I sit about 4 or 5 feet from a window air conditioner and it takes a really good microphone to filter out that background noise. I originally purchased Icemat Siberia Headset (Black) but the microphone didn't work well for speech recognition. The microphone on this headset works extremely well. Also, the headset is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I am very pleased with Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 and this headset. I'm using it right now to write this review, or should I say "talk" this review.The Icemat USB headset really slowed my computer down while gaming. I am very happy to report that this headset does not or if it does it's not enough to be noticeable.Okay now for a couple of very minor complaints. Firstly, the headset didn't come with any software, I had to download the software from their website. Which is okay I guess, but as much money as these cost the software should be included. Lastly, the headset is very light weight. That's one reason why you can wear them so long. But they seem a little flimsy. All in all, this is the nicest headset I've ever used.

I spend a lot of time during business hours on Skype and this is an extremely comfortable headset. The sound quality is excellent and it even helps screen out some room noise (though it is not a noise cancelling type of headset. Folks on the other end of the line tell me that the voice quality is also very good.Minor nit, i wish the color coding on the plugs was a little brighter and higher contrast but that's pretty picky to be honest.

The sound is great, however they are very uncomfortable if you wear glasses, problems with noise cancellation working with Skype & Audio Hijack Pro in OS X. I have to edit out noise on my end in post production to use for podcasting. It is NOT plug and play with windows 2000, and the drivers are very difficult to find online (still waiting to hear back from Plantronic's help center.) For around 50 bucks you do get great sound quality, but the software shortcomings, discomfort, and difficulty to install are concerns.

I purchased this headset to use with Skype, and I am very happy with it. The sound is great, the mic works really well, and, compared to most headsets, I find it to be mostly very comfortable to wear. The only slight discomfort comes after using it for more than four hours, when the ear piece becomes very warm, but I think that's an issue with most headsets.

I've used this product for about a year as a Skype headset. Both the microphone and earphone exhibit very good sound quality with clear audio and comfortable volume levels.I recommend purchasing the Plantronics PC Headset Speaker Switch to go with this headset. It makes switching between the headset and your regular speakers very convenient, and it saves wear and tear on the small connectors.

When this baby arrived, I was unsure of it's quality. Much lihghter than the DSP500, and a little smaller. But once I plugged it in, all worries vanished.This unit has better everything:Audio outputsound qualityfreq response ( very important to me as I am very Hard of hearing)Wearable all day with no neck pressure.I would recommend this to everyone!!Wife loves it for VOIP overseas. She can spend hours on the line now without aches.Buy it! period.

I am using the 550DSP headset daily. I used the microphone for speech recognition and for Skype calls. It's great! I watch DVDs with the headphones and I am very satisfied. They are comfortable, durable, and the sound quality is excellent.

I have been using them for over a year and have nothing but the best to say about them: perfect sound quality, quality design that stands up beautifully to daily use, long, soft cord, very comfortable to wear and excellent value (each of those sets was purchased for under $50). I use this headset for gaming, and it's great. The sound quality is excellent -- once I began using it, I heard sound effects in-game that I'd never heard before. Additionally, the surround-sound had me looking over my shoulder and even taking the headset off occasionally to see where that strange sound was coming from.The headset is comfortable to wear for extended periods. Not great, but good. After wearing it for 3+ hours, I feel the need to give my ears a break. This is probably not a bad thing, but don't expect to wear this all day without some discomfort.The microphone works well in the few applications in which I've used it. It works very well in Teamspeak, less so in Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2. However, I believe the reduced sound quality has more to do with the implementation of VoIP in those games than it does with the mic itself, as I have had similar results with other headsets. Voice in HL2 is barely useable; in BF2 it's better, but it's alway necessary to boost the mic to the maximum to get a middling volume level.The only quibble I have with this headset is occasional difficulties with certain applications. The built-in DSP acts as its own sound card, which can make device selection a bit confusing. For instance, in order to use this headset with Teamspeak, you must first have it connected, then select it from a menu (de-selecting your PC's installed sound card). Once that's done, it doesn't need to be done again, but Teamspeak will complain if you then try to launch without the headset connected. I've also had other apps revert back to the installed sound card instead of the headset/DSP. This only requires a quick menu change, and is almost certainly the fault of the application (not the headset), but it can be confusing and frustrating.Overall, I am very happy with this product. I would recommend it highly to online gamers, and I believe it would work well for music and video on the PC. If you're just going to be talking over Skype, this might be overkill, but if sound quality is important, this headset is a good investment.

This headset is somewhat uncomfortable, you can't adjust it very much, the earpieces don't swivel enough. There's an odd plastic piece at the top that holds the two headphone speakers apart, which I think was added for comfort, but actually just makes it harder to adjust.The sound quality is okay, but not what I would expect out of a $120 headset (at Fry's, but then I found it for $60 on NewEgg, which is more reasonable for the quality).It also craps out on me occassionally. When I opened the package, the insert said I might have to "restart the application" whenever the headsets stop working. You don't need to install the application, which you download online only, if you're using a Mac. The Plantronics website said, Macs will work without installing anything. The second time I tried plugging my headset into my Powerbook, it worked, but when I opened GarageBand, it quit working, and I had to unplug and replug it in again to get it to work.This would have been fine if this was all. However, every time I plug it in, I have to go to System Preferences and select the headset for my audio and/or mic input. It doesn't do it automatically. :-(

This is a great product. Amazing quality and very comfortable for my head (which is of the smaller size). My only complaint is that the volume remote attached to the cord does not effect the Mac version of Skype. This is Skype's fault, as they dont have independent audio controls for the program.Other than that, this is a great headset and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Skype/gaming headset.

Today no matter what you do with your PC, audio quality is becoming very important to user. Most of applications today pay significant attention to audio to guide, prompt and entertain user.. Most of us who love finer sound quality when listing to music or movies keep on buying better and better headsets thru out our life, but no matter how much latest headset costs it usually has two major problems. It is never comfortable on ear and head for wearing it for hours, and it can not deliver better sound then source which supplies it.If you use such expensive analog headset on your PC for experiencing sound of games, movies and music, you are out of luck since it can't deliver sound better then one supplied by sound card or sound chip inside your PC. Sound card and sound chip inside PC may suffer from low cost, low quality and also from magnetic interference, and heat inside PC. To solve this riddle, Plantronics, a light weight headset maker since 1962 has introduced DSP series of headset. DSP stands for "Digital Signal Processing". Unlike analog headsets, this DSP headsets don't use and don't need sound card or chip inside your PC. Even if your PC has sound card, it won't be used. Headset has 3 meter long cord which also houses small box with sound chip, equivalent of sound card inside PC but away from all heat, dust and magnetic distortions inside PC. Sound exists in analog form only where it absolutely has to be between the user and the headset module; from there it travels digitally to and from PC.Though DSP-500 is marketed by Plantronics for gaming, it is recommended for anyone watching movies on PC or listening to music on PC or using PC to make phone calls over internet. Thanks to its ultra-sensitive microphone and noise canceling technology these headsets are ideal for speech recognition software. IBM Via Voice Pro USB 10 ships with DSP-300 headset from Plantronics. If you are mobile professional carrying laptop, use DSP-400 which is smaller and foldable. It took a long time to find anything like this. I wanted a stereo headset with mic, with just the in-ear buds rather than the over-head or behind-head deals. These work great, and the sound is fine. Unfortunately now I hear the flaws in some of my vinyl recordings and will have to redo them! They fit right into my ears and stay very well. Comfortable for several hours at a time, although if your ears are small these might be a bit big. They seem to be about the same size as Apple iPod earphones.

This headset is SO UNCOMFORTABLE that I can't wear them for more than 5 minutes. Come on, who makes square ear pads?? Plus, the inside of each ear pad has solid, hard plastic that presses against your ears. Sure, the microphone works great but the only thing you'll be able to record are the sounds of your screams from the shear discomfort of wearing these.Avoid at all costs!

I purchased this headset in September of 2005 due to the excellent ratings (except for the one guy, who I believe just had a faulty headset).I used this headset every day for 16+ hours. Continuously. It was used for gaming, Skype, music. The microphone quality was astounding. If I call from Skype, people say it sounds like you're talking on the phone. People don't hear a lot of background static noise. If there is a lot of white noise in the background, it is almost always cancelled out.As for hearing on my end, the quality is great. It is clear and crisp, as if they were with me.The comfort is always really nice. Having the headset on for so many hours every day could be quite painful if you don't have the right one. This one, however, fits snugly but not too tight (although I did let a friend borrow it and she complained that it presses against her very large earrings and is uncomfortable). If for some reason it gets a bit too tight when its tilted or something on my head, a quick movement will take care of it. The band on the top of the headset makes it so it doesnt pull your hair or anything when you move it around.My only complaints are:- the cover to the microphone fell off after about 3 months of use. I am not sure if it was just not glued on properly or what. It didn't affect sound quality, but it looked better aesthetically.- after 10 months of use, my headset has developed a loose wire in the microphone. I can hear people on the other end, but it sometimes fades out on my end. Therefore I am going to order another one of these headsets to fix the issue.

The DSP-500 is a great gaming headset. I have owned probably 10 pairs of these over the past 5 years and use them just about every day for online gaming. I have a pair set up also for both my sons who each game as well.Very simple to use...just plug them into the USB port of your computer. Done. The in-line volume and mute buttons come in very handy as well for making adjustments on the fly. The cord is VERY long and makes it great for moving around your computer while keeping the headset on......I listen to satellite radio online while working in my office and these give me the freedom to move around my office space. The boom mic can be moved up or down as needed.The ear pieces may be a bit large for some but personally I like having a complete cover over my ear area. This blocks out surrounding noise and gives me the full digital sound experience the headset can offer.I highly recommend these. I have 3 sets in use right now between myself and my kids, all using them for online gaming. I even keep one extra set in storage for when needed (my kids can get a bit rough with them!!). They are a very durable headset but over constant use, day in and day out, you must expect some wear. For the price/quality ratio you can't find a better headset in my opinion.

I've been using this headset for about 4 months now, and am very pleased with it except the part where my I start getting headache after about 2 hours of gaming, which is not a completely bad thing, just forces me to take a small break and let my eyes rest for a little.Also this headset, when plugged in, blocks all other audio devices. In order to put the sound to my speakers I have to unplug the headset and change prefs to use my mobo surround sound. I'm pretty positive that this happens because the headset is using a USB interface, and there is some kind of conflict between the audio drivers... hopefully plantronics will release a patch for it ... sometime ... hopefully...Software is pretty worthless, but have to have it in order to have good quality sound.Headset is also a bit pricy, but justifies the sound quality!

I originally had gotten a headset that goes around the ears. It was fairly comfortable for awhile, but would eventually make my ears hurt. I've been using this headset for about three weeks now and love it. The sound is good, and I can wear it for several hours without any discomfort at all. I've ended up buying two more headsets for my daughter and my sister to use, and both of them really like it also. I highly recommend this to anyone doing computer gaming!

This is now my preferred Skype headset. I was previously using a wireless Linksys CIT300 phone which worked well but did not offer the same sound quality. It's hard to compete with a corded solution that covers both ears. This is an over the ear cushion model but it kind of sits on the ears rather than over them. I have other headsets that are more comfortable because they fully enclose the ears.

I absolutely loved my DSP-100 for the several years I used it. When it finally succumbed to the rigors of daily use, I went in search of another headset to replace it. Being an online gamer who frequently communicates with other players over voice chat networks, I needed a headset that offered excellent sound quality and comfort, both features I found in my DSP-100. I had become accustomed to playing the game's sound through my external speakers and routing the voice chat through the headset (keeping the games ambient sounds ambient while keeping the voices clear, close, and unmolested by the game's sounds), so a USB headset was a must.I tried other headsets by different manufacturers, but none of them offered the clarity and comfort I found in my old Plantronics headset, and while the USB offerings from Plantronics (DSP-400 and DSP-500) were more pricey than I wanted to pay (and I actually didn't want a stereo headset), to get the quality I wanted, the two offerings from Plantronics came under consideration. After some deliberation, I decided on the DSP-500.After a month of nightly use, this headset has proven to be an excellent purchase. The quality is excellent, the headset comfortable (despite its size), and the construction feels sturdy and solid with thick pieces that fit together cleanly and thick wires that don't feel like they'll break (a complaint I've had with cheaper headphones and headsets). This headset may be a bit pricey, but the old addage 'you get what you pay for' holds true. Although I have decent PC speakers and headphones for listening to music and watching movies, the sound quality of this headset stands up to both of them.

I keep them in my laptop case and find them comfortable to use and the sound quality, although not as high quality as other headsets I have used, is more than adequate for Messenger, Skype, etc.

The Headset is GREAT!! the sound is crisp and clear with great bass and tremble. The only annoying thing about the headset is that it has its own sound card..great for people who dont have sound cards...but not so great if you have a sound card already, you see in order to use the headset you have to set your computer to alternate between soundcards you cant have both "on" you have to turn "off" one or the other. Turn on the headset if you plan to frag people on-line then turn off the headset if you want to hear a movie on your speakers. Overall I can live with this annoyance of turning on and off sound cards, but for others maybe you should consider somthing else that doesnt come with its own sound card if your computer already has one.

Excellent gaming headset and extremely comfortable to wear for hours.I play World of Warcraft online using Teamspeak a lot and this headset is just great. Sound is crisp and clear and other gamers say I come through clearly.I find that if I am playing WoW and need to use Teamspeak if I plug in my headset then open Teamspeak that my game music and sounds will come through the computer and only Teamspeak will come through the headphones which is terrific.It has a very long cord which can either be great if you want to walk around the room or else it can be in the way. I just wrap up some of the cord with a twist tie and it solves that problem.I highly recommend this headset for serious gamers.

This is the most comfortable set of headphones I've ever found. Over the last couple of months, I've found that I can wear them for hours without my ears feeling like they've been trapped; very nice for long gaming sessions. The sound quality is excellent, as is the capture quality from the mic. The adjustable mic arm is very handy, especially when you're not using the voice capabilities and want it in the upright position to be completely out of your way. The cord is both good and not-so-good - it's LOOOOOOONG, so you don't have to worry about being tethered to your computer. You can move your chair back, walk around a bit, and you're still ok. The less-than-good part is that the power brick/DSP is a bit bulky. Luckily, it's right at the end of the cord, so you can park it next to your computer and still have all that cord available to let you walk around with.I use them with my Mac at home, and they've worked great so far. The only "issue" I've had is that I've been in the habit of turning the in-game volume to the max on most everything, and then adjusting the system volume to compensate. These headphones tend to amplify the volume a bit, so I've ended up tweaking the in-game volume down a lot. This has meant that my system volume now usually sits around the middle of the volume bar instead of on the bottom couple of lines. Kind of funny that it took a pair of nice headphones to convince me to use the volume settings the way they're intended!

I purchased these in March, 06, as a replacement for another Plantronics headset. I also ordered (and returned) the Logitech Premium USB Headset 350: if you're a conehead, the Logitech 350 will fit you. It's tight, uncomfortable on the ear, totally odd combination mute/volume button. The Plantronics DSP-500, at only ~$10 more, is a much better value: well-constructed, extremely comfortable to wear, great sound, lighted mute switch, easy to use volume switch.Earlier reviews have noted other pros/cons of the DSP-500, but I want to emphasize that these are the most comfortable headsets I've ever used. If you are looking for comfortable headsets that you can wear for hours and hours, the Plantronics series is for you. If you sneeze, however, or bend over to find something on the floor, don't expect these to cling to your head. They _will_ fall off, or close to it. That is the only reason I voted these 4 stars.Other good things about the DSP-500:-USB connection is a great plus, truly plug and play. I haven't had any of the static/noise problems other reviewers mentioned.-the mute button lights up so you can tell if you are still muted, vs. a slide switch on other headsets.-sound quality is excellent.-plenty of padding on the ears. If you're gaming for hours, these are the sets for you.-easy to adjust microphone.

I use this headset for World of Warcraft via Ventrilo.It has great clarity and volume in the mic with absolutely no distortion. I have heard my own voice in recorded gaming sessions and mine is the most clear (and the least annoying).The only reason I would not give this headset the full 5 is that it has a big module thing on the cord that constantly gets in the way. So maybe 4.5 if I could.

I've had mine for months and have played countless hours of Battlefield 2 and used them with TeamSpeak. They sound terrific, fit will and all around were a nice purchase.I'm giving them 4 stars because I would have preferred an option/design that allowed me to move the mic to the other side of my head. Not a huge deal, but what I was used to wasn't the left side.Solid purchase.

I like the feel, the sound, and the quality of this PC headset, but I have a few complaints and reasons why I favor the logitech PC gaming headset much more. First of all, I do not like the idea of sound being transmitted through the USB port. Most computers have headphone/microphone jacks that are directly connected to the PC sound card. Why waste a valuable USB port on a headset when the ports for these type of devices are already present?Secondly, if you are looking for a PC gaming headset, I found these to cause game freezes way too often. Again, going through USB ports to get sound is not the most efficient means. I highly reccommend a more standard 1/8 mini plug setup direct to the mic and headset ports.Good luck.

I was looking for a headset/mic for playing World of Warcraft - needed to hear game sounds plus be able to communicate on Ventrilo or TeamSpeak.My first purchase was the Logitech 350. The sound was very nice but after 2-3 hours of use, I had to change the position of the headset because it just crushed my ears. It got to the point where I had to move the headset forward on my head with the earpieces barels touching my ears.So, after reading some reviews on the Plantronics, I decided to give them a go.The greatest benefit of these is that they are so comfortable. The tension is perfect and you get no pain at all! yes, if you shake your head, they will fall off, but why would you be shaking your head?The sound quality is not that great - more treble/metallic than the Logitech. I'm sure I could play with some sound settings but at this point, I'm very content with them.So, the main reason you buy these is for the comfort. If you are wanting great sound, I suggest looking elsewhere.

I just got one of these and the sound quality -- both for playing back and recording -- is leagues ahead of the cheapy little headset I was previously using.The size isn't ideal for travel, but the results are great.I plugged the USB cable into my PowerBook, and it worked instantly. Nice job!

I bought this headset a little over a year ago. Immediately I loved them! First of all, they have great quality. I can hear every little detail, which is important for gamers :) Also, the mic quality is very good so people I talk to over the internet can hear me as if I were sitting next to them. Next, they are comfortable. You can game for hours with these. Finally, the cord is long (3 meters), which is both good and bad. Sometimes it can get caught up but its also nice to be able to roll around in your chair a bit and still have extra cable.Over the course of a year, my headset was dropped a couple times, fell off my desk, etc. Well, the mic finally stopped working so I couldn't talk to anybody anymore. Well, I finally got around to ordering a new pair. GREAT DELIVERY TIME! I ordered them Sunday night around 10 pm. They came Tuesday afternoon around 5pm. They recommended delivery time was 8-10 days later.I just absolutely love this headset and I thank Plantronics for making them. I recommend these to anybody that wants a great headset!

The sound quality is phenomenal. It makes internet radio sound CD quality. The USB feature is also very convenient and well worth the extra price. They are comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and the mic works great for VoIP--also with great sound quality.

I've had this headset for going on three months now. It's wonderfully comfortable (and this is something I'm picky about-- bad headsets give me headaches), installation is plug-and-play easy, and it sounds great. The directional sound is particular good for FPS games. It's also worth noting that it's a very sturdy design; I've stepped on it, smashed it with my chair leg, and my cat has attacked it on numerous occasions, and it keeps on ticking. Overall it's been a great purchase and I'd recommend it to others.

I'm overly critical of sound quality. At home i have the Tritton surround sound headset running off optical connection. this doesnt' compare to that but the Tritton is $99 too.For the $ this is really nice. Sound, microphone and wire quality are all good. Controls are easy to use and the software is easy to use too. They're also fairly comfortable. Good headset for work.

I must say that I haven't purchased a headset/headphones in several years. I'd rather have a convenient, cheap audio solution (my small, over-the-ear, $15 Koss headphones, for instance) than super, 5.1 Dolby Digital headphones. But when I wanted a microphone/headphone set in order to talk through Skype, I decided to put a little more money into my purchase.And here's a case where you get much more than you pay for. The sound quality is absolutely amazing. Maybe it's due to the cheapo headsets I've had before...but I am absolutely floored by how good this headset sounds. They are also some of the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. And the microphone is just as good. I've used several headset-mounted and free-standing computer microphones in the past and this one is by far the best I've ever used.The one issue I have with the set is that it is USB and, at least on my computer, I can't get the audio to come out of my computer speakers while using the microphone for an input.

I bought this headset primarily to use with Skype, but also for gaming when I did not want to disturb others.Right away I noticed the sound quality was exceptionally poor, but it did function so I just accepted it's limitations. I RARELY use the headset.Yesterday I needed to place a Skype call only to discover that the headset is dead. I have tried everything to get it working again, including uninstalling and reinstalling the software and drivers. I even downloaded the latest drivers and software from the website, but to no avail.It is dead. Cheap and dead. I do not recommend buying this headset at all. Even if you happen to get one that actually works, the quality of the audio is awful anyway. Steer clear of this one!

I love everything about them, but I am in Iraq and use a computer phone to call home, I ordered these hoping they would help Everything works great but the microphone. I cannot get it to work with the Call Serve Phone. So they are a $55.00 set of head phones that I do not need. I have down loaded from Plantronics, even the test with the phone for audio works on the phone but no one can hear me. It worked one time, really good so it might be something besides them. But that does not help me.

Sounds great, until you drop it and the thing falls apart. So, you snap it back together and go on, and then it falls apart again. And then the mic starts pissing everybody off in Vent because it makes a whine. Not worth the money.

I bought these here a couple weeks ago and have been amazed at the sound .I play games and now hearing thing with these that I never heard before ,headset is very comfortable.My only complaint is the volume on the cable controller doesn't work and I have updated them from Plantronics website.I contacted Plantronics and thier customer service is terrible so I'll have to figure it out myself just haven't had much time to do so .I running a P4800-E deluxe motherboard,3.2 NW Chip,ATI X850XT,1 GiG of Mushkin PC3500 Level II ,WD 800JB,ASUS CDRW,XP PRO SP2Amazon got these to me in 2 days (ups)the price was cheaper than Newegg which is my Favorite but I think I have found a new home.I just which searching for products was easier here,sometimes it a real BEAR.All in ALL I am very impressed with Amazon !!!!! 5 stars

Here are the pros:1) The sound is very good especially for the price.2) VERY comfortable. I play games for hours and hours on end (sometimes 10-15 straight hours). This headset is soooo comfortable. Other headsets I've used make my ears hurt after 2-3 hours.3) With my previous headsets, my friends in teamspeak and ventrilo didn't hear me very clearly sometimes. This is not an issue with this headset.3) very good price with amazon.com4) Estimated arrival time was April 6th to April 10th on a March 28th order. It arrived on March 30th, on free super saver shipping.5) very long, sturdy cord.Cons:1) not as sturdy as I thought it'd be, but looks like it can last a long time if I don't throw it!

I have had this headest exactly two days, so will update as needed. I play World of Warcraft frequently and participate in groups on a regular basis as was looking for a pc headset that would work well gaming-wise. This headset does not disappoint! The ease of USB is undeniable. I just downloaded a more recent driver from Plantronic's website (I do this with most accessories during installing process), then just plug in the USB port - done.The headest has fairly good range. I haven't had a chance to test the DSP yet, so can't comment on that. One concern, the material of the ear cushion is fairly fragile and I'm concerned with the durability of the fabric long term. Otherwise, I'm happy with my purchase

I use this with Skype and have been very pleased. Easy to set up and use and great sound. I work from home and use Skype to keep in touch with my boss and he commented on the significant improvement from this headset. Things also sound great from my end. I've found this headset to be comfortable and sturdy enough.I noticed some reviewers faulting its performance, my only guess is maybe they got a bad headset. Mine have greatly pleased me.

The Plantronics DSP-500 headset is an excellent pair for the price. Used mostly in online games, mic and sound qualities are very good. I recommend this set especially for online gaming and listening to music.
