UPDATE DECEMBER 2013: 4 starsI bought a Nikon D3200 with 18-55mm in early 2013. I hardly ever use it. I usually don't bother carrying both, and I usually get the X-S1. The zoom of the X-S1 has more reach and my wife likes that. The colors of the X-S1 are better in my eyes. I could put more efforts in the Nikon and might be able to get colors I would like more. But the colors from the Fujifilm were always great in my eyes, with no need to tweak anything.I had the sensor in the X-S1 replaced (for the so-called orb-problem). The replacement also included the lens. Overall, I preferred the camera with the old sensor. In my eyes, the auto-exposure was better in my first sample and the zoom was more "tight".Still an intersting camera, currently at a bargain price.----------------------------------------------------------INITIAL REVIEW: May 21, 2012: 3 stars:Disclaimer: English is not my native language. If anything "sounds" odd, it may be a translation mistake. Sorry for that. More about me. I don't postprocess at all. I mainly wanted a camera with a good viewfinder (disappointment), a sharp 5x zoom (or higher) with no front/back focusing issues (disappointment with sharpness), great colors and exposure from Fuji (satisfied). The bottom line for the X-S1 is probably that I may chose to keep it and not return it. Yet, it is a camera that disappointed me in a lot of areas, and which is generally bellow what I expected. It is certainly capable of taking good pictures (though not very detailed ones). It is certainly fun (if you learn to live with a number of glitches). It could simply have been so much better with a better viewfinder (more details and less freeze please), a sharper lens (less range and more sharpness please) and a better user interface.Pros:* Feels just right (weight, build, size)* Silky zooming* Overall colors and dynamic range* Very versatile lens (24mm, macro, 135+ mm)* Pivoting robust external LCD (Rolleiflex like)* Face detection, AF, AE* Instant review in viewfinder (sharpness and contrast adequate, instantly available)* 1/1000s flash synchronization speed* Ability to work in complete silence (shutter and silent lens/AF)* Video and live view on external screen with decent AF* Almost cheap* Viewfinder makes framing somehow pleasurable* Somehow protected from dust on sensor (and certainly on non-existing translucent mirror)* Fast burst (though see bellow), multiexposure noise reduction, panorama* Most of the cameras/lenses I consider as alternatives will be replaced/introduced later this year, and are significantly more expensive, while the X-S1 is available now.Cons* Poor lens sharpness* Poor viewfinder (sharpness in shooting mode, freezes)* Average viewfinder (contrast in shooting mode)* No live feed in display when shooting bursts* Very deceiving interface* No real continuous AF* Slow operation (fast AF + freeze = slow operations)* Slow "sharpening" in PLAYBACK* White orbs, though they are rare* Zoom sag, though I don't know if it has an impact* Blue haze/flare facing strong light, though it may be only slightly worse than many other lensesOpinion about the X-S1 - Why I feel it is a lovely but very deceiving camera.Presentation following the topics in the official catalog available from fujifilm.com, at [...] .So, let's go through the marketing brochure (see reference to page number before my comments) with some positive and some negative comments.p. 1/9. The camera feels great in my hands. I like the "form factor", the shape of the grip, the weight.p. 2/9. Lens. I like 24mm wide (35mm eq.). I like having a tele of at least 150-200mm (35mm eq.). I certainly don't expect 624mm but why not.p. 3/9. "Exceptional resolution" (p.3) ? Well, nothing to write home about in my experience. My F31fd was certainly way sharper. My Panasonic TZ7 is most probably sharper as well.p. 4/9. "624mm 26x zoom. Telephoto shots without fear of blur". Well, the image stabilization is probably ok, but not magic. Check the picture on that page of the marketing brochure, it has a 1/800 sec shutter speed indeed. Unlike the TZ7, in some cases, it takes a couple of seconds after you stop framing/panning before the image stops moving due to the IS.p. 5/9. "Super macro." Not tested much but it gave me a very good impression.Check the pivoting external LCD on p.5. It pivots easily. It is sturdy. The camera is easy to control with the LCD oriented upwards, or downwards raised at arms length.p. 6/9. "Feel of precision zoom control". The zoom ring is indeed smooth and precise. As good as most zooms, even on SLRs.p. 7/9"Super EBC". "Reduces ghosting and flare". Well, when facing the sun/sky in high-contrast situations, it is not uncommon with my X-S1 to end up with some sort of blue haze. I feel that other cameras/lenses deal better with such difficult circumstances."EVF" "1.440.000-dot resolution". The image is large but, you only get the full resolution in PLAYBACK mode, if ever. In shooting mode, you don't get the full resolutio

I really, really wanted to love this camera! I have only ever owned Fujis and I love them all up to this point. I bought this camera on accident. I thought I was buying the 9900 because I wanted the Wi-Fi function. The seller was great and said that I could return it and get most of my money back. There is a restocking fee. I went ahead and ordered the s9900w as planned, from amazon this time and got a broken one. They are sending me a replacement with the understanding that I can return it for a refund if needed. It's needed. I am not an expert but consider myself pretty knowledgeable about this type camera. The selling point for me, besides the gimmicky Wi-Fi feature is the zoom. I have the HS50 and we have shot a LOT of photos! I love it!! Fantastic camera. This camera (and the fujiguys say it is the same camera, only one does the Wi-Fi) is a big disappointment. It's just like a Canon I bought and sold because I could NOT get it to focus at full zoom. Or even three quarters of the way there. This camera is so great otherwise but.... I decided to try this one out after the 9900 came to me malfunctioning. Sadly...I won't be keeping any of them. They do NOT do what I hoped. There is no sense having it if it won't zoom and make fantastic photos as they say it will. I will probably just end up buying another HS50 at this rate. So.....disappointed. Three stars just coz I love Fuji!

UPDATE!! AUG 23, 2015 - Well, I'm chagrined to admit that it was user error regarding battery fitment. Turns out, I was lining up the battery according to the three contacts on it with the three contacts on the charger. But, this charger can accommodate other size batteries, so the middle contact on the charger is also negative. I flipped over the battery and it fits perfectly. So, my bad!!!! It is easy to confuse, though..look at the photos. Line up according to +/-, not by how many contacts there are....
The packaging and logo and even the name sound great. BUT! The batteries DO NOT FIT into the charger. That's what is important.....I was able to get one of the two batteries to sit in the charger, but the other one doesn't want to stay in at all and pops out once the charger is plugged in. And the original Fuji battery won't stay in as well.

It was fine until the two halves came apart, the part you insert the battery into and the base unit. I snapped them back together but the unit did not work. I took the unit apart only to discover the worst PCB quality and sloppiest soldering ever. A pad had lifted clean off the PCB. I fixed the problem with my trusty soldering iron as well as a few other troubling solder joints. I am seriously concerned that these poor-quality chargers are a fire hazard. I have not had a chance to thoroughly test the batteries yet. I hope they are made with substantially better quality than the charger.

I needed a charger and extra batteries for my Fujifilm xp80 because the camera didn't come with them. They were delivered quickly in good packaging and as advertised. I was able to charge the batteries without any problems. It also charged the oem battery. I can't comment on the quality of the batteries yet, but in my limited usage to date everything is working great. I'd order from Kastar again.

I wasn't even looking for a camera to replace my nearly 5 year old Panasonic FZ-18 which I still like. Somehow I stumbled across the Fujifilm X-S1 (I think it was an email from Amazon). When I learned it had a large (for a point and shoot) 2/3" sensor, 26x zoom going from an extra wide 24mm equiv. efl out to 624mm, and was selling for $399, it sure got my attention. I read all the reviews I could find, here on Amazon, B&H Photo, and numerous professional reviews (mostly from Great Britain). Most of the reviews were highly favorable. The only criticisms I noted were: the size and weight, sometimes faulty autofocus, and lack of image sharpness when viewed at 100%.I agree with most of those criticisms. It's as big as a lower end DSLR, and feels even heavier than it's listed 33 ounces. Most of the weight seems to be in the lens, so I had to revert to holding it like an SLR, cradling it in my left hand while steadying it with my right hand. Having said that, I did consider getting a DSLR (Canon T3i) with a wide range zoom lens (18-250mm). But that option, besides the much higher price tag, is even heavier, plus it provides less zoom range (and the lens is slower). As for the autofocus, it occasionally misses, but no more often than my Panasonic. The vast majority of time, it gets it right, and it's instantaneous. The camera overall is very responsive, much more so than my Panasonic. It is a pleasure to use.In terms of image quality, the colors are great, the images are sharp at normal viewing sizes. At 100%, which is poster size, yes, it does seem to be less sharp than my other cameras. But if you compared the images of all my cameras at the same size, I bet they would be similarly sharp. So I'm not really complaining here. I should add that in terms of image noise, this Fuji blows away the Panasonic. On that camera, I could see chroma noise at ISO 100 and I was reluctant to go above ISO 200. On the Fuji, I don't hesitate to go up to ISO 400, and even at ISO 800, the image is very good (just looks grainy at full size).Using the camera is a pleasure. The EVF is the best I've used (my 3rd camera with one). As already mentioned, it's very responsive. I really like having dedicated buttons for most functions, minimizing the need to use the menu. I prefer a manual zoom to a motorized one, giving me more precise control over framing. Incidentally, Fuji may have tweaked the zoom mechanism; mine is not all that smooth and it binds slightly at the long end. On the other hand, it's rock solid with no hint of creep. For $299 ($349 selling price-$50 gift certificate) it's a LOT of camera for the money. I definitely recommend it.

Took this item with me mid-May 2015 to protect my Fujifilm FinePix f30 digital camera on a whitewater rafting trip on section IV of the Chattooga River. I took dozens of pictures and video clips and the DICAPac worked great as it was designed to do. I probably wouldn't have even purchased it had it not been for other buyers/users who gave this product a good recommendation. I also followed suggestions from others about custom cutting and fitting some Styrofoam and putting inside the case to better align the camera. I used GOOP glue to glue my Styrofoam pieces together. Don't use superglue as it will dissolve the Styrofoam. I used the more flexible foam material similar in nature to what those pool noodles are made of. I also included a silica gel pac in the case to deal with any moisture that might have resulted from temperature differences. I'm not really expecting this product to have a very long life, but it functions well and is reasonably priced.

Price was great and quality seems good. These batteries were well packaged and even included both a mini-instruction leaflet and a card with contact info in case there were any problems. Many of these off-brand batteries arrive with nothing, just the batteries, so the quality of the packaging was a nice surprise.
The batteries themselves seem to be well made and charged quickly and seem to be working fine. As I get more experience I will come back and update if I find any issues. So far, they seem excellent. One of the least inexpensive sets as well. I have tried several others and these seem by far the best.

Very disappointed with the batteries.
They are rated 1100mAh and 4.1Wh, vs the 740mAh and 2.8Wh for the NP-45S battery that came with my Fuji XP70 camera. That's a capacity that is 148% higher.
Given that higher capacity, I expected they would last longer than the original battery when I was using them. They did not.
With my original battery I was able to record a 29-minute HD movie, followed by another movie about 10 minutes in length (the file format limits the size/length of the movie). With the Wasabi batteries I was not able to record 20 minutes in HD movie mode before the camera shut down because it was low on power. I had hoped it might just be a bad battery, or they were in need of conditioning. Nope. Both batteries behaved just as poorly, even after depleting and recharging them a couple of times.
These are going back.

2015 and still kicking but! Outstanding camera! Color, dynamic range, and film simulation modes all add up to a powerful combination. Bright optical view finder. Can use either AFD or AFS lenses. VR still functions. AIS lenses will meter. Commander flash mode and superb button placement are well thought out. This body will last for many years and is still relevant amongst modern cameras. Using the battery grip helps steady my large 80 200 f/2.8 lens. My favorite part about this system is straight from the camera JPEGS! As an event photographer, I shoot thousands of pix in a single day. I don't have time to post process images other than resizing and copyright overlays. I can shoot at both medium and small sizes. Both look great on my 52 inch HD tv. My 640X480 shots impress everyone that receives them. FB and mobile devices only require a half megapixel. Modern 24 megapixel cameras can really tax your computer. As you can tell by the premium prices this camera still commands, it can still hold it's own against the current crop of "me too"cameras. I might pick up a Fujifilm S3 just for fun and possible 2nd body.

I've made the mistake of buying a couple of these battery systems over the last couple of years. Quality control seems to be the biggest problem. While some of the batteries are fine, others just don't hold a charge at all - charge them for several hours and they die within 5 minutes of use (I got 12 exposures from my Fuji X20 on one "fully charged" battery at one point). I've learned my lesson - stick with the manufacturer's own replacement batteries because, even though they may cost 3 or 4 times more, they are far more likely to actually work!

I bought this because I inadvertently left the charger that came with my camera behind on vacation. I love that the plug folds in making the charger more compact and packable. For those wondering, there is a U.S. style plug on the side of the charger that is unseen in the photo. It can be pluged into the European plug adapter and the car adapter does have a short cord(not shown in the photo) and plugs into a D.C. input on the top of the charger, barely visible in the photo. My original camera battery was successfully recharged by this charger; and the two batteries that accompany the charger work fine in my camera. I do not yet know how long they will power the camera, but another reviewer has already stated that they do as well or better than the original battery. Having two extra batteries will be handy as my camera has gone dead on me in the past before I completed a long day of sight-seeing. The plug adapter will come in handy when I travel to Europe; I'm not sure how much I'll use the car adapter, but it is nice to have. I do like that charger light starts out red and turns green when the battery is fully charged. That way you know that the charger is working and you didn't plug it into an outlet that has been turned off by a wall switch, which can sometimes be the case in a hotel room.

Slightly bulky charger but worked perfectly and good to have the back up for the in-camera charging. All three batteries worked and took around 200 non-flash pics per charge, which was about the same as the original. Adaptor shown is for the 2-prong "stecker" socket used in Germany and the charger will work with that 220-volt current.

Just got this camera yesterday, but have done a quit-a-bit of testing and comparing to other cameras I have and have had and as a preliminary review I love this camera. My first SLR was a Fuji 601 and my son had a 701, this was way back in 1973, and we both loved our cameras. I have a feeling this camera will be just as good of hit. The only slight negative comment is that the video sound is not as sharp as others I have had. I will write an update after more usage. I take lots of pictures of many different types and conditions but I will never use a lot of the fancy capability this camera has. Thanks FUJI!!!!!!!!!!

Just what I needed when I couldnt find my charger. The limiting factor with my camera is the battery. Always runs out at the worst time. Having 2 extra batteries along with a 12V charge option was met with great little package. Make sure you line up the +/- with the marks on the battery. Charges pretty fast havent sat and timed it but usually within an hour or less per battery.

I purchased the kit for my Fuji XP70 digital camera. I'll soon be packrafting in Alaska and needed something to attach to my Goal Zero Nomad 7 solar panels. The panels came with a car charging port. Just set it up and so far so good! It's sitting in full sun as you can see in the photo. My battery was dead so we'll see how long it takes to charge. I'll report back any other details I find with the products. I have not tried the batteries just yet but in the event I can't get enough sun in the wilderness I'll at least have some back up batteries charged and ready to go. The kit was super cheap and so I took a chance to try it out. The size of the charger is small enough and light enough for me to carry in my back. And in the event I come across an electrical outlet I'll be good to go with the built in plug. Perfect!

After buying the camera and knowing I'd have no camera access while charging, I knew I had to get a separate charger plus extra batteries. This set fits the bill! Great product combo at a great price! I already charged all the batteries and I'm ready for my next European trip!
