Others had given this speaker set a good review so I expected a great experience. I'm not sure if the problem is the speakers or my settings, but I can't get them to have a surround sound. The side/back speakers are too soft and I can't hear them, but when I turn them up I lose the center speakers sound. And I can either have the center or the front speakers dominate but not share the sound equally. The bass sounds good during music and tv, but is way too loud for windows computer sounds and I can't find a compromise between the two. I do like the control pad next to my keyboard so I can control the volume easily.

Bought these for my office. When I want to be the only one to hear them I can turn them down low and still hear a nice range while others in the office hear nothing. They also sound great when I crank them up.

We purchased this set as a low-end option to replace the Dell set that my husband reclaimed to go with his new flat screen monitor. As is everyone, we are watching the pennies right now, and looked at this set as a compromise between price and quality. It was to accompany the CRT monitor that I inherited from him along with his old Dell computer. After we received it and have been using it for about two months, I am VERY happy to say that there is absolutely NO COMPROMISE when it comes to performance, quality of the sound and appearance. It matches my other Dell components perfectly and I am THRILLED with my system now. My husband is pleased that I do not hog HIS computer any more. Price was great, delivery was speedy and we are very pleased.

I just bought this speaker for my laptop. The sound quality is pretty good for a small room, considering the price after rebate.The handling, however, is not very good, especially these small buttons.

Well first things first... I've never own surround sound before. I recently bought a new flatpanel HDTV in december and i decided to get a surround sound to go with it. I wanted something cheap.. nothing heavy duty. Logitech was getting some good reviews so i decided to get this set. I realise that most people seem to use these speakers with their computers, but i hooked mine up to my TV. I had to do a little adjusting to get the speakers to work with the normal TV and XBOX 360 but it was a piece of cake. The sound is pretty good despite not being THX and it really adds to my movies and games hearing voices and sounds behind me! When i bought the set they were going for 70 bucks, but as i write this review Amazon is selling them for 50 bucks... I would not hesitate to get this set if you're searching for something cheap

If your Logitech product costs more than $200 and has to be returned because it has a problem be aware that you have to send your product to Logitech BEFORE they will send you an exchange. The stated time for the exchange is 7 -- 10 days, which likely means 2 weeks or more of real time. This policy is the total reverse of companies (such as Dell) who will immediately send the replacement part to you and then allow you to return the bad one.In my case my Z5500 control pod was bad - it was able to accept input ONLY from the optical input port. When I tried to connect my game system via a digital coax cable the speakers emitted a loud buzz. So I went through the problem reporting procedure and got agreement to get a replacement control pod.But since the whole system cost more than $200 Logitech insisted I send them my bad control pod first before they would send a replacement. This renders my entire sound system non-operational for 2weeks or more. They would not send me a replacement first (even with a valid credit card #) as all other vendors I've dealt with have done.

A cinch to set up, easy to travel with. Adequate sound, certainly better than laptop built in speakers, but range isnt quite broad enough. Could use a little more volume. STill, very worth the money.

I've purchased Logitech's X140 speakers and they didn't work within a week of purchase. They have to be turned up all of the way before a low tinny noise comes out, but there's almost no volume working. I then went to Logitech's website, which doesn't list the speakers at all in their technical support. I finally located the manual on the speakers, but found the file was corrupted when I tried to download. I went to their 'Contact Us' page, filled out a long form about the issue the speakers where having. Once complete they then force you to sign up for a new account before you can submit the issue to their customer service. You shouldn't have to give up your personal information in return for customer service. Absolutely awful.

I have always been an Audiophile. Back in the day , the speakers of choice used to be Fishers w/ 15" woofers, running as much equalized wattage as I could get my hands on. While I still think you can't beat a high end system w/ a nice set of 15" er's , this system will amaze anyone who loves high end audio w/ hard hitting lows & very crisp highs. Most people simply can't get over the fact that this kind of sound could possibly be generated by my computer & eminatting from this harmless but great looking speaker system. In short -- WOW -- WOW -- WOW, just WOW that sums it up.

After years of listening to two speakers from radioshack, playing sound everyday from games, music, and movies, I can honestly say this is one of the best investments I have ever made. This sound is astonishing. I currently run these speakers on my iMac, which, as it turns out, makes the perfect companion with the Z-5500. As an average consumer when it comes to audio, I really enjoy these speakers, both for the price and the sound.

This speaks worked on one of my laptop. It won't worked on the other one. When it worked, it sounds as it should be.I am trying to find out why this speakers failed on the other laptop.

I purchased these speakers to replace an (old, crummy) set of speakers I use at work. The old speakers suffered terribly from cell phone interference; each time a phone within about 15 feet (walls notwithstanding) rang or checked in with a cell tower, I'd get a few seconds of buzzing. Happily, these Logitech speakers have well-shielded cables and don't buzz at all unless the cell phone is placed within a foot or so.The sound quality is quite good for speakers this size. They even sound good a low volume levels. The fact that there is no wall-wort (transformer) on the end of the cord is also a nice feature.I'd rate these as an excellent value for the price.

After much research and asking around, I finally decided to pick up this beast of a system instead of one of the other leading systems.Pros: Sounds excellent for the price ~$200, doesn't "hum" like other systems I have heard, reasonably high quality construction, control pod with controller is excellent (simple and easy to use but good looking), straight forward to install unless your going to mount the speakers on the wall.Cons: Doesn't come with screws or mounting brackets (are holes in speaker base), can't remove base of speakers to make mounting easier, hard to get a screw driver in at the proper angle.Overall: Awesome system with a few minor inconveniences.

I have three of these systems that I've had rangeing from 2 years to 2 months. Best system for price/benefit. Straightforward audio,toslink, and coaxial inputs, understandable reasonable size display, simple remote, auto detection of input type all work well. Would be nice to have a longer cable (or extendable) between display and subwoofer/amp. Would be nice if speakers had more mounting options (like to the ceiling). Main advantage is reasonable price for good sound and usable with computer or HDTV.

This set of speakers is fantastic for what it is: USB powered with no Subwoofer.Now, I don't consider myself an Audiophile but I AM an music addict. That said, I own about 10 different pairs of headphones (ranging from big ones to small ones to in ear etc) that have cost me anywhere from $5 to $300. In terms of speakers, I've owned a couple as well, from the popular 2.1 Klispchs to Dell ones.I just had to write this review because having been using them more extensively these days, they are REALLY impressing me.The V20s compared to:Altec Lansing XT1s: Beats the snot out of the XT1s. Haven't tried out the XT2s, but oh my goodness. The XT1s distort with any sort of Equilizer usage, have almost no Bass response at all. Highs were good and that was about it. The V20s in comparison, lack a bit in the mids and highs, are adequate in Bass, and are VERY clear. With some equilizer tweaking on the laptop, I can get these to sound very very good, without the massive oomph of Bass I can get with plugged in 2.1s however.Dell 2.1 Speakers: The V20s sound worse, but not too far off. The Bass is much weaker than the Dells, and it has trouble producing the same mids and highs, clarity is also inferior. If I could put my Dell speakers into the same form factor as these V20s, I would, but alas, it's not going to happen.That said, don't expect these to sound as good as good 2.1s. Now I HAVE heard much worse 2.0s, (no sub) that required external power. But for the most part, plugged in 2.1 units with a sub will surpass this set easily. However, for what these ARE, and in factoring in the competition, they are great. With some equilizer work, they sound astounding when you look a little closer.. no sub and powered only by USB!!Buy these from Amazon! I bought them for much more and I am satisfied, but at Amazon's price, it's a no brainer. You can take these on road trips, parties, whatever, and pump out some seriously good sounding music from your collection with the help of your laptop.

I'm using my X-540 to provide surround sound in my gazebo - and the sound just comes from an ersatz Ipod. Since both the Ipod and the X-540 were purchased on sale, the cost/benefit ratio is really fine - but I had to pay full price for all the extension cables that I had to buy.On the whole, I'd do it again in a heart beat ;-)

These speakers were a very good deal. The sound quality is very good, and the speakers look nice. The sub is not as powerful as it looks in size but it is powerful enough unless you are trying to rattle your neighbors' house. I had a sub before this around the same size, which was more powerful, but I never needed that much bass so it really is not a negative for me. I have them set up surrounding my bedroom, and the surround sound is great. Movie watching has been significantly improved. Very good speakers. I recommend.

These are good quality affordable speakers. They sound great with and produce good bottom end which is not available from most computer speakers without a subwoofer. I am very happy with them.

These speakers are the bomb!!!!I owned and still have there lower line ones X-530 i belive also 5.1Both had very good quality!The x-530's i could listen to at full blast (very loud might I add) And these i cant even get past half way with everything turned up.From the optical to digital to coax inputs these speakers have it all!I have to say id rather stay home and watch a movie with these than go to the theater and watch the movie there. They are that awesome!

I got these speakers my Freshman year of college for my door room, and I love them! I have my MacBook Pro, Xbox 360, and Wii connected to it and they all sound great. It has more than enough power for my room, but the speakers don't sound the greatest in large rooms. The price is great for the quality of the speakers. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get a solid surround sound system without spending a ton of money.The sub is not shielded, so you have to keep it at least 2-3ft away from your computer. The sub is also larger than I expected, but I have no problem getting everything in to my car. I can't see myself needing a better system until I'm out of college, and I actually have a good amount of money to spend on a system. They have lasted me 2 yrs now and I see them lasting a lot longer.

These speakers have very big sound and really can fill a room. I like having the ability to plug in headphones to the external unit when I want to use a microphone. The speaker stands rotate 180 degrees and have two mounting holes. Unfortunately these mounting holes are at the ends of a horseshoe shaped stand which means they can be wall mounted only to face one direction, you can't simply turn it over to face it the other way.

A unique product that does what is was designed for very very well. Most laptops have horrible sound, no bass, easily distorted, and insufficient volume.There are tons of portable speaker choices that require batteries or an AC power supply, but as someone who makes frequent sales and training presentations always worry if my batteries will die or if I will forget the adapter or can find an outlet close by. When setting up for a presentation I want everything to work with as little hassle as possible. Why worry about your speakers?These work with no external power, and the bare minimum of wires for quick set up. The included case is very tough. The speakers are not tiny, but are very light weight.The sound, Outstanding for voices, dialog, sound effects, pretty good for music too. Plenty of undistorted volume for a good size classroom or conference room. The controls for volume/mute/pause are right on the speakers so their is no hunting for keyboard shortcuts during your presentation. These are the perfect companion for folks who use portable projectors.Highly recommended for those who have the need.

I've never been able to turn this system all the way up. In my small room it would just be too loud. This system sounds great. The only problem is I had to upgrade my sound card because with the quality of these speakers you could hear the cheapness of the Dell OEM sound card that was in the system.I would totally recommend this to a friend and I was able to get it at half-price of what I had seen it other places (with free shipping!). Props to TigerDirect and Amazon.

I have had these speakers for well over a year now and I have loved them since day one. The quality of the product you're getting for the price is a steal.The subwoofer is pretty powerful and the sound is great. It comes with a monster cable that is AV to audio, with a small black piece that attaches to the audio part that allows you to use all five speakers at once (the speakers are broken up through three different cords with 3.5mm jacks on the end, so the little box has three jacks on it).If you get a red/white cable with a headphone jack on the end ($20 at the apple store) you can plug the red white cable into the little box and play your ipod (or other mp3 player, or computer) on all three speakers at once, too. It won't be true surround sound because you're getting the same input to each speaker, but it's still awesome. I love being able to fill my room with music.I have no complaints with these speakers. I am 100% satisfied with them!

Nice surround sound system. Remote control comes in handy and use of a coaxial, 3.5mm mini or optical connection makes it easier to connect multiple devices to the system. Wire lengths are pretty good, with three 15 ft and two 25 ft wire cables, it provides ample length for what I want. Subwoofer is nice, really really nice. Its a 12 inch sub with a giant magnet on it. Very nice stable system, no problems with it yet. The display part with the volume knob does heat up a bit, but no problems thus far. Highly recommended!!

these set of speakers totally rock. i am completely satisfied with my purchase. turning it up to max volume will seriously have others covering their ears. Installation is simple, no upgrades to my sound card at all (optional of course). The wires for the speakers are long enough, i myself had to add like 5 more feet to the back speakers. the main controller is simple to use, as well as the remote. Exceptional sound, no static, just be sure to keep to head the warnings.

The speakers have a really nice full sound. I'm not sure you can go wrong for the price. They also look really sharp. My only complaint is that there is not a button to adjust the bass. What you have is what you have; regardless of wanting more or less bass. For myself I don't really care; I think the sound is stellar as it is but it really bugs my husband.

This product was easy to setup and a steal for the price it was offered at. The only con I would be able to point out is the fact that although this speaker system is still Logitech's flagship, it has been some time since this model was introduced. Clearly, with the launching of motherboards that support 8.1 HD channel audio, this speaker system's 5.1 channel audio is dated. Having said that, unless you compare this product with another system with higher channel audio you won't be able to tell the difference. By the way, that is a 10" sub included in a 1010 watt system... need I say more.

I'm an extremely avid progressive/metal music guru, so I need speakers that can handle anything I throw at them. I had the Klipsch Promedia 4.1's for about a year until they stopped working; I then purchased some Promedia 5.1's and they worked for 2 years until the subwoofer died. At this point I was frustrated with the Klipsch product line, and so I bought these speakers in July of 2007. They are simply amazing: awesome sound quality for all music and movies. The thing that impressed me the most was the control panel for these speakers: coaxial/optical digital inputs, headphone jack, an extra 1/4" input jack (for an iPod), and last but not least it has three direct stereo inputs, so if you have a 5.1 sound card you're good to go. As such, I'm able to use these speakers for my computer audio, my PS2, and my TV (all in my dorm!) All in all, a great product for the price: you won't be disappointed!

These sound perfect in my living room 13' x 18'. I wanted to keep my room as clean as possible and these do the trick. The main reason I am writing this is to clarify that as of 10-13-07 the set that I received had regular spring clip speaker connections not RCA plugs. Which in my opinion is a very good thing (I was told by logitech support that it was the rca plugs). The set came with 3-15' cables and 2-25' cables. Which in most cases is probably enough but I needed more to run through the attic so installing my own was easy with these terminals.I am running my X-BOX 360 and DVR cable box through an optical splitter into the optical input on the control pod and works just wonderfully. My DVD/VCR combo is ran through the Digital COAX input. I also just figured out that my X-Box is a media extender so I can play all of my music and videos from my computer in my living room.The speaker stands work fine for wall mounting but I installed my satelites hanging from the ceiling and the stands flex a little. This is not due to poor quality just that it isn't what they are made for.Overall this is exactly what I expected, Good quality, great sound, and superior selection of inputs. Could't be happier.

I can not really add much to my review which has not already been said. These are great sounding speakers for the price.If you want speakers with accurate music reproduction, thumping bass and higher volumes, best to spend more money and upgrade to Logitech's Z-4 model. But for casual listening and computer gaming, the X-140 speakers are more than adequate.My biggest positive is the durability & construction; very hard plastic backs with heavy duty metal front grills (which are virtually impenetrable to pencils, pens, and other kid wielded objects). So far, after 4 months of use, I have deemed them "kid proof". Those of you who have small children know what I mean. I highly recommend the X-140's for those on a budget or those who just can't see the logic in dropping big dollars when kids are around. ****March 2013 update. Still in great condition and rockin' strong!****

I would find it hard to believe that you could find a better 5.1 surround sound system in this price range. I'm using the analog inputs with onboard sound for music and occasional dvd watching and it sounds great. I can only imagine how good it would sound in digital mode. The satallite speakers are loud and crystal clear. The sub gives you more clean thumping bass than you could ever need. Plenty of adjustability from the control panel or the remote. And quite nice looking to boot !!! I'm very happy with my purchase !!!

The speakers look great in the web-site, but the sound quality is the opposite. When I turned the volume high, the speakers were shaking and producing very bad quality sound. So appereance might be deceptive...

These speakers are great! The sound quality is pretty good. The only thing that i wasn't too pleased with was the "installation" part. It came with a connector thingy for the extra speakers but they don't really work that well. Other than that, this is a very good purchase.

I hooked these speakers up to a Creative X-Fi audio card using an optical digital cable. The speakers produce absolutely zero hiss, giving the cleanest, clearest sound I have found in PC speakers. I have turned up the volume to the loudest level that is still comfortable to listen to without any distortion whatsoever. The subwoofer is huge, and puts out tight, punchy bass that you feel as much as hear. The one drawback to using the optical link is that the amplifier seems to power off when the system detects no audio signal, and when it does detect a signal it takes a second or two to for the amplifier to react. This is typically only a problem with Windows system sounds, but has not been a problem when playing music, video games, or DVDs. It does not power off using analog audio connections. If you are looking for surround sound PC speakers, you can't go wrong with the Logitech Z-5500.

I purchased these speakers sight unseen and based only on good reviews. When they arrived they were more space consuming than I planned on. The control unit is also large. Lucky for me I have the room to place them on my desk.These speakers are excellent for the PC. I can also hook up MP3 players, laptops, etc. or add some headphones. They have lots of wire to move them around. Easy to work with great features. Speakers can be mounted on the wall if needed.I highly recommend these speakers. I listened to many various brands and models at Best Buy and other stores and these speakers are just as good or better then the others, Bose included! In this price range of course.

These speakers are amazing, great sound, amazing for music, movies, and videos games. Optical input on the back of the control unit insures crisp sound and 5.1 Dolby. I own a 40" Samsung LCD, PS3, and a Apple MacBook Pro all of which have their sound running through these speakers. Great speakers, Amazon beats retail price.
