I was in the market for a new headset, previously had a wireless headset that I wanted to get rid of; batteries are expensive. I originally had my mind set on the Logitech G35, but decided to try my luck with this Plantronic headset and I have to say I do not regret it at all.The sound is absolutely amazing and clear. It is especially clear when you're trying to hear those steps in Counter-Strike: Source. I was able to clearly hear where the steps were coming from which is a huge advantage. The surround sound is a great feature to have in headphones and having the ability to turn it off (no idea why you would do that) and on the fly is very slick via buttons on the side of the headphone. The highs are just perfect without hurting your ears and the bass is decent and tolerable. I've had headphones in the past where the bass would cause my headphone to rattle so I actually prefer not to be 'bumping' the bass in my ears. The software that comes with the GameCom 780 is very basic feature wise. It has option to turn on the Dolby Sound (surround sound), which also toggles when you push the button on your headphone, and two modes to choose from music and game mode. It was set to default in music mode, but I did change it to game mode and didn't really notice a difference. That sums up the software, at least its not full of bloat. A equalizer on the software would of been nice, but not a big deal.I was particularlly interested in the design when I first saw the GameCom 780 pictures and I have to say they look even better in person. The headset feels extremely durable, I was testing the stress by bending and forcing the headset, within reason of course, and did not see any 'pressure' creeks or gives at all. The cord also seems to have a slight reinforcement shielding to help accidential wiring issues such as rolling over it in your chair. The headsets are light as well, I was not able to test it for hours on end as my eyes start to hurt after a hour or two, but while I was using them the weight did not bother me at all. I could picture someone using this hours on end without being bothered by it. The cushion and padding is smooth and fits snug around my ears. It looks like it could accomodate large ears should anyone be concerned about that.Decided to test out the microphone and it is very good at filtering outside noise. Noise-canceling at its best. I did find it odd that the microphone was somewhat far away from the mouth, but still managed to pick up my voice very clearly without picking up my breathing. The rotation on the microphone is somewhat limited. If you wanted to wear the headphones behind the neck for whatever reason you would not be able to pull the microphone down to your face. It is either up against the headphones or down to about a 75 degree angle from the up position. My two biggest gripe is these headphones are oddly enough hard to find and that the GameCom 780 has not gotten as much publicity as it deserves, but other than that, I couldn't be happier.

These are one of the best gaming head sets I've had over the decades... Bought these on Amazon about six months ago or so. I won't go on about the positives as others have plenty to say already. I'll just add some data points and a few comments on fit. The cups IMO could be a tad deeper and a tad longer so as to not impact the lobes on thoseof us with longish ears. If you have big flappy ears that tend to stick way out I suspect theseunits will bother you a lot as the pads, while comfy, are not deep enough except for 'nominal ' ears. My ears are barely nominal for a adult male I suspect. Cups measured on my unit are 3/4 of a inch deep as measured from the inside surface to the edge of the cushion. The cups length measure just at 2 and 1/8 of a inch as well as the width. HOWEVER this dimension is fairly flexible. I would estimate2 and 1/2 inch deflection of the soft pad is possible if one had to stuff a huge ear in these. If you are in doubt, just be sure to keep packaging and return if they bother you is all I can say.If one had overly long ears there is enough flexibility in the cups to accommodate and perhaps one would not be bothered by thesensation for hours of use that would depend on you. I've other head sets of this sort (over the ear) and they had deeper cups. Sadly though, nobody makes them anymore just now. SO, bottom line. I'd rate these a 5 but they IMO messed up by failing to make the cup a bit deeper and longer to ensure thosewith larger ears do not have ear contact with internal surfaces. In my case I manage to get by with hours of wearing with no issues. The mic works well though needs a wind sock, which you willhave to find and fit on your own. Thats about all I can add to what has been said. Other than to say these work fine on my Windows 7 64 bit system. SImple plug and play and in my case effortless swapping to external speakers when I unplug the headsets from the USB port. Oh, if there was another nit, and it is minor, it is sometimes easy to turn the mic off and not notice. There is a switch on rear leftcup that I tend to bump off at times. Pretty minor nit that. THumbs up. Best value on the market that I'm aware of as I write this.

One challenge I have when buying headsets is trying to find cups that actually fit around my ears, rather than sit on top of my ears. I don't have as much time as I used to for gaming, but when I do carve out a block it tends to be a 5-6 hour session. On-the-ear headsets just aren't comfortable for me to wear for long periods of time, no matter how tightly or loosely they clamp around my head. The cups on this headset fully enclose my ears, putting the (relatively light) pressure against my jaw and head rather than right on top of my ears. They're also well cushioned and have a fabric lining inside the ear cup itself, just right to prevent sore ears. If a headset doesn't fit completely around my ears I won't even both looking for anything else that might be good about it. Granted, this usually means all my headsets make me look like a movie set extra for a documentary on flight deck officers, but I don't wear them out of the house so any potential for fashion disaster is usually averted. One particular feature I like is the extra-cushiony fabric covered padding that around the top. I shave my head, so having hard plastic or worse, vinyl padding, at the top is a deal breaker for me.Sound quality is good for a mid-level headset, but the volume control is a bit awkward. It's a plastic spin wheel (kind of like an old style electric blanket), which is fine except it's black plastic with no painted or highlighted markings. This means in low light you can't really see the wheel and have to feel for it. Not a serious ding against the product, just evidence of cost savings, I guess. It just seems odd to have a product with color splashed around at various points (red transparent plastic moldings, red molded cord terminations, white letters on the USB adapter, etc.) yet the one area I'm likely to need to see and adjust, the volume control, is plain black. As for durability, I've had them about 8 months now and they're still working, so thumbs up overall!

Admissions:1. I am an audiophile working in pro audio for over a decade2. I am a laptop gamer on the go, looking for the best of the best.Past headsets reviewed for mobile gaming and general computer use:Sony GA-DR500 (great headset, only downside was external processing unit)Sharkoon X-Tatic Digial (ok headset, way too many cables, but very sturdy design)Reason for searching for new headset:I loved my Sony GA-DR500, they were light, the Dolby box had a great ability to provide 7.1 processing effects for gaming and audio, but it was an external box. Because I travel for work, I was trying my best to find a headset that was all inclusive, no external components, cables or power supplies.I truly did like the Sony headset, however - the wife started to play Starcraft II with me and thus needed a second mobile gaming laptop and headset, and I set out on a new mission - a better headset.True Honesty Dispelled:I did due diligence online, but truth be told, the truth is a hard subject on audio with so many subjective lobbyists out there. I will admit I have my own preferences but in the spirit of objectivity I relinquish those opinions in this review.I did the research, and decided to give the Sharkoon X-Tatic Digial a try and payed ~$150 at the time to get it shipped and play with it. You can read my review on Amazon of this headset, it met much less than my expectations. Great build quality, but sound quality was piss-poor on anything but fiber optic sources, and the headset was very heavy. But the mic quality was beyond reproach (gamers on the other end would comment on my $200 microphone).I must stress, that I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE SHARKOON X-TATIC DIGITAL HEADSET UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!I had actually ordered the Plantronics Gamecon 780 prior to ordering the Sharkoon X-Tatic digital, but the 780 was on backorder and I forgot to cancel the order (...go drunk ordering online!).Needless to say, when i received the notification that my Plantronics Gamecon 780 shipped (unknown that I ordered this headset, beyond the fact that I had probably placed this order while drinking...) I let it fly...I received this headset a few days later, and the Sharkoon headset is in the trash (figuratively... I will try to sell this on craigslist, but I have little faith that I will get my money's worth). This headset is fantastic. Simply putting this headset on and you feel like you are in the middle of the theater/game/life-like-reality you wish to imagine. This headset combines the sturdy build of the Sharkoon while maintaining the sound excellence of the Sony GA-DR500 Dolby box, and requiring only a USB connection at the headset level, and being as light as any headset.Kudos to Plantronics for stepping up.Being a user of countless headsets I recommend this product to all users, gamers, salesmen and general computer users - do not miss out on this fantastic product.

I use this far more for speech recognition than I do for anything else; and plus the fact that it has 7.1 surround sound; being it adjustable makes it workable with the Realtek Sound System - so when my grandchild can't sleep (growth spurts); parents worn out, gets to listen to the music, play with Leap Frog or watch the XBOX / ZUNE movies in middle of night. Then there's this old flight game I have that the grandchildren knows Pilots wears these headsets gives them the feeling that they are in the cockpit of the airplane. Since my youngest grandchild loves sitting on my lap while I fly but wears the headset, gives the feeling of what its like. I know this game too well, its old. I find it amusing when they hear something that is coming from "behind" and they are looking away from the HDMI LED TV or Monitor in which I just got my face whacked by the headset! LOL! They're very young so it's very surreal to them, normal for them to turn and look where the sound is coming from, especially when someone is firing from behind you! While it keeps them quiet; Honest (!); to let them fly - just be thankful you have genuine trained pilots that are transporting you to your destination and not my grandchildren. It is really difficult for me to contain my laughter with them on the video game. I would love to upload the video of them in flight just to make you laugh, giggle and smile - due to minor laws here, they won't permit such videos. (The laws are still currently being fine tuned ... in my State, until then, everyone is constrained until it is finalized. I do apologize, but this had been in the works for quite some time but since the Sandy Hooke tragedy, they sped it up; what is imposed now is temporary until it is made final.)

I was really hesitant to buy these, since ive had bad experiences with over the ear headphones for a long time. I wear glasses, and anything besides earbuds tend to press the arms of my glasses into my temples, and causes a pretty nasty headache after only an hour or so.I was delighted to find that despite these headphones being a bit of a head-vice, all of the force was at the bottom edge of the headphones, and up at the top where my glasses sat, they barely touched. The sound is incredible for headphones. Going from simple stereo headphones to these, really blew me away, and even though it kills to lows/mids a little with the 5.1/7.1 on, the sensation of such wide surround makes up for it. and being able to maximize the directional audio in my games, is fantastic. Now for the con. I am so frustrated that these were not designed to be omnidirectional. By this i mean that the microphone and buttons are set up such that they are only functional on the left side of the head, and the cord crosses my body as a result(which i loathe). I feel like it would have been incredibly simple to just put the buttons in spots that were just as easily accessible from either side, and allowed the mic to rotate between 180 and 270 degrees. The problem with this, is that as a right handed operator, if i need to adjust my headset while gaming(change the volume or adjust the mic) i have to take my left hand off the keyboard(which means i stop moving.) to do so. Whereas i could keep moving if i could put the mic and controls on the right side, where they are accessible to my mouse hand.Short review. If you're left handed, these get 5 stars.

I have had these for a few weeks and am ready to let the world know that these are fantastic surround-sound headphones with a crystal-clear mic! I know the mic is crystal clear because a friend has the exact same set and I hear him on TeamSpeak, and another friend was telling me only yesterday that both that friend and I are far clearer than anyone else in TS. :) And the sound is *perfect*! I watch movies and hear the surround better than on my entertainment system! I play Star Wars: the Old Republic, and I can hear if a fight starts behind me, or to either side! The foam padding is quite comfortable for wearing hours and hours on end, though for the first couple days the arms of my eyeglasses were being pushed into the sides of my head and were a little painful; after three days of wearing them, the pain went away. :)The swivel feature on the phones is nice, allowing you to lay them down flat, or even just take them off and temporarily hang 'em around your neck comfortably! (Turn the pads to face your shoulders/chest area.) The mic is also solid in its swivel, from straight up (goes no farther than that) to jaw level (no farther than that). The mic also has really nice flexibility, so I'm pretty sure I won't accidentally snap it off at some (clumsy) point. Also, the mic is far enough away from your mouth that you can eat most anything without having to move the mic first. :)The controls are very, very easy to access and are quite responsive, to boot. The large blue button is where you take them from stereo (i.e., for music) to surround (i.e., for everything else) and back, though the software is where you choose if you want "music mode" or "movie/game mode" for that surround. The volume button has a little play to it, but works perfectly, giving you high beeps when you turn it up, and low boops when you turn it down. The button I use the most, though? The Mute button (for when I'm eating, for instance!). Flip down for Mute, up for Talk. Easy as can be and very simple to access at the back of the left phone.Only two negative points to them: first, they trap a lot of heat inside those pads, which is a *little* uncomfortable, but it's not too bad. I wear them for hours and hours most days. (About 6 hours a day, on average.) Second, you are stuck with the mic on the left side of your face. No way to swap it over to the right. Not a big deal by any stretch of the imagination, but I thought it an odd limitation.Regardless, I would recommend these for anyone looking for a great-sounding, well built, comfortable, affordable, surround-sound headphone/mic set!

For anyone looking for a set of gaming headphones, these offer a number of strong points, particularly if you're looking for a strong surround-sound feel. Firstly, they're quite comfortable, with ample space for the ears in the cups. The headphone sits rather snugly, which may feel uncomfortable until you get the head strap adjusted just right. The cups are lined with a soft velvety material which is comfortable, but can collect dust pretty easy. Its not hard to clean that, but if you're picky about it its worth noting. The sound itself is really phenomenal, with games like Planetside 2 or Borderlands 2 being the first I tried out, coming through very clearly. I heard alot of additional detail in both games that I hadn't noticed before, lots of little ambient notes in Planetside for instance that simply did not come through over my speakers (Insects humming behind rocks, footfalls on the roof, coyotes in the distance, thud of distant artillery). VOIP broadcasts come through cleanly as well, though with the surround-sound feature enabled they do sound a bit unnatural, sounding like someone talking in a concert hall. It took a little getting used to that at first, but the richness the surround-sound mode gives to game sound makes up for it. The microphone is solid as well, I've gotten numerous comments that I sound much clearer and easier to understand when I'm talking.WINDOWS 8 USERS TAKE NOTE: The disk does -not- ship with Windows 8 drivers. The company website doesn't offer Windows 8 drivers either. This is not a terrible problem though! To make the software work, just run the Windows 7 installer with compatibility mode set to Win7, and it will run just fine.

PROS:1. They look cool.2. They are comfortable.3. They are affordable.4. 5.1 surround is super awesome. It sounds like a masterpiece.CONS:1. When I first got them, I had a hard time getting them to work properly. Sound was distorted, and somehow, it sped up all my music. It took me reinstalling the drivers three times for it to stop doing that.2. 7.1 isn't that great. While 5.1 gave some pretty clear directional sound, 7.1 was less so. It may be because my ears just can't process 7.1, or because the added speaker simulation just makes the surround a bit more subtle and "true to life" or something, but I couldn't find a pleasing experience out of it's 7.1 option.3. Snow. In the windows test surround sound test, the headset failed on the left speaker. A tinge of snow every time it rang out. In gameplay and music, it was less noticeable, but still gave out undesirable result in certain gameplay situations (high explosions, very bassy sound effects).I ordered a replacement, which just came in today. I tried it out eagerly, but the same left speaker snow persisted, and overall snow in usage actually INCREASED. It was at first annoying yet mostly tolerable, but now it is unacceptable. Not only that, but the box I received was damaged (not the Amazon box, but the Headset's box), leading me to believe I may have received a refurb, which as well, is entirely unacceptable. I'm deciding if I should try with one more replacement, or just get a refund and put it towards a more high end pair from a different brand. This headset is well received, so I'm bummed out to be in the apparent minority of folks with a bad experience with it.

this is a first impression review. the headphone arrived 5 days earlier than expected (which was a pleasant surprise after getting home from work :) )i had a turtle beach X12 and the mic broke due to horrible handling by my part. so i had to get a new replacement.Gamecom 780 is a nice UPGRADE from the X12. the sound quality is 10x better with the surround 7.1* and i can hear small details like footsteps in CS:GO. also tested it on Metro 2033, Bad Company 2 and RUSE. testing BF3 tonight.in movies, it works just as well. transformer and act of valor all sounds great!music, there is a setting for music, but some may want to turn the Dolby off because it felt echo-y at first. but i got used to it and it sounds fantastic!a push of a button can turn off and on the surrounds feature, which is great if you just want to hear normal stereo. (ie: youtube videos)the headphone itself felt plasticy, but durability has to come later after many uses.the fit and comfort was weird at first due to the enclosed fit style of the X12, but once you get used to it, it is great. you can still hear outside noise (TV, people screaming etc), but if you turn the volume loud enough and (no it is not deafening by any definition) you will be SURROUNDED ;)mic quality is loud and clear.overall, it is great and its a happy purchase from the x12.more updates to come as i use it more.edit 1: testing my mic right now and it doesnt seem to cancel ANY background noise. it's picking up every noise in my living room and that's not what the product promises....kinda disappointed in this department. im bringing it down to 4 stars because of this reason.Edit 2: Feb 24, 2013. this piece of plastic just snapped! i was pulling it apart to put it on my head and it just...SNAPPED!! i taped it together and it still works, but this plastic feels super cheap. changed my rating to 2/5. it was even a far stretch, i was just pulling the two cups apart to have enough space to put it over my head...disappointing...edit 3: Feb 27, 2013. last update was the right side of the headband snapped. today, just by (again) putting it on my head, the LEFT side also snapped. cheap plastic. taped them up and it still works.

Before deciding on this model of headphones, I had debated between the Creative Fatality's, Sennheiser 350's, and Audio Technica ATH-AD700's. I almost went with the AD700's but wanted a headset with an integrated mic, I wouldn't feel bad about loosing or throwing into a bag for travel, sounded decent, and didn't cost an arm and a leg (ruling out the Sennheiser's, as well). It was a difficult debate, to be sure. As you can guess, in the end, I went with the Gamecom's. Having now owned them for about a week, I now wish to offer my review.OVERALL QUALITYOverall quality of this headset is very good. As others have noted, the majority of the headset consists of a sturdy, durable plastic that feels as though it will last for years. The ear pads are covered in a black velour that, while very soft and comfortable, will attract dust and hair very easily. Also, I don't know if any of the pads are replaceable. If not, they should be.The mic folding up into the headset is a very nice touch. However, it does rub up against the headphone itself so that it never stays tucked in all the way. Further, when rotating the mic down to mouth level, it tends to scrape along the raised edge of the headphone. This will eventually begin to show signs of wear. The cable is a very nice, thick gauge. The volume dial feels very solid and is constructed of the same plastic as the headset itself. It is a few inches further from the headset than I prefer, but that is easily solved with the on-cable clip. The y-split at the end of the cable is set with a rubber cover and the cables after the split are pretty short, thus limiting its functionality. This could be a problem for some. Finally, the extension pieces (the part that the headphones slides on, at the top) are much thinner and flimsier than the plastic used elsewhere on the headset. I could see this easily breaking in the not too distant future, unfortunately.COMFORTAs headsets go, these are among the most comfortable I've used. As I said, the plush velour pads on the ears and band are very soft. They will keep your ears quite warm, unfortunately. I had read reviews stating that the headset gave people headaches from the pressure. On the contrary, I found them to be about average in the amount of pressure they exert, and I have a larger than average head size. Also, I absolutely love how the ear cups themselves pivot allowing the headset to better adjust to the contours of your noggin.SOUND QUALITYOn its own, this headset is OK when it comes to sound quality, not great but not terrible. Highs are decent (a tad trimmed, actually), mids are decent, and lows are generally heard but not felt. I would describe the sound as airy and subdued as if there's unrealized potential. (I feel it fair to mention that this headset should be burned/broken in for at least three hours but preferably longer. The sound signature changes dramatically within that time.) The soundstage (how well you can tell where individual sounds are coming from), on the other hand, is absolutely phenomenal. For the twenty-five dollars you pay, I can't think of another headset with this good of a soundstage. This makes them an excellent recommendation for gaming, obviously. For general listening (movies and music), this headset is generally good. I would say it's above average for it's class/price range. When amped and equalized, however, this headset comes to life. Hooking the Gamecom's up through my cmoybb headphone amp (with bass boost on, of course) and tweaking the equalizer in iTunes dramatically changes how these headphones act. Highs are amazing, mids are great, and lows are heard AND felt (seriously, this headset goes surprisingly low). For the price-point, the sound quality, when amped, is amazing. The only other point I would like to mention here before concluding is that the headphones, despite being labeled as "closed-ear," will NOT block out external noise. Keep this in mind when considering these headphones.CONCLUSIONI would HIGHLY recommend this headset to any budget conscious gamer looking for a very reasonably priced headset that offers good sound quality, comfort, and durability. On the same token, I would very strongly suggest that you purchase a good headphone amp to accompany this headset, in order to realize their full potential. It will make a night and day difference.Pros:Sturdy ConstructionGreat sound quality, when ampedOverall very comfortableDoes not block out all external noise (good for use at the office)Cons:Need an amp to realize full potentialDesign issues with micCan be quite warm after long periodsDoes not block out all external noise (bad for noisy environments)

i wear these all the time and they sound and feel great. the microphone is first rate and delivers crystal clear sound for voice chat. when i first switched people even remarked at the difference. the stereo sound is good, and the usb interface is super easy to set up with both my mac and my windows pc. the build quality is pretty good too, although they are mostly made of cheap plastic. i think i'd prefer it if they were a little more dense and had heavier feel overall (i realize this is in contradiction to the fact that lightweight makes them wearable for longer, but i kick things around a lot and would like to have more of a balance with durability)the surround sound is completely fake. you might notice that in the official description plantronics calls it a 7.1 surround sound "experience". that's because there are only two speakers in the headphones. so how can you get 7 speakers from 2? well, you can't really, the surround part is done in software and basically adds a digital effect. this is completely worthless to me, if i wanted my games to sound like i was playing them in a cathedral there are probably free open source alternatives for that.that said i don't regret my purchase and decided to keep them, but if i was looking now i would probably consider the GameCom 380, which looks to be a similar quality without the stupid virtual surround sound software.

Plantronics Gamecon 780From informal discussions with coworkers and other electronics enthusiasts, Plantronics isn't as well known as some of the other brands (Jabra, Monster, etc...) but I've had excellent results with Plantronics M50 Bluetooth headset for my smartphone. So I used the Gamecon 780 with great expectations, and wasn't too disappointed. For one, the 780 is well constructed. The headband has a thick but soft foam cushion wrapped in a soft but velvety material that grips your head, but not too tightly. However, the band itself will apply quite a bit of pressure on the earcups against your head. Luckily, the ear cups are cushioned almost as well using the same materials. The noise/sound isolation isn't as good as a Steelseries Wireless headset that I had, probably due to the lack of a tight seal around the ears. The boom mic can be adjusted out of your field of view, and is made of a material similar to a Gumby toy where it is a resin coated wire that can be twisted and adjusted. The controls aren't very intuitive. I have to push a button to turn on the surround mode (it will glow blue), and the volume and mic mute are on the rear of the left ear cup. The volume is a spring loaded rocker switch that you slide continuously in either direction to increase or decrease the volume. The USB cord is all red, which gives it a funky retro electrical engineer motif. It resembled the left-over positive electrical test leads from the 1970s that I had to use in college, due to a tight school budget. The audio quality is great, if not very good. The highs and midrange are reprdocued well, at least to my ears. There's not a lot of bass though, which isn't exactly a bad thing for me. Even in regular stereo mode, music sounds great. For games, you have to make sure 7.1 is selected in Windows for the playback device after you install the driver from Plantronics. And even then, the game has to support Dolby 7.1 for it to work well. The positional sound wasn't too clear when playing most games. I had the same issue with my Turtle Beach X41 7.1 Dolby headset for the Xbox 360. The only game that I played that had great positional audio was Medal of Honor, and I could almost feel that an enemy was just over a ridge. I didn't get the same feeling with most of the PC games I tried with the Gamecon 780, although it isn't particularly bad.Overall: 4/5 stars, is very tight on my head and puts a lot of pressure on the earcups initially, but seems to get better as it is broken in. Dolby 7.1 positional audio doesn't seem to work quite as well, but it could be a problem with the game's full support of Dolby 7.1. Great build quality, good cable length, and the boom mic is very adjustable.

Great Headset but UNDERSTAND what you are purchasing!Rated 5 starsI have been using flight simulators for years in both my professional and personal life. This review is based solely on personal use and NOT professional use.First off, Amazon has not failed me yet in delivering me products on time...EVERY time!On the headset....Great headset for the money. I have used MANY headsets including converting a few sets of old David Clark headsets with Oregon Aero kits to my online sim flying games. I am a HUGE fan of the "ole standard" of the mic/headset jacks as I do NOT want to take away from USB ports or USB headset code running in the background.A few things that might be a bit unclear from the pics. The earpieces are BIG....not bulging out from each ear but are wide and tall if that makes sense. They are very comfortable but if one is in a hot room, they can become a tad bit uncomfortable from the added heat of having your ears covered. The comfort factor aside from heat is great! Adjustable for LONG heads and SHORT ones. The feel around the ears is great with the fabric and to be honest they are now a headset I use when just listening to music/videos when the speakers need to be turned off.Mic is solid. My only two "complaints" would be that it takes a bit to get used to. I am used to boom mics that come up to my lips. This one does not and wasn't designed that way. However, it functions perfectly in online gaming and Skype applications. The mic tucks into the headset but MUST be shortened (aka...pushed in all the way towards the earpiece) to successfully tuck it into it's holder in the top portion. Not an issue but something I had to get used to when storing it. Took about two times to figure it out.Sound quality is great....I love good sound...this provides it. Remember this is NOT an audiophile headset but sounds a WHOLE lot better than earbuds or other headsets I have used.Controls on the volume device located on the cord. Hmmmm... personal preference. This has a circular depressed knob that works fine. For those that are used to a vertical recessed knob (like on an old AM radio) this will take a few seconds to get used to but once you have, it is very functional.Overall, I love this headset. Price point was spot on!I would highly recommend this to any gamer/flight sim enthusiast that is looking for a non USB headset/mic combo.

I have run into a problem others have also with this headset: it is WAAAAAYYYYY TOOO LOUDUsing a iMac 27 w Mountain Lion 10.8.3Even with system sound volume at 1 (out of 16) its often too loud (iTunes, games, skype) and hurts the ears. By the way the other sound levels dont really go up in volume much (it is basically mute or full on)One way to cope a bit is to not use the keyboard sound up/down keys at all, open the System preferences instead and dial the volume down in the sound control panel (because that slider has finer control than the 16 steps available via the sound keys)Still, pretty unsatisfactory. Perhaps a manufacturing defect, but it is occurring for others, on windows as well as on mac. Here are two discussions from the Plantronics website, both with involvement of but no solution from Plantronics staff:Gamecom 780 Too Loud[...]Plantronics GameCom 780 Too Loud on Windows 7 64bits[...]On the Mac there is no Plantronics driver btw, just generic USB headset - of course you dont get surround sound, just stereo. On the PC you can run it without a driver in which case you just get generic stereo functionality or use the driver. But that may have its own issuesDriver for Plantronics GameCon 780 not working[...]Anyways, I am disappointed. My Logitech G930 fits better around the ears and works just fine on Mac and PC. Perhaps an alternative to consider.

I bought this on sale (just under $25), in great part because of the price, but also because of the fantastic reviews. I was very impressed by the comfort of the headset, as well as the price. I'm very picky about sound, all my music is in lossless format because I can tell the difference between that and a regular MP3 files. Anyway, I'm very impressed with the sound quality, although I'm sure you could get better for a much higher price. I work long hours, and these are very comfortable on my head. They fit well around the ears without squeezing or squishing. The microphone also tucks away so that they can appear to be regular headphones (rather than a headset) if you don't need to talk when using them.As a side note, I didn't want to keep hauling them between home and work (I'm a grad student so I share an office), so I decided to buy another set. The price had jumped, and I was informed there was a newer version (Gamecom 380). That model was supposedly newer, sleeker looking, and just as good or better than this model. The headstrap is sleeker on the newer model, but the microphone sticks out like a sore thumb on the 380, which is very undesirable for my environment. The design of the 367 is also better in terms of comfort, at least for my head. As I noted, I love the fit of this model, but the 380 has smaller earphones. It squeezes my ears on both the top and bottom, and discomfort turns to pain if you're using these more than half an hour to an hour. Granted, not everyone has the same size head or ears as I do, but I'm pretty average in terms of size, so I imagine it may be problematic for others too.The 367 also has MUCH better sound quality than the 380. The 380 sounds tinny by comparison, and the sound is uneven (some ranges/types of sound come through much louder than others). I observed this in various types of music as well as SWTOR (SWTOR uses audio cues during boss fights, as well as regular combat, and it's much more difficult to consistently hear and discern.Ultimately, If you're looking at both this model and the 380, get this model. I feel it's much higher quality than the 380.

I purchased this headset on Dec. 6 in the afternoon and it was supposed to come Dec. 10. Well I came back from school and there's the headset.......on Dec 7th. Delivered by UPS, efficiently packed with airbags. I took out the headset and installed the drivers and plugged it in. Instantly, I started up Grand Theft Auto because that game had to have Surround support. This reimagined the game and gave it more life and tone. I heard things I couldn't hear before. In fact, I now hear the location of cars and helicopters around me, so no more scanning or looking around to find an approaching hostile heli.I played some Dubstep before it was burnt in (yeah I know not good music, just to test bass) and it was perfect. I didn't expect as much bass as it gave. For those complaining about meager bass, they must have 12" subs all over inside their car. It was enough to start a small rattle, which felt perfect to me.The mic is AMAZING! Honestly, that word isn't enough to describe it. Although it may not have the best noise cancelling, it was clear and very lifelike. And when you have a mute switch right behind, why complain? The part that I like is that there's no in-line volume control, which usually pulls the headset to one side because of the imbalance. All controls are on the left earcup, including the mic, mic mute, volume-rocker, and a Dolby Surround switch. This switch controls switching between surround and stereo, because sometimes dialogue in Surround mode sounds "Godly"- as if they're high up in a echo-ey cave or room. The only thing that could be better is if the mic could be pushed in a little towards the mouth, but that's not something for me to pick over because the mic still picks me up fine. Definitely a 5/5! I'M LOVING IT!

So when I got these headphones, I had been using earbuds and the microphone built into my laptop. As you might imagine, the sound quality was poor and the people I spoke to on Skype complained about the microphone. Then I upgraded to THESE things, and the audio was amazing, and the folks on Skype said I was coming through crystal clear. So everything was hunky dory, right? Nope. One day I put these things on and SNAP. The connection between the left earcup and the headband--right on that curved area above the cylinder-looking thingy--suddenly snapped. Well, it didn't come off, but a rather large fracture appeared there and it coming off completely can't have been far behind. I looked on the other side of the headphones and saw stress lines on the plastic, so that side was well on its way to snapping off as well. Wow. Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe it.Okay. Headphone manufacturers. Listen to me. No matter how much you might want to, you can't skimp on build quality, okay? You can use plastic, that's not the problem. But it has to be durable plastic, and not too thin. It can't put too much stress on the wrong locations. And you especially can't say to yourselves, "Well, if it breaks the customer will just buy another." NO. That's not what the customer will do. Your customer will return your product to the store AND you will lose his trust. Being cheap costs you MORE money, not less!

I really wasn't expecting anything great. Especially for the price I paid (~40 at Fry's).Sound:With the Dolby Surround sound software on, wow, everything, and I mean everything sounds so much different. I normally use a pair of Turtle Beach PX3's which sound decent. But with these headphones, commentary sounds so much more fuller and crisper. When gaming, it almost sounds scary. You can hear every little detail. The surround sound aspect makes such a difference. Even when listening to music, anything from rock to hip hop to drum and bass, everything I've thrown at it sounds phenomenal. But... when the surround sound is on, and poorly produced audio is on, it really sounds bad. It almost makes the good sounds sound great, and the bad sounds sound terrible.Microphone:I've been told that it sounds crisper and clearer than my Turtle Beach headset. I don't like how the microphone doesn't twist or anything, just goes up and down.Comfort:I have a pretty big head. I can see how it may seem uncomfortable for some, but when I wear them they feel fine.Quality:Really nicely structured. Doesn't feel like its going to break in half when I drop it. Unlike the turtle beach's.Software:I wish there would have been more customization. There are literally 3 options. Surround sound (on or off), a music preset, and a movie preset. Maybe it's better that way, but I feel somethings could be tweaked. All in all, great great buy. Couldn't have been happier. I definitely made the right choice and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a 7.1 wired pc headset. Absolutely phenomenal.

Bought one of these bad boys last summer. Sounds awesome, plenty comfortable (for a couple hours at a time), great mic. I don't consider myself an audiophile but seriously, coming from <$50 earbuds, these headphones are incredible. I didn't know my computer could create such marvelous sounds.BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE: My headphones snapped apart along one of the joints in the top plasticy part. That sucks, but hey, it's been like eight months and they' taken plenty of falls. The awesome part: all I had to do to get a replacement was mail it into Plantronics, no painstaking proof process required. So great support is definitely a plus.THAT BEING SAID: USB audio is basically an enormous hassle. Using this with Debian Linux required the headphones to be installed as a sound card and plugged in from boot -- not hot-swappable at all. Under Windows things work better, but still, if you plug/unplug these headphones during a game or movie or pretty much while any application is running, it will need to be restarted or at best muted/unmuted before sound will work. I imagine this will be better in the future, but I'm not holding my breath. To recap:5 stars for awesome sound and generally good product-1 star because USB audio is a nightmare.+1 star because support is great!Grand total: 5 stars yay!

They arrived at my door on the predicted date so I was happy.I never once had a late package from amazon nor have I ever had a bad product or package from amazon. besides for my black widow keyboard but ,,, that is a whole story all on its own ..But onto the headset, I love the headset so far I have had it for about 2 weeks now. I had absolutly no problems with intalling the headsets software that comes with it. The sound is pretty good .. but one thing that kind of bugs me is that well to me I believe the sound comes in stronger on one side and not the other.. so i am hoping that its nothing to do with the headset itself ..I am sure I can configure it in the sound options. So I am not too worried about it (overall sound is really loud and very clearthe comfort to me isn't the best its not tight on my head it fits perfectly and doesnt fall off like my old one ... just I have big ears and tends to hurt after a long period of time 2-3 hours. People complain about the headset heating up there ears and being uncomfortable to me i think they are just finding excuses ... it coves over your ears people! there is no air flow of course it is going to get least a little warm goshthe mic is awesome everyone can hear me much clearer than my 5$ headset I was using before which i also got from amazon which last me a good 4 months! although the mic isn't the star point of the headset it is still very good.over all of the minor grips I have with the headset it is well worth the buy :)P.S. and YES the headset does adjust the metal bars slide up and down ;) super easy to adjust.

==Sounds decent, everything else is pretty terrible.==+Drivers have much better range than my previous 367's.+Virtual surround sound works.-Microphone is completely automatic gain and you have absolutely no control over actual volume control. I have been in a lot of VOIP calls where people have told me multiple times in a long call to tap the microphone to turn down the ever-growing static buzz that just gets louder and louder and LOUDER.-The Dolby options are either: gaming/movie mode or music mode. Doesn't describe what that even means, or even if there is any real difference.-Despite claiming the cords and joints are "superhero", you can hear the noise of ANYTHING touching the cord in the left earpod and it wiggles back and forth. Significantly worse than my 367's.-The volume controls are not hardware, they're software. The volume itself is overtly loud, so I have to use 15% volume.-The volume control "dial" rattles. RATTLES - whenever you move your head, or anything touches the left earpod. It's that bad.-Virtual surround sound being on turns on a really bright blue LED.-Noise isolation is no better than my 367's. They were bad at that.-Cord is short and stiff.-Microphone stalk is unnecessary long and should be less than half the current size.-Earpods rotating to lay flat are actually a nuisance rather than useful because you can easily pick them up to put them on and accidentally rotate them.-------------------------------------------------------Really, I'm quite disappointed going from my 25 dollar 367's to these 60 dollar 780's. The construction quality is visibly and audibly worse, showing no regards for their design. The *complete* lack of manual control since going over to USB is extremely frustrating. I have significant doubts about buying a Plantronics headset again.

I originally purchased Corsair's Vengeance 1500 headset and after returning it I went with this. Here is a break down of how I feel.Aesthetics and Build Quality:2/5 in this department, the corsair was significantly better - The 780 does not as high quality, or look it. While I appreciate the volume control being built into the headset itself instead of inline with the cord like the 1500. The 780's volume button and mute switch feel 'cheap' in comparison. The 1500's cloth wrapped cord also felt nicer than the 780's regular plastic one.Comfort:4/5These are much more comfortable than the 1500's in my opinion. The ear compartments are "deeper" and a bit larger. The padding on the top also seems slightly more supportiveSoftware:1/5This is where this product is REALLY lacking, the lack of an equalizer in Plantronics included drivers disk is really disappointing. Also don't ever loose the CD because I looked all over the internet and could not find the software available to download anywhere on their website.Sound:4.5/5This is where these things really shined. While the 780 only has 40mm drivers compaired to the 1500's 50mm drivers. However, 780 sounds ALOT better, the lows, the highs, they all sound GREAT even when turned up high enough to make your ears bleed! I just wish the included software had an equalizer so that extra adjustments could be made. All in all, if you're debating between the Corsair Vengeance 1500 and this... Go with this. You will have no regrets.

So I bought this headset for around $20 when it was on sale. Holy crap am I lucky to be able to do that, because they are absolutely amazing!Sound:On their own, this headset is pretty decent sounding. You can get the lows pretty nice and deep, the highs are clear and the mids are crisp and nice. But when amped and equalized:...My god these things are just insane. The bass vibrates your face and the highs are amazing. Everything is. Seriously.Any gamer out there who wants some great audio experience should consider these. Great microphone and durable everything. Now the toughness part:Mine have broken twice. But I bought them TWO YEARS AGO.YEAH. For $20. They have lasted TWO years. If you are scared of a little super-glue and electrical tape, these might last a year for you, but what I put these things through, whoo,im surprised they still work. Yet, these things work like they were NEW.I have thrown these down laundry shafts and out of cars and everything. They will take whateveryou throw at them with a grain of salt. They are easy to repair and I LOVE THE COMFORT!Seriously! Most comfortable headset I have ever put on so far, and I have had tons. The foam at the top is extremely comfortable, they are extremely adjustable and will STAY on your head.I absolutely LOVE the thick arm design. The mic portion is really nice too and extremely durable.Overall, these beasts have lasted me forever, have been through hell twice and came back, are extremely comfortable and can pump bass and give greatimmersion and spacial awareness like a boss! Must buy if you can find them on ebay cheap!

These have a moderately high design quality and high build quality, I do not personally see these being harmed at all for at least a year. The sound is great! I have a few musician and audiophile friends and all of them (except that one) think they are really high quality for the price. When you use VOIP programs like vent/mumble/ts it actually sounds like someone is talking to you in the same room. Actually it sounds like you and the other person are in a room that is only as big/wide as you and the person is impossibly atomically intermingled into the same existing area as you talking directly into your brains.Quick rundown, left ear has 1 button, 1 slider button, 1 tilt button. Front button turns dolby digital on, back slider button mutes microphone (no more accidental muting!) and the back bottom tilt button controls volume with a nifty pleasant sound. The microphone is fixed and is not very flexible but it will bend so it wont break during regular wear and tear. However it does seem the microphone could be taken off with a flathead screwdriver but im not sure, you cannot turn the microphone the other way to have it on your right ear. The two earpieces swivel inwards 90 degrees and softlock. The only con so far is that clicking on menus and buttons has become increasingly eerie at night, they sound like they are coming from the room around you. An the dolby button lights up blue, not bright, but I could see it bothering some weirdos out there.

Do you get what you paid for? Do the costs justify the value? Let's find out.First off, they tell you that the headphones have the ability to transform standard audio into 7.1 surround sound and I can safely say that the headphones do a great job doing that. Just about any video or song you listen to anywhere on the Internet or on your computer is significantly enhanced. It's a rarity to get a quality that is barely enhanced (sometimes it would just sound louder). They also tell you that you get a deep base and I can say that even with dolby 7.1 turned off, you get a pretty sensational base sound. The ear-pods have no problem spinning around so they do perform that part correctly as well.I haven't yet tried out the mic so I can't comment on that, but I will say that the volume and sound controls on the ear-pods are definitely not easy to reach (at least not at first). As does everything, it takes long periods of use to finally be able to naturally control the volume, but it could have been more conveniently placed in my opinion.About the cords, they are indeed long and strong enough, especially after rolling my chair over them some small amount of times only to have them still looking pretty new.Usb connection works great, however the cushions on the ear-pods are comfortable, but the structure itself can be irritating for people with ears that extend outward.Ultimately, this product does what it's intended to do for the most part and all for a stellar price of $57.24.I have no choice, but to give it a 5

My previous headphones was a skullcandy proletariat ($80.00 in 2007) I used them a lot, even in outdoors... when after 3 years of use, the plastic finally broke (I could fix them anyway). So my comparison is that this GamCom 780 has an excellent sound, very sharp bass (explosions, instrumental bass, and so on...) when dolby is activated. I like also the easy accessible volume, mic (on/off) and dolby (on/off) buttons, but the ergonomics is not good, they are made of kind of cheap plastic that could break easily. Also I feel them very tight... I thought it was OK because my head is a kind of big but then my girlfriend tried them and she felt them tight as well (and she doesn't have a big head).I haven't tried talking by microphone yet, so I'll edit this review after that.So finally, I don't pretend to carry them a lot (home to work, or bus, train, etc... this a kind of obvious because they are usb headphones) and hopefully they could endure a couple of years just staying in my desktop PC. They are made for gaming, so should be stay in one place. But they should be more comfortable...In ressume:1st star for the good deliver2nd star for the overall sound quality3rd star for the amazing dolby surround soundno 4th star for the lack of comfortabilityno 5th star for the cheap plasticedit: I should add another star for the price + the usb cable is long enough.edit2: Maybe with the using time I get this headphones more confortable, so 1 more star

If you need something that feels sturdy and sounds great, this headset should do you fine. The surround sound doesn't sound quite as good as some of these other reviews say it does, but it does sound amazing. The difference is hard to explain, this is my first 'good' surround sound headset though, and I simply can't go back to lesser ones now.The headset feels like it's gonna last a long time, made primarily from light metal and strong plastic. It's also incredibly comfortable even after long periods of wear.It fits well on my rather large head without stretching more then it's meant to and the buttons that control volume are easy to reach (If you cup your left hand around the earpiece, your thumb should rest between the mic-mute and volume switches, with the bottom of your pinky on the surround toggle). There's also a nice sound for each stage of volume, so you know what it's set at.The mic is a little louder then most other headsets I've had, but it's clear and picks up your voice a lot better then background noises. It's far down enough that you can barely see it out the corner of your eye and it doesn't fall down when you don't want it to.My main complaint would probably be that the cord is too short, I'd estimate it's length at just over a meter, which is ENOUGH sure, but I have to take the headset off before getting up or I tug at the cord a little. With that being my biggest complaint, this gets a full recommendation from me. It comes with a 2 year warranty and even if it somehow disintegrates after the warranty is up, I'll buy it again.I've bought more expensive headsets (Turtle Beaches, Thermaltakes, etc) but they feel cheap by comparison, I'd go as far as to call this a $150 headset for people who don't want to blow $150 on a headset.

There are a lot of good reviews already posted so I'm mainly here to say that this headset works with PS3. I found a few reviews saying after buying the syba stereo audio adapter associated with the product post that the headset can only output audio for the voice chat which is true. In order to make the headset work you need to purchase this, 6in. Stereo Splitter (3.5mm) Audio Adapter $2.99 Qty: 2 Sold by: BlueMallPayment Method: Items: $5.98 Shipping & Handling: $5.96which is a male RCA adapter (those red and white plugs used to input output audio) with a female 3.5mm headphone jack. I'm using a HDMI cable so to get the audio to output to an RCA you will need to plug in the PS3 analog cable that outputs to 3 RCAs: red, white, and yellow. The audio adapter will let you plug the headset right into this cable and will let you hear in game audio along side game chat. Because I have audio outputing to HDMI and the analog cable, I had to set the audio settings to multi to out put to both cables at once. The syba adapter is straight forward and most people posted they were able to get it to work, so I'm not explainig it.I specificly bought this set up to play Black Ops. This is my first headset and I didn't want to dump a bunch of money into something that may not work for me. I must say you get more than you pay for absolutly. As far as the mic is concerned I believe people can hear me because I don't have to repeat what I say. The audio is loud and vivid. When it is all quiet and a sniper rifle goes off it can be startling. While sitting still I do get the notion that people are walking from left to right but can not determine if the steps are infront or back of my current position. The lack of 3D is a price point compromise having only 1 speaker per ear that I do realize. I have noticed that sitting in one spot and slowly scaning my view left to right changes the angle my character recieves the audio giving me a simulated 3D effect to locate players. While moving quickly and spining the character's line of sight the audio is changing distance and angle of the sound at the same time which can cause some choppiness of the rapidly changing audio all around me. The audio from the headset is at the will of what is processing it, so I can not leave out the fact that it does what it's told by the game and the PS3, so if the game or the unit does not put that detail into the audio content then it would hinder my experience with the audio coming thru the speakers. In short, I can not be sure if it's "crap in crap out" because I have no other headset for comparison. The Game Com 367 was a great investment being able to do all that it does at that price point. The headset is really big and makes you look like airport runway personnel. The cable is more than long enough however the wire splits into a y where the cabling goes thin, so I reccomend anchoring it down from being yanked out. I don't know how to clean the ear pads on the headset so I try to wipe grease around my ears to prevent build up before putting them on. I have also kept the blister pack the headset came in because it is great for storage. Any one deciding to buy one of these will not be dissaponted.

Pros:1. Super comfortable!2. Seem to be durable (the most likely part to break will be the speaker bar).3. The mic works great with my voice recognition program! This is a key reason I bought this headset, along with the good reviews it gets.4. Overall, has a nice sound (see con list for exception)5. When not using the mic, you can swivel it up and out of the way.6. The cord is long!Cons1. With a handful of albums, I get a rattly noise in the headset. These tend to be more bass rich albums. This does not happen with these albums if I listen to them with earbuds or with speakers. It is possible that I am turning the music up higher with this headset as they are not IN my ear.2. While you can swivel the mic up and down, there is no way to bring it close to your mouth. This is a design flaw, definitely. It is typically sensitive enough that this doesn't present a problem but when using sensitive voice recognition software this is a needed adjustment. However, it is still the best option I have found.3. You actually do have to use the accompanying disk to install the software. Windows 7 will recognize the mic but NOT the headset without going through the installation procedure. The installation procedure also requires a reboot.

Behind the neck headsets are one of my favorite types. I highly enjoy the comfort, and it almost seems like there not even there after hours of gameplay. It has a sound control feature on the cord which can clip to your shirt, and you can instantly plug it into your computer, for instant use.Tho i make mark this as my current favorite headset, it comes with 1 MAJOR flaw.....its durablity. Most gamers who have gone through several headsets understand that when buying a headset it usually comes down to a loss of comfort for durablity, or the otherway around, im almost sure that is entirerely true with this headset.I have now owned 4 pairs of this headset up untill now. If you were to use this headset on an everyday use, you could expect several parts to break down.--The FIrst part might break down about 2-3 months in. The ear peices will becomes deteched from the headset(this is a part that ive had happened on all 3), they will of course still work as they dangle from the cord( i used superglue to put them back, which seems to work fine.). Even tho i was able to make a temporary fix for that problem, at one point shortly before or after that(sometimes both), you may find a rattleing noise inside the earpiece, as if a piece of plastic had gotten detatched from something.--The Second part might be the USB port. I have mine pluged into the front of my computer and a common problem i have, and sometimes forget, is to watch out for it when i get up to leave my computer. Simply knocking this in a foul direction and it will easily break apart. Having several animals and children around the house who dont know any better it tends to happen often. I have however been able to continue to use most of them as long as they havnt broken all the way....many just crack open but are still perfectly fine....cept for the fact i have to worry about it everytime someone comes into the room.--The Third and Final part to breakwill be the coord. This here is a headset killer. The cord of this headset is extremely delicate, simply folding a part of it break the cord. You probably ask yourself, "Why would i do that", well when i mention it, i do so in a way, that simply running over it or accidently stepping on it is very bad. This has only happened once to me and i was clearly able to avoid this particularly after. However another Coord problem that happens with this headset, is right around where the sound adjuster hangs. 1 problem with it first is that with constant self Muting, you will eventually become permenetly muted and this headset might be gardage after that. From what i know, the mute device doesnt work in the way that it simply tells your computers sound to go on mute, Instead it temporarly stop electrical currents in the cord from travelling into the computer. Turned off and on over a corse of hundreds of times, it will cut the cord, and be nothing more then headpones. Another and final part of the coord problem is the coord dangling out of the sound adjuster, eventually the coord becomes pulled enough on simple the weight of the headset and occasionally pulkling the clip off your shirt over a course of several months, the coord slowly reveals the wires, and when it does, the entire hheadset will cease to function.many people who have reveiwed this on other sites mention the microphone breaking. Though i have been there a couple sets now i have never had the microphone break at any point. I however did not tamper with the microphone more then i needed to. In fact, i must have adjusted it the first time i used it untill it was perfect, and maybe some slight adjustments everyone once in awhile after that. But i have never had a problem with the microphone , or the microphone peice. I find that it is very adjustable and many people can hear my clearing in chat problems.Though i doubt many people will get to read this portion of my review, i do want to say that as my favorite headset, and my 4th one, ive comes down to try to keep it from breaking before it does so. Superglue is very helpful. I easily Superglues all parts that normally break before thhey actually broke, i believe this to place several months on the headsets lifeline. i hope my reveiw helped many of you, i will continue to buy this product untill something similiar with more durablity becomes available.

Short story: these are great. The sound is great, the mic works great, the controls are super easy to find and useful. What isn't great is the documentation provided by Plantronics. Inside the box, you won't get much more than a CD and an instruction sheet that says you need to install the CD and plug in the headset. Problem is, you might do this and find your sound still comes out of your speakers. Or that you are only getting 5.1 surround instead of 7.1. The Plantronics website isn't much more helpful, but plenty of other websites are. A quick web search will take care of this in under 2 minutes, and you'll be rocking a sweet headset in no time.So once you get everything set up, you'll notice these have MUCH better sound quality than you might be expecting in sub-$75 headphones. (I was surprised, at least) And while the mic might not up to the task of professional voiceovers or podcasts, it's more than enough for voice chatting (or giving a voiceover that's at least better than the one you would get with that mic built into your webcam). They're extremely comfortable, and have a nice solid feel. Also, if you're traveling to LAN parities or something, they fold flat for storage. I don't take them anywhere, but this feature does allow me to store these is the relatively small space between my desk and wall. I'm very impressed; if I hadn't bought them myself, I'd probably guess they cost at least twice as much. This really is a great option if you're looking for a headset.

I just got these, so I can't testify about their durability. I bought them at BB, so I got a warranty so I wouldn't have to worry too much about it. The sound in games is great with crisp directional sound and bass with impact. Music sounds good with adequate bass as well. I had a Corsair Vengeance 2000 before these and sound quality is comparable in terms of frequency response, which is amazing because the Gamecons have smaller drivers. The Gamecon surround seems way better and somehow it sounds like the the sound is not coming from headphones but from beyond, like speakers in the room. I didn't get that feeling with the Corsair. The Corsairs are heavier with better padding and material, but the Gamecons are lighter and don't weigh down on the top of your head. The software doesn't even have an equalizer that I could find. It was also difficult to install in Win8, but I managed to get it done by downloading Release 2: of the "Plantronics GameCom 780 7.1 Surround Sound Software (PC Only)" software and installing it in win 7 compatibility mode. As mentioned in another review make sure to set up the playback device as 7.1. The cups verge on being too small and I am not a big person, so if you have large ears you might have problems. Controls on the headset are small and difficult to find, use and feel a bit cheap and the phones don't feel very substantial. These are relatively inexpensive so I suppose the tradeoffs are acceptable.

I don't have a sound card, so I mostly use USB headsets for games that require them like Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and I must say after going through a few (rather expensive) USB headsets using 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, this is by far my top pick for an affordable alternative.Granted the audio quality isn't 100% crystal clear compared to Logitech G35 headsets and it doesn't come with any fancy software that includes an equalizer or voice morphing tool, but It does a great job providing quality sound for your gaming pleasure and the microphone (according to friends over skype) picks up your voice nice and clear. These headsets also do a great job at hushing the world around you, but not so much so that you can't hear the person sitting next to you unless you have the volume at a relatively high level. These headsets can feel a bit heavy, but are easy to adjust and much more durable compared to Logitech’s over priced G35's which will probably last you maybe 6 months before it breaks on you from standard use. My only complaint is the fabric padding around the speakers. I prefer leather over fabric as after a while gunk can build up in the fabric from prolonged use. Other than that, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants decent quality surround sound headsets without having to burn a hole in their wallets.Note: This headset is for use with the PC only! This is not compatable with the Xbox 360 of PS3! I recommend you look at other products like Turtle Beach if you're looking for console compatible headsets!

**UPDATE**TIP: If this headset is too tight then stretch it out overnight on something wide enough (like several books). I used my bookshelf speakers which was wide enough to bring the ear pieces perpendicular to the ground. This made the headset less tight and much more comfortable.**UPDATE**--------------------------------After a year of owning a set of the razer carcharias I felt I needed a better headset. The razer's were nice and were very comfy but if my mic was on at the same time as someone elses they hear an echo of their own voice (regardless of what the volume is set to!)My brother was raving about the plantronics gamecom 780 but I didnt believe him. I'm very sceptical when it comes to hype of a product but I couldnt ignore his enthusiasm any longer and decided to head to bestbuy seeing as that's where he bought them from. (even though they claimed they didnt carry them in store)Let's get straight to the gravy. This headset has pros and cons just like any product will.pros:sound quality is amazing right out of the box! I'm an audiophile and consider gaming headsets to be the last place to find audio bliss. These proved me wrong!7.1 is simulated but in modern games such as battlefield 3 it works so well that I think you are at a MAJOR MAJOR disadvantage without surround sound.I'm shocked at how precise these headphones are at not just $80 but at any price range!also you would swear there are multiple drivers in these. The cord is as they say, nice and thick and it's nice to have the controls on the headset rather than in-line.cons:These are your typical "tight" headsets. If you find that many headphones are too tight on you then these most liekly will be a problem. This wasn't a problem for me but I will note that the ear cushions are slightly stiffer then other headphones and it should be noted thatthis makes them a little less comfortable then other headphones i've used (it may change after they break in)Things to keep in mind:these are very sensitive. The headphones don't need to be turned up a lot... heck I think I'm at 30% volume in windows and just as low in games! The microphone picks up voice and sounds VERY well, perhaps too well (can pick up people's convos near you but what mic wouldn't do this?)but just spend some time setting up the microphone and adjust it.Personally I really like these headphones. They make me feel like I've made an excellent choice. They arent the most comfortable headset but the sound they produce is just so impressive that my search is over.btw, these also work very well for music... they aren't just for games TRUST ME!

this is the first headset ive ever owned. i dont play online often but i used it to voice chat with my friend while playing diablo 3. i could always hear her clearly and she never had trouble hearing me through the mic. it doesnt have any special features but it doesnt need any. it has volume and mute controls on the headset, which i assume is pretty much standard. theres also a surround sound button but i never really noticed a difference with it on. they arent noise cancelling but they block out enough noise. they are also comfortable as hell. i have gamed with them on for over 3 hours and never felt too warm or like there was too much pressure on my head or anything. the cable does tangle pretty easily though and it could be longer. if i didnt have usb ports on the front of my pc, i dont think it would be long enough (my pc is on the floor though, if you dont have front usb ports but keep your pc on your desk, you should be fine). finally, the sound. oh my god the sound. i never realized how shitty my speakers were until i put these on. playing with mass effect 2 (yes i just got around it playing it) everything sounded so much more clear. i was literally hearing sound effects i didnt even know were in the game when i was just listening through my speakers. these have spoiled me, i cant go back to listening to sound through my speakers after hearing how much better everything sounds through the headphones.are there better headsets? probably. these are quality headphones but dont have any bells and whistles. if you need headphones that will make you coffee and do your taxes for you look elsewhere. but if all you care about is having comfortable headphones to wear while you chat with your friends in a game, look no further. these are great, especially for the price.

Just the like the other commenters here I will also try to convince you how of how well these headphones work. They feel more solidly built then even a couple of the $100 headphones I have lived with over the years. Even with my oversized skull i haven't felt to constricted by them. I am in a video conference almost nightly and the others have said how much better the microphone works then my last several sets of headphones.Although the wire doesn't look horribly solid I have been impressed by its strength. A couple of times I have found it rubbing against he sharp edge of the side of my PC case when the side wasn't together tight and it shows no signs of wear and tear. I will be curious to see how well they hold up in the long run.The surround sound functionality works far better then I expected. In fact I have found that I don't turn it off anymore. You can get some unnatural sounding dead areas from it and it can cause a bit of hissing but overall its such an improvement over the normal setting for the headphones that it worth it.Also I am using Win 8 with mine and didn't have the issues the others did. So the drivers must have gotten an update before I got mine.

My original headset I used was a Logitech G35. I ended up returning the G35 for a few reasons:1. Too small for my head. My head is MASSIVE...so big it broke one of the plastic bindings when I tried to put the headset on.2. Expensive3. Build quality felt poor. The plastic bindings on the sideare very weakI then ordered the GameCom 780 from Amazon because I saw it at Best Buy (79.99) while I was returning the G35, and I could not be happier. I have used the headset for a few months, and I still love it. The sound quality is amazing, the build is durable, it's not tight on my head (nor is it loose on my lady's head which is much smaller), and it is easy to use/setup.Pros vs. G351. Cheaper2. In my opinion, much better quality3. More comfortable4. You can hear what is going on around you as well as in the game (that way when the lady yells at you, you can choose to pretend to not hear her, or to respond)5. Lay flat featureCons vs. G351. The mic does not mute when you put it up. On the G35, it will mute when you put the mic in the upright position2. The mic does not have a light to indicate whether it is on or off. Sometimes I forget if the switch is on when up or down3. Volume rocker vs volume wheel. Logitech's volume wheel is a much better design. The rocker switch isn't bad, but not as nice as the wheel4. No "G-Keys". I know it's a sily feature, but being able to assign macro/commands to your headset is a nice feature.Overall, this is an amazing headset, and I would recommend it to anyone.

I was looking for a headset to replace my old Turtle Beach headset. I was a little skeptical about USB headsets as I am an Analoge type of guy. But, I didn't have room for a sound card, so I decided to go with the Plantronics GameCom 780. It seemed to be a good price with excellent quality and I was right. The USB works great, you can easily turn the volume down and switch between 7.1 and stereo sound. Another thing I like about having a USB headset is that I don't need a 3.5mm splitter anymore to have my speakers as well. I can just switch the default devices on my computer without fiddling with cords in the back.Pros:-Volume controls easily accessible and uses system sound setting rather than separate headset control.-Easily switchable between the Virtual 7.1 and Stereo sound.-The Virtual 7.1 Works really well, and the soundcard in the headset is pretty good.-Earpads are big and soft.Cons:-It's a pretty heavy headset, so it can become uncomfortable after a few hours of wearing it.Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, and I feel it is a great headset for its price. I would have paid more for it.

As an avid gamer, and not too much of an audiophile (I own an AKG-240 that's the closest purchase am willing to go for music). So this by far is the best price/sound quality headset for music and gamer aficionados. My only issue for this is that to install the doubly software that came with the headset, you had to; right click --> properties --> compatibility --> check box "run this program in compatibility mode for" --> select windows 7 on the drop down menu --> hit OK or Apply --> then install. I looked up Palatronics support page and so far no software update (At the time I am writing this). Can't really ding points off since the fix was simple. Now I use both a USB headset and an analogue speaker system, there is a program called "SoundSwitch" its a free software and what It does is it allows a user to hotkey switching between headset usb to analogue speakers, so with a tap of a button I can switch between my 780 to my 5.1 speakers. All in all a 5 star rating since this headset brought life to my games since I can hear the difference, just use this puppy in battlefield 3 and you can tell the difference between shooting indoors and shooting outdoors. Something I never noticed with my 5.1 surround. So all that's left now is order some replacement pads on their website since I know Ill wear out this headset.

Pros:Price is in line for above average head phones. The headset build quality is great. The stereo sound is great.Cons:The fake 7.1 surround sound is terrible if you plan on using it as an advantage in games. They should not be able to classify these at surround sound as the fake dolby surround sound software does a terrible job of emulating surround sound. Half the time sounds are being played in the incorrect ear making you think the person is on that side of you, when in reality they are on the opposite side. I honestly just shut off the emulation software for the surround sound and just play with stereo sound. At least that way i can tell if somebody is to the left or right of me which is better then inaccurate sound mappings.I am not sure how to classify ear size. My ears are 2 and 3/4's of an inch from the top of my ear to the bottom lobe. The headset does become uncomfortable on the ears after about 45 minutes. The pods are small enough where my ears don't really fit inside them so they hurt after awhile. I am not sure if I have larger ears then the average person but this is a problem for me.In short this headset is great for short casual gaming where surround sound is not critical. If you play for longer periods of time, have ears that are similar in size to mine (see above), and value surround sound you might want to look elsewhere.

My previous set of cans, the Logitech G35's, broke after serving me well over 3 years. After establishing such a high standard for gaming sound quality with such a great headset, I was pretty skeptical about any headset that would stack up to my G35's. However, after using the 780's for about a month now, I can firmly say that I think I've found something that has.The 780's are a great addition to any gaming arsenal and stack up to a $120 headset for only half the price.PROS:-Crisp highs, and defined lows, this headset covers both extremes of the sound spectrum at a high level of quality'-Very clever and durable design, typically, most headsets break where the earcups connect to the headband, but this headset connects the two with 2 metal bars, very impressed with this design-Virtual 7.1 surround sound really gets the job done in games such as Battlefield 3, especially love using surround sound for bass-driven songs-Seamless and easy setup, literally plug-and-play, put in 1 more minute and you have surround sound setup with the included CD-Spectacular price to performance ratio, the best bang for the buck!CONS:-Velvet earpads never gave me problems before, but somehow, these can get a little itchy after a while-Microphone very good in clarity and noise-cancellation, but tends to be on the weaker end, teammaates noting a little hard to hear in firefightsBOTTOM LINE:Overall, you will not be disappointed by the 780's, even if you come on it after breaking your $100+ headset.

I thought I would spend a bit more than I normally do with a headset, so after hours of research, including reviews here at Amazon, I settled on the Plantronics GameCom 780. I was very pleased at first - excellent packaging, and solidly built. The audio was excellent, and the headphones were extremely comfortable, fitting around my ears (with glasses) with an excellent fit.But after a short time listening to music and playing some games, the honeymoon ended quickly.- There is no included software other than the driver itself, which sets itself to load automatically when Windows starts and is always running in your tray (something I have always hated).- It also means it is much harder to tweak your audio settings; you have to dig deep into the bowels of the Windows Sound applet in the Control Panel to find relevant settings. Event then, there is no equalizer at all.- After setting the dolby setting to 7.1, I was disappointed to find that each time I removed the headset's usb and reinserted it, the Dolby setting reverted back to 5.1. In viewing the Plantronics forums, I am not the only one to whom this has happened.- But the real deal-killer was the mic. Despite being a "noise-cancelling" microphone, it did nothing of the sort. It could pick up squeaks in my chair while I was talking, or even someone softly drumming their fingers on a desk across the room. Again, reading through Plantronics' forums, apparently I am not the only one to have similar issues. Some people were able to resolve them by setting some of the recorder enhancements (like 'noise suppression' and others), but they had no effect on my setup. And for someone who plays a lot of multiplayer games, the mic has to be perfect. After working on it for hours and hours, I gave up, which was a shame. I really wanted this to work, because there is so much about the headsets to like. But in the end, I couldn't get past those major issues; and therefore had to relunctatnly return it to Best Buy. I got it's younger brother, the 380, and those things rock. They don't use USB, but take advantage of my built-in onboard Realtek audio, which is excellent.

I bought these because I wanted a cheap gaming headset for my house so I could bring my studio quality Audiotechnica set to work for music during the work day. I will describe my findings on these below:1) Quality: The BUILD quality appears to be where I figured it would be for around $20. The plastic is pretty firm in most areas and the cord seems to be a bit better than most of the negative reviewers describe it. The microphone latches into the headband which can be pretty nice when you don't want a huge mic sticking out in front of your face and it appears to be fully functional when inside as well (if not, just turn your mic volume up).2) Comfort: They're comfortable everywhere except where it really counts, inside the ear cups. The speaker is encased in a hard plastic sheet with a circle cut out in the middle for the sound to escape. In my opinion (and keep in mind I have normal to small-sized ears) the plastic comes out too far and the pads around around the ears are not deep enough which causes your ears to come into contact with the plastic. It became rather uncomfortable within about 10 minutes of use. However, this is something I suppose you could get used to. I think this could be attributed to the fact that they fit rather tightly around my head as well which a lot of reviewers seem to mention.3) Sound: The sound quality is also where I figured it would be for a $20 headset. I am no audiophile but I know good sound quality where I hear it and these are merely O.K. In comparison, I just bought a $10 pair of Sony PiiQ earbuds for the gym and the sound is MUCH better on those and strangely come close to the quality of my $160 Audiotechnica set. The bass is certainly lacking and everything else is a bit bland. For the average person who is content with the sound quality of the earbuds their Ipod came with, this would be acceptable but for an avid gamer I should think not. Conclusion? While $20 is pretty cheap, I feel that for an extra $20 you should buy a slightly better headset if you actually care about enjoying the sound being produced by them. Also, the comfort level as stated above is something to be considered. Also keep in mind that I did not post about the durability because I have only had these for about 2 weeks now.4) Conclusion:

I bought this headset after reading the many positive reviews on amazon I've seen on it and video reviews on YouTube. I had previously been using an xbox 360 headset connected to my PC via the controller but after a couples of years that headset finally bit the dust last month so I was in the market for something new. Since I'm primarily a PC gamer I tend to use Skype for game communications and the previous headset did that just fine but this time I wanted something nicer. So I embarked on a journey viewing various headsets from different companies and getting feedback from friends who had PC gaming headsets, one of them owns a Razer headset which seemed ok but didn't feel too comfy, another had a Logitech which was pretty nice but the mic was on the cord so whenever he talks he always has to speak loudly. The 1st friend recommended that I get a Steelseries but that was a bit pricey and the headset looked small (didn't look like it cupped the ears) I also saw a video review of the SteelSeries which was positive so maybe people with small ears will like that more then this style. However this Plantronics headset really stuck out to me as it is the 2nd best reviewed headset on Amazon with the first being over 2x the cost. When I got it in the mail I opened it immediately to try it out and I love it! :) The simulated 7.1 surround sound is awesome for games and the music mode gives the headset a bassey umph with crisp clear tones! I would recommend this headset to people with medium sized ears that want to immerse themselves in their activities and don't want to spend a fortune on a headset. It also prevents you from hearing outside noises so be aware if you have people in the same room with you. :) Anywho happy hunting/listening!:)

Whether you're gaming on your PC or watching YouTube videos, this headset must be used! I have been using these for quite some time and they are flawless! First time using these babies wasn't very pleasant b/c it emitted 5.1 Surround Sound at 82% System Speaker Volume. I recommend after buying this headset is to install the driver first (CD Driver that's in the box) then after that plug the headset in your USB port. Lower the system volume to your liking and try them on! Also open the Speaker properties for your gaming headset and adjust it to 7.1 Surround.Pros:*Great Audio Quality! (Very Loud and Rich!)*Great Mic Quality and it's adjustable so that's a plus! (Loud and Crystal Clear!)*Pretty Durable (Not extremely durable but it's good enough)*The cable is very durable and strong (it seems to have anti-tangle powers/virtually tangle proof)*Great cup adjustments and good solid metal bar support!*Cups can be adjusted in many ways!*Very comfortable! (although if you wear Glasses then it's still comfortable but may be a little tight/not at your preferred comfort level)Cons:None (Although if you prefer having a wireless headset then that would be a con.)Recap: Buy this! You won't regret it! The audio is amazing! The Mic is super! The headset overall is great!NOTE: THIS IS ONLY FOR COMPUTERS! (THIS WAS DESIGNED FOR PC!) i believe if you use it on a MAC or other computer the surround sound feature may not be available.

My last headphones, JVC HA-RX700's, were godly in terms of sound quality and how comfortable they were, but alas they were not long for this world. After a brief funeral ceremony in the backyard I began my search for new headphones, and considering I've never had a decent pair of headphones last more than a couple of years(I have crappy ones from ten years ago that still somehow work fine) I decided to go more on the lower end of the headphone quality spectrum. After reading a good number of reviews I was a bit wary about the quality and design of these headphones, but the price was right and just from looking at the picture they look like they're designed fairly well. To my surprise not only do these headphones not hurt my head, but I can wear them for hours at a time no problem, unlike my JVC headphones which would eventually get to hot and make my ears hurt. In regards to how comfortable these headphones are they actually beat my old headphones. Sound is another story; the bass is severely lacking and the sound just isn't as crisp with a bit of static if the volume is up. My old headphones didn't have a microphone, instead I used a Samson condenser mic, which isn't a fair comparison to a pair of $30 headphones with a mic, obviously the condenser mic is better.I can say that compared to the quality of other headsets I've had that did have mics this one doesn't quite seem like the quality is as good, but it's not too bad really. The headphone cups are quite bulky giving a nice amount of room, meaning pressure is distributed nicely over my ears which is good for long use, but at the same time the material is lightweight so they don't fatigue your neck after long use. Which is one of my biggest worries/complains, the plastic feels extremely cheap and I don't know that this headset will last. The headset is very bulky, but the plastic seems to be hollow with very thin walls. The cord on the headset looks as though it will get nasty kinks or indentions in it if wrapped up, and the two 3.5mm connectors for the sound and mic are very thin at the end, to the point where I can see easily breaking them if I yanked them out to hard. On the cord about a foot down from the headset is a somewhat useful volume dial, a shirt clip I will never use, and a mic toggle I will never use.Overall I'm very happy with these headphones for the price, but only time will tell if I'll stay that way.

Pros:The sound quality is amazing! I can't think of a better way to describe them.Cons:The mic doesn't have a noise canceling built in so it will pick up any sound from your house even when you have it at the lowest setting, your friends might complain about all the background noise that is coming from your mic. Unless you keep the mic on mute. The mic only comes down on one side, if you look at the picture that's the exact side it comes down to. So for those of you that have the PCs on the right side of your desk you might wanna start moving your tower to the left before this headset arrives in the mail, unless you don't care about the cable being on your way.The ear cups... Why couldn't they just make them round? If you want your ears to fit you're gonna have to wear them slightly at an angle unless you have small ears.Little extra info:All the controls Volume, Bass Boost and Mute are on the same side as the mic around the ear cup.Overall:I can't tell you how much I love this headset, I can't give it 5 starts because of the mic and the shape of the ear cups but overall this is an amazing product that you are very likely to be satisfied by if you are planing on upgrading your old headset or just wanted a good headset for a cheap price, this is the way to go.
