It's difficult for me to objectively evaluate this product because I've had the Plantronics GameCom 777 for a very long time, and it has served me exceptionally, but my aging 777 unit has needed to be replaced for a few years now and while I've tried to replace it with other headsets that I would have expected to be better, they either broke, fit poorly, or had subpar sound quality compared to my standard. I've even got a set of full size sony dedicated headphones that by the number should be superior but the 777 somehow beats them out.In my eyes the 780 seeks to be a replacement to the now 5 year old 777 model and the short of it is, they failed. There are numerous comparisons to be made between the two units but I'll stick to the big ones.First thing I noticed upon donning my 780s was that the ear cups are smaller. I have to put the headset on tipped 45 degrees forward, get my ears inside the cups, and rotate it back, from there I am always aware of the unit touching my ears, and though I have not had the chance to test it I am certain that the 780 will become uncomfortable far sooner than it's patron model due to this. With the 777 the cups are large enough to fully clear my ears, though in the 780's defense, it's cups are deeper, so while the fabric touches the top and bottom of my ear, the 777 touches the face of my ears. This may seem like nit picking but arguably comfort is as important, if not slightly more important than audio quality. You're not going to wear an uncomfortable set even if it sounds like angels.Continuing with the physical design of the unit, I would like to compliment the body. While I do find both units attractive on their own merits, the 777 appears much more utilitarian. Both are soundly constructed and to my experience offer more than enough adjustment; with the 780 offering slightly more as it's cups are able to rotate and the 777's merely swivel.I prefer the design of the 777's tuck-away mic boom stylistically, but the 780's features full length bendability with a wire core to keep the shape and position you bend it to, and this is obviously superior. I'm not really qualified to compare the actual microphones of the two units but I did some basic testing in Audacity and the 780's did have less noise; I was able to determine that this is wholly due to a software feature included with the 780's driver, to automatically cull noise under a certain threshold; something that can quite easily be done in most decent voice chat software or in post editing. As far as controls, the 777 has an inline control dongle thing with a big satisfying spiny wheel and mute slide-switch; the 780 has a little tilt-switch and button; both of which operate software side so they will not impact the audio lines directly. To be honest the big spiny wheel on my 777 unit is the reason I have to replace it, something has gone off with the contacts and if it's not in just the right position, or gets bumped just wrong, the left side speaker goes out. Satisfying yes, but not durable. I do feel the 780 method is superior but the positioning is terrible. All the controls on the 780 are located on the lower rear corner of the left side cup, meaning any time I want to fiddle with them I have to move my hand nearly two and a half feet from the keyboard or my gamepad, adjust every joint between my shoulder and my knuckles, all to get to a tilt-switch that I have to hold in a direction to change the volume, at least the shape of the cup makes it very easy to autolocate the switch. An inline control is much superior in this regard, depending on your posture and where you put the darn thing, it could be as little as 8 inches away, and the analog style control allows you to rapidly change to the level you desire.I said in the last paragraph that all the controls are on the lower rear corner of the left side cup, this is wrong, there's one more button that I simply forgot about because it's worthless. the 7.1 surround sound button. Again starting with the 777, the older model was only 5.1 virtual surround sound, the functionality provided by a little square dongle that the unit plugged into via two 3.5mm jacks, meaning if you wanted you could plug it directly into your audio/recording source. During the time I've had my 777, I only occasionally flipped the switch on the Vsurround unit to the off position; the algorithm was masterfully assembled and everything sounded better, if a little quieter but that's just how virtual surround sound works.I have turned the 7.1 virtual surround sound feature of the 780 on a handful of times, and always turned it Off quickly. Virtual Surround Sound is an art, it's all about tricking the ear into thinking it's hearing sounds coming from not where they actually came from, in fact both the 777 and the 780 feature only 2 speaker drivers. The VSS provided by the 780 has the effect of sounding as if you are standing in a large stone tube, and the sound source is 50~ft ahead of you. This is not

Your mileage may vary, depending on your patience to find the right settings. Most complaints from this headset seem to come from uninitiated audiophiles and the definition of hi fidelity good sound, most people have never even heard "good" sound and achieving that sound is no easy task like it used to be in the old days when every piece of equipment was designed with top of the shelf hi fidelity components where you could just plug it in and rock out.All that being said the simple fact is you need to set this baby up to decompress all those years of compression to find the diamond in the rough. There is underlined quality in this headset and it is up to you the user to unlock it, unfortunately this can and will turn quite a few people off, but years of technology have created a headset that is comparable to a $1,000 headset but only if the user knows how to search for it.Straight out of the box when you plug this headset your mileage may vary depending on the devices you are plugging it into and how well versed those components are in "automatically" adjusting the tones, pitches and loudness for you, again, like in the old days, it isn't as easy as plug and play anymore unless you have thousands to spend, but if you adjust all the decompression software and fine tune the adjustments yourself you will be in audiophile heaven with this headset! Now consider yourself initiated and start enjoying your $1,000 ...er $50 pair of bliss.First and foremost don't expect it to sound good magically, I have seen complaints such as "it's too tinny" to "too loud" to "not loud enough", the secret here people is "quality sound" and that is what we are after and this headset is capable of it.I imagine most people will be using this on their computers to listen to music, watch movies and play games and those are the main people I am focusing on, GET INSIDE YOUR DEVICE MANAGERS! MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE CORRECT DEVICE IN YOU COMPUTER TO DECOMPRESS THE SOUND.Open playback devices in your audio tab that you have used for year on the taskbar, open your devices and right click each one and left click properties till you find the device where you must enable Dolby Digital/DTS/AC3 sound AND USE THAT DEVICE as the communication device and your headset as the default device. In that property tab you will find a plethora of options and souns to suit your personal needs, yes in this day and age to get good sound for cheap your gotta turn that stuff on! I HIGHLY recommend a few things in particular.1.) Right Click the "default device" headset (Gamecom 780) and choose properties, in this tab enable "bass boost" in the enhancements tab and the highest Hz allowed in the advanced tab (mine is 24 bit, 96000 Hz (Studio Quality).......these are the only two options I recommend on the headset device itself, also make that exclusive mode is also set to allow other applications to control the device and allow priority, this will let you cross thread settings from other devices, and on to the second device settings.....2.) Right Click the "default communication device" which will be your HD Device "considering you have an HD sound card, mine is a Realtek HDMI Output", and choose properties. When in properties go to the "custom" and for gods sake make sure that bad boy that says allow ac3/DD/DTS is Enable! restart the computer. You are almost in heaven, way to go! *two thumbs up*Just go back to properties in the HD Device and make sure "immediate mode" is enabled up top in the enhancements tab leave all other options unchecked here and the bottom setting to "none"Last thing is to click the advanced tab and set it to the same Hz as you set the headset...............WOW MANHAVE YOU EVER HEARD SOUND THAT GOOD?????????!!!!!!!maybe not....but Planetronics has created an affordable headset so that you may enjoy the sounds of hi-fidelity unlike you have possibly never known "for $50 at least ;)".all you have to do is make a little effort to get that wonderful sound out. and once you do believe me, you will have no complaints.two bug thumbs up to this headset, we honestly don't deserve it this good "at this price". :O

I'm just going to do pro's and cons.Cons first (That's what I look for first =/):1)Not Much Bass: If you are looking for a headset with bass that will blow you away this is not for you. When I listen to 'electronic' kind of genre, it sucks. When I listen to music with an actual bass guitar (like the remastered Pink Floyd album) in it. I can hear the bassist pluck or strum every string, its amazing and sounds decent, it's what I like.2) The Cord: The cord from the bottom of the headset to the USB plug in is VERY VERY thin and flimsy. I'm naturally clumsy and I trip and fall over everything. I feel if I set it on my desk and get up and trip on the wire, I will yank the cord right out of the headset. It worries me. I've had good luck so far.3) Not Much Noise Cancellation: I live in the middle of town. There are always trains coming by, dogs barking, country folk reving up their trucks.... Anyway, this headset seems to let through all of these noises. I tried to tighten up so they fit more snug, but it doesn't work. But you can always turn up the music so you can't hear all what's going on. So...NOW the Pros:1) Vocal and Treble: When I listen to my music with this headset, I can hear every string on a guitar being played. I can hear every lyric. Every symbol, and every double bass kick. It's simply amazing. It is so crystal clear, especially with good quality music.2) Great for Gaming: I like to play many mmorpgs, and solo most of the time. When I'm sneaking around tring to kill people, I can hear everyting with this surround sound on this headset. It has already saved me many times hearing someone sneak up behind me hearing their foot steps or something coming down from above. I can actually hear every sword cling together when they hit or every bullet from my guns now.3) The Mic: At first when I got it. I was thinking that it's going to be crap without a noise filtering thing on the end when I try to talk to my friends online. When I got the headset I was surprised at how far out the mic was from my mouth. When I pluged it in and got on my online chat, my friends were 100% amazed at how clear and crisp it sounded on my end. They actually said "Wow, is that how you really sound?". Good or BAD, they were impressed with the way it sounded. I'm very satisfied with the mic.4) Comfort and Design: This headset feels AMAZING. It has thick very soft padding that goes around and completely surrounds the ear. There is enough space inbetween the ear and the inside mesh/speakers so your ears don't feel like they are being squished and hurt after a phew hours. The ability to fold the ear pieces flat to lay on your chest is brilliant. Every time I get a phone call I can just fold them and lay them on my chest instead of reaching all the way across my bed to lay them on my table just to answer my phone. Very convienant. My favorite apart of the design is the padding where it sits on your head. My last headset had none, and everytime I would move around (even if I snugged them up) would slide back and forth, very annoying. This padding keeps it in place and makes it very comfortable. And.. this headset just looks cool.5) Volume Control: As it says in the product description, its located on the back of the left ear piece. It was strange at first to use since headsets I usually use have the control in the middle of the cord. I believe it to be more convienant since I dont have to reach across my keyboard anymore to turn my sound up and down.6) Very Easy to Use (for me): I still run XP system. The headset is just a simple plug and play. That was it. Everything set itself up and I didn't have to do anything. I'm not sure if it would mess up a complicated volume control like SoundBlaster for ex. or any of the new systems like Windows 8. I'm not very good with that stuff.Well I know it was boring to read. This is all I could think of on the spot. Hope it helped. =] Derp.

Back Story:I have had a lot of headphones over the years and the majority of them have been utter crap. I had one really good pair of headphones that were made by Sony back in the 1980s and I used them so much I broke both sides and had to tape them together to make them work. The sound was so good that I would have rather kept those beat up headphones than be forced to use the 2 or 3 pairs I bought after them. I was sad when I finally just had to throw them away and accept that it might be a while before I lucked out and got something that good. (It's taken a long time).Fast forward to the late 1990s and early 2000s. I have gone through another 2 or 3 headsets. I had a Sony that was decent, but not nearly as good as my original Sony back in the day. I then went through Logitech, Microsoft (totally AWFUL) sound and some other headset that I threw away because it was crap. I even checked out Bose and was really underwhelmed by the sound. My definition of good sound is crisp clear highs, warm mids and booming bases. Not excessive, but enough to feel like it could be live. Finally, I saw a $79 Plantronic "Gaming" set at Best Buy about 4 years ago and bought it. The sound was great, or at least a LOT better than I have had in a long time. But there were some quirks to the headset that annoyed me. The Microphone would flop down into position, so the only way to keep it up was with a rubber band. The voice input was sketchy and the device had problems working properly with Windows 7. Nevertheless it was a good enough headset that I decided I was going to give plantronics another shot with my new computer because I wanted a headset that addressed the annoying issues of my previous Plantronics.Plantronics GameCom 780:When I set up the GameCom 780 and fired up SWTOR to fly a few space battles (in 7.1 surround) my jaw nearly fell on the floor. The explosions are so lifelike you can almost feel them sitting in your chair. The sound is whole orders of magnitude better then my last Plantronics headset, and the directionality is dramatic. I actually had to relearn a few of my space battle moves because the audio cues were so noticably different that they were a distraction at first, but within about 10 minutes I really appreciated how much these headphones added a new dimension to my favorite game. Just to have something to compare to, I fired up Crysis 2, and I was equally impressed. The punch and clinks of a rapidly firing Scarab assault rifle were like music to my ears. The ambiance was a lot better and with the DX11 high resolution graphics, it's a whole new experience. To say the sound is pretty good is, in my opinion, a massive understatement. The sound is the best I have ever owned. These headphones actually have 3 modes: Straight Dolby, 5.1 and 7.1 surround. Each of them sound great, but for games I find myself sticking heavily with the 7.1. Just to test out the music capabilities of this headset, I threw on some songs from "The English Patient" that I had backed up for my mom. I put on a song that was just a single woman singing backed up by light orchestra and again I was blown away. The richness, clarity and warmth of these headphones, along with the silence being exactly where it needs to be... it's not even so much what you hear, it's how you hear it and even what you don't hear.Anyway, the sound alone would be reason enough to get these headphones, but there is more. The construction is very good for an $80 pair of headphones. I have yet to see how long the plastic cylinders that house the metal adjustment bars lasts, but it looks pretty strong. The headphones are a bit tight at first, but after some adjustments I found they fit quite well. The over the ear design is really what I want in a pair of headphones because it frees up the ear to head the sound properly. The adjustment bars are metal (something you don't see much of these days). The upper rim is heavy duty plastic, but there is a soft foam under cushion that gives a very nice set on the head. The earmuffs are made from material instead of a more durable kind of material, but they will probably still last years, and they are comfortable.Where these headphones really shine are the on ear controls. You can switch from surround sound to regular with a touch of a button. The audio control, rather than being just a knob is more like a control you would find in your car. Push one way, the sound goes down, push another the sound goes up. Moreover each time to press the button one direction or the other, the headphones actually play 2 different tones to let you know if you are going up or down in volume and when you have reached either end of the spectrum. You can also adjust the mic on/off switch with a button right above the volume wheel. These touches seem cosmetic at first, but you quickly begin to wonder how you ever lived without them. The mic is another marked improvement from previous incarnations of Plantronics head

I ordered this headset back in june like 7 months ago, and when i first received it i was blown away with the wonderful quality and price, then again my previous headset was a cheap little 40 dollar headset that i had replaced 3 timesSo i receive it and it sounds great (even though it uses run of the mill 40mm drivers) , its comfortable and its pretty cool looking to top it off(a warning is that the felt-y material on the cups and band attracts lint like nothing i have ever seen before, literally pulling in specks of dust out of the air(theyre not staticy or anything))the months pass and i realize how poorly constructed the product is and how bad the audio really was, not to mention the very poorly designed software they have in place for the virtual 7.1 surround sound, which just makes everything echo and sounds really quite awful, like its playing through a gramophone in an amphitheater, it especially effects peoples voicesI start getting really frustrated with the headset, but hey i should just live with it, because i decided to buy it, so i just suck it up and say ill just get a new headset with my next pc builda month or two ago i noticed something really strange, there was a crack running through the headband on the right side, i didnt think much of it and just continued on using it, then earlier this week i go to put it on and the headband just snaps, adding to the laundry list of horrible things to happen to me that day, though with my new build slowly creeping up it didnt seem too bad, but then again neither did pulling a lat and losing the ability to walk for a few days, for comparisons sake (i have literally never been as excited about anything else in my life, im more excited to build that pc than i am to get a car or graduate)the moral of the story is its really not worth it if you want to keep this headset for long, but to be honest its really quite excellent quality for the price range, but if you spend just a bit more on, say, a siberia v2, and you will have a much better experience overallps. it should be pretty evident that i hate punctuation and such :P----Edit----i forgot about the mic quality, basically nothing to call home about, has a nice rubbery neck to it, not very flexible mind you. Also i added another star because i forgot to mention that i really like the earcup controls, not the controls themselves, which are cheap, poorly implemented, and difficult to use, but the fact that they are on the earcup and not on some stupid inline controllerthe volume control is on a spring loaded wheel that springs back after you roll it up or down (it just makes the system volume creep up or down 1 percent at a time, and makes an annoying beeping sound), the mute is just a slide switch thing which doesnt even work most of the time, and the only nice and practical part is the button for the stupid virtual surround, thats clear/frosted with good placement and a nice tactile click and an led backlight (which is blue by the way, why would they use a blue led on a black and red headset?) and to clarify it is black not the nice slate color in the picture, look at the reflection on the headband for a better representation of colorone major thumbs up is the really nice stiff cable, which is a beautiful red and feels braided underneath the weird smooth powdery coating (the exact opposite of rubber, now that i think about it) one thing to note is that the cable still had some wrap memory even after seven months of daily use and attempts to straighten portions of italso the entire headset is made of a cheap feeling glossy plastic, which surprisingly doesnt attract too many fingerprints or tiny scratches, but if it gets a good ding or a weird burr on it like mine did, then its there to staythat should hopefully cover every aspect of the headset by now

The Plantronics GameCon 780 was received quickly and well-packaged. I had originally purchased it for gaming I do on on the PC some evenings to replace a headset not designed for such things. Though I did plenty of research and read many reviews, I finally settled this one. After a few weeks of using it, I'm ready to help others make a decision.PROS:Amazing -and I mean it- bass & soundAccessible physical controls on the headsetFlip up microphoneGood quality recordingExcellent noise drowningCONS:Controls are too easy to hit & changeUSB cord should be a little longerProlonged wear causes discomfort on the sides of the headOVERALL OPINION:The pros, especially that amazing sound, outweigh the cons. As of this writing the GameCon 780 from Plantronics has a 4.5 star review on Amazon. I feel that is entirely appropriate and I plan on buying my girl one of these. Now, for the detailed explanations if you're still interested in the headset:FIRST IMPRESSIONArrived on time and well packaged. First thing I noticed is that this headset has some heft to it, which could be a concern to some. Additionally, it's pretty solidly built. Like most, I appreciate a product that just feels durable and strong. The USB cord is a decent length. Like I do with most things, I plugged in the USB cord just to see how Windows 7 would react. It installed it in seconds without the need for the accompanying software, but I highly recommend installing it anyway.EAR CUPSThe ear cups are something most people are concerned with, especially when it comes to the type meant to drown out at any peripheral noise. These should easily fit all but the biggest of ears out there and do a great job of keeping the sound you want in and outside noise out.SOUNDYou wouldn't believe it unless you tried it. Honestly fantastic sound comes out of this. Strong bass, great surround sound and clearer sounds than I've heard out of almost any headset. I was suddenly hearing noises in games I wasn't previously aware of and my situational awareness during shooters went way up. During some movies or online streaming media I did have to disable to the surround sound as it gave a tinny & almost echoing effect (you disable surround sound by simply hitting a button on the headset), but generally Plantronics did a great job. Music was as clear as I think it can get on anything.MICROPHONEFor most uses, the microphone is great. The quality was a marked improvement from my previous headset's mic. Plus, it folds up & out of the way, is bendable and is the perfect length to position it easily. It does pick up a little ambient background noise, but no buzzing or static.SOFTWARE & CONTROLSThe physical controls are placed entirely on the left ear cup (where the microphone is) which is awesome...and not so much. The mute is hard to toggle which is good to avoid doing it accidentally - but bad if you'd like to do it quickly and without taking the headset off. The surround sound button lights up when on and isn't visible while wearing them, but is easy to accidentally hit. The volume control is the worst part; it's a half-wheel that you push up or down. You will hit this when moving the mic, picking up or setting down the headphones and it's very sensitive. The software was extremely simply to install, uses nearly no system resources, andprimarily exists to change gaming/movie to music modes.LONG-TERM WEARComfort is a big thing for gamers. You don't want to know you're even wearing a headset. For the audio portion, that is the case. However, these do have a little heft to them. Additionally, I have an average-sized head for a man, and prolonged use causes a slight squeezed feeling especially around the ears. You will not be able to do much about this as trying to flex the headset to relax the pressure could cause it to crack at the bases of the headband.AMENITIES:The "built-in spin joints" that let the "earpods lay flat for easy storage" are more or less useless for that purpose. The headset is big so good luck throwing that in your drawer without worry. That being said, the feature does make the headset adjust a little easier to your head shape.

I hope this review gets to as many people as people. First I'd like to begin by saying something very important.PLEASE READ IF BUYING THIS HEADSET:Make sure to go down to the 'Speaker' icon in the taskbar and right-click it. Click playback devices find the 'Speakers: Gamecom 780' entry, and right-click again. Then click 'Configure Speakers' and navigate down to 7.1 surround. Keep clicking Test and then the Next buttons until it says that 7.1 surround is set up. If you do not do this even if you enable Dolby Surround in the headset's software you'll only be getting 5.1 virtual surround, instead of 7.1. It does make a difference, and is considerably better. I wish it explained this more in the documentation. Also note if you switch to stereo mode it still is normal stereo, this changing in the options menu doesn't screw up the stereo option at all.Now on to the review:First off, this headset in pictures looks a bit silly with the orangish red cables and what-not, but let me tell you it actually is very pleasing to the eyes in person! It looks a lot cooler than my old Razer Carcharias, which was just a lame black everywhere. Not only does it look better than the Razer Carcharias, but it feels a lot better too. Weighing a little bit more than the Razer's it just simply feels like it is constructed out of better material. It's a lot sturdier. The only 'complaint' about the durability here is the earpads kind of spin tough at first, but personally I kind of like that because if they were super loose it would be spinning when you don't want it to.On to the sound...I read literally every single review here on Amazon before ordering, and let me tell you, they aren't kidding about the sound. It literally blew me away. Sure it's just a headset and there's only so good you can get with an earpad on each ear with a speaker in each, but this is SUCH AN UPGRADE from the Razer Carcharias which is actually more expensive. It's so good that I will definitely be buying a Plantronics headset when this one becomes obsolete. Even in stereo mode (button on earpad not lit blue), it still sounds amazing and better than the Razer's. It has crystal clear highs, clear and smooth mids, and a decent amount of bass. Sure the bass could be a little more, but it's a headset for goodness sakes and for bass in music I have my car with two 12" subs to hear the bass, in headphones I just want balanced audio and that's what this headset delivers. Don't think there isn't any bass though, you can definitely feel the bass and explosions and what-not, it's not non-existent by any means. In fact, it does have a lot more lower-end than my Razer's.The mic is also crystal clear. It's so clear that I actually had to turn down my outbound because it was making me sound booming. The only complaint I have with the mic is that it picks up background noise a bit too well, but it's not the end of the world, I'd rather have it do that and be a clear good sounding mic than be super cancelling and sound subpar. So this is another plus, at least for me.Overall for $60-70 this is an absolutely amazing headset. Especially for gaming! The software could have included a bit more, but what it does include is still perfectly fine. The sound is great, the comfort is great, and it doesn't look bad either! The only gripe I have is the cord is a bit short, but it's not the end of the world I'll just buy a USB extender. If you're contemplating buying a new headset, look no further. For more money you can get the Razer Carcharias which is only a stereo headset, and even the stereo functionality on the Gamecom 780 sounds better than the Razer, let alone the fabulous virtual 7.1 surround sound that is has. It doesn't sound fake like some cheap surround sound headsets, but obviously it's not true surround sound. Still, it sounds fantastic. If you don't want to spend $150-200+ for a headset, than look no further. This is perfect for music, gaming, and even movies. It brought a new life to my music, despite some of the reviews here! Seriously, just buy this headset. I love it, and have become a fan of Plantronics having never bought their products before. 5 stars for sure, as opposed to my old 4 star Razer's. What an upgrade.

Plantronics Gamecom 780 PC Gaming Headset with 7.1 Surround Sound (PC)Definitely worth more than the ?40 (Amazon UK) I paid for them! These headphones are very good quality, build wise. You don't get any of the cheap and tacky plastic that you find in other headphones. When wearing them, the ear cups sit very comfortably over my whole ear - I don't have massive ears, but my partner does). They are well cushioned by a velvety padded material, which causes no discomfort at all. The headband seems very well built and judging by the amount of spring and also the size of it, will fit over even the biggest of heads. I have yet to suffer from the head or ear aches that come with other headsets, so that is always a plus. The quality and length of the cable is very good, resulting in long term use, hopefully. At the end of the cable there is a basic USB connector that should fit into any USB port, no matter how many other USB devices you have plugged in around it. The microphone is your standard boom style microphone that can be moved up and down by 90 degrees. It is very flexible and can be manouvered so it sits at a comfortable distance from your mouth. On the left ear cup you will find a button that turns the Dolby on and off (this lights up blue when it is switched on), a button to mute your mic, and, the volume control. The sound quality that comes from game play, personally, I think is amazing - it could possibly be the best that I have heard coming from a PC headset. I am able to hear things in-game that went totally unheard by me before. The 7.1 surround sound is very good also, providing very high quality sounds and also making it very easy to hear when in-game sounds are coming from. The music sound quality is just as amazing as the game play sound quality. I wouldn't go as far to say that they are better than some of the mid-range audio headsets that are available, but they definitely give them a run for their money. For the price you pay for these, I would choose them every time over the headsets that can end up costing two to three times as much! From the feedback that I have received after using this headset on Skype, in TeamSpeak and Mumble, the built-in noise cancelling feature of the mic is very good. The sound quality that comes from the mic is also top notch - from what I have been told. Sound comes through clean, clear and crisp. When installing the supplied drivers for this headset, make sure you install them BEFORE you plug the headset in, followed by a reboot of your system. After doing this, feel rfee to plug in the USB connector and your system should pick up the headset and install the needed drivers. Once the install is complete, you will see a "Platronics Gamecom" icon down in the right hand corner of your system tray, where your clock is located. This will turn orange when you have the 7.1 turned on, which accompanies the blue light that you will find on the left ear cup. You can use this icon to turn the Dolby on and off, as well as being able to change the headset for when you are gaming, or when you are watching tv and/or listening to music.I would highly recommend this headset to anyone looking for a decent priced headset that does the job. For the money you pay, you will not be disappointed, as this is a very high quality headset that comes complete with better sound than some of the big named headsets on the market.

Well im not gonna be just saying good stuff about things here but also the most important key points for buying a headset. Firstly i bought this last week and decided to give it a go considering its price and reviews i've seen for it. Of course, the comments do persuade part of my decision to get it a little but nonetheless i decided on it based on my own gamble.Firstly i decided to get this because the first thing i wanted to get this headset was for its closed ear build. If you dont like a headphone to go over your head but instead around the back of your head, dont get this. this is a mighty bulky headphones. You'll get a massive feeling of something grasping your head when you first put it on. From the pictures seen online and how people use it, i must say i thought it was smaller in size but IT IS HUGE. A few things to note too is that it really grips your head well and the ear muffs are not really gonna cover the whole of your ears. Its not built that way. I suppose plantronics might wanna come up with a new model where the muffs arent squarish but rather rectangular to fit the whole ear in it. Try googling Logitech G35 Headset and you'll know what i mean. Even though i've tried many ways to fit my whole ear in it, i still end up with part of my ear lobes sticking out, and this is a problem after long hours of gaming as it will hurt once you start removing the headset. Im a heavy gamer who plays games for some long hours (6 hrs min and i wear glasses and this is an issue as the muff pads will squeeze the bottom part of my ears to the glasses frame. If you dont wear glasses like me, i suppose it wont hurt so much. Some reviews explains that its comfortable and soft. Yes it is soft, but its not really comfortable since the muffs kinda squeeze your excess earlobes a little so you might want to consider the "comfortable" portion when buying this. The headset frame is adjustable to give you that required adjustments to fit your head size, be it big or small. The material of the muffs are pretty good, and because its soft, it actually tries to fit your skull structure which is good. Now we come to the sound and mic. BASS is awesome. I'd say im impressed with the bass for this one considering its only a basic headset. You could hear very detailed bass echoes and crystal clear trebles with this one, and im really impressed. I play games which require voice chat and its so clear that you could tell if other players had bad mic on their headsets cause of their scratchy voices. Oh and did i mention its noise cancellation for the mic? Oh my Gawd! Its so good. Tested on Skype's Echo test and boy was i surprised. It sounded like i was in a recording studio! Its so clear and you dont have to speak loud to be heard. To get the best out of the sound and mic, AMP up the sound settings in your system and you'll hear a major difference. Its so good, its wicked. I have a Logitech G330 Gaming headset and i love the mic on that because of the crystal clear sound you get from it, and this i must say is 90% on par with that. Not that im saying its not good enough, but if you own both of them, you'll know what i mean. The mic tucks in neatly on the side and makes part of the headset frame when not in use so you could also treat this like a normal headphone when you go out without having people staring at you if you had a headset with a mic jutting out on one side of your muffs. It has a 3.5mm jack so it fits to most of your devices. If you plan to use it on your mic xbox controllers or ps3 sets, you'd need to get them special adapters to fit these in. The down side to it is although you could use it, the sounds kinda soft and you sound pretty soft as well so you might wanna speak up a little when doing this.Side tracking a little, if you're thinking wearing these will block out all the noises from the background, well.. sadly it doesnt. I could still hear when someone talks (on a normal speaking tone) to me even when i wear the headset, so its kinda has its pros and cons. But tbh a little bit of volume increase will solve this problem. So overall i'd say i'd give this headset a 7.5 out of 10 rating since the quality of build compared to its quality of sound and mic is great. Would i recommend all of you to get it? Sure do! :) Have a little fun, get one, and see for yourself if its great. I wont promise you'd be so gawdfully jawdropped by its performance (i know i did), but i can promise you'd smile for a whole 2 hr while you watch your favourite movie on the computer. Its a cool bling to have, and that GAMECOM label on the headset frame will turn heads on you when you're taking the train or bus, trust me. Enjoy the set!

I ordered this headset expecting a cheap build quality and a sub-par mic, but I can really say this exceeded my expectations.Build Quality: When I first took the Plantronics Gamecom 780 out of the box I could already feel how sturdy it is. Although the main frame is made of a sort of plastic, the headset still manages to feel sturdy and reliable, and seems like the kind that won't snap on you. The cable comes from the left earpod, and is sort of stiff, but this is a good thing for me, due to the fact that it won't easily tear or tangle.Comfortability: The top band and both of the earpods are all covered in the same type of cloth or felt. Although it does pick up a bit of dust and lint, it feels really comfortable. The angle in which the earpods rest on your head can feel a bit tight, but after about a day it straightens out and feels great. The earpods are able to be twisted about 90 degrees to lay "sort of flat" on a table or flat surface. Unfortunately, the earpods DO get a bit hot after around 4 hours of use.Sound Quality: The sound quality is probably the factor that wowed me the most. In normal stereo, the headset is able to reach very high highs, and very low bass. When Dolby Surround Sound is enabled,I really get enveloped in any game I play. When tested on Counter Strike: GO, I am able to tell from which hall people are coming, and from which direction they are shooting. Dolby on Guild Wars 2 also sounds great, as I said before, the surround sound really gets you into the game.Software: There isn't really much to say here... You have to download drivers for Dolby Surround Sound, which are on the CD shipped with the headset, however I believe it is better to directly download the latest version from the site, The download can be found here: [...]Microphone: The microphone is one of the main reasons I bought this microphone, before purchasing I had looked up many microphone tests to check out the overall quality, and I can tell you, it sounds far better than any mic I've heard before in this price range. First of all, when using this microphone, be sure to set the quality to 44100 Hz because when set to the other option, 48000 Hz, I found the microphone to have static in the background. This can be done in Windows 7 by opening control panel, clicking on "Hardware And Sound", pressing "Manage Audio Devices" under the "Sound" row, clicking on the "Recording" tab on the top of the menu, double clicking the "Plantronics Gamecom 780" row, clicking the "Advanced" tab on the top of the Gamecom 780 mic menu, and changing the Hz to 44100 under the drop down bar. Now, when they say this mic is noise cancelling, they MEAN noise cancelling. This mic cancels all unwanted background noise while delivering a crisp, clear sound to all your friends or foes. Some mic tests can be found here: [...] and here: [...]For now, the only con I see myself is the minimalism of the software provided, which only allows a "Gaming/Movie mode" and a "Music mode" which I don't really see a difference between. This headset is an excellent headset for a great price, and I recommend anyone to buy it. Should any problems ensue, I will update this review, That is all, Bye!

Just bought these last week and I have to say, that I'm impressed. Not only did amazon sell it for about $50, I was slightly skeptical about a headset being this price being any good. Boy was my skepticism misplaced. The headset is comfy, microphone works great and best of all, it works on pc and ps3 which are my two gaming platforms. I'm not that big an audiophile; for a long time I believed that while music and game sound was important to a videogame, and believe me, it is, with examples like the metal gear solid franchise and mass effect trilogy, amongst others, I'd always hear my friends talk about how a real gamer has a headset, and not headphones. Thing is, I realize I was ignorant because I never knew that games made certain sounds until I wore this headset. An example of this is Dead Space 3. I'm playing it right now and, no spoilers, there's a scene in the beginning where a ship crashes, and you're sliding down a mountain. I compared both this headset with a normal pair of headphones and the sounds were completely different. Don't even get me started with the amazing 7.1 dolby surround sound. I heard the rushing of the snow at the character's feet, the sound of the metal behind me ( I say behind because the surround sound's so good you'll actually feel like it's behind you), the sound of the rope you're using to rappel, and tons of other sound effects. The build for the headset's good in that it's strong and sturdy and I love the red and black. The controls for the headset are neat too, and I love that I can switch between surround sound and stereo in the blink of an eye. It's not wireless but the USB cord is a good length and it only requires one input so there are no cords to get dangled. Something that's small, but I saw a lot of reviewers glossed over, was the fact that you can turn the headrests inwards so they can hang on your neck. I just thought that was very cool and really comfortable when I was taking a break. Overall it's a fantastic headset. Just all around amazing. It's certainly worth the asking price and the features are worth way more than what you're paying. I talked to some friends who paid for turtles and they agree that this is better. And turtles' cost like $200.There's only one small issue I had, which popped up today when I decided to write this review. Now I don't know if this happens for everyone, but for some reason when I plug in my headset to a USB 3.0 slot, it gives problems. There's static for about 3-5 seconds every 30 seconds, which was infuriating. This can be solved by simply just plugging it into a port that's not usb 3.0 but I figured it was just something I could mention. I've bought a couple things from amazon but this was definitely my favourite buy. Thank you so much Plantronics for making this headset accessible to gamers on a budget and I'll continue to support you guys. Take care and thanks for letting me write this review.

**second update**To fix audio treble your going to have to use a VAC (virtual audio cable) and route the sound into a 3rd party program that has a equalizer, currently im using cubase, then send the audio back to the headphones. this can be very costly if you dont already have software, cost more then the headset itself, not to mention having all stuff running in background all the time. buyer beware, besides that they preforming pretty well.**update**considering returning due to no equalizer setting for these headphones, getting pretty annoyed. work around method, in media player you can set the equalizer in there, tho it will only be for media player. treble is still to high, no matter how you tweek. in speaker properties where you set to 7.1 you can uncheck the surround to give the sub a little more bass. if anyone knows of a equalizer let me know, so far all equalizers iv tried only work with that program. windows 7 doesnt have a default anymore -.-. i'v read plantronic forums for equalizer which was addressed early last year, since there isnt one now im going to assume they dont plan on having one made. not a audiophiles headset, next best is ATH-M50 or something similar, and get a stand alone mic. These are probably the cheapest 7.1 headset you can find but its not worth it. these headphones will sound good for the first hour or two but quickly become obnoxious.I love my bass, these headphones I was expecting a little more bass than my current Microsoft lifechat 3000 headphones. I wish I could set the treble and bass. there is too much treble and not enough bass. its a big upgrade from 2.1 but even at 2.1 with these headphones bass is still no match no matter what setting it is on. the software that comes with the headset seems a little pointless besides having drivers on it. it gives you a music and a movie/game mode which does absolutely nothing when changing these settings. the mic is very sensitive almost to sensitive, my ceiling fan is on low and it picks up the small gusts lol.pros:fair price, nice sound, comfortable, solid build wont have to worry about earphones falling apart or mic breaking from bent wires.wont have to worry about padding to tear from extensive wear has some cloth type of padding instead of plastic foam.look like a robot when in public (mic up and have a antenna).cons:bulky, not enough bass, treble is non adjustable, you have to turn on the surround sound from headset. gives blue led, kinda pointless to me.odd volume controls on back of headset.overly sensitive mic, no one needs to hear me breath or other background noise. open mics worse nightmare, it will pick up other peoples talk in vent threw your headphones.noise cancellation does not exist.other thoughts,I haven't had a issue with power while using a usb extension sounds the same with or without. you could stick a red "b" on each of earpiece and act like you have some beats, be a hipster. The red cable wire is a nice touch, gives a little style.I ordered 2 pairs

Plantronics GameCom 780 I had purchased it for gaming on the PC, previously had the Logitech PC Headset 120 (Behind-the-Neck) w/ Microphone Black 980447-0914 (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Headset-Behind--Microphone-980447-0914/dp/B000FKNZR0/ref=sr_1_30?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1363814671&sr=1-30&keywords=logitech+headset) After one year of use, almost 8 hours of house use daily, i felt like i need some new ones, just for me.evenings to replace a headset not designed for such things. Though I did plenty of research and read many reviews, I finally try this one. After a few weeks of using it, I'm ready to help others make a decision.PROS:Amazing for price.Accessible controls on the left part of headsetFlip up microphoneExcellent noise drowningCONS:Controls are hard for fast use.Cord should be a little longer ( at least 2 feets)Prolonged wear causes discomfort on the sides of the ears.need 10 minutes brakes each 2 hoursAmazing sound, the pros outweigh the cons.Honestly fantastic sound comes out of this, great surround sound and clearer sounds than I've heard out of almost any headset. They have a very good sound, especially when you instal the software, for gaming and movies, it's pretty solidly built. Like most, I appreciate a product that just feels durable and strong. The cord is a decent length but i rater like them a little bit longer.Win7 recognize them after a few seconds without the need for the accompanying software, but I highly recommend installing it anyway, you will notice the difference right away. The ear cups are something most people are concerned with,They easily fit all but sometimes i feel like i need to take them of to get a rest, i guest it is because they still hard and make pressure on the ears. Use volume moderation, because they really sound hard! The microphone was my greatest doubt, because I do a lot of online talking, and I like to be heard loud and clear and I can say the quality was a improvement from my previous headset's mic. You can move it up and down, is bendable, but i have not try it yet, they are perfect as they come, and this feature is good to switch from gaming to movies setting. The mic is really sensible, but when you talk you can do it with confident and everyone will hear you.As i told, prolonged use causes a weird feeling around the ears (maybe because the still like a rock). You will need to take short breaks. Do not try to flex the headset it might cause it to crack at the bases of the headband. The software is really simple to install, uses nearly no system resources, and primarily exists to change gaming/movie to music modes, witch i do a lotI highly recommend them, you will love them.

I have owned three pairs of Turtle Beach headsets. All three of them have broke within a year of getting them. The USB stopped working randomly and would not power the headset on my first pair. I decided I couldn't play Xbox without them since I didn't know of any other headsets for Xbox so I bought the same exact pair. All of my turtle beach headsets have had terrible cords and so have all my friend's turtle beach headsets. My second pair broke when the cord kinked so much that it was twisting into knots and there was no way i could straighten it out. I would try everything possible but the cord would go right back into a big knot. Finally the cord got so bad that it severed itself in half when i picked the headset up one day. This is when I bought the new turtle beaches, the X12. This headset was amazing in every way except durability and comfort. The bass was the best I had ever heard and the sound quality is close to the GameCom 780 if not equal. Yet within a year of using them the left earphone broke rendering them useless and VERY uncomfortable. Even duct tape and super glue couldn't fix it! That is when I gave a random headset from a brand I have never heard of a try. The GameCom 780.The sound quality is amazing. They are super comfortable and pretty easy to set up. Shipping was on time and the packaging was beautiful!GameCom 780Overall: 4.75/5--Aesthetics: 4/5 - They look very nice and the steel rods make them look really tough.Performance: 5/5 - Great sound quality! The reviews don't lie! The microphone is EXCELLENT!Durability: 5/5 - This headset is made to last. The material it is made out of is very nice!Installation: 4/5 - Just make sure you plug the headset in before you install the drivers on the CD. Very smooth installation.Turtle Beaches X12Overall: 3.75/5--Aesthetics: 4/5 - The black plastic makes them look pretty good with the Turtle Beach logo on the sides.Performance: 5/5 - Great sound quality. The headset mainly rests on your ears which will shake your head with the bass all the way up on high volume. The microphone can be moved and is ok but can mess up and cause weird sounds.Durability: 1/5 - Worst cord I have ever seen. It is made of plastic and the earphones are guaranteed to break sometime.Installation: 5/5 - These are the easiest gaming headsets to use. All you have to do is plug them in and it automatically switches to them. No installation required!Overall they are both very good gaming headsets. The gamecom rests on your head really comfortably, while the turtle beaches really just rest on your ears. They both have really good bass but if you are looking for something to vibrate your entire head go with the X12. Overall sound quality is better on the gamecom with better highs/lows and you can really hear music crystal clear.

Like others have said, make sure to enable surround sound through your control panel in both the new Gamecom entry AND the Sound... file? Entry? Whatever that thing would be called. Anyways, once you get there (it always takes me a while to find this part), highlight the gamecom headset on the list of sound devices, click on the configure button, in the new dialogue that opens you highlight 7.1 surround, test it out so you get a feel for how these headphones simulate surround sound, go ahead and spam the next button and you're good as golden. As far as the gamecom setup goes, that is easy as pie, so I won't go over that. If I remember right, though, you do have to open it and it won't automatically do it after going through the setup provided. The program is found both in your control panel if you use classic view and in your start menu, under programs. Now, onto the review. The speakers? There are certain times; hearing the crashing of waves, the soft footsteps of a wandering NPC, the vibrant explosions that leap at my command, or the sonorous timbre of a self-infatuated cut-scene star; where I still get swept away by the sound quality of this product. It really is amazing, and the bass is the bread and butter of the symposium of sounds taking place in your ear hole.Concerning the mic, I've heard one complaint, but I just repositioned the mic, and it was fine. The mic is very short, so it doesn't get in the way very often, but it picks up sound very well. While not overly sensitive, this mic is the first ever recording device I've ever spoken into where, when I heard the playback, actually sounded like the voice I hear all the time and I, personally, couldn't pick up any fuzz. Other than putting to rest all those lifelong suspicions that the voice everybody but me heard was much more nasally than the one I heard, I'm not sure what that last part adds to this review...Anyways, last but not least, it looks all professional and stuff. With the big ol' ear-muff style earpieces, it feels like putting pillows on your ears and it never gets irritable. The blocky style isn't overdone, and subtly says to the people that aren't looking at you because you're playing a computer game think "this guy knows what he's doing, but he doesn't need to show it." That and the surround sound button glows, so that's cool. :) I do wish the ear controls were reversed though. The glowing surround sound button faces you, so you can barely see this glowing aura emanating from the corner of your eye. It would have been nicer if they had it facing towards the back. And there, we've found a complaint. I'll leave you with that.

First off, I want to agree with every other reviewer that used these as their first 7.1 surround sound setup and were absolutely blown away. I was just amazed the first several game sessions of Battlefield 3, with helicopters flying overhead and distant explosions going off and knowing immediately their location. The games with surround support completely immerse you and add a level of awesome that you definitely cannot get with stereo sound. So, for gaming purposes, these things rock for the price. For everything else, I found the sound to be mediocre. Music, to me, comes off a little too high and loud. The bass response is there, but is difficult to get going without heavy modification with the media player equalizer. Speaking of equalizers, there is none for this headset. And from what I've read, there might not ever be. Because it requires the integrated software package for the Dolby technologies, Windows does not assign it much more than just a level normalizer and Full-Speaker range, but does not give it the tweak-ability that I needed, and thus decided to return them.Build-wise, these things are pretty sweet. I really like the openness of the entire construction, from the light weight, rotating cups, velvet pads, and metal rod support. The mic is very clear and easy to manage, as the boom rotates on a pretty wide angle range. I like the build so much that I'm looking into getting its little sister model, the GameCom 380.In short, if you are getting these for solely gaming, this is a phenomenal gaming headset. However, if you would use them for music, movies, or games that don't fully utilize the full range of the headphones, then you might find yourself wanting. I'm not an audiophile, or a bass-addict, but I do enjoy a little extra thump in my music and movies, and these kind of lacked in that department, enough so that I found them distracting. I'm looking into the GameCom 380, as it has a lot of the same features of this model, save for the USB connection and the Dolby Surround, which I can emulate via my sound card.EDITED 2/17/13So, I actually didn't return these. And, after having the headset for almost 2 months now and using it on a daily basis, I'm glad that I didn't. The main reason for my intention for returning was the lack of bass, and I won't say that the bass got better, but they made me listen to my music in a more "balanced" state, and I actually enjoy it more than how I had my old headset settings. The bass is there on heavy, electronic music, and for other forms of music that I listen to, admittedly most rock genres, it is there, but in a different form than before. The bass isn't rattling like it use to, but is more balanced. I will admit that I was quick to judge, but thankfully, they grew on me and I am very satisfied. 5/5 stars.

I ordered these on sale and got them much cheaper than the retail price. My initial impressions were good they are better than some of the lower end products available. However, comfort may be the major disadvantage with this product. The major reason I purchased these was twofold: 1) My old headset (Razer Carcharias) microphone was beginning to die. I couldn't talk for more than about 5 seconds before the microphone would fade out completely. 2) Amazon had a great sale on these.Pros:Sound. The sound from this device is great, especially for the price. It was a huge improvement from my old headset (Razer Carcharias). I noticed sounds from games that I may have missed in previous playthroughs. This sparked a new kindling with some older games.Microphone. I haven't used it much, but the microphone seems solid. I tested it in Ventrilo and found it to be clearer than my old Razer. With my previous headset, there were times where I felt the microphone was just too far away or that I had to talk abnormally loud for ventrilo to pick up all of my statement.Appearance. These are very stylish looking, I'm huge fan of the stainless steel, dark grey, and black making up most of the headset with orange accent. It looks great.Noise cancelling is great. It is very hard to hear anything else around you with these on. Compared to my old headset, it felt as if I had to drown out surrounding sound by turning it up loud. However, even at a medium volume, it's very easy to forget everything else around you.Sleek controls. All of the microphone and volume controls are on the left ear-bud. I liked this better than my previous headset, which had a control knob about 2 feet below the ear buds. The control knob would keep getting snagged or hung up on something, this problem doesn't exist with these.Volume levels. The headset allows a wide range of volume levels that range from unbearably loud to very quiet.Cons:Comfort. Out of the package the ear buds are very tight and can create a lot of pressure around your ears. It's not a huge problem at first, but during extended gaming sessions, it can get very uncomfortable. Granted I have only had these for a couple days, this problem may disappear with extended use.Volume out of the box. When I first plugged these in and tested them, they came out of the box on max volume and nearly deafened me. So watch out for that!Plastic connectors between headband and ear buds. I'm not sure if this will hold up, but given this is generally the weakest point in headsets, we'll see how it lasts.USB cable is short, much shorter than my old headset. I can make it work, but consider a USB extension if you're sitting further away from you tower than most.Overall: I would recommend these to a friend. At full price, I still think they are worth it and are competitive to other brands. I prefer this headset over my old Razer Carcharias. In time, I will add a review to mention how the durability held and if the comfort improved after "breaking in".

I was originally looking at some similar headphones from Logitech, but the price was right so I tried these instead. The intended use was to play games or join Google+ Hangouts, and I was hoping the mic would help eliminate noise in the room so people could hear me better and that the around-the-ear style would help eliminate room noise so I could hear the game better.First of all, they do not eliminate room noise well. The ear pads are a cloth material that doesn't block sound at all. In fact it sounds to me much like I'm listening to speakers in the room--I had to take them off to be sure. This turned out to be useful at LAN parties so I could hear people talking, but when I had someone watching TV in the room I just had to turn it up louder to drown them out (if the room isn't too loud that's not hard since the speakers are on your ears). Secondly, the mic seems to pick up the room more than I hoped. Since these were the two reasons I bought them I suppose I should rate it lower, but overall I've been very pleased so I only docked one star for these two issues. Works great to keep from disturbing others, at least. The sound is great for what I do (gaming and video chat), it's loud and clear and has a good range. They seem pretty sturdy for the price. The wire looks about 6 feet which is a good length for me.I complained about the ear pads above, but on the plus side they are very comfortable. I could wear them all day, in fact for the first two weeks I did wear them all the time because I had someone sharing my office, and it was no problem. There is an on/off switch for the mic. A volume switch on the earpiece lets you adjust volume, however this is a software switch that tells the OS to change volume by steps (10% or so I think) so it's not as precise as it could be. Probably not a big deal for most people but became an issue for me in Linux, noted below. The 7.1 Surround requires a driver and as far as I know they only have one for Windows. Linux is my primary OS when I'm not gaming so no surround there. Ubuntu Linux 12.04 detected the headphones right away and just worked. The software volume switch also worked out of the box in Linux but the volume change steps are too large and you hit minimum and maximum volume before the volume bar in OS is at the edges (normally you can change the step size in gconf-editor, but apparently not in this version of Ubuntu). The lowest volume I can hit with the switch on the ear is still a little too loud depending on my mood.In Windows the surround works alright but the effect isn't very dramatic. If you're used to stereo you might notice a difference, but if you're used to a real surround speaker system it might be too subtle. I've had other surround headphones before and none of them are very good for surround compared to real speakers, anyway, so I got exactly what I expected.Overall even though they didn't satisfy my main reasons for buying I was still very pleased with how the sound quality and how comfortable they are. I'd recommend them for most people shopping in this price range, especially if you might still want to be able to hear the room without disturbing anyone.

The Plantronics GameCom 780 headset is different from what most people are used to. Audio is delivered digitally to the headset via USB 2.0. Consequently, the digital to analog conversion takes place inside the headset, so the amplifier is also within the headset itself. This extra hardware inside the headset drives up manufacturing costs a little bit, but bypasses sometimes sketchy PC audio and microphone jacks, making setup often much simpler. Unfortunately, if you have a great sound card, it is also bypassed.Nevertheless, sound quality is decent from a headset at this price point, especially considering that it includes an integrated microphone. Sound isolation is mediocre for closed cans and music from them can easily be heard by others in the same room. As is the case with most closed headsets, sound quality is a little muddy, so an equalizer would be nice. The headset is very intolerant to overdriven audio (as can be easily and accidentally accomplished in VLC) quickly leading to audible clipping. The headset is tight and stiff and the ear pads are small, combining to make my large ears sore after only a few minutes. The main shortcoming of these headsets is that Plantronics does not provide Windows 8 support either on the bundled CD or on their website. However, it IS possible to install the bundled Dolby headset software by running the setup program in Windows 7 compatibility mode (this can also be done with GC780-Installer-Release-2.exe downloadable from the Plantronics website). If Windows 7 compatibility is not enabled for the installation executable, the installation program will silently abort before installing anything.Surround sound quality is very good. The Dolby audio settings make a significant difference to sound quality, so the Plantronics software should definitely be installed. Surround sound effects are accomplished by waveform shaping (similar to techniques used by old Vortex sound cards) played through the headset's two 40mm drivers and it works well. For instance, sound sources that are supposed to be behind you have high frequencies reduced to simulate how humans hear real sound sources in such positions. Compute overhead appears to be low; I could not detect any overhead in Task Manager. The microphone works very well for Google Voice. Some people have reported noise cancellation issues with their headsets, but this might be due to the fact that the mike is wrapped in plastic in several locations for packaging purposes and the plastic needs to be removed. If the Plantronics GameCom 780 headset had specific Windows 8 support (and an equalizer would be nice) and if the ear pads were larger and the headset wasn't so tight, I would rate the headset five stars for the current price of ~$50.

My old $20 Seinheiser headphones that had good sound but physically hurt my ears after extended periods broke. I needed a new headset (because I just sat on the Seinheisers and broke them) and I was willing to pay about $80 for really good ones (because I was drunk.) When these popped up as best rated for $50 I read the reviews and purchased a pair, I hazily remembered it the next day and then saw the brand, and I was like Planetronics, what kind of off-brand is that? It is a name brand, I don't know if it was a name brand before, but to me it is now a name brand. Damn these things are awesome. They are built with solid, thick pieces of plastic and actual metal where most headphones break. When I first used them I was a bit surprised that the (earmuff collars? not sure what to call them, the things that cup your ears and actually touch your head) were velvety instead of vinyl. I was a bit turned off by this at first, but happily surprised by how much better they are than plastic or vinyl. The sound is amazing, my first experience was talking with my friends on a teamspeak server. I had talked to them hundreds of times on teamspeak and in real life, I never noticed a difference until these headphones. It sounded like I was talking to my friends in a sound studio.I can also say that I can wear these headphones for hours without my ears really starting to hurt from the pressure of having heaphones on. I think they could stand to be taller in the ear cup thingy (as in up and down), and I have pretty small ears. A bit of adjustment gets my ears in a comfortable position that has yet to become uncomfortable due to pressure, but someone with larger (taller?) ears may eventually feel discomfort, as my ears fit perfectly. The distance that the padding spaces the solid speaker portion from my skull is generous enough to not put any inward pressure on my ears, this is something every other headset I have used has failed at.The sound: as I said earlier it sounds like I'm in a sound studio. I'd never really heard of planetronics aside from the random sound card where I figured they were some off-brand from China or something, I'm probably showing my ignorance here, but maybe not, maybe this is just the first brilliant product this company has produced, but I stand by that statement, brilliant.I will update this review in a few weeks as I use them for movies and games other than Diablo 3.

I am not a person who will be satisfied with any product. I like to have the best. It took me about 3weeks or researching every day for the best headphones for the price. I found these which interested me since i already had a gamecon headset which was broken by my sister but had worked amazingly. Now let me tell you a about these headphones.Pros:It if very comftorable (PLEASE READ): i found out the purpose for the twist inwards! When you have it on your ears you can twist it untill it isnt tight on your head. It helps on taking the pressure off and if you don't twist too much the headphones will still be fully on your ears. They also slightly adjust up and down by sliding the earpieces down on the metal. It adds about an inch on each side up or down.Sturdy. They look and feel sturdy. Not only the headphones but also the wire. The Sound is amazing. As soon as i got them i was testing the surround sound and regular sound and the quality of the sound is amazing. If you are looking for gaming with these the sound is more than enough. The Mic has great sound quality. The noise removal works well and removes most of the background noise. I was chating with my friend online and asked him if he could hear a difference in my voice. Even he noticed it from my headphones which were also gamecon.Cons: If you have a big head they might fit to tight. Adjustability is much more limited than most headphones but is adjustable enough to fit most people as long as their head isn't to big. So if your head is much larger than average you might want to make sure of think about getting another pair because these aren't adjustable enough to fit really large heads.Virtual surround sound not as great as expected. I tested the surround sound for about a day after i got them and all it sounds like is sound is coming from everywhere with a slight echo the whole time. Not sure if it is my computer that cant play surround sound like that or if its the headphones. For me stereo (surround sound off) works better and you can still tell where the shots or sounds are coming from with those surprisingly well.If they are to tight on you ears may get hot after prolonged gameplay. Minor thing if you like them to tight or if you didnt twist them back to adjust it to your ears.Wire may be a bit to short for some. Wire is only 2 meters which for people that move around the room or have a large work area this may be a struggle for them. But if you stay near your comp most of the time you should be fine.Well there is my rant. These headphones are great with a few cons such as ajustability which i figured out and surround sound which i don't use. But the pros out do those. I am enjoying these headphones and hope you guys get one and like them as much as i do. Hope my review helped.

First and foremost, go for the hassle free packaging thing. I have to say not having to to do battle with the super hard plastic clamshell makes my life easier. This is a pretty good headset for the 7.1 experience. Especially if you are not willing to commit more money for a better pair. First off, installation was easy. Pop in the disc, install and then plug it in. Using it was a bit of a challenge though. Honestly I was ready to send it back, because it should not be hard to install a set of drivers and plug in the usb connection. But before I contacted Amazon I jumped in the review and learned that Realtek needed to be uninstalled for those that use onboard sound (I cannot remember your name reviewer but thanks for the tip there). Once uninstalled and such the headset worked after a reboot. You may need to play with the windows sound settings itself to stop the buzzing when it boots up and shuts down (its a setting you need to check to stop the buzzing). The buttons(controls) are really obscured and pain to get to when wearing them. The volume button is such a pain, it is just best to use the keyboard volume control button if you have one. The mic mute switch is also in the same area as the volume.( upper back left). However, the button to switch between normal and 7.1 is the only easy button to get to. You can also tell if 7.1 is currenlty enable, because you will see a blue light lite up when it is on (this is before you put the headset on, the light is not noticeable when wearing it), and if you are wearing the headset you will heard a nice audio beep. The mic is flexible though I didn't mess with adjusting the mic, no one had any problems in hearing me.I will say if you don't put them on right though, your ears will hurt after awhile. Once I got the headset situated, it wasn't that noticable to wear. The 7.1 experience is pretty cool. I play PlanetSide 2 and I have to say I was blown away. I literally was mesmerized by all the sounds I was experiencing. From the tank treads to the footsteps, to the sound of Reavers flying by. It was an experience like no other. Its the little differences in other sounds that make 7.1 so great as I found out.OVerall, it's a pretty good headset for the price, and it is heavy but once you get it situated on your head you should be good to go.

A few years ago I had purchased the Plantronics Gamecom 777 headset and at the time I had loved them. They were comfortable, sounded pretty good, and made for a great introduction into gaming audio. Unfortunately, this is not at all the case with the 780 series. The good:If you are running a program that supports the Dolby 7.1 surround, the headset provides a great audio experience with rich quality and clarity. The bad: (Yes there was only ONE good aspect.)If the program you are running is NOT 7.1 surround, the headset leaves a very feint, hollow sound to the audio. In games that only support up to 5.1 ch, it feels as if you're in a long empty hallway and every voice that speaks and every shot you make echoes. The construction and design of these headphones are terrible. Reviews state that this headset squeezes your head, and this is absolutely true. A few reviewers said that theirs loosened up to comfortable levels, but so far that is not the case after about a month of use. The first week of use I began getting headaches if I wore them for over an hour due to the squeezing of pressure points.Inside of the ear cuffs is a poorly design choice which makes prolonged use impossible. The ear cuffs are elongated horizontally instead of vertically, so for someone with slightly larger than normal ear size your ears will NOT fit within the cushions resulting on the tops and bottoms of them being smashed against your head instead of cradled. Inside, the speakers are covered with a really hard plastic with sharp holes drilled across the surface and its only covered with a very thin FABRIC. My ears become sore and throb after wearing this headset for awhile due to the rubbing against the plastic surface inside.A small but important annoyance is also how short the USB cable is on this headset. Previously I could plug my headset into a USB port on the rear of my PC tower and have plenty of cable to lay over my desk and be able to move comfortably about in my chair. This cable won't even reach my head should I plug it in at the rear of my PC sitting next to my feet. Luckily I have a USB port on the back of my keyboard. The headset controls are terrible. The volume rocker is very sensitive and is placed on the back rear edge of the ear cuff, resulting in the unintentional adjusting of the volume every time you adjust or put on the headset. Other controls are greatly lacking, such as an on-the-fly channel settings switcher and especially a mic volume control.Unfortunately for me, I chose to stick it out with this headset and try to see if they will break in and become acceptable. I'm now past the return period and wish that I could send this junk back to Plantronics.

This headset has a very cool design, good sound quality, and is very comfortable. However, be aware that this Plantronics Gamecom 780 headset is very similar to its predecessor, the Gamecom 777, with it's 40mm speakers (difference is minimal) and microphone (amazing recording quality). Aside from some similarities, there are some notable changes: volume control on-ear, swiveling earpods with spin joints, USB only connection, and a more open, sleeker headset design.Features:+ 40mm speakers (good balance and bass)+ Noise canceling microphone and flips up when not in use+ Swiveling earpods with spin joints+ Earpods are connected to spint joints with tin barsImprovements from the Gamecom 777VOLUME CONTROL*Volume control is on ear - Located on the back of the left earpod, there is a volume dial and microphone switch. The volume dial is with an up and down fashion, which easy to reach and provides tremendous convenience. No more staring down on the cord to change the volume.DOLBY DIGITAL SOUND CARD*No more dolby digital USB adaptor. Instead of having a headphone and microphone input, it's now merged into one usb connection. I actually prefer having the option to connect to other audio devices. This headset is only for the computer.DESIGN* Swiveling earpods with spin joints. It gives the headset another dimension and choice of opening the headset flat.* The headset has a far more "open" and sleek design. Instead of a the bulky headband, The headband is thinner and there are tin bars connecting the earpods to the spin joints. The rear of the earpods are glossy and has a jagged blocky design.* The microphone is good and better than the Gamecom 777. Noise cancellation is very clear and captures the voice perfectly. I thoroughly enjoy using this microphone as voice over for video editing. It's no condenser microphone, but this microphone captures a very crisp, clean sound.Similar or worse than the Gamecom 777DESIGN* I see a potential durability issue when looking at the Gamecom 780's headband. At where the spin joint meets the headband, there is a curve that creates a little flex. I've noticed that there is a limit as to how far I can pull the two earpods apart. With care, the headband should not snap. However, there is still a chance that the headband can snap if the earpods are pulled too far part. With all electronics, with care, the product should be fine in the long run.SOUND QUALITY* The sound quality is almost identical to that of the Gamecom 777. I would not be surprised if the 40mm speakers are the same speakers used for the Gamecom 777. Still, the sound quality is very good and clear. Bass, highs, lows, voices, dialogue are all generally good. What I like about the sound is that the bass does not overwhelm the other sounds. It's good to have a balance, and this headset does well at that. Again, the 777 and 780's sound are very similar. If you don't mind the bulky design and blocky look, the Gamecom 777 is a better value choice. Otherwise, paying a little more for the Gamecom 780 gives you a stylish design, many subtle convenient design details, and an impressive noise cancelling microphone.Compared to the Gamecom 777, the main difference is the sleeker and cooler design. However, with the more open and sleeker design, some bulk and durability may have been compromised. Sound quality of both 777 and 780 are similar.I hope that my comparison the Gamecom 777 has helped. This Gamecom 780 headset is great for gaming, communication (skype, video calling), and music.

I just picked these up at Best Buy after checking Amazon for reviews. With so many glowing reviews I'm astounded that I hate these headphones so much.First, I typically have speakers and headphones going at the same time. My wife and son sit nearby and many times if I find a funny video or something while using headphones I simply turn on my speakers so they can hear it too. Doesn't work with these, you can not output to USB headphones and your sound card at the same time. I now have to either unplug the headphones or disable them then close and re-open the program to get audio to change. Another use for dual outputs is that many times I'll have music playing for everybody to hear, but be listening to it much louder on my headphones. No can do with these.*EDIT* - Looks like I found a bit of a work arrund for this one. [...] is free and lets you assign a hot-key on your keyboard to switch audio outputs on the fly.Second, The volume control on the headphones doesn't actually adjust volume. It makes a low pitched beeping sound if you move the control one way, and a higher pitched sound if you move the other way, but the actual volume never changes. If I'm in a game and want to change volume I have to tab out and change it in Windows then go back in to the game. Support suggests unplugging the headphones, rebooting PC, then plugging the headphones back in to fix it. Doesn't seem to work for me, plus it seems like I would have to do this EVERY time I want to unplug or plug in these headphones.*EDIT* - It seems I've found the fix for this. The last post at [...] solved this problem, all I had to do was manually start the HID service. The one saving grace is the sound quality. Wow these sound good. I have a pair of (analog) Plantronics Gamecom 367 or 377 (don't recall, both models look identical) and these 780's blow those out of the water in a back to back (well sorta - read above!) test.I'm going to give these another day or two, but I have a strong feeling that they will be getting returned.*EDIT* - Turns out the saving grace REALLY WAS the sound quality. At first I had only played a game for long enough to get angry at the above complaints. After listening to some music the sound quality made me want to keep these enough that I really dug in and looked for solutions. Below each issue is the solution I eventually found and now I'm pretty happy. The only issue remaining is that I can't listen to both at once and that seems like its either truly not possible or it's going to take some real digging, but I can live with that. My review has been changed from one star to 4.

This headset is amazing, hence the 5 stars.Everybody talks about how comfortable and amazing the sound quality is--and they're TOTALLY RIGHT!...So I'm going to share my thoughts on some SMALL negative things (that I honestly can't fault this headset for):***YES, this headset can totally BLAST YOUR EARS OFF... IF you set all of the volume settings to max.I can listen to music in Winamp at 100% volume for a little while. It's VERY loud, but I love super loud music sometimes (until it gets to be painful). But I noticed that I can NOT tolerate max volume when watching videos on Youtube.I ALMOST DIED when I first tried watching a video at max volume.I've spent a LOT of time messing with the Volume Mixer (I'm using Win7 x64, by the way), and after a long time, I came to a conclusion:***Reduce Youtube's volume down to about 70%(It would be nice if the Volume Mixer in Windows 7 actually SAVED the volume configurations, but they get reset when you close/re-open applications.Useless!!)100% headset volume + 70% Youtube volume = a very good combination, in my opinion. It's still very loud, but not enough to cause me pain. So, AS A RULE OF THUMB, set your headset to max volume, and then adjust the volume levels on all of your applications so that it's ALMOST painfully loud. This will be your new max volume, and you'll never have to worry about blood stains on your headset!SIDE-NOTE:By the way, when you finish installing/updating the headset's drivers, your headset is set to 5.1 surround sound by default (mine was, at least). To change it to 7.1:1. Go into your sound options (it's just called 'Sound' in Win7)2. Open the 'Playback' tab3. Right-click your headset4. Click 'Configure Speakers'5. Set them to '7.1 Surround'SIDE-NOTE (again):By the way, the volume knob doesn't always respond IF an Adobe Flash Player window is the active window.Unfortunately, all Youtube videos use Flash, and this seems to be an issue with Flash--not this headset.***The only way to work-around this is to left-click outside of the Youtube window (your taskbar, for example) to give it focus and then adjust your volume with the knob on your headset....Hopefully, this will be fixed in a later version of Flash, but for now, it's a small annoyance I (and possibly others) have to deal with.TO RE-ITERATE, this is an AMAZING headset, so do yourself a favor and BUY IT. NOW! =D...And buy it from Amazon (the vendor)! I always get my stuff within 2 business days of ordering!

I got these to replace my aging Plantronics 770's thinking they would be a nice upgrade. Well not so much. They are well constructed and are relatively comfortable during long gaming sessions, ie: 3+ hours or more. The look and style of the Plantronics 780 is also well done and very sturdily constructed. The integrated sound card makes the need for high dollar standalone cards. The 780's have too many annoying little things that have cause me to stop using them all together and for me to go back to my 770's. First the "Dolby" sound system on these is very poor. The sound driver tries to create the illusion of multiple speakers and distance but fails badly, ultimately causing anyone talking to sound like they are speaking in to a tin can. I ended up playing with the Dolby sound turned off. The second thing is the volume control. It is a total pain to deal with as it's not only full digital so you have to hold the slider button that is located on the back left speaker case till the desired level is reached but it resets to a default level each time you restart your computer. This makes you have to reset the volume each time you fire up your rig and as there is not an actual set and forget control you have to play with it till it's just right for you each and every time. Thirdly the mic mute stitch is very near the volume and the switches feel identical of you are not paying attention and you may accidentally shut your mic down. Fourth thing, (still about the volume here) sometimes the headset just flat out refuses to turn down and gets stuck. The fifth thing is mic echo. Because of the pass through design and the mic being hyper sensitive it picks up the sound front he left speaker and you get a constant feedback echo on Vent of team speak. Now on the sixth issue, The 780 refuses to turn all the way down at times when watching some flash videos. The system volume can be set to all the way down but they still play as if the volume was set to 50-60%.Audio quality is not as good as one should expect from these. While the 780 does a superb job at the mid and high range frequencies, there is little to no low end bass to back it up. There were countless times action in movies or games that these headphones just failed to produce that low end punch that should have been there. I really wanted to like these and hoped they would be a suitable replacement for my older Plantronics 770's. I gave them a fair try for over two months and just had too many things that I didn't care for. So I went back to my 770's and have to continue looking for a replacement headset.

We all know good quality headsets are ridiculously over priced. I think the MSRP for this is 80, Amazon had and has this for 57 dollars new. For 57 dollars, it's well worth it, as good as the other overpriced models. Simulated 7.1 works, not the same as real 7.1 but you really do get a much richer sound, and you can hear voices clearly. Great for games and music, surprisingly good bass response. I've seen people plug and play this in a mac, but never tried it so don't guarantee it. Software (for 7.1) won't work on a Mac anyway. The software puts a shortcut to turn on the 5.1, and a shortcut tot he sound control panel to decide what is the default speaker/mic, on your start bar. You can switch from game/movie 7.1 to music 7.1 there.Volume control on the back is disguised as a wheel, but it's actually a sort of switch you hold up or down. Mute button on the back with it, along with the very bright 7.1 button on the front that lights up when on. All buttons have an audible noise in the headset when pressed, with the volume one getting louder or softer depending on which way you pressed it so you know what level you put it at.I found it comfortable, I have an average-to-large size head, and it was constricting for the first two days but either I got used to it or it got used to me. Ear muffs are comfortable even though my earlobe doesn't fit inside and is pressed on by the ear muff, I don't feel it. Your ears MIGHT get hot, but it's felt and not leather. I also had just switches from a flimsy Logitech "behind the head" set up, so I may have been used to that. Plenty of cushioning on the earmuffs and on the arch over the head. Sometimes they hurt after an hour or so.It does fold away to store sorta flat, but it's like a bad spreading its wings, it gets large. There is a sound leakage issue if you have it a bit loud, so be prepared for that if you use it in a public space. With the good sound your tempted to up the volume, anyone within one or two meters will notice it and if you have it loud enough will hear it clearly enough to make out whats being said. The only two cons is the microphone can be a touch too sensitive when I have my fan on, but every headset I've ever used has had that problem. Also, on skype there is a rare but noticeable buzzing coming through the speakers when I talk, almost like a feedback. I hear it, others do not. It is a rare occurrence, but it can be slightly bothersome when I do hear it.I also wish the cord was 8 feet instead of 6.5, but I solved that with a USB extender I had lying about so I could listen in bed. I like some music before I go to sleep. All in all, I'd recommend this...if it stays at under sixty five dollars. I use it for skype, gaming, music, and movies. One word of caution for Skype, it loves to automatically reduce your mic gain because the mic is sensitive. Disable that feature in skype's control panel and manually set it. It's not the headset's fault, it's Skype's fault.

These are my second pair of Plantronics headsets, and they don't disappoint. The audio from this particular headset is amazing. A choice of 5.1 surround sound is standard, but there's also an option for 7.1 Dolby Surround with a push of a button that lights up blue when pressed directly on the left ear piece. With the installed GameCom software you can change the Dolby Surround mode between Gaming/Movie or Music. I'm not much of an audiophile, so I can't really tell the difference between the modes; I often use the Gaming/Movie mode anyway. One thing to note that I've noticed: if you're playing a game that wasn't programmed for use of 7.1 Surround Sound, then you won't hear much difference between 5.1 and 7.1 modes, at least I couldn't. Bass response is my favorite thing when it comes to sound, and this headset satisfies that. I can hear all the lows, and explosions sound outstanding. My gaming in certain online FPSs have improved because I can actually hear where an enemy is running from. Close sounds actually sound near me, and distant sounds actually sound far. It's great! Makes the battles sound legit. The size of the cans are perfect for me. They're HUGE! But that's my preference. They cover your entire ear, but they do so comfortably with a sort of velvet-like cushion on both cans and on the head rest. These are super comfortable to me, and I have a large head! Favorite perk; they keep my head warm during winter gaming sessions! They're comfortable enough to wear for long gaming sessions. The construction feels sturdy enough. I've read some negative reviews saying this set is too fragile, and that the plastic pieces break with little effort. I believe these people are too rough with the headset, probably tossing them on their desks or something, but they feel very sturdy to me. Again, I have a fairly large head, so it does take some stretching of the headphones to get on properly, but it does it with ease. The controls on the headset are very convenient; you have the volume dial, mute switch, and 5.1/7.1 button all on the left can.The microphone works just fine as well. I've had no complaints with other players stating difficulties with hearing me. The placement of the mute switch directly on the headset is much more convenient than having it on a control panel on the cord.Overall, if you're on a budget and want a fantastic wired USB-connected headset that produces great sound with clarity and adds BOOM to your games, movies, or music, this headset is perfect!

Decent sound, but there are negatives to considerThe quality of the construction and materials seems average. I would prefer if they were a little better built, but they're acceptable for the price. The fabric used on the ear pieces and the head padding is the same fabric they use in fabric lint rollers. It's soft enough, but collects lint accordingly. The mic boom is flexible rubber and decent quality, but it doesn't allow you to adjust its location in and out and sits further from the mouth than expected.Pros:Sound - The sound quality is very decent. I'm not an audiophile so take it with a grain of salt, but both games and music are quite enjoyable for me with this headset.Comfort - At first I found these uncomfortable and pinching which after an hour of use caused significant discomfort. However, once I lowered the ear pieces to wear this a bit loose (more loose than I normally prefer headphones) they fit much better. After hours of use they are still comfortable for me.Microphone - The mic is very sensitive and picks up sound really well.Cons:USB - The USB interface is one you want to avoid for headsets if you have a good soundcard. USB headsets include their own audio card built-in to the device in order to work. Therefore, using these will bypass the soundcard in your computer. Also, the USB cable is quite short. This device isn't compatible with USB 3.0. Since I only have 3.0 on the front panel of my computer I would prefer a longer cord to run it from the back.Dolby - The simulated 7.1 is not appealing to me. It simulates surround by making the audio more `spatial'. This doesn't add to the audio quality though; it makes the sound worse in my opinion. The default setting is off,Volume Control - The volume control is a rocker switch in a convenient location on the back of the left ear-piece. The rocker switch is annoying. You rotate and hold it in one direction or the other to change the volume. I would prefer a dial instead of holding a switch. No Audio Controls - This device has no equalizer to adjust the audio. The audio levels it ships with is okay, but if you wanted to customize your sound you should purchase a different headset.Microphone - The mic is overly sensitive and even on low input volumes it picks up any background noise like you mouse and keyboard, breathing, etc.In summary, decent sound and comfort for the price, but has some limitations.

Ok so I choose 4 stars because it's lacking a needed EQ for the headset. Other than that the headset is great quality, the padding used for the ear cups are the best. Leather ear cups don't breathe at all but these have no issues, it's great. The headset isn't to heavy. The mic only comes down on the left side so you can't wear the mic on the right side of your head if anyone does that I don't know. The wire used is pretty nice, it doesn't tangle so much but I have to hold the wire sometimes with the headset dangling so it can untwist itself. When it does that I've noticed that the cord gets shorter and it kind of gathers up but doesn't tangle and get in a knot or anything. This headset is VERY loud. If I have my computer volume set to max, I have to set my Winamp volume under 5% if I'm in Skype with people. My game volumes are turned down to about the same. What you could do is set the volume on the computer to low and set everything else on max. Also the volume control on the headset controls the computers volume, not the actual headset. Be careful because I truely feel you could go deaf with these if you aren't careful with volume and you all a sudden get a commercial on Youtube that's insanely loud and you blow your ear drums..I tried connecting to USB 3.0 and it does not work. It makes horrible crackling noises and I feel like it could break your speakers. I did something that Plantronics recommended on their site and it didn't work. The surround sound on this thing is amazing. Playing FPS games again thanks to this thing and its been great. You can truly tell where footsteps are coming from and gun shots etc.The bass is really nice on this headset, crisp and deep. I wish I could get more out of it thanks to an EQ but we don't have one.Sound quality as a whole is amazing. The mic is amazing as well, everyone says I'm crystal clear.I game for hours a night at times and this thing is pretty comfy. There's always times your'e going to adjust it because you just have to. No headset is 100% comfy. For the price this is a amazing headset for gaming. I recommend it to people I know if they are looking for something cheap and worthwhile.I think Plantronics is slacking on making software for this headset. They are to focused on releasing weird headsets for people in work places or something. They have an amazing product here and if they added this one thing they could really pull ahead in the gaming industry.

I didn't bother with the included driver cd, opting to download the latest drivers directly from Plantronics' website instead. The issue is that the driver package doesn't exactly like Windows Server 2008 r2. By going into the driver package's properties and setting its compatibility mode to WinXP SP3, I was able to get everything to install without an issue. The driver program itself is simple; Dolby surround On/Off and Gaming/Movie or Music modes are your only options. Like other reviewers, I had to go into the sound control panel and set the headset to 7.1 (it defaulted to 5.1 on my system), where the control panel complained about some other program using the device, and how all sorts of doom and gloom could possibly come to my system if I continued trying to access the device with two different programs. Ignoring that part is a good idea! ;PSince I've had these for all of 30 minutes, I've only been able to play MechWarrior Online, which produced the expected amount of surround. The bass is definitely a bit lacking (my head wasn't rumbling from all the heavy ordinance used in MechWarrior), but I haven't had time to try out the bass boost setting that is native to Windows. As for comfort...the pads are all gloriously soft. I want a bed made of this stuff. The problem is that, even though I'm a tiny guy (5'3"), my bean is apparently WAY TOO BIG (or soft) for the pressure these things can squish with! Seriously, I've never had a pair of headphones make my head feel so much like it's just a grape in the hands of a toddler. Again, this is all after only about 30 minutes of wear. I'm hoping that I'll be able to stretch these out over time, because I love everything else about them so far.I have not had a chance to try the microphone, so you'll want to look elsewhere for advice on that. And as a final thought, there is no way to connect these to something that is not a computer. You're stuck with USB only here. The Plantronics GameCom777 Gaming Headset, however, has normal stereo and microphone 3.5mm connections that plug into a USB breakout box to provide surround for a computer.Due to the excruciating pain caused by wearing these headphones, and the omission of the 3.5mm to USB connection that the previous version had, I'm only giving this 3 stars. But for the money ($57 at the time of purchase), it does everything else right.

I was originally looking for a USB headset to handle conference calls while working remotely from home using Avaya one-X Agent (VoIP).I first went to Target and got the Logitech h390, but promptly went back to return it the next today. The Logitech h390 was way too tight on my ears (I have a small head), the controls were mediocre, and music sounded very hollow. Realizing that there was a lot of researching to do, I scoured the Internet for various USB headsets specs and reviews.USB headsets for business all had one caveats or another, and none were well-rounded. Some had speaker quality issues, some had microphone issues, some had volume/mute control issues, some had build quality issues, and some had software compatibility issues.I stumbled upon the GameCom780 while browsing the Plantronics product catalog, and all the reviews from different blogs and websites were very positive. I bought this from Amazon.com since they had the best price ($50) at the time.So here's my review of the Plantronics GameCom 780:It's plug-n-play. Windows XP 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit will detect the speaker/mic as USB Audio. I didn't have to install any software to get it to work with Avaya one-X Agent and Skype. The factory sound quality is very good. It doesn't come with an equalizer (which I wish they could have included), but 3rd-party software equalizer can get it to sound amazing and just the way you want.If you like music or enjoy gaming with great sounds effects and soundtracks, the *REAL GEM* about the GameCom 780 is the Dolby Pro Logic IIx that comes with the software. Prior to this, I was familiar with the Dolby Pro Logic of the 1990's, which wasn't too impressive and sounded like fake surround sound. Dolby Pro Logic IIx will take your stereo sound to another level of depth and perception. If your game or movie supports 5.1 output, make sure to turn it on and turn Dolby Pro Logic IIx on the headset. Switching back to 2-channel stereo will suddenly sound flat and dull. All controls are on the headset, on the side the mic is attached to. It has volume up/down, mute, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx controls (Dolby feature requires software to be installed). The mute button is actually a slide switch, which is great in figuring out if you're muted or not muted without looking. The headset is pretty massive, so I wouldn't wear at to work if your office is a suit and tie kind of place.

The Plantronics GameCom 780 is the best-for-the-money gaming headset that you can get. I had for about 3 months now, and I can say that these aren't perfect, but for $60 with the feature it has, it can't get any better. The quality of the microphone is fantastic. While playing with friends, they would ask what headset I had, because the microphone quality is great. The noise cancelling feature isn't as great as I thought it would be and it does pick up some background noises, but it doesn't bring the down the quality of the microphone. The quality of the sound is something to be desired a little more. Don't get me wrong, Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound is fantastic, and it sounds so awesome when I watch movies or play games. But I could notice the sound quality of the headphone speakers while listening to music. I own many headphones and I can tell how music sounds like because I'm a musician. The bass is something to be desired a little more and it has a slightly muffled sound to it. It may be the Dolby 7.1 technology at fault, but for $60, this is definitely okay. The average Joe probably won't be bothered by it. Also, others around you can hear everything that you're listening to. The only way this can be bad is if you have someone else in the same room as you are and you are trying not to disturb them.Comfort wise, I personally don't think these headphones are very comfortable. They are only bearable (that's why I knocked down a star from the rating). I think of myself having big ears, and the headphones barely cover my ears. As a result, the tip of my ears bend a little or gets squished by the foam, and it kind of hurts my ears after a while of wearing it. Those with big ears, this might be a problem, but others won't have a problem. The only thing saving the headset from being annoying is the foam (which has cushion and is soft to the touch). The build quality of this is fantastic. For $60, I thought that the build quality wasn't going to be the greatest, but Plantronics uses high quality plastic to ensure that the build quality is great. Also, the headset can lay flat on your shoulders, which is a good feature. If you're thinking of buying a gaming headset on a budget, look no further. Pick this up right now! Although I have my reservations with the headset, I find that at the price point (and with Dolby 7.1), this can't be beat!Props to Plantronics in making a great gaming headset.

I work in a home office and have used the headset to make calls, listen to music, and play online games in the evenings for about 3 years now. I wear this headset sometimes more than 8 hours a day. It is extremely comfortable despite my large head and glasses. This was one of my main concerns, as I have owned several headsets and headphones over the years, and they have all been uncomfortable, if not impossible, to wear longer than half an hour. Not this headset. It also has great sound quality using the provided USB sound card on my 2010 iMac--better than the on-board sound for sure.It does have a few flaws, however.Flaw #1: The microphone rotates up and down but will no longer stay in the upright position on its own. From having read other reviews, I knew to expect this and wasn't surprised. You may as well plan on this happening to you. I use a twist-tie to keep it out of the way--it's easy to quickly lower the mic when I need to answer the phone and then hook it back in the upright position when done.Flaw #2: The USB soundcard is about 3 inches long and juts directly out from the port. It has a cheap plastic case that was quickly cracked when one of my kids tripped on the cord. Now it sits loosely in the USB port and the sound goes in and out anytime the desk or cord gets jiggled. Very frustrating, but unlikely to be a problem if you're more careful than I was. I ended up having to buy a new sound card, the Griffin iMic, which also had the benefit of solving the weird problem I talk about at the end of the review.Flaw #3: This is a biggie. After about 3 years of frequent use, some kind of short has developed inside the volume knob housing. There's a little plastic housing about 18 inches down the cord from the headset itself, where there's a little knob that you can use to adjust the volume. There's also a little clip there so you can attach it to your shirt front or whatever. I use it all the time, and it's really convenient. However, recently whenever I change the volume, it creates a burst of static in the speakers as I rotate the knob, and the right speaker drops in and out as the knob turns. Depending on where I stop rotating the knob, the right speaker will remain silent until I squeeze the plastic knob housing or wiggle the knob a little. This is very annoying and frustrating. I'm going to have to buy a new headset soon. I guess if you use your headset less than me, you may not experience this kind of wear and tear. I use my headset for several hours a day almost every day. Still, I'm downgrading my rating to three stars for this headset. For $80 I expect better quality than this. This is a good headset if you can deal with those flaws. One other thing to mention for Mac users. The Mac OS, from Tiger through Lion, has a bug that will cause your voice to turn into an unintelligible and staticky robot voice if you talk for a certain amount of time. It seems to vary for different people. For me, it's almost exactly one hour. It's a bug that occurs with all USB headsets when used with Macs and is something to be aware of if you're a Mac owner. The Griffin iMic solves the problem and is probably worth the investment for many people.

Compared to other gaming headsets that I own, the Plantronics GameCom 780 Surround Sound Stereo PC Gaming Headset is, in several ways, a notch better. And well that should be for a poduct coming from a company that specializes in commercial headsets. Headsets that routinely take and survive a beating on the job. On the other hand, there are some surprising omissions with this product. The fit is nice and comfortable with plenty of padding. Although there is little to no ear pad ventilation so expect your ears to get a bit warm after a while. (Think of wearing ear muffs and you'll have the idea.) The GameCom 780 looks like it will hold up over time, but that remains to be seen.I especially appreciate that, while it is primarily intended as a gaming headset with included microphone, the software that comes with the GameCom 780 also supports music, movie and Dolby Digital audio--making it a versatile product for different kinds of audio sources. I tried it with two computer simulations, World of Subways Volume 3 and Train Simulator 2012. Setting the software to the surround sound game mode, the background subway noise in World of Subways, Volume 3 came alive. I couldn't pinpoint precisely where the talking and subway noises were coming from, but I felt immersed in the sounds. And that's the point, isn't it? Train Simulator 2012 wasn't quite as dramatic and three-dimensional, but the audio was acceptable.I switched the software to music mode and listened to several Internet radio stations and songs in my music library. I noticed that the bottom was a bit muddy. Overall the sound was not the same as it is with my higher quality Sennheisers and Koss pro headphones, but still perfectly acceptable especially considering the sources and the intent of the headset.I did not test the microphone, but that is on my "to do" list. There are a few features that I would have liked to see included on the unit. For one thing, the included Surround Software doesn't work with Macintosh computers. And that's a shame because the headset does indeed work with a Macintosh computer. In fact the exact model is recognized and reported by the OS X (Lion) Sound Control panel for both the headphones and the microphone. Alas, because of the Windows-only software there is no way, out the box, for Dolby Digital Surround Sound audio to work on a Mac. Given how Macs are used these days and their current popularity, this is a serious omission on Plantronic's part. Therefore I gave the Plantronics a one star penalty for this product. They should have been far more open minded about non-Windows support. There is no volume control on the headset cord (including one is something of a mixed bag, but they still are nice to have.) And there is no way that I could find to mute the microphone. And some USB headphones, as of late, have come with adapters that allow them to be plugged into MP3 player and other non-USB audio inputs/outputs. The GameCom 780 does not include this kind of adapter in the package. These are omissions missing from the GameCom 780 Headset that several competing, less pricey, gaming headsets include.Still, in terms of wearability, flexibility (especially if you are using the GameCom 780 with a Windows computer) the Plantronics GameCom 780 Surround Sound Stereo PC Gaming Headset gets a nod from me.

I'd always bought Turtle Beach headsets in the past which were not the greatest quality as far as sound or durability. I decided to see if I had any other options and found these after following customer recommendations. I decided not to review them until I've had them at least 6 months. Now the time has come:Pros:+ Very comfortable. My gaming sessions can be incredibly long at times. I've never once felt discomfort anywhere on my head from the headset. The band over the head and earphones are covered in about an 1/2 - 1 inch layer of cushy foam. Sewn over that is a soft suede-like material. Earphones have a wide range of adjustment and enclose my entire ear.+ Durability. The cable is beefy. I haven't run over it with my chair yet since it isn't impractically long like other brands, but I imagine it could withstand more abuse than the cheap cables I've seen on other headsets. Each earphone can rotate about 90 degrees. This helps when the headset is set down in a hurry, accidentally jarred, etc. The rotation makes the earphones very hard to break from the head band portion.+ Sound quality. The microphone is such a good quality I can almost not stand to hear recordings of myself since it picks up EVERY little sound I make. Not the kind of quality I expected with a budget headset. I play Dayz a lot and can hear every in-game sound crystal clear and can accurately estimate the direction it came from. No complaints.Cons:- Included software. The volume control interface program that gets put onto your taskbar is simplistic and yet sometimes unresponsive to the on-board volume control. There is sometimes 2-3 second lag between my hitting the volume control (which is not a wheel that rotates, but a wheel-looking part that can only be forced up or down a few notches) and an actual change in volume. Feels a bit cheap and does not respond quickly.- Some construction concerns. There isn't really a conventional stress relief where the cable attaches to the earphone. So far it has not caused a problem, but it is a bit worrisome. I would also kind of like the mic to be on a flexible arm, but I'm nit-picking.Overall the pros far outweigh the cons. Within the price range I haven't encountered a headset that I've been happier with.

These headphones looked like the ones for me- USB connection, extremely high ratings, and a good price. Shipped fast and in perfect condition, with easy setup too. They're comfortable, the microphone works great, and all that stuff.Unfortunately, I encountered one problem that, after two hours of Google searches, seems to plague many others with this headset- on all three computers in my house, two running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit, and one running Vista Home Premium, 64-bit, the sound is extraordinarily loud at the computer's lowest volume. This seems to affect only 64-bit systems, which you can check by going to Start->Right click Computer->Properties under "System Type". As someone who is used to changing the volume via my wireless keyboard's buttons, leaving them alone and adjusting slider bars on iTunes, YouTube, various games, etc. is quite annoying. This sucks, because the headphones feel and otherwise work incredibly well. After messing around with some sound settings and emailing Plantronics, I think I'm going to have to suck it up because I love these headphones. I am going to try to get Plantronics to deal with this issue, because I doubt it is the headphones themselves. Without this problem, easily 5 stars though.EDIT: Well, an hour later and here I am making an edit. It appears that, on my computer (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit), installing the CD that comes with the headphones (it's the software to install the 7.1 surround sound) makes it so it has this volume problem, with the additional problem of playing sounds through the speakers when the computer is at zero volume. I am currently unsure what to do with this situation. I have no idea how nobody else has encountered this problem on Amazon before, seeing how widespread it is when I Googled it. More updates to come as I try to figure this out.EDIT 2: I returned these headphones a week later. The issues with it and my computer just didn't work for me. I am currently using a cheaper pair of Logitech headphones, but I am still looking at Plantronics for another set- preferably 3.5mm headphones that I will buy an adapter to use on my combo jack-equipped computer.

I have been a big fan of headphone audio and do a lot of my listening through a Headroom DAC and headphone amplifier coupled with AKG 701s (open) or beyerdynamic 770s (sealed). I also play some multiplayer games online through Steam, especially Team Fortress 2. Oddly enough, I never had a gaming headset. I used my headphone amplifier for audio and used the microphone on a webcam for voice. While the audio was great through the USB DAC, the voice solution left a lot to be desired. So I jumped at the chance to try out a dedicated gaming headset. This Plantronics set acquits itself nicely.I downloaded the headset's management software from the Plantronics website. (Seriously, who installs drivers from CDs included with products anymore? They're always stale! Get the latest version from the website.) It installed without a hitch. When I then plugged in the USB cable, Windows 7 detected the headset and loaded up the drivers. The Plantronics software is incredibly simple and allows you to toggle the Dolby surround mode on and off as well as offering a selection of a music or gaming/movie profile. You can access it in the system tray on the lower right or via the control panel's audio device menu, where it adds a GameCom icon.I tried streaming some music through them from MediaMonkey, the audio software I use. It allows you to stream USB audio without involving the kernal mixer in Windows. I ran some lossless files through them. These are adequate for music in a pinch. It isn't really fair to compare them to the AKGs or beyerdynamics, and they don't come close. They are sealed headphones, so you don't get sound leakage (something that your spouse or roommate might appreciate); however, they do suffer from the typical acoustic problems many sealed headphones have. They're a bit chesty and boomy for music. But, wow, they're nice for gaming. With the Dolby surround switched on, I played some TF2 and Terraria. The audio is great for gaming. There's good detail retrieval, and the simulated surround actually seems to work well. The microphone works well, too. No problems getting it set up in Steam for voice chat or in TF2. People can hear me clearly now. That's a huge plus. The construction of the headset is decent. It's not quite as solid as the beyerdynamics, but it doesn't feel cheap either. The earcups are padded with a velvety fabric covering the foam donuts. The headband also is padded. I was able to wear them for a few hours without feeling discomfort. The controls on the headset are useful. The left earcup has a volume control, a mic on/off switch, and a switch that will toggle the Dolby effect. That last switch glows blue. The volume control beeps when you nudge it up or down, which is helpful because you can get a sense of where the volume is set before an explosion in-game blows your eardrums out.In all, this is a solid product. It looks decent and doesn't have all the hype graphics and extraneous endorsements that some competing products have. It really is a form-follows-function headset.I'm glad to have had the chance to use and review it. Given how well the microphone works, I'll probably check out their Bluetooth earpieces if I ever decide to get one of those.Recommended as a great value at the price point.

I've used these for a month now and I've concluded they're perfect! I enjoy the full, powerful sound that comes from the LARGE and HIGH QUALITY drivers in this headset. The quality invested in the 40mm drivers makes all the difference.Music: my previous headset was a $35 corded stereo Philips headset. As much of a step up as those were from earbuds, the Plantronics 780 is just as big a jump in quality from the Philips. These far exceed the quality of $120 Turtlebeach headphones I've tried. Best I've heard.Surround Sound: (IMPORTANT)The 7.1 simulated surround sound is perfect. Don't believe those that claim "true surround sound" achieved by multiple drivers in each earphone is in any way superior. Your perception of the direction and distance of a sound is due to the difference in pitch, volume, and arrival time of the sounds in each ear. That's why having one large and high quality driver for each ear paired with sophisticated computer software to subtly alter pitch, volume and arrival time is the best surround experience you can get.Gaming: If you play a scary game with these on, wear adult diapers. If you play a competitive shooter (I played Blacklight Retribution) you're going to really appreciate the HD gunshots.Microphone: The flexible microphone arm is a MUST. An appropriate distance of the mic to your mouth (1 inch) makes the biggest difference in recording quality. I used it to voice record an audio book. The results sounded like I used a $60 dedicated microphone. With a little noise filtering in Audacity it might have been recorded on a $90 dedicated mic.Comfortability: I'm a big guy with a big cranium and a long neck. Most headphones strain my neck with their cumbersome weight and compress my skull with their small size. These are comfortable in comparison, though I still adjust them on my head a couple of times an hour. I appreciate the felt earphones breathing instead of sticking to my skin.Build Quality: If you don't want lint on them, don't drag them over wool blankets or through a field of foxtails. In a normal computer environment, they shouldn't have lint. These are sturdy and light at the same time. They look good, too.Overall, these are one of the best purchases I've made. The value and quality are tops. I can't imagine ever wanting an upgrade.

These headphones are amazing! I have used them for multiple purposes. I work as a IT Help Desk agent. I have used so many other types of reasonably priced headphones and had so many complaints. The GameCom 780's are just great. They are very comfortable. Still not pillows on your ears but very comfortable (4/5), The appear to be amplified. I can actually hear the people when I used these for incoming calls at work. The surround sound is just ok. I mean I can see how they appear to be 5.1 and I know they are advertised as 7.1--but honestly they sound like a really nice stereo headset. I don't know if I would call them surround sound but I guess they are. When you press the Dolby button on the front-left-side, it turns blue and adds what I would refer to as "a really nice Dolby effect". It gives everything and open ambient sound, almost hollow but not quite empty. Still the sound quality is pretty nice. Clear Highs, mids, and nice lows (not overpowering). I have used them for gaming, and media as well. Sound-wise I would give these (4/5). The mic seems to work great. It is not noise cancelling and will pick up everything in the room. You may need to adjust it's setting, but it does work really well. It also flexes into position and swivels up/down. It is not removable and the cord is attached to it's base. The mic I would give (4/5). The head phone cups do swivel back, but with the way they flex on the headband--I honestly don't see why you would use that feature. I have been a professional Hip-Hop DJ for 15 years and I can see that they were trying to adapt the same feature found in DJ headphone, but the design somehow seems too rigid and clumsy. The cord seems strong and the headphones themselves seem fairly well made. Again, quality wise I would give them (4/5). The cord is fairly long but I use a desktop mounted powered USB hub that they plug into.I would definitely recommend these to a friend. For the price, they are fantastic!

We own five of these, so that right there should tell you quite a bit about how we feel about this headset. Are you going to get studio quality sound out of these? Of course not - they're meant to be a basic headset/microphone for use with a computer, with an emphasis towards voice quality since the microphone boon implies that these will be used with products like Skype, TeamSpeak, Ventrilo and the like.I think these deliver excellent sound for the price, both incoming through the headphones and outgoing through the mic. Those I chat with say my speech is clear and ungarbled, easy to hear without constant changes in volume. I'm able to hear voices, or music, quite nicely through these.I also will mention - I have very small ears, and finding earbuds or headphones that I can wear comfortably is a HUGE issue for me. These are the only headphones I've found that I can actually wear for several hours without trouble. My husband, who has more normal sized ears, says they are very comfortable for him as well.I really like the boom mic on this headset, too - I like that I can position it as needed, and easily move it out of my way when it's not needed. I've had a few headsets where it felt like the mic boom was somehow "pulling" the headset forward with its weight - something I never understood, I mean, just how heavy does a mic really need to be?? These don't give that sensation at all... they feel very balanced. These do have a fairly tight fit on the head. It's easy enough to stretch them out a bit simply by putting them over the arm of a sofa (or something similar) overnight. As long as you wear them somewhat regularly after that, they'll maintain the stretched sizing. If unused, they will go back to being nearly as tight as they were at time of purchase... that might actually be a bonus to some buyers. It's of course a simple matter to stretch them again if needed. So yes, we like these so much we own five sets. We use them with all of our computers/laptops, and it gives us spares for when a set eventually gives out.We consider these to be an excellent product for the price. We're definitely getting good value out of them.

Before owning these I owned Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 and Corsair Vengeance 2000. I'm a big fan of wireless headsets, and went back to corded headsets only because I had to ask myself - was it worth the extra money? For me, it wasn't. For whatever reason I probably destroy a headset every 18 months, so they don't last super long in my house.Suffice to say this is a good product when compared to Logitech and Corsair. I think the Corsair was more comfortable. The Logitech got too hot for my ears. I think I prefer cloth it doesn't get as hot when you play hours-on-end like I do. I had these for a few days now and I did find that my ears did hurt a bit from wearing them too long. Also the cord to this headset is always getting in my way - I wish it was a bit longer and didn't have the kinks & crimps in the cable from the plastic cable. I'm not sure how to describe that - the cable isn't perfectly straight, from being wound up it comes out all kinked when you try to straighten it. A minor issue and maybe I can fix if I hang up the headset & cord over a door for a few days but I don't have time for that.Aside from those minor issues, in which it loses 1 star, I think the sound quality is great. No complaints. For the cost, it's pretty reasonable on Amazon at around $54 - which is half of what I spent on the Logitech and still a savings over the Corsair. The problem with wireless headsets is that if you are an avid gamer you are charging them all the time - and if you forget to charge it, and try to play the next day often you are playing with a corded headset because it is charging while you are playing. Also the battery life of wireless is good, but it degrades over time. What starts as a good 8 hour battery a year later is a good 5 hour battery. If you play games, like I do, all night, you want 8+ hours of gaming uninterrupted, which is why I went back to corded headsets. But, to each their own.

The first thing I noticed about these headphones was the solid feel that they had. They aren't heavy but feel solid. The cord seems like a standard USB cable to me which is heavier than most headphone cables and therefore should last longer as well. On the left earphone you have an attached microphone, mute switch, volume rocker switch, and Dolby activation button with LED indicator. Some headphones that I have used in the past seemed to rest enough on my earlobes to make them hurt after a while. That does not happen with these headphones. Each side swivels allowing them to lay perfectly flat on your head. They totally cover my ears with their velvety padding resting comfortably on my noggin. I can wear these for hours comfortably without them bothering me. They are not totally enclosed allowing you the ability to hear sounds around you still. That may be a good or bad thing; it comes down to personal preference. The instructions said to plug the headphone in and then install the software. That is the opposite of what you usually do for a USB device. Then when you go look at the USB plug it is covered with a sticker that says to install the software first. That is a pretty crappy mistake to be making in your already minimal documentation. One part I was unsure of was how you were supposed to configure the headphones to be sure you were getting the proper simulated surround sound effect. The software that installs only has Dolby on and off along with a Mode setting for Game/Movie or Music. I wrote to Plantronics and asked the following and got this reply fairly quickly.Question:If you go to the speaker icon down by the clock in Windows 7, right click the icon, select playback devices, select the GameCom headset, click the configure button below, does 7.1 need to be selected here or doesn't it matter?Answer:Yes, to get the full 7.0 surround sound it needs to be configured for 7.1.So that is another area that the documentation could have been improved. As far as the sound produced I think it is not bad but could be improved. The Dolby effect doesn't really impress me and for a lot of things I think it sounds better with it turned off. I don't notice an improved surround effect vs. other regular headphones. It just seems to add an echo effect to me. Also the overall sound while sounding good is relatively flat sounding. If the software had an equalizer I think it would add a lot to how these could sound. Don't misinterpret that as they sound bad, I still think they sound good overall. Turned up to their max they are louder than you'd want to experience for an extended period of time and have minimal distortion.Overall I would recommend these headphones for their decent sound and high comfort level. I don't think I am the only one asking for some kind of equalizer to be added to the software so hopefully Plantronics can implement it down the road in an update.

I bought the plantronics GameCom 780 headset to be used with video-making on my YouTube channel. I was a little skeptical of the headset as it was only 50$ but seemed to be good quality and have dolby surround sound. But I took the chance, and GEE I am happy I did.My headset came in about 3-days time (regular shipping!), it was very nicely packaged with some bubble-wrap and was in its factory shipped box. When I opened up the box everything was perfect, nothing seemed to be broken. It took me about 1 minute in total to download the software for the surround sound and hook the headset in. It uses a USB cord, so it can be used with your ps3, but the mic is not compatible with the ps3, only the sound. The side buttons help a TON. When a family member walks in on me, I can quickly mute my mic with the buttons on the left cup. The volume control is also very smooth and works nicely, as when you raise the volume there is a sound and vice versa. The surround sound button turns a light blue when you turn it on and makes a "ding dong" sound when it is turned on.Overall it is a great headset, mine is still in perfect condition.Pros:- Buttons on ear-cup are VERY helpful- The ear cups are plush and have a velvet feel, they are thick making long gaming sessions, or work sessions a walk on the beach.- The USB cord makes it very easy to switch to and from consoles or computers.- The surround sound works amazing- The wiring, and overall headset is of high quality, and feels strong.Cons:- The velvet-ish fabric on the ear muffs does collect dust/hair so I suggest having a clean enviorment or a lint brush. Its not a major detail but some people like it clean. My rating? 5/5

It's hard to be the voice of discontent against so many positive reviews, but I didn't find this headset to be all that others claim it to be and ended up sending it back and replacing it with a pair of Logitech G35's.I've been using a pair of Sennheisers for the last 7 years and I thought that technology had gotten to the point where I could invest in something that would go beyond stereo at a reasonable price. I'm a frugal man, so after seeing so many positive reviews, I went with this pair of headphones. The first thing I noticed when I got the item was that the ear cups are much smaller than any previous "over-the-ear" headphones I've ever owned or used. My ears are not abnormally large, but I had to finesse my ears to fit inside the cups and I found it uncomfortable. By contrast, my Sennheisers fit completely over my ears with room to spare, so does the Logitech G35's ear cups. The small ear cups were my #1 reason for returning this headset.Sound quality was OK, but not awesome. I'm no audiophile, but I guess I've been spoiled by my Sennheisers, because the sound in these headphones wasn't noticeably better in any way. Also, the surround sound just didn't sound very pronounced or obvious. I was really hoping that this would give me the feeling of full immersion in my games, but I could barely tell if there was any surround sound at all. In defense of Plantronics, my Logitech G35s provide the same limited amount of "surround sound", so I suppose this is common with low-end 5.1/7.1 headphones.I will admit that if your audio experience has been limited to desktop speakers or simple headsets, then this will absolutely blow you away. This pair of headphones sounds WAY better than my desktop speakers by a long shot. For the price, they are a very nice sound option. Just be aware of the small ear cups, as that's the one and only real thing I can fault them on. I probably would've kept these had they been made larger.

Ужасно
The sound is great, and the build quality is.. it's acceptable somewhat. But the most frustrating thing is the lack of support. Here are the known issues.1. The poor design of the drivers does not allow the setting to stay at 7.1 surround sound. Meaning each time you turn on your computer, you would have to go in and reset it back to 7.1 because it will automatically reset back to default each time you turn off your computer.2. Looking for their drivers for this product on their website is extremely difficult. If you type "780 drivers", you will get 4 results and for whatever reason, all of them will give you information about the product, but none of them will have the drivers. You have to click on one of the top two links and inside the link, there will be a second search box. You have to select "how to" in the article type, and then type 780 drivers again on the second search box and it will do one of two things.1. it will finally take you to the link to download the latest driversor2. It will send you back out to the main page of the websiteJust for the hell of it, I've tried replicating this method 10 times, and only the first time I actually got the link. All the other times it sent me out to the main page again and again.3. Again, driver issues. When plugging the headset into the computer, it does not always recognize it. In fact, my computer recognizes it about every other try.I bought in on all the great reviews for this product, but I am left sorely disappointed. The sound is great, but the poor coding of the drivers and the cumbersome website for driver support are a deal killer. I cannot recommend this plantronics headset or any plantronics items to anyone.

I have been a Razer Carcharias for the last two years, which I loved dearly. It was comfortable and sounded better than the cheap logitech headset I was using. After being used for so long, the right speaker started to fade and give out. I was forced to go out and buy something else.At first I considered getting another Carcharias but decided I might as well look into other stuff only because I wanted something louder than the Carcharias (Which was always my complaint with them since I got them. I like to blare music until MY EARS BLEED.)I was THIS |--| close to getting the Razer Tiamat 7.1. Right before I clicked "order" on the final checkout page I decided to search through one more round of reviews. That is when I found someone linking to this headset. It has almost universal acclaim in the reviews, and certainly higher than the Tiamat. AND it's a fraction of the cost with similar features. So let me get to it. This thing, is great. If you are coming to this from a Carcharias, I can tell you that you will notice the increase in sound quality, louder speakers and a better Mic. It comes packaged with a CD that has the software that is used for the virtual 7.1 surround (which sounds pretty darn good.).Build quality is nice and the frame feels sturdy and not cheap. It is also quite comfortable for long gaming sessions. Music can get LOUD on this thing, which is nice :]My ONLY dislike about this is that is has a rubber USB cable and not a threaded cable like most Razer products have. My experience in the past has been that most rubber cables eventually start to rip.I do have some comfort in the fact that it feels like a much more sturdy and thicker rubber on this cable than say the thin and flimsy coating on the iPhone/iPad USB cables. Only time will tell if it will begin rip with regular use.
