First up as with my previous Logitech 5.1 system, the rear satellite cables are disappointingly short. Be prepared to buy some RCA extension cables if you want more flexibility in positioning the satellites. The next thing I noticed is that the X-540 is missing the individual front/rear/center/bass volume controls that my previous system had, having only a main and bass volume control. This isn't too big an issue as most sound drivers allow you to adjust the individual volumes from your PC, but it was nice to be able to adjust it without having to fiddle with software.Inputs - the X-540 only has 3.5mm inputs although an adapter is provided for RCA input - don't lose it! There is a headphone input on the control center, however a few issues with this - plugging in headphones immediately bypasses the amplifier, muting the speaker outputs and connecting your input straight to your headphones - meaning the volume control has no effect. Be careful you don't damage your expensive headphones this way! Since the headphone input is recessed, you may have trouble fitting a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter in there (I did) if your headphones require it.One of my biggest annoyances with this system like so many other electronics these days, turning it "off" doesn't actually turn it off. The power button on the control center really just acts like a big mute button. This is annoying due to a small hum/buzzing sound that the internal circuitry of the amplifier emits, so the only way to completely eliminate the hum is to unplug the speaker system from the utility power, not something I plan on doing (or should have to do for that matter).Complaints aside, I am very impressed with the sound quality and loudness from what are obviously marketed as value 5.1 speakers. Compared to my previous system, the Logitech G51, even though these are somewhat of a "downgrade", I am very pleased with them and for casual listening I haven't found any noticeable difference between the two systems quality-wise. For the price of some 2.1 systems you can get a very good 5.1, and although there are some issues I have, the price more than makes up for them.

The Z-5500 system is a huge improvement over most computer speakers systems. The sound separation and spaciality produced are worth the price. However, despite the impressive look and size of the bass speaker, it fails to reproduce the many varied nuances of bass instruments. Also, there is a fall off in the midrange area. However, the nice thing about this system is that the amp uses traditional speaker inputs, therefore, allowing a simple upgrade to superior speakers. I am not sure whether there is a filter which limits the midrange output to these satellite speakers (I think not because they do produce some midrange); therefore, the substitution of two of these satellites with a pair of high quality bookshelf speakers will do wonders. For this reason, I give a strong buy recommendation for the Z5500 system. I believe that it will satisfy nearly everyone but audiophiles. Although this system is not at the superior level of sound quality (nor the price) of a serious audio system such as a Denon AVR-2000 amp with Paradigm speakers, at least it is closer to that than nearly all other computer speaker systems.

The speaker on my laptop isn't loud enough to hear especially if I want my husband to hear something and he is sitting in a different room.I ordered the Logitech X-140 2.0 Speakers and I was really surprised when I plugged it into my computer.I knew it would have a louder sound but I sure wasn't expecting this great of a sound.There's no cracking or buzzing and the tone is perfect.My husband purchased the Logitech S150USB Speakers with digital sound for his laptop and he is very satisified with his also.We would recommend both brands if you are looking for some great speakers for your computer.They are both compact so they don't take up alot of room.Great speakers for a great price.

Bought this product and received it in 2 days. Hooked it up to my pc's soundcard, only to get a loud hum from the system. When the control pod is attached to the subwoofer i get a loud hum, when detached, nothing. I get no sound in optical, or coax when hooked up to my dvd player. This product cost me $400, and I did not receive my money's worth. Also, you can not return it to Amazon. I'm going to call Logitech, and see if they can help me. I can't give a more in depth review til I hear it working correctly. Maybe I received a reject. I'm about to find out.

I tried the Logitech X-140 speakers with my Chumby. I'm not an audiophile, by any definition, but the Chumby's internal speaker just does not cut it. While the sound from the X-140 was good when the Chumby was playing music, when it was not being used, there was a nasty ground loop hum that was loud enough that disqualified it from its role as my alarm clock (the hum would have kept me awake).Ground loop problems can often be blamed on the other device, but in this case, the Creative T10 that replaced the X-140 doesn't have this problem, nor did the speakers I was using with the Chumby before.

So, the sound: good to very good for the size. Not disappointed, in any event with that.USB convenient, especially since no power cord needed.OK, now, the real problem, and it's serious! These speakers are just not built well, certainly not for being portable. They have little kickstands, which is helpful. But one broke almost immediately, making it a pain to use. Very, very flimsy. Inexcusable, I'd say. The other thing is that the connection between speakers has been an issue for me, as the right speaker (which connects and disconnects from the left speaker only)goes out sometimes. Have to fiddle with the connection. Not major, but certainly another pain, and just not acceptable, again.One more gripe, too short of a cord. Way to short.Bottom line, they're not cheap, and though the sound is very good, I am searching yet again for new speakers, less than a year out. Thinking for sure wireless...

I bought four pairs of speakers and settled on these. I paid like 15 bucks for them, and they were well worth it. The sound is good till you turn them way up. I think your gonna get that with most speakers like these. The bass could be a little deeper but its not bad. I like that when I listen to music with vocals and instrumental, it is really clear. They are really nice for watching movies. I am happy, I would have been dissapointed if I would have paid the full price.

I bought these speakers based upon the reviews I read on Amazon. They were described as excellent low volume speakers with good quality and appearance. The quality and appearance are both very good, however, the sound quality is hardly better than the sub-ten dollar set of unamplified plastic boxes that typically come with a new computer from an independent builder. This was especially disappointing as I've come to expect Logitech products to be considerably better than mere price would indicate.These speakers simply are below par by anyone's measure. They sound tinny at any volume and are certain to leave the purchaser wondering what Logitech was thinking about when it decided they were worth marketing. Don't buy these. I have had sets for the same or lower prices from other manufactorers which far out-preform them. Look around.

This product is great for the price. Its perfect for dorm rooms and small rooms such as bedrooms. I live in military dorms and have it hooked up to my tv. The sound is good, in fact the guy next door knocked on my door and asked me to turn the bass down because it was vibrating in his room. Its a very crisp sounding system and I love it. Def. suggest it for anyone looking for an affordable surround sound system for a small room.

I bought these speakers for my desk top, and I have to say that they sound great or the very reasonable price that they were. There are many more expensive and better speakers out there, but for the casual listener they sound great and I would definitely recommend these speakers.

Good concept regarding how this speaker mounts on top of the open laptop. The actual engineering is poorly designed.The Speaker is held in place by a shallow clip in back. Because the clip is shallow, it slips off easily with any kind of movement. Since the front of the speaker is the heaviest, it always manages to fall on the keyboard.2nd flaw is the cable going into the speaker connects directly above the clip. So, every other time I end up bending the plug while trying to open the clip. Of course, this causes the wires inside to break and for the speakers to completely fail all together.I'm going to try the Logitech USB Laptop Speaker Z305 and see if it works better. Same "top mount" concept, but looks more solid and released 4 months after this one (and for the same price).

I did bought this set of Z-5500 they lasted 2 weeks.I tried to get an RMA from Logitech but they didn't bother to answer.Logitech Forums are dead and so the customer support.DONT BUY THIS, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.This speakers dont "Shake your House"...The SubWoofer sounds like trash, try "Heroes del Silencio - Entre dos tierras" and you will ear how they really sounds.The Control Pod turns off from time to time.At high volumes (75%) satellites sound DISTORTEDMost of the time when connected to a Playstation 3 you get "NO SIGNAL" in the control pod.This Speakers are only good for a Movie or a game... BUT they will fail and you wont be able to get a new set or your money back. Logitech SUCKS.Go get something from CREATIVE they WONT LET YOU DOWN!.

They sound and look fine, but the design of the cords doesn't make sense. The power cord is attached to one speaker, while the speaker cord to the computer is attached to the speaker. Really? Why would they assume that a computer doesn't have power near it, and put the power cord on the other end? Now i have two cables running across my desk instead of just one.

This is the first PC speaker system I've used where the cords are an issue. First the two speakers are permanently wired together so instead of threading the cable connecting the left and right speakers through the two cord holes in my desk top the thick connecting cable is strung across my desk. The power cord is on the left speaker and the hookup cable on the right speaker. All three cables are permanently wired to the speakers. With my desk configuration this makes for an unsightly appearance on the desk top. The sound is acceptable and what one should expect from speakers in this price price range. Separate bass and treble controls would have been nice and since I leave my speakers on all the time I don't see a need for the bright orange "on light".

I'd been looking for a laptop speaker like this for quite some time, since the one that I used to use Laptop Speakers - USB, Portable, Compact, Travel Speaker for PC and Mac - B-Flex 2 Hi-Fi Stereo USB Speaker (Black) did not work with my new Toshiba laptop for some reason. I purchased a set of HP USB Mini Speakers, but they were a pain to use - too many wires to keep track of, and the sound really wasn't that great either, so I found myself using headphones all the time, and really didn't like it.The Logitech speaker solved my problem for me, and I really do love them. The sound is excellent, there's really no set-up involved - you just plug them into the USB and you're ready to go. You can clip them onto the top of the computer, but, unlike my old Jlab speakers, they're more versatile than that. You can also just sit them to the side of your computer, pull them closer to you (as I do often if it's late at night, and I don't want to wake my tenants up), and position them wherever is best for you, really.The speaker also has controls on it, so you can control them either from your computer, or from the speaker, which is a nice added touch.I really can't think of a single thing negative about this speaker - I'm thrilled that I no longer have to use headphones, and the sound on the speakers is excellent - two of my brothers have also heard them, and agree with me about the sound, and the convenience, so it's not just my opinion.I highly, highly recommend this speaker to anyone who wants to be freed from headphones, without having to use cumbersome speakers with their laptop. You can't go wrong here!

I bought these specifically for the wall mount-ability of the speakers and they look great hanging up. The control dial is neat and provides easy headphone access. Nothing to complain about.

This is the second Logitech Z-5500 system I've bought. First set I purchased in 2006 and they still work great. Rich sound from all of the speakers and chest thumping bass from the sub.

This speaker sounds so much better than my 1 year old $50 speaker :DThe sound quality was far better than i expected.The only con I can think of is how much space it takes up, though that is mostly because I'm using a small computer table.

We have these speakers on our two flat-panel LCD TV's. They are plug-in speakers, and they have a one button sound quality adjustment (treble/bass). The features aren't many, but for the price, these are great speakers for TV listening. That is especially true for those programs and DVD's that have the soundtrack and the ambient noises louder than the conversations. With these speakers, you won't miss what the characters are saying. There are probably various ways to attach these speakers to a TV, but we have just plugged the mini into the headphone jack. If your TV doesn't have a jack you will probably need another cable to make them work on your TV. On the other hand, these are very good--and inexpensive--speakers for use with a tablet, laptop, or MP3 player of any kind.

I have been using the Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205 for about a month now, and I'm completely satisfied. OK, first of all, this external speaker unit is designed to increase the viewing and listening experience of a single user, not fill an entire room with a high quality audio experience. And, when it comes to filling that role this little unit does a fantastic job.OK, here's how you use it. This small stereo speaker unit has a spring-loaded click that allows it to acquire a firm grip on the top of any laptop computer. You then plug the USB cord into one of the computer's USB ports, push the power button on the speaker unit, and it's ready to go! There is also a volume adjustment on the top of the speaker. If you are watching something on your computer or you are listening to music while you work, then this little unit will serve you well.The unit is surprisingly small (about 1.5" tall x 5-6" long and maybe 3/4" deep). Even so, it produces a clear, pleasant sound quality for watching DVDs, etc., on your computer.The really nice thing about this unit is that it is truly small enough to take with you when you travel. I have taken external speakers with me before, and those tend to be bulky, there are lots of cords involved, and can be a bit of a pain! This small unit is not.So, if you are looking for an external speaker for your laptop, one that you will use solo, or perhaps with one other person or two at the most, then I highly recommend this little system.5 stars all the way...again, for what it was designed to do.

Logitech has discontinued the and replaced them with another model, but these have way, way better reviews (on Amazon and elsewhere). I went ahead and got these to use with my HTPC for surround sound in my living room, and they are fantastic. I'm definitely glad I got these, and wish Logitech was still producing them!

This system is fine if you are close to it, like the computer or video games, but for entertainment center use, it's just not as great as I was hoping. Sure, certain DVD's are louder, but some I've tried just are not as loud as I'd want with this system. I'd be better off hooking it up to my old component stereo system to get the loudness I want. I admit, the subwoofer puts out good bass, but the main speakers just don't have enough loudness.

The speakers are great quality--not super high quality, but rather good for the non-audiophiles. They are somewhat bulky, but definitely solid and of great manufacturing quality. The single USB power/data cable makes it easy to use and transport without the hassle for a power cable. The protective case is a nice extra touch.I would recommend this product to my friends and family.

I bought these speakers for my new Intel i7 920 PC that I just built. In combination with the Auzentech Forte, these speakers are simply amazing. This blows away my previous speaker system; Klipsch 2.1. Granted, this is totally different going from a 2.1 system to 5.1 but I'm amazed at the sound quality coming from these speakers. In a few forums, people were saying to me, get the Logitech Z5500 speakers; you won't be sorry. I'm g;ad I did. Listening to my songs from my ipod sound so crisp and clean. Playing my games, I'm amazed at the sound quality (Im hooked up with optical connection and Digital Effect. It sounds like your PC gaming system is sitting in the movie theatre with awesome sound! I have the volume on 4 bars, and it's loud. I have the subwoofer on 3 bars and I still feel the vibration.Packaging and Connecting: Logitech does a good job packing a 56 lbs. box. Yes, the box is over 50 lbs.! You get 5 (including the center speaker) good sized speakers which I would say that they are about the size of a cordless telephone charging base station (the one with the answer machine built on it). The cordless base is a little wider but not by much. The subwoofer is HUGE! It's about as wide as a sliding file cabinet goes back pretty far. All the wires and manuals come in a seperate box within the heavy box itself. Be aware, a lot of wires will be dangling from all 5 speakers which eventually get connected to the subwoofer. Pretty simple to set up. I've typed all the extra slack from each of the wires using plastic ties that were provided by my Cooler Master HAF932 case (and my power supply unit). The central unit that you can control the input, effect, settings ect. is sleek and big also. Don't let the picture fool you. It's a little bigger than a speaker. One simple connection from the main unit from the subwoofer as well as wich sound connection you are going with (TOSLINK, Optical, Analog ect) and you are off to the races. When turned on, the LCD display shows a nice blue color, as well as the power button. The remote control is a very nice touch and very responsive.My office/gameroom now sounds like a movie room with the help of these speakers! My games sound so much more crisp and enjoyable. Anyone looking for great speakers should invest in these. By the way, with the Auzentech Forte and the Z-5500 speakers, there is no crackling and/or popping sounds.Be warned, that if you don't get free shipping, you're gonna probably PAY big time for these since the weight I believe was about 57 lbs. I got this for $280 with free shipping and no tax (at the "egg"). Since Amazon charges tax now for New York State residents, I went elsewhere to buy these. I buy DVD's and other smaller items from Amazon though.

I understand that you get what you pay for but I expected a better product from logitech. I've purchased their speakers before and I found that, for the most part, they at least sounded decent. These sounded absolutely awful. No bass response at all - when the bass kicked in, the sound was totally distorted. I bought these from a chain retailer and ended up bringing them back right away.

Whoa!!! What a sound comes out of these speakers !!!Hooked 'em last night, plugged in the digital optical cable to my 55" HDTV, and watched AVATAR as I never heard it before -- the thundering whooshing of beating wings, the deafening blasts of bombs and machine gun fire -- it was an awsome emersion experience.What so surprising is that this speaker system puts out such awsome sounds at half the price of bigger systems. It is no wonder that used Z-5500 systems sell for so much. I've seem used ones on ebay that sold for almost the same price I paid new at Amazon.com.And if you don't have a digital output source, the system accepts analog input. The only thing that could be improved would be to make the system wireless. You also have to watch out you don't overdrive the speakers, as the volume will keep kicking up past the stop.

... and BUY THIS THING! Don't listen to these one star reviews. These speakers are well worth it! The bass (not underestimating, btw) goes HAAARRRDDDDDD!!! Anything you play (music, movies, etc) will pop, no matter what source it's coming from. At half volume, my room was rattling. Imagine it in boost mode (turn knob even more)! My neighbors will call the cops!If you're like me, and you've been looking at this system and reading constant reviews, don't settle for less (not even the Z-2300's). Buy these. I bought mine at CompUSA (on sale, instore for $250; one week before Christmas 2010).Also great for parties. Just sayin :D

My daughter is using these for her computer. Sound and quality of sound is great! Easy to set up and use. I do believe it was a good value for the money. My only issue, which is not big, is the directions don't explain at all what is needed for the plug in for a set of headphones. Thankfully I have two older sons that knew, but as a mom, was not "in the know". We're all good now!

I love the speaker the moment it arrived at my door step. Thank you to my housemate who help me set up the whole system. It took us less than 10 minutes to set it up (without including unboxing and taking all the components out of the box). Hook up to the TV via optical cable. Great sound and great surround. Hook up to PS3 and played Final Fantasy XIII. Amazing effect and surround. Highly recommend

Amazing sound and unbelievable clarity. I haven't even been able to test the full range of this since I live in a condo and my neighbors are *insert curse words* . The bass shakes your seat no matter what distance you sit at and I've only gone halfway with it.

Pros: 5.1 Surround, Sound Quality, Bass quality, PriceCons: Wired remote, length of cablesWell for the price you can't beat this system. 5.1 sound nice subwoofer all around great product. The sound quality far exceeded my expectations. Now you cant expect this system to fill a giant room but for an average size room its great. Bass really rumbles highs are clear and crisp. Only thing that was a little bit of an inconvenience was the speaker wires for the back speakers were not long enough. Would definitely recommend this system for anyone looking for great little surround sound package with BIG sound and a little budget. The remote is wired, which can be very annoying at times when the volume changes abruptly in the source and you have to get up to lower the speakers. Also, you cannot turn down the subwoofer individually. There is a bass dial, but it also turns down the bass in the other speakers. Awesome speaker system. Bottom line!P.S. This is a WELL DOCUMENTED and virtually admitted design flaw...they have known about this for A LONG time - yet Logitech REFUSES to honor their customer's loyalty. I have a serious problem with that - ESPECIALLY in this economy. I think I will post a YouTube video for all to see - specifically about the z-5500 issue. I hope it goes viral. I would encourage anyone who is interested in the Z-5500 audio system to reconsider and re-think before buying ANYTHING from Logitech if this is how they treat their customers. It is sad really, the Z-5500 WAS a GREAT SOUND SYSTEM - but with the design flaw, it is WORTHLESS. Stand up people, and let your voice be heard. Logitech is being completely UNETHICAL, by admitting - but not fixing, their flaw.

I've had these speakers since 2006 and it has been one of my best purchases since. I've never had any hiccups with my stereo, even after constant traveling back and forth from college. They sound awesome and they can go really loud too... and god do I love the sub. By no means will this replace the higher end home theaters, but there is no better speaker set for the price. I use my set mostly for gaming, from the laptop to play music and movies, and basic cable. I feel it shines most when I'm playing games, but it's good in all settings. Definitely a good investment since the price hasn't changed much since I've bought it.

Evident quality in look and feel. though I do miss the older gen. metal stands however these plastic ones seem fairly robust and swivel nicely for wall mounting. the controller is a little large but well designed and constructed. The number of settings are adequate and cover all the bases. not to mention getting to and selecting them is easy. color coded cords make setup a 5 minute cinch. no software (I like)Highs: very good,watched opening to Saving Private Ryan, heard new bullet "tings"Mids: good, there seems to be a small gap or thin spot toward the lower end. the sub tries to pick it up but not quite. may just be me tho..Bass: excellent, got the system to halfway and two posters fell off the wall :DThis system is perfect for computer or gaming console setups, also sounds better than my Samsung theater-in-a-box. Won't replace most component receiver type setups but you can find it for $350-$400

I have owned my Logitech V10 speakers since 2006, had them attached to my Notebook and recently attached them to my Desktop. These speakers are very efficient, with nice sound particularly when listening to the spoken word. The speakers are adequate enough for music. These speakers are easy to connect and definitely take up MINIMAL space in the work area. If I have one concern it is the fact the V10 lacks an 'on/off' switch. But that is a small problem for a generally good item manufactured by Logitech.

They look a little big and clunky on my desk, not bad, but not as sleek as i'd like. But I love the audio in/headphones out... both of which I use from time to time in my office.

I have had these speakers for over 1 yr and yes they still work, BUT they are not appropriate for listening to any music via computer. There is a lot of noise and distortion on music. Better to go with something else than this. If you are just watching videos or need the speakers for the computer for YouTube you would probably be fine. But for music, not really. I recently bought a pair of portable speakers made by Bose at BJ's Wholesale for $ 69.99 ( because I was so unhappy with the Logitech speakers) and they are just on a whole new / higher level of clarity. The LogicTech speakers were also limiting because they go into the USB port on the computer. The Bose speakers go into the headphone port or even into the jack on the iTouch. So, sticking with a review on THIS product.......I would say, try something just a little more expensive and you will be happier when listening to music.

I bought my Logitech Z-5500 back in 2005 and it is still going strong now in 2011. I love the sound quality and the build. It has survived 5 years of move in and out of college and is now a great setup for a grad student on a budget for their tv surround system. I could not be happier with this speaker system. It is perfect for use with a computer and a decent setup for a tv. It has the power to reproduce great bass for action movies and techno and yet produces crisp highs for classical music. A great buy all around.

Logitech V20 Notebook Speakers (Black)Usually these speakers have good sound quality.It's possible to get a bad set sometimes.The second time I did get some defected ones but the seller was kind and just getting started in her new business.So I'm merciful because she's providing good service and a no hassle return.I will buy from them again.These came from FORT WORTH ANTIQUES BOOKS AND MORE.
