it must be difficult to make a functioning printer because the Epson WF7010 that I returned was a total failure but after one week this Canon works fine.

If you like buying expensive ink cartridges on a regular basis, this is the printer for you. I bought the Canon Pixma MX882 after reading lots of excellent reviews. No doubt about it, it does do nice prints. But the ink cartridges are so small that I am replacing cartridges much faster than on any other printer I've ever had, and I don't do all that much printing. The cartridges are also very expensive compared to comparable printers and the printer uses the color cartridges even if you are only printing a black and white document. Never again.

I bought this printer because my old Pixima died suddenly (after about five years). The main reason I chose this particular printer is you can print on larger, ledger size, paper. The color is great. I like the fact that I can replace individual ink color ink cartridges when one is low. My only complaint, which I find true with many of the ink jet printers I've used over the years, is that first page seems to take forever to start printing. Once it starts, it's quite fast. A great printer for the price.

This is actually a review of a similar model, the Pixma MX 430; the only difference is, it's not wireless.I've been a loyal Canon buyer for years. The printers were formerly quiet, reasonably priced, efficient, and reliable. No more. This product jammed every time I tried to print at 'full photo' setting. It is ridiculously complicated to set up. The instructions for curing the jam (of nearly 12 sheets of standard laser copier paper, that worked well in my old Canon, and sometimes printer here) required me to 'turn the machine on its side and open the panel to remove the pages'. When I did so, part of the top fell off. This three month old printer is now in the trash, and I am buying HP printers/scanners from now on.Canon quality has gone down so badly that I would give this zero stars if it were possible to do so.I am never buying Canon products again.

I purchased this printer based on positive reviews and price. Not overly impressed with it. It does the job and is a great price for 13x19 printing, but I expect a printer to print a document in a few seconds after I click 'print'. This printer takes MINUTES. I hear a lot of commotion inside, which I'm guessing is the print head cleaning cycle. It does this EVERY TIME I use it. I don't use the printer every day, so perhaps more usage could yield better results. The only other complaint I have, as other reviewers also mentioned, is cartridge life. After a 1.5 months of light usage, I'm already being told to replace the black cartridge. I guess the upfront price comes with the long-term cost.

I have been using this printer for a few months now, and I am very pleased. The print quality is very good, both for documents and for photos. The speed is not super fast, but it is acceptable. I usually print from my laptop, so by the time I walk across the house to the printer, the document is finished printing. Photos take a little bit of a longer time.I have used the scanner for documents, and it does a good job. The auto feed feature is especially convenient when scanning multiple pages. Sending a fax is fairly simple, although I have only used that feature twice. The initial wireless setup was straightforward, and I easily got the printer connected to a Windows Vista laptop, as well as a Windows 7 laptop.My only true complaint about this printer is the shiny black plastic that it is made from, because it shows dust easily. A matte finished plastic would have looked so much nicer, in my opinion. The official ink is expensive, just like all name brands of ink are. I personally use generic replacement cartridges, but that does void the warranty.

Several years ago while my wife was in college and suffering through painfully long print times when printing PDFs, I looked around and found the printer with the fastest PDF print speed: a mid range Cannon inkjet. I reluctantly jumped to Canon after owning HPs for years and I've never looked back. I've switched my family over to Canons and everyone agrees: these are just easier printers to use. Except for the high-end professional photo printers, Canons are known for "average" photo quality. Good, but not the best (HP generally wins there). If you are looking for the best picture quality at this price, you probably want to look at an HP. If you are looking for good picture quality but mostly want a reliable, easy to use printer that never jams, read on.The Canon PIXMA MX350 currently (as of 10/14/2010) sits at the top of the 300 series of printers Canon multi-function printers. The 350 shares the same print engine at the 340 but includes a better scanner and faster fax. The 320 has an older and slower version of the print engine found in the 350 and 340. The 320 lacks wireless lan connectivity found in the 350 and 340 (note none of these have Ethernet). The best overall value is the 340, but for the $30 extra dollars the faster fax and better scanner are worth it to me. All of these printers use the Cl-211 black and multi-color cartridges (unlike many Canons these models do not use individual color cartridges).I personally find the print quality for text, graphics, and photos to be very good, but not "the best". The print speed is above average for text and photos.Here are some independently measured print times (Canon's advertised print times are close to this)Text 7.7 pages per minuteCost = 6.5 cents4x6 photo 1.8 minuteCost = $0.558x10 3.2 minutesCost = $1.80The print cost is low, but not the lowest (if you care, Lexmark tends to have the lowest text print cost and Kodak tends to win on color).As mentioned before, the entire MX300 series use two ink cartridges: one black and one combined color. The cartridges are designed so you can't put them in the wrong slot. The black is a very good water resistant, pigment-based ink. The color inks are less expensive dye-based inks.The button lay out is good and it's easy to get started using all the features. The wireless lan setup was pretty easy and the range is very good (better than my laptop). The 350 has the best LCD (backlit) of the 300 series. It also has flash card slots and a 30 sheet document feeder. I've printed hundreds of documents on mine and have never managed to jam it or end up with a double paper feed. This is an easy to use home-office workhorse that I think would satisfy most users. I also happen to have a higher-end MP970 Canon all-in-one and I've done quite a few comparisons. Aside from better photo quality (and inks) and a little more speed I can't find much difference between them. If I was just going to buy one I'd probably go for the MX350 and save some money but if photo quality is very important to you I'd look at a higher end Canon MP series or HP Photosmart. Both rate excellent for photo quality and the higher end models use better inks.

I like the way this printer works. However, Canon regionalises their product - or at least this printer - and the cartridges are not interchangeable. So if this printer is purchased in the UK, as mine was, you cannot buy replacement ink cartridges in the US. So - don't buy this equipment.

do not know why even if i loaded the lower tray with A4 normal paper, I managed to print just one photo over wifi from aperture and just one email from ipad email client...out of 50 attempts....may e defected? in my opinion if doesn t work fine out of the box and like me you have almost zero time...avoid it

Firstly, if you are happy with ink jet quality then this will be a fine printer for your home.Here are my observations.PROS:-It works wirelessly with all your wi-fi PCs. Because it is wireless you can place it anywhere that you have an outlet and wi-fi.-It can print on both sides of the paper-Five individual ink tanks so you save inkCONS:-Ink jet print quality is not good enough for a professional look. If this is for an office I recommend getting a LaserJet printer instead and connecting it to an access point with a USB port.-Five individual ink tanks? Why does it need two different sized black ink tanks? And there is no bundle available with all five.-The duplication printing looks poor as the ink tends to bleed through the paper more than a laser.-Contrary to other reviews, I found the set up was complicated. I.e. I would not expect my parents to do it. Once it is done and working the feeling is great.-It cannot work as both a wired (USB) and wireless printer. My desktop PC was able to find the printer as a network device.-Input paper tray is small for a network printer.-Copying bound material is cumbersome as you need to lift the upper half of the printer to expose the flat copier.-Large foot print. It takes up more space than other multi-function printers I've used.Overall, I would not recommend this printer for an office.UPDATE 2/2/2012In response to some of the comments I must clarify that I was "upgrading" from a Cannon MF5770 multi-function mono-chrome laser printer which originally cost about the same. I thought the wireless networking feature would be a great upgrade. My basis was a laser product thus the comparison. I find that I am saving documents to a flash drive and walking them over to the PC connected to the laser and printing them there. Since all my documents have text, I prefer a gray scale laser picture over the color picture from the Cannon MX882.As for how can five ink cartridges be a pro and a con. Actually four cartridges is a pro. Having a second black cartridge is a waste. A genius would have designed one bigger black cartridge. Also, you cannot buy all five in a bundle.The total cost of ownership of my laser MF5770 is much less than the MX882. One laser cartridge lasts about ten times longer than a set of ink cartridges.In summary, if you have experience with a laser printer Cannon MX882 will be a disappointment.

I've owned it since last fall, and have used it for printing, scanning, and faxing, and it performs pretty good. Quality is good, speed is good, lots of configurability v/v preferences, custom profiles, etc.It does seem to need to be power-cycled every once in a while, when the front buttons stop responding.Big *annoying* thing - sometimes, for no apparent reason, it will go into its "please wait ..." sequence, and it will sit there making noises as the rollers spin and the print heads move around, doing only god knows what. Eventually, it comes back under control. But you can spend a couple of minutes waiting, sometimes. That's the only really negative thing I have to say.It will also nag you about replacing ink cartidges. A dialog pops up, saying you *have* to replace this or that cartridge or cancel the printing. Note, though, that there *is* a third option - just press "OK" on the printer, saying that you take responsibility if the ink runs out in the middle. Really, there is almost always a fair amount of ink left and your job will probably finish okay. Seems like all printers nowadays go through ink at a ridiculous pace.

I've had this thing for just under a year, and I've never owned a more disappointing printer.The new firmware update appears to let it decide when you are out of ink and stop functioning, rather than let the ink just run out. This is the straw that broke the camel's back for me as I got less than 30 pages of b/w text this last cartridge, and to be quite honest, I don't believe that it's out.The wireless setup requires a software installation via cd (not available online for those of you that happen to have hardware without an optical drive), and the included software package leaves you wondering why they even bothered. I may be missing something, but it appears that you can only get a 1200dpi scan if you route it through one of their included applications. The iPad print app only prints photos unless you use a bunch of workarounds to con the thing into printing pdfs, and it isn't AirPrint compatible. Forget about printing photos unless you expect to buy a color ink cartridge every four prints.After my experiences with this product, I won't be buying Canon again. Total waste of resources.

Lots of things I love about this printer: 1. The printer cartridges are separated by color, so you can change out the yellow when you run out of yellow (instead of lots of printers when running out of yellow means you have to change out the whole "color" cartridge.) 2. The print quality is really high. You can honestly print photo quality prints on photo paper here. 3. The way it's set up means you can really use the entire piece of paper - with other printers, if I want an 8.5 x 11 print without any borders, I have to print it on a larger piece of paper and trim it, because the printer can't manage to print all the way to the edges. No problems with that here.Complaints: there are some issues with the printer driver not working right with Mac OS Snow Leopard, but there are instructions online to get around the problem and make it work. Also, there's no "paper catcher" on the output tray to keep your papers from spilling all over the floor on a big print job.But both of those are pretty minor things. This is a classy printer.

The printer was packed in a sturdy box, with ample padding.Out-of-the-Box--------------The printer came with a cd, trial ink cartridges, product literature, and the printer trays...etc, all placed in cardboard fittings/shells. No USB cable provided though, in my opinion it should be an option for those who do not have immediate access to Wi-Fi. So, keep in mind that if you do not have Wi-Fi make sure you have the appropriate USB cable handy, otherwise you'll be making a store run.Pros----1. Awesome price (during time of purchase).2. Auto-duplex printing (Great!)3. Good paper tray design, slides right under the bottom.4. No paper jams yet!5. Well-designed console interface.6. Comes with Scanner/Copier. a. Although the product claims that multiple ink cartridges prevents you from having to buy one single cartridge when an individual color runs out, you receive a warning stating that printing with an empty cartridge can damage the printer. So, if you run out of Magenta, Cyan, or Yellow for instance and want to print in black, you receive the warning. I'm not sure if this actually can damage the printer though.3. No USB cable included.4. Assumption is made that the costumer will always have Wi-Fi available for the initial setup.5. Wi-Fi setup might be a little complicated for individuals unfamiliar with basic home networking concepts.Last Thoughts-------------I have owned this printer for about a year now and I have had no trouble with it. I wish that the print speed was a little faster and the quality of the scanned documents were a little bit better. Disappointed that it did not include automatic duplex printing as described on website (paper must be manually turned over and re-fed for printing on back side). Otherwise a decent printer. A larger footprint on desk than I expected. Have another Canon Pixma all in 1 I really like, this one not so much.

I'm using Mac 10.6.2, Snow Leopard on a 24" iMac.The MP560 produces excellent text and photo quality.It can be used hard wired or wireless but not both at the same time. So if you have a laptop as well as a desk computer as we do, do not use a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer as it will then not be accessible to the wireless laptop.It does not support auto on/off but if left powered on, it goes into sleep energy saver mode and wakes quickly. At first this seemed to be a problem deal breaker but learning of the power save mode makes it easy to keep the printer on if we know that we will be using it from our laptops rather than the iMac.Ink cartridges significantly smaller than for my previous Pixma 5200 but slightly cheaper. But it will be the primary expense of this printer. I am not sure if this is different from any other brand of printer out there, however.The paper outlet drawer opens automatically when the printing begins so you can leave it closed for a tidier look to the printer.You do not have to install the complete software et al contents of the Installation disc if you chose not to. Using the installation disc, you can chose Custom Install and chose only what you want to install. The choices are the instruction manual, the drivers, and the software so it is not necessary to install the complete package as has been noted in another review.The top paper slot is for Photo paper, and the bottom tray is for regular paper. The default on the printer is Automatic Chosing depending on what you are going to print. On my older Pixma 5200, you have to tell the printer which tray of the two to use but it was not any problem with the 5600 as the automatic choice seems to work just fine every time.The lcd screen, which is becoming standard on printers these days, allows for printing directly from a camera without the computer, and allows for esy copying. My current copier is a sheet loader so a receipt or other small item has to be taped to a full sized page to pass through the copier. Not so with this machine as you just lift the top door of the scanner component and place your small paper inside just like the grown up copiers. This makes a hugh difference wfor us but probably not so if you already have a copy machine that works the same way.A major problem occurred but Canon tech support helped me develop a workaround solution.iPhoto in 10.6.2 cannot print borderless of any number of prints per page other than one. So if you want to print 2 or 4 borderless prints per page, you will get borders despite the settings you chose. It will print a borderless full page print, however but you will be taken through an extra print dialogue box after you select Print.Because of this, I installed the Canon software which is much more intuitive to use than printing from iPhoto itself and does allow for multiple borderless prints per page. The problem with the Canon Easy PhotoPrint EX is that it does not recognize iPhoto so you cannot chose any of the photos in the iPhoto library. What to do?Create a desktop folder (mine is called iPhoto pics) and Copy and Paste any photos from iPhoto that you wish to print. The Canon Easy PhotoPrint software will callup a dialogue box allowing you to chose form many areas of your computer to chose photos to print, and the Desktop is among them. It takes several clicks the first time to get to the Desktop photos. So when the Easy Photoprint appears in the dock (which it will once you start the Print process), right click on it and click Remain in dock choice). Then, every time you click on it in the dock, it will immediately take you to the folder on the desktop in which you have saved your photos for printing. It is much easier and quicker than it takes to read this paragraph.Now you can print as many borderless prints per page as you want directly from the Canon proprietary software.I'm looking forward to creating a custom Calendar and Valentine's Day album with photos on every page using the included software that walks you through the process.

Was delivered OK and packing looked OK but securing strips on appliance were missing, this made me examine it closeley and I found it to be a pre-used item made up to look new. When I contacted the seller he was very good about it. offered full refund and when I was about to send it back he said to keep it. The belt inside was loose and I think it had been sabotaged by someone previously. I feel sorry for the seller as it appeared he knew nothing about the fault.

Let me jump right into this. . .1) Wi-Fi. Nuff said! Actually I was scared at first because the unit comes with an 2nd user guide simply to troubleshoot the wi-fi. BUT. . .all you have do to is follow the instructions when running the install disc, which say (if you read them) to plug the printer in via USB cable. You must do this step before you can setup the wi-fi.2) USB cable provided. Finally a printer that doesn't make you buy this separately. Thank you Canon!3) Photo printing was impressive. If you have actual photo paper vs. regular copy paper then you can get some very gorgeous pictures printed. It's amazing how the single multi-colored cartridge can perform to this level. Not the same quality as the 5 cartridge inkjets, but comparable to my 3yr old Canon MP5204) Good and bad of the ink cartridge it uses a single multi-color cartridge for the blue-magenta-yellow. But since you have to replace the entire cartridge when one color goes out...not sure exactly if the cost in the end will be more or less than the multi-cartridge packs. I guess it depends on how efficient the printer will be over the long run in its use of the color cartridge vs. previous models.Replacements:Canon PG-210 XL Cartridge (Black) = about $17Canon CL-211 XL Cartridge (Color) = about $225) Scanning = disappointed. Wi-fi can communicate in two directions, but they only set this up for sending to the printer. Thus you must plug the cable in to the computer to scan. If you want more control of your scans get a real scanning software packages that will recognize the printer, because the software the printer comes with is mediocre.**update July 2011** - found you can scan wirelessly...but it was a chore for me to do and I didn't feel the instruction manual was clear on how to make this happen.6) Speaking of software...when you look at the feature list above on this amazon product description page, most of the highlights are actually software based. Big deal. Other than needing the drivers for the printer, most of the tasks marketed can be done better and with more features from free download-able software. Also most of the software features seem to be a shortcut to the Control Panel > Printers & Devices section of Windows, not to mention no configuring of Wi-Fi anywhere other than upon initial setup. Guess you'll need to run the installer again to get to those features.7) Copying is noisy, but pretty fast when doing a black & white copy. I did put a page of Consumer report in and selected the Color copy. The product images came out with good detail and the small ratings on the red bars were easy to read. Nice and clear copies!8) Nice full black color aesthetics. My old printer (MP520) is mostly a flat grey silver, but this nice high glossy printer looks sleek.OVERALL:- Much of the "features" highlighted are so-so software driven enhancements.- I love how it's wireless!- I don't see why scanning couldn't be made wireless too, but with the right 3rd party software the quality and manipulation of the scan are good.- Only time will tell if the move to a single color cartridge will be less or more expensive.- I'm overall happy with the speed and quality.

bought this as a replacement for the ip4850 , so glad i did. this is a far better model with the advantage of wireless printing,larger ink cartridges and a better quality print ,the CD print option is easier to perform on this model than previous canon printers, great printer and fantastic price.

The first printer that we ordered never worked properly, so we returned it and got a new one. It has been 11 months, and now this one has stopped working. It won't even turn on. I have three other printers in my house and they are all at least three years old and have continued to work without incident. I can't imagine that a power surge would cause the problem, because I have a very good power surge protector on the printer and the computer, as well as a whole house surge protector that cost $1,500. The printer worked fine for the most part while working, although it did leave fine lines in larger photo prints, even on the best quality setting. The reliability is a problem, and if I had to figure the cost that I paid per print, based upon the 11 months that I owned the printer, it probably cost me 40 cents for every page I printed! Not a particularly good deal.
