There wasn't a better set of speakers for the price I paid for them back in 2010. Truly excellent sound on games, movies, music... Anyway, I had these speakers for a little under 2 years before the control pod died. I called Logitech and they had me send in just the control pod. A week later I received a brand new set of Z906s and a notice that they no longer manufactured the Z-5500s. Let me repeat that, they let me keep my Z-5500s without the control pod and sent me a BRAND NEW set of Z906s. So now I have two nice sets of Logitech THX certified speakers. I will be tossing handfuls of cash their way in the future. Truly impressed by the service. Now I just need to find a way to use my 5500s.

I got this set of speakers in late 2007, and here we are in late 2012 and they are still functioning perfectly, which is extremely pleasing. These caught my eye in 2007 by virtue of having onboard Dolby processing, as well as optical hookups. At the time there were relatively few speaker sets short of full-bore home theater systems that could not only accept optical, but decode Dolby signals onboard. Since I was very tired of dealing with the triple set of audio jack cables computer buffs will be familiar with, I leapt at the chance to get rid of them, and get the benefit of native surround sound from DVDs and the like.Since then they've been used for gaming, DVDs, streaming video, and a wide variety of music genres and performed very admirably. The only 2 complaints I could make are: First, that the cable linking the control console to the integrated amp/subwoofer is on the short side, making positioning those two components somewhat of a pain. Second, it would have been nice to have full surround sound speaker adjustments on the unit itself. As it stands you can only adjust the Center channel, which is helpful, but being able to fine tune all of them independent of the sound card/media player(s) would be helpful.

I bought these speakers to replace old speakers (which cost around 30 dollars) whose wires started to lose contact. I was looking for replacement speakers without subwoofers as I live in a studio. This is my impression of these speakers:Good-They are relatively inexpensive. At under 30 dollars, it is hard to be too critical.-The wires are strong, which I appreciate. Sometimes speaker wires are so flimsy that after a few months usage, you lose a right or left speaker inexplicably. Then you have to jiggle the cord to get it back. I really hate that. This speaker looks good in that aspect as the wires are thick.- Good inputs in the front. Auxiliary and headphone jack so you don't have to unplug from your laptop or desktop.-Straight regular plug in. There is no adapter or at least it is within the speaker. But I am not an expert.Bad-This is my crucial complaint: The speakers are very very big for desktop speakers. The height is as tall as my laptop. They are unnecessarily large for 5 watt speakers when the entire point of desktop speakers is to minimize space nowadays. Read carefully the dimensions and draw them out on your desk before purchase. Don't let yourself be surprised like I was. At this size, I would expect my speakers to be at least 8 watts or more.-So you would think with big speakers, they would be loud -- but the sound quality is very poor. The bass sounds very manufactured and the highs have no quality to it. Trust me I am no audiophile but the sound is very much to be desired. With that said, I am actually returning the speakers to amazon, something which I hate doing since Amazon charges me for it, and I have to go to the post office. Anything I return I give a 2 star or less, and in my entire Amazon life, I've only returned 3 items. Conclusion: Make sure you understand the size of the speakers and expect below average sound quality. The two cone speaker setup is more a gimmick to make you think they are loud. At the end, they are only 5 watt speakers. Otherwise, go ahead and purchase. The price is rather competitive.

These speakers are great! I have them mounted on the wall over my bed and the subwoofer is behind my bed. I wasn't really looking for surround sound quality speakers, I just wanted some decent speakers that sounded good, looked cool, and speakers that I could mount on the wall. The Z553 got the job done. I highly recommend these speakers for computers or if you're just wanting some decent speakers to plug your iPod up to. If you're wanting some speakers for your tv I would probably go with something different. They sound great and can get fairly loud but the subwoofer isn't as punchy and deep. If you're wanting a 2.1 speaker system for a tv I would go with the z623. But, the z623 can't be wall mounted. I hope this review helps!

The Logitech Z553 is a definite upgrade over basic laptop speakers. The volume can go much louder and has a fuller sound. That said Logitech also shows pictures of the speakers being hooked up to your television which my main incentive in trying these but in this area they fall short. While they will provide a 'boost' over you television's built in speakers there are better audio solutions out there. For a home audio speaker setup these don't provide a dynamic range. The only thing you can adjust besides volume is a bass knob--not much in the way of finessing. The design is also a problem. The speakers have metal feet or bases which will scratch the surface they are resting on. For whatever reason the cables are all a bright orange which makes them stand out when I'm trying to hide all the cables and clutter I already have. The power on and volume adjustment is it's own hockey puck style piece of hardware...yet another piece of clutter. The visual mess this creates is not worth the minor upgrade in sound. If you're really looking to upgrade your television home audio check out something from one of major audio companies. For improved laptop sound this seems like overkill but maybe for gamers this would be nice. For my use which would have been with the television I cannot recommend this solution.

I don't know what it is about all these people marketing speakers out there on the market.I purchased these because they break down the RMS Watts for each of the speakers to: 70 Watts RMS total system power (7.4 watts x 4, plus 15.5-watt center speaker and 25-watt subwoofer)This is one of the things that sold me on these speakers and the fact that their made by Logitech which they stand behind their products better than most people would believe. For example I got a Keyboard / mouse combo about 10 years ago and they keep replacing it when I call support. Many speakers put a Peak (PMPO) power output rating on speakers which is blown way out of proportion. Many speakers state they are 400, 500 or 1000 watts peak which lasts for 1/1000 of a second and no one can hear that. So those ratings are garbage information and I refuse to buy speakers with those numbers. It's like they are hiding the truth. Others give the total watts which mean nothing to me also since I need to know the break down of each speakers output to get a better idea.

I bought these speakers a few weeks ago at Target, mostly as an impulse buy. I knew they were 5 watt speakers, but what sold me more was the design. It's hard to find a decent, relatively inexpensive set of speakers that also look aesthetically pleasing, but these are all of the above. They are rather large though, but if you have the space, it shouldn't be that big a deal. I like that the power brick seems to be inside on of the speakers, so it only takes up one slot on my power strip. The input/outputs on the actual speakers themselves are also very nice. I can plug in my iPod and also plug in some headphones without having to unplug from my laptop. However, I did notice a bit of static when I plugged my headphones straight into them, something that wouldn't happen when plugged directly into the laptop. There are also a lot of cords, and all of them are hardwired into the speakers (aka permanently attached to each other). The only cable that I appreciate being long is the audio cable, which I estimate is about 6 or 7 feet long.As far as the sound quality, it's exceptional. When I play high quality audio through them, I never hear any crackle or distortion, but I also rarely ever put them past halfway. I personally don't need the loud factor, but I will say that it sounds more static-y when turned up high. So for my uses, they are fine, but if you want these to be loud, I'd recommend forking over some extra money for some more powerful speakers.SummaryPros:-Great, Modern Design-Inexpensive-Volume and "Tone" Knobs-Audio input/output-6' Audio Cable-No power brickCons:-Excess amount of cables-Take up space-Static/Distortion at higher volumeBasically, if you're looking for some good looking computer speakers, these should suit your needs just fine. However, if you want more than just that, these are probably not for you. I for one am content with my purchase, they are much better than the internal speakers in my laptop.

While it is obvious that these speakers cannot hang with high end speakers, they are PERFECT portable computer speakers for many reasons. The price can seem somewhat steep considering you get speakers for the same price that include a much bigger set up, but I personally enjoy using these a lot. They just sound great, and they look great as well, not as small as say, Bose® Computer MusicMonitor® -- Silver, they are much better and are not hideously overpriced like those gyp speakers are. Here are the reasons why these speakers are great (using some of the attributes guide).Ease of Use: If you stress over wires or baffling hook-ups, these are so easy to use a young child could almost figure them out. You don't need to hook them up to the computer aside from plugging them into the USB port. That's all that's needed aside from some installing (software wise)! To hook one speaker to the other, all you need to do is plug the right into the left, or vice-versa depending which side you plug in the USB. Controls are very simple as well. I was able to use my Macbook volume control to adjust the volume.Sound Quality: For one, the loudness of these speakers are great. I live in a dorm, and the sound at my computer's half volume easily filled the room. They pack a big punch for it's size, and if you aren't that big of an audiophile, then these are probably the speakers you are looking for. They do lack in bass, but for those who sometimes find bass distracting in things that don't require it, the minimal bass will work to a tee. Most of all though, they have the power needed to be useful, and quite frankly, that's what gives these speakers such a forceful impact. They pack a full bodied sound needed with a good set of speakers to handle many situations, and that's one thing they do extremely well.Features: Of course many speakers aren't going to be featured loaded, but besides ease of use, they have some interesting features. The left speaker let's you adjust the volume level or mute it. It also let's you skip through songs, and it also let's you pause the music, as well as stopping the music. I used it on iTunes and it worked like a charm. While not a feature of the speaker itself, the sturdy travel case works as both protecting the speakers and making the speakers easy to carry with little hassle with a little space.Design: Another big selling point is the design, which is excellent. Aside from having some convenient features and being EXTREMELY easy to set up, they are constructed ruggedly, and they look great, as well as being designed with dimensions in mind. They are durable and are not made of plastic, and the front is covered by strong and hard mesh. There is a total of two wires to the whole thing, which makes the design very simple. It does not need batteries, and it does not drain them very much. I personally find them aesthetically pleasing, and very convenient. They are not very wide, they are moderately tall, they look nice, etc. I think it just takes some handling of them and you will be very much convinced. When it comes to quick convenient speakers that don't requite power and are extremely portable, and if you are looking for big sound in a small package and want sound that packs a punch, then consider purchasing these, and you won't regret it. If you are looking for great powerful speakers in such a small package to replace the speakers in your laptop (which are almost always awful, but you know that already), then consider purchasing these speakers. The list price is a bit high, but at this price I think it's even better.

Lots of the positive reviews mention that the bass is powerful. On my unit, it is definitely TOO powerful. Even with the adjustment knob turned all the way down and the subwoofer swaddled in towels, the bass overpowers the dialogue. In addition, too high frequencies were mixed to the subwoofer, so that some of the midrange comes from the subwoofer instead of the satellites -> no directionality for those sounds! Plus it is impossible to turn the speakers up any amount without worrying that the neighbors (apartment below and next door) will come complain. (of course, one reviewer seemed really excited that the neighbors came 8 times and yelled at him to turn down the bass...)Maybe the bass adjustment knob on my sub was just miscalibrated or something, but there's simply no way for me to get satisfactory sound from these speakers, for either movies or music.I've worked a lot with music production so I may have a bit of a sensitive ear for balance, but my gf has not and agrees that the bass is way too loud to be able to enjoy the rest of the music.A couple of the screens covering the satellite speakers also came with small rips in them. The screens are very fragile.

The Good: Digital inputs, many features. Optical, coaxial in, extremely loud. The large array of inputs and easy setup is the main attractive feature of this set and should not be looked down on by the casual user. However, all of these various bells and whistles add up to something: cost. Since these are so costly, obviously, a lot of the add-ons like optical/digital inputs (which are completely unnecessary for you if you have a decent sound card in your computer, as digital input will actually downgrade your sound if you do, because the DAC's in the control pod of the Z-5500's will be inferior to the ones in your sound card... better to go with analog in that case.)For a casual user with a few things that they want to easily switch back and forth with, these are excellent and top of their game. For music listeners or people who use their computer as a main source of entertainment, they should re-consider with Edifier S550's (if available) or an older-upgraded Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1The Bad: Lack of a tweeter (makes for a so-so high end), midrange is nearly non-existent. Bass is one-noted and boomy, not very tight at all. At low volumes, bass struggles to be put out. Speakers are difficult to wall-mount. A bit of a disconnect between the speakers and the subwoofer. Speakers only rated at 12w power with a 25w peak.Don't be fooled by the wattage specs on these guys. They state the satellites are able to put out around 60-70 watts, but, the official documentations on the Tangband mid-range drivers incorporated in the satellites specifically states they have a rated output of 12w with 25w as their peak. Also, if you listen to music that isn't bass heavy and have a careful ear, you'll hear a lot of holes in music, especially if you've heard high quality Klipsch, Bose, Edifier, etc. systems. The subwoofer is definitely loud. No denying that. It rattles everything. However, if you really care for music, you'll notice that it is really one-noted, only making a repeated booming sound with no real significant definition. The mid-range is almost nonexistent. An audio friend of mine ran a frequency test on these and they cut out the heart of the mid-range. There is no tweeter on these either, so, they lack good highs. The bass is so loud and boomy compared to the satellites that it can drown out music and vocals (which are already lacking in the Z-5500's.)The mid-range is the weakest point. It's very poorly defined. The 3" midrange driver struggles with it, and there is no tweeter either even at such a high priced object, which is disappointing. If you are a casual user of computer/media, then these are fine for you. I doubt you'll notice or care that much, but, really, the older Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 set dominates these in all areas of sound frequency. Too bad the amp's bite the dust (though, you can fix this permanently/cool the system). There are other issues, such as the control pod going out on the Z-5500's, however, these are detailed more in-depth in other reviews. Honestly, for the price that these guys are at now, just get a cheap receiver or home theater setup. You can use one on your PC as well, if so inclined. The Z-5500's were priced at around $180-$220 at one point. About 3 years ago in fact, when I bought my Z-2300's. I wish I went for the Z-5500's back then, now, they're just extremely overpriced. Not worth what you're paying for, in my opinion.

I needed new speakers for my computer because the sixth set we got in less than a year went out again. They get moved around a lot so the cords get shorts in them quickly. I wanted a better quality set for around the same price. After doing some comparison shopping I purchased this set, and need I say again, WOW. These are NOT going to get shorts in them easily. The cords are very thick. They are very long aswell which makes it easy to spread out. The speakers themselves are very sturdy, heavy, and much larger than I expected. I should have looked at the measurements. It was a nice surprise though because it makes for excellent sound. Sound quality is awesome! Great volume too, and no annoying hissng with the volume up :) Real great product. Came quick and packaged well.

These speakers have a stylish and modern design, but that only goes so far. The red cables might be a bit obtrusive in some settings, but that is up to personal taste. I find them to be a nice looking, and I don't mind the red backing and cables. The cables are long enough to accommodate larger desks, so you will not have a problem positioning the speakers and the cables are heavy enough that you won't have to worry about them being damaged easily. These speakers are really a lot better than I initially thought and the volume is more than adequate. I originally believed that they did not have much output, but the problem was with the cable that I used to connect them. I replaced the cable and things got a lot better. I would actually recommend these speakers for anyone who doesn't want to spend a ton on speakers for their computer, but doesn't mind a mid-priced option. It is nice to have a separate volume control that can be placed close to your keyboard, but this is also a minor concern, as you could simply turn your speakers all the way up and control the volume from your computer. There is also a bass control on the volume control unit that allows you to adjust the output at your will.Bottom line: 4/5 starsRecommended

You can read other reviews about sound and everything else, but I came to write about its durability and reliability. Its Durable. Very Durable. I have had this system (and all 6 speakers) annoying neighbors in two different dorm rooms, three different houses and now two different apartments over the last six years. The condition of these houses were "college houses" so you can estimate the amount of wear and use this has had. What has amazed me the most is the control unit. Albeit short, The control unit has been stepped on ~250 times from being left on the floor (this issue did not resolve after moving it onto the desk, either. See: College House) and has been turned all the way up more than a few times. My only complaint is that the rear speaker's cables are a bit too short, which is why I came on Amazon in the first place, to get extensions (link below) Also thanks for wasting my money on an "extended warranty". Completely un-needed with these tough speakers.TL:DR Durable speakers that stood the test of time through the worst conditions and are still working today. I Purchased these speakers as a going away to college present for myself on the first day of college 6 years ago. These speakers have been the best speaker purchase I have made. Not only for the sound quality, cheaper price, but also the portability and sustainability. Making the transition to 5.1 was a great decision not only for the 5 main speakers but also the subwoofer. While a fancy subwoofer for an expensive entertainment system can be double if not way more pricey than just this system total, it's hard to find cheap 5.1 systems that have this good of sound quality.Uses: for years this was my dorm/home/apartment entertainment/computer/console game/music playing experience system. Also a big selling point I would pass on to other people is that, This system is easy to move and I still use them today with no blown speakers and no broken pieces. They have been through energy drinks poured on them, dropped down the stairs, wires pinched against the walls for years and yet through all the wear-and-tear this still has the same sound quality out of the box, and I couldn't be happier with logitech's product. The only thing I wish I could change with this set in particular is the corded control pod. The weight of the cord is heavier than the pod itself, so even with the rubber stoppers on the bottom of the pod it slides off of any surface and gets dragged to the floor. Also there is no ability to extend the distance the pod reaches.Other than that, and coupled with my non-existant ability to turn a rat's nest of cords into a well hidden and organized layout, I love this system and when this system dies (hopefully not soon) I will definately buy logitech again.

My new laptop speakers were no good (are they ever?)because the were aimed straight up and my netbook speakers were on the underside of the device and were literally the size of nickels. I wanted an upgrade in speakers, but nothing elaborate. I got this speaker bar for a slight discount on the manufacturer's web site, and have been pretty happy with them. On my 17" laptop, the soft but sturdy mounting clip fits exactly between the camera and the lid padding 'nub'. It doesn't move around or come loose, so I leave it on all the time (this laptop doesn't leave the house, or ever get closed - closing the lid with this bar on is a 'no-no').The controls are easy to access on top, with a green-lighted power button flanked on either side by volume up/down buttons. The whole deal runs off of a single USB which is a blessing and a curse. The single cord cuts down on clutter, but if you are light on USB ports, there's one down right there. I have not tried using these through a USB hub, though that may work for you. The cord itself is pretty short. It is a bit of a stretch on my 17" even when its mounted off center on the monitor frame as close to the USB port as possible. But it works. The sound is crisp and clear. Just due to the design of the speakers, you won't be getting much bottom end out of these things. That said, the sound is good if you don't expect Boston Acoustics or Polk-quality. It's like your laptop speakers on steroids. Part of that impression is due to the fact that the speakers are aimed right at your head as opposed to some wonky direction like they are from the factory. They also can get pretty loud without much distortion.I like them, honestly. They are unobtrusive and sound good enough for my music to sound good to me. For the price paid, they aren't bad. But for a better aural experience you will need to look elsewhere and open your wallet a bit wider.Hope this was somewhat helpful.

First of all, I have to say that you get what you pay for. I bought this speaker to be used for my laptop for only $11 in another store. Pretty much as soon as I got it home the piece that plugs from the cord into the speaker itself bent. The design is just horrible. Maybe they've updated it since I purchased this a year or so ago (if it's even been that long!)I managed to bend it back and it worked for a while, but soon the wires got so messed up inside that I could not even unplug the cord from the speaker without it pulling out of the metal casing.Needless to say, ever since I bought this product I've simply been waiting for it to quit working altogether. Today is that day.Oh, and half the time my computer won't even recognize the device.Spend your money elsewhere. Logitech seems to have gone down hill (the laptop speaker/fan system died on me in under a year as well!)To add: The speaker quality itself is fine, but it's not worth the poor quality.

I've bought the little tiny globe USB speakers: Pretty good, but not that loud and variable in how loud each was. They also started to die faster and lose battery life. I chained them together, but then they were kind of awkward and still not very loud. Then I bought a pair of 10 dollar speakers: AAAACK the electronic HUMMMMMING noise. These also didn't pass my "has to be able to be louder than one of those musical cards my mother-in-law gets my son" test. Then I bought this. Now my husband and I keep stealing it away from each other, so I'll probably have to get another. He likes it in the kitchen on the cheap flat TV monitor thingy that has crummy speakers. This easily wins out over running water and oven vent. I like it to replace my laptop, whose speakers sadly also do not pass the musical card test.I would buy another and probably will be doing so in the future.

This System does exactly what i wanted it to do, for around $100 it decodes Dolby Pro Logic II from the TV Box, (comcast boxes in the Audio Setup Menu using MATRIX type and High Compression, High is 5.1, medium is 4.0, low is probably 2.1 or 3.0 of some sort) and it successfully decodes it, the reason is basic it Dolby uses a Standard for separating multiple audio channels and stuffs them into just 2 rca cables and pads them so there's no cross over issues. Obviously its compressed in a way that makes sense, but its not fully range, so your music wouldnt be as crisp but your movies will give you a great range for 5.1. And its super low wattage basically cut my electricity bill in half since now i dont need my HTPC on all day just to watch regular tv to power the speakers.I will tell you tho, there is no Audio switch for multiple sources, it simply accepts 1 source at a time, and a Comcast box will cause static. so if your looking for an all in one, unfortunately there isnt one YET, under $300, so get a cheap $150 system + $50 speaker set if your looking for 1 for tv, 1 for htpc. The Quality of these speakers so far is unmatched by any set of 5.1 pc speakers i've owned, so make no mistake these are Home Theater quality speakers.

I bought these used, everything is in excellent condition and the sound is amazing, there are 5 input options for effects (Dolby Pro Logic 2 Movie, Dolby Pro Logic 2 Music, 6 Channel Direct, Stereo, Stereo X2) which gives lots of variations for sound and these also have different input connection choices (optical and coax which cables are not included). My only problem is that you need to connect all 3 input cables to get the 'full' sound on 6 Channel Direct, which is the loudest mode and my computer only has 2.Did some research and these the cable that I needed to be able to hook all speakers simultanously. The sound from these speakers is amazing considering their price, and that's the main reason for selecting a loudspeaker. If you want perhaps slightly better sound with pretty much everything else being equal (except price and obviously the color), take a look at the JBL Duet Speaker System for Portable Music and PC - Aluminum (Pair). I also have these and do like them a little better, but they were almost twice the price. In the under fifty dollar range for an amplified, sub-compact, near-field, two-channel studio monitor (which is basically what a pair of PC speakers are) you're going to have to sacrifice some clarity and/or frequency response. Especially if you don't want to add a matched sub to make up for the low end. Just accept it: in today's market no company sells a loudspeaker that is full range, high sensitivity, low distortion, amplified, desktop-sized, has a 2-4 foot sweet spot AND costs under fifty bucks!A few other things you might want to know about these include: 1) the power, right-to-left connection and audio input cords are all permanently affixed (you cannot unplug them or extend the right-to-left connector); 2) the tone control knob is backwards, i.e. you turn it clockwise to go down rather than up--the latter is more typical--and it has no detent for middle/flat; 3) you cannot "mix" two sources using the audio input cord on the back and the jack on the front--if you have sources connected to both simultaneously, you get no sound (incidentally if you need to run two sources to them simultaneously you can do it with the Rolls Stereo 4 Channel 1/4IN & 1/8 in Mixer Passive - Rolls MX41B); 4) you cannot adjust the tilt of the speakers (without using your own shims underneath them or some other kludge) and they can't be hung or wall-mounted; and 5) the grilles are not removable (they're also metal, not fabric, in case you were wondering).Bottom line is, you can't beat them for the price. If you need better sound at a higher or lower volume at this price you're going to have to use headphones.

This is a decent product for the money. As I expected, the bass is nearly non-existent, with decent mids and highs. Overall, the speaker volume is more than enough for a computer, and can used audibly in a living room.My one problem with this product is the packaging. The speakers loosely fit in a shipping box with nothing to protect it. The backs of them were against each other, and got banged up pretty bad. This really isn't the condition I want new speakers in. If I buy something new, I would like it to look new. It made me think that these speakers just fell of the back of a truck.I have only had the speakers for a week, so the true test of time is unknown. I will update my post if anything changes.

A decent USB powered speaker unit. It does provide a lot of bang for your buck. Works great with laptops, and if your like me have a desktop workstation that needs a little extra for hearable audio, then this unit is exactly what your looking for. Now keep in mind it's not going to blow you away, but it definitely is an improvement over any builtin speakers. My only criticism of this device, would be in the back it offers an audio input, but without USB power, the speakers won't work. I wanted to use it as an external speaker for my iPhone, but without a USB power source, the speakers wouldn't play.

I have these set up at a computer/entertainment station - primarily used for videogames, iTunes, the occasional BluRay, and at this point I'm pretty pleased with them. I've been using them for a couple of weeks. For me, size is of the essence. I don't have a lot of space to work with, and these little speakers pack a fair amount of punch into their small space. Now, they don't compete with the surround sound I have in my living room. Bass is shallow by comparison. But it has much more range than the less expensive speakers I was using or certainly than the central speaker that comes built-in to the system. It does a particularly good job with voices, adding a lot of clarity to my movies. It doesn't produce the deep visceral bass I like with music, but still offers a pretty good listening experience overall. This is a less of a factor for me, but I also find them attractive. Their design is a bit of a talking point, and I happen to like the red cord - a pop of color. For me, it's a good compromise - but I'll be hooking the iPod up in the living room when I want to entertain.

I have a Toshiba Thrive table with the usual tiny poor speakers. This device works great, not room filling, it's no 'boom box', but I think plenty loud enough. My tablet does not use the USB audio source, just supplies the power. It means one more cable (1/8" male stereo audio at each end, not supplied, bought a 3 ft 'er at Radio Shack), no big deal. The clamp system attaches to the top or side of my Thrive or it sits well on the desk. And it's thin by comparison only about 1-1/4", fits in my tablet carrying bag easily. I recommend this speaker system.

Working at home with my laptop, I really wanted some speakers so I could listen to Pandora without headphones. And my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite, has less-than-desirable sound output like most laptops do. I didn't need anything exceptional, I just wanted some speakers that could produce enough sound with clarity so I could enjoy music while I work. And the Logitech X-140 more than do the trick. Straight out of the box, I couldn't help but notice their fairly significant height (about 10" tall). But sitting next to my external monitor, they blend in nicely, so it's not as if their size is an issue. As for the sound, I am incredibly impressed. The manual suggests that when setting up your speakers, you set your computer speakers to about 67%, and then control your volume preference with the volume dial on the speakers themselves. With the speakers sitting on my desk next to my monitor, anything over about 35% on the speaker's dial is loud. Certainly louder than I want to hear while I'm working. Over 50% and you will hear them well beyond the confines of the room in which they sit. Just for the sake of testing, I turned the speakers' volume dial up to about 75% just to see how they maintained their clarity while songs were playing over Pandora. I was especially curious about this because some of the reviews that I read here and on CNET about buzzing and/or choppiness. And I got none of that. Absolute crystal clarity. Miles Davis was playing and, with the volume up to 75%, I could hear every note, with not a hint of buzzing, chopping, crackling, or anything like that. Perhaps there are some quality control issues, so a few people are getting some lemons. That's my only guess, because these things sound fantastic. I honestly can't imagine getting a better sound for the price.Plus, one other nice factor is the tone dial, which allows you to shape the tone a little. The tone shaping, however, is not dramatic. You're not going to be able to ramp up the bass all that much using the tone control, but I think that for computer speakers which typically leave quite a bit to be desired on the bass end, these more than deliver on that front. The auxiliary jack so I can plug my iPod directly into the speakers is a very nice feature. There's also a headphone jack, which I wouldn't really use, since I'd either plug my headphones directly into the laptop or my iPod but, perhaps for some, that's a nice addition. All in all, I'm very impressed. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again, or recommend them.

Replaced my worn out Klipsch 5.1 system. Logitech has a sound... You either like it, or you don't. I like it, but know that it is far from audiofile sound. The system works great. the little dongle remote thing is odd, but puts volume where I need it. The speaks mout easily. I like the center mount front speak. The bass is woof woof, but nothing window shaking. It works and can easily overpower the speaks.I sit really close to all the speakers so I am immersed in Logitech sound... Hehe. It does the job. You can get used to it. I like that it is pretty loud where I am, but one room away, if the woof woof isn't turned too high, it isn't loud at all.I gave it 4 stars simply because of the Logitech sound. That's just me. I never hear anyone else talking about, "Logitech sound"... Everything else about the system is 5 stars. I'm listening to some Black Uhuru right now pretty loud and it sounds good.

Length:: 0:09 MinsYou'll notice in the video how much sound (air) this speaker can put out. More than enough to blow this envelope when it hits the bass tones :)The weird vibration in the videos audio is from my desk vibrating because it is so cranked up (loud). For a long time I thought the speaker was buzzing until I realized it was the back wood panel of my desk. For a computer speaker system, I have yet to find a comparably priced setup that sounds anywhere close to as good as this does.Critique: My computer doesn't always use all of the speakers. It just depends on the song and how it was recorded.

Got these as cheap audio monitors for some in-office training videos I am doing. I didn't want anything with a lot bass that would "rattle" co-workers in nearby offices. These fit the bill. Plenty more volume than I need in my office, but still good sound at conversational levels - good enough quality to be able to get a quick and dirty mix between music, voice, and background ambiance in the videos. In a pinch I think they could serve for short videos in presentations with a room of 20 to 30 quiet people, but beyond that you will definitely need something more powerful. These are not professional quality and frankly if you are looking for professional quality in this price range your skills are probably not professional quality either... Perfect for office settings - if you are a gamer spend $5 to $50 more to get a 2.1 or better system with detached sub-woofer. Josh in IT.

I needed a set of decent speakers (without a bass unit) for my elderly father's laptop and these fit the bill perfectly! My father is hard of hearing and was having issues hearing the laptop sound/speakers and wanted something fairly small yet good sounding to easily hook to his laptop. We tried a set of 'cheapie' speakers, and although better than the laptop speakers, they still did not allow him to hear everything clearly. I purchased these from Amazon, and hooked them up and they worked great - he could hear the voices and make out the words and the tones (he listens to talk radio via the internet, and various music sites). Works perfectly for general sound enhancement. Obviously, these are not designed for bass, loud music, or high volume listening, but work well for general purpose speakers.

Ok so I bought these speakers years ago and never wrote a review. Needless to say they are awesome. They still work and my mom hates that lol because I blast my music with the subwoofer turned all the way up! I also plug it in to my tv to have great surround sound. Anything with a headphone jack I plug up to it. Sound is amazing. I have to admit after years of blasting on songs with really loud bass it does rattle a little but that's to be expected(this problem just started recently) the problem is fixed by turning the subwoofer down a little. My neighbor tells me she can hear my bass when she is outside and downstairs (bu she is cool and always has a request, if I play a song she likes she let's me blast it at night) while my room is upstairs hehe. Also when u get the speakers I thought they were broken because each plug in only operates two speakers at a time. The only way to utilize all of the speakers is by plugging in the little piece that comes with it but that is only for the tv or my game systems.

Initially these speakers were terrific. When I first hooked them up it was incredible. But within about a week the center speaker shorted out and will kick in only occasionally. As frustrating as this was, I got over it. I use the speakers mostly to play music that I am writing on a MIDI program, and I started noticing that a certain note on the piano would make the speakers buzz. This got worse and worse, and gradually other notes near the original trouble note (D5) started making the speakers buzz. Within about two weeks since this problem started the speakers now buzz on every song, on every instrument. They sound like cheap phone's speakers now. My laptop itself has more defined sound at this point. What a waste of money. Very disappointed.

They were much taller than what I expected to be and am SO happy I bought them.I was trying to find out if they were USB powered or wall outlet powered, they ended up being wall outlet powered which is less portable but for my purposes was EXACTLY what I wanted.Totally satisfied. It's been only a day with these so I can't say anything on longevity, but Logitech speakers have been good to me so far :)

I admit I primarily bought these because of the price and other reviews praising their ruggedness. Time will tell how durable these are. I am a little unhappy that the speakers and all the wires are permanently fixed. When you have a desktop computer and all the cables and wires that go with it. It is nice to be able to unplug everything and sort out the mess. Not an option with these. The two speakers are permanently connected with an audio wire. The audio input wire is permanently connected to one speaker and the power cord is fixed to that speaker as well. One good thing is that there is no cumbersome power brick transformer. The other disappointment is the sound quality. I've had other cheap 2.0 powered computer speakers in the past that were smaller and sounded better. The sound is eather too tin-y or too cardboard boxy depending how you adjust the tone knob. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a sweet spot in the middle.

I bought these as a gift for a friend when she was still in college. Although the sound quality/bass/treble/fancy-audiophile-requirement weren't all that great, they were exactly what she needed for her college dorm room: something that was better than her laptop speakers and didn't take up that much space, but not something that was too expensive or nice that she'd feel bad if they broke. She used these throughout her entire undergraduate years and then free-piled them when she graduated and moved back home. I'd say she got her (or rather my) money's worth out of these.

I bought these for only $59.99. Normally these speakers are around $150-200$. They absolutely sound like expensive speakers. The sub woofer is powerful, and gives good backbone to the sound. Works very well for movie explosions and bass in music. The satellite speaker system is excellent for 5.1 channel surround sound, makes a big difference in movies and my games. Also, the speakers have a clever screw system that allows them to be easily rotated, which is quite useful. 70 watts root mean square power is solid enough to fill my bedroom well, but not split eardrums, which is precisely what I wanted.

I love this little surround sound system! It's my second time buying it and I didn't re-buy because it was messed up or broken or broke on its own. My little kittens had chewed through the wiring and the system still worked for a long long time even after being chewed. I had the system about two years before my little kittens ate through the wires and I had the system almost three years after the kittens chewed through the wires. Eventually the system would freak out and one minute there would be sound, then really loud then no sound. I have to give it props for holding on for three years after getting chewed up! I love this little system, perfect amount of sound and bass for a small room. Anyone who says different was expecting something like the bigger version of this one. My brother has that one and it is a loud, LOUD! system! I love them both, but only had enough money for this one, but you really get what you paid for. The only thing I do have to say about the second one I bought is that is came with a converter? Ya it was like a European circuit and came with the converter to plug in to American plugs. A little annoying, but not a big deal. Anyone who doesn't believe me can kiss my booty, but this system rocks!!!! Oh and not to mention the system came two days before it was expected! Amazing! <3

After reading all the positive reviews for these speakers, I decided to go purchase these but I am returning them. I will try to make this review as helpful as I can, so you can decide if these speakers are for you. My objective for using these was for one thing, Music. I was going to use these as outdoor speakers so I could easily throw them in my beachbag or duffel bag (with my portable battery for AC power) I didn't need anything that was overly loud, nor did I need them to have overwhealming bass response. What I did expect was some decent sound. I plugged in my MP3 player, and I was disapointed. Mind you that I tried these inside and they were under-whealming. Here are the following problems:1.They do have good volume, problem is that once you get about half-way on the volume, they lose all low end frequencies.2.The highs are shrill.3.As mentioned the high end is overpowering, but once you get half way up, all low end goes away and the high frequences overpower the rest of the music, so much that it is annoying to the ear.Final Verdict: These are OK for the price point. If you plan on using them for gaming or music and only plan to keep them at low volumes, they arent that bad. Bass isn't going to hit you in the chest, but you have a fair low end to them. The highs arent that bad at low volumes either. Once you start turning them up, the dont really distort, but the high end takes over, and the highs are already a little on the bright side, yet it was just to much to absorb. If you want something that replaces the cheap speakers that come with a Pc, or the tin cans that are built into monitors, then these will do, espically at the 25dollar price point. If you want these for higher volume, and want your music to shine, then after reading many online reviews, most recommend the lower end or mid end Sony or Altec Lansings. They vary at about 5 to 15 dollar difference, but that isn't much more to get better sound and quality. Hope this helps you out choosing which speakers to get.

I have read many reviews, Amazon included on these Logitech speakers. Although it is highly subject to what sounds good and what does not it is almost imposable to read about a listening test. So read some of the other reviews if you want that warm fuzzy sounds good with Lady GAGA feeling. The hardware on the other hand needs some work. Packaged well and that is the hardest part of setting this system up, everything is so tightly crammed in the box it would be imposable to repack this stuff.Setup was and is straight forward put your speakers where you want them and then hope the wires are long enough, I personally made three trips to Radio Shack to set this up to my computer. Unfortunately to get proper surround from this system you have to put them farther apart than the six feet that they give you wire for. Personally I wanted them far enough apart to open the surround field instead of just sitting in one little sweet spot, I wanted my room to sound good as well. So long story short I was able to extend the satellite speakers with RCA extension cables.Speaker placement out of the way now comes to the control pod. Logitech gives you five feet of wire for the hardwired at both ends control pod, which basically means that it will go right above your subwoofer on the desk. The control pod does not light up to tell you the volume level just an on off power indicator as well as a matrix on off indicator. It also has a headphone jack in the front end of it, which I do not use.Okay the microscopic labeling on the back of the subwoofer. Here you are with all of these wires coming from different corners of your room and you have to hook them up to the back of the subwoofer inputs, easy enough except remember that I bought extension cables and now the color coding from Logitech doesn't apply anymore. So I'm down under my desk with a magnifying glass and all these wires with a flashlight trying to plug them in and figure which is which speaker. It would have been easier if they hardwired the subwoofer and then let you extend out to the speakers. So the printing on the back of the subwoofer is really really small, and only printed on the inside side of the input plugs where all the wires are.I stated that I made three trips to Radio Shack, the first trip was for the extension cables, easy enough. Except by the time I got all the cables hooked up and all the speakers in place I had a defective output on the back of the subwoofer that wasn't sending a signal to the front Right speaker, all this trouble for proper placement and the damn output is faulty. Second trip to Radio Shack was for 'Y' connectors so I could at least build some sort of a sound stage in the rear surrounds. Now I have the fronts on their own and reverse the front inputs on the sound card with adjustments via a software equalizer. Sounds much better and cleaner now that I have applied the proper settings with an equalizer. Prior to this speaker system I had only listened to sounds and music from my computer with a powerful receiver that was hooked straight to my sound card with RCA's then plug in headphones at the receiver, that was great if I want to hear my computer beep beep and bong bong I just turn on the receiver and have my headphones for listening to without unplugging the headphones. But now with the speaker system I have an on off switch if I want a quiet day. Third trip was to get a mini jack splitter so that I didn't have to be bothered with the wonky headphone jack on the control box. Plug in the headphones and the speakers turn off, who thought of that one. So now I have the mini jack splitter going from my sound card to the subwoofer and my receiver, so I can have my headphones and speakers too. Sometimes I have different players running and Windoze cant keep up with a good old fashioned Kenwood volume knob.Well the speakers do sound good buy em on sale and be prepared for a trip to the shack. peace

I bought these speakers for around $250 6 years ago. It was one of the best, most stable purchases for my computer set-up that I made. These speakers deliver. The amount of things we did with them just to test them out proved some remarkable things, from being able to hear them from across a college campus, to actually breaking a window (an expensive, but very awesome, conclusion to an excellent bass test). The power output is something that is remarkable to behold. Even at about 1/6th of the full power, it's able to overpower most other speaker systems, and is a very comfortable "loud" listening level. Going beyond it, and truly cranking it up, is just a fun night. The quality has always been astonishing, and it's meant that my computer was the center for all entertainment among my group of friends. The subwoofer is a beautiful thing to behold.I had to retire them recently, as they finally began to fail. Don't take that as something to ward you off, though; these endured 6+ years of daily, extreme usage. They were lugged around and hooked up to everything. They played every type of music you can think of, and did it well. If you are looking for a quality entertainment setup, for quite a long time, you can't do much better than these.

After researching many reviews of speakers on the Amazon website, I decided on the X-140 2.0 speakers. My need was to amplify the poor audio on my laptop when watching movies on the Amazon Prime program. The hard decision was between AC powered or USB powered speakers; but I decided to give up the portability of the smaller USB units for the amplification and tone control of the X-140. The performance of these speakers is remarkable; I cannot use more than half the volume control without blasting everyone out of the room! Granted, they are too big to be moved around much (and the left and right speakers are hardwired together, so must be moved as a unit; fortunately there's plenty of cord length). An "Extra" which I am just discovering: the speakers have a 3.5mm auxiliary input socket and you can play your iPad or iPod through them with a 3.5mm/3.5mm male/male accessory cord from Radio Shack. Works great. I would highly recommend these speakers for music, movies or voice amplification.

I needed 5.1 surround sound to play Skyrim, 2.1 speakers just won't do it for that game on Windows 7. I decided on these even though they are not the newest out there, but neither is my system. These give great, clear sound throughout the range. I am using an older audio card, Audigy 2, and had to install the latest drivers to get these to perform properly with Win 7, but they are really excellent. The wired remote is fine, good volume and bass control at your fingertips. I don't use the headphone jack but I did test it and it worked as expected. There is a mode to emulate 5.1 with a stereo source. I tried this out and it actually sounded very good.Mine are mounted as follows: fronts alongside my monitor, center on top of monitor, bass on the bottom shelf of my computer stand under my printer, and the rear speakers mounted on the ceiling about 5 feet behind me. Had to drill the speaker base and use screw anchors for the ceiling mount--the rears are designed for wall mount but the modification wasn't very hard to do. The wires for the rears are 14 feet long, so I purchased 10 foot extension cables for a few bucks (cheaper here than at Radio Shack) and I fished the wires through the ceiling. Measure where you plan to locate the rears and allow for going up the wall etc. The sound is really immersive this way.I use mid range volume and so do not experience any fade or distortion. Actually, when set at half volume the sound is way too loud for me. A true audiophile might detect some loss compared to a more expensive set of speakers but my guess is that most users won't. I am so glad I got these and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs 5.1 speakers and doesn't want to spend a fortune. Prompt delivery, two days early, even with slowest free shipping. You can't go wrong.

I love these speakers, i love finally being able to enjoy 5.1 surround sound instead of just a 2.1 setup. when audio is playing, it sounds great! the subwoofer is very deep and packs a punch, the gain is set to minimum, and the 3 bass settings on my computer's creative sound blaster xtremegamer sound card are set to minimum and yet that sub can still pack a punch, more so than my previous system. The only problem I have with this system is that when there is no audio, and theres just silence, when the volume is at least 20%, you can hear a whinning/hissing sound that can get pretty loud depending on how high the volume is set to. My friend has the same system and the same issue, and I see through many of the reviews of the same issue occurring so I doubt it is just my speakers being defective and just a coincidence.
