Hi Guys. I bought this headset in order to try see if my current headset was having issues or if it was my machine.I am a gamer and I use a Ventrilo chat service occasionally while raiding with my guild. This headset works great! It was very easy to set up and works great with our Ventrilo server! Great deal for the money since I didn't want to spend another $50-$100 on another Logitech/Razer headset just to have it break again within a few months!

The headphones and mic work fine on my HP Elitebook 6930p for videoconferencing if you plug into the laptop's jacks. The supplied USB converter is not so good. Plenty of hiss, high frequency whine, and terrible echoing. Fortunately, don't need the USB converter. If you're looking for a headset/mic with a USB converter, look elsewhere. If I had to rate it with the USB converter, it would be completely worthless and worth one star.

I think the Plantronics 645 is the best headset for people who spend their days in front of a computer listening to music, and also need to send and receive calls using Skype. The microphone swings back and stays out of your way when you're not using it. The sound quality is great. The only problem is that the plastic around the earphones is a little too flimsy and sooner or later it separates and you can't really put it back together again. So when I say "buy more than one" I mean, "always have a spare handy". If I could pay twice as much for something with this basic design but built to be more rugged, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I travel a lot and need exactly this type of headset when I'm working remotely. I eagerly await the next revision or "refresh" of this product from Plantronics.

Plantronics makes some really good products and this headset is no exception. The sound quality is really quite good, as is the microphone.The set folds up compactly and while I have no reason to believe it won't hold up over time, the parts are plastic and I treat them accordingly. I think that with reasonable treatment this headset should last for many years.They are comfortable to wear - I just don't care all that much for the over-the-head design. I have the same complaint with my Sennheiser wireless headphones yet I wouldn't trade them (or the Plantronics) for another because the sound quality is so good, so this is not meant to diminish my impression of the quality of the Plantronics; it's just a personal comment about comfort.

For me they are pretty comfortable, and the ear cups are pretty big so that is nice. The audio sounds great and the mic is very clear. For the price of 30 dollars they are great buy if you are looking for a decent headset.I am personally using these for my PS3 with the help of a USB sound card :). They work great on that. People say they can hear me fine and I can hear things moving around me. This was a much cheaper deal than paying $60-70 dollars for turtle beach or the $100+ for Tritton. Usb Soundcards are around 3 dollars and you may want to get a 3.5mm extension jack because the split from the mic jack and the headphone jack is pretty short.To get this to work with your PS3 you plug the USB soundcard into your PS3 and plug the 3.5mm mic jack into the appropriate slot on the card and then use the extension cable to plug the 3.5mm sound jack into your TVs 3.5mm audio slot. Go into your ps3 settings and set the input to the USB soundcard and the output to your TV.Overall it was around 35 bucks total for a complete PS3 Headset.

Plantronics usually makes great headsets so I was very disappointed with these.That said, they are cheaper than dinner so it's hard to complain too much.If you absolutely can't spend more than $30 on a headset this might be the best you can do.Things that weren't great:- When you put these on you can hear everything around you perfectly.- Speakers are shooting through a plastic grate with small holes in it. Resultant range is poor.- Mic quaility is poor.- Giagantic. Colossal. People will feel sorry for you - even your family and friends. Friends and family spontaneously laughed at me when I had these on. I'm not kidding.Things that were nifty:- Mic can be folded up into headset and hidden (though you'll probably never want to go out in public with these - see above).- Inline volume control comes with clip so you can clip it onto your clothes so when/if you stand up you don't rip the headphones off your head.I ended up buying Creative HS-980 MK II to replace these and gave these to my kids.

I am thrilled with the sound and how well the mic works it is sensitive, but excludes room noise. I am learning a language with Rosetta Stone which is fairly sound sensitive. Even though I had a fan running and someone was using the vacum cleaner in the next room they worked well. The sound was amazing I could hear every sylable. The fold up easily and are very comfortable. Before I had a good set from Logitec which I liked and thought worked well which they did but not as good as the Platonics.

Sound quality, sensitivity, fit, ease of use and compatibility with Skype are all great worthy of lots of stars.I was worried that the cheap plastic feeling headphones would break at the mechanical joints, but careful handling has mitigated that concern. Light weight and the ability to be folded into a small space are not the only issues related to a travel optimized product, the ability to survive being jammed into a bag with other items is important too. I haven't tested that function until the headset finally achieved its unreliable state. For the sake of this review I decided to test this ability and I am delightfully surprised at its resiliency.Why the product gets only two stars is that after four months of desk use where I treat the whole apparatus as fragile as it appears, I find that the connecting wires are the real weak link.For the life of me, I can't figure out why Plantronics provides this lengthy run of wire for a travel related item. I don't plan on standing ten feet away from the notebook computer (what else would one take when travelling?), yet the wires are so cheap and thin that a third of a year of wearing and standard desk head movements (no acrobatics or vigourous activity) results in intermittent operation in the ear piece. Shaking the wire restores sound in both ears until the first breeze from the fan, or the slightest head movement. If the earpiece goes out, I can assume that the microphone wire will suffer the same fate.Sadly, it appears that all consumer grade manufacturers of these kinds of devices have conspired to make all their devices fail due to crappy wiring - so I am going to a rechargable bluetooth headset and junking traditional wired versions.My recommendation for manufacturers is to do what Philips did with their noise suppressing earbuds - they encased all of the wiring in a fabric sheath that absorbs the stress of simple everyday desk bound wearing. Several years later and all is well.

This is my third of fourth Plantronics item that I have bought over the last 5 or 6 years. The only reason I had to replace the previous headset, is that it did not work so well with the newer, post Tiger, OS. This, optimised for laptop, set works very well most of the time. I'm surprised, tho', that Plantronics didn't think to work with Apple and/or Skype, to make their superb product an impeccable one.Some people have remarked about the folding fragility. Well, I treat the headset as I do any other similar objects, whether a laptop or iPod, etc. These things are not made of glass, but given a modicum of care, they will last. And last.One point re customer care: yup, they're in Asia. The people are super nice, their accented English is easy to understand, but the scope of what they can do is limited. In Plantronics's case, if those super nice people cannot help you, ask for a US C/S rep. A hint of attitude comes with the latter, but they are VERY helpful. If you email them, the follow up is faboo. Not just once, but sometimes even 3 times. By the last time, if you don't respond and haven't fixed the problem, don't blame them. They REALLY try.The only negative thing: the price. Yes, Plantronics is VERY reliable and, presently, my number one choice, but the price is just a tad too expensive. If the tag on their cordless set doesn't come down to an affordable level, I'll have to consider competition. Perfect quality is a very good thing, but a little noise in the background during a chat on Skype is not of paramount importance.Other than that, Plantronics rules!

I picked up this headset and the sound from the headphones is fantastic.However, the microphone wouldn't pick up anything unless I screamed into it.Honestly, I've heard fantastic reviews of these headsets, and I'm chalking it up to a lemon. I'll be buying another in the future for sure, but I'm returning this headset for a refund.

Works decently, all around great sound and voice. It works great on Skype and other things like that. I also like the USB, the sound quality is twice as good.Other than that, the joints on the top seem to like pinching your hair. That's the only bad thing I've noticed about them.

I bought this headset for my HP Mini which has a combined jack for mic and headphones -- you can only use one of those devices at a time ! So, the only way I could find to use a separate headset was to buy a USB model. Having used Plantronics products for years, I anticipated a quality unit. The audio quality from both the headphones and microphone is excellent. Listening to music is a pleasure with quite good bass response and what my ears consider to be a good range of frequency response. Using the headset on Skype, the reports from those I have called are good.My only real concern is the durability of the headset. It is plastic and there are a lot of joints to deal with. With care, it should last. When folded it fits nicely into a larger size soft-side sunglasses case which may offer some protection in my briefcase. Time will tell. Another minor issue is the length of the cord. It is about 9' long and simply WAY too long for use while traveling. I ended up bundling and tie-wrapping about 5' of the cord neatly to keep it out of the way.As usual, Amazon shipped it reaonably quickly in a box but with minimal packing material. Thankfully Plantronics packaged it well enough that it didn't get destroyed enroute. Come on Amazon, learn to pack things properly ! ! !Overall, if this headset doesn't self-destruct, I'll be a very happy buyer.

I only use these to play World of Warcraft. These headphones are comfortable; they have soft padding; and everyone I raid with can understand me clearly. They could have better bass response, but that's not really a big complaint seeing as they were $25 when I picked 'em up.

Headset does not have enough tension to stay on my head, and I do not have a small head!2A. Because of #2, the speakers don't rest fully on ears making sound more faint.3. Size adjustment slips and slides requiring repeated adjustment.I had purchased Plantronics pro level headsets for my business in the past and they were great. this product was EXTREMELY disappointing.

It really depends what you plan to do with these headphones (obviously aside from the fact your going to listen to some sort of audio thru it):]But I mean, in terms of gaming (which is what I bought it for), its okay/good. It really boils down to the person, if your all about high def sound and you want to hear every step from every angle, this isn't for you..If your someone that doesn't care about that and want a nice pair of headphones for a good price, this is the perfect choice. Plus, they look nice and it is definitely comfortable on the ears. My personal favorite part about these headphones is how you can tuck the mic back in once your done, you don't have to worry about it wobbling around on the outer end of the headphones or hanging loose. At the price this comes for, these are the best headphones you can find, if your willing to spend another $20 for a better headset, I'd definitely advise that

I bought this set to keep in touch with home when I went to college, in August 09. It is very comfy and convenient, but I was always leery of folding it up and taking it anywhere, because it seemed so fragile. As I feared, less than a year after use, the wire began separating from the volume control box/clip. It still functions now, but sometimes during my calls, the microphone stops working and I have to fiddle with the wire and disconnect, then reconnect the mic jack. :( Disappointing for the price that I paid.

I absolutely love this headset, it's comfortable, the sound is good - I love the behind the head design...BUT I have had to replace this headset at least four times in the past two years. Something always seems to go wrong - my most recent purchase of this headset has only lasted a couple of months before the casing broke where it connects to the earpiece, exposing the wire and causing only one earphone to have sound. The microphone has stopped working as well. I could see this being a problem if I were the type of person to abuse their electronics, but I make it a point to take the utmost care of my electronics. All in all it is a great headset, it just doesn't seem to hold up to a lot of use. I would recommend it to perhaps a casual gamer or someone who uses VOIP from time to time, but if you spend hours at a time doing either of these things do not expect it to last.

I use these headphones for everything: skype, games, and music. It's comfortable, and the sound quality is good for voice and sound.-The only problem I have with it is that the construction is not sturdy enough for my needs. After a year of using these headphones and carrying it in my laptop bag, the microphone piece finally broke. Although the earpiece is very comfortable, it falls off frequently and I have to part it back on.+The microphone is not noise canceling but still works well enough for chatting in a noisy office.+The sound quality is pretty good for music.+USB adapter is very handy and you can use it on other headsets with 3.5mm plugs for microphone and sound.It's definitely worth the price, if you don't use these headphones for travel.

They sound great. The microphone works well. They plug right in to your audio jacks so you don't need any extra drivers or added complexity. They also come with a USB adapter, which I seem to have promptly lost!My only gripe is that they could be a little more compact when folded. I have to carry a lot of stuff when I travel, so I tend to buy the smallest stuff I can. These - between the folding frame and the gobs of wire - are not particularly compact, but they work so well that I will try traveling with them anyway.

This is a great headset. Sounds fine, and the mic works with no problem. My only complaint, if it is one, is that the nine foot cable is just too long. Even folded up and bundled with tie wraps it's just a bit too bulky to carry with you. Otherwise, no complaints.

I bought these headphones because they are recommended by MacSpeech for use with their Dictate speech recognition software (well, this is actually the successor to the one they recommend. Amazon apparently ships this one in place of the Audio 400)First off, the build quality on these headphones is rather poor. I can't see the headband staying intact for more than a few months and looks like it might snap at any minute just by putting them on my head. The foam ear pads are flimsy and uncomfortable and the cord is also very flimsy and tangle prone. Overall, they remind me of the free headphones that airlines give out with an added microphone (which is no gem to look at itself)Sound quality, both microphone and headphone, was subpar (or worse). The sound was clear, but had a very quiet maximum volume as far as maximum volumes go. It got distorted at max volume too, forcing me to keep it at about medium. I suppose this would be fine for conversation as long as the other party spoke loudly enough, but don't expect to use them for music (very poor bass and mid range).And finally, the purpose I bought this headset for: speech recognition. I use a Macbook Pro, and I originally tried the Dictate software out with the built in microphone. Sitting about 3-4 feet away from my computer and talking at a normal conversational volume and pace with no particular regard for where the microphone was relative to myself, I was able to get a 2/5 star rating from the Dictate software. In actual use, I managed to speak about a page worth of text (after the software had calibrated everything and I was speaking into a text editor). I averaged about 8 misspelled or misunderstood words per paragraph.Again, that was with my built in mic 3-4 feet away. So I figured with a proper, certified, headset I could get that inaccuracy down to nearly zero words per paragraph. Well, the audio 470 certainly did not perform. In fact, I couldn't even get the software to advance past the calibration stage. It asks you to read several lines of text and the software checks to see if it can understand you. After about an hour of trying and frequently having to repeat words and sentences up to 8 times before they were recognized (something I never had to do when using the computer's built in mic), I gave up and decided to return the headset.Others gave this headset good reviews, which makes me wonder if I just got a lemon. Regardless, the build quality and performance combined don't even warrant giving this product a 1. Buy at your own caution.

When I first got this headset, I thought, "WOW!" They sounded fantastic, and the audio they recorded was beautiful. They hurt my ears after twenty minutes of wearing, but I figured I needed to break them in.One month later, the noise reduction on the headset failed. It began echoing the sound from the headphones into the microphone after two months.Four months in, the microphone stopped picking up sounds as loudly as before, and started creating a robotic noise. The headphones started cutting out, when the balance is set to "center", it cuts out the instrumental parts of music tracks, and makes everything else quiet (like a backwards karaoke track). If I put it on left or right balance, it would play fine out of both sides, unless I tilted my head to one side or the other.Finally, five months in, the microphone died. It picks up me tapping on it, but nothing else.I will not be buying another pair, nor another set of Plantronics. They never did gain comfort beyond a couple hour's worth of wear, and the microphone did not work properly for long enough.I'm going with a Blue Microphone Snowflake and Sony MDR-V600's.

This product is so good because I'm so rough with headsets...most logitech ones break within like 3-6 months of use for me. This headset broke in 9 months...but here is the thing....they shipped me a new one over night while it was in warranty. Amazing service...just don't forget to keep your receipt.Military grade cabling on this sucker it seems...I never had problems with the headset sound going out at all. Unlike many Logitech and Microsoft headsets Ive used in the past.The sound Quality on it is great...its not 5.1 surround but its great...if you want better get the 377. You will not be disappointed...Jamming out now with this bad pair of headsets...Going to keep using Plantronics till the day I die...Thanks Plantronics! btw I'm getting the Voyager Pro soon to. #1 in headsets for a reason!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay,I'll be honest and reveal that I bought these on a lark. After moving to a new home, I found that my Telex Digital USB microphone that I'd been using for DNS 9 Preferred and had been training for so long had been smashed inside a packing box. This was disconcerting because that microphone is no longer made.Coming to Amazon.com, I specifically looked for USB headsets that reviewers said worked well with DNS 9 Preferred, and I was amazed that so few people had reviewed microphones for use with this program. Just about the only USB headset that anyone had mentioned at the time as being good with voice recognition software was this one. At about 30 bucks, I thought it was worth a try.So I plug it into the USB port and do the shortest training I can find, creating a new user for use with this microphone. To my shock, dictation on this microphone after such short training was even better than I had achieved in many months of training on the Telex USB Digital microphone! This fact was made all the more bizarre because DNS 9 Preferred's user set up did not appear to like this microphone at all: this microphone only achieves a signal-to-noise rating of 18-19, while the Telex was easily up into the mid-20s consistently and easily. Go figure. But I sure am NOT complaining.True, the build is a bit fragile feeling, so I'm not sure just how "optimized for laptop use" these truly are. Yes they fold up very small, but they don't do so without resistance, and I'm not quite sure how much folding and unfolding they will take before breaking into tiny pieces. But, for a desktop where I can simply hang them up when I'm not using them, I think their build quality will not be such a big issue.I didn't think I'd use it, but the shirt-pocket volume control and mic mute have come in quite handy when watching streaming video, catching up on some TV shows I've missed during the move.I'm not quite sure how significant the Dragon/Nuance/ScanSoft/whoever-owns-them-this-week rating of the low signal to noise ratio for these is. It might not be great for all programs, but it seems to work well for DNS 9, and that's all I use them for.The one star negative I added in, making this a four-star rating, comes from what so many of us have come to experience as the "Chinese Build-Quality Syndrome." (Don't try to make an acronym out of that) I hope these are sturdier than they appear, and I hate to have to handle them with kid gloves -- o.k. I don't own any kid-gloves (it's a metaphor!) -- but it's solid tech, and for 30 bucks I don't think one can do much better. IIRC, I think the Telex was in the $90 neighborhood some years ago.Lastly, I don't think that the Plantronics stereo headphone-component of these will replace my Grados or AKGs any time soon, but the sound quality is much better than expected, and it definitely is useful for speech playback. If you want to listen to Strauss, Mahler, Tchaik, or Branford, well, refer to the above models....

There are three things that make for a great headset: obviously, the most important is the sound quality, followed by comfort and then solid construction.Several times a year, this headset goes on sale at a price under $20, with shipping included. When it does, I suggest you buy several. You won't be disappointed.This headset is good enough to be used for speech recognition software and this review is being written on my iMac, with MacSpeech Dictate...a perfect combination.

This is my second Plantronics USB adapter plus headset with microphone.The first had one earpiece and nice adjustable boom.Unfortunately the quality of sound in the earpiece was poor and the microphone boom picked up electrical noise (60Hz hum)Plantronics replaced the headset, the new one was immune to electrical noise, but the boom was no longer adjustable.This USB adapter and headset has much better audio. The boom is nicely adjustable.The catch is that the headphone band is very lightweight, the foam earpads are slippery so the unit slides forward with any head movement. As it does so, the microphone moves out of position.Quite honestly, I expect better from a company with the reputation of Plantronics.

This was a good headset. It did break not to long after we bought it but it may just have been the one we got.I would most likely buy this again.

The USB is a complete fail, I have it about a month and the USB doesn't sit as tight from me disconnecting and reconnecting it a few times. So now I apply pressure down on the USB so it shows that it is connected on my computer. I have 6 USB ports and its the same for all of them just to make sure it wasn't the port itself. Waste of Money the sound quality was great and everything and the mic just fine just the USB part is junk. If you connect it without the USB the mic sounds like crap, I would not recommend this to anybody and I only buy this Brand of Headsets.

Because of the sound quality for both the headphones and the mic, plus the convenient volume control, I will buy a new pair if I cannot repair my last pair. The first incident involved the entire left earpiece falling off and hanging by their wires. I found no way to put it back together so I had to superglue it back on instead. I had no further problems for a year when the mic quit working. I opened it up and found one of the two mic wires pulled free from the solder joint. What happens is if you rotate the mic boom completely around the mic wires get wrapped around the post that connects the boom to the headset, rotate too far and they will break. This is a design flaw in that you should be prevented from being able to do this. However that break didnt happen until 1.5 years of owning it and I had easily put 500+ hours of usage into them. Also if using the USB connection instead of the analog one, you will need to use a "boost mic gain" option in the software if available. Im an avid gamer and when using USB had to boost the gain, didnt have to when using analog...boosting on analog caused too much distortion. Although when using USB I was told the sound was clearer, jsut harder to hear when it wasnt boosted....not all software has a gain boosting feature.BTW i used these right away out of box either USB or analog without any problems on Windows XP 64. I have not tried them on any other version but hear they work with Vista 32 and 64.

This is possibly the best inexpensive behind-the-ears headset currently on the market. Don't expect a super high-end set; instead expect normal wear and tear, and be realistic about build quality, materials, and life span. If you are, you won't be disappointed.

I bought this headphone specifically to use with Dragon Naturally Speaking 10, which works like a charm with it.I did have one problem, which was my own fault. On the headset, there's a little silver microphone on the on/off switch. So that's where I set it, and spent a day and a half of total frustration because Dragon could not understand me. My grandson finally took a look and pointed out that the little silver microphone has a tiny line through it, about the size of a hair. I'd had it turned off the entire time, even though Dragon said the sound quality was good. The "on" side of the switch is blank, which seems backwards to me. Anyway, now it works great and I love it.
