After reading so many different reviews I wasn't expecting much from a laptop speaker, but since you couldn'thear anything from my laptop without headphones I had to try something. I was more than pleasantly surprised at the sound quality for the price. It was so easy to use. Just clip on, plug into a USB port and it's ready to go. The volume was plenty loud . I'm no sound expert, but the sound quality is everything I need to listen to music, watch movies and play games. It looks good too. I would recommend this to anyone looking to purchase an inexpensive external speaker for their laptop.

We purchased this little speaker system for my wife's mini-laptop. She uses a "text-to-speech" program and the builtin speaker is weak. This makes a huge difference. Logitech always seems to "score" for me, great products and very reasonable prices.

Best buy for the dollar. If your looking for a 5.1 system for your computer that sounds good for a good price this is it. If you love bass than you will love this system, however of you don't like heavy bass you'll also like it because you have full control over the sub from the control pod. Features are pretty good you can connect multiple devices and its quick and easy to change between them with the remote. Mounting the speakers on the wall is pretty easy but they only pivot 1 way so it may be hard to get the speaker the direction you want it. Overall the speakers sound great and look good. Best Bang for the Buck.

Take it out of the box, clip it on, plug in the USB port and enjoy. A simple, inexpensive speaker that should improve your laptop built-ins. Good sound projection, a bit tinny, and meager bass(you should expect this), but it still is a decent upgrade for my laptop at a fair price. I listened on interent radio and was pleasantly surprised.

Was pleasantly surprised the first time I plugged in the speakers, really good sound and design, not to big and doesn't take up a lot of space. Not to mention no big subwoofer taking up floor space.

This speaker gives my netbook the added volume to be able to hear a movie while traveling to remote job locatons. I use it allot. Not the best quality but for the price it cannot be beat and is great for travel use.

I am all about sound quality. Whether it's the TV, iPod, or Computer. In the past, I have only used 2.1 speakers as I never had a computer that supported 5.1 or 7.1. Last fall I bought a new multimedia computer but have yet to give it much multimedia use -- until now!My older speakers were starting to lose quality and receiving too much interference from my blackberry. When shopping, I considered the 2.1 THX Logitech speakers and similar Bose speakers. I decided for the Amazon price compared to store price, these were going to be my best value for the quality. I mean if you are going to spend $200 for 2.1 speakers why not drop the extra $100 for 5.1?My experience so far has been great. I ordered these speakers early on a Friday morning. I was completely shocked when the FedEx truck pulled up on Saturday afternoon with the delivery! Amazing Amazon! The boxed arrived and it was quite heavy and large. The FedEx guy was annoyed he had to walk to the back door. The woofer is huge and amounted for all the weight and size. (Be sure to read the instructions on placement.) The 5 speakers are light weight and average computer side. Everything was easy to setup. Although I did make an error by plugging the L&R front speakers into the 7.1 L&R side speaker computer port. Once I had my speakers placed, everything works great.Understand that all speakers are hard wired. They are not wireless. That was my first impression looking at the picture. What you see are the legs. They swivel around so you can put the speakers on a flat top or mount them to a wall. Logitech provide plenty of high quality cable, too. And if you are new to the 5.1 or 7.1 world, you need a sound card that will support these speakers. By that, I mean you need more than a single speaker port on standard computers. While you can still use that connection using a male to male stereo jack in the Aux port, you will not get true surround sound. 5.1 speakers will have three ports (front center, L&R front, L&R rear) while 7.1 will have four ports (the same three as 5.1 with an additional L&R side). Be sure you have the right sound card before buying these speakers. Your computer should also have driver/software for the speaker (different than the windows mixer). My computer uses Realtec HD Audio Manager. Use your program to setup corrections (volume changes and distance).I highly recommend these speakers. However, they are so good that I am just now realizing the major difference between 96 and 256 bit rates for MP3s!

I've been using these speakers for a little under a year now, and I'm still impressed with how well they sound. They're plenty loud enough for a bedroom (I use them mostly for playing computer games), and might even be enough for a small living room setting. The quality of sound and construction is also very impressive for such a small and inexpensive surround system. The surround sound is very precise and clear, and installation was easy and flexible; my two front speakers are sitting on the desk, the rear speakers are mounted on the wall using the rotating stands, and the center channel sits on top of my monitor. Although it doesn't look very stable, I've never actually had the center speaker fall off the monitor. My one complaint is that the cables for the rear speakers are too short, but I was able to fix that with an RCA extension cable. I've recommended these speakers to friends, and my roommate recently bought this same model and enjoys his too.

I have to say that the positive reviews are right--these speakers sound great for the price, especially when paired with a decent sound card. They are perfect for an office, but are a little underpowered for a great room/den-type area. I'll be looking for other speakers that have a little more "oomph." The reason for the 3-star review is that we own two pairs of these speakers. On one pair, the left driver has failed (it's been just over one year). On the other, the volume knob is very stiff over the first half of its travel (since new, but not worth returning). I will obviously need to replace the speakers that have the dead left driver, but I will say the sound quality exceeded my expectations. Considering the price, I'd probably buy another pair for a small home office environment even though we are 0 for 2 so far on these.EDIT July 2010: The dead driver is due to a faulty cable or plug. It wasn't a failure of the speaker itself. Guess that can happen with cables but it's not like they're getting yanked around--they should have held up a little better. Would be perfect if they had the mini-plugs on both sides so you could just plug in a new cable and go. The three star rating stands.

I wanted to buy a good, powerful 5.1 system for my desktop.I found some good reviews of 'Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with Subwoofer '...So, I bought it. I found its volume a little low... Means lower than the expected from a 5.1 system...But if you wanna use it at home, then it's more than enough. Only thing is that, You can't rock your house or apartment with Blasting Sound...! But the Subwoofer is really good... Great Punches...!So, I took away 1 star for the lower volume than EXPECTED....But This is just Great for the Price... Really...!You can buy it and rate it 5/5 too...

If you want an outstanding sounding system for a very good price then look no further. The Logitech 5.1 systems is simply amazing for the low price. The little subwoofer puts out a lot of quality bass, hitting the high and low bass frequencies with ease. The surround speakers respond accurately and crisply to everything from gunfire in a video game to explosions in a movie to an enveloping sound when playing music. I simply cannot see paying hundreds of dollars for any other system that likely does not beat the sound of these Logitech.

First of all, don't buy these speakers if you want something that will fill a large room with rich, full sound - you will be disappointed. Do buy these speakers if you want a simple solution to enhance your multimedia experience on your laptop while mobile, as a supplement to a more substantial permanent solution in the home.I bought these for a trip I was taking so I could play music and video while staying in a hotel room. I was staying with a friend and we're both into music, so I wanted speakers that would provide decent and reasonably loud sound reproduction in our room. I originally bought the Audiosource DB5 speakers after doing some research and reading reviews here on Amazon. They are a good option for ultra-compact speakers, but just didn't have the "punch" I was looking for. They work as a quick solution to plug in an MP3 player for some background music, but they just can't drive sound enough to provide an immersive experience.Since my trip was coming up soon and I didn't have time to buy something and have it shipped via Amazon, I ran out to a local Best Buy to see what else was available. I got it down to the Creative Labs T20's and these Logitech V20's. The T20's would have definitely done the trick, but they aren't meant as travel speakers, and wouldn't have packed up easily. They're heavy, have an external power source, and need to be plugged into the headphone jack of your laptop (same as the Audiosource speakers, which was not a positive for me). So, I hesitantly picked up the V20's and checked out.When I got home I took them out of their carrying case (which is a really nice touch), connected them together, and plugged them into a USB port on the back of my laptop. Within a few seconds Windows (I'm using Vista 32 Home Premium with SP1) recognized them, installed the driver, and they were set to go. I fired up my music management software, played a song, and instantly knew that I'd made the right decision.As others have said, they will bounce around a bit and distort and cut in and out if you start going over 80% volume. At that high a volume level, they start trying to draw too much power from the USB port, which causes the stuttering playback and distortion. That doesn't really matter though, because even at 50% they are more than adequate for portable speakers connected to a laptop. They deliver excellent bass and good highs, but are lacking a bit in the midrange. That said, these are portable speakers rated at 2W, and I think they do an exceptional job for the size/price.The friend I was staying with travels a lot to remote places in Alaska, and he is going to buy them himself after hearing them. I have never written a review on Amazon before, but I was so happy with these that I had to come back and relay my experience. These speakers won't be for everyone, but I don't think anyone would knock them for what they are in their price point and category.Highly, highly recommended!

these speakers are perfect for small rooms, the bass is surprisingly powerful if you find a sweet spot in the room.at low volume the quality becomes spotty and hollow sounding- sort of twangy, but at mid range to 3/4ths volume they peak in quality.the sound matrix button does not do very much for sound quality but it's expected for an artificial 5.1 systemgreat for computer but i wouldn't recommend it for a tv.also cables are a bit too short

I had lots of trouble with these. I do a lot of training, using powerpoint on my laptop and I wanted to use these for presentations with sound clips, like news reports, etc. I did a lot of research and decided on these. They come in a hard-sided carrying case which was REALLY nice. But they only worked about half the time. I plugged them in and the lights come on, but no sound. Sometimes they would work if I used a different USB port, but usually not. I also thought the controls were a little overly complicated. Threw them away yesterday.

I bought these X-140 speakers to replace a cheap set of 2.1 speakers which started having hissing problems. While these don't have a subwofer, and they won't rattle the floorboards, the sound is still quite respectable. Highs are crisp, while the bass is clean and sufficiently robust to satisfy the needs of casual background music and occasional games of Battleship. Mid-range frequencies seem to be lacking something, so the sound is not quite perfect, but still better than one might expect in this price range.I'm also impressed with how well these speakers distribute sound evenly throughout a small bedroom. There are no hot spots, and no discernible "sweet spot" which sounds better than any other. I even hear clear stereo separation while doing exercises on the floor. As an audio/visual technician for 12 years, I never heard professional equipment that distributed sound as evenly as these do.I would advise anyone using new speakers of any type to go into your computer's audio settings and media player settings and set everything (EQ and effects) back to their defaults. The settings that worked with your old speakers may sound horrible on your new ones, so start with a clean slate and adjust the settings to your new speakers. Then adjust the speaker's built-in tone control for a little extra enhancement. You'll get the most out of these if you do so.These speakers are about 10" tall, and about 4" wide, so they're not as small as they look in the photo. Their construction is beautifully solid, far superior to anything else I looked at in stores, even at twice the price. Overall they feel hefty and sturdy. The cables are of good quality. The knobs feel firm and operate smoothly. The front grilles are metal, not plastic. All the pieces fit together cleanly and snugly. From what I've seen these are by far the best speakers in this price range.

After reading the reviews I thought I would take a chance and purchase this speaker. For it's size, which is small, it produces excellent sound. Very clear highs but of course a speaker of this size is not going to produce much bass. You can adjust the sound with the equalizer in windows media player, itunes, etc. to get suprisingly good results. I was satisfied enough with the quality of this speaker to get one as a gift for a friend.

This sound system is SO LOUD! It offers fantastic sound quality with the ability to have everyone in a college dorm building hear it. The bass rattles all the windows and gives a quality thump. Everyone will comment on how great this system sounds and looks.

These are the best speakers Ive ever had... The bass hits so hard... I can't play these at its maximum level because Ive already had 3 people knockin on my door and have only had this system for 2 days... I love it... I haven't even got all five speakers workin yet... But when I do... I guarantee I will have to turn it down even more... GREAT FN PRODUCT LOGITECH!

My laptop is over seven years old and never had impressive sound to begin with, so this speaker set was a natural fit. Considering the soundbar is roughly six inches long and two inches tall, the sound quality is impressive if not exactly room-filling. Setup couldn't be easier either, as the unit simply clips on the top of the laptop. After that it's a simple plug-and-play USB connection. The design is streamlined and classy and doesn't appear awfully out of place, particularly on newer models with matching colors.As other reviewers have noted, the soundbar's perch has the potential to be a bit wobbly, but this is perhaps inevitable owing to its clip-on application. The enclosed booklet even mentions this, and it's truly not precarious enough for concern unless you're computing during an earthquake. Aside from the setup booklet, the box includes a USB cable and a nice carrying pouch with a separate pocket for the USB cable. It's all quite compact and fits neatly in a laptop case. Prior to receiving the Z205 I hadn't really given much thought to upgrading the speakers on my laptop, but I really can't imagine listening to music or videos without it again.

Excellent speakers, what else is there to say?Huge sub woofer, lots of bass if you want it.Excellent control center with wireless remote.Optical in gives a level of clarity you don't get with the 6 channel direct.Love the different sound modes with pro logic II.Uses normal detached 2 strand wire that you connect just like a regular sound receiver. (instead of attached to speaker with the rca plug) This makes adding more length very easy, and allows you to use standard speaker wire.very nicely packaged, even included batteries for the remote.Cons?These are expensive especially for computer speakers. Takes a pretty hard core pc guy to dish out nearly 400 dollars for speakers. But its something you can use for years to come, that is if you take care of them. This is probably the last of its kind, high end quality 5.1 system for a pc, especially one that has optical out, either on the pc motherboard/sound card, or speaker system that accepts it.I am impressed, excellent speakers. Rivals my 2k home theatre.

I experienced the popping and hissing sounds mentioned in other reviews, but only when turning on the speakers. The speakers are very large and suitable for a permanent desktop set up. The sound quality otherwise is really good, decent bass output. For the price, these have great computer sound output and much better than the ones that are packaged by Dell or other PC package. However, I can not get over how large and bulky it is. If you have a small desk or live in a small apartment or dorm room, these speakers may be larger than what you are looking for.I have gotten a lot of mileage off these speakers over the two years, even though they're kind of klunky. I can't say it has let me down, but they also have not impressed me in any way.

I've been around sound equipment my whole adult life, have an above average feel for it. First time out, these speakers worked fine. Second try, they were completely blown. Scratchy, garbled, etc. These are useless, don't waste your money.

The product itself is fine I know a number of people who own it. However, I strongly recommend that you do not purchase it from this vendor. I ordered it and they cancelled the order without even a courtesy email. I guess its considered good business practice to just let the customer figure it out. If you don't listen to my advice good luck but as for me I will NEVER buy anything from these people again.

I replaced a 2.1 system from Yamaha for this set because I was tired of hearing muddy bass all the time. I am so happy I decided to buy these. I've had the x-540 since the beginning of February and waited a while to review the system so I could get acquainted with it better.The sound is stellar, there's a better sense of spatial effects, the bass is very clear, overall excellent for the price. I don't think I've had to turn the volume up past 1/3, so you don't have to worry about the speakers not being powerful enough. The matrix mode is great for movies, I don't use it for music because I think it sounds better normally plus most music is mixed in stereo anyway. Also, the easy bass adjustment is very convenient.Qualms: the "control pod" has a headphone jack which my Sennheisers cannot connect to, the jack is sunk in a bit and the headphone input is too big to fit in there. This doesn't really matter because I can just plug my headphones straight into my iPod or TV.If you're looking for a sizable improvement in sound and you don't want to spend too much, I would highly recommend these.

I'm writing mainly on the reliability of this speaker set.I bought this model from Logitech's site 4 years ago. I have used it almost everyday since then and and it still works great. It doesn't surprise me that they are still selling such a good product, though.The sound quality has been fantastic throughout my ownership, good midrange and high notes balanced out by the powerful base. It is great for gaming and movies, especially if your computer has a good sound capabilities built in.My complaints are minor, there is a paucity of inputs (only 3) and the speaker cables require creative methods of hiding.

After shopping the big box stores for a decent 5.1 sound system I looked on line for the best price. After researching for a few days I settled on the Logitech X540. The speakers come with appropriate mounting attachments that allow the speakers to be mounted virtually anywhere. I think my chief complaint with the installation is that the speaker wires are incredibly short. I had to splice the rear speakers which is dicey but it worked out fine. I was just shocked at how short the lines are. The volume control hub is a nice feature. I do not have to leave an application or game to adjust volume since I can do it on the logitech desktop hub. There is an additional "matrix" button that may or may not enhance your listening experience. Music formatted in certain ways can be enhanced as well as in-game sounds. It depends on if the sound file is formatted to take advantage of the proprietary "matrix" channels. So far, very few music files or games seem to take advantage of the enhancement. I found that activating it can actually diminish the sound quality. Generally I just don't use it. The sound is pretty decent for the price. The unit arrived new and factory sealed as advertised however the magnet in the subwoofer was detached and I had to repair that. It was no big deal for me but I could see how it might be intimidating for some others to mess with. I suspect it came loose in shipping rather than a factory defect. Overall, I am pleased with the sound, didn't mind the repairs and additional wires I had to add. I would suggest measuring your speaker distances and making sure you are going to be satisfied with speaker placement. The speaker wires are very short.

The sound of this system is amazing for the price. The center and each satellite has two drivers each, so you have a total of 10 speakers plus the sub. Deep powerful bass and wide-range frequency response in the sats. Not audiophile but a lot for the money. Really good multichannel synthesis from a 2-channel stereo source, like a cable box or a DVD player.The volume control could have more range to it, but if you use these as your PC sound system that's not a problem, since you can adjust volume on your sound card. There is a separate bass volume control, and a button to turn off surround sound.I use it for watching cable and DVD playback, but it would make a dandy PC sound system as well.At the time I purchased, they only made a 5.1 system. Check to see if they now make an equivalent 7.1 system - that would be even better.

For the price (especially with rebate) the sound is fantastic. You won't be displeased with the sound. Installation is easy for small areas (10 Ft. x 10 Ft. with no walk-thru) but if you want to go long you will have to improvise with wire routing. My only minor complaint is that they did not design the base of the speakers to mount with three screws or more (mechanical engineering flaw1) and you cannot use a screwdriver easily for the mount because the speaker is in the way (mechanical engineering flaw2). The mount could not be removed from the speaker housing during installation. Once installed, though, I think the product was the right choice. Would have gotten five stars if the speakers mounted more easily...

These certainly will not compete with high end systems, but bang for the buck, these are a really good buy. The little 5(?) inch sub is not going to compete with high end bass reflex subs in either speed or bass, but then these do not sell for thousands of dollars, nor will the rest of the audio spectrum compare to really good 2, 3 or more way systems. My Ellis Audio and custom Holtz speakers with critical Q subs certainly shame them, but they also cost much more and that is for a pair, not 5 + 1. So, if you are looking for the ultimate, keep looking, but if you want a very good sub $100.00 system, look no more.The one item that does occasionally come up short is the gain. On some inputs which have lower audio levels than they should, you may have issues getting the volume you might like out of these, but that is not really a speaker issue, on normal material you can get reasonable levels with reasonable sound quality, most often you'll have volumes in excess of what most will feel comfortable listening to!I have not done exhaustive research, but to the extent that I have researched it, I have found nothing as good for the money. I purchased these for television, I have the Z-5500 system on my computer, and while it does give one a little more of everything, it does not embarrass the X-540 system, it's merely a bit better. For serious music listening, these are not what you want, but for TV or computer systems, they are just fine as well as a good buy.

For $100, you can't beat the quality. While somewhat complicated and time-consuming to set up (at least for someone like me who's never plugged in so many wires before), the result is well worth it. The moment everything was hooked up, I excitedly called everyone in the house to hear it. Instrument distribution is pretty good. The purity of the sound is gorgeous. Bass is wonderful, my favourite feature since I have mostly bass-heavy songs and never got to enjoy them in this quality before.There are a few cons. The remote control is wired. The wires to the speakers are pretty short-- don't plan on placing the speakers more than six feet away from the subwoofer. You don't want wires running across your floor anyway. The fact that they're wired at all is annoying. There is a lot of static at times, unless you turn the bass all the way up, which isn't ideal for some songs. An ionizer should help clear this problem up, I plan on getting one soon.All in all, the pros outweigh the cons and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Bought this to use with my laptop when watching movies on my TV. It sounds great and well worth the 70 dollars I paid for it. It is now two years later and this system is now connected to my 55inch Samsung TV in our bedroom. I was able to place the rear speakers on our bedposts and we get some surround sound. These things really do have some power and some pretty good base. I seem to have been lucky when I bought this system a couple of years ago because these speakers cost a lot more.

I used these speakers on my HP Netbook. I actually thought the weight of the speakers clipped on the Netbook might flop over. Surprisingly it stayed upright fine.Portability is a great plus, because size wise it doesn't take much room to pack it w/ my Netbook. The sound is also of better quality than the dinky ones given on the HP Netbook.However, I wouldn't classify this as surround system sounds. It's a little clearer and slightly louder than the HP speakers. But I wouldn't be using these speakers for presentation purposes because there's no way to make it louder than the Netbook volume settings.I also like the fact the fact that there's no installation of any software or setup other than plugging the speakers into your USB port and attaching it to the top of your screen. The clip fit exactly on the Netbook w/o hindering the actual monitor.I would recommend this item for those who just want better sound quality for personal use. For professional usage like presentations I would recommend other bulkier speakers.

Bought these in 1/2009 and never pushed them, I don't play music overtly loud, ever. The unit died on me 12/2010. speakers are fine, the board in the woofer must have just died. Not happy.

I purchased this speaker set for my PC a few months ago. Setup was quick and easy, everything is color coded and intuitive. Before I purchased this set, I read a few reviews that stated the rear speaker wires were too short. I am using this set in a 12X12 room, and the wires were long enough to reach the far back right and left corners of the room, but just barely. Quality and performance seem very high so far, although the set is not extremely loud. When watching dvd's I often have the system at 80% volume. Having said that, 5.1 surround for under $100 is amazing, and I am very satisfied with this set.

This speaker boosts the volume and sound quality on my Dell laptop running Vista. You can't set the volume to blast you out of your room and it doesn't have the fancy sub-woofer stuff but that is not what we were looking for. It is compact, clips right onto your computer with a USB cable or you can set it next to you. No power cord which keeps your laptop portable. You plug it in and it just works. No settings to fool with, no program to load. The cord and speaker fit just right into the carrying pouch making it very portable and I don't have to worry about it getting damaged. These speakers can go anywhere with you. I thought the pricing was good. This product was just what I was looking for.

This was to be a gift for christmas but unfortunatly it never came. Was ordered within the safly get there by the 24th but am dissappointed it never showed up!

All my friends have gotten these speakers, So this past black friday I found a deal on this bad boy. I jumped on it and it was worth every dollar. Easy to setup and sounds great ! Logitech makes awesome products !

Reasonable price. Sounds spectacular without buzzing when turned loud. Makes for great immersive sound in PC gaming. With the sub on the floor you feel the gunfire. Is def intended for PC use though. I'm sure it'd work great for home theater but the length of the surround speakers are short so limits distance. Other than that, great purchase. Recommend for anyone looking to beef up their PC gaming experience. Oh, and sounds great with even a simple sound card so no need to upgrade to utilize speakers.

Well... I bought these over 6 months ago. I actually have these set up in my Kitchen. The way my Kitchen is designed; I have a good bit of space on top of our cabinets. And my Kitchen is a good size. I put all the speakers on top and the Sub on the floor. The main control is setting a bit off to the side. And all the wires are hidden properly and up thru the Cabinets. Now in my Living room I have an Onkyo 7.1 system that puts out 1000 watts, which I used most of the time.. And when I put this system in, I kinda figured it would be an OK system as a side thing to use at times. Well after putting these in, I was completely amazed at the sound quality. These are louder than I expected. And they sound great. I do wish there was a bit more cleaner Bass, not I am still happy with these.I have been using these more than my main system. In fact I very rarely use my other system to listen to music anymore. I got these from DELL at a great price ( 250 including free shipping) and these are well worth the money. Even if I had paid more, I would be happy with them. These are a great Speaker system as your Primary or secondary. You will definitely be happy with them..

Updated November 7, 2012In the past, Amazon classified this product as Hazardous Waste, which prevented me from returning it because I was not happy with the mid-range quality of this speaker system.I really did want to like this product... So many 5 star reviews, TXH certified... Who could resist! Unfortunately, the speakers have ALMOST NO MID-RANGE. This system was very Tinny with a great sub-woofer, but hey, what about the Mid-Range!!! Maybe this is good for the gamer crowd, but for home theatre, honestly, wow, it is quite bad.Good to know that Amazon had my back on this one... At least they changed their ways for future buyers.

It's amazing how good these small speakers sound. Even the carrying case they come in is pretty decent! I've never been disappointed with Logitech products, and these are no exception. Clear, crisp sound with more bass than I expected from their size.

I purchased this so my middle son could watch movies on his computer. Not having experience with sub-woofers, I wasn't ready for the rumble that can be heard throughout the house. Of course, my kids think this is "way cool."What we all love is the clarity of the sound. My only advice is to check the connections in the back of your computer before the purchase. We had to upgrade (if that's the correct term) the computer first. Since this is my oldest son's field of experience, it wasn't a big deal.We've had the set up for about three months now and there isn't one negative thing I can say about it. I love Logitech products, so it's not a shocker for me to be thoroughly satisfied with the purchase.

Looks great and ease of use is its primary attribute. At higher volume, though, sounds tinny as it vibrates the housing with annoying consequence. It is not for those wishing to play music with decent bass response as the volume I speak of is not really all that high. It's disappointing in this regard. Only adequate for viewing video, movies, etc. I won't return it but I would not purchase had I tested this product before hand.

These are great sounding speakers at a modest price and will do well for anyone who needs basic sound. They are clean, hum-free, buzz-free and have a full bodied clear tone. These are NOT giant GAME BLASTERS or massively loud wall rattling speakers. For that, you need something else. If you expect to have bass like those guys riding around in Boom Cars with thousand watt speakers, this isn't that.I play my downloaded music and videos at the desktop and for that, they are great. Like most Logitech products you get a good bang for the buck. These speakers feel well made, have a nice finish and look good. What else could you want at this price?

I purchased 5 speaker sets in the price range of $20-$30. My intent was to find the best set for teachers to use in their classroom at this price range. Out of the 5 sets the Logitech LS21 2.1 Stereo Speaker System $30 was the only one I returned. The sound was okay, but the all the others were noticeably better.Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System (Black) - good sound, but if the max volume was any softer then it would not work well in a classroom. $24Logitech X-140 2.0 Speakers - Loudest Volume level; Easiest hookup with only 2 speakers; bass levels are okay without a subwoofer, but subwoofer would improve music; Best of the group for listening to someone talking. $27Boston Acoustics Horizon MM220 Multimedia Speaker System (Midnight) - I would describe this set as being in the middle of the road compared to the 2 described above. Sound volume, music quality and talking quality are clearly in the middle.EDIT: 9/2/2011I just purchased the Altec Lansing VS2620 Speakers for Computers and MP3 Players (Black) It has good volume and the sound quality is as good as any of the others I reviewed in this note. I purchased it for $20, but see it has gone up a little - still a good price.My Recommendation - Depending on what you want to mostly use them for... -Overall Good Choice - Altec Lansing VS2620 Speakers for Computers and MP3 Players -Music - Logitech S220 -Talking and Volume - Logitech X-140 -The Boston Acoustics Horizon MM220 has gone up in price on Amazon ($87) and is $38 on [...]. I would not pay that much. If I was going to spend that much I would purchase the Bose Companion 2 Series II at SamsClub for $60 plus tax. You can simultaneously hook up a computer and DVD/VCR and the sound is great.
