Having never owned a 5.1 pair of speakers before, I was pretty intrigued by the concept for a computer and when my old Logitech 2.1 speakers finally died on me I went for these speakers instead of another 2.1 pair and haven't looked back. The bass is simply incredible for speakers this price. In the dorms I consistently have to turn the bass almost all the way down to avoid annoying my hallmates, but on a saturday nice it's nice to be able to turn up the bass to 11 and make the windows rattle. The sound is nice and crisp when you have it set up right, but don't expect the "matrix" feature to replicate actually having a 5.1 card, just go ahead and spend the $10 or so to get a real card and you'll notice the difference. Something that the packaging doesn't say is that it comes with a 3.5mm to RCA sound adapter so you can hook it up to a TV or game system. Overall it's a great system for a great price.

I expected a prodeuct that would deliver some sound but not anything exceptional. After all, my investment was a modest one and it was intended for a desktop PC. I was wrong! These speakers are fantastic, and I can control the tone too. They're not a so-so product. I found that they are top notch in their class.

If you are looking for amazing speakers for your PC or game console, and want to keep an amazing amount of money in your pocket, look no further then these! If you are familiar with the quality of Logitech, then you already know we don't need to review that, because it is Grade A. Ill just sum it up with this, CRISP,CLEAN, BRILLIANT 5.1 surround sound with plenty volume to go 'round. And seriously $80?!?!? I thought I was dreaming until they arrived at my door.. with lightning speed might I add thanks to Amazon and UPS.You will love them.

I expected more from it... Sound is terrible and so plastic! not possible to enjoy music with this speakers. No sound/effects/volume adjustments helped, it is still making dzzzzzzz sounds even on low volume

These speakers are awesome. I have a Dell m1210 laptop, which has horrible built in sound.By contrast, I plugged in my Logitech V20 and boom--everything sounded so much better. I'm not an audiophile, so I can't give a rating about the frequencies and such, but, I listen to music 6-8 hours a day (usually a combination of indie rock, drum and bass, and female vocalists), and I was happy with these speakers.There's a small annoyance in how Windows handles USB speakers--you have to restart your audio player whenever you unplug or plug in the speakers. But my much, much bigger annoyance is that the speakers vibrate.When I'm listening to something with even slightly heavy base (I'm talking Regina Spektor here, not rap) at a decent/loudish volume, the speakers will actually move while on my desk. And continue to move, onto the floor, at times, or knocking stuff off my desk if I'm not paying attention.Absolutely ridiculous. Luckily, I'm a college student, so I have plenty of heavy textbooks around--I just put one on top of each speaker and problem solved. But, I would be happier if the speakers had better traction.All in all, great purchase, especially for the price.

I got this speaker System at Circuit City (R.I.P) a couple years ago. They sound great but the Cords are just way to short and makes it so no matter what you possibly do you cannot set these speakers up CORRECTLY! just every Cord is too short even the control and it's Hardwired in like i said you cant really do anything to remedy it

It is a very versatile, very powerful, very decent quality set, for a pc or ps3 or other game console or even for a home theater.Unless you are a pro and have thousands of dollars to spare, this is it.Pro:1.Digital interface. A digital decoder is a big plus. Since i use my laptop to drive it for most of the time (T61p through SPDIF inter face), i do not need a fancy sound card to fully appreciate this speaker.2.Cheap,3.Stylish design, depend on personal taste, but fit with my monitors (dell 2408w) and key boards well.4.Powerful and tight low end,Con:1.med range is not enough.2.no auto room calibration.3.heavy. the sub woofer is big and very heavy.Though i list a lot of cons, doesn't mean i hate it, i just want to be as neutral and objective as possible.in a word, highly recommended to anyone.

I hooked this up and it was replacing my 2.1 system. Man does this thing rock. For the price you simply can't beat the quality that these speakers have. They have great low end and good mid, but the weird thing is when you really crank it the sound quality gets better! I would definitely recommend buying this if you can't afford the high end stuff. Great product, I am glad i bought it.

I bought these speakers as a gift for my girlfriend who, before receiving them, had been using her laptop speakers to listen to music. She thinks they sound fantastic, but I was not impressed. I think they are a decent value for the money as they are better than a cheap set of 2.0 speakers, but I think it would be worth spending a bit extra to get something better if you are somewhat sensitive to the clarity and bass of the sound from your speakers.

Great sound system. Not only do I have this set hooked up to my TV via optical but I have it hooked up to my computer as well using the standard cables. My only gripe is when I switch from HD channels to non-HD on my TV I have to turn off the system (either using the remote or power button) and then turn it back on. I don't know if thats because of my TV or this sound system. Either way I love it. =)

These speakers have very good sound, but set-up instructions were unclear. They said to just hook them up, but I had to experiment to get them to work; I hooked them up with my laptop off, then turned it on, and that worked.The carrying case is solid, but these are comparatively large speakers compared with others on the market. The controls on the top of the speaker are quite small and close together, so it's hard to operate them (when they're hooked up, they go on automatically when the laptop is turned on).Otherwise, a very good product.

After much research and budget of $75 to $150, I decided on the logitech X-540 system. Great speakers for the money. Amazon has the best deal and free shipping. Clear, crisp sound,good volume and worth every dime. Big improvement over my previous speakers. Easy installation and sounds great with my soundblaster sound card. You will need extra cables, [...] for great deal on all cables.

The Logitech X-540 5.1 Speaker System sounds good and is a good value. I recommend it as the sound system for a mini home theater setup for a pc. I use mine with a Blu-ray drive and HDMI capable 24 inch monitor.

These speakers are by far the best computer speakers I have ever owned. They are so good, they can easily be used as a complete home theatre system also. They sound amazing, so much so, that I ended up selling my Sony Receiver and surround speakers w/ powered 12" JBL subwoofer and replaced it with these speakers. It takes up less space, and if you are clever enough, you can hook up several things to it. I have my PC hooked up, which I use for Music, PC Gaming and DVD's. I also have my PS3 hooked up, which I use for Blu-Ray movies, DVD's, and gaming. I have an extra optical cable from my DVR which I occasionally switch out when ever there is a big game or good movie on TV that is worth watching with surround sound. Otherwise, my TV is hooked up directly to TV for sound. And to make it even better, you can hook up headphones to it and get sound that way. It also has a Aux input, so you can listen to your Ipod also. I purchase these on sale a while back for $199 so for the price I paid, I could not ask for more. I would easily pay more for this system. So if you are shopping around for computer speakers, these are the way to go!!! Awsome speakers, they do not distort, sound is sharp with very nice low bass, and you can hardly notice them when they are up on walls. Logitech is a very reputable company. I have many of their products, from keyboards, mouse, speakers, and headphones. I am very happy with all of them. I also have some Logitech Z-640 speakers that are going on 7 years now, still going strong and they sound great as well!!!!

I'll keep this short but i recently bought these speakers for around $80 and they are exactly what i was looking for. I needed some new speakers and i wasn't looking to spend a lot of money but i wanted something that sounded good at the same time. Now i'm sure someone with an ear for detail can find plenty of things to nitpick about but considering your only paying about 80 bucks i think the sound is phenomenal. I use it for gaming, listening to music (sound stays clear at high volumes) and watching movies, the surround sound is great it's the first time i've bothered with it but it is definitely nice to hear bullets whizzing by and such. It adds a whole new dimension to gaming/movies.

These speakers produce good sound for the money. My only gripe, and it's a small one, is that they're a little awkward to position. The arm that comes out of the back and the speakers themselves are rounded so the base is not a solid as it could be and since the cord is kind of stiff, the "move" if you don't give them enough slack.

Everyone has already said what I would have said about this absolutely awesome system so I'm just here to add my encouragement for those thinking about buying a new 5.1 system for their computer or as a home theater.I've been a career touring musician for over 30 years and am a sound recordist for film and TV by trade. So I guess you can say I know sound and love music. Movies are what I do and the sound to me is as important as the image.My old speakers were on their last electrons so I started intensive research on what was the best system for the money to get to replace the system I use on my computer. Everywhere I read pointed to this system. It has won awards on various technology websites and always is picked as the either the best system, or the best system for the cost. I still continued to read and there seemed to be nothing else that had everything going for it.Still, just ordering a sound system, site unheard, for ME, was a pretty risky venture. I actually should have gone to a brick and mortar store and had a listen but I was in a hurry and went ahead and just did it.Was it the right thing to do? Absolutely! I've since listened to systems at twice the price and they don't even come close. This is one killer system and I now see why it's garnered the praise and awards it has. The bass response will wake your neighbors, yet it's clear and crisp. The flexibility of settings is great. The outputs are just right. I really can't find anything negative to write about, except that the cable to the main controller could be longer.AND, it's just plain classy looking!So that's about all I can add to all the other praise and accolades. If you need to hear it, find it in a store, crank it up and put the Z-5500 through it's paces. Then come back to Amazon for the better price!

The sound is clear, loud and distortion free, I was pleasantly surprised that Logitech was capable of making such a good quality speaker system.My previous Klipsch Promedia 5.1 got clearly beat by a more modern richer sounding system with more usable power to boot. Not that Klipsch wasn't load, but the Z5500 gets to half the power level and full volume on the computer and is loud enough for almost any duty, any louder and you asking for trouble, not to speaker system but to ears!The former unit having developed some back ground noise distortion in its right front channel after being played loud for an extended period, it had previously performed admirably for 3 years of trouble free service.The positional sound was also good, I wasn't able to discern much difference to my old Klipsch unit, likely because the computer and sound card had remained the same. The remote control and digitally controlled panel were nice additions that made using the speakers easy and informative.The optical input was also clear once started, but I did notice a little lag during playback of sound or music. The Logitech optical input took just under a second to pick up the signal and start playing it through the speakers. Not sure why this was the case, maybe interpreting the signal was causing this delay, nevertheless, this annoying fact has stopped me from switching completely over to optical input. In fact this was the only negative issue I have discovered thus far.I can mostly certainly recommend this speaker system to anyway who likes to listen to quite music through a good quality sound card or to loud music distortion free, it does a fine job in both areas.

Survey said high bang-4-buck coefficient. Corroborated! Clean, crisp and good mid range. This a 2.0 system (no sub-woofer) and the 2.5" woofers although very responsive will not knock your tooth fillings loose. Fine with me. I use these speakers to listen casually and to deconstruct songs with the Amazing Slow Downer. They are plenty loud for personal listening and also work good as atmosphere for parties. If you're use to a 5:1 surround sound system or your $32,000 Klipsch home theater system, you're gonna find these a bit thin. However if you are looking for a couple of sweet desktop speakers that match the sound performance of last generations Panasonic college dorm set-up, you'll be satisfied, and possibly impressed. I was.

I am about to but different speakers... These are okay until turned up. Then the crackling sets in. I have seen smaller, cheaper speakers do much more. For the price I desired a little more. :(

My son is in War Craft all the time after work, and he said these speakers are GREAT! I love them, too...I don't think you should buy them if you are going to BLAST music, they're not that high tec, but for teens and adults who just want a NICE set of speakers for everyday use they are AWESOME for the PRICE!!!!!! Very easy hook up! YES... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!! They are VERY ATTRACTIVE, and nice size!

This is a really good set of computer speakers. I have not had an opportunity to use them with final Cut express yet but I bet they will do amazing. Excellent sound using i tunes and other web videos. The only thing I am worried about right not is if the headphone jack works. I tried using an ipod headphones in the port and it didn't work. I will wait to see if this is really a problem though when I get a nice pair to try out.

It just can't great the rich clean lows that a 2.1 system can unfortunately. But I suppose this is what you can get for 27.00 and such small speakers. They do beat laptop speakers and most ipod speakers though. I personally though find the bass to be just too irritating to like these speakers too much. Maybe considering going back to 2.1 system.

I owned these speakers for about five years, but it seems my control pod has failed. Logitech offers no way to replace it as I'm out of warranty.The most excellent feature of these speakers is the built-in Dolby DTS, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II modes. The set is an absolute steal for this reason alone.A major downside for me was the connection between the control pod and the subwoofer. You get about eight feet of cable between the two with no way to lengthen it. Reading the help pages, it appears that trying to do so voids your warranty. (Trying it probably caused my set to fail.) It seems strange that the device is so electrically fragile.I would really like to buy another set, but the limited control pod cord length and inability to fix my currently broken set have turned me away.

I'm pleased with their performance - they provide more sound and better sound quality than my laptop speakers, and they're powered by the usb connection. I use them to play audio files in a small classroom, and they're just right for that purpose. The compact design and simplicity of use are a big plus for me.

The big thing that is missing with these speakers is a LINE OUT! There is no way to use headphones when these are plugged in with iTunes on Windows Visa or 7 because it uses a single audio output, and won't output to the laptop line out and these USB speakers. HUGE MISTAKE by Logitec not to have a line out on these.

These speakers are great for music or games. They're especially good if you like to have strong base added to your music or games. I like the control knob on it that lets you adjust it quite well. The output jack on the speaker is a big plus too if you're using a desktop with connectors in hard to reach places.The speakers feel strong and sturdy. Great item for the price.UPDATE: Big problem discovered. When you insert any headphones into the headphone jack on the right speaker you will get loud background hissing, which is unrelated to the volume knob, which means you can't get rid of it. This means that the speakers are poorly shielded from the inside. Unless you open and modify them, there is no solution. This is a serious issue because if you want clear sound from the computer you have to plug the headphones directly into the computer, thus bypassing the speaker controls which a lot of people like to use.

Pros -These speakers are perfect for traveling in their very nice little case. I plugged them in and they sound great. They look great and stand up well with rubber coated feet. They display a large green volume bar on the screen while adjusting volume. Nice smooth base that doesn't sound distorted when turned up.Cons -The top two or three volume levels severly distort the sound and are unlistenable, this may be my computer and not the speakers. They are still plenty loud a few notches down though. The plug from the 2nd speaker to the first doesn't always seat right so no sound comes out of the 2nd speaker until you adjust it. It would be nice if it would reliably make a solid connection. My biggest gripe would be the control buttons on top. They require a decent amount of pressure to actuate and there is no feedback so the only way you know they are working is watching the volume on your screen. Overall a great product for traveling with my laptop.My setup: Xotic PC Force 3551 laptop (MSI-1651 platform) - on board sound card.

Speakers are unbelievable. I had read reviews that the sound actually got MORE clear as the volume went up. I didn't think that was possible but it absolutely is. You can hear everything on these speakers. Music is unbelievable, movies are OUTSTANDING and the gaming puts you right in the thick of the action. I would pay DOUBLE the price for these speakers, absolutely EXCELLENT purchase

These speakers are awesome. With video games and movies, the sound is all around you and makes the experience much better. With music, the speakers and the bass get LOUD. It goes to full volume, then Boost 1 through Boost 11 after it already hits full volume. I just found that out 2 weeks ago when I was messing around with it after owning the system for 2 years. You will never have to go past the normal full mark unless you are trying to tick off the neighbors. When I purchased the system two years ago it was $225 on amazon.

These are really great speakers for the price. I own a set of Klipsch 2.1 that I wanted to replace (subwoofer won't fit new desk set up, and the Klipsch draw a constant 20 watts even when not in use), and these were not a big compromise. Obviously, these speakers are not going to win any awards from audiophiles, but they are much better than your average sub $50 or even sub $100 computer speakers. Big thanks to Logitech for putting the transformer inside one of the speakers instead of on the plug.One negative: Headphone jack on speaker is affected by the tone modifier, but that's not unusual.Definitely a win, overall.

I just received these yesterday and I plugged them in to my PC last night. What A Difference! I tossed my old speakers and I'm enjoying these Logitech X-140 speakers as I'm writing this review. They sound crisp and clean and look great too! Very sturdy, not a cheap plastic speaker at all. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to replace the 'cheap' speakers that come with most PC's now. I guarantee you won't be disappointed with this purchase. They ROCK!

I didn't have room for a sub woofer so wanted 2.0 speakers. These met my price range and sound pretty good with decent bass and overall good sound. If you want rally great sound go with 2.1 speaker system but these ork very well when space is an issue.

I bought these as a set of road speakers to replace a pair that I bought in Korea and loaned to my daughter, never to see them again. There is nothing especially fancy about these little Johnsons, but they are compact, functional, and very reasonably priced. I used to be a serious audiophile and still appreciate fidelity; a quality of which these speakers are not entirely deficient. They whip out some decent and acceptable dynamics and do not make objectionable distortions or anything like that. These should not be your only speakers and if they are, you have higher priority issues than your choice of speakers, but they are quite ok for jacking into a portable computer in a hotel, or for duties of that sort.

I currently have a $30 pair of Altec Lansing computer speakers that are about the same style and size. I bought these for a second office b/c they looked cool and maybe they'd be my main speakers. But after listening to them - no way. They sound small, tinny and scratchy compared with the $30 Altec Lansings. They are cheap and that's what they sound like, please don't expect more.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 laptop, whose sound output left much to be desired. I bought the Logitech 970155-0403 V20 Notebook Speakers to watch TV shows, movies, music videos and instructional videos online.Overall assessment is that these speakers serve my purpose VERY WELL. The speakers enhance the laptop's sound dramatically. I like the fact that the speakers connect to the laptop through a USB port. The speakers have a good form factor, which makes them easily portable.The only downside (and it is only a very minor one) is that if the laptop is put in Standby mode and then turned on again, the volume controls on the laptop fail to control the speakers' volume (this issue is easily solved by using the speakers' volume controls, that are conveniently positioned, on top of one of the speakers). Once the laptop is rebooted, the problem goes away. There may be a way to fix this, but I have not spent time on it.All in all, I am very pleased with the sound quality, portability and convenience of the speakers.

The sound quality is extremely clean and I have only used the stereo inputs. The bass hits really low too. It doesn't push as much air volume as you would think a 10" sub would, but you definitely can hear and feel the bass around the house. It's sounds so good I might even buy a second system for my TV. For this price I do not think there is a better deal anywhere. This is the best electronics purchase I have made for a PC ever!
