I bought this camera just before going abroad on a trip and was very please with what I got. It's very simple and easy to use. I was a little disappointed that it doesn't seem to have a video recording feature, but it is a good point and shoot for a good price!

The Fujifilm Finepix S100fs is the camera I have been waiting for. I like the manual zoom, the lens is sharp, the wide angle allows for wide shots and the settings are more than adequate for all types of conditions.

It even works with my gorilla pod!

I picked this up on a salesperson's recommendation and found a great price on Amazon. It is easy to use and takes great pics for a snap and shoot. To download the pictures I just connect the camera to my computer and use the standard Microsoft software that pops up. The included software is not really needed.

Granted its not the most expensive feature packed camera, picture quality not always that great. about 1 in 4 pictures is waste due to image problems, low light, blur etc.
You MUST buy extra memory. the internal memory will hold 2-3 pictures at the 8 MP setting.
Oh, did I mention the LCD screen is cracked? with minimal use, non abusive carried in my pocket the screen is unusable with no other view finder, its unusable. looking into warranty repair, but I'm guessing it will cost more than the camera.
if they repair under warranty, I will give it 3 stars.

I specifically looked for a Fuji camera when I wanted to upgrade. My experience with their customer service (after my daughter broke her camera) was one of the best experiences I've ever had - and sold me on Fuji as a company. That said, I still wondered how the product itself would perform. After putting it through its paces, I am very pleased with both the feel of the camera, the quality of the pictures, the great range of the zoom, the ease of use and the comments of others who can't believe that it didn't cost much more!

This Fuji is an awesome camera for the money. If you think you need 7 or 10 megapixels, or that those bigger numbers are automatically better, don't believe it. This thing will produce razor sharp 8x10 prints, no problem. (And how often do most of us make prints bigger than that?) For an all-around family camera, it's top-notch, and the price really makes it a no-brainer.

High points:

- The screen. It's HUGE. Bigger and better than many cameras costing a lot more.

- Image quality. Outdoor or well-lit shots are positively gorgeous, consistently. Poorly lit shots are good (with kind of exaggerated or blockiness in the reds), but this is pretty much universal for consumer digital cameras, from my experience. Still very good quality, though, and the flash works well.

- Interface - it's easy to use. I'd rate it superior to the Canon and Sony cameras I've used.

- Video - the quality's surprsingly good. So much so, that I actually do use it for video, which I didn't really expect to do. I think you can get about 15 or 20 minutes at its highest resolution on a 1GB card. You can also get more than 800 of its highest-def photos on a 1GB card. I wanted to get a 2GB card, but couldn't find one at the store. Now I'm glad I didn't bother.

- Battery life is surprisingly good, especially considering the screen.

- Very quick startup time. Turn it on, and bam, it's ready to shoot.

- Nice compact form factor with well-placed and intuitive controls.

Lows:

- the cable that attaches the camera to USB is a non-standard design on the camera end. Not a huge deal, but just be sure not to lose it.

- it doesn't come with a separate battery charger - it charges inside the camera. Actually, this could be viewed as a plus, since you don't need to pull the battery out to charge it, as I have to with a Canon I have. Since it gets such long battery life, I don't foresee ever exhausting it if it's charged in advance. Mileage may vary here, of course, depending on your needs.

- and I can't think of anything else negative about it, really.

Again, for the price, features, and quality, this camera's a steal for $140.

After months of research, I anxiously anticipated the release of this camera and was finally able to purchase it 3 months ago. I still have a lot to learn about its features, but so far, I am blown away by its clarity and quality. I knew I was limited by budget and not quite ready to make the leap to a DSLR, and the Fuji has all the features I was hoping to find in one camera. I can not go anywhere without it. The 18x optical zoom allows some great nature pics, and the macro and super macro can capture the details of all of my favorite flowers. I was expecting to have issues with being pretty shaky, but I seldom use a tripod and have not had any trouble, even at full zoom. The only cons I have noticed so far are that it's a little slow at startup and between shots, and the tripod port is plastic. I'd like to be able to add lenses, but I think for the average amateur photographer, this camera has enough of a range to suit my needs. I'm in love with it.

The photos I've taken with this camera are outstanding - crystal clear. And I'm NOT that great a photographer. I keep the camera in an inside pocket of my purse - it takes up virtually no room. My only complaint would be that I forget how certain things work between uses - it could be more menu-user friendly. overall - i'm thrilled with this camera.

This is my 4th and worst digital camera I have owned. The pictures are not as sharp as other cameras I have owned, and the viewfinder was not completely accurate. The camera stopped working after only 3 months, and Fuji wanted to charge me for the repair. Possibly the worst purchase I have ever made. Just an awful camera from a terrible company (Fuji). Proceed with extreme caution.

The features on this camera suit my needs perfectly. I use it as an all around work/pleasure camera. I take photos of special events so the 18x zoom is awesome. The multiple "Face Detection" comes in handy and I get pretty good shots at long range under indoor natural lighting conditions without flash (although the flash is pretty powerful).

The wide angle feature comes in very handy when taking pictures in tight spaces or of large groups. The camera is easy to use right out of the box and is versatile enough to satisfy "point & shoot" novices or the more advanced photographer. It is light weight (compared to cameras with similar features), easy on batteries (digital AA) and has a crystal clear display - even in strong daylight conditions.

The software is a little cumbersome as it doesn't let you preview and select the photos you want to down load - it just down loads all of them which can be time consuming, a small price to pay for such an awesome camera!

After researching a lot of different digital cameras, I decided on the Fujifilm Finepix. It has all the features, and more, that I was looking for at a reasonable price. I have had the camera a little over a month. I have been taking a lot of pictures and getting used to the new camera. It takes great pictures with a little practice. Everything was great until I was going to take a picture, I turned the knob on top of the camera to select the setting, and the knob fell off! No pressure was used! The knobs are extremely cheap. I called Fuji service department, they were very nice. Informed me I had to send my camera in for warrenty repair. They told me to send it, insured and trackable. I took it to the local Post Office and the Post master saw that I was sending it to the FujiFilm Repair Center and they said I can not insure the camera due to it is broken. So I mailed the camera back thru UPS which cost almost $17. So now I am without my camera for 2-3 wks and didn't get such a good deal after paying shipping. I think I am going to only buy electronics from a retail store.

It fits the camera very snugly, there is no room for batteries and no belt hooks. The neck strap exits at the back of the cover flap. However no allowance has been made for the fact that the strap attachment on the camera is slightly forward on the right so the cover flap is forced up & open when the strap is used. Not very well made really, recycled from another product cover perhaps? - something of a disappointment.

Like this camera very much except for short battery life so far. I am having problems with the lithium rechargible battery and Fuji wants me to send the whole camera in for service. After fully charging the battery wont hold a charge for more than a week if not in use, and will only take about 15 pictures if used immediately.

I bought this to replace my Canon Powershot A70, which I've had replaced or repaired at least 4 times over 5 years (now the lens is broken, again). I got this one on a whim, because I wanted a more expensive one that wasn't in stock. This camera is slow to take photos so many precious moments have been missed. The way to change to another mode (movie, manual) is multi-step so again, moments are missed. And it seems like photos aren't very bright. I just bought another Canon.

I love this camera. Moreover I bought it on Amazon for $123.00 in March 2007 which was an amazing deal. (Not sure if it worth the current price of $300) It works great... A friend of mine friend bought 2 of these at the same time as me and he is very happy with them too... It is pretty small to carry with you and clicks great pictures. Its a great buy.

I oerdered the camera sunday evening (7-27-08) on this site. And I received it today (7-30-08) and only $7.35 for shipping (3-5 days) I got it before that! I absolutely Love this camera. It is bigger than the Fuji s9100 I had. I love every feature about it. It takes awesome pictures.I can't wait to use it more. I already ordered another battery for it and I plan on getting an ATP 16 gb sdhc card for it. I also am wanting to get a sunpak auto 383 super external flash!!! And of course lens filters for this whopping 67 mm lens. And I am very happy with Amazon.com for shipping it out fast and in great condition. Thank you Amazon!!

I bought this camera for wife so she would have small camera to carry around with her on vacation. While the pictures it takes will never be mistaken for pics taken with a DSLR, the results are generally very good. It's also very simple to use. If you're the type of person that is going to "pixel peep", or be upset about "noise" at a high ISO, then this probably isn't the camera for you. Then again, no camera for around $100 is going to make you happy. If you want an inexpensive, small camera to just take pictures, then this camera is an excellent choice. It's a small, no-frills, to the point, point and shoot. It also seems very well built, and the 2.5" screen is acceptable for a camera at this price. The camera itself probably rates about 4 stars, but I give it 5 stars at its price point.

I got this camera last Spring. I was tired of my Samsung with the unintelligible manual and goofy, non-user-friendly settings. Amazon had the Finepix on sale for $139! I was attracted by the thin size and large display, and of course the "try-me" price. When it arrived, the only thing I was disappointed by was the lack of a carrying case.

I've had 4 cameras, and each of them had major drawbacks - mainly in user-friendly settings. I am not an ignoramus, but I have no time to study a poorly-written manual and try to figure out multiple tiny buttons placed all over a camera. I am a casual picture-taker, like most people. So I would end up putting the cameras on one setting and never touching it again. (Can't be bothered to futz.)

I love this camera. I love the large display which is also the viewfinder. A friend warned me that when outdoors in the sun, this would be a drawback. It is, since you can't see the display in the sun's glare. But I haven't found it to be terrible. You can still point the camera in the right direction and click! Haven't taken a bad picture yet doing that.

I haven't had a bad picture in any light or circumstance so far. The Finepix is very forgiving of shaky hands. I don't know technically how they do that, but I'm certainly grateful.

I take food pictures for cooking blogging, and with the easier-to-figure-out settings, I now know how to take better close-up pictures. It only took 10 years and 4 cameras!

I would highly recommend the Finepix for any casual point-and-click photographer. Hands down it is the best quality camera and takes the best-quality pix for the price. (I've never had a high-end camera, so I can't compare for you there.)

I got the S8000fd one week ago and i still learnig all the features. The camera body is very confortable, strong and well designed, but im disappointed with the image quality. Even with firmare update (1.0.0 to 1.0.1) the images are below other cheap cameras:

- The "auto" mode works very bad to me, it produces a bit dark images, and even in very good light conditions the "auto" sets the iso too high. In indoor photos, even with the flash activated, generally the pics are taken in iso 800, and its very common take pictures in iso 200 during day light. Maybe its not a problem if you will see the photos only in your monitor or at small sizes, but if you intend to print in large sizes, the qualit will not be good;

- The sharppen is fairly, but could be better. An overview of the photos at full size in monitor, shows images a little blurry;

- The autofocus is good, but not perfect, its common to see pics out of the perfect focus;

At bottom line, i recommend a "test drive", only this way you will see if this camera will be good to you. Its true that the S8000 has a lot of good features, not a bad cam, but as i said, i was expecting a better image quality, and im not affraid to say that my old Sony P200 produces best, more sharppen and accurated photos than S8000fd. Take a look at Fuji S700 too, its cheaper and i think produces much better photos than S8000fd

I bought this camera for my husband for his birthday, and he absolutely loves it. It is perfect for what he wants to do, which is just to enjoy photography without all the technical stuff. I was a little concerned at first because one of the other reviews said that the instruction manual was in French, but mine wasn't. The camera is extemely easy to use, and my husband has already taken many photos. it was well worth the price, and I believe this camera will last us well through the years. One of the things that most impressed my husband was the many different modes that you can take pictures in allows a lot of photographic ability and diversity. it definitely deserves 5 stars.

Received The Fugi S5800 Camera from Amazon and have been very impressed with it,was very pleased to see the owers manual was in English, and it also had a quick start sheet with just the basic instructions,the few photos I have taken so far have been of a lovely quality, this camera is ideal for those who like me wanted a better zoom than you get with the normal digital but did not want to get into a very expensive range,I have gone through the features and found them easy to follow, a super camera at a great price.

I was hesitant to buy the Fujifilm S8000fd because there were a few reviewers who found problems with the pictures it produced. I considered other cameras in the same genera and discovered there were a few reviewers who were not all that happy with those either. It was clear to me that pictures shot with the Fujifilm S8000fd were at least equal to those made by its competitors and it had a lot more features and capacity.

I think the people who fault the quality of photos taken with the Fujifilm S8000fd are either unable to read the instruction manual or are so "picky" about their pictures as to be neurotic. I have had my Fuji S8000fd for about a month and find the pictures I am taking are just great. I am not a professional photographer, but I have been an advanced-skills hobbyist for decades.

This is my forth Fuji digital camera and it is the best of the bunch. I researched my head off prior to buying the S8000fd and concluded that it was the best in its class and price range. There are really only three cameras currently occupying this "hybrid-SLR" group--the Fujifilm S8000 of course, the Olympus SP-560 UZ and the Panasonic FZ18. For my money--the Fujifilm S8000fd wins.

By the way, the price on this camera on Amazon.com is almost fifty dollars cheaper than it was when I bought mine only a few weeks ago.

The previous reviewers have said most of what I want to say. Have had the camera for just a little over a fortnight. Still have to see the purple fringing problem (probably since I take a lot of interior and low-available-light shots). The flash is stronger than I was led to believe by some digital camera review sites. The ability to use SD cards is a great relief since it's suddenly become difficult to find high speed Xd cards where i live. A zippy, do-it-all wonder: everyone I've shown it to (even the DSLR owners) can't help firing off a few shots-- an unexpected psychic reward.

Nice point and shoot camera. Price is good. A great starter camera or use as a spare. I have had problems with cameras in this price range with premature death under 2 years - Pentax, Samsung. I don't expect this one to last long either. My $600 + digital cameras have preformed without premature death, but they are bigger to carry - this one is so convenient. The battery price is not $50 - check around. I purchased one for under $12 with free shipping.

I purchased this camera after recieving another "12MP" camera from e-bay as a gift. I was dissapointed in the 12MP camera, so wasn't expecting much from this little 5.1 MP one, but WOW was I surprised!

From the moment I took this camera out of the box, I loved it. It is easy to setup and use, and looks sleek. I have a friend who purchased a $500 digital camera, and found that she likes mine better for ease of use, bigger LCD screen, and portability!

The battery lasts absolutely forever - I charged it for about 3 hours when I first got it, and didn't have to charge it again for about 2 weeks, and I took a lot of pictures, and some video, in that time. The pictures are very clear when printed,and also very clear on the huge LCD screen. This camera has your basic shooting modes (outdoor, action, portrait, b & w, sepia, etc) and it also has a really cool feature that takes one picture with flash and one without in questionable lighting - this has been a very handy feature and definitely saved some of my pictures that would have been too dark.

This camera is definitely durable too! I have dropped it in my house several times, and I haul it around in my purse everywhere,and it has hardly gotten a scratch on it.

***UPDATE*** While I still love this camera, I am somewhat disapointed with the quality and with Fuji's customer service. I purchased this camera in March 2007. In November 2007, the camera "froze", it will not turn on or do anything. I have had repeted conversations with Fuji's warranty department on the phone, and they insist the camera is out of warranty even though I had only had it for 8 months when it broke! It is now March 2008, and I will not deal with Fuji's complete lack of customer service for the repairs anymore, and am trying to find someone local to fix it. For anyone looking to buy this camera, I suggest that you make sure that there is a local Fuji-approved repair shop in your state (there are none in Utah, where I live) so you don't have to deal with Fuji's New Jersey facility for warranty repairs. They are a total joke.

Bought this (in the nice brown color) after great experience with two other F30 cameras. It has the same sensor but not a great lens, so I was a little skeptical of image quality.

As expected, the sensor is good (but not as great as the F30) and the lens is a letdown. Colors are very accurate, but images come out fuzzy due to noise. Camera loves 400 ISO when on auto.

I set it manually to 100 ISO and took an indoor shot. The center of the image was very sharp but the edges came out pretty soft and *noise is visible* at this lowest ISO setting; an important issue to note. I bought the Z5fd mainly for indoor shots. Outdoors, on a bright day, I have no doubt that the results will be excellent.

I agree with most other reviews about the excellent metering. Pictures come out very nice.

It is a good pocket-able camera at the ~$150 price-range. My only other experience with a similar camera is with a Sony T9 which takes horrible indoor shots. The T9 has an image stabilizer while the Z5fd compensates with face detection.

People looking at the Z5fd camera may instead want to pick up the F20 while it is still available. I would return the Z5 but wife loves it (sleek and brown in color) so it stays.

I have mixed feeling about this camera. It has a good form factor, great build quality and ease of use, but image quality is a letdown.

In short:

Image Quality: above average for folded zoom optics; below average when compared to an F20/F30.
Build Quality: Excellent
Lens: barely Average
LCD: Nice and fluid
Metering: Excellent
Image stabilization: NO
Face Detection: Yes

I bought this camera last week and I love it. I have a large zoom digital camera (Panasonic Lumix) for wild life photos on vacation. But I wanted a small point and shoot to take mostly inside photos of my dog, in low light. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 that takes great outside photos, but horrible, blurry inside photos. I found that unless my dog sat completely still, every photo blurred. Not with my new Fuji. I've taken at least 300 photos in the last 5 days and they're terrific. I mostly use the Anti-blur setting with a red eye reduction flash for my dog, and I haven't been disappointed. I also looked at the Canons, but found them to be slow in writing speed and flash recycle time. I considered the Fuji F40d or F50d at $250, but the flash recycle time was very slow on the F50d, which is the newer version. For $150, I have a great camera that does exactly what I want it to. Great battery life considering how much I've been playing with it in the last week. I recommend it.

All the positive points cited by other reviewers are true. Lightweight, easy to use point and shoot. I found it fine for indoors use. But outside, the LCD display was so dark all I could see was my own reflection. No way I knew what I was shooting. So, regretfully, I am returning what is otherwise a good little camera, and I will stick to my (much heavier) Canon powershot with viewfinder - even without the viewfinder, the display on the Canon shows up better in daylight than does the Fuji.

It has a very cool feature: the face recognition, it works very nicely. I have been toying with it just for fun and the camera recognizes most of the faces as long as they are fully facing the camera or not looking away more than 50% to the sides. It's a very cool feature and it does it's best job in focusing and color compensating to make the faces look better.

The camera is very slim and fits nicely in any of my pockets. To turn it on you just slide the cover to the side and are ready to shoot. Plenty of manual settings and some buttons to get to specific functions.

With a 2Gb memory card I get almost 30min of video at VGA resolution, more than enought to get the funny little videos and show panoramic views of a place.

Another cool feature is the "normal & flash" option, which takes one picture with ambient light and immediately another with flash, so you can be sure to get a good picture at least.

I'm very happy with this camera.

Only low grade I can give is the lack of an optical viewfinder, I find that the large LCD display is not very useful on harsh daylight (as I'm used to reflex cameras) and I don't like to hold the camera so far away from my body because of the instability that causes. It would be nicer to hold the camera against my face to provide support.

Additions after reading the above reviews:
All true complaints of the reviewers, but there are some solutions.

Set the auto switch off to 2 minutes, even if the camera is turned on in your pocket (it does when you slide it into the pocket due to the direction of the opening motion).

Battery, at my pace, the battery won't last a full day, so I bought a backup battery, very cheap and convenient.

Finger blocking the lens, is just a case of learning how to hold the camera. At first is annoying but is no big deal after a few days.

Quality of lens, hey if you want professional quality, this is not the camera, this is an point and shoot camera, convenient to carry at all times, just to grab the photo opportunity and avoid blaming yourself the rest of your life for not getting "that shot" on time.

I have been involved with photograpy for over fifty years, purchasing about one new camera per year. This one was for my wife, but I like so much i may steal it.

Please don't call this a point and shoot, It is no toy, this is a serious camera that does things that Canon and Nikon can't match even for an additional $1,000.

First the F/ 2.8 lens functions very well, even in dim light, all the way from 28mm to 400mm without ever having to carry or swap in another lens. This is a BIG advantage when you are traveling.

Second the sensor is a revounary breakthrough. 1/2 the size of the big boys for better depth of field, twice the size of the cheapies for better noise control. This sensor and lens were designed together as a package, Nothing stuck on here.

The list of features is too long to list, but chances are if you want it is here, plus some things you didn't even know that you wanted. Can you tell that I like it!

Плохо

Had my S100fs for two months, the flash stopped working so sent it to Fuji in Bedford for repair. They have sent me a bill for £99.99 whilst still under warranty, they also offered an alternative of trade in value of £40.50 to put in against a new camera. I am totally disgusted with Fuji for the lack of service and after sales. Try ringing them!! Took me 50 mins to get through

Великолепно

I'm going on a trip to Europe and needed a new camera. I wanted a simple camera that takes great pictures and has long battery life. My new Fuji is all of this. You can figure out how to work it straight out of the box without needing to look at a manual. All the features are great, the pictures look nice. The battery is easy to charge and lasts quite a while. I would definitely recommend this camera for anyone who needs a high-quality, simple camera. Plus, you can't beat the price.

The reason i bought this camera is because it claimed to have "image stabilization." That is a bunch of bull. The anti-blur mode is even worse then the normal shooting mode. You cannot take pictures without a flash. You cannot take distance pictures without blur. Basically the only thing the camera can do is take up close pictures with a flash. I am returning it and am just going to re-purchase my original cannon i had that was only 7mp but took much much better pictures and videos....

Small camera, the only negative thing is that the screen edge shouldn't be out of the camera, it should be flat.
But the camera it's still ok...
