I've owned this product for 2 years now and I must say they represent a great value. They work exactly as described and offer plenty of power for any small-medium sized room.The sound quality is certainly not audiophile grade but at a price of $200, it is more than acceptable and probably best-in-class. Their appearance is superb, setup is a cinch, and operation is flawless.I researched many inexpensive speaker systems for a small room and the Z-5500's came out on top. After 2 years of extensive use, I do not regret the decision.My only concern is that the mounting situation is not ideal. The legs only swivel in one direction and do not detach. They can be mounted with a flanged screw or a screw with a washer. Because of their light weight, they can be mounted almost anywhere including plain drywall. Let me know if you need any instructions for mounting, I have plenty of photos from my last installation.

I'm a college student and overall, I'd say this system is pretty great. The only problem is that the cords which extend to the rear speakers are a little short, so I either have to buy extensions to have cables going all over my floors. Overall, the sound quality is very good, and for the price I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

I've owned that pair of speakers for a bit more than one year. The sound quality of which is (most of the time) amazingly good given the physical size, the price, and being USB-powered. I'm connecting that pair of speakers through an external self-powered USB hub to a notebook PC. I'm not sure whether it's the notebook PC problem (I had changed to another self-powered USB hub already), I found that from time to time that pair of speaker would sound thin and tinny, losing all base and some mid-range. However, when I unplug and plug the speakers to the USB hub - during the PC and USB hub are on and running - all the base and mid-range would come back.By benefit of double on real cause of that trouble, and that the issue is not big, I'd still give 5 stars.

I bought this pc speaker system at a very low price aspecting it to be good but this was way better then i aspected! This is surtenly a bang for the buck! For a small system like this it sounds loud, what i like the most! If your limited on space in your bedroom of office, the logitech system will definetly fit your need!

The Logitech V10 speakers are easy to use and I have found that they work with Widows as well as OpenSuse, Linux Mint and Ubuntu. With Linux you can go to the Sound preferences and choose to use USB sound. Logitech builds great devices. I have a couple of their MX mice, a TV remote, 2 pairs of their speaker and have be satisfied with all.

Just got these, plugged them in to my desktop USB port, and started listening to Pandora. It took a while to convince myself that it could be that easy. No power connection, no drivers to load (I'm running Windows XP and I've since established that they also work fine with XP-64 without drivers). The sound is fine for ordinary use in a typical office environment. Plenty of volume is available if needed, but I don't come close to maxing them out. Very clear sound. I love the fact that I don't have power cables all over the place and no power brick....and the integration of the stand with the wire control is clever.Added after a year or so of use:I eventually bought 2 sets of these speakers, one stays with one of my desktop computers and has worked fine - I'm delighted with it. The other, unfortunately, was assigned to my notebook and has done a lot of traveling, apparently too much for it physically. The driver in the left-hand speaker eventually totally separated from its mount, and as a set they became useless. On the plus side, the USB feed and the controls are on the right-hand speaker, and the cable connecting the two is detachable. So...I've learned to live with mono sound from this particular computer. And even with this limitation it's far, far better than the built-in speaker.Amazon apparently doesn't let you change a rating initially given, but if they did I guess I'd have to reduce the 5-stars to 4-stars.

Sturdy and great sound appear to be durable. I really like the fact that the volume adjust is not on a speaker like other models but that it is a separate entity. Very please with the software and its many features. Overall this is a great buy for the price.

The price on Amazon is awesome for these, but I would even be willing to pay the "list price" of around $60 for them because they are great speakers. (I bought them like two years ago for about $35, though). Anyways... these speakers are so clear, and they have so much depth. I love listening to them. The subwoofer, however, takes the cake. It is amazingly powerful and makes listening to music a very fun experience. I can't believe how great these speakers and subwoofer are for the price. I would recommend them to anyone--The sony speakers that came with my computer (including a sony subwoofer) are so shallow and weak sounding compared to these. I also really wish I could put these in my car, because the speakers are way better than those in my car. That is mainly because the speakers in my car are about shot... but you get the idea. How many people would want to put a set of computer speakers in their car? Not many, unless they've experienced these logitech speakers. They really will get the job done SUPER WELL for anyone. Don't waste your money on more expensive speakers because these things are great.

Incredible sound system. It was easy to set up, and immediately started producing high quality sound. Even turning the volume all the way up, no sound quality is sacrificed. Produces clean music even while your kitchen is shaking from the bass. Not only that, but I discovered a few weeks after buying it that there is a 'Boost' mode, activated if you keep turning the volume knob past full. It goes up to Boost 11 (or 13, I forget)... it is awesome.The only downside is that now I need better encoded MP3's to take full advantage of this system.

I got the idea of how these speakers work when I heard it from a friend's laptop. I was so amazed about the sound it produces and it's really great to use when listening to music and watching movies. :) I will definitely recommend this product. :)

I think these are great speakers for an amateur (which I am, in the world of speaker). Only bad thing about them is the lack of cord that comes with them but this can be fixed by picking up some at radio shack (kinda expensive). I highly recommend these set of speakers though. They have a great sound and the sub has some thump to it.

Honestly, these speakers are awesome, and Amazon just raises the bar and is more awesome every day.The sound quality is great, definitely worth the money. The dolby surround sound makes all your music sound fantastic, and what can i say they are loud!I bought them for 223, less than a week later the price dropped to 189 and Amazon refunded the difference after i told them, seriously great customer service.Oh, did i mention you should get these speakers? :)

Plugged them in and no sound. Pause and forward menu buttons all work though. Searched online, followed forum advice and downloaded sp1 windows service pack and all usb updates. Still nothing. Called logitech customer support, non-toll free number by the way. Call lasted 65 minutes, only to find out that these speakers are not fully compatible with Vista operating systems...thanks for wasting my time. They should not say on the product requirements that it's compatible with XP and above operating systems.

I agree with the majority about the X-540 comments. Overall it's a good system for its price. The sound is surprisingly good, and the power is good. I bought this model before I saw the G51 or the 5500. I would prefer the G51 instead, but that's only because I am a guy and like more power then I actually need. Overall I am satisfied with the X-540.Pros: sound, controls, priceCons: really short hard-wired speaker wires, rear speakers could use a little more power.Additional, the bass is a bit overpowering, but it's adjustable. I wish there were individual speaker controls as with the G51. I choose the X-540 over the Bose Companion 3 because I felt the X-540 could deliver a more full sound then the Bose. The Bose hands down delivers a better quality sound, but I didn't think it would deliver as much of a powerful sound then the X-540.

I am an audiophile, and I can tell you that this is an amazing set of speakers. They sound amazing! The bass is so crisp and hits so tight I at times feel like I have my W7 in my living room.And for the price, you cannot go wrong!

I purchased this product but it won't impress me much. It has limited sound and it connects to USB which means if you buffer or start some movie and conect this speaker, your computer voice won't trasnfer to speaker but you need to re buffer or play movie again to transfer sound to speaker.So well not bad prodcut if you are looking for an alternative of your bad computer speaker but do not expect high sound effect and great product.

I wanted a reasonably priced, easily set-up speaker system with a sub-woofer for my computer. The Logitech fulfilled all these requirements.I did not put all the speakers around the room as suggested so the surround soiund is not part of my system at present.The sound is great and almost equal to the more expensive Klipsch system I have on my other computer. I particularly liked the small control unit which is handy nearby and controls not only the volume and on or off but has an input for headphones, if you want to go that way.

I am very much impressed with the quality of the sound and the flexibility of the components. The price is, quite simply, about a fourth of what I would have guessed, were I to have simply looked at the entire system. My wife is happy that I can now listen to my extensive CD collection in the computer room while I'm doing e-mail and Photoshop tasks.

Wow simlpy wow, this system is amazing. Hook up is very simple with simple color coded stero wires for the satellites, and a vga connector for the control center. the subwoofer is huge and slightly heavy, total package weight is 55lbs. most of it being the subwoofer. Haven't had any interference problems with the subwoofer and its' magnet. i have my xbox 360 literly 4 inches above the sub horizontaly and it works perfectly fine. for people complaining about the shortness of the rear speaker cord length, if this is going in a small room you won't have any problems, the cords for the speakers are 20ft long. if you want this for your huge tv in a big room, go buy a regular home theater system, this is supposed to be for a computer anyway. i have this in my bedroom so i have no problems with cord length, room is 13ft x 22ft

i bought these to hook up to my pc in my college dorm room, and for the price they are very good; very decent sounds for 30 bucks and free shipping; the bass does get distorted if you turn it up too high, but it has a pretty decent sound range and its definitely good for what i use on my desktop; music, watching movies, and games.

This is a fantastic system, if you have nothing else that is wireless. I have the G7 laser mouse from Logitech, which I cannot use at the same time the speakers are on because of interference, and also it completely destroys your wifi, also your cordless phones (if they are 2.4 ghz) are useless, my xbox 360 controllers can't be used when the speakers are on. It's so frustrating.So if you're thinking about buying this system, and you have a bunch of wireless stuff (phones, mouse, keyboard, game controllers, router, whatever) don't do it, 2.4 ghz is oversaturated, and the z-5450 seems to interfere on ALL 2.4ghz signals.

I bought this pair of speaker to replace the crappy one in my laptop. It works great. Just plug in to USB port and it is done. It also has top panel to control the volume and mute. The only con thing for all such USB speakers is that you can only use it with a computer, not a portable music player.

The logitech x-140 speakers are excellent for general use. I use my PC for work and tracking finances, so I don't need speakers to blast music or audio for games. These speakers are great for what I need.

I bought these speakers at a local retailer and am very happy with them. I had originally bought them to go with my laptop computer but have since bought an MP3 player and plan to purchase a second set so I can use them with both.They have an awesome bass range when you turn the tone switch all the way over to the full bass setting. I have a makeshift desk for my laptop - translation: a board over the seat of a kitchen chair - and I did feel a rumble in the board when I was sampling MP3s earlier. These also sound great with my MP3 player and with them set up on each side of my bed, they sound a bit like surround sound. Really cool!I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a good speaker at a great price!

very impressive speaker and for [...]$ (47 with [...]$ rebate) makes them absolutely a steal deal. i reviewed all kind but they are too good for there price of even 20 to [...]$. salient features for the deal.1. total price [...]$(if my rebate comes back). carrying case would be worth [...]$ if bought from somewhere locally.2. Sound quality is very decent if not bose like.3. they are USB.i would have loved a remote along but i guess that would be too much to ask for [...]$ speakers.

I recieved my Logitech Z-5500's yesterday, and as any sane person I was very happy to unpack the box and hook up the system to my computer. I currently own the Z-680's which are the older version of the Z-5500's and they are awesome, I just wanted the new shinny speakers and bigger subwoofer. So I'm setting the system up, I start to play a bass heavy song and the sub sounds PATHETIC. At first I thought,"huh, maybe I don't have the settings right..", unfortunatly that was not the case. I tried playing a song through my ipod with the exact same settings on my old system as on the new. My old one was going crazy with the bass, however with the new one I basically had to turn on the ipod bass booster EQ and turned up the bass level on the control pod to even make it so I could hear the bass. On the packaging of the box it says to not be placed by the Aircraft compass, but why? Well you see it will demagnitize your subwoofer seeing as subs use magnets to work. So if you have experienced this problem, that's probably why.. people not paying attention to the stickers on boxes that say FRAGILE, or DON'T PLACE NEAR AIRCRAFT COMPASS.In order to resolve this problem either contact Logitech directly and explain the problem or contact the store you ordered it from to ask for an exchange. I was able to do that and now I'm waiting for my new system yet again. It appears that only 1 in 500 experience this problem.But don't let this sway you from buying this system, it's trebble and surround sound is amazing. You can't go wrong with buying these speakers. And i'm sure the bass is just as amazing, I just haven't heard it. And that's why it gets 2 stars, for having to deal with this non-sense. It's not logitech's fault, rather UPS'

I purchased this product to use with my laptop computer.The product ordering, payment, shipping and receipt went as planned.The product itself was better than I had expected. The carrying case is stylish and stores the connecting cables and speakers safely for storing on the shelf or when traveling on the road. The volumne and sound qualify is good for a small set of speakers. Setup is easy.

Bought for my work truck to listen to internet radio.Sounds great! Don't use for music so I can't comment on how that sounds. Only wish it had an on/off button instead of just a volume control. Have to pull out of usb port to shut off.

The speakers seem to work well. It is convenient to plug into the USB only. The speakers are too big for traveling. I really thought these were a little smaller, similar to the ones I have seen at the local computer store. I probably should have looked at the size a little closer before purchasing. After upgrading to a new system, I found that my old 4.1 speaker set was no longer compatible with my sound card. So it was time for an upgrade. I looked at some of the wireless speaker systems, but there were always issues with interference and hissing. I finally decided on this high-quality system from Logitech. I was able to get it with Super Saver shipping, quite a nice deal with such a large item! And this is quite a big package, with a HUGE subwoofer, 5 speakers and the control center, plus all the wires, etc. I was worried about the cables being long enough to handle the distances needed with my fairly large office, and having a computer that is some distance from the center control panel. And the subwoofer of course needing to be a good distance from the computer/monitor as well. And indeed, the cables that came with it were not sufficient. No problem though, a quick trip to Radio Shack and I had the 3 extension cords I needed to get it hooked up the way I wanted. And wow, what an experience it is to have it all hooked up for the first time and get that great surround sound filling the room! The sound is great, and the control panel really nice to have sitting right close at hand for quick and easy adjustments, or to plug in an iPod or other external device. I particularly like having a lighted power button, a really nice way to quickly turn the speakers on and off without having to search for the right button or menu option.Bottom line, this is a superb speaker set, at a great price.

I am very impressed with these speakers. I have not yet gotten a digital connection, but I can't wait. The sub is quite powerful, but not as big as so many people mention. I have a little hiss from my front right satellite, but I think I can fix that. I got the speakers refurbished, so that is why they're like that. The controller is very nice to have and I use it all the time, and I'm in a small room. I just like to be adjusting the volume wherever I am. Like others have said, the midrange is a little lacking, but its so small of a problem that it doesn't matter, unless your an audiophile. It would bother you then. The control box is very nice and has quite a bit of good functions. You can select input, the effect of the audio, the settings for the input, the volume level of the Sub, Center speaker, and back two surround speakers, mute, adjust the master volume, and Turn the whole system to standby. Also it can go very loud. I keep my computer volume all the way turned up so I only listen to the speakers turned up about 4 bars. There are 20 total bars and 11 boost bars. I don't know if the speakers can take going that loud, but I know that my ears can't. I don't like listening to music very super loud, but I know that I can anytime I want. The Subwoofer. The sub is a ten inch long throw woofer. Looking straight at the woofer, Its 13 inches tall, 13 inches wide, and 18 inches back (including the cooling fins and speaker grill). The cooling fins must be 6 inches away from anything (according to the manual). They are 1.5 inches long, 9 inches tall, and 8 inches wide. There are the five wire connectors for the speakers which are labeled for easy assembly. There is also the connection for the control pod, the power cable, a fuse, and a master power switch on it. The Satellites The satellites are 3 inch drivers with a metal spike in the middle that doesn't move. The center speakers stand twists up and down for wall mounting and aiming the speaker. The rest of them only point one way unless you want to wall mount them. Then you just twist the base counterclockwise and it twists up. There are no included screws for wall mounting though. Speaker Wire length: Front left/right and center-15'(4.6m) Back left/right-25'(7.6m) Direct Connection Cable: 7 feet with three mini connectors on each end. DSUB cable: 7 feet. This is the cable that connects the control pod to the Subwoofer. The Remote The remote has 16 bottons. Power, Test (sends hissing sound through all the speakers one by one), Direct input, Optical input, coax input, effect, settings, sub + and -, center + and -, surround + and -, main volume + and -, and Mute. Its about six inches long and two inches wide. It takes two AAA batteries. Also it doesn't go through objects but it can bounce around if pointed right. I'm not sure how far the remote reaches because I went all the way to the other side of my house and it still worked. Thats more than fifty feet. I am very happy with my purchase. I only paid [...] dollars for it with free shipping refurbished off of Ebay. It costs [...] at Best Buy so I'm very glad that I found it at that price. I recieved it very fast too. Nothing except for a little bit of hiss out of the front right speaker is wrong with it either. I recommend this product to everyone. :-)

I just purchased this speaker set to replace an older Logitech speaker set I had. Initially, I was very disappointed with this system. The "6 Channel" hookup did not work well with my laptop that only has USB and headphone outputs. The older Logitech system I was replacing plugged into the headphone jack and provided great sound, I just wanted something louder, with more bass. When I opened the Z-5500 box, I noticed it only had the 3 prong connector. I plugged 1 prong into the headphone jack on my M-Audio Fast Track output system I have connected to my laptop and only the sub and 2 speakers worked. The sound quality was inferior compared to the older Logitech I had and I was frustrated. I didn't give up. I went out and purchased a couple headphone splitters for $10 a piece (which was the highest quality @ Comp USA that did not include individual volume controls) and attached the first splitter to my headphone jack. I then connected the second splitter into one of the 1st splitter's jacks. This gave me 3 headphone inputs to the laptop. I connected the the 3 plugs from the speaker outputs and turned on some music. The sound was wonderful. All 5 speakers putting out high quality music and the sub shaking the floor! Of course this method does not provide true surround because all the speakers are receiving the same signal, but it sounds wonderful. I think I prefer getting the same beautiful sound out of all 5 speakers over the true 5.1 surround sound. With the 5.1 surround, I have noticed speakers having little or no use numerous times. Hooking it up this way, all 5 speakers are continually putting out great, full sound. I've only had it up and running for a few hours but it is working very well! I'm very happy with this product.

First off the bat I rate this product a 4 because of the price, not the sound.The system is completely missing the mid-range of the spectrum. You can make up for it somewhat by using your sound cards graphic equalizer. Make no mistake there is a problem in that area.As other reviewers have noted, the back cords are way to short. We hung ours from the basement ceiling so that wasn't a problem.Also most of the software out there does not support 5.1. Some do and for those programs is sure can be a lot of fun!The speakers look nice, heck fact they look, well kind of cool. They also work good for the price and if this is your budget, consider this system. But for goodness sakes if you can spend more money get something else.Good luck and don't forget as Red Green says, "if the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy".Mike

Its very useful as my laptop (Inspiron 1525) inbuilt speakers are not very effective and media controls at the speakers are good in controlling the player without getting into laptop (could have distinguished the button symbols in clear colors, very difficult to spot out each)Other than the hissing sound at high audio level, I'm overwhelmed on the performance at medium sound.

Very good PC speakers for the price. Very impressed with performance. Amazon even beat tigerdirect on price when I purchased it. Then tigerdirect had a special sale after that and was a little lower than the Amazon price. Amazon has good prices, but with special sales you might do better somewhere else.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Oh and Did I mention WOW ?I have three cables for 5.1 going from my sound card into the box. I have the digital out going from the soundcard, into the logitech for 5.1 dvd movies through my computer. As well i have fiber optic coming out of my sattelite into the setup box so i can listen to 5.1 while watching tv. Maybe not 5.1 but emulate pro logic it sounds great. So im definetly making use of all the inputs on the back of this baby.This has a lot of features, and different modes you can use. It has Stereo (which is just front l/r speakers outputting sound), Stereo 2(front left/right, rear left/right), Pro logic II Movie (i dunno? As well it's easy to scroll through the inputs Coax, Direct 6channel, optical.The remote it comes with is pretty useful you can adjust volume, sub levels, surround output (dont know what this does yet). It is wicked fun!I paid $270 shipped from Amazon (forget ripoff COMPUSA), got it in TWO Days. I love audio always have, always will. This was a 5.1 for my computer, but I also wanted 5.1 for movies that I watch in my room.This comes with cables for analog games which is how games output. However I bought a coaxial for digital out for games, and a fiber optic cable for my sattelite to the box. Total cost through circuit city $70. Total cost through amazon $30. Shop amazon! :)Initial impression------------------Lets just say setup wasen't easy. It is pretty standard, connect one speaker, another speaker, another speaker. it just takes a while to light up everything connect everything. It took me probably 1 1/2 hours, but i took breaks to vacuum and relocate my pc so everything would fit in fine. The speaker cables are big, but my front left wasen't long enough. So i bought a little extension 6' cable so I could hide it nicely. I didn't use any gold connection cable just regular circuit city $4.99 for 6'.Also this setup is large and man impressive. The sub is massive stands just taller then a 2 liter bottle of coke, and maybe 3 bottles across x 3 1/2 bottles deep.Games-----I have connected this with the included three direct cables to get 5.1 sound from my games. It works great it's loud, it thumps, and it scared my sister when she was sitting here and a zombie came up behind her in Doom 3. It's loud, it's clear. I dont know about 500 watts, i've had it to max and it's loud, but 500 watts? Who knows, it's really loud and i'm happy with it anyways. Sounds fantastic and as you move around in games i can see sound shift from one speaker to the other, it fills the room great, and if you've never had a nice speaker setup (with a sub) your in for a surprise. This is a lot of speaker, and will easily last 3 years unless you must have the newest and greatest setup every year.DVD's-----I also have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum. I had initially planned to hookup the front plate which has a Digital Coax out so when I played DVD's it would play 5.1 sound. However that dosen't work, I played with it a lot and it wont work. However, my 5.1 card has a digital output on the back of it, I bought a 0.99 cent mono adapter from radio shack and run a coaxial cable from the digital out of the sound card into the standalone cool set top receiver. Now when I play dvd's on my computer (didn't want to buy an additional dvd player for my room) it outputs 5.1 clean signal to my settop box that came with the logitech and that decodes either a dolby digital or dts signal. Works brilliant. Sound is clear, loud, shakes the walls, shakes the room.TV--I've got optical going from sattelite into this baby. Sounds great, emulates 5.1 through pro logic or stereo or stereo2. Works fine works great, sports sound great. I always loved 5.1.Comparison-----------I was torn between this setup and the Klipsch 5.1 Ultra which is similarly priced, and also a 5.1 setup. I ultimately chose these because of the various input connectors on the setup box. If I chose the klipsch i couldn't hookuped my sattelite to it, or my dvd's wouldn't decode in 5.1 they would be strictly analogue. Sound quality wise i have a set of 2.1 klipsch (200 watt)for sale, they sound great, but aren't 5.1.I also have a 5.1 setup for my home theater a sony 500 watt setup. That's with the big screen. Comparison wise? Hard to say, that one is about 3 years old but still sounds great (paid $600 with receiver). This definetly compares to it, and i'm more tempted to watch movies upstairs because this subwoofer is awesome. However I got the big screen downstairs and it comfortably seats 10 of my buddies so we'll be hanging out downstairs also. So I would say this definetly can go head to head with the home theater in a box $500 setups out there. Im not so sure about the $1500+ setups though. This is a very nice set of surround sound speakers for your pc or game console. I am very pleased with mine. I bought these because i had looked at them in Best Buy before and they had excellent sound and capable of excellent bass also. Many people have said they don't have long enough speaker cables but i actually thought they were pretty generous with the amount supplied. Great buy for the money!!

Great for PC or home theater setupI have both versions of the way the speakers hook up to subI run one on my quad core PC.The speakers work great with an Audigy 2 ZS PLT PRO with external hub and I run off Fiber Optical.I also have my PS2 on the setup and works great with speakers as well.I do encodes of movies with zero compression of date to a Dual layer DVD its like a store copy with no coverFor music I like best Stereo 2x 4 speakers and sub)Overall the optic picks what the movie needs and just does it.Overall on PC outstanding and functions very well at all aspects of use.Set 2 is on my LCD 40in Samsung HD 1080P+Direct tv and Blue rayand a Xbox on optical.All HD is 5.1 non HD they run 1x stereo,yet with theses boys I can make that 2x stereo 2L 2R sub instead of 1L 1R subSounds greatMade wellWorks with a lot of devicesHas tons of optionsCant go wrong

I have purchased this item only because Logitech was offering a $40 mail-in rebate, which made it irresistable. Overall, it is an OK product with OK sound quality. However, at higher volumes, the sound quality suffers significantly. I will keep it only because it was a good deal. I would have returned it otherwise.

I just wanted some cheap speakers for listening to my music and watching videos once in a while on my computer. I'm not a musician or anything, but I do have thousands of songs from blues to classical to rock to hiphop. I ordered these speakers, and I have to say this is some of the best $25 I've ever spent. It's hardly the $300 surround sound system I have connected to my TV, game platform, CD and DVD players, but for a set of speakers in this price range to be able to pick up even the low bass at the start of the theme from "Jaws" is pretty remarkable.If you just need something inexpensive for your computer or gaming system, I honestly can't imagine a better choice than these. Highly recommended.
