Installation is very long winded...press this button, press that button, wait 20 seconds and press this button just to setup the wireless. The instructions is just as long winded and could have easily been condensed. Once installed it seems to do it's job well enough although it's VERY slow, the slowest printer i've ever owned and if you create a document that contains images and text it seems to have a mind of it's own, printing only the image! The only solution i've found to this is to save the document, close it and then re-open it for it to print the entire document. I also created a leaflet, setting up the page in MS Word, formatting the page to have 2 leaflets next to each other and when i tried to print it the printer chose to only print 1 of the images, ignoring the second one right next to it! Again the only solution was to close and re-open the document for the printer to print the entire document instead of what it seems to be choosing to print! I haven't tested copying or scanning yet as i'll probably have to take the afternoon off just to follow the instructions lol.
After 2 months of ownership it decided to start chewing up paper when printing a multi page document so i had enough and returned it to Amazon. Amazon as always provided excellent customer service, giving me a full no quible refund. I was almost glad that it started chewing up paper so i could get rid of the damn thing and go back to Epson!
All in all this has to be the worst printer i've ever owned! From the rediculously long winded setup and installation to it seemingly having it's own mind over what it chooses to print. There are many printers in the same price range and even cheaper that do a much better job.No complaints with Amazon though...delivered quickly using their free delivery option and refunding my purchase price when it started chewing up paper. Thank you Amazon for your excellent customer service!
Interesting to see most of the 5 star reviews are recent purchases, where the reviewer hasn't given the Pixma MG3250 a chance to start ruining page after page of expensive business card stock, or waited all evening for it to come to some sort of decision about printing the first page of something - or not.
Well, mine has just wasted it's last page. It just started giving me a '7' and a '1' error, which usually I would go some way toward solving but having gone through this process unsuccessfully with Pixma number one I thought I'd save myself some life and just feed it back to PC World.
Thankfully I got insurance on this thing so I get my
Once unboxed I followed the instructions to connect it by wireless. I have a BT Home Hub 3, it is supposed to be able to connect using WPS, which is a feature available on the Home Hub 3, however I was unable to get the two to communicate with each other. So the next step was to connect using the supplied USB lead and setup CD, however this proved even more frustrating, as the setup guide uses your web browser as the program to run the setup guide, which should not be a problem, except I was using firefox, which caused the setup to stop halfway through, after a few attempts, I installed google chrome, but found that the setup wouldn't even run using this, so next up I downloaded internet explorer 10 which allowed the setup to run correctly so all was good. Now I know most people have some form of internet explorer on their PC, but I did not, and feel that it would have been useful for this to have been stated in the paper setup instructions somewhere.
Now that the printer is all setup, I cannot fault it, just turn it on press print and it does it all for you, even to the extent of opening the front flap!
Overall this is a very good printer, but just make sure that if WPS doesn't work to connect it that you have internet explorer installed.
Quality of print excellent. If it has one fault it would be noise. It is quite noticeable and the printer vibrates a little. In quietude it is much better. The trade off being a little loss in speed of printing. I was able to connect my tower a laptop and my phone in 15 minutes very easy to use..
As this is a slightly older model printing ink can be attained from several sites specialising in remanufacture cartridges. Cost approx 2.50-3 pounds a cartridge. New cartridges from Canon typically 12 pounds each approx.
I note that there are lots of negative comments about the amount of ink used and the time to start printing. This is true but ...... only because the default setting is to power off after 240 minutes. When you power on, the printer goes through its head cleaning routine which takes time and ink. Set the 'auto-power off' to disable and the printer works both speedily and uses much less ink.
Why mark it down a star? I'm not so happy with the scanning. I have been spoilt with an old Canon LIDE stand alone scanner bought from Amazon years ago for a song, and I've yet to find anything that performs better. One of the cheapest Inks and also lasts longer.
Have only used it a few times, mainly for documents, but I have tried it to print a couple of Photos. All look good to date. The only thing that seems to be a pain is it can take a while for some items to print. The printer goes through some test routines before it actually prints. The other thing that you need to be careful of is getting items stuck in the print spooler. As a wireless printer you can have it set up on a number of machines, If you send something make sure it comes out, other wise you may end up seeing a message printer waiting for print to finish, and have no idea which machine it came from, so you have to check them all and try to cancel. Just a word of warning.
I bought this mainly for disk printing which it does well but its a bit of messing around compared to the two models ive mentioned before, every time i try to print a disk i get a error to close the disk tray, then have to press the resume buttong, then open the disk tray insert the dvd / cd tray and press resume again, this happens every time i print a disk, maybe i have a fault but seems unlikely
Paper loading tray to me seems silly, should of stuck to the old tried and tested method of feeding the paper in at the top , pointless feature, just makes it more awkward and the printer is bigger as a result of this, also get errors with printing paper and have to mess around with the resume button
The wifi ive not tried but im not holding out much hope of being able to print pictures from my phone when pretty much every print ive tried i have to be by the printers side pressing buttons
Not all negative though, it does print great quality prints pretty quick, seems much quicker then my last couple of printers and the prints are worthy of hanging on the wall, no doubt about that, disk prints are equally as good
Will definitely be using again and recommend the sellers. Good service great product.
Thank you.
The second issue that I have with this printer is the spooling time after you have switched the printer on. It can often take a minute or three whirring and clicking away before it actually gets around to printing anything out. Not exactly great if you need to print something out in a hurry.
Furthermore, it does seem quite big for an A4 printer. Its wider and deeper than my previous Canon iP4850 printer.
It came well packaged and protected and was easy to unpack. The quick-start guide was pretty easy to follow and told me everything I needed to do step-by-step - at least until it got to the WiFi set-up when it unfortunately lapsed into incomprehensible jargonese, burbling on about WPS buttons and LANs. However it said if my system couldn't do this I should leap forward to another section. No idea whether my system could do it, but I certainly couldn't. So I leapt ahead as suggested and it talked me through how to connect to WiFi using a USB cable which was supplied. This worked fine.
All set to go...then error message saying wrong type of printer cartridge installed. Since what was installed was what they'd provided this seemed unlikely, so I took it out and stuck it in again and on the third attempt it worked. Don't know if that will be a recurring problem when I try to change the cartridge in future.
So the set-up was complete in about 25 minutes. The print quality is fine and it's fast enough for my low-usage purposes. It is a bit noisy - not a problem if it's only going to be used occasionally, but might be annoying in heavy use. Both scanning and photocopying work fine, though the colours are truer when using copy rather than scan and print - and in neither case are they completely true. Scanning takes a lo-o-ong time but copying is very quick. I have put the printer upstairs from both router and computer and the WiFi works fine at that range. The installed software automatically attaches itself to the start-up menu and is annoying if you don't need to be printing all the time, since it puts a big option panel on the desktop; but it gives the option to stop the auto-start from happening if you prefer.
Overall, so far, so good. It's pretty basic but for the low-quantity user who doesn't need particularly high quality scanning, it's easy to operate and does the job. For info, I'm using it with Windows 7 and a Virgin Media router. I will update the review should there be any problems.
Fine when it works
Connecting to wi fi as per instructions in the quick start guide didn't work however if you load the supplied cd rom into your cd drive once you've downloaded the software ,drivers etc there's a set up menu connect the printer to the computer with the usb lead supplied go through the on screen instructions and your done, your connected ,remove usb lead for wireless printing .
A quick note my wife has got a laptop with no cd drive ,so I opened up the cd menu copied everything onto an sd card ( took about 15mins)
Put the sd card into my wife's computer opened opened up sd card menu clicked on setup and everything installed as per the cd
Ps make sure your connected to the internet.
Pricey for ink so have used to have it as a back up. It's now my main printer as my old Brother Printer died on me and it makes me flinch to buy the inks! Will need to buy another for normal document printing.
I usually always look to see the price of replacement inks before I buy the printer. Initial low price on the shelf isn't always a good deal!
I've done a small test ordering 5 prints to be printed in a studio and printed same 5 with my iP7259. Studio prints disappointed me with the lack of saturation compared to my own prints.
Yes, housekeeping probably takes a minute but damn! The quality is amazing!
