I got these speakers for my laptop, but was dissappointed when I found out I couldnt use all of the speakers because of my crappy notebook soundcard. However, even with only two speakers connected the sound was lound and clear. The sub-woofer is great, the only problem is that the satellite speakers have a flimsy base, so they tend to fall at times...

I got these speakers a few hours back and they are amazing... I really love them... The only problem that they have:1- The wire for the rear speakers are short even for my small room!!!2- It did not include the stereo cable connection from my computer to the adaptor (I had to get that separately!!!)Beside these, they are really good for the money that you pay... strongly recommend them if you are looking for a 5.1 system and don't want to spend hundreds on the receiver and the suround systems....

These speakers do everything that they are supposed to do, they are loud, and depending on your sound card, produce clear crisp sound, the base station is really nifty and useful and they are an all around great purchase.

These little guys are highly compact and get power from USB. They are ideal travelers speakers. That why I got them. They sound great close /small group up but are lacking in watts for using for much of a group presentation. Still really decent sound for the price and a neat package for stuffing in your briefcase.

I bought the Z-5500's at the same time that I was revamping my whole main PC/Gaming rig. At the same time I also purchased aCreative X-Fi Elite Pro sound card, a Dell 2405FPW 24" HD LCDmonitor, and Monster THX cables all the way around. If you are going to want to get the absolute MOST you can get out of these speakers buy the Monster S 1000 Ultra THX speaker cables for them. Get a 20' runs with gold wire ends at their ends. LOL,The cables weigh more than the speakers so anchor your cables right before the satelites (speakers), so they won't pull over the speakers. The speakers connectors on back are vertical and the cables are heavy so that is a small problem. The center channel speaker is a horizontal connection and it's a better fit. You'll see what I mean when you attach them. Follow a few simple steps to make installation a better process. Let the cables warm up stretched out flat, you can even use a blow dryer to get them warm so you can stretch them out flat after being bagged up coiled. Then attach each cable to the back of the power woofer, then to each speaker. The sound is incredable. Lower bass, awesome mid-range less harsh highs.If you wanna really see some digital tests with these installWinamp for free, go to "DIfm" radio streams on the internetgo to the listen now tab, click on Chill out ambient station,click on 96k listen now with winamp. UPS delivered this to my door about 48 hours after I placed my order - regular shipping, nothing speedy requested on my part. I had it unpacked and hooked up in less than 10 minutes. I have a 2 channel sound card so only the front is hooked up for now - unbelieveable sound quality for a system under $50. I'll be headed out for a new sound card soon to finish up this system. You just can't go wrong here. The reviews were a big help, and what led me to purchase this set up.

I am satisfied overall with the sound quality. I like the USB connection, and the good news is that no need for batteries and no power cord! This is a plus when you want to buy a portable speaker set. The speakers have the tendency to bounce and move on my desk. The cord connecting the two speakers is a bit short but you can live with it.

I, like alot of people, eagerly awaited my arrival of this system. I am quite pleased with the system, but there are a few things I am not fond of.PROS: VERY LOUD, very good to use as a home theatre system, the control box is very easy to use and the rotary knob is very precise. The subwoofer is HUGE and will shake the room, or in my case, the entire dormitory. Speaker quality is very clear, even when pushed to the limits. The price was astonishing for 1000 watts of power, although, I did not order it from Amazon.CONS: The subwoofer is huge, thus it does not play rock music very well, as it has no 'kick'. It does play rap, hip hop, or anything where the bass drops ASTONISHINGLY, but this doesnt help me too much. At low volumes, you can hear the sub, but it is not very defined because its so big that it needs alot more power to get it working in its efficiency range. Also, I was wishing that there was a seperate 'subwoofer volume' and 'main volume'. There is a subwoofer control, but that only works like a bass control, playing the bass deeper, but not necessarily louder. In order to get the loud bass, the main speakers also get quite loud, but at the parties we have here, bass is what gets people moving, not high-frequencies.VERDICT: Although I am still pleased with the system, I do not think that it rivals Kiplisch Ultra line of speakers. My roommate has Kiplisch Ultra 2.1's, and although my sound quality is better, and louder, his subwoofer makes up for the difference, easily playing all kinds of music with no need to change equalizers, and his also has 2 seperate volume controls for main speakers and subwoofer. Its little extras like that that make the difference. It is a great system, but if you are a music lover, this might not be the best system, however for an all around system, pricewise, it is a good deal.

These are really good speakers for this price range.It has a really prominent bass, so if u mind that these speakers are not for you. Plus there are no control knobs for increasing/decreasing bass or treble.I have used other speakers of this price range and this one has shown the best sound output.So all in all, great for the money!!

This sytem is very clear, the only thing that I was not impressed by is the sub. It is not as loud as thought that it would be although I have not yet been able to hook it up to the computer. I only have it connested to my 360(xbox) and dvd player.

Of all the sound systems I have purchased in the past for my computer, this is definitely the best investment yet for the money. My only wish would be that it had extra optical inputs. Sound quality is great, and the bass is incredible!

The speakers are compact and hide behind my monitor well, subwoofer puts out enough power for the lows to come through. They have been an excellent addition to my system. Nothing flashy, and very functional. The headphone jack helps as does the on/off button on right speaker. Had them up and running in a matter of minutes.

You really can't go wrong with this one. Not great response but what do you expect for less than $300? On the other hand, The possibilities for this surround system are endless. Want something just for the effects to complilment your bedroom wide screen? How about using it for a dedicated gaming sound system, (this is how my daughter has it configured). It's our second one. First one died as a result of recent electrical storm, (Yes the circuit was 'protected', but so what). Couldn't be happier for the investment.

The Logitech Z5500 speaker set is one of the best deals around... You get all of the features and benefits of a dolby digital decoder, true sourround sound and a digital control unit. Sound is fantastic- You may find that tweaking the equalizer settings on your media player/sound card will greatly improve and balance the sounds output.The best part... It can play loud, too! Cranking it up to its full potential produces deep, rich pounding bass, without even making the amplifier's heat sink very hot to the touch!A best buy!

These speakers have better sound then the ones in my MacBook and are really easy to carry around in my bag. They are usb powered so there is no need for a power brick or batteries. They do lack a little on the bass side, but that's a trade-off for portability. I think that Logitech could have made the carry case also hold the cable internally rather then using the exterior velcro loop.

I was looking for the perfect gift for a friend at a low price, and this was it! Has incredible sound, even better than some of the $100+ systems I've had before. And, not to mention, the gift receiver's eyes lit up at the set... He still thinks I payed a lot for it!

Speakers are great. Super easy to setup. Works awsome with my XFI Gamer sound card. I had alittle issue with crackling when I was using the PCI Express sound card that my Cross hair MB came with. That was resolved though when I got my XFI Gamer sound card. Over all I love the speakers and sound quality.

PRO---Great sound and price for what you get. sounds much better than my old surround sound.CON--- Stupid short cords. I have a small room and couldn't get cords to reach across. Especially for speakers that can be wall mounted, Its retarded to have cords too short to mount.

the speakers have been great....the only problem was the speaker wire that came with the speakers...we had to replace some of the speaker wire, which is cheap, because there was some buzzing and distortion coming from one of the speakers...but they were worth the price...they sound great now.

I was pleasantly surprised how good these speakers were for the price. I had to replace my original speakers but did not want to spend a lot of money. For $20 I was glad I did not get sucked into the more money means better quality because these do the job. I have the sub on the floor and the 2 little speakers on each side of the monitor and it sounds great. Buy them and keep some extra money in your wallet.

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with this setup.I have a Mac G5 with a toslink (optical digital) out.I went from an RCA HTIB system with an optical in (which was nothing but trouble!) to this, and the experience has been like night and day!I've had several Logitech products in the past and have always been very satisfied with them...in fact a Bluetooth headset was broken a week or so after I got it and they sent out a new, more expensive version the same day I called!Anyway...As my computer is my main entertainment center now, I finally made the step up to these...it was the best move I've made in a long while!

I have limited space but these speakers and subwoofer fit nicely. They sound 100 times better than my old speakers and I enjoy my music much more now. Certainly not concert hall quality but well worth the price!

Let's start off by saying this thing has a lot of power. Lots of bass, plenty of everything else. The controls are nice whether it be the remote, or the nice lcd display that looks nice sitting on the desk. The speakers seem to be pretty well-made, with the newer shipments allowing you to detach the speaker wires completely, and use your own length/brand speaker cable. This is a huge plus.However, I own an Audigy 2 ZS (has Dolby Digital 5.1/EX and DTS/DTS-ES/96-24 already) and in order to get the full surround sound working (via DVD or game) you need to disable the decoder in the sound card. This is very pesky! You need to get yourself a 3.5mm mono to female RCA adapted (3.99 at Radio Shack). Then use an RCA cable to hook up the speakers (controls are on back of control unit) to get the surround sound. Then, you need to adjust a few settings, one of them being "use digital output only" and set the control panel to stereo speakers (otherwise only center is being outputted through speakers and not surround sound). You can also use the 6 channel direct hookup and get great sound, but I don't believe it's the exact same as 5.1 or DTS. If you want your nice control module to display DOLBY DIGITAL or DTS logos, you need to use the hookup with that special adapter / RCA cable.Once this is working, the system is powerful, clean, good-looking, and easy to use. I do recommend it, except for the lack of clear instructions with the unit. They need more information in there.One more thing. This can be used as a home theatre system directly from a DVD player or XBOX, but please people, it's not the same as a full blown system. Yes it has the power, yes it has the features, but why would you ever want to watch a plasma or lcd tv with a high-end brand dvd player, and listen to Logitech speakers? They are a name in computers, let's leave it at that.Does this mean I still love the speakers for my PC? Yes. They are worth every penny for your system. But, save your money, and get a different starter brand for a full blown non-pc home theatre. There are ONKYO systems out there for not much more money, and the quality is far better (even their speakers I'm sure).I wanted to clarify these things after reading reviews and test results that were all over the place.Another plus was the item shipped so quickly, I could not believe it. I'm sure if you order on a Wednesday, you'll have it by the weekend. It also dropped 10.00 in price a few days after I purchased it, and Amazon is refunding me the 10 dollars. Where else would you want to buy besides Amazon? (oh and Newegg :)

These speakers are the first 5.1 speaker system i have bought. before, i had a stereo, and i connected to my PC, with PowerDVD and with Trusurround( a 5.1 simulation service with a 2.0 system), there were no complain at all, although i wanted to give it a try with true 5.1 system.I was checking on Internet for a 5.1 system not too expensive, in fact creative speakers are cheap,but the bad reviews made me change my mind. so i dicided to go on Logitech.i was about to buy the Logitech Z-640 6 Speaker Surround Sound System, the price is low (40 bucks!), but i checked the logitech web site, and there were new speakers, this speaker were just 10 more bucks than z-640, and the review i saw on: digitalreviews.netthat practically says that this speakers were comparable with the Logitech's higher end models such as the Z-5300 that cost more than 150 bucks, so i bought it.i have just tested yesterday, connecting with a dvd player, that has dolby digital decode built-in, maybe this kinds of dvd player has no good quality decoding, but the sound i heard yesterday was amazing, especially the subwoofer, it's like the theater sound really.Although the power is only 70 watts, and with peak of 140, the sound power were outstanding.I tested with, Return of the king, Das Boot, The impire strikes back, kill bill vol 2, and it's like to see a new complete different movie!.Imagine how it's gonna sound with my Audigy zs 2(thx certified), that i have just ordered from Amazon.Update()Well i have just set up my audigy zs 2 in my pc, and i was blown away, you can clearly notice the direction of the sound, i was watching kill bill vol 1, and for the fisrt time i was listening new sounds, i have never listened with my stereo system before.and the subwoofer is really unbelievable, you can turn the volume of every speaker off and up, and the subwoofer too.but in high volumnes the bass loses....there's also another problem with the sub, it mixes with the front speakers, so when there's voices in the front speakers, you can hear voices comming out from the sub. bad!After reading the bad reviews for these speakers, i must tell you that these sepakers are what you paid for.for music and games, the sound would be not so good(because of the lack of mid range), but for movies, o my god for 50.00 bucks you never find something similar, every night i watch the lord of the rings (the pallenor fields) in DTS with the audigy zs 2 sound card decoding, you hear voices, sounds(behind you) you'll never listened in an stereo system. it's amazing what you get for only 53 bucks.There's also a scene in Kill Bill Vol 1 when the bride wakes up after the coma, there's is a mosquito sound that makes you belive you have one behind you, i always show these for demostration of sorround sound to my firends, and i have a good time watching their reactions, amazing.i gave five stars because of quality - cost. you will never find something similar under 100 bucks.....if you don' like it, go to buy the Logitech Z-5500 ($300.00).So what's 250 bucks HE!!!!

For the money, this is a great system. No, it will not beat ultra high end speaker systems on clarity or range, but for 50 bucks, you can't go wrong. This is a great deal and I am very happy with this product.

The Logitech X-230 Slpeakers are a good investment. We use them for better sound for our bedroom TV/Video/DVD watching.Bass is incredibly crisp, deep, and clean. Highs are quite respectable. Overall a good choice for a secondary/computer sound system.

These speakers are wonderful. Pronounced bass, clear treble, and defined mid-range. At over five hundred watts they can certainly fill a room. They sound great over optical TOSLINK and connect via ordinary "clip" style speaker wire. Highly Recommended.

Las compre con las dudas de cuan fuerte y nitido podria ser su sonido pero creanme esto es sin duda alguna la mejor compra que he realizado en amazon, el sonido es increiblemente bueno y el peso es insignificante y facil de llevar gracias a su empaque portatil incluido en la caja, si tiene alguna duda olvidelo este producto es sencillamente espectacular.

I know reviews have been mixed, but... I love this little 5.1 system with my iPod. I was trying to find a system for the bedroom; something I could hide a speaker or two on/under nightstands, etc. Tried Klipsch computer spkrs for about $100, but I was missing the "bottom" I get from a simple Sony surround sound/DVD system in the bedroom, and I wanted something separate so I wouldn't be using the DVD system all the time (like leaving it on all night). Moved the Klipsch speakers to another location in the house, and like them fine now for music, news, etc.I was toying with spending 200-400 dollars on a more upscale spkr system, and was delighted to discover the Logitech. Have not had the subwoofer probs reported by others; don't need huge volumes in the BR at night to listen to music.That's my two cents. Loved this find. No worries connecting an iPod to the system, which translates the signal into 5.1, I'm assuming (or some pseudo version, but it works just fine).Enjoy!

Speakers have plenty of bass at low volume. They lose it when you turn it up, and the max volume of these speakers isn't anything crazy either. For a set of small desktop speakers I think they do great though.

I just took delivery of the Z-5500 a mere four days after ordering, even with super saver shipping -- nicely done, Amazon.The Good:- Solid construction. Speakers in this price range, in my experience, are often of somewhat suspect construction in terms of materials and assembly. No rough edges here at all, that I can see.- BIG bass. The subwoofer is nice and punchy, with no audible distortion even at high volumes (have not tried max volume; not sure my walls would hold up)- The console is very well done. Despite the relatively short cord to connect to the sub, I far prefer this setup than having to fiddle with settings on the sub box manually. The remote is also a very nice touch. Note also that all audio inputs (optical, coax, 3x 1/8" stereo) are on the console as well.- Sound clarity is very good, using the digital coax input. No hissing, noises, or other distractions.The bad:- RCA-style speaker wires. This makes initial setup a snap, but makes it a little annoying to extend the factory-provided wiring. The manual does note that using extensions is OK, as long as they are designed for speakers and not for line-level inputs. As awful as regular 2-strand speaker wire can be for connections, I'd love to be able to use this mountain of spare wire I have to do the extensions.- Somewhat muddy mid- and high-ranges. I guess this is about what you'd expect from full-range drivers on the satellite speakers, but I was fairly disappointed (based on my expectations after reading all these stellar reviews). There is also no ability to adjust output levels (other than bass) from the speaker console, so if you don't have an EQ on the source audio, there's not much you can do about it.- Limited volume control. If you listen to music at a low volume (say, while working at night), you'll find there isn't much room for fiddling at the low end of the volume control. One setting is too loud, the next "half-click" is far too soft. I've worked around this by using the computer's volume adjustment to make finer changes. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying for me personally.FWIW, I bought this setup to serve as my gaming audio, to replace my ancient Bose 301 bookshelf speakers and equally ancient 2-ch amplifier. Given that I paid as much for the two Bose speakers as this entire setup, I think the Z-5500 is a truly fantastic deal -- BUT, for anyone making a similar migration, do not expect the sound quality to quite measure up. Not sure why I did...maybe wishful thinking :)That said, these speakers blow away any other "all-in-one" surround setup I've seen at the price -- and even at higher prices.Overall rating is 4 of 5 stars -- the muddy mid and high notes cost it that fifth star in my book.

Logitech claims that these speakers will deliver dolby 5.1 surround sound when you hook them up with Xbox or PS2. Well, guess what? That's a blatant lie.I bought these speakers specifically to get surround sound from my Xbox. I set the Xbox's sound settings to dolby surround and I was already using the Xbox HD cable (which you need to output the surround sound signals from your Xbox). I then connected my Xbox to the speakers using the included game console adapter. I made sure that the games I used to test these speakers had surround sound in them. So, basically, I had everything set up right, but these speakers did not produce surround sound. I mean, sound came out of all the speakers, but you would never hear distinct sounds coming out of just the back speakers. In other words it would never sound like something's behind you. You only got stereo sound from these speakers. For example, in Halo 2 I threw a grenade and then turned around. I heard the grenade explode, but I didn't hear it behind me. I later found out why from Logitech.Logitech's customer is very incompetent. After numerous emails I finally got them to admit that the reason these speakers weren't producing surround sound is because they don't have a surround sound decoder, which is vital for producing surround sound.In other words, Logitech is downright lying to you when on the package for these speakers they write that these speakers are fully compatible with Xbox and PS2. Class action lawsuit anyone?

I previously had a 2.1 sound system for my computer, that were pretty good a few years ago when I bought them. When I decided to replace them with these I was rather happy with my choice. The sound is extremely clear and crisp, whether it be music or games, and I am very pleased with them. The only downside to them is how many extra cords there are behind my desk, but you have to expect that with a 5.1 sound system.

Fantastic speakers when they work. My Brother and i both have a pair, but they frequently drop out, powering off entirely. They also cause a lot of wireless interference if you have a wireless network around. It's a shame, because it's a marvelous sound for such a compact and affordable unit. Thought it might have been a lemon, but both sets have the exact same problems.

I've been using these speakers for two days and am really impressed at the sound quality that they produce. They really do have good bass but at higher volumes, it really vibrates the speakers and slides them around.The controls are easy to use and very well placed on the top of one of the speakers. There is an occasional "skip" in the sound based on them being USB connected but nothing that would make me say "these are junk"I definitely feel I got my moneys worth on these speakers and the carrying case is very cool and compact and fits great into my notebook back pack.Would give 5 stars except for the not so great sound at higher volumes. But for normal levels of listening, they are perfect!

I recently purchased this system (not from Amazon, but for an equally good price) and I must say, my expectations have been met, and exceeded! The Z-5500 is an attractive, powerful speaker setup, and is remarkably cheap considering the quality and options. The control center is aesthetically pleasing and very intuitive, much better than the Klipsch ProMedia offering.Pros:- Powerful- Relatively Cheap- Excellent Sound, especially for the price- Clear, crisp highs- Relatively clean, powerful subwoofer- Simple but efficient control system- Wonderful input selectionCons:- Midrange is a bit lacking, not the best for classical.- The satellites, while impressive for their size, lack the warmth and soundstage of better speakers- The subwoofer could be a bit tighter and less boomy.I tested these against my dad's old Boston bookshelf speakers (350$ bookshelves). In terms of warmth, midrange and soundstage, the Bostons were clearly superior. However, for highs, and crisp, accurate playback, I prefered the Logitech offering.Overall an excellent speaker system, made even more attractive to consumers because of the extremely low price tag.

When I purchased these speakers I hardly thought they would work, but for twenty bucks they are worth every penny. I'd recommend these to the penny pinchers of the world.

Quite amazing small 5.1 digital system. I'm very impressed with the clarity of the bass with blockbuster movies like "Lord of the Rings" or the musical scores in the Japanese Anime (DTS) "Ghost in the Shell." Especially the opening score where there's a ton of bass, but the bass is pounding and clear, no distortion. For the price, Logitech Z-5450 system really shines and is simple to set up and use. The subwoofer is small, stylish and very capable to produce low the end sound of movies and Hip Hop songs. As compared to other small systems out there (more expensive), this digtal system will beat or sound better.Highlights: Big sound from bass, easy set-up, wireless rear speakers (more later), good mids, not to shabby for treble either.Lowlights: Wireless rears are yes wireless, but you do have to plug them into an outlet for power...so you still have two wires to deal with. However, the sound is excellent. The remote is okay, should of been a little bit more detailed and styled better. Come on, Logitech is known for stylish designs...the remote is plain and goofy.Summary: Effective system for a small room with plenty of power and thumping bass. Does better than some other systems (Bose, Kplipsch)and the voice clarity is excellent. However, I do recommend that like with any system...the sound also depends on the DVD player that you use. A cheap player will give you great sound (I tried it), but a more expensive one (I use a Yamaha DVD player ~$300) sounds awesome. Then again, it might just be me.

These can't handle turning it up more than 50-60% without distortion.. but at lower volumes, enough for a medium sized room, they sound fantastic and are a good value for the money.

[...].The speakers are great! My Dell 710M laptop with XP/PRO recognized the speakers without a hitch. I have listened to all flavors of music...punk, reggae, classical, and rock. The speakers produce good sound quality. The audio control buttons on the right speaker are a nice touch, and the blue LED power light is really not that annoying.My speakers came with rubber feet, and rubber covers on the fold out stands. This prevents the speaker bouncing other reviewers have experienced.Buy them!
