After putting up a positive review here on these speakers after a month or so of use, I feel the need to show the difference of my opinion after a year's use. I would not buy these speakers again. They shimmy across whatever surface they happen to be on. I have seen this on wood, tile and marble. The construction of the speakers will withstand multiple falls to the floor, but gotta figure that can't be a good thing in the long term. Also have noticed major distortion and have to turn the volume (which isn't so great to begin with) down to get good sound quality. I happen to like my music loud, and this system just doesn't cut it. I did babysitting when I was 12 but I sure don't want to it with my computer speakers.

I received the speakers in perfect working condition and they work great except that the one speaker wire for the right rear was the wrong color and only have the length of the left rear so i believe it was the wrong speaker. Other than that, the speakers and delivery were amazing and everything works great

These USB powered speakers work very well. To save space I plugged them into a USB port in the back of my desktop and merely placed them on top of the tower. For the price and size they work amazingly well.

HiI have owned this unit for 2 years now and i will say thati like this system a lot.Too much of everything in my opinion, to loud sometimes but a lot of sound if youneed some sound to blast the house for sure.Well some opinions on details that i would more think of as enhancements:I use the unit itself to adjust volume and base or balance more then with the remotesince sooner or later there will be an disturbing element with running out of batterieson the remote control and i go the extra 3 feet to adjust the volume or turn off or on.The Control of the unit could be with touch display because after some time the volume knob andother buttons become dust collectors and since it is black or silver it shows quickly and perhapsmore in places where i have the windows open a lot during the day unless some kind of cover is used on it of course.I put my speakers on the walls and the stand for speakers is not really intended for that even if you like toput them hanging on the wall but i found a way and replaced the speaker cables to some thicker ones.Overall i am very pleased with it, keep going strong :)Matthias

I would have given it 4 maybe five stars but it's now priced almost 100 bucks cheaper than what I paid. That's pretty sucky. I've only had this system for a week and so far I have to say it sounds pretty good. Setting it up was quick and straight forward. The wires for the rear speakers should be longer. I plan on getting speaker wire and extending the distance to better appreciate the surround effect. Highs and mid range sound crisp and clear. I've only had the volume up really loud once and no distortion. The bass sounds good but not as powerfull as I thought it would. Having said that, I think I need to tweak the settings in the computer for better sound but that's a little tough because along with the new speaker system I replaced my old dinosaur of a computer with a Dell Studio XPS 9100 and I haven't mastered it's full set up yet. The small Logitech set up giude lists all the features but doesn't do a good job of explaining exactly what they all mean and it doesn't give much info about adjusting the computer for optimal sound but I guess that's understandable considering each computer is different. The Dell set up guide isn't much help either. All in all the system sounds great and hopefully will sound even better. Still pissed about the difference in price though.

Speakers arrived in record time as always..... ty Amazon. GREAT speakers, sound quality outstanding OMG shakes the windows in my office at less than full on volume. Rugged speakers, heavy and protected by the wire mesh...great buy!!!!!! LOVE these speakers & would definitely recommend them. The only reason I didn't give 5* all the way... my fault for ASSUMING if there was headset connection would be microphone as well. BLONDE HERE DUH ... Seriously though I would recommend these speakers, they're easy to set up/use and have great sound.

I thought I was going to get two small speakers for my PC and it turns out that they are pretty big and heavy (10"x3.75"). Aside from being mislead as to their actual size there is one more issue and that is that the cable that leads to the PC is weak and you have to jiggle it to hear it perfectly. I thought about sending it back but I got too lazy. Fortunately, I was able to place it in a way that I wouldn't ever have to move it, but other than that the sound is of good quality and its volume can go pretty high. If I would have better advised about the size and the weak cable I would have purchased something else.

Great speakers! I got them set up in running in less than 20 minutes on my MacBook Pro. The "Matrix" Feature makes everything sound incredible and I love the Sub.

Speakers came in great shape, easy to set up and the seller included an adapter to make an ipod/phone/etc surround sound. Im not a sound expert but they sound great to me and are perfect for football pregames. The only problem i have experienced is that the speakers tend to make a 'pop' noise every 10 min or so when on. Otherwise 5 stars!

For the price they are OK. I wouldn't consider them portable or attractive, but they are much better than the speakers my laptop comes with. When at a higher volume they do create a lot of hiss. If using itunes you can always go to the equalizer option and chose "small speakers" to minimize the hiss. I can't see how these would work with an ipod since ipods don't have a usb port on them...must be some kind of adaptor needed.

Bought these as a small set to augment my 21" flat panel monitor/hdtv in the kitchen. As the unit was a combo it lacked a decent speaker that could produce enough volume to be heard well above the din of kitchen work. These little speakers really did the job. I can be running the dishwasher, frying chicken, and the exhaust fan running on high and still enjoy whatever show I'm tuned into at the time.Great little performers at a very modest price. If one should fall into the sink it's no great loss and easy enough to replace.

Having zero problems with my Klipsch Promedias, I was heartbroken when my sub blew out and rendered my computer speakers useless after six years of faithful service (I later found out I was lucky to get that much out of them, as there were quite a few issues with the BASH chipset). Doing some research online, it seemed like the current king of computer speakers was Logitech, and these Z-5500's were the flagship of their line.I put in the order on Amazon and anxiously waited.Two days later, I was setting up the speakers, wired them all up, connected to my computer and powered them on.Unfortunately they did not turn on.No blip, bump, thud, or crackle. They simply didn't turn on. The box from UPS shown no wear or tear, and the Logitech box itself was pristine. Every single piece within the box was still wrapped, no scratches, no obvious signs of any type of shipping abuse.After looking to see if there was some sort of hidden "reset" button I had overlooked, I went to everyone's favorite troubleshooter, Google. Google informed me that quite a few people on various forums had regularly blown the fuses of the Z-5500s and that a trip to Radio Shack might be called for. The trip was completed, and I was the brand new owner of a FUSE,4A,SLOBLO,5X20MM,125V,LITTELFUSE239. I popped in this little $2 fuse, and ta-da, the speakers worked like a champ.Sound-wise, honestly I was very unimpressed with my new speakers. Logitechs in general ran on the bassy side for me, and these were no different. The trebles seemed muted and blurred because of the intense focus on the bass line (this was after tweaking both via the control pod and within Windows). If you were looking for just "room-shaking bass," then this is probably a good system for you, however if you're a music fan, you won't be overly impressed (my music test sample was a FLAC file of Janice Ian's Breaking Silence, and the Eagles Hell Freezes Over live songs - as well as the DTS track from the DVD).For those who are probably thinking that my experience was out of the ordinary, you are probably right. Most people probably have their speakers work for at least a little while after getting them out of the box. However if you do a simple search on Z-5500 and fuse, you will see that the fuse issue is not an uncommon one. Buying a 3-pack of replacement fuses will extend the life of this product but not indefinitely - so get used to knowing where your local Radio Shack or Fry's is.

for the prices, these speakers are good, loud, and crisp. they are somewhat bulky and do take up some space so make sure your desk has space. the build quality looks good with a nice finish. i like the metal grill that covers the speakers/bass. you can turn off the volume all the way, has a earphone jack, a MP3 jack, and a "tone" knob to tune the treble/bass.

This is an excellent little system, not because it's cheaper than some others but in spite of that. I've paid more for 2.1 stereo speakers that aren't as good as these. Two complaints that I've read about the 506 system are no control-pod and the wires for the rear speakers are too short. Having the control on your desk is an important feature and the wires for the rear speakers are 12'. That's still short but this system isn't really for a home theater unless in a small room. If needing to buy two 25' extension wires to mount the rear speakers on the wall is too much for you then you need to spend the $300 to buy wireless speakers. I almost bought the newer model since it's a little cheaper but am very glad that I paid the extra $16 for these.

Thanks to the overwhelming positive reviews, I made the purchase. These are for my son's room and are connected directly to a monitor. We're running a nintendo Wii via HDMI to the monitor and the sound produced for gaming is great. For as small as these are, they have good Mids and the Bass/treble are more than acceptable. The only negative is the bright orange "On" light... a little too bright and cant be switched off unless the speakers are off. Would definitely recommend these for a small environment.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot for the price, but I am pretty pleased with this speaker. The volume and sound quality are quite an improvement over the laptop speakers. And, it couldn't have been easier to install - just plug it in!

I've had this system for about 9 months and use it regularly. I have had it hooked up to a PS2, a PS3, and my PC, using the optical cable for each one. The first thing I noted is the amount of power this little system creates. I've never turned up the volume past the third notch (out of probably 20), which is enough to fill my entire 800 square foot basement full of sound.I wasn't as impressed with the bass response as most folks seem to be - to me, the best bass response only ocurrs when the system is turned up loud; I wasn't too happy with the bass response at low volumes. One good thing about the bass, however, is it is distortion-free, which is VERY surprising given the low cost of this system. Turn it up as loud as you can and the bass won't distort.Another problem I noticed is the high-end sound (tweeters) is not that great without the help of an equilizer. For example, if you're going to use this on a PS2 or a PS3, you don't have the ability to equilize the sound, and the high-end sounds don't stand out so much. On a PC, however, one can adjust equilizer settings to create more treble and a brighter, clearer sound, which these speakers can handle. There are no equilizer settings on the Z-5500 - all the user can do is adjust the independent output levels of the subwoofer, center channel, and rear channels. There is also no right/left balance adjustment, which might peeve some people who have their speakers set at unequal distances from their TV/PC.The remote for this unit is very, very basic and shouldn't cause anyone some heartache. Logitech does sell a nicer remote which integrates more of their components, however.The "effect" settings are fun to play with, but often don't do much of anything. One thing that is important to remember - if the user is going to use this system with a PS2 or PS3 for watching movies, be sure to go into your console's settings and enable DTS and Dolby Digital through the optical output. My PS2's default setting had these disabled, and the Z-5500 wasn't picking up the true 5.1 surround signal on the DVD. So for a couple months I was unimpressed with its surround capability and was instead watching movies using Pro Logic II, which isn't as impressive as true 5.1 surround. After enabling the settings, the difference is quite noticeable, and both DTS and Dolby Digital movies sound as they should.The rear and right/left speakers are mountable to a wall, but I struggle a bit with the ability to position the speaker to face the direction I want after mounting. I did modify a speaker stand to accept the surround speakers, so if you're crafty, you might be able to make an attractive rear speaker setup instead of setting these on the floor or drilling them into your walls.It's important to note also that this system still draws a quite bit of power when it is turned off (as many components do these days). This to retain any settings you have made. In the manual, Logitech recommends actually shutting down the power switch on the back of the subwoofer when not in use. Since I built my sub into a cabinet, I don't have that luxury, so I just flip the power strip switch and lose my settings each time, which doesn't take a whole lot of tweaking to restore each time I power it back on.All in all, I'm very satisfied with this system given its price point. I had expected to spend about $100 more than this for something with the same features, so you really do get a lot of bang for your buck with the Z-5500. Although compatible with console systems, the Z-5500 really shines on a PC - for games or for music - where the user has the ability to turn up the treble a little bit. The sound is rich. I recommend it with 4 stars.Edit: My title "Bang for your buck" might be outdated by now. When I purchased this system, I only shelled out $250. Amazon is listing it at over $900. Don't buy it for $900.

I wanted a pair of decent speakers for the laptop in our living room. For $25 the price seemed good since most of the reviews have been positive. They were very easy to set up (took just a minute to have them ready to go) and the build quality is very good. The sound from these speakers is great. If you need some inexpensive speakers to upgrade the music experience of your computer, these are great.

These speakers sound OK for basic computer speakers, so if you want really good sound these will not suffice, although they sound better using headphones plugged into them. They sound much better than integrated speakers, which is what most people are looking for at this cost, so I recommend them because of that.

The X-140s are good-sounding, good-looking speakers for a very reasonable price. The audio and electrical wiring is high quality. The volume and tone controls feel solid and operate smoothly. The speakers are easy to set up and there's no power adapter to deal with -- just plug straight into line power and connect the audio plug to your motherboard or sound card. The X-140s have the look, feel, and performance of a more expensive product.

i had the older model before this oneunfortunately damaged some off the speaker cableswhen i was hoovering the house, and the lil sub got faultythis is totally better and much improved modelcompared to my older model i hadquality sound and bass!!whats handy as well is the remoteswitch to increase or decrease the bass depending on use.please note that this however does not come withLogitech 5.1 Game Console Adapter Convert Rca Plugs To A Single 1/8andAudio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug/2-RCA Plugswhich one will need to connect to the tv or laptop or mp3 devicebesides that def recommend to all!!

My goal was simple. Use an HDMI out from my xbox / video player to my Panasonic Plasma TV and then use the Optical out on the TV to the Logitech Z5500 optical in. Well wouldn't you know it my TV only Outputs STEREO OPTICAL OUT! Now I will have to buy an Optical Out adapter on my Xbox and swap it out with my digital video player to get true 5.1 sound. Not the logitech's fault but you should be aware of this limitation on most tv's if that is what you intend to do. The logitech is very simple to setup and saves space by eliminating a Bulky Receiver box with a pretty unobrusive control box. Bass is good but testing on 5.1 DD and DTS i did notice some distortion if you crank the Bass full up on the control box. The center channel sond is not as sharp and crystal clear as I'd hope for. Fortunately you can swap them out with standard speakers of your choice since the Z5500 uses standard speaker wires. I was actually more impressed by the sound from my previous 5.1 setup using the logitech x540. Sounds were sharper and clearer with that setup and you could really hear surround sounds clearly. The limiation with the x540 was that it had no Optical In and doesn't use standard speaker wires.

We've bought 20 sets of these over the past few years and they're holding up well. We include these when folks check out video projectors and they work well for that.ProsSimple, just two things to plug in: mini audio & power. All cords are permanently attached and power is just a regular plug, not a power brick.Tough, they have a thick plastic case and metal mesh over the speakers, no one has broken one yet. These continue to stand up to a lot of portable use that has killed lesser speakers.Good sound, our customers use these to play DVD's in presentations. They have a pleasing tone and are just loud enough.ConsThey're tall and a little tippy.Cord management is annoying. When you pull these out of the box they're pretty easy to set up. But getting the cords wound up so you can get them back in the box takes a little work.They don't get really loud. Turned up all the way, with the laptop audio all the way up, these are just loud enough to use for DVD presentations.

This is comparable to a home theater system. Great Sound quality and the bass is great. The subwoofer is huge and the heat sink does get hot. Other than that it is a great sound system.

The speakers worked for a few days then after a week for some reason things started to go wrong. At first the sound played but the buttons didn't work. Then the speakers would clearly be on but no sound would come out. Now the only thing that works is the forward and back track button and the on/pause button. No sound and volume button doesn't work. It uses a usb head to charge and to receive input and send output. Worse idea ever. I kind of wish it just had a regular headphone jack. Then I suppose I could at least get some sound. There were no instructions and another annoying thing was that the speakers were hooked together by a really short cord so you couldn't really separate them very far. So very disappointed :(

I have had this system now for over 2 years and it still sounds great. The only problem I've had with it so far is the remote will occasionally go MIA. The bass is loud and crisp, mids are occasionally distorted at louder volumes, highs are good.Pros:Cost, especially since I got mine new for $225 shipped.Even at louder volumes still sounds great.Cons:Interface could be better.Could do with front/back left/right adjustments which are more useful for whenever you are only using a 2 channel input.Occasionally in the Dolby Music and Movie effects there is a weird spatial effect which is annoying sometimes, sometimes enough to make me put it in the Stereo x2 effect.I'd like to see more surround sound capable inputs. (Yes I realize this is probably asking a lot from it)Overall:I highly recommend this system for those with smaller rooms. I used this system in a 45x25 living room and while it still sounds decent, you will never get the sound to fill the room the way your sound should. I suspect that if you are going to use it in a room larger than 15x15 you should look for something with more power for the best results. Also as a tip I highly suggest using the 1-3 stereo setting for additional inputs. My computer is hooked up to my TV and I have a splitter coming out of the sound card. One output goes to my TV which is connected to send all sound to Stereo 1. Then one output from the computer goes to directly to Stereo 2 so you can listen to sound/music with the TV off. If you decide to buy this system you definitely will not be disappointed.

We have a laptop on which we watch movies regularly both in home and while traveling. The only issue we had was hearing them using only the factory laptop speakers. We initially looked at buying a cheaper surround sound set for at home, which comes with many pieces and needs to be plugged into the wall, etc. In looking online we came across this USB speaker. It was about $20 more than the other sets we were looking at but were intrigued with the option to travel with it as well, it's smaller size, and the fact that it had the USB plug which eliminated ugly wires and the nuisance of hooking it up every time we wanted to use it. We both agreed that we would have paid twice the price now that we have it. The product is exactly as described; it is both user friendly as well as not an eye sore. The sound quality for such a small speaker is perfect for what it is intended for. We noticed there were some previous reviews that complain of the sound quality but please remember..this is not intended to rock your house or replace your theater sound system. It gets plenty loud to play both music and/or movies in your room or quiet enough to listen to on a plane without being a nuisance to others. It comes with a great, protective case for storage or travel and is small enough to fit easily in a briefcase or purse. It has a built in clip on the bottom which connects perfectly to the top of our laptop, it almost looks as it's an original part of the computer, while it acts secondly as a table stand if you wish to not clamp it to your computer. It's as simple as plugging in the USB to your computer and pushing the volume buttons. Great value, great convenience.

Ordered these speakers at the end of November 2010 because they were offered on Amazon's Lightning Deal Promotion at $14.99 I needed a cheap set of speakers for an older computer that has been relocated to the guest room. I was not looking for the best sound quality; just something that would deliver sound/ music, simple with no frills. The speakers have only been used about 10 or 12 times, and one speaker just died last week. I would like to blame the blow-out on excessive audio levels, but that was not the case. One speaker just died for no obvious reason - end of story. I would suggest that anyone looking for a cheap set of speakers go with another brand. I would gladly return these to Amazon, but the product fizzled well after the return window, which expired on Jan. 31, 2011.

It's still day 1, but...OMG!!!Thunderous bass for classical, rap...Crisp highs for metal, alternative...and well rounded sound for everything else, and all without any seeming strain whatsoever on the system or the sub at fairly loud listening levels; about 60% volume.Games have come alive, movies are incredible.I loved my Promedias but I was sick of the problems; excellent heatsinks plus the built in thermal protection in this system are good for my peace of mind.All in all, I now think of Logitech has added serious sound to the company portfolio, moving well beyond just standard pc speakers.Update: 2/26/2012The system is still going strong. The only failure has been the lights on the control pod LCD display, this seems to be a widespread issue. It wasn't a big deal for me so I haven't bothered to send for repairs. In all other aspects the sound continues to be truly impressive!Update: 3/3/2012This monster is still as clear as the day it was installed. One of the best purchases I have ever made.

With so many people rating this product so high, I thought is was getting a higher quality product for a great price. Well, you get what you pay for and these sound terrible, especially the bass. If you need cheap speakers for your small children to play games, then these are probably ok, but if you want to listen to music, these are not the speakers for you. They sounded so bad that I called Logitech thinking that I just received a bad pair. They were very customer friendly and sent me a new pair, but they sounded just as bad.

This speaker has a good design.But here is a important problem.When this speaker arrived at my home,I settled and connected my an equipment.But I was surprised at not hearing one speaker.So I went into connected equipment manager mode.I arranged the balance of sound.I think that the speaker must be work well without controlling connected TV, PC and so on.Anyway I am using well.This speaker has a good sound quality.I recommend that a factory should consider the balance of left and right sound.This speaker is actually 5 stars, but I gave 3 stars because of this problem.

Compared to those cheap stereo speakers that come with new computers, of course these are going to sound much better. Personally, though, I bought these to replace an old Kilpsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra system. In comparison, the 5500s sound a lot muddier, and a lot of the details I used to be able to hear with the Klipsch were no longer distinguishable on the Logitech 5500s. (I don't really consider myself an audiophile, but even I noticed the difference in sound quality, which says something...)But, these 5500s *are* cheaper than the Klipsch, so lower quality is to be expected. However, the drop in quality is a bit too much, I think, for the difference in price. That's not to say these 5500s are not a good fit for certain situations. I suppose gaming doesn't suffer too much, and if you keep the volume cranked up all the time, you probably won't care about any subtle details anyway. The bass is overpowered, as is to be expected in most PC systems, but also quite messy. For example, instead of being able to hear accents and unique tones in a sequence of bass notes with the appropriate breathing room around them, all you get is a long continuous muddy and overpowering sound. It could be good for games and some kinds of music, but for most types of music, it takes away a lot from the experience. As for the mids and highs, they are quite weak, especially the mids-- they're almost non-existent. Granted, sub + satellites don't produce great mids, but I was hoping for at least something better. Messing with the EQ helps somewhat, as you can adjust the relative volumes of the various frequencies, but it does not help with the clarity or texture of the sound. Plus there are response and dynamics issues that simply can't be addressed by amplitude modulation of individual frequencies alone.In frustration, I decided to switch out the 5500 satellites and plug in my old Klipsch sats. The mids and highs did sound better-- definitely clearer, a little brighter, but somewhat harsh. I'll probably switch back the original 5500 sats though, because those have an impedance of 8 ohm, whereas the Klipsch sats are 6 ohms. The 2 ohm difference probably won't damage the amp, but you never know.One thing I will say, is that the control panel is pretty nice. I would've liked more weight on the volume knob (actually, more weight on the whole control panel overall), but it does provide some useful functions and information.In conclusion, it's hard to categorize these speakers. They're definitely impressive if it's your first time listening to a 5.1 system. At the same time, any self-proclaimed audiophile would probably never give these a second look (or listen). I fall somewhere in between. I'm not really caught up in all the expensive audiophile gear, but I do appreciate good sound. (Playing in university orchestra for 4 years sorta makes you sensitive to sound quality.) After reading a lot of the reviews, I had high expectations for these speakers, but in the end they still sounded like "entry level" speakers. Maybe I was just spoiled with the Klipsch. Too bad their (Klipsch's) amps have such a high failure rate.

Have had this speakers for about 2 years or so, they sound great especially for the money, let me just say this, to bad that Logitech does not have a bigger identical system I would definetly buy it for my home theater system, the sound is great and so is the bass I am listening in a room with my computer is in. The room is about 10' X12' and the system will blow me away if I turn the volume more then half way up, a little tip since the sub is downfiring I lean it against my desk and more bass, ( WOW LA )

Loved the sound this speaker system produced -- while it lasted. One morning woke up and the controller pod was dead. Logitech does not replace the controller pod, you have to buy a whole new set of speakers. So if you're one month out of warranty, tough luck. The explanation I was given is the controller is mated to the Sub but you cannot by the sub and controller either.

I purchased a monitor (ASUS ML238H) recently and needed a pair of speakers to match. I'm using the monitor exclusively for gaming on a PS3. I initially intended to buy a 2.1 system until I found this product. These speakers are inexpensive, look great, sound great and have everything I need. Yes, there is no sub-woofer, but these speakers produce enough bass to satisfy me.The design is sleek, all black, with metal grills protecting the speaker. They are heavier than I thought, but that is a good thing. Cords are long enough with a 3.5mm audio jack and a simple power plug (not those massive bricks). The right speaker has the two knobs, one for volume and one for tone. I found the tone turned almost all the way up sounded the best. The right speaker also had a headphone jack and an audio in port on the front. The speakers got plenty loud when turned up and yet it still sounded clear with the volume low.My only gripe is this squelching squeak when I first turn the speakers on after being off for a while. It's not interference from anything; it is something internal to the speakers. I found that it wasn't that bad, although a little annoying. The goods definitely outweighed this one complaint.Overall I'm happy with this purchase and I recommend these speakers to anyone looking for 2.1 sound in an inexpensive 2.0 speaker set.

Bought this last year for a friend under $100 from Amazon.Sounds good, but not home theater.Have Z5300 Thx sounds off the chain! Awesome!Don't Spend over $100 for the X-540 unless you like throwing you money in trash!

I Love this little speaker, it has good quality sound, it is small enough to fit in my lap top bag, and best of all no power cords or batteries, just USB. I can not recommend this product enough.

My goal was to find a pair of USB speakers to replace the ones I have to plug in the wall. I only used the speakers when the volume was too low coming out of my monitor speakers when watching Hulu. These speakers have a good bass and I can make them very loud without having to plug them to the wall. XP recognized them right away when I plugged them in.The only thing I noticed is that when I unplugged them while playing a video in VLC, the sound would disappear on VLC. It would not switch to the monitor speakers. I had to close VLC and reopen the movie to get the sound back. Doesn't bother me enough to give them a lower rating.If you want loud USB speakers with great bass, these are excellent. They even come in a nice carry-on case. I'm very happy with them.

This is a nice device for people whose laptop speakers are too weak. It upped the volume quite a bit so I could hear things well.But I started having problems since the first day - it would not start right after I plugged it in. I was not sure why at that time - then I found out. The USB cord is of the cheapest quality and the piece that connects to the speaker gets bent quite easily. It loses the signal as it bends and that was the issue I was having. Once I figured this out, I replaced the cable with one of my sturdier USB cables (from an external hard disk) and it works great!I give this product 4 stars - one star off for the USB Cable.

Better than bose because of the price/sound ratio and I have had these for like 6 years now, and I beat the hell out of them with dubstep and other kinds of intense music and they still work like the first day i bought them! Oh and i recently found out that "all the way up" is not as loud as these go, if you keep turning the knob you can get +10 volume boost which is amazing. I swear these speakers won't blow no matter how hard&loud I play them. You absolutely cannot get any louder and keep the sound fidelity for this price. Will buy another set if these burn out, but it doesn't even look like they will, not even a hint of any crackling from any speaker! The awesome thing is that you don't need a receiver too. Hope this helps ;) Also, for those that have mid problems, just tweak your EQ settings a little and you will get legit mid's high's and low's.

First off: If you're looking for something spectacular, filling your head with amazing sounds, these speakers aren't for you.Does that mean they're bad? Absolutely not.I'm a solo recording artist, and love listening to music. I game on occasion, and watch movies all on my desktop machine. These speakers won't work as cheap monitors for recording (I've got a nice set of Audio-Technica cans for that), but they WILL work for casual media consumption (read: Your average guy who wants 5.1 surround). The sound isn't colored too much, unless you activate the Matrix feature. Overall, things sound pretty tight, and the subwoofer doesn't get muddy as long as you're seeking a well balanced sound.The volume control is nice and smooth. Also, those who complain about shorter speaker cables must have a pretty stretched-out setup; I had no problems with cable length, and still have plenty of slack.The mounting options are equally good, especially the center mounted speaker.My biggest gripe is the waste called matrix mode; it really isn't that useful, and is more a gimmick than anything else. To my ears, it sounds more like a stereo widener than anything else, passing extreme left and right channels to the rear speakers instead. Still, I didn't buy it for the feature, so it's a minor gripe regardless.Another minor gripe I have is that the volume control remote is hard-wired to the sub; my previous speakers (some old Creative 4.1 setup) had a removable connector, which made transportation a little easier.

I wasn't expecting the world when I ordered these, but hey work perfect for what I needed. I listen to reggae, punk, rock, dnb, dubstep, metal, etc... and all of em sound good comin through these speakers. I thought hey would be smaller, but I actually like the size. Makes them a bit more substantial and durable.

I am pleased with these speakers very much. Great bang for the price. I'm looking to get digital high definition sound, but these speakers work fine for the time being.
