Amazon is the best place for me.Very good prices and as i found outwith my last purchase unequaled customer service.Any time i buy something from the web it's going to be Amazon first.As for the Logitech Z-5500 is a great system. The control pod turns offby itself but they are working on replacin the board.

These speakers are a great value for the price. Don't expect "boomin" volume but I was surprised by the bass and midrange "kick" these little puppies have. It sounds like these guys come with some sort of invisible subwoofer! Bonus points for: sturdy/functional carrying case, no power cord required (runs via USB cable) and solid feel of speakers themselves. I've become an Itunes junkie recetnly and your songs will sound completely differnt/better through these vs. your stock laptop speakers! Give them a shot.

these seriously are great speakers for the $...they are not ridiculously loud, but I bought them to provide nice background music for the house---they are very clear and loud enough for our purpose. Not recommended for house parties, but does the trick while housecleaning, playing games, chillando, etc

For my purposes, basically listening to internet music or sports while I work, I couldn't have purchased a better product. The price was excellent, quality seems very good and they were very easy to install, just plug in a USB plug. No power cord necessary, all power is from my computer. Once again, I'm not big into loud music so I'm very pleased. If you need speaker like I use them then you can't go wrong.

One of the speakers was initially received damaged, however the issue was quickly resolved and the speaker was replaced. Overall, it was a very positive purchase.

Very convenient with carry case, adequate sound even for fairly large rooms. I like the on-speaker controls; not just volume, but also can pause, stop, and skip to tracks forward and back.

They sound is amazing and the price is just right! I bought mine about 2 years ago and I use them heavily for music, movies and gaming with a sb audigy 2 zs. So far there is no degradation in quality. Two of my friends loved them so much they have their own set now as well.

I have to say these speakers are astounding. For such a small price, I feel I got triple of what I paid for; and I've been around the block with speakers before. Logitech has yet to let me down, and these speakers only increase my customer satisfaction. Comes with an in-speaker headphone jack and a really nice futuristic design. Everything is well compact and easy to handle. I may even like this better than the Boston brand!

I ordered this system of off Amazon on Dec. 31, 269.99 with free shipping, and got it on Jan. 5. Amazon had an estimate for Jan. 10-12, so thanks to Amazon and UPS! Now for the speakers: Awesome. They are one of the best speaker systems for computers that you can buy. They even rival similar priced Home Theater Systems. Setup of the system is simple: Not only are the speakers labeled on the back for posistion, but also have color coded ends that match on the sub. The speakers are elegantly designed and the sub is massive. And when I mean massive, I mean the earth-shaking, eardrum-blowing, take-up-space massive. The control pod is also very well designed and easy to use. Inputs and Outputs are all on the control pod: 6 channel RCA, coax., optical, headphones, and mini-digital inputs. Which speaking of inputs, it has a 6 channel/Stereo 1-3 switch....thats right, either connect to computer OR hook up three input devices at one time: iPods, mini disc players, w/e...Speakers themselves are twistable so they are extremely easy to wall mount if you want to. Now for the big one: sound quality. These speakers sound amazing. I mean absolutely amazing. You expect and get high quality sound all the time. The mid-range, which some people say this system is weak on, is not that much weaker unless you are really want a good mid-range system. The bass is amazing and definitely full. Now, all of these speakers have ton of options. For instance, you have stereo mode (front 2), Stereo 2x (front and rear 2, which means the same thing plays from front left and back laft), Dolby Digital PLS Movie, and Dolby Digital Music. Now, from here, you can change options such as Panorama, Dimension settings (controls Front to rear), the width of the center speaker (narrower means the speaker is centered closer to the center, giving it a louder more direct sound), level change of the sub (more or less responsive), surround level (more = aimed towards rear speakers), and center level (controls center speaker). Also, inputs are easy to go to...just press the button! Remote that comes with this is basic and enough things to make it work, however it doesn't do justice to the rest of the system. Then again, wireless remote is optional, so i'm happy anyway. So in general, these are some awesome speakers. I have mine in my dorm room connected to an USB Soundblaster Audigy 2 NX sound card by optical cable. Which speaking of sound cards, you have to have one that supports surround minimum. Also, the better the sound card, the better the sound. Mine works 96-24 on 6 channel. So the only things to consider when buying this is money to put out. Expect Amazon's pricing to flucuate between 250 and 320. Also, if you don't have a soundcard, my USB Soundblaster for my laptop cost 120. The digital optical cable cost another 20. So it does add up in accessories. But these speakers are worth it.....and don't think about the Klipstech 5.1 Ultra. I tried these at Best Buy...the Logitech 5300e had a better sounding sub than these.So happy shopping. In general: these speakers are worth every penny. I will definitely have these for all of my high school and college years, and I'm sure they will last. These speakers are the best speakers for this range of prices.EDIT: 3 years later....Sadly, I must say that these speakers are gone. During a vacation away from home, we had a thunderstorm send a power surge through the electrical lines. The surge protector was useless as the surge was enough to go through that unit, the subwoofer, and one of the speakers. The fuse was completely ruined in the sub, along with its internal components. So right now I'm holding off on waiting to replace the sub and speaker as these speakers have had too long of a shelf life span and will undoubtedly be getting replaced by Logitech in the near future.

overall the sound quality is better than other computer speaker system, sharp and crip. you can def hear surround effectthe only thing that i'm concerned is bass - not enough power to pump up bass, but is decent enough as long as you plug into optical

These are awesome for small desk use. They work great as multimedia speakers, and the bass really adds to the music when using your computer as a jukebox. They're also very easy to carry around and you can even plug them into an iPod with no problems!Pros:CheapPowerfulPortableCons:None

Bought as a gift for a 16 YO son out of state. I haven't heard the speakers, but my son is very pleased with them. He uses them as room speakers with a Walkman CD vs. as PC speakers.

This speaker set may seem like a good bargain for the money, but the sound quality is very poor and I was very dissapointed.Next time, I'll spend a little more and get a Klipsch THX system or a more expensive Logitech.Not even worth the $60.

I've owned many computer speakers over the years, and the Logitech X-230 are one of my favorites for their combination of price and design. They look modern and streamlined, and pack enough punch for most all desktop uses. I bought 3 sets of these x-230s over the last six months, to replace older, bulky, clunkier 3-piece speaker sets. The new ones sound much better than what they replaced.Crank them all the way up, and you will notice the relatively weak middle range, but it's still very crisp and clear and hard to complain about at this price. These speakers are identical to the non-OEM (fancy box) version of the product, only the external packaging is different.The only minor drawbacks, that are addressed in Logitech's more expensive speakers, are:- the bass volume control is on the sub-woofer unit rather than on the speaker with the regular volume control- the fixed cable connecting to the two speakers to each other is relatively short. Not a problem unless you have an unusual desktop design (such as dual wide-screen flat-panels).But for their quality, these speakers are downright inexpensive. Recommended.

This speaker system sells at a great price and its looks are attractive. At low volume the speakers sound good. That's about the extent of the system's positive qualities.I should have taken the negative reviews of this item more seriously. Since I didn't, I'm taking the time to write this hoping that YOU WILL. Read all of them before you spend your money AND realize that most of the negative reviews repeat the same messages. Also, I'm no technical expert, but I am a music lover (& sometimes I enjoy listening to my music at moderate to loud levels) and I can easily distinguish between quality sound and poor quality sound.I copied a few lines from the "bad" reviews below, because they said it so well, and I added my comments below them.(1) The speakers sound fantastic, up to a certain volume level, at which point they begin to show deficiencies in bass and mid-range response.(2) Messy, unfocused trebleVery little mid rangeBig, boomy, inaccurate bass(3) Bad Treble and Muddy SoundAbsolutely TRUE. I cannot stress this enough. The volume is good up to about 40% of its max, then sound becomes distorted. The tweeters' sound is poor, at best, from the mid-range up.The bass is the worst part of the system. It literally RATTLES. You heard me right, IT RATTLES, and annoyingly so. Who in his right mind wants to listen to a rattling speaker? At first I searched my computer area for what was rattling, then I realized it was the bass speaker! Unbelievable that in the year 2006 a company would produce a bass speaker that rattles like this. I have never owned a worse bass speaker.If you want to listen to your music at a very low volume, then save your money by keeping your factory speakers. My cheap $15 Creative speakers that I purchased a few months ago sound better than these. That's why I have packaged them up and they are being returned.If you don't care about quality sound when listening to music at a moderate level, then maybe these are the speakers for you. However, if you are a music lover like I am, and you want to enjoy listening to your music collection, look elsewhere because you will be disappointed with these speakers.

I use these speakers on two laptops,a Acer with Vista Home Premium and a Toshiba with Vista Home Basic. Both computers recognized the speakers immediately. The speakers work very well, and they have given me no trouble at all. Again, these speakers are certified for Windows Vista.

I bought these last Fall to replace a cheap "fake 5.1" set of speakers I had purchased some years earlier to go with my PS2, back when I didn't really know much about audio.Since then I've learned a lot, and really, these Z-5500's are fantastic. Logitech goes on and on proclaiming how THX certification is a wonder thing, blah blah. But when you put in a Dolby Digital or DTS DVD and crank these up, you'll realize what they're talking about. It really does sound like you're in a movie theater.I can't imagine wanting anything more than these for a 5.1 all-in-one system. I saw some reviews that claimed they really aren't as loud as most people say. Well I have to say that's not true. I haven't dared to turn the volume up past about 50%, because by that point I'm probably already seriously disturbing the neighbors. On my first "real" test I was watching The Fellowship of the Ring. You know in the prologue, the scene where Sauron is defeated and a huge explosion levels the battlefield? The entire ROOM was vibrating. Any louder and things just MIGHT have started to fall over. After that, I decided to turn the bass down a few notches (from its default position) for the remainder of the movie.The bass isn't "boomy" at all, it's rich, and blends very discreetly with the rest of the audio (as do the other 5 speakers-it's very natural sounding, if they're positioned right). However, at lower volumes the bass might be a little too absent for some.These speakers sound absolutely amazing at moderate to loud volumes for:-DVDs with Dolby Digital or DTS audio-PS2, GameCube, or Xbox games with Dolby ProLogic II, Dolby Digital, or DTS audio (the GameCube is only capable of analog stereo/DPLII, but Resident Evil 4 sounded really great and the rear speakers were doing their job pretty well)-High Definition Digital Cable shows which feature Dolby Digital (Law & Order, CSI, Lost, etc.)-Of course regular stereo sounds fine too, it just doesn't shine like the others do.Music isn't quite as impressive sounding on these, but it's very far from bad. Just don't use the 2x sound mode, or ProLogic II "Music Mode." They're pretty lame.A few extra things to note:-Yes, there tends to be a "pop" or "thud" when switching between sound modes or inputs. It's not annoying to me, nor that loud.-No buzzing coming from the speakers when silent. This is good.-The subwoofer is bigger than you think it is, even if you think it is quite big already.-I sincerely wish there were more than two digital inputs. If you have more than two devices which you want to get digital audio from, you may want to look into some sort of digital audio switcher/selector. Honestly, this is the same problem many HDTV's have (not enough component video inputs).Bottom line: If you're looking for a complete 5.1 setup that can provide stereo, 6-channel direct, Dolby ProLogic II, Dolby Digital, DTS, and DTS 96/24 audio decoding, THEN LOOK NO FURTHER AND BUY THESE NOW. ^_^ Don't forget to get some digital audio cables though.

I am writing this review almost a year after I purchased these for my son's mp3 player. I am amazed at the quality for only $18, you can't beat it. The subwoofer provides great sound enhancement. They also work perfectly with our ipod and laptop.

Yes, the hook-up to the computer could not be simpler. The sound is very good for a purely USB-driven speakers, and plenty loud for my office. The traveling case is cute and easily fits into the laptop case. The only draw-backs are that the short cords allow only for a maximum separation of three feet between the speakers, and the volume controls are knobby push buttons that are not very easily controlled. I would much prefer a dial. Aside from these quibbles, its a good pair.

I got this speaker set on a whim to replace my old Monsoon 2.1 set. At first, I was not so impressed and I wondered if I had to return the set, but after tweaking my audio settings, the Monsoons pale in comparison to these speakers. The mids are a little lacking, but by simply changing your equalizer settings, they sound great. The subwoofer is the most impressive part of the set, hitting those lows like a champ without any distortion.My only complaint is that due to the light weight of the satellites and the high tension of the power button, I find myself having to hold the satellite to turn the system on and off. Otherwise, I end up dragging the speaker across my desk!I actually have all 5 satellites working off my laptop by tricking them into thinking I have a decent audio source (ha!). Just by using a miniplug-to-RCA adapter and connecting a regular RCA audio plug (the red and white plugs) into the provided "RCA splitter," I get all of the speakers working. Of course I don't get real 5.1 sound (but you wouldn't unless you went digital, which these speakers can't do anyway), but I get that all-important center channel working. The speakers still split up the sound frequencies and channels accordingly to the different satellites.Overall, I am extremely pleased with these speakers.

I bought this speaker system for a new computer I just Purchased. The setup was really easy. I like the control unit that sits on the desk. It is so easy to control the volume or plug in a headset if I listen to music late at night. I am surprised how big the wolfer is. It takes up a lot of space. The units are built very well. I have had it for a couple of months and have no complaints.

The speakers are OK, just don't expect them to be very loud. I keep mine turned all the way up and adjust volume through my computer. Even when both are turned all the way up, the sound is not heard well one room over. Good speakers, easy to install, intended for use at desk only.

These speakers rock! I bought them for playing music on my brand new MacBook and couldn't be happier. The matrix mode, which automatically creates 5.1 surround sound, sounds fantastic and I only have to turn the bass up half way for a good solid bass tone. Also, the control center makes for changing your settings supper easy. I know Best Buy sells this speaker system for about $103.00 so you really can't get a better price than this.

In the world of dying computer speaker systems you have to take what you get (seems there are less and less good models to choose from than in the past nowadays.) I picked these between my top 2 choices and am not dissapointed by my choice, but not exactly thrilled by it either. The volume can go up, but not much higher than another lower cousin Logitec 5.1 that's 2+years old and 1/3 the size subwoofer that just uses the reg jacks and not the optical. I also have a 4.1 Boston set(Digital) on the same computer (making 14 speakers total now and 3 subs.)The timing is not off though and syncs with the other 2 speaker sets that I have (conversion of electric signals to light and back again has been a claimed downside of fiber optic use.) Only slight knock on the sync is that when you FIRST start playing something or a sound kicks in it comes outa a "Sleep mode" and is later than the rest of the speakers (say a 2 second sound and you'd only get 1 second once it realizes something is coming in so you hear that back end of the sound with the front cut off.) It is the most powerful that I have of course and the options on the "HANDY DANDY" little controller that it comes equipped with has a few good bits about it. Clarity seems to be ok, going to up my sound end on the computer soon (Intel Perl board with int Opt+Dig+5.1 sound.) Then I can really find out what I can hear from these things.You even get a remote for these speakers..remote... for what? If it could control Media Player or iTunes or something like the keyboard (Logitec Media KB)then the remote would be something of use. The controller is a seperate unit, not being directly attached onto any speakers so you can put it anywhere so I would think it would be placed somewhere within reach making a remote pointless. Anyway, that being said I'd have to say that the majority of my want was filled but the extra fat on it could have been better used.

honestly, i just got this system to have a loud system to annoy my roommate, but after a month, i cannot believe the quality of sound i can get out of the speakers. Im currently training to become an electrical engineer, and with only a few minor tweaks, and some handy equalizer work, these speakers sound just as good as my home-made studio monitors, for half of the price. If you know your way around a soundboard, and you know who you are, buy this system, you wont believe the hidden capability it holds.

I just purchased these speakers from an office supply store.I agree with all the previous reviews: don't expect High Fidelty speakershere. Do expect easy to transport speakers for your notebook. Theseare a step above my Toshiba Satellite built in speakers, but don't matchmy desktop's speakers in terms of bass. The USB connection is what you arepaying for, not the sound quality.

First 20 minutes was GREAT! But then the sound started skipping...no sound for a second then sound then no sound for 2 seconds and so on. Sorry, but the inexpensive ($50) Altec Lansing I bought with the system played as hard for HOURS with NO problems! I figured that this system would just be OUTSTANDING and ended up with the biggest disappointed I've had this year. Pathetic. With all the trouble shooting I did it came down to the amp not being able to stay cool enough to have 3/4 volume being continous volume being pumped through it. So if you don't mind listing to the speakers at 1/4 to 1/2 volume then go ahead and buy this system.

Great sound for the size/price. I needed a hotel companion for my ipod... These are perfect for the task. No, there won't be any bowel-shaking bass, or roaring parties...but that's not their task. Toss em in your luggage, and have some tunes when you arrive. Forget the gimmicky dock speakers, and spend your cash on the actual speakers, and not the dock, charging, remote etc.Good stuff. Compact. Decent sound. CHEAP!

awesome product. great sound clarity. easy to install. the rear spkrs don't make much difference if you don't have a 5.1 sound card o/p. great for the price. highly recommend it.

I do alot of comparison shopping. Sometimes it will take me months to make a final decision. Well, with the Logitech Z-5500, I made no exception. So, when my OEM Boston Acoustics bit the dust, I suddenly found computer speakers on the top of my wishlist. I have to say, I made the best choice! I have also learned that if the label is Logitech, it is quality!Out of the box, which was huge and heavy, I was amazed! The images you see on the web do these spaekers no justice esp. since aesthetics were just as important as sound quality. I was afraid the control unit would look cheap and plastic. Nope, it's solid and looks handsom on my cherry wood desk. It is alot of work to set-up though. It's easy, just time intesive with all the wires and plastic sleaves.The speakers stand about 10 inches with rubber skids so they stay-put. And they are one unit with the legs so they do not fall apart when touched, like the Boston Acoustics.The Control Center stands about 11-12 inches. It's five buttons are pretty simple and straight forward. The volume dial is like those on an amplifier in a home stereo component system. Power On is Blue and Off is red. On the right hand side is an output for headphones and below that an input jack for an ipod or equipment of that ilk. You can hook it up with analogy jack (3) or the digital jack (1). Until you see the connectors, you don't really realize just how sturdy and powerful looking this system is!The Subwoofer, holy cow! It's big and heavy, so if you do not have space for it, start making room in a corner somewhere. Don't count on hiding it under a bed, couch or next to the computer case. It's too big for the first two and must be a minimum 2 feet away from any electronic equipment - that includes the computer!I would guestimate it as 2' x 1.5' x 1.5'.Then I fired it up. It rivals the Bose speakers in my home stereo system.I started with some Classical and was marveled by the depth. I kept turning it down and lowered the level on the base. Four notches up; I was afraid I'ld wake the neighbors. Then I tried some dance music. I imediately stopped that! I didn't need the police at my house. ha-ha. Then I popped in a DVD. Forget about it! It's Star Wars the way you NEVER heard it before, not even at the theatre! Finally, I played a game, no need to know which one. If you are a gamer, even if you have today's top of the line video card, you are REALLY missing something until you experience Logitech's Z-5500. It's a whole new level of realism I think we all overlook.When my partner got home, who thought I was nuts for spending this much money on speakers, I ran the same audio experience. The response? Big eyes and a dropped jaw. Now, I'm in danger of loosing my speakers to a ceiling projector TV. I hope Amazon can help me with a good deal on one of those.In sum, I've never heard sound this defined and clear.My only issue, I found these speakers cheaper elsewhere, retail; not refurbished. I informed Amazon about it & their price is still the same. But, for the most part, amazon is still one of the lowest prices with the best shipping cost. So, unless you qualify for a deal elsewhere...

Logitech X540 speakers use FDDZ technology to produce a uniform sound field anywhere in the room. This is my third set of Logitech speakers and this model is very nice. It is very professional looking and well made. The sound quality awsome and hookup was a breeze. I am a bass love and this has plenty of it and one of the best things about this unit is you have the ability to adjust the bass according to your preference. Would / have recommended it to people. Keep it up Logitech.
