I bought this access point to provide wireless coverage to a 2 story colonial house. Even with a Netgear ANT24D18 Ant 18DBI Patch Panel attached, it provided less coverage than what I was using before, a Netgear WPN802 v1. What I am using now is this WG302 w/ ANT24D18 patch panel as the access point, and the WPN802 as a repeater. This is working well.

I would strongly advise against buying this thing. I've had it for about 1 week and I've been experiencing what some others have said - the wireless will die and I can't reconnect to it until I restart the router. This is very annoying and unacceptable. What I notice is the LAN still works, its just he wireless that dies horribly. It got to a point where I had to do it once a day. I had a cheap cheap D-Link that I restarted maybe once every 7 months, and even then I wasn't sure it needed it. What I am sure of is that Netgear has lost their shine and now they are making consumer grade junk. I've also had a newer Linksys that would do this to me. I am going back to cheap, but reliable D-Links.

I live in an old stone house with stone interior walls with block wireless signal from the router. Plus the solid stone walls mean no way to fish new cable so I gave this a try. Connects quickly and gives strong signal. I like that I can move the receiver unit around the house and get wireless access is less than 10 seconds of plugging it in. I also like to plug the receiver in on the outside deck on sunny days and have wireless all accross the back yard. (I experiemented and got useful signal strength over 400 feet away.) Also, I have taken it to a detached garage, plugged it in and have wireless while working on projects. (So handy, that I have just bought an additional receiver to save the "hassle" of moving it from place to place.)USAGE CAVEAT: Be careful what devices share the circuit with the units. They seem especially senstive to surge suppressors and to power chargers. For example, I suddenly had great difficulty with wireless in the bedroom where it had worked flawlessly for months. When I checked the unit, my wife had plugged in her cell phone charger into the same outlet next to the netgear. When I unplugged her charger, all access problems immediately disappeared. If a charger or other device "hums" when plugged in, don't place right next to the unit.Bottom line: works well when wired network is impractical to install

From out-of-the-box to fully functional took less than 10 minutes. Very impressed with the ease of set up. My existing wireless enabled devices latched on almost immediately (even my Chumby!) + with my new Wireless-N card performance (throughput and signal strength) was better than I've ever seen before. Count me as one very happy user.

I purchased a Netgear WNR3500 recently to replace my Linksys WRT54GS especially to take advantage the extended wireless coverage, 1G wired networking and N Wireless characteristics. It is a handsome device with lots of flashing blue lights and promising appearance. But it is not nearly as stable as my old Linksys. The 3500 repeatedly and sporadically drops my wireless connections, sometimes requires new connection profiles from my laptops and occasionally prevents internet access via wireless connection while maintaining networking connections and wired internet connections.A newer firmware update seems to have stabilized the device a bit so maybe many of these wireless connection problems are behind me (fingers crossed). And I hope other firmware updates will make it the device Netgear claims it to be.I'd go back to the old Linksys in a heartbeat if the 3500 didn't have N wireless. That is a real selling factor and I expect N will become the standard soon. Other N wireless routers may be better than the WNR3500.

Pros:1. Price is good.2. The security is "business grade." The hardware firewall was NAT and SPI, and there was a host of miscellaneous security features.Cons:1. The range extension is very limited. Despite the claims, Netgear's own technicians said less than 90 feet in an open area without walls. On this matter, I can verify. My computer was 60 feet away, but the signal had to go through two walls and a floor. The signal was so weak that the internet was not usable.

Got this and set it up right away. Set up was very easy and as someone who normally waits until hubby comes home to do things this was a breeze for me. We're a gaming household with all next-gen systems. So this truly came in handy. Once set up I notice that there was a remarkable difference when connecting via my laptop. I also tried going online via the Playstion 3 and the connection speed was so much faster than when I had my Linksys connected. I must say that I am using Cable Internet services. As stated though there was no lag when hosting matches via Xbox Live and that was exactly what we were looking for. This is definitely what you need when gaming. It does exactly what it says it will do. I don't normally recommend products but this one gets a definite thumbs up from me.

Stupid me ... I read the bad reviews and violated my own rules and went ahead and bought this product at Staples. I have a Netgear FVG318 wireless router. The router sees the WGX102, but their own utility that comes with it does not see it, AND it says that the password that is printed on the WGX102 is not valid. *Then* trying to troubleshoot, I plugged the extender into an outlet one (1) outlet away from the WGX102 bridge (6ft away, on the same cricuit!) and it shows 1 bar of signal strength!!!! I suppose they will tell me that I have a "noisy line" or some crap like that(?). How about this ... their product is a piece of crap like the all the reviews here said, the same reviews THAT I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO in the first place!!!I am a 25 year professional/veteran in the IT field. I am not a novice at this stuff in any sense of the word. This thing has SERIOUS quality issues ... it doesn't even work with their own products. What a piece of crap ... listen to the reviews posted here and stay away and save yourself a lot of wasted time, frustration, and iritation.NETGEAR, you need to invest more in your Quality Control department!!! Seriously.

I wanted to upgrade my Netgear WGT624v2 (which i use as an access point --see the Netgear instructions on the internet for this configuration) and the Netgeat game bridge (can't remember the model) that Netgear sold for awhile. This HD-Gaming set seemed like the perfect soluction. Set up was quick in both the auto mode and when I specifically designated AP/Bridge modes which I heard would give me greater range. I also tried every conceivable orientation of the units to get better range & transmission rate. Basically if you try to get a signal from the second floor to the first floor of a standard built house -- i.e., no tile, water tanks, ect. in between -- you can only get about 30 feet to get a decent high bandwidth signal. Move the bridge out another 20 more and the units won't even connect. Clearly this won't work for most users. Either I just got defectinve units (yes i did update the firmware) or the other reviewers that talk about the great range must work for Netgear.

Had to replace a Netgear WNR854T that had crapped out after only 1 year (just google it and you'll find hundreds of posts describing that model's failure). However I've had great experience with other Netgear equipment (still using one of their switches that must be 8 yrs old) so instead of blaming the vendor I blamed the model and replaced the WNR854T with their latest greatest WNR3500 on 3/3/08. It died today 3/27/08. This model has only been available for a few weeks so there aren't a lot of other reviews posted yet (I'm the 5th). Looks like 'Atticus Finch' and I should be contacting a lawyer about a possible class action lawsuit.I don't disagree with the other positive reviews - it had great speed & range and was straightforward to configure but you can't sell products that are so poorly designed that they consistently fail after such a short period. Netgear will not be in business soon if they don't take action to address this; their once stellar reputation is going up in smoke.Be warned.P.S. This should get zero stars but Amazon insists on at least one.

I read all of the reviews before I bought this and figured that surely Netgear would fix all the problems that were mentioned. I was incredibly wrong. The now two year old problem of constantly dropping WAN connection is still prevalent. I had an FWG114PV2 and I upgraded it to the latest firmware and had no problems at all for about 2 hours. Then I had to reboot the router every 5 minutes for an hour. Then it went up a bit more to 15-20 minutes each hour and then back to around 5. The longest it ever held connection was a full 18 hours which I thought was sheer magic. During the longest period of connectivity was my heaviest use as well. Both my girlfriend and I work from home and we simply pounded the router with data due to the nature of our jobs. I remember only have Pidgin. PuTTY, and Firefox with 3 tabs open during nearly 6 hours of random WAN drops. I wasn't doing anything special if I was doing anything at all. Most traffic was simple IMing and SSH traffic and nothing more. After that debacle, I downgraded to firmware 1.2_04 (second newest, nearly a year old at this point) and it was no better. I did the same testing as before: Pidgin, PuTTY, Firefox. The connection drops were less frequent but still happened multiple times an hour. At that point, I was completely fed up and promptly filled out an Amazon return. In total, I had this piece of junk for 1 week including the UPS pick-up to my apartment. It was only in use for 2 days and I didn't even get to test out the print server functionality but I too figured that it wouldn't work worth what this thing costs. As a replacement, I dusted off my old WRT54GL that FON sent me nearly three years ago and flashed it with dd-wrt. Since then, the router has been rebooted two times by me and only had a dropped WAN connection once...when my DHCP lease renewed itself.I gave this piece of junk 2 stars simply because the case is made of metal and not cheap plastic like the rest of consumer-level networking products.

I've bought and used well over a dozen 802.11 devices over the years. This one is the worst. I knew it was a bad sign when the driver that came with the card (bought from Staples) had a description metakey of "MFC Test" after I installed the driver. My home has a D-Link wireless router. I have 2 Thinkpad laptops, a Roku wireless Netflix Player, and one other PC with a generic wireless adapter. They all work fine and have pretty reliable connections. This Netgear adapter always drops the connection and I have to manually disconnect and reconnect to restore connectivity. I've even tried the adapter with all my other devices/computers turned off (except for the router). Same problem. I'm at the latest driver. Doesn't matter.Stay away. I'll never buy NetGear again.

A very tech-savvy friend sent me one of these thinking it would connect easily to my Netgear Wireless-N router. The instructions seemed simple enough (and I'm pretty tech-savvy myself), but it didn't work. I called Netgear support and was told that these only work in pairs, so I purchased another one. Still didn't work in spite of well over an hour of "support" from Netgear. They agreed to send me a replacement (for one of them), which they did. Still didn't work. (I'm leaving out a lot of the annoyances and frustration, but I'm sure you can imagine.) I went to Fry's and purchased a kit (which contains a pair of them) and still couldn't get it to work. By this time, I've given up but it's too late to return the original purchase (>14 days). Netgear is refusing to help! If you can get their products to work yourself, fine. If not, don't bother calling Netgear. Their tech support is horrible!!

I couldn't use the software provided with it, I had to use Windows to configure it, but once I figured that out I haven't had a problem with it and it definitely is faster. I would recommend this product to someone looking for a cheap adapter. Oh, and incidentally, I got the refurbished model so I had to go online and download the software as it didn't come with the adapter but it was a simple task.

Even with this access point in the same room, I couldn't get an iPod Touch to reliably use Wi-Fi connectivity if the surveillance cameras were active. The final solution was to get cameras that operate on 5.8 Mhz. You can find those by searching on Amazon. This access point however did work fine, and was easy to set up.

I just spent hours of frustration trying to get this thing to work reliably. Never got it working correctly. Netgear won't just let you install the drivers and be done with it. No, they force you to install their bloated and buggy configuration software which doesn't play well with Windows XP(apparently). So, after much cursing and hair-pulling, I took it back and exchanged it for a comparable Linksys adapter. Now all is right again in my universe. If you are looking for a USB wireless adapter, do yourself a favor and go back to the search page and type in L-i-n-k-s-y-s.

So I wanted a really strong wireless bridge solution.Found this kit while searching and it seemed to be what I needed. As soon as it showed up I had the thing set up in about an hour. I hooked one bridge up (via Ethernet) to my wireless router and the other I hooked up to my XBOX (via Ethernet), logged into each one messed around with a few config settings and fired up I Am Legend via Unbox. Not one interruption the movie played flawlessly! I'm so happy with this as it solved the problem I was having perfectly. It's also given me the added bonus of boosting my signal strength (only for wireless-n compatible devices) throughout my house.

This router worked fantastic with my comcast cable internet for about a week, then my internet connection was going down every 5 minutes. After a call to support (who are pretty much essentially not helpful), and a call to comcast, I ended up isolating the issue. I had to manually enter the DNS Servers for comcast, because the router was not connecting to the proper DNS server. If you are comfortable troubleshooting an issue like this, by all means, get this router. It has a good signal, and I have been able to wirelessly game online with my PS3 while downloading and running stressful sites on a separate box over the wireless. The hardwire gigabit switch is also very useful.

I've used the range extender with the XE102 unit for over two years now and they have always worked great for normal internet browsing. However, it is VERY SLOW (around 1 mbps) transferring files between computers, and the whole thing just crashes if I try to do something like streaming media at even a moderate bitrate. The crash is easy to fix--unplug the wireless unit, then plug it back in a few seconds later. But it is clearly a pain if the wireless unit is in another room (or in my case, on another floor). But for normal internet use, the wireless unit has always worked well -- no probs at all.

I bought this card solely because of the 108Mbps MIMO ability, to go along with my Netgear WPN824 router which lists this as the compatible card on the back of its box.NO WHERE, not on the box, not on the spec sheet, not in the online manual, etc does Netgear ever tell you what they told me on the phone: THIS CARD WILL NOT WORK IN 108MBPS MODE WITH WINDOWS 2000. In fact, they actually list this mode as working with XP and Win2k, but not Vista.Well, this is bad news for me since I paid about 4 times as much for this card as I could have for a 54G PCI card, because foolishly I thought Netgear products in the same line (Rangemax) would work with each other and with the operating system they are advertised to work with. Guess I'll have to write Netgear a letter next, but I won't be buying any of their products again unless I have money to waste and feel like some experimenting and disappointment.

I installed this on 3/8/2008.First off, I did have disconnects but found through Google that not using Auto mode helped, and once the Access Point was set to AP and the bridge to, ummm, Bridge, the disconnects became far far fewer.Using the Configuration utility to connect to each box checks for new firmware unless you disable it, and there was a 2/28 firmware update. Most of my experience has been with that so I'm not sure how much was fixed. However, the bridge side did crash when logging into it after the update, but just once so far. And while I did pull off updating the firmware in the bridge without a wired connection, Netgear says wire it up.Speed is wonderful compared to 802.11G. Standard definition (SD) video streams to my Xbox 360 far FAR better than before. I'm going to be looking for HD content and test that soon.Once the connection reliability issues go away, this will be a really great purchase. Right now, it's just very good. Just don't use Auto...

I was pleased to move to WPA2, and wanted to eventually try out some Wireless N gear. All of my current NICs run at 54Mb/s.The setup wasn't a big deal (I use Linux and configured everything via the web interface). However, the problem with this unit became apparent very quickly. All too often, the connection with the Netgear will break, and a new association will have to be made. This takes several seconds, and usually happens under load.I ended up using the Linksys as a wireless bridge (it never drops off), and using this Netgear as a standalone firewall. Not what I had in mind.

Alas, this product doesn't work with Macintoshes - a Mac running OS X won't even be aware that it's connected. And for a system that, 99% of the time, sees what's connected to it as soon as it's connected and knows immediately what it is and what to do with it (even if the box makes no claims toward Mac compatibility), that's pretty bad. I figured there had to be some workaround that would just get the thing showing up on my system, and from there my technical know-how would likely help me get it working...but no. I tried everything my 20 years of Mac use have taught me, to no avail, and finally contacted Netgear's support, who told me that the thing just don't work with Macs. Ugh. So I guess it's time to give the PCMCIA card a try. I hope *that'll* work.I must say though that even if the card doesn't work I won't regret buying my RangeMAX router. Even just by itself that router gives me a better, stronger wireless signal with better coverage than two Airport base stations working in concert ever did.

I bought this to get gigabit through the house and wirelss n coverage; and to replace my old Super G router (108 mbps). I paired this with a 5ghz wireless bridge to expand my network (Netgear WNHDEB111- Also Awesome!) and a netgear GS116 ProSafe 16-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch. I now have a gigabit wired network and wireless N and set up couldnt have been easier. Albeit a bit akward using the provided CD. But Setup of wireless security was a snap using WPA2 and have had no downage at all from my new network. Definitely glad I bought this router. I only wish It was in the $70 range but given all its abilities $129 isnt too much... 4 out of 5 because of the price.

Ужасно

You've likely seen warnings from Vista owners already. Windows XP users should also tread carefully.I was optimistic that this wireless adapter would work my well-patched and reliable Windows XP Pro desktop, and so I bought it to connect with my new Verizon FiOS router. Regrettably, I didn't read the reviews beforehand.Following the initial installation, my computer would freeze every time I inserted the adapter, requiring a reboot. After updating the software with NETGEAR's online update, the adapter still would not work. Each attempt to launch the NETGEAR software failed: there were no error messages, it simply refused to launch. And so I was never able to launch this product to the point where I could even attempt an Internet connection. These issues were not addressed on NETGEAR's support knowledge base. Following this string of failures, I have no intention of further troubleshooting and potentially jeopardizing my Windows XP installation with this unstable product.Look elsewhere: there are other alternatives with solid ratings here on Amazon.

Великолепно

I upgraded from a pre-N Linksys model because my internal N WIFI product kept dropping the signal. The NetGear RangeMax Premium Wireless-N Gigabit Router has been flawless. It has never dropped my connection. The speed is comparable to a wired connection or better. I got what I wanted.

Do not buy this lousy product. I really recommend you go with something else if your thinking wireless. Take a look at Crapgear's web sight and search the support forum for this model number and you will see that there is an issue with this adapter and XP. This company really doesn't seem to care either. Last update was in 2006 sooooo they must think their drivers are working just fine and dandy!!! This sooooooo is far from the truth. I cannot count the number of times that I uninstalled this F'in card and the drivers to try to get it to work!!! Don't pay attention to J. Temple's review that he had no problems as I can tell you that he is sorry that he bought this card now!!!!!! To J. Temple, from everybody that neg'd this card, instructions WERE followed NUMORIOUS of times!!!!!! Still with the same end result, a card that works whenever it wants to and software that likes to crash when ever it wants to or to a card that doesn't want to work at all!!!! To people who don't believe me and go ahead and buy one, don't blame me, as I warned you. Trust me from my experience with this card..... I will never buy NETGEAR AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
