If you're looking for a mid range headset, that isn't wireless, you have found the best their is, for the price that's offered. I have used these for less than 10 hours as I'm typing this so my review will be fresh and concise.This comes with a cd installation for drivers. I recommend against using it. I tried using it the first time and the program was unresponsive. Instead, go to Plantronics website, and look for the latest drivers for this headset. I believe that's what helped it work after restarting my computer twice to get the damn thing to make sound.The comfort is incredible. It's like having two satin cushions gripped to each ear. I could wear this out in the winter cold and feel great. The cord is so far so good. It's fairly long, I did not need to completely untangle it. It doesn't seem to coil easily which is good. The mic is nice and clear but be warned, if you try to mic test you may not hear yourself, at least I can't.If you can't afford a wireless headset, but you want to upgrade from your desktop mic, or old plastic headset this is definitely a great buy, thanks Plantronics.

I've heard mixed reviews on this headset. Some people don't like the surround sound and sure, it takes some getting used to because it's simulating surround sound -- not actually creating a multi-point speaker system.I've been using this to play games, watch youtube movies and even product reviews here on Amazon.I have nothing but great things to say about them. I'm not a sound expert but the surround sounds is surprisingly effective. I use them with surround sound with games like Battlefield 3 and you can tell the orientation of the sound. For example, if the sound is suppose to be behind you to the left, you can tell enough in this headset to orientate your character.I think for the price, these are excellent.Are there better headsets out there than this? I'm sure but nothing even close +$20 in this price range. When I say better, think a $200 pair!I currently have them plugged in to a USB hub because I goofed on the computer I build -- I got a motherboard that doesn't have matching headers for the USB on the case. Nevertheless, the headset works fine plugged in to the powered USB hub.

The Headset is very comfortable, as the earcups fit completely over my ears and cause no ear pain. If you have very large ears, you might not have the same experience as me. There is also a nice thick foam-like pad under the head-piece which feels quite nice. The sound is fantastic, although I can take or leave the synthetic dolby surround. That's just me, you may love it. The mic sounds great, or so my fellow game players tell me, because I am unable to monitor the mic output. If I click on "listen to this device" in "microphone properties", I get a horrible delay (like 0.5 seconds) which is so distracting I'm unable to talk. This may be a Windows issue, I'm not really sure, but in game play it makes no difference to me whether I can hear myself over the microphone. As I said, the folks I'm playing with tell me the mic sounds very good and my words are easily understandible. Again, if you have Windows 7 you will probably have to turn off the microphone monitor and just trust that your words are being heard. I went back and forth with the Microsoft people and the Plantronics people, and we we're unable to solve this issue. The mic lag occurs in all my audio programs with this headset. IF ANYONE IS ABLE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM IN WINDOWS 7 PLEASE RESPOND TO MY POST. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.The headset can't be beat for listening to movies or music, and is probably the equal to more expensive headphones. Although the headset has several plastic components, it seems pretty rugged, and the USB wire is a very thick gauge.

I purchased this to replace a set of real 5.1 (not software\virtual) Turtle Beach headphones that I had to keep repairing until they broke for good. I do not have lots of cash money, so I did not feel comfortable spending $100+ for a set of gaming headphones. As you can see from the four stars I gave it, after two weeks of ownership, I am happy with my decision!The Good:Looks and feels WAY more sturdy than my last set of surround sound headphones.Sound is crisp, clear, and allows you to hear cues you would never hear on normal stereo headsets.More comfortable than my last set.Inexpensive! Here on Amazon, I got it for an amazingly low price! I do not have to eat ramen for a week to make up for a huge purchase!The Not-So-Good:Not quite as comfortable as I would prefer. This is a very minor gripe, as I tend to play for very long chunks at a time (squeezed in between work, family, boring grown-up stuff, etc), so when I do play, it tends to be for yadda yadda yadda hours at a time. I am embarrassed to say how long, as you may judge me to be anti-social....With that said, I reckon that it may be a blessing in disguise that my ear lobes start to feel a minor amount of stress after about five hours or so.The microphone seems to be just merely okay. You cannot adjust it to make it closer or farther away from your mouth, which is slightly annoying. I prefer having my mic REALLY close to my mouth so I can turn it down a bit so it picks up less background noise. This one seems like it picks up more ambient noise than my last set.Another issue is that even though it is virtual 7.1, the sound is not quite as distinct as my Turtle Beach 5.1. Also, there is no way to adjust the levels, so you cannot have more bass if you desire.Conclusion: I could not give this set 5 stars simply from the fact that you cannot adjust the sound levels, but I would have to say that I would purchase this thing again because of the excellent price, the crisp sound, and the sturdy design!

This headset is a great sounding headset with many features including great surround sound-like features. It tends to be a great set for team chats and generally comfortable, but after a long time of usage, it does cause some headaches.That being said, the headset can be a pain when working with anything other than windows 7 (or probably earlier). I found that the driver for this headset can cause windows 8 to crash every once in a while and disconnect and reconnect. On a mac, it is way too loud to use and generally distorts even on the lowest volume. (I even learned the keyboard shortcut for doing volume in 4ths to try to get a lesser volume). I haven't tried this headset on Linux, however the dependency on the driver for surround sound would mean that surround wouldn't be available on anything other than windows.Pros:-good sounding with drivers-on board volume control and mute-comfort at firstCons:-headaches with long usage-usb only-disconnecting loops in windows 8-problems with os's other than windows 7--too loud on mac--crashes on windows 8--lack of driver support on Linux or mac

I bought these with the requirements of comfortable extended wear (8-10 hours) clear voice communication in a call center environment and the ability to use for games on my days off. These fail in all categories. First they are NOT comfortable for extended wear. They have a plastic head band making stretching these things to fit correctly impossible without damage to the plastic headband. The surround sound is fun to play with, but it does not compare to a proper dolby headphone surround sound. The sounds are muted compared to my HD7's. The sound leak is awful and distracting unless you have the volume turned up high to drowned out your environment. If these were semi-open or open headphones, then okay, but they are closed back headphones. There is no excuse to have that much noise leak. The padding feels nice, but squishes so much that my ears were painfully pressed against the drivers making wear more than two hours uncomfortable. Also the mic picks up every wind from your breath, turning your head, fan, and kills the guy on the other end if you touch it to adjust it. I had the sensitivity turned down to 10 in the sound options. No it does not noise cancel at all. If someone speaks within 20 feet the mic picks up the whole conversation. Annoying and not good. Do not buy this headset, it is not worth even trying at this price. Maybe $30 or $20. For $60 buy some HD7's and glue a cheap mic to it.I am rating this 2 stars in hopes more people will read my review, but honestly unless you want something that you are only going to wear for about a hour at a time, sound quality is not a concern, and your environment is quite with no moving air, stay away.

I bought these headsets because I needed a Plantronics headset for work. I work from home and the company that i work with wanted me to have a Plantronics headset. It didn't have to be a USB headset. I was not trying to spend money on another USB headset when I already own a really nice Logitech USB headset. I ended up just using the Logitech headset instead because the Audio 355 just wasn't strong enough in a virtual desk environment. I wouldn't recommend using this headset with software such as a VMware Player. I'm running Windows 8 on a brand new Dell Desktop but in the VMware Player, I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise. This headset doesn't work well in the player but on the host side (Windows 8) it seems to work a little better. The sound coming through the headset is extremely low. I'm technically savvy so I know that there isn't an issue with my computer plus it's brand new. I also noticed that these headsets have poor sound quality when using them with any Adobe Connect rooms. I'm always having to run the Audio Wizard. I'm definitely going to stick with my Logitech headsets for now on.

I purchased this to replace my Logitech G35 that after a couple of years use snapped unexpectedly. This headset compared favorably on paper and it was less expensive, so I gave it a try. Unfortunately, I returned it before the end of the night, because I could not get it to stop making snapping and popping noises, even with the latest drivers. It was very disappointing.I had no such problems with the G35. Also, the fabric used in the headphones was itchy, so it was not comfortable to wear for a long time.If had worked, it would have been a nice headset: unlike the G35, it does not feel like it would snap off any cheap plastic due to normal use. However, the cord is a little short and wimpy compared to the G35, so you may need an extension to get to the back of your desktop computer. It is a lot lighter than the G35, which is good, but it may be a bit small for some heads.I did not test the microphone, since it did not perform its other basic function of producing noise-free sound to my ears.

My best friend bought me these for Christmas after about a year of me being reluctant to upgrade from the built in mic in my laptop. I use these for a lot of casual gaming and skype calls. I'll highlight the few cons they have, and then talk about the pros.Cons:-Very slight discomfort after extended use-When you turn on surround sound in a skype, mumble, etc. call it sounds echoy-the padding gets kinda lintyPros:-Very comfortable-fits all head sizes-Great sound-surround sound works great (I've been using it for League of Legends, Far Cry 3, Gmod, Etc.)-Best at price point-Better than most above the price-very reliable-music and movies sound great-All in all great headsetBuy this headset.**IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS 8**to install the surround sound drivers, you need to run the install program on the disc in windows 7 compatibility mode.plantronics has yet to release a windows 8 driverI use them on windows 8 though and they work fine. The install is a tiny bit inconvenient(~15 minutes), but after the install they work like a charm

I purchased these headphones because I was looking for a set that would have fairly good sound quality and a good microphone. I already own a very good set of headphones that did not have a mic so I didn't want to spend too much.The Plantronics are a pretty solid set of headphones for the price, and the microphone is very clear. I use these mainly with c3 which is a voice chat program designed for use with games (Guild Wars 2 int his example). The cord on the headphones is USB, and I saw some various complaints in some of the reviews about this, and about issues with the software. I am using Windows 7 64bit, and upon plugging these in the drivers downloaded and everything worked. They work seamlessly with c3 and with all of my games. The microphone is very clear, and the sound is great quality. The cord is a little shorter then it could be, but it is long enough to plug into the front usb port of my desktop on the floor. The plastic does feel a little cheap, but they seem to be solid and are fairly comfortable to wear for a few hours at a time. Also of note, there were a few reviews with people saying these weren't comfortable on medium sized heads. I dont know what they are talking about, they arent quite as comfortable as my sennheisers, but they are plenty comfortable to wear for hours at a time. Overall I'd definitely recommend these to anyone looking to spend under 60 dollars on a decent set. I purchased the headset a few months back and use quite often... Thought I will just mention my thoughts thru Pros and Cons :PROS:1. Great to turn the TV down when husband needs a hearing aide and denies that fact... Meaning, if he has on level 44, I put this on and gets volume down to a comfortable level for my ears by drowning out some of the volume...2. I can listen to music/videos on laptop...3. Wonderful sound quality...4. Has a little area for volume control/mute on the cord.. Love this feature :) ...5. When listening to music/videos, I DO NOT have a problem hearing sounds in surrounding area... Meaning regular car sounds, etc.6. Great product, worth every penny....CONS:1. I have to plug in the correct one into a specific hole on laptop or else I have NO sound... Don't quite understand that one..2. It hurts the area above my ears just a bit... Can't quite figure that one out yet..I did not give 5 stars because of the tiny uncomfortability above my ears....

I bought the gamecom because they came highly recommended to record some LPs. The sound quality is great, some headphone's might get better sound but I don't think you will find a headset with higher quality. The 7.1 is sort of a gimmick but regardless the "surround sound" adds quite a bit to both games and movies as well as music (I listened to a FLAC rip of a Queen, it was absolutely mind blowing after listening to it on my laptop speakers).The Mic is a little sensitive, it will pick up your fan if its blowing at you from across the room, but in the proper recording environment it will pick up your voice great, it is very clear, and you don't have to speak up.As for quality I managed to break mine, one of the ear pieces snapped off but a little bit (a lot) of duct tape fixed it because the product it self as a whole still works. Don't let this deceive you, they fell off my bunk bed at college and in my mess while looking for them I accidentally stepped on them. I do believe plantronics will replace them for free if I ship them back, but I am being lazy. I've been traveling with them a lot and eventually the plastic around the cord broke, but the cord it self still works. If you have a stationary machine, this will not be a problem for you.

I bought these simply because I needed a headset for Skype and wanted some that I could use for gaming and give my fiancee peace while I play games. After some searching these had the nice price/performance/review combo I liked. First off they're well made and are a bit bulky, though still light. The sound quality is good, though there's no real driver feature for them in Windows and any configuration is done through the Windows Sound Control Panel, which isn't a negative for me. More or less these present themselves to Windows as a generic 7.1 surround audio device, Windows sends it the encoded sound and the software in the headphones themselves do the rest. The surround effect is bizarre if only because they're coming from headphones as opposed to a bunch of speakers. The effect works, though the separation isn't all that strong.It uses an algorithm to figure out how to fool your brain into thinking the sound from things in front or rear are actually there by shifting the pitch, exact timing of how different sound channels reaches the ear, etc. Of course that means the strength of the effect is different for different people due to the shape of their ears, ear canal, hearing loss, etc. and while the Windows control panel allows some tweaking it doesn't allow the level of tweaking it might need.Overall a good purchase and it makes games come to life. For Skype they're overkill and my only complaint is after a few hours they crush my ears, though I have a large head so your mileage my vary.

I used the same Sennheiser headset I got for $80 for 8 years. My cat hopped on my lap and happened to bite through the cord. After trying to splice and re-solder it I just couldn't get it to work without problems.I then was recommend the 780 and saw positive reviews for the 780. Being impressed with it's price I ordered right away. The sound has been good, but I get a popping/crackle sound here and there especially in VOIP. My biggest disappointment is the noise cancellation for the mic. No matter what I've tried, I cannot get rid of a hiss which makes it hard to have an open mic for streaming/recording.The durability seems great. Having a single USB connection, onboard volume and mute switches are nice. It fits too tightly on my head and becomes uncomfortable for long time use. It's also primarily for when sitting upright as laying down in any fashion to watch something gets difficult.For casual use it will be sufficient, for frequent and long duration, though, I'm not so sure.

The headset arrived impressively packaged. There was a discrepancy in the instructions as the written instructions said to plug the headset in followed by driver install, but the USB plug had a warning to do it in the other order. I installed the software and then plugged in the device (as is standard practice for USB devices in my experience). I used a front tower USB port so the cord length was not an issue, however, if you plan to use a back panel USB port you will likely need a USB extension. This cord would not be described "long".The headset appears to be of quality construction and composed of quality materials. The mic is sturdy and the cord hardy. There was no "shirt rubbing" feedback from the braided cord asI have experienced in other headphones. The controls are located on the left headphone itself. I think I would prefer at least the the mic mute on the actual cord so it is more easily accessible, but this is not a big issue.I am no audiophile but the 7.1 sound (while gaming) seemed somewhat impressive. I am not sure if I am getting true 7.1 or just simulated. I have no complaints on the richness of the sound at all. The mic sounds great and works well with voice activation. The headset claims to be noise cancelling, I am not sure about that, I was a bit surprised how well I could hear room noise with them on considering the size of the cans and the "noise cancellation". I am taking off a half star for that.The other half-star demerit comes from the comfort standpoint. As others have reported the actual can size is a touch small, my ears (standard size ears, I think) are slightly too large for the cups. Not by much and it doesn't really bother me, but it is noticeable. Finally they are a bit tight (I wear a 7 1/8 fitted cap so a medium head). After a couple hours they start to annoy you a bit. There is no severe discomfort, but it enough so that if there is break in the action you are compelled to remove them for a bit.Overall I am satisfied or even pleased. At this price point I would think these would be hard to beat.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the high frequencies on these are too loud and harsh? Also, be aware, as others have said, the ear cups are sort of square shaped and not oval as you might expect. This is fine for me because my ears are small enough to fit inside, but for others, I can see this might be a problem. The cord is a little annoying (thin but stiff) but not a deal breaker.The software needs an EQ. If I can't get the high end adjusted down, I might not be able to continue using these. It's that sharp and loud for me. Still need to dig into Windows sound adjustments to see if I can get this fixed.The headset hurt my head for about the first hour or so of use, then they felt much better, and are so light, I hardly notice. My ears don't get too hot, even after 3+ hours straight.Likes: Light weight, controls are easy to adjust once you get used to them, price is great, they look nice.Dislikes: Harsh loud high end sounds, ear cups might not be big enough (square vs. oval) for some people.

Macs require USB-powered headsets. Mine broke so I thought I'd upgrade to a more solid design. Enter the GameCon 780.First of all, I already knew going in the software wouldn't work. I don't really require surround sound. What they don't tell you is that, while the headset does function, it is not at all usable. The reason for this is the alarming sound levels. My guess (Plantronics tech support was unable to confirm this) is that Mac USB jacks are amplified.Even with the sound at the bare minimum (holding option-shift and lowering the volume on the keyboard to 1/4 of one bar) I have to turn down sound levels for things like youtube videos. Everything is just way too loud.I've used other "Windows-only" headsets and they work flawlessly with my Mac. I think that true plug-and-play headsets would be fine. To me, this is not plug-and-play because it requires the software drivers to function nominally. I wish I had considered this before purchasing.If you're on a PC, this headset should be just fine for most things. I like the sturdy design, and the price point is attractive. But if you're on a Mac, look elsewhere.

Good set of headphones for PC communications. I use it with VOIP for my phone calls and I use it for listening to music. Both are fine.The headphone is comfortable and fits well. It is also adjustable. It can feel a bit heavy compared to a lighter set that just rests on the ears, but this set is designed to wrap around your ears to eliminate a lot of outside noise.The one ding is the set up and actual use of the physical controls. I find that somehow I keep putting the phone set on either mute or the off setting, and I have to figure out if it's Windows that's not playing sound correctly or that the controls on the headset have again turned the thing off. (The controls are located in such a position that it is extremely easy to accidentally adjust them when you pick them up from your desk.) As there is (as far as I know) no onscreen control panel to show you the current state of the headset and its controls, you have to fumble around with the controls on the headset to figure out if you've done something wrong.

A few things I wanted to share...First, the software Plantronics provides from their website and the included CD is not Windows 8 ready. To get it to execute you can right click it and choose properties, then set it to Windows 7 compatibility mode to get it to install. Without this installation you will not get the dolby surround sound and these will be reduced to a great set of stereo cans.Second is that the sound is milky smooth for this price point. They have a very solid bottom end, and a full midrange. On most headphones when you're listening to music you can discern a clear difference between when the crossovers are switching from the low end hardware to the top end. These have an almost flat response completely through the range of bass to treble.The net effect of great surround sound and a very flat response is that it's very easy to get sucked in on games. With these on you can easily get lost in the jungles of Crysis or alien worlds of Borderlands. You hear the rustle of footsteps behind you, and can easily determine direction solely from audio cues. It's a totally different and superior experience from playing with stereo speakers or headset, and definitely worth the mid-range price.

Excellent headset. I am not going to rehash the excellent reviews that this product has already received. Instead I will focus on some limitations I have come across:1. Avoid using with older computers - I am using this on an a 5 year old Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz Cpu (T7400) Alienware laptop with a 3GB RAM/128 GB SSD, and I often get a salt and pepper noise added to any sound. Happens most often when watching netflix/hulu/you tube videos. Rarely with Spotify. The same does not happen when plugged to my faster desktop machine, so it appears to be performance related.2. The driver installation package crashes when launching the installer on Windows 2008 R2 (X64) server. I know this device is not officially supported on that OS, but for the rare few of us running home theater systems on a free academic license of the server OS, you are out of luck. You can manually install the drivers by launching the installer, which will expand the drivers under a Plantronics folder under Program files (x86) (and keep the crash message window open), and use device manager to point to the folder to update the drivers. I was able to get 7.1 surrounding working this way (otherwise you will only get stereo sound with the default windows drivers), but without the package installed, you can't enable Dolby.

So I am a casual gamer, but I game with my friends and we voice chat while we play. I previously owned a Logitech G330 headset, which was about $30 six months or so ago. After owning it for a while, I found it to be uncomfortable, and started shopping for a new headset.I read the reviews on this headset, and they are absolutely correct. Basically, here's the short and sweet:pros:* Excellent sound quality, surround sound is super awesome. This headset has changed the way I listen to music.* Comfortable, although I've never owned a headset that's over-the-ear, and it's taken a bit of getting used to. Not worth taking a star off for.* everythingCons:* The mic doesn't cancel background noise as well as my previous headset, my friends have told me.* SLIGHTLY uncomfortable, but I wear this headset about 4-6 hours/day, listening to music, studying, and gaming. After 6 hours, it's just slightly uncomfortable. I almost just deleted this con because it's slight, but I think you should know about it before you buy it.Seriously, I got this headset for $60, and it's amazing. I feel like it should be valued at $150 for the quality. I also really like the retro squarish look of the thing.Basically, my brothers-- buy this headset. When I bought it, there were no "OMG TERRIBLE" reviews, because it's simply an amazing headset. I looked at some other $100, $120 headsets, and many had a few reviews that called the headset garbage. Not the Gamecom 780, bro. If you're thinking about it, unless it's financially irresponsible, buy it.

I was a little hesitant to purchase this headset because I'm just not a huge fan of the brand, to be frank. Let me assure you that you should go ahead and buy this right now! I'm a pretty serious gamer and these are a complete revelation for me. I had no idea headsets could be this good.It was probably a week before I actually used the little application that comes with the headset. There is a setting for music and a setting for games/movies; the default is music which is not what you want unless you really want to listen to music. There is also a check box for using Dolby that the manufacturer claims will make it sound like Dolby 7.1 surround. Boy, does it deliver and I cannot be more emphatic about this fact! You really have to hear it to believe it!Youtube videos, Netflix shows, games, you name it, it sounds amazing! I bought this headset based on the price, the microphone feature, and it looked comfortable. After using it for the past two weeks, I can recommend this headset based on the sound quality, the comfort during prolonged wear, locating the buttons on the headset proper instead of using an inline dongle, the solid build quality that you can feel, and the attractive design. I'm really impressed and I'm thinking about buying another one or two just to have on hand in case they go out of production. They are really that good. Plantronics has really come a long way from its days bundling its formerly-cheap products with any and every OEM PC builder. I can't wait to see what they have in store for the future models.

First off I am not an Audiophil by any means so I don't quite understand tech numbers and true quality sound at its most basic form but what I do understand is a quality gaming experience.The games I most play on are: DotA2(competitive), Guild Wars2, Portal and some other games here and there. For the longest time I struggled with finding some decent headsets that wouldn't cost me a fortune(considering the amount of travel I do with them). I practice DotA2 while at work overnight on my laptop so I am constantly taking the headset in and out of the bag and what not. This headset is fantastic. My team is finally happy to hear me crystal clear and I am happy to hear them clearly. All the sounds sound pretty sick and the surround sound feature is pretty cool when playing FPS games. I recently found out that this is the official headset of dota, just with a different label on the top and I can see why Valve chose them. For the budget games, I HIGHLY recomend these and will continue to buy Plantronics in the future.

For years, I've fought my way through countless hoards of cyber-enhanced enemies in post-apocalyptic wastelands, laid waste to enemy castles and explored the vast reaches of interstellar space defending my ship from pirates and aliens whose names I could not pronounce. But never before was I able to hear the subtle nuances and all-important positional cues that could have saved hundreds of lives, including my own. Until now.As soon as I unboxed this headset and plugged it in, the walls of my room virtually melted away and my ears were treated to a sensational smorgasbord of surround sound! Crisp highs, clear midtones and rumbling lows that were heretofore impossible to perceive with the sad, wimpy headsets of gaming sessions gone by, seemed to come from all directions -- each according to its relative position in the world I was exploring. I must admit, my initial unfamiliarity with the Plantronics brand produced in me no small amount of skepticism as I read the reviews of other brave souls who had taken the plunge and plunked down the sixty dollars on this auditory marvel.I am by no means a stranger to the ways of the audiophile, having spent my youth around multi-track open-reel recorders, studio mixers and high-end monitors, with all the various and sundry noise-reduction, compressor/expander, multi-effects and other processing gear. Alas, I will admit hearing a few faint artifacts now and then, but this is a trivial matter by comparison and does not detract from the overall experience. If you, dear reader, are in the market for a superior headset at an extremely reasonable price, you would do well to stuff these into your electronic shopping cart forthwith!

UPDATE: 1-5-12After using this headset for a couple of days, I'm returning it for a refund. The price was great, but I couldn't stand the humming noise that would pop in every other minute for 5-10 seconds at a time. Some would say I'm sensitive to changes in sounds, and perhaps I am. I expect my headset to be silent when in use. Back to Fry's it goes!I'm sure everyone else has said what there is to be said about this headset. Sound quality is great, perhaps the best among all headsets I've tried in the past. I wasn't willing to pay full retail price for it, but couldn't resist when it dropped to $39.99 for the holidays. If there was one thing I'd change about this headset, it would be the way the wires are exposed on the side of the headset. I think it would've been better for Plantronics to shield these wires as they do with the 777's.One tip: Some people are experiencing noises/distortions every 5-10 seconds while listening to music tracks and whatnot. I've noticed this problem goes away when the software is installed or the headset is plugged into a USB 3.0 port. I was fortunate to discover upon replugging the headset into a USB 2.0 port that the problems went away.Hope that helps.

I picked this headset up on black friday for $50 and knew i would love it before i even got it. ive owned $150 turtle beach headsets that arent this good. the build quality blows every headset ive owned out of the water, i really dont feel like i need to worry about it breaking any time soon. its extremely comfortable too, when i first got it i didnt want to take it off because it was more comfortable than not having them on. the 7.1 isnt as good as i was expecting but there are definitely times in counter strike when its helped me clutch the round.pros:great build qualitygreat soundbetter than much more expensive headsetscomfortablelarge ear cupscontrols are on the left ear cup (opposed to on the cord like most headsets which can cause your headset to fall of the desk and break like my old ones.)the length of the cable is perfect. not so long that it will get caught on everything, and not so short that you are tethered to your computer.cons:only 2 speakers (simulated surround sound but its done really well)no bass control (its never felt lacking but sometimes you just want a lot of bass for music)this headset is perfect in my opinion, the cons arent even really cons but i felt like i needed to list something.

I'll break my review up into 3 parts.Microphone - 5 stars - works great, have had 0 issues. Don't have to talk loudly at all, just normal voice and it picks it up. The people I'm talking to never have to ask me to repeat what I'm saying.Sound - 3 Stars - Initially I would have given it a 4, but recently I've been getting some buzzing and static. Sometimes it lasts for 3 seconds, sometimes 30+ seconds. Very annoying. I guess I might expect this from a cheap pair of headphones, but not from this brand at this price.Comfort - 2 Stars - I have had worse, but again at this price I expected a lot more. Comfort is ok while I'm actually wearing them, but afterwards my ears are all red and will sometimes hurt (no I do not turn my volume up high, I usually have it on one of the lowest settings).I kinda wish I had bought a gaming headset at Best Buy for $100 becaue they looked super comfy, but they were out of my price range.

The square shape is starting to hurt the tops on my ears, since my ears are more oval shaped and not square. I don't think I have exceptionally large ears, but it makes me feel that way when I have to tuck them inside to make sure its comfortable.I like the red cord, because it doesn't blend it with other miscellaneous cords laying around. The volume wheel, mute switch, and dolby toggle button are nicely positioned on the left ear instead of having an inline box.The microphone is bendy and lets you position it how you want to, moving it in to a good position near your mouth doesn't seem of very much concern since the mic is so sensitive it will pick up everything in the room and probably the next room.The sound for games is good. For music or watching video not so good. The soundscape seems tailored for hearing footsteps and sound effects which are very clear. The bass and lower mid frequencies seem very dull which is, to me, very noticeable when listening to anything that isn't a game. You can toggle the dolby mode easily and it does sound great in games designed with dolby. If your listening to plain old stereo it gives everything a weird sound like it was recorded in an large bathroom. The software has settings for Game/Movie or Music, I can't tell a difference between the two.

Definitely not a 25-30 dollar headset - if you're planning on spending that much, avoid Plantronics altogethe - the company uses cheap materials and cheap designs. For a 20-30 dollar (including S&H) headset, I'd expect it to be sturdier and more, I don't know, robust. This feels like you might get it free with a refurbished laptop, or maybe a cheap headset from your local drug store photo department.Ok sound for the money, but very small ear cups, I ended up removing them altogether and customizing a larger pair from a dead headset to fit this one with some extra padding. The controls are incredibly low quality - small smooth volume wheel that really doesn't make much of a difference from high to low - and the mute toggle is rather small and isn't (very) easily switched - I ended up plastic-gluing a bead onto the mic switch so I could easily flip it with a finger rather than floundering around with it.

As a long time (just over a decade now) Plantronics headphones user, I was quite disappointed with these. My previous plantronics headphones (770 model) finally gave out, I thought I would be just fine getting these newer ones. If only I knew...These things have very poor wire shielding. If you talk loud enough or close enough to the mic, you can hear yourself in the headphones (and yes, this is with the option disabled in windows to hear yourself). Likewise, in voice communication software, if my mic was active and other people were talking, they would be able to hear themselves on my end (as if I had speakers feeding into the mic). I thought there was a small chance maybe something was wrong on my end, but after trying it on 4 different PC's (2 windows 7, 1 xp, and 1 ubuntu), I was able to confirm it was the headphones. Replacing them was easy enough since I had ordered direct from Plantronics. However, after the 3rd set that did the exact same things, I had to just go for a return instead.Even outside the poor wiring, you have to install the software if you want to control the volume controller decently on the headphones. I never use the surround setting they have, so the software seemed pretty pointless. Then you just have to worry about the software not screwing up and messing up the sounds. If I used the headphones without the software, everything sounds normal. Once I installed the software (on 3 windows machines) some sounds would be altered or choppy, such as the default Windows sounds (like changing folders).The 1 star is barely worth it, but I guess the headphones themselves are much sturdier than their predecessors.

I've had several headsets over the last 4 years, ranging in quality and price from 20-70 dollars usually, Some lasted 4-5months and some lasted 1-2months. I went to best buy and picked up the latest Razer Kraken Pro Headset and I had a ton of issues with it. It just wasn't the quality I wanted and the Mic wasn't working correctly on my desktop, even though my cheaper quality GAMESCON Mic worked just fine.So, I took the Razer Kraken Pro back and instead picked up the Gamescon and from the MOMENT I heard a song just after plugging in the new GamesCon780 headset, I could hear a dramatic difference. I was immediately pleased with the headset Versus the Kraken headset. N' of course, Gamescon didn't fail to let me down with an EXCELLENT Mic quality. Consider the Kraken's headset wouldn't even function correctly.The two best headsets I ever owned was a lesser version of Gamescon and now this one, by far worth the price and Gamescon will definitely be my choice for headsets from now on.

Comfort- Plush velvet earcups, wonderful on the ears but difficult to keep clean- Good size on the earcups. Should fit most (maybe not all) ears.- Snug fit- Adjustable, has about three extra notches. (pull the earcup down from the metal fixture)- Swivel earcups for taking breaks.Sound- Very nice surround sound. Definitely felt like I was in a room with all my Ordo buddies on TeamSpeak 3.- Some would say that it doesn't sound as good without the 7.1 surround, but I have no complaints for the headset without it. It's pretty decent.- Clean highs, mids, and lows all around. No interference or static.- Mic is good quality and also very clear.- Sound escape prevention could be better, but is not terrible. Much better than open speakers, for sure.Misc- Liked the USB. Good for not having to mess with any 3.5mm adapters with a Macbook- Easy-to-reach mic mute, sound adjust, and Dolby Digital toggle was a plus!- Dolby Digital 7.1 Surround software is for Windows alone. Wish there was a way to get it for Mac OS X as well!- Came with a quickstart manual. Never hurts.Overall? 4.9 out of 5. I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to friends. The price is just a little high, but worth its money. Best to get it now (at the time of this review or other discount while it's cheaper!)Will hopefully check back in a few months' time with reports on durability. Cord seems pretty thick, resistant to tangles, and resistant to breaks. I hope they stay that way.

This was my first gaming headset. It lasted for 2 years before the audio connection when bad, I blame my Asus Transformer table for that. The Female audio jack SUCK on the table.Anyway the product is well build except the audio connection and mic connection. You will have to be careful when handling it. The sound is VERY loud. Sometime I use it as an external speaker because the output was much loader than my phone. I got alot of attention when i wore thses. I plan to replace the audio with a better one. Hopefully that works out.Pros:SoundBuild qualityThe fact that the mic can hideComfortableCard lenghtIt will cover your ear if you have a big head like mine. :)Cons:audio connection and mic connection they are fragile!!!!The cups are a lint magnet. Will require cleaning about once a month.To me it would have been cool if the red parts glowed or light up.BTW I paid $30 for this at Brandmartusa in the Sawgrass Mall. I wouldn't pay $80 for this old product, sorry!! Its an investment well spent though.I gave it 4 Stars because of the audio connection and mic connection and it dont glove :P.

This headset is absolute garbage. Seriously, do NOT waste your money; if I could give it less than one star I would. The sound quality is atrocious, the headband squeezes the ear-pads far too tightly against your ears, and they appear to be made of some kitche-y plastic that is not in the least bit durable (the earpiece snapped off the headband when I dropped it from about 4 feet off the ground. I mean, come on, really?). I thought that if I went with a fairly well-known brand like Plantronics it would be a fairly safe bet; however, I can honestly say I couldn't be more disappointed. This absolute piece of trash headset has single-handedly ensured I will never, and I repeat, never, purchase another Plantronics product. I seriously have no idea how this company is still in business if this is the quality of the products they produce. Trust me, go with something a little more expensive; at the very least you're more likely to wind up with a better quality product.

I've only had this headset for a day, but it is performing beautifully. The headset looks very nice and adjusts easily. It feels a little tight at first, but it loosens up over time. The out-of-the-box experience is great: just install the software on the CD, plug in the headset, and it works immediately.I watched Tangled on Blu-ray with 7.1 surround sound, and the sound quality is fantastic. It's amazing what Dolby Headphone technology can do. It really sounds like my own home theatre system in my ears. Battlefield 3 sounds equally as good.As to the microphone quality, I've used it with Skype and my friends said my voice came through clear. The noise cancellation did a decent job as well.The controls on the headset work as expected. There is a button on the front of the left earcup to toggle Dolby Headphone virtual surround sound, a switch on the back to mute the microphone, and a digital volume dial on the back that changes the Windows master volume in increments of two steps and beeps to indicate the volume change.This headset is a steal for the price. It's great not only for gaming, but for movies too. Highly recommended.

I bought this headset as a replacement to my very, very nice FX Pro 7.1 headset. As I am a graduate student I do not have a lot of "green" in the bank so I decided to give these a try based on the reviews I had read (on Amazon and also Newegg). I hope my review will give some insight into how the title of this review is appropriate.Firstly, let me say that for 22 bucks, these are a decent deal. I'll break it down into 2 sections: Build quality and sound quality.Build Quality:These things seem to be pretty damn solid. The plastic doesn't feel like it is likely to break in my opinion. The set is rather large, mostly due to its earcups however I didn't really see this as a "con". The headset is actually very light and doesn't weigh on your ears/head which is really nice; increases wearability over a long period of time. It's a decently attractive headset too but this is really not much of a concern. The cord is nice; long enough and the covering is durable.Sound Quality:I think it's necessary to start this with a caveat. If you are using your onboard audio there is a possibility that you will not be happy at all with the sound these things produce. This was my case with the onboard audio with my Asus matx board. The mids and highs were very clear, but the lows were almost nonexistent. This left me wanting so much more. However, I had an old Xfi xtreme music lying around and I installed it to see if it made any difference. This made a world of difference. The bass is still not at the level of my previous headset, but I can at least feel the lows now.Conclusion:This headset with a proper dedicated sound card, or very good onboard audio actually produces nice clear mids and highs with fairly rich lows. The virtual surround that my XFi produces is very nice and the direction the headset produces is pretty damned good for a stereo headset.Is it worth the buy?if(you don't have a sound card && price == 20 bucks) yes;if(you do have a sound card) definitely yes;

The device itself is of high quality for sure, no doubt about that.Ear pads are comfy, metal brackets holding the ear cups are really sturdy, cord is sturdy aswell...Surround quality is near perfect, sense of direction is amazing. Moreover, anything I've played, and I play A LOT of games, this headset delivers great surround performance on them.If you're planning on listening to music or any stereo source though, I have to admit that these are not anywhere near audophile-grade. Though they aren't meant for that, so it's not a con for me.Only thing bothers me is the over-simplified software. There is this only option to turn dolby on or off. At least an equaliser would be available. Their software support is also not something I'dcall good. It's been months since Win8 rolled out and there isn't any compatible drivers with it. Of course you can still use the headphones on Windows 8 and Windows 8 recognises it as Gamecom 780but you can't use the dolby features.Overall, great product. One of the best surround headphones around. At this price nowadays, it's a no-brainer.

Had to replace my 8 year old Genius gaming headset, and it was an improvement in every aspect, just as expected from a brand like this, Think it lives up to the Plantronics brand (only used business products from them before):.- quality is very good: feels sturdy, hard plastic, good cushion, cable feels strong..-sound is also very good: i mean for this price, you cannot ask more. Of course it's not the same as some Bose or Sennheiser, but you get what you pay for. The Dolby driver you install is not so good... i can play with or withoout it with almost no difference. For music, you have to turn it off since will take out a lot of details and highs from the music..-very confortable: its heavy but not so much, you can use it for long gaming sessionsCons:.-cushions are kind of velvet, so they pick a lot of lint and dust..-Sometimes sound disconnect, like as in a driver problem, had to unplug, plug again, several times, even after rebooting. But only happened once. never happened again.

I've had a lot of headsets to use with gaming, but these are by far the best I've ever used.First, the stereo sound quality coming out of the ears is absolutely amazing. It's a rich, full sound that has a good base to it as well. I didn't think a headset designed for gaming could sound so good. It also works really well with movies and music.Secondly, the ears are very comfortable. You can literally wear them for hours without discomfort.I also really appreciate the controls on the headset itself. You can adjust the volume up/down, and mute the mic, and there's another button I'm not sure what it does yet.Also, and this is a little thing, but the software was a breeze to install and gives you easy action to your sound profiles and settings. So when I want to game I double click and set my profile, or I go back to my desktop speaker settings for movies or music.

I wear these headphones quite a bit. I'm an avid video gamer on PC. (BF3 and MOHW) The sound quality is fantastic. And they never become uncomfortable on my ears or head. I tried several different brands and models of headphones trying to find some that wouldn't kill my ears after a few minutes. I went through a lot of headphones before I came across these. I read many, many reviews before I decide to try this model. They aren't cheap so I knew I had to make sure before I bought them.As soon as I put them on, I knew I had made the right choice. The fit is awesome...not too tight and not too loose. The sounds in game are perfect. I can hear everything perfectly. And my hearing isn't what it used to be. The only flaw is that the controls aren't very well labeled so I had to go online to find a product brochure to figure them out. That's the only problem, though.I wear these headphones for hours at a time and I've never found them uncomfortable. I play games, watch movies and listen to music with them. The fit and sound quality are unparalleled. I would recommend them to everyone.

My goodness. This thing is the bane of my existence now...I don't hear the door, I don't hear my roommate, it's great. The sound quality is pretty wonderful, especially considering the price. It looks great, though these pictures are fairly misleading (Google it, you'll see, it's not graphite it's really black and red). From what I've seen the last few months I've owned it, it's the bees knees.Be SURE to install the drivers and follow the initial set up instructions. Also be sure to turn on the Dolby surround sound, it makes a whole world of difference. I always run it in the 7.2 mode, which is just a teeny bit better than the 5.1, which is MILES better than standard mode.TL;DR: I love this headset. I prefer it to my fairly nice speakers, it's pretty comfortable (I game for about 4 hours a day, 6-8 on weekends) and I have never wanted my money back. It doesn't leak sound to my mic at all, and the mic sounds pretty great. Sometimes I wish the cord were about a foot longer, but it's plenty long as is, my setup just likes a bit more cable.

I normally use the Logitech G35 surround sound headset and have to say I feel like it's a tossup between the two.The speaker hardware between the two is basically identical. The Plantronics mic is a little more sensitive (not necessarily a good thing). The construction of the Plantronics appears to be a good deal more durable -- my Logitech G35s broke twice in 2 years due to a thin plastic connection that holds the earphones against your head (basically the same part that on these headphones is metal).The one thing that kind of bothers me with the Plantronics is that I would swear the positional sounds are better with Dobly surround sound turned OFF. When I turn on the Dolby, the sound quality becomes far richer, but I feel like I lose the positional audio -- I can't tell if that charging horse is coming from back-left or front-left.But it does work. Maybe I just have to get used to the directional audio on these compared to the G35, which I thought was dead on. Both headsets have proved comfortable for long term gaming (and my ears are big enough that not all headsets have been comfortable...I had a Turtle Beech 5.1 surround sound headset some years ago that were very hard on the ears).So I rate these as 4 stars -- same rating I gave to the G35. Really, if I could get the software and the sound production of the G35 combined with the rugged construction of the GameCon 780, I think I'd have the perfect 5-star headset. When it comes down to a choice between the two, I think the G35 is superior...BUT you'll pay more for them and, as I stated, they are not well made and you'll find plenty of complaints about the breaking if you look at the reviews for it.Bottom line: this is a very good headset and definitely a contender. Tossup as to whether these are better than the Logitech G35s, all things considered.(One footnote: if you have another set of USB headphones, you might need to unplug them. Although Windows recognizes both headsets when I have them both plugged in, I wasn't getting any sound out of these until I unplugged my G35s, even after going into Windows settings and telling Windows to use these. Your mileage may vary.)

I bought this because my headphone jack is faulty on my laptop, so I'm only using the product solely for listening to multimedia.The headphones are comfortable to be worn hours at a time and the cord doesn't tangle at all.In the first couple of weeks I had the product, I noticed that there was a random audio pop occurring in the right ear cup but I haven't noticed this happening lately, either it's there and I'm just oblivious to it or the problem resolved itself somehow. The cups and the headband(?) are very prone to lint/fur so invest in a lint roller.Since I'm only using the headphones for just viewing videos and listening to music, I don't have any use for the microphone which is okay because luckily the microphone stays upright in place without the little strip of tape used to hold it close to the headphones. Even if I put it down, the microphone doesn't invade my facespace and I sometimes forget that it's there.I can't comment how well this product would work for gaming but I'm sure that it performs well for the price.

I have been PC gaming since the comadore 64 and I never looked into upgrading the sound quality of my games... until now. OMG Wow was exactly what I thought when I put these on and setup the sound test... I immediately took them off as it sounded like the pings originated in the room perhaps from my main pc speakers... I asked the wifey did u hear that she looked at me like i was crazy (normal). Sure enough I determined it was because this headset is insane... I went back and listened to some of my old music and it was clear and crisper than Iv'e ever heard before... I logged into my current addiction "DayZ" and omgosh the sound is sooo different from what i was use to that I litteraly felt like I was playing a different game... I can only imagine that all my other games will now WOW ME in the same way... I am anticipating going back to play those games with this headset. I know nothing of higher end headsets but if you have never tried any REAL headsets like these I promise as the other reviews indicate "Get these and you won't be sorry".

I'm on a budget and i a history of accidentally destroying headsets ( usually by rolling over the cord and straining the USB connector to the point of breaking/ripping the wires out ) so i was not prepared to pay over 100 dollars for a good headset. I saw this one when it was on sale and figured why not.I'm new to digital surround through headphones so i wasn't sure what to expect. The sound quality of this headset is amazing when compared to my previous set up ( standard stereo headset ). The max volume is great, the surround sounds great while gaming. For music this headset really sets my playlist on fire! I can now hear music the way it's meant to be heard, hearing every single note of every single instrument, It's pretty awesome actually. It's built strong, it's comfortable , it's affordable and it pushes out quality sound. I really can't complain at all.

A am a bit of an audiophile and thus can be pretty picky about my sound quality. These sound great. They produce a nice deep and rich sound without going overboard on the bass. Many headphones over do the bass and produce a flat and almost murky sound. These have a decent balance.The build quality is very nice too. Very sturdy. I also like the feature on the volume button. Every time you press it there is a high pitched beep which gets louder as the volume goes up, or a low pitched beep which gets softer as the volume goes down. Very clever. (Note the beeps are only while pressing the volume button up/down. You can't hear them during normal use.)Overall bang for the buck these are sweet. I like them WAY more than the turtle beach headphones I had before and these were half the cost.

As many reviewers have noted, this is a good functional headset/mic combination for relatively short term use such as an hour editing session or a teleconference in a space where the stereo earphones. From my experience:+ USB adapter works well with netbook/nettops that have USB port, but no mic input port (see caveat below)+ very good at sealing out noise in room, good in-ear sound+ Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 all recognized the USB adapter right away+ good quality mic audio for dubbing with high/low/mute controls+ the mic folds up and over the left earpiece+ mute and volume control reasonably placed and good range- this is not the most comfortable behind-the-ear design, takes a bit of settling in to get comfortable over glasses- USB adapter has audio lag similar to what some Bluetooth adapters experience, noticable sometimes on Skype (fine without USB)- doesn't really fold into a travel friendly sizeI picked this up at local computer store for $15 as the last remaining item on hand. For that price, excellent value! It's holding up well after a few weeks use of at most an hour a day. Given the other experiences of fragile components, I'm leaving this one home and reserving a Microsoft folding headset for on the road use.

I have been using headsets for years now. I go threw about one set every five to six months. They all go bad because of the mic, the headphones still work but the mics always give out. My wife went out and got me the Gamecom 780's. They will not work on my vista systems but work on my Windows XP and Windows 7. The sound is good on both those systems and they perform great. They are comfortable and provide an above average gaming experience. The only one Con is the lack of support on the website to trouble shoot not being able to install the headset. If you are having trouble on the initial setup on Windows Vista there is no information or guidance on how to get them working. I will be returning these back to Best Buy and get a set of Turtle Beach headsets that are more plug and play friendly. Sometimes when you buy a product you really don't want to spend hours surfing the net and not getting any results. Also if you are part of the working class you may not have the schedule to contact the manufactures during their support hours.Plantronics GameCom 780 Surround Sound Stereo PC Gaming Headset
